Wow…such a great little diner. Don’t expect much in decor, but the coffee was great and the omelets are so good. Homemade raisin bread was my favorite.
Super friendly servers. Laid back atmosphere. The Fluffy bicute are home made and the best since grandma. A must !
Loved it. We had omelets. Yummy! Not skimpy on the stuffings. (lots of choices) I had home fries. Very good. My husband had the grits, pretty normal. The biscuits were great. Prices were pretty good too. I really like finding non-corporate restaurants. This is a gem... I will be going back.
I drove far to meet my cousin there and I must say it was totally worth the trip. Food portions are epic and I don't think I saw anything on the menu over $10. The wait staff was super friendly and can play along with jokes. The decor is pretty amazing too, give it a few more days and it will be in style again.
My wife and I ate here today, the food was fantastic. Our service was great as well. We love the look of Rise and Shine too! Don't change!
This place is the classic hole in the wall....very authentic....my mother and I are African Americans and have never experienced ANY type of racism. The chicken fried steak is AMAZING and the fact you can get anything in your omlette is so cool!!! The staff is friendly and very nice....they guy in the back cooking is always smiling...and the lady owner is so nice--very lovely people working hard to make a living. I passed out thier business cards....that's how good it is...
This a good home style breakfast place. Not fancy looking but very clean and down home service. Breakfast menu is great, eggs bacon and pancakes just right. For those that like a heavier breakfast it's on the menu. Cost of meals affordable. Don't drive fast you may pass it up. Good food all.
Im not even the type to leave reviews for stuff but the customer service and food was THAT GOOD!!! if I could give extra stars I would. Everything was amazing. I had the chicken fried chicken breakfast with pancakes and got fuller than I've been in a while.
I had the Western omelet w/hash brown with biscuit and gravy... Oh my! I could only finish about 1/3 of it. But the best part was the biscuit! Light, buttery and delicious! This place took me back to the old time "greasy spoon" I remember going to add young girl! What a great find! Great food, delivered to the table fast and a great bargain. Good service too!
Asian-owned breakfast diner. Omelets are the specialty with lots of options for toppings. I had "the special" which was a hash. It was really good. The biscuit and gravy that came with it wasn't very good. Service was great. The vibe of the place was ok.
They have the BEST breakfast. So many types of omelets plus other great food. They make their own bread which is heavenly. The portions are large. Nothing fancy inside. Like an old timey diner with wonderful food.
Found this place and thought we would try it. Were pleasantly surprised. Great service and the food was good. A good value as well. Doesn't look to great from outside but go ahead a go in. Think you'll like it also.
Don't be scared away by how the outside looks!!! We didn't know what we were getting into but holy moly this place is great!!! We got the omelets bc that's what the reviews talked about. They were great and I usually don't like omelets. BUT the shining star are the BISCUITS. I'm coming back and I'm just going to get a mountain of biscuits and gravy. This is DEFINITELY worth a stop!!
This place is a breakfast staple in our opinion. If you want to order to go it's really fast and easy. I really enjoy the skillet breakfast as well as the California Garbage.
Comfortable place for breakfast, the food was good and the atmosphere was almost home like. I don't get here often but do enjoy coming.
The absolute best! Loved the service. Loved the food! My new favorite place to eat. Would recommend this place if you like home style breakfast and home made bread. I'd eat here everyday if I could. Price was right too.
What a gem! I took my one year old grandson here for breakfast and was welcomed like family. Food came out fast and was good. My grandson made a mess and was reassured many times but to sweat it. Watched many regulars come in and the interactions were wholesome. My grandson and I will be back.
We love this place for breakfast!! Good old-fashioned food and service.
You'd never come here on your own... but if you do come here you'll definitely come back. The food is not your typical diner food - with over 50 different omelet combinations to choose from or make up... food was awesome, it was fast, the coffee was excellent, the servers delightful. Gwen was perfection - everything right and fun in one server! We will be back for sure!
The server habds down the best! Would come back for sure
Walked over here because it was the closest place open from were I was getting my tires changed. I didn’t have any expectations I was just needing to kill time, and I was extremely hungry. The staff was super nice and helpful. I received hot fresh food very quickly and it was delicious. The waitress gave me a coffee To-go and when I went to pay it was a very fair price. Definitely recommend for a quick breakfast.
