Fantastic, absolutely fantastic. This restaurant is tucked into a little alley, almost invisible to a passerby. It doesn’t ask for attention and it’s subtle nature almost gives it an air of exclusivity, which is a nice change. Walking in, the environment is beautiful. Waiters and staff are dressed up, classical music is playing quietly and everything is very calm. We were seated immediately and had our drinks within minutes of sitting down. A word of warning, this restaurant is VERY expensive (we’re talking like $50) meals. However (Insider’s Tip Alert) if you sit at the bar from 11:30-3:00 you can peruse the lunch menu and order your pick of a few, delicious menu items for either $15 or $28....fat under what you would pay during the dinner hour. I ordered two entrees ($15 total), the Soup de Jour and an Irish Bacon, Egg and Cheese sandwich. The soup was wonderful. It was whipped and had a creamy texture which was very easy to eat. The sandwich was good too. A little too much butter for my taste, but at the same time it’s hard to complain. The entire meal was complimented by unlimited, fresh-cooked bread which I was foolish enough to consume before my entree arrived, leaving me just about stuffed. Overall, I loved this place. Unless I was drowning in riches, I probably wouldn’t go here for dinner, but the lunch out meal was reasonable and delicious; I highly recommend it.
The 7 course tasting menu was delicious and fun. We enjoyed the wine pairings poured by Nikki, the wine director.
The best deal is the quick lunch where you get any two items from the lunch menu very tasty. Typically there is a soup and sandwich offering or a salad. You can also order a drink as one of your two items or for that matter order two desserts. Eve provides great bread crunchy outside with a tender inside.
Multiple smaller dining rooms. Each is very comfortable, intimate, and quieter than in most restaurants nowadays. Service was attentive, kind, but not overbearing. A nice experience.
Been coming here for years on special occasions. The tasting menu with wine pairing is outstanding. Outside the tasting menu less good but still a cut above the rest.
Wonderful spot for dinner. Excellent and attentive service. Good wine selection with sommelier to assist. Tasty craft cocktails. Perfect place for a romantic evening.
“Excellent” Me and my boyfriend, we chose this restaurant for our first romantic dinner in rome. I had salmon tartare and my boyfriend had the octopus as starter. For maincourse we both had the pasta with lobster. Everything was delicious and the atmosphere was perfect. We finished with the fruit tiramisù and the chocolate fondant. The service was very good, our...
It is with a heavy heart that I bid Restaurant Eve adieu. I have been a fan for quite a few years, frequently coming in for the garden lunch while the kiddos are in school. Always delicious and innovative, Eve never disappointed. Tonight we came in as a group of six for a last hurrah. Phenomenal as always. Thank you guys for the memories, we will surely visit Chef Cathal Armstrong's other endeavors in the area. ❤
Excellent bartenders with awesome cocktails. Just have them make up something for you. They are really great. The food is invariably good as well.
Wowzers, what a culinary experience. I took my fiancé here for her birthday and we did the Chef's tasting menu with wine pairings. While it's not the most frugal meal you'll ever eat in your life, it is definitely an experience I am glad I had and definitely hope to repeat.
This place has always been amazing and the food is delicious. You always have options as to what you want to get if you don't want the tasting menu which is great. When you are celebrating something, they always send a little something like a piece of chocolate saying "Happy Birthday", makes it very personal.
