Lovely surprise. Great food.Kitchen closes at 9 so we were lucky to get in right on time. And never felt rushed to eat and go.
We were happy w reviews we saw and not in a hurry (reviews said slow service)... we experienced awesome service!!! Quickly seated, ordered and food came out fast! :) Sushi we had was delicious & all the appetizers and soups were great too. Even refills on drinks were prompt before we could even ask! :) definitely a must if in the area.
Best Sushi place by far! Been going here since it has been opened. Chung is the best owner that this place has had. Jerry is the best sushi chef they have but the others are also great as well. I generally have them make me a special roll that I created but everything on the sushi menu is great! Everything on the menu is fresh so you don't have to worry about getting sick from this place.
Perfect place to eat and relax! A quiet place with an extensive variety of options to choose from. The prices are great as well. The presentation and flavors of each dish is fantastic! I would definitely go again and recommend this restaurant to anyone that loves sushi and/or Chinese cuisine.
My favorite restaurant in San Deigo! The food is remarkably good. Sushi is proportioned well and so fresh. Their Thai dishes are so good! We have never been dissatisfied with the food or service at this establishment! Excellent!
I bought Spicy garlic edamame, paradise roll, cheese cake roll, Singapore rice noodle, Philadelphia fried roll and a red dragon roll. Ordered through the phone and picked up. Everything was excellent ! Great portions and beautifully put together. Thank you ! This is my new favorite sushi place.
Refered by my girlfriend who has bragged about this restaurant for about a year. Super huge menu, fresh sushi made to order right in front of you!!! Great service and as soon as I saw the entire Alpine Fire Department entering I knew that we were going to have a great lunch. We ordered sushi & teriyaki salmon serviced with soup, salad, rice. Really delicious plate. They have got to have every type of sushi known to man. Their prices are amazingly affordable too. Definitely will be going back!!! Service was excellent as well!!!
The best sushi spot in SD. I've had them all but Ahi is the best. I love sushi but hate dealing with all the city people so this place is perfect. The chinese food is just as amazing as the sushi, so no matter what you get, you're in for a delicious meal! I've been getting food from here for over 6 years and will continue as long as it's there.
Always love coming here. John is my favorite sushi 🍣 chef. The food is always good and we enjoy coming here. Try it you won’t be disappointed. I always go off the menu and create my own sushi with no problems
A nice sushi restaurant that offers great Chinese food. Try them for lunch they have a great lunch menu and special from 11-3 everyday and on weekends! Plenty of parking. Great service. My go to when in Alpine.
I'm not a sushi person (at least I didn't think I was). We met our son and daughter and I tried one of their Lady rolls and seaweed salad...delicious! Up until then, I only had California rolls and didn't think much of them, but now I can't wait to go back! Oh, and I ate three or four of the Lady rolls, finished off the salad and ordered a couple salmon rolls...I'm a believer now! 😋
We have been here a few times now and we love it. We have not had a bad experience yet. The place is comfortable, clean, and very friendly fast service. Everything we have tried has been fresh and very satisfying. The wonton soup and sashimi salad are refreshing. The rolls are paired with excellent toppings and the price is affordable. We will be coming back here again and again...
Really impressed with the variety of choices on the menu: sushi, sashimi, egg rolls, wonton and hotnsour soups, and a great selection of cooked dishes. We ordered shrimp in lobster sauce, very tasty and worth a try as the shrimp were cooked perfectly tender and sweet.
So I had the Las Vegas roll and a Kirin brew as the Los Angeles Chargers were smacking the Las Vegas Raiders. It was great! The sushi man was very nice and his name is Tuan. This place has great sushi and more!
Just starting to be more regular. Always treated Ahi Sushi & Grill as a special person, special occasion destination. However I've recently started going solo and for lunch too. They recently changed up the menu, and thankfully my favorites survived. But the the new items are quickly becoming favorites too. Great choice in Alpine for a more reserved atmosphere dining experience. Fully recommend. 👍
Great food. Fresh flavor and delicious taste. I had the cherry blossom, tuna roll, and california.
This place is definitely underrated and should have so much more traffic come through. This is definitely a hidden gem and the food here is incredible I would love to keep this secret to myself but it's hard not to share especially when the food is this good
Pretty good sushi joint in the East San Diego mountain town of Alpine. Sat at the bar and the atmosphere is relaxed with friendly service that was efficient and timely. The food was of good quality with interesting sushi preparations. I liked the Tuna+Tuna roll. Pricing is slightly high for the area but moderate. All in all a pleasant place that I recommend.
Phenomenal food every time I have been here. They also alway present the food well when getting take out as well. I Would recommend to anyone.
Really good place to eat at sushi is really good and soo is the saki