This place has great food and service. The restaurant is an older restaurant, and it could use a little upgrading. However, when the food and service are soo good, you don't care about those things. I really like going here for breakfast. Y'all should give it a try!
Cindy had an omelette and I had eggs, sausage, taters and biscuits. All very good. Bette than mom cause she never cooked like this. Had leftovers and ordered a bit more for breakfast tomorrow AM. Staff was awesome!!!
Quick service great food. Biscuits are amazing. We were there a couple of weekends ago and they stated the changed the recipe for their biscuits.
The bread 🍞 was fresh made. Biscuits were mouth watering. We had a large party for mothers day. The staff was very accommodating, friendly and knowledgeable. Everyone in our party enjoyed our food.
Good home cooking. I love the breakfast here even at lunch time. Portions are huge and your plate, and belly, are full. Fast service that doesn't taste fast. They also have several selections of homemade breads. They have a very large fish tank by the cash register that kids will enjoy. The waitresses are awesome and will take good care of you. It is always a good experience every time I patron this establishement.
We enjoy coming here, the staff is always great. The menu could benefit from a few more original dishes, but it tastes good. The biscuits are the best!
We decided to try this place after going to Denny's, IHOP, and Waffle House and being told there was an hour wait at each place. The outside and inside of the building is a little older looking. But the food was very good! Big portions and the service was great! Never let my coffee cup see the bottom. Highly recommended if you want homestyle breakfast.
Great service everytime I go. Highly recommend the omelettes, always delicious but haven't had a bad item here yet anytime I come and try something different. Interior could use a freshen up of some sort inside. It looks it's age, but easy to look past with the service and food always being fresh.
homemade biscuits very tasty very good selection of omelettes Nice hometown atmosphere and reasonable price update very very disappointing went and sat down to have coffee lady said call me when ready called her three times never come over , she said she did not hear me. I told her I called her three times then she was very snobby., talk to manager she acted like she did not care will never go back☹️☹️☹️
I've been going here for a while now I brought my first date here especially love their omelette
This is one of my favorite places to go when I'm visiting family. Their skillet breakfasts are phenomenal, and the portion sizes guarantee you won't leave hungry. They make a great biscuits and gravy, and you can't go wrong with their raisin bread (ask for syrup to go with it for a poor man's French toast). Highly recommend it!
Always a great place to start the day. Same staff for years and they are amazing!
The service was excellent I definitely enjoyed the waitress, The food was good , I think the grits needed a little more seasoning, but they were good. I will stop in again soon!
Good food and nice prices. Service is fast and the staff is very friendly. I never hesitate to go here for breakfast. The omlettes are very good but for my taste they need more salt but that is easy enough to fix. The biscuits and gravy are fantastic as well! The coffee is not bad either. All in all it is a good place for breakfast and I have never had a bad experience yet. 2025 update: Food is still great. Chicken fried steak and eggs was delicious and the handmade biscuits are light, buttery and delicious! Their hash browns are thin so they crisp up nicely and go great with the eggs. They don't really season the eggs and hash browns because they leave that to you which after thinking about it I really like because that means they won't over salt them. The coffee is still good and not bitter and has a nice nutty flavor. I will definitely be coming back to this gem!
Our server Lova was excellent. If you're looking for a local Texas style home cook breakfast, this is the place to come.. Atmosphere was warm, all the servers help each other And the food is really tasty and just what you would expect for home cooked meal with large generous portions. The best part was the price was easy on your wallet. Try this diner, you will not be disappointed.
Hadn't been to this place in 10 years. Came back and the food was just as good as I remember. I'm going to have to remember to add cheese to my home fries next time. Lindsey, my server was a lovely person and I really enjoyed talking with her. She's hilarious. So glad that I moved right down the street. Definitely will be a repeat customer from now on. Also, try the avocado bacon omelette.
Absolutely loved this little place. The music isn't so loud that you can't talk like some other diners. It has such an oldtimy feel and the dining room and bathroom were extremely clean. The waiters were so helpful and kind. Its so refreshing to have a small town feel in the middle of the city. Oh and the food was wonderful! Very large portions for the price which is so nice, especially nowadays
We reserved today for a party of four. Table was actually reserved with a small sign. We wanted to experience something different & we were not disappointed. We each tried a different dish and shared just to sample. Great food. We weren't sure if the wait staff were owners but they sure worked the floor like they were. They worked tirelessly & with a great smile & attitude. We will be back!!