For our two-year anniversary, my boyfriend and I celebrated at Restaurant Eve. It was the perfect meal to commemorate our two years together and we were both very pleased and satisfied with the quality and service Restaurant Eve provides. We expected as much after years of being loyal patrons of the Restaurant Eve Group and frequent visitors to the other Restaurant Eve Group restaurants and bars. Restaurant Eve was the crowning crème de la crème. We both decided to get the Chef's Surprise Menu, which is 7 courses for guests in a more "adventurous mood." I started off with the Eammon's cocktail, a twist on the Irish Rickey made with yuzu juice, Irish red lemonade, and Powers Irish whiskey. We were served an amuse-bouche and a palate cleanser of carrot and fennel sorbet with saffron foam before we entered our seven courses. Course 1: Hamachi with wild spring onion panna cotta, bull's blood beets, and garlic chives Course 2: Diver scallop with parsnip purée, caramelized onion and perigord truffle Course 3: Pan roasted rockfish with heirloom carrots, Meyer lemon and yogurt Course 4: Breast of partridge with scarlet turnips and partridge jus Course 5: Pine Ridge Farms' beef with celeriac purée, black trumpets and caramelized onion Course 6: Artisanal cheese Course 7: Meyer Lemon Bavarian, Cornmeal Cake, Toasted Marshmallow, Brown Butter Popcorn and Candied Meyer Lemon. In between course 6 and 7, we got a pre-dessert of crème brûlée and candied pear. And after our dessert course, we were presented with a small tier of other desserts such as chocolate truffles, macarons, petit fours, etc. I really liked the hamachi, scallop, and rockfish the most. Both the partridge and beef were a little tough for my taste but just as flavorful as my preferred dishes which says a lot about the quality, presentation, and care that went into each course. The dessert was delicious as well. I enjoyed some green tea with the dessert, which our server says they get from Teaism just down the street as they prefer to support local businesses. Service was top-notch, as good as it gets. They paid close attention to every movement, setting our plates on our right side, clearing the plates when we were finished, switching out old cutlery for new ones immediately after clearing the plates, making sure to tell us each course as soon as it's set down, and even engaging in light conversations with us. Very friendly, accommodating, and professional. At the end of the meal, we were given a small bag of Restaurant Eve's ground coffee and scone mixes as their way of saying "Happy Anniversary." The server also rolled the menu for us into a scroll and affixed a ribbon to secure it. What a fantastic way to celebrate our anniversary. We can't thank Restaurant Eve enough for their fantastic food and terrific service.
Wonderful experience. Tucked away down an alley is the main entrance to an elegant restaurant. Food was fantastic, atmosphere was refined, and the service was impeccable. Would definitely recommend for any special occasion.
Very accommodating kitchen. I LOVE sweetbreads and they weren't a course on the chef's tasting menu. Server asked the kitchen if I could sub them and they allowed it. Oh, and everything from start to finish was delish!
The sense of excellence is Restaurant Eve, located in lovely Alexander, VA. I have been there three times and treasure every visit. The sweet bread is heaven; the wine pairing perfect, the decor spendid. For a few hours feel like a king or President; President Obama has taken Michelle here for good reason. The tasting menu takes you on a journey from local produce that can only be described as perfection. Finish off with the cheese plate.
The rustic elegance of Restaurant Eve accompanied with friendly, attentive service, and, most importantly, masterfully prepared food provide a perfectly ideal, ever memorable dining experience that will surely eclipse your previous favorites. The food is beyond delicious and the staff treat you like treasured royalty. If you want to treat yourself, go to Restaurant Eve.
One of the best restaurants in the area, hands down. If this restaurant was eligible to receive a michelin star, I have no doubts that it would. Great atmosphere, friendly staff, and a talented chef. EDIT: the chef is pursuing some other ventures, and is sadly closing down this place. Look for Chef Cathal Armstrong's restaurants, they recently posted that a new location might be built into Restaurant Eve 2.
Highly reputable fine dining establishment with well-executed dishes. If you've got an appetite and the budget, elect the chefs tasting menu which highlights the restaurant's best dishes.
A true 5 Star dinning experience! So glad we chose to celebrate here. Staff were amazing, atmosphere comfortable and elegant, every course was pure perfection. We will be back soon!
From the warm welcome by the front of the house and the stellar dining experience by the back of the house, Restaurant Eve truly delivered. Cacio e Pepe and the Sweetbreads were my favorite. Definitely recommend.
Recommend leaving yourself in the hands of the chef via prix fixe or family style dinner options. You'll get stuff you might not imagine ordering on your own, and it will be more memorable and delicious
It is hard to believe that anyone could have anything but a positive experience at Restaurant Eve. The Chef's Tasting Menu was a symphony of diverse and wonderful flavors and the wine pairings were excellent and sometimes unexpected. The wait staff was attentive without being intrusive and we enjoyed discussing the food and wines with them. The rich flavors and atmosphere made for a transcendent experience. If I lived in the area, I would be planning another visit since the menu changes daily. The ingredients are fresh, organic and locally sourced. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
I'm not really sure why people are saying this is not worth the price because this is one of the best meals I've had. We did the tasting menu (5 courses is going to be more than enough) and ordered a bottle of wine. They started us with three primies before the five course menu. Everything was absolutely delicious. This is fine dining so it is going to be more that the normal place, but I think this is worth every single dollar!