Delicious sushi and sashimi. Got and sour soup was remarkable and the site and set ice impeccable. Great find in Alpine!!
I’ve been coming here for years, I always enjoy ordering the volcano roll with the flame coming off of the plate, the presentation is awesome! Charlie, our server provided top notch customer service!
The menu variety its extensive! Definitely very Good prices- see it on your own. the menu has vegetarian, vegan options, kid friendly. The management is warm and accommodating. We were traveling back to LA and we found the perfect spot for delicious sushi, nurturing ramen, Bento. They have a cozy sushi room and a additional dining room for bigger parties.

I really do like this place a lot! The sushi is always fresh, I love the oyster shooter and they have other dishes if you're in the mood for variety. Kid friendly options too. Paradise roll ( I think) is a good one if you're trying to cut carbs.😉
This is a family favorite dinner spot for pick up, but I have not been able to get through by phone to make an order for the past month, hence 4 stars. I hope they get their phone system sorted out soon!
First time customer. We ordered the dinner combos: Chicken Kung Pao, Yu Shang, & Broccoli Shrimp. Very delicious. Lots of food for great price. The chicken chow mein was tasty my toddler liked it. The Alaska roll & pizza roll were yummy too. Great sized portions! Downside: Shrimp was a little soft/ mushy. Thai tea was good but not that sweet. Kind of watery. Overall, I can see myself eating here again! Thank you Ahi Sushi 🍣
Nice lil spot, with great bento boxes, I recommend the Salemon, and Chefs Choice rolls
I've been coming here for more than a decade and it had been very good. My recommendations and personal favs are the beef low mein, Kung-Pao chicken and orange chicken. The food is always good. Sometimes they forget the rice for takeout but overall, would definitely recommend.
Overall, delicious sushi, nice employees. Quick service and fast at removing dishes from your table once you finish a dish (I don't like a cluttered table). Sushi was nicely prepared and doesn't fall apart when trying to eat it.

The pizza was freshly made and quite tasty. One pizza with my wife and having our individual salad as was sufficient. Pizza and salad was tasty. The freshly baked bread prior to our dinner was exceptionally tasting. We were in Alpine to attend a wedding the next day.
Ok. Hear me out. Sushi in Alpine. Been going here for years. Small place, good sushi, good service. Tuna tacos appetizer is fantastic. My fav roll is the Sexy Roll. Really great garlic edamame. Give it a try! Staff are always great.