Probably the best place in Arlington for homemade omelets. By far better than your typical breakfast chains. I was pleased that they had an option to replace the potatoes with the omelette, delicious fresh tomatoes! I'm back again in 2025 and rise and shine is still just as good if not better because they have Christmas decorations everywhere!! Our server, Susan, was super nice and always kept my coffee cup full. My friend loved the pancake short stack.
I honestly dont know how this place could get less than 5 stars. First off, service was amazing. Very kind and attentive waitress, wish I would have got her name. She deserves a raise!! The food amazing. Fresh veggies, fresh biscuits, fresh raisin bread.
My favorite place to eat when I’m in the area. Food is awesome. Service is great. Very friendly. Great atmosphere.
If good homestyle cooking in a small town diner atmosphere is what you're looking for, Rise & Shine is a nice little restaurant just off of Pioneer Parkway that offers a small town atmosphere in the DFW's third largest city. Staff is super friendly, the prices are very affordable, the food is top notch, and the atmosphere of the place is really homey. It reminds me of the small town diners I've visited while traveling the Western US.
Used to come here all the time with my mom when I was a kid (I'm 24 now!) and let me just say: it's just as good as I remember, if not BETTER! I got the monte cristo and hashbrowns and the corned beef hash and goodness gracious you can bet your sweet bippy I WILL be returning. Everything was excellent, our server was an absolute sweetheart and it was really nice that I was able to get that same joyful experience from when I was a kid. They even still had the big fish tank!! DEFINITELY go here, because in my opinion it'll be pretty hard to be disappointed. Keep up the good work, y'all!
What a great out of the way place! The food is great and had to take some home in a box. The only thing I didn’t like was the seasoning in the sausage gravy, but I make my own at home sometimes so it’s just different from mine. The biscuits are homemade and delicious! They make homemade white bread and raisin bread, which my friend had…..also delicious! I had the meat omelette and added spinach and jalapeños. The server was wonderful and everyone was so attentive, helpful, and kind. It has a small town diner feel. The decor is older and homey. You can tell that this is a place where friends and families meet. If you have to have a slick and modern atmosphere, you might not like it. The only thing that could be better is the table arrangement, but it is a smaller place so seating is closer together. I like to think I will visit this place often. They are only open for breakfast and lunch, not dinner.
The food was great and the waitress was just a doll. My first time and i must say i felt like i was home. The atmosphere was inviting, beautiful fish tank and all. Definitely will be back
Omg. 10/5 stars! Server was amaziing!! Food was delicious!a Definitely coming back! And I don't know if anybody else will find this fascinating or not with the aquarium they have by the register has like the most neon pink angel fish I've ever seen in my life.. random fact.
I originally tried this place during the pandemic for the 1st time despite spending a lot of time in Arlington. Never tried it, it looks a little run down but man I regret never having come here. They specialize in omelets and man are they good. I’ve never been disappointed and this is my 3rd/4th time coming. The omelets are big, filling and come with a side of potatoes and either bread or biscuit and gravy. This place is good and it’s cheap. You won’t find this in some hipster magazine or dfw top 10 but can there omelets stack up with any restaurant on that list? Yes it can, it’s mostly locals and older folks who come in here but hopefully the secrets out on this great cheap local dive spot.
First thing, very good portion sizes. Has to be the best in value for money. Service was quick too. But someone screwed up the order I got cheddar instead of cream cheese, and was charged a bit for a small plate of cream cheese despite the screw up. Can't complain too much anyways since the service and food were good. Probably can work on taking orders better.
The restaurant is looking old. The building itself is ok. The parking is adequate.. The interior is need of upgrading. The food however is exceptional. Large portions. Coffee was good. I tried the breakfast skillet. Was plentiful. And a large pancake to boot.... Staff was pleasant and prompt. I recommend it..
It is a great place for a great old time fill you up breakfast. Not exactly a hole in the wall but it is. The home-made bread was fantastic. My husband loved the homemade biscuits.