I went there last night with a group and was floored by the delicious dishes and supremely wonderful service. My boyfriend and I are still talking about how impressive the dinner was. Definitely the fanciest and most elegant dining service I've had the pleasure to enjoy. We had the tasting menu and absolutely loved everything we were served. It was quite the experience!
The service was amazing! We had a really sweet lady suggesting us lovely dishes and cracking jokes. Warm fresh bread was served through out dinner with delicious butter and while our dish options were limited we enjoyed our comfortable seats in a cozy ambiance.
I came to Restaurant Eve for my birthday, and loved every part of the experience. The ambiance was quiet and sophisticated, and the entrees were amazing. I had a prawn dish for dinner, and I can still distinctly remember the taste. The flavors were so unique and vibrant; unlike any prawn dish i've ever had. As a bonus, they sent us home with a pre-mixed bag of flour to make breakfast scones which were so simple yet so delicious as well. I would definitely recommend Restaurant Eve for a romantic date night or a low key dinner with friends.
My wife and I live within walking distance and are always delighted to dine here for lunch and dinner as a nearby, special treat. We have to contend with a long list of food allergies. We are usually able to advise them of specific foods we need to avoid and the chefs are always able to pull something absolutely scrumptious together. For lunch we usually dine at the bar. A glass of wine from their fantastic collection complements the two or three course lunch offerings they have available.
Excellent! Took my business partner here to impress him hey mission accomplished. everything was so fresh. i loved my salad!! the wine cellar was unexpectedly diverse in its selections. The most important thing was for me that I saw a big smile on my business partner face.
Very tasty and well built dishes. Staff were welcoming and friendly. Only con is the dated decor. Otherwise, i would have given it 5 stars.
Food and service were very fine. However, compared to a couple of years ago, they had taken some steps to make it easier on the kitchen and less of an amazing experience for you, in that for the tasting menu everyone at the table gets the same thing--no more of the wonderful sharing of the different dishes they used to prepare for the guests that made it above and beyond. No more of the 5-course pre-fix or 7-course tasting menu there for us, it isn't worth the very high price anymore. However, would be worth it to go in for the pre-fix three course, which looked to be excellent at a much more reasonable price!
Their "lickity split" lunch offerings are delightful. Every week day from 11am - 4pm, you can go into the bar and enjoy a very delicious and affordable meal. You choose any two items from the lickity split menu and pay $15 (per person). Call ahead of time to see if seating is available. (They don't take reservations for the bar).
Between 11 and 330 they offer pretty much any two items on the lunch menu for $14.95 in the bar. Otherwise it's pretty pricey for what you get ($15+ for sandwiches) Google maps show they close at 2, but you can dine and drink in the bar til they reopen the dining room for dinner.
We dined in the Tasting Room for my 30th birthday -- something I'd been looking forward to for a year. The food was amazing -- meticulous attention to flavor detail. Their coffee was noticeably fresh like everything else. It seemed like they took their food a little too seriously, though, meaning that we did not feel like we could relax and fully enjoy the experience. People were watching us eat and switching silverware between each dish, which seemed over-the-top. My silverware was clean. Also, the tables were too close together. I felt like my neighbors could hear our conversations, which made us uncomfortably quiet. I've heard that the entire restaurant (not bar) section is now "tasting room" and am not sure if they've improved on that. I hope so. One thing I would add is a door man. I was surprised that the price didn't buy us that. Overall, I enjoyed the local, gourmet, whole food experience. It was worth going once; but I can't justify going again (even for a special occasion) unless they changed those things.
“Great Food!” We arrived for happy hour and sat in the bar area. Some of the tables were still dirty, and we were not waited on for about 15 minutes. When the server did come to the table, he was very apologetic. They must have been short handed at the time. The drinks came very quickly as did the food.