The service staff are all incredibly friendly and helpful. They all made us feel welcome and took our orders quickly. Unfortunately the 3 gentlemen behind the sushi bar are consistently incredibly slow on completing orders, often resulting in us leaving after 1 roll despite wanting more since the wait time is absurd. For example our most recent to go order was meant to be ready in 25 minutes and took over an hour despite a minimal amount of in store customers. I would love to give Ahi 5 stars since the food is always perfect and the service is always friendly and pleasant, but unfortunately the lazy timing of the sushi guys reflects poorly on the entire place. Hopefully this improves in the future, but as locals and regulars the issue has been consistent enough that we will not be coming back for a while.
This place used to be awesome but I feel they've made some changes that aren't very good. I am pretty picky when it comes to sushi joints so maybe these things won't bug others. The first thing is the menu. They used to have colored menus with pictures of each item and a description of what the item was. This is common in sushi restaurants so people can see the beautiful roll they will recieve. It basically helps sell a $16 roll. This has since been replaced with a black and white menu made with Excel, where there are large boxes for pictures but the boxes are empty. It doesn't really make sense. I thought they were just unfinished but it's been a few months and they are the same so it appears that they are not going to change them. They still have a description of each menu item but there are a lot of abbreviations, making it difficult to understand. So if you've been to this place before, you probably already know what to order because you've ordered these things before but if you're new, you're probably going to be turned off by the strange, blank, abbreviated menu. Seroiusly, it's a lot of wasted space on this menu for no apparent reason. Also, there used to be sushi menus where you take a pencil and fill out how many of each item you would like. I liked this as I could see my whole order on one sheet of paper and didn't need to try and vocalize my order to one of the sushi chefs across the counter (hoping they can hear me and that they'll remember everything). I was told a few months back that they just ran out of these ordering slips but, again, they still don't have them so I'm not really sure what that's about. Trying to save money by not ordering the slips? Seems silly. Also, they used to have a special, order one large saki, get a small for free. They changed it to order a large saki, get a small for an additional $1.99. Now they have eliminated that special altogether. We asked why and one of the workers said, it was because of increased taxes. I'm not sure if that is true but it seems kind of lame to try and save money that way considering a small saki is like three shots of something they probably buy in bulk. They still have the 50% off items everyday on the menu but I have the suspicion that these items normal prices should be the 50% off originally and it's just a gimmick. Other than these issues, the place is great. The food is always good and the workers are super nice and helpful. The past few times they have forgotten items we ordered and we have needed to remind them, (yesterday, it was my hot and sour soup) but that's just a small inconvenience. I really just wish the manager or owner would stop making silly changes to save minuscule amounts money. The place is already a bit pricey and if I was a new diner, I would probably be turned off by the cheapness in the ordering process. One may get the impression that the place was going under.
I'm giving this place a three because the service is horrendous. The food itself, is really good. It's flavorful and they give good portions. The restaurant is clean and has plenty of seating. The menu has a ton of options and of course, they have sushi which is delicious. Unfortunately, the service is not good at all whatsoever. It's so bad, I'm knocking down two stars. If the service was better, I'd give this place five stars. They take long to bring out your drinks and food. They also get mad when they make a mistake and you politely correct them. Iasked for a coke and water once, and got my water fifteen minutes later. When I asked for the coke, the lady acted like I inconvenienced her and took another ten minutes to bring out my drink. That's just one example of the many horrid experiences I've had here. I recommend this place if you want good food but are prepared to deal with horrible service.
This place was ok, not awful but not great. Fish quality was mediocre, wasn’t disgusting or anything just not great quality tasting nigiri. Some pieces were decent and some were a little fishy tasting. Nigiri was formed kind of oddly and rice separated from fish too easily. My wife liked her roll ok, she didn’t like the flavor of the Miso soup though. And she didn’t care for the sauce on the garlic edamame. Service was ok but just a little awkward, they made a few weird comments and weren’t the most attentive. Probably won’t come back again, prices were decent for the quantity though. All in all I would say, it was fair, not great, not awful.
I had their California and their spicy tuna rolls....they were okay, the shrimp on the roll tasted a little funny..maybe the oil?? . I think if I ever go back I'll try their Chinese food. Prices were okay but only because the items I ordered were 1/2 price...otherwise I'd say it's overpriced.

This was mine and my husband's first time here. We walked in and the host greeted us and said he was cleaning off a table and it would be just a minute. While we were waiting, another couple came in to place a to go order and he helped them. We waited about another 10 minutes, awkwardly standing there because there was no seats by the entrance. We finally got seated in the back area that looked like a converted outside porch area. It was very chilly out but we made do. The server came by to take our order, he said his pen ran out of ink but he will remember our order to relay to the kitchen. We ordered an order of pan fried gyoza, an electric roll, a Philadelphia roll, a tempura shrimp roll and a spicy yellowtail roll. We waited what seemed like 15- 20 minutes for our food to come out. They brought out the electric roll first and did not give us any chopsticks so my husband couldn't eat his roll. We had assumed the gyoza would have come out first, since that was an appetizer. The server brought out our other 3 rolls and then went back to bring us chopsticks, plates and napkins. The two rolls that has eel sauce on them were completely drenched in the eel sauce that you could not taste any other flavor in the rolls. The Philadelphia roll had the tiniest piece of salmon in it and was disappointing. We finished our 4 rolls and still no gyoza came to the table. I let the server know that we never received the gyoza so I'd like to cancel the gyoza. We waited a while and got our bill. He let us know he did take off a discount due to the inconvenience about the gyoza. We were sitting next to this obnoxiously drunk couple, the man burst out into an inappropriate song at one point and the wait staff didn't blink an eye.The prices were pretty reasonable here with their 50% off discount on some of their basic rolls.we went up to the counter at the front to pay our bill and informed them about the obnoxious drunk guy but the server only said " more tips for me", youd think they would cut the guy off on the saki and send them on their way but they didn't. We both felt the sushi was very underwhelming and we most likely would not return here.

We've had sushi here once, which was good/4 stars. Today we tried egg rolls, the broccoli chicken entree with fried rice and Singapore noodles. The egg rolls were raw inside and tasteless, the chicken was slimy and rubbery, the fried rice tasted horrible and barely had any ingredients aside from the rice itself, and the noodles were yellow and tasted like chicken ramen noodle seasoning. This is probably the worst take out we've ever had. 1 star.
The sushi was good but the service is definitely slow. With only 6 customers in the restaurant service could have been much better. Sushi chef made the sushi quickly but in my opinion training for the servers is necessary if they want repeat customers.