Ordered country fried chicken, was surprisingly pleasant and juicy, the meat was sufficient thickness to give a full bite feeling. Omelette was okay, not the best but certainly not the worst I’ve had. But the star is definitely the country fried chicken, and 17 bucks for roast beef omelette, side order of country fried chicken and sausage link is fairly good priced as well.
I feel their biscuits and gravy competes for the best in Arlington, and you can get a good sized omelet made how you like it. Outdated atmosphere, but that never bothered me when it comes to breakfast food.
It's an old restaurant that kinda reminds me of those dinners in the oven shoes. Very quiet atmosphere. Very good food, a lot of the breads (biscuits, raisin bread, white bread) are actually made in house!! The biscuits are very good and soft and taste even better with their peppered gravy. The pancakes are absolutely amazing and the home fried are to die for. What I'm getting at is that the food here is phenomenal! The portion size is filling, but you would think they would be smaller judging by the prices. This is good, filling breakfast for a cheap price. I go here often because my boyfriend loves it!! I do to!
I haven't been to this location in 5 years or so. I just wanted a hot breakfast of biscuits and gravy. Biscuits were perfect homemade biscuits. Coffee was hot and the waitress was kind and attentive. There's no fancy gimmicks here, just good hot food, fair portion sizes and good hot coffee.
Biscuit's were mouth watering and perfect! Everything was excellent, only 1 complaint..the "HALF LOADED" baked potato had hardly any cheese and very little bacon. Otherwise it did still taste real good. Still.... 4 Stars. Was real busy so that tells you something. Home style comfort foods and omelettes are their specialty. I recommend this restaurant.
Food was good. Prices are extremely reasonable. I will say our whole group was impressed by the quality of the different dishes. I will agree with other comments the dated decor and ambiance does detract from the overall experience. However the biscuits and gravy were masterpieces.
Don't just keep driving past this place come on Inn. Nothing overwhelmingly exotic, but a great breakfast place! Was exactly what we needed. Perfect portions, easy prices, very tasty, and wonderful service! My mom and I just decided to go try some place we've never been this is a place I've driven past I can't even count how many times. This time we decided to go in. what a great surprise!!
The silver dollar pancakes were humongous, and our breakfast plates were also huge. Everything was tasty and fresh cooked to order. The wait staff were friendly, so much so that our waitress actually helped my son cut up his pancakes! We left full and happy.
Good food, with GREAT omelette options. The staff is cheerful and pretty good at what they do. It's the kind of place that the locals frequent, and plenty do. I've run in to old friends here, and struck up conversations with complete strangers. The food is well made and affordable. It's a great place to have breakfast in Arlington.
Visited on a weekday after local graduation. Only 1 server who was doing her best to keep up. Establishment aware of graduation so not sure why only 1 server on duty. Food good, not fancy, old school interior but, clean. Lots of parking. Restrooms clean too.
Great friendly service, good food, reasonably priced. My wife and I spent $21 and both had juice. Wife says egg plate was good but the pancake was great! No wait and nice size for seating.
It's ok. The service was actually very good, and the best thing there. We had breakfast; the food was "ok." The interior really needs to be redone; the blinds all hang at an angle and appear to be quite old, the beverage cups are a very old style, same with the coffee cups. Everything is just very outdated. It also looks like a chinese restaturant when you first walk in, so that can throw one off when expecting breakfast, since, in my experience, asian restaraunts typically open for lunch and dinner. Otherwise, the tables appeared to be clean, and the food was at least edible. The service was really good.
The service here is good, but the food is just OK. Omelets are my go to breakfast food and these are my least favorite, especially for a place that says it's their specialty. My eggs are usually a weird texture and my cheese is somehow not nice and melty, melt, old and seems to have been sitting out for a while. The home fries are diced potatoes and lack flavor and are disappointing. I try not to add salt to my food, but always do to my food here. Just not my favorite.
Good portions for the price. Service was lacking but I assume they were short-handed. Nice friendly, family atmosphere. Overall I enjoyed it! (extra $.25 per egg on all egg dishes)
The food is consistently very good. The wait staff is always friendly. The owner is a very difficult person to deal with. I would have to say the most difficult local business owner in the area. I asked to substitute the bread items for grits or tomatoes and the poor waiter had to plea with the owner to sub. I have a food allergy and can’t eat wheat products. My friend had weight loss surgery less that 9 months ago and has a card from a Dr that states she can get a kids meal. She refused to serve a kids meal to her, over served her food and still argued about serving a kids meal. It’s a shame that health reasons have to be debated and that a local business owner refuses to accommodate. Her choice to be unaccommodating, my choice to not eat there anymore.
