Great food and a casual, warm, friendly atmosphere. The watermelon margarita was SO good, fresh and simple, perfectly made. Chips, salsa, elote appetizer, chicken enchiladas - it was all delicious. It's a wide-ranging menu with very good prices and the kind of service that makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. I wish I lived closer! But, I will absolutely be back, there were many things on the menu I wanted to try.

Under the new ownership, this place is a gem! Service was incredibly quick, the drinks were perfectly crafted, and the food was absolutely excellent, every dish was spot on. Don’t be swayed by older reviews; our experience was flawless from start to finish. The highlight? A fresh tres leches cupcake that was hands-down the best I’ve ever had. We’ll definitely be coming back!

WOW!! I've eaten here before but they have really vamped up the food. Our meals were excellent. I'm a beef chimichanga girl and I can tell you this was in my top 5 best chimichangas in my life. Rice and beans were excellent also. Rice was super fluffy and yummy. The Albondigas soup was so good and flavorful. And the chips they served when you sit down? Fresh, hot and super crispy LIKE THEY SHOULD BE. The salsa and guac was on point too. I was full and kept eating because it was so good. High Five! 04/08/2025

We have dined here for many years off and on, even before they moved to this location. We have dined in mostly with occasional take out. We have never had a bad experience. Sometimes they get really busy, but food and service is always great. Their salsa is my favorite salsa. Keep up the good work.

Love it here. Have been coming in for the last 14+ years & always leave satisfied. Always get the beef taco(s) rice & beans. Tacos are crunchy perfection without being greasy, the rice is fluffy/flavorful & the beans are creamy cheesy goodness. The chips & salsa are a must - ask for a spoon! The staff is friendly & attentive. Beer & margs, atmosphere, good portioned tasty food 🤌🏼🤌🏼🤌🏼 A local gem & worth the drive for non-locals, too.

My wife and I have been coming to La Carreta for over 20 years. I saw some one-star reviews about the service. Over the years there have been a small number of servers that were less than perfect but overwhelmingly the staff has been outstanding. Even the few that weren't the best waiters were still very friendly. Anyone who had poor service, please don't let that form your opinion, it doesn't happen very often. This is a family run restaurant and they take pride in their customer relations. The food is what has kept us coming back for decades. I've had everything on the menu many times and it's always been consistently the same: delicious. The chips are homemade and fresh, crisp and not oily. The salsa is exceptional and could be marketed on a national scale (though it wouldn't be the same). The portions are large but taste so good I never have leftovers. I can't say enough good things, this is our favorite restaurant in all of San Diego.

Decent food, great decor & smelled clean as I walked in - great start. Not too pricy with large portion sizes. Some unexpected dishes here, aside from the standard fare. Pleasant surprise just off the freeway. Would go 3.5 stars only since it's not like a fully fancy 4 star.

We waited ten minutes for her to come back in this time a girl came in needed to be trained. I could see her back talking finally got her attention she says I'll be there. Another 5 minutes we wait while she talks. She take our order I ask for water never comes back .I go to get it myself. Bring food ask do we need any thing I say salt never comes back we get it off another table. Ask for box after getting her attention never brings it till I ask two more times the food was very good but service was not.

Chicken and steak tasted identical...ie bland. Atmosphere? No music. System was broke said the waitress. There is no reason to eat here. None.