I've had lunch here a few times and have always enjoyed the food and creative presentation. The place can sometimes give off a nouveau air, but I enjoy going there nevertheless. They bake very good bread, and they have a delicious grilled peach dessert that I've gotten every time.
We went to Restaurant Eve for the tasting menu that we had heard so much about and we were quite disappointed. We've dined at Inn at Little Washington and Tosca, L'Auberge Provencal and L'Auberge Sedona so we know our way around chef's tables and fine dining. The initial amuse bouches were very promising and wowed us, but things went downhill from there. We ordered the five course tasting menu and did not do the wine pairings instead choosing a few glasses of wine each. The portions are incredibly small -- so small as to be precious and makes sharing them nearly impossible. They also are served on HUGE plates and bowls, which adds to the visual tinyness of the portions. We were grateful that bread was served so that my husband could fill up a bit between the courses, not something we usually do. If the food had been wonderful, I don't think we would have had an issue with how small the portions were. I have to say that except for the first amuse bouches, the food was mediocre at best and quite odd at its worst. We could have asked for the seven course tasting menu, but we felt that that if those additional two courses were as mediocre as the others, it would have been insult to injury. I don't know if Restaurant Eve was having an off night. but there are many better choices for tasting tables at a better value for your money. On the positive side, it's a beautiful restaurant and the servers were wonderful and made excellent recommendations for the wine pairing. They also gave us a nice little birthday gift of coffee and biscotti mix and a menu with my name on it. Nice touch, but not enough to make up for a very expensive dinner that was very disappointing. Agree with another reviewer that the hostess was unwelcoming and stuffy.
Didn't really enjoy the dinner. It was ok. Nothing spectacular. The Sisig is not the SIsig I know. There's too much lime in it its very tart. The restaurant was also a little dark. Service was so and so. I was expecting more attentive servers.
Beautiful space and friendly staff, my favorite part of the dining experience was the chef's compliments; the deviled quail's egg, the gruyere puff, and the little mousse tartlet were all quite delicious. Remember to check out their sister underground bar, PX!
Not impressed! Mashed potatoes tasted like they were made in the food processor... like baby food.. Not what you would expect... Meat was not greatly prepared. Too many servers... Food was so-so... Very obnoxious wait staff... Very disappointing. Had dinner the night before at Vadalia in DC it was AMAZING!
Went in for dinner at the bar on a first visit. We checked out coats, went to the bar and there seemed to be a lot of little issues throughout the night. Ordering drinks took about 10 minutes (2 bartenders and bar was half full). We asked for a food menu and had to ask the bartender to come over to explain the menu and make suggestions. We had to ask twice for the cheese listing. My expectations for this restaurant may have been too high, because I was definitely let down by my experience. We got wine, cocktail, cheese board and cheese and chip dip. The food runner messed up our food twice being delivered as well. The girl couldn’t find our coats at the end of the night. Hopefully this was just an off night. But was disappointed.
Maybe it was an off day, but the food was not cooked well. The rigatoni was significantly undrcooked and the squid was overcooked on the same dish. However, the broth was wonderful. We were also one of three tables, but the service wasn't very attentive either. Overall, the cost is not at all worth it.
My husband took me to Eve to celebrate our wedding anniversary and I did not like the experience. I did not feel that the experince was amaizing or special and the food is not amaizing and the portions are tiny for the price and the food is not spectacular.I do not mind paying expensive price is the food is excellent. The food is ok but not spectacular. The waiter was very nice and he did everythung to provide a great service. They should call this place Tasting room instead of restaurant. I was planning to have an amaizing evening and I did not and plus is was too hot and dark. VERY VERY UPSET.
Service is awesome here and the dining space itself is very charming. But the food was so salty. Did a tasting menu and absolutely everything was too salty, except from the dessert.
Unfortunately this meal was below par on all levels. There was a distinct and unpleasant smell when we entered the restaurant. After ordering drinks I again had an unpleasant experience with the Peruvian drink which smelled off putting. As a group, we ordered the Asian tasting menu and ended up with first course that was a slap of full pork fat on a tray with minuscule rice and a small dipping container. Not only did it look substandard, it tasted the same. We all abandoned the Asian menu for other fare. I ordered my dish to be prepared well done--it came raw. I sent it back and waited nearly 20 minutes to get it returned and the other guests had finished. One would think the manager would respond while we were in the restaurant or to my call after. No. Alas, let the diner beware. Think carefully before choosing this place.