A blast to the past of what was likely an old Grandy's Restaurant. The 54 omelets touted om the sign outside was disappointing (see picture of menu). Server was nice and tried to help us. She kept my coffee filled the entire meal. The dining area smelled like a nursing home - old and off-putting. Omelette was nothing special.
We decided to eat here for breakfast today as it had been a couple of years since we has been there. It’s was 8:30am on a Sunday & parking lot was just about bare. We went inside, sat down, & waitress took our drink order. Sitting at the booth, I noticed all the dirt & build up of dust along the wall where booth attached to the wall. I ordered the French Toast & my husband ordered breakfast burrito. My French Toast was as hard as a hockey puck with no evidence of batter. Neither of our dishes came with sides as they used to. The entire time we were there the waitress who did not have tables were sitting down eating & when a customer came in, they would greet, take drink order, & go back to eating until customer decided what to order. I’ve never seen a waitress let alone 4 do that plus one kept telling the others she was quitting because she couldn’t get next Saturday off for her nieces birthday. As a paying customer, I want a pleasant experience with good food & happy environment. I guess the red flag should have been the lack of cars in the parking lot on a weekend morning. Our waitress was nice but we only saw her twice as she had the other 5 tables of people total in the restaurant.
I want to like this place. There are not many good non franchise breakfast places. The place was dirty. The windows and blinds and walls had a heavy coat of dust. Every nook and cranny needed cleaning. It appeared the place is on it's last legs. The wait staff were struggling to keep up and there were only 3 of them and the place was packed. For the most part the patrons looked like they were retired, some were managers or contractors. People obviously not on a schedule that is tight. My food arrived after an hour of waiting. I guess that is the norm for them as I read through other reviews. It took even longer to pay to leave the place. The food was nothing special nor was it bad. I was hoping for a clean place to eat with service. This simply is not the case here.
I live right off of fielder and was told to try out this place. Well me and my wife were fairly disappointed with this place. We arrived at the place at 10:45am and placed our orders around 10:55am. The place was kind of pack, however we didn't think anything of it. A couple of other groups were set around us, and placed orders after us. 11:30am rolled around and we still had not received our food. The waitress came over and apologized that the order was taking so long. I asked her how long does it take to cook some pancakes and bacon. She said we only have three cooks and they are working as hard as they can. 11:45am rolls around and all of the white people sitting around us had their food, and we still did not. Me and my wife got up and just left. I've never been to a place where I was treated this bad before. I hardly ever write reviews however, I had such a BAD experience and was treated improperly because I was African American that I just had to write one.
My boyfriend ordered an omelette and I ordered one of their mixed breakfast skillets. The food took FOREVER for us to get. Although our waitress was polite and apologetic, this place is clearly understaffed. When we finally received our food, it was not even that great. Not horrible, but not great. Just okay. If you want a better breakfast for a better price and faster service, just go to IHOP. The one by the Parks Mall is usually really fast, even on Saturday mornings.
Food tasted good when we first got it... about an hour later my daughter and I didn't feel so good... A heavy feeling with a touch of nausea.. at least it wasn't food poisoning.... Better to stick with McDonald's or IHOP
Coffee tasted like hot water.hash brown tasted it was fried in old oil. They said
Not too too bad. Old dinner, food was O K. In need of major updates. They only had two waiters they were nice older ladies. My food didn’t come out to hot. The syrup was the cheap no frills kind. I brought my own creamer the coffee was ok. Would I go back probably not. $32 for two ppl not including tip
I'm sorry but the food was not good and it was not seasoned right. I love trying new places and this was not good the French toast tasted nasty and the biscuits and gravy had no flavor. I prefer Bay 34th street over this place any day!!!
We enjoy looking for home-style restaurants for breakfast and found this place on Google...eventhough they were slightly busy, it should not take nearly 40 minutes for an omelette and a biscuit. The vegetables in the omelette were not cooked before adding them to the eggs. The overall decor was rundown as well...we will not be going back!