I live in alpine and have been coming here since they opened. To say the least they’ve gonef from bad to worse. The service has always been terrible, usually teenagers working there, wearing band shirts and chit chatting while tables need cleaned and customers need tended to. The vacuums, brooms, and other cleaning supplies look bad stored against the wall. The back room is always hot and has old swamp coolers stored in there that are rarely running. The food is less than mediocre, often types very fishy tasting. The reason why I finally decided to write a review is today I took my daughter here after her soccer game because she loves sushi and our tai teas were rotten, one of our fried rolls was so over cooked I could hardly but into it let alone chew on it. Also the server was stoned and talking with his buddy who also seemed high. My daughter ordered a sprite and brought her a pink lemonade. I always tip well here and would love to have a quality sushi restaurant in alpine but it’s just not happening. I blame it on management. The lady who I assume is owner or part owner has always been cheap. She would bring her kids in during her shift and they would be at the sushi bar for hours upon hours on their tablets. This place is not good.
We have been coming there for about 20 years and I’ve never had a bad experience until tonight. The portions of the fish worth so thin that you couldn’t even taste them. My daughter got a rainbow roll and it had a tissue thin coating of fish. I ordered nigiri and the same thing. The only way I got any protein all night was to order some sashimi which also it was a very thin though not tissue thin. I’m sorry to say we probably won’t be going back there again. I know times are hard but you can’t keep business if you’re shaving your product like that. No, it’s no wonder that we were the only ones in there and all the other restaurants around us were full. Sorry to see you go Ahi. We’ve had a lot of great times there but no more
Came in for dinner ordered two beers and then sat for 15 minutes while we watched other peoples orders been placed other people walk through the door and get their orders placed being completely ignored finally had to get up and tell the business owner that we were leaving and we were going to pay for our beers They checked us out and barely gave us any kind of an apology whatsoever. Sorry your food‘s not good enough for us to waste our time on a Friday night. There are much better places in Alpine to eat never going back there again your loss recommend a no, go for anybody. You waste peoples time like that you will lose business and hopefully go completely out of business in Alpine. Maybe think better next time when your customers have to wait.
HELL NO Walked in, and it seemed fine until we were sat. I thought the dark stain on the menu was like someone spilled soy sauce on it or something. I kept getting a waft of rodent urine and thought it was the people next to us. Then, I realized that I was getting the piss smell every time I turned the menu page. I smelled it, I had my partner smell it. It was rodent urine soaked into the bottom of the menu pages. Did not order food, just left and was no longer hungry.
Will NEVER NEVER come here again!!! I remember when they first opened and it was great food. Now it’s the worst food ever. How can a cook screw up chicken teriyaki???? The place looks unkept. Staff on their phones. Sad because only restaurant in Alpine. Alpine needs another sushi restaurant to bring in some competition. They would kill it.
Disgusting food no flavor Only 1 couple on a Saturday night besides us. Workers kept meowing like a cat messing around w eacj other super annoying. Don't waste ur $ here
Long time customer (since they opened in Alpine...) Used to be great food and service until the last few months. Something must have changed. The food has gone way down in quality, the take out containers leak all over everything and the management just says "that's normal...it happens..." Never used to happen. We're better off just going to Panda Express down the hill from now on...
Worst Chinese food I've ever had !! The shrimp egg fu young was was shrimp 🍤 less and burnt so bad that a couple were empty, the crab 🦀 ragoon were just cream cheese and onion. If I could have given a minus 5 stars I would have. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy.
My god. Came in at 7pm…I i been coming here for like 15 years off and on for lunch. I have spent 2k here over the years easily… when Simon was the sushi chef?. Walked in, was mildly busy. A man at the counter was frustrated that nobody was answering the phone. I sat down at the sushi bar and nobody even looked my direction in 12-15 minutes. Actually they never did. .No “we will be right with you from the sushi chef” no “we will be right with you” from the servers. Zero acknowledgement. I finally said to the chef (Mexican guy in black hat) “is anyone working in this area?” And in the most careless and blatantly “go away” attitude said “I dont know man” while shrugging and went back to making sushi. Wow! Never see anything like it. Panda machi it is. Owners, best not leave your business to tik tok people. Most amateur stuff I have seen in the industry. Exact opposite of what Simon does.
Came in to an almost empty restaurant and ordered one simple roll + one sashimi for takeout during lunch break. Watched the slowest sushi-making experience possible go on for ~20 minutes. Sat down for lunch and noticed i was given the wrong roll. The food and portions were actually good otherwise, but the service was terrible.