First off the food was very good and creative, the portions were very much on the small side, but the taste was excellent. We were very prepared to pay a decent price but ended up thinking the cost just wasn't justified for the entire experience. Our waiter was great, but the hostess was far too stuffy, and not welcoming. The one thing that made me not rate this place higher was the lack of any air conditioning in the middle of summer! I just can't see why a place like this would make you sweat while eating your dinner. It wasn't just on the warm side it was very hot. They only had the fans running and the AC seemed to be completely off. When I'm paying this much for a meal I expect to eat in comfort and not have to worry about sweat dripping into my food. Our meals alone could have easily paid for the months electric bill if they had AC running. I cant imagine how hot the servers were in their full suites. Just as an FYI, even the women in my group were complaining about how hot it was in the restaurant, so it's not just me being a guy.
Not worth the price for tasting menu and wine. Service lackluster with meals coming out before wine and vice versa. So many better places in Dc for 600 for two people. Will not come here again for tasting menu and recommed DC residents avoid this place
Terrible atitude of the staff and the chef was just obnoxious and rude. After waiting 30 min for a table that we reserved the day before they tried to seat us in the worst table. I really don't recommend this restaurant. Completly over priced for what they really can offer and the wine are substantially marked up. You go there only if you want to throw money away or show off. Never met a chef with such an attitude. That was our first and only experience with this restaurant. Will never come back or recommend them. Too much ego for the RUDE chef...he had the nerve to tell us if we didn't like the table we shouldn't go to restaurants. Who should please whom? The restaurant should please the customer who is paying a lot to be there or should the customer please the restaurant how they see fit? We travel a lot internationally and as Europeans we never had this kind of attitude in any of the finest restaurants we had dinner. We know how we shoul be treated in fine restaurants.
IT Sales Exec and Attorney had a horrible experience at Restaurant Eve at lunch today. Haughty door staff required that we wait for a place to sit. No problem. But then sat others before us. No explanation. No nothing. Just more attitude. It's never happened there before -- we go there a lot. Super disappointed in a landmark hometown restaurant. On the upside, we found lunch at Grape & Bean in Old Town. Really friendly and food just as good as Eve (sorry, it was really good). Who needs snooty door, um, people?
Took the waiters suggestion on a new menu item they started serving this evening, the seared pork chop. 40+ mins and an almost finished bottle of wine between two and still no entrees. No waiter to explain delay. Food arrives. Pork chop has excessive fat, far more than normal. Tried cutting closer to bone and its dry. I had to send it back. Consult with waiter to get something else that will come up fast so I do not have to wait a long time for another entree. Went with the Ocean City Day Boat Scallops “Clams Casino” . They were good, but honestly I think slightly over cooked. My colleague ordered the Jjampong noodle soup which he found the shrimp to be over cooked and one of the crawfish was black when compared against another. This was also called to the attention of the waiter who brought to the Chef's attention and we were told that was normal. No attempt made to offer one entree at no charge or a complimentary dessert. We spent $160 plus taxes on an excellent bottle of wine and two entrees that I would not order again. I have eaten at this restaurant multiples times over the years, but I will not be returning.
2017 I ate here after hearing from a friend the food was supposed to be amazing but it's very expensive. I knew going in I would pay for good food and have no issue with paying for quality and an experience. When I made reservations I stayed lactose intolerance for myself as a food limitation. At the meal I reminded the server and she was a bit of an eccentric gray haired woman who seemed flustered. The meal is served bit by bit and every time others food was brought out looking good I was brought a bite size or less of berries. No sauce or anything just berries. Not exotic or prepared just washed blueberries and raspberries. About a spoonful. The meal concluded and I'd had about four or five spoonfuls of berries with she crab. The she crab was served seemingly plain and some time after all others food. Others were put off by the constant comings and goings of the server. And stated they were disappointed with the food after. I paid North of $300 for the meal and felt like I'd been having a trick played on me.