I came here years ago & never came back. First off, the food was good. Service from the waiters/servers was very good. But the management was horrible. When a server was taking orders from a table of 5, the owners (presumably) were yelling from the front, "Service!". After several times, the server had to shout back that she was with customers. When I went to pay, the old Asian lady at the register looked at my receipt & asked if I wanted to write down a tip. I pretended to be dumb & acted like I didn't know what that was. But I did leave a cash tip at my table for the servers. The servers looked like they didn't like the management at all. If you are going to treat your staff like that, you don't deserve to be open for this long. Just watch any episode of "Kitchen Nightmares"
My neighbor and I went to rise and shine to have breakfast. Upon entering, there is a sign on the door that states, 25 cents additional charge for ,3 or more eggs due to shortage of eggs." Well, I understand the cost of groceries have gone up due to inflation" Why not increase the cost of the items $1.00 or$2.00 on the menu instead of charging your customers additional money that is more than what the sign on the door is advertising. I ordered bacon, eggs, hashbrowns & 1 waffle. The waitress told me that she would make what I ordered a meal instead of a separate price for each item. The waitress did not explain that there would be additional charges placed on our order. So when we get to the counter. The Asian mgr. attitude was abrasive. She was combative. When we tried to speak to her regarding the issue, she was rude and over talked us so that we couldn't get a word in otherwise. She kept going on and on, which caused me to become stressed, embarrassed, and sick too, my stomach. All she had to do was listen to the customer. The customer is always supposed to be right. She charged $3.50 for 3 eggs that were supposed to come with the meal. But wait a minute, the sign says an additional 25 cents per egg. Isn't 3×25 = 75 cents. The waitress did not explain the menu properly, nor did she tell us we would incur additional charges. This was my first and last time to eat in this place. The employees were yelling at us going out the door because a gentleman paid for our food. There are really some kind ppl in the world. I thank this man whoever he is. May God continue to bless his life. However, I would not recommend this place to anyone. My food was luke warm when I got it. I had to ask for them to reheat my food. The coffee was a person l warm. The place was dusty and dingy looking. My eggs were not cooked the way I asked them to do it. This is a mom and pop kind of place. They need to thoroughly clean the place and wash the windows. My friend says her food was not that good. It was cold when it was served. I had to ask for my breakfast to be reheated. A manager is supposed to make the customer feel comfortable. She should have apologized for the misrepresentation and misunderstanding of the menu. She should have taken the high road and knocked a few bucks off of our bill. She didn't. She was nasty, condescending, and angry. So I stood my ground. I am sick and suffer from a chronic illness. You never know what a person may be going through . The atmosphere should be warm and inviting. Instead, it was felt coldcandcaloof. We were ridiculed and insulted. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If you do eat there, get a clear understanding of the cost of your meal. Make sure the waitress is knowledgeable about the menu items and if there will be any additional hidden costs for your order. Every place I have been to eat lets you know when and if there are additional charges. I meant what I said. I felt cheated and shocked and baffled by the level of disrespect from the mgr. And her employees. But leadership flows from the head down, right? Eat at Ihop or dennys. This place gets an F.
Food was awful, greasy greasy greasy!!! I placed an order for french toast and it was disgusting. I thought the bread was just dipped in lard...no taste at all. I would never recommend this place.
The worst booking experience of my life. I booked a dinner party only for it to be canceled due the restursnts error of having a private event. Kathy would not
The server was great. The restaurant is very outdated. The food tastes the same. They're still using the same cups, plates and silverware from the original opening. Tried the bacon and bacon and sausage skillet. Both were tasteless and prepared terrible. Should have known when the skillet came a plate and the potatoes were boiled. Only plus is they had grapefruit juice.
My husband and I decided to try a new place so we came to Rise and Shine. Our server was friendly but insisted on speaking loudly to other patrons about politics and her views. We let her know a restaurant is on place to speak loudly about political issues. We got our food to go and left. The food was a little pricey and just meh. Will not go back!
The waitress was more interested in having family time. Then taking our order .she did not listen not coming back it was the first and it will be the last time
Ordered breakfast. Eggs were overcooked, bacon was burnt & tough & last but not least, the Rye toast was STALE! They were serving expired bread. I will not be going back.
