We had a bunch of dumplings, noodles and chocolate soup dumplings as dessert! The chocolate soup dumpling tasted delicious. Will visit again.
For years, most Fridays we'd order from here. Everything's good, but we love the Kung Pao Tofu and Garlic Eggplant, as well as the Lotus / Red Bean Buns! Absolutely incredible food!
Too many delicious choices. The dumplings are made from scratch so be sure to order some. Besides tasting the cilantro and chicken dumplings, I also had the chocolate and coconut milk dumplings. Both were excellent. I ordered the Japanese udon noodles with chicken - very tasty and quite a large portion.
The food is super authentic — no gimmicks, just solid Chinese cooking. Their mapo tofu is hands-down the best in Austin: spicy, numbing, full of flavor, just like it should be. The decor is simple, nothing fancy, but honestly, that’s a good sign. So many Austin spots focus on looks and forget the food — not here. Prices are really reasonable, portions are generous, and everything tastes homemade. Definitely my go-to for real Chinese food.
I came here because a reviewer said the vegan options were clearly marked. I didn't see anything on the paper menus on each table. but the nice book menus by the register have the dishes clearly marked with a green V. I enjoyed my vegan chinese dishes here. They were very quickly served and very delicious I asked for soft tofu(not fried) for my kung pao tofu and it was great! mu seaweed salad was very tasty as well
Delicious food, great prize, generous portions. I like the General Tso chicken but occasionally mix it up with other chicken dishes. The cream cheese puffs and an ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE! The portions are incredible, the flavor is amazing, everywhere else over charges for the same or worse product, we go out of our way to Fat Dragon for the cream cheese puffs alone. We always take our food home though and you can order online and pick up. Also, complementary unsweetened tea while you wait and amazing to-go set up with bowls, plates, boxes, etc. I love this place!
Tried Fat Dragon as delivery when my local go to place closed. I was AMAZED by the food, and the portions. This was easily 2+ meals for myself and every piece of chicken was perfect. Broccoli chicken is typically my go to and this is the best one I've had hands down. Soft, savory, with an amazing amount of sauce. Not pictured is a large container of rice that was also 2 meals worth. So tasty especially with the sauce. Cream cheese puffs were also delicious! A lovely amount of filling with the perfect crispy outside. Tried the miso & hot sour soup as well and both were delicious, and such a great portion size as well. Delicious for dipping in too. This will now be the go to place. The quality of everything was top notch. Definitely recommend checking them out or getting it delivered on a night in.
Had such an amazing experience at this restaurant. We ate on New Years Day near when it opened, and it's a very relaxed atmosphere. Food came out hot and is decently priced. You get a great meal for what you pay for. For the amount of food we got, it was about $55. Would definitely come back again.
I've ordered the Spicy Mala Drop Dumplings from this place over, and over, and over again. They have become one of my favorite places and foods to eat. Absolutely delicious. Everything that I have ever ordered from here has been delicious. I've had the ramen, lo mein, fried rice, beef, pork, chicken, shrimp -- it's all good. The regular dumplings are pretty good, but a bit more bland for my flavor palette. I would suggest them if you're not a fan of any kind of spice. The softness soaks up flavor and melts in your mouth. I'll drop one into a cup of hot and sour or egg drop soup. Very nice combo. Pork fritter in Gua Boa was solid. Best egg drop soup I've had. It's a hint sweet, fairly thick consistency. Serving size was about twice what I expected for a "cup", so that was nice. The dry pot beef was INCREDIBLE. One of the best tasting meals I've had in years. Extra spicy. Will definitely be ordering that again.
A cozy little spot, good for meeting up with friends. You seat yourself and wait for a menu. Prices are fairly cheap, and the atmosphere is fun and casual. I had the Sesame Chicken dish and was surprised at the ridiculous amount of chicken on my plate. Generally you have to ration out your chicken between bites of rice, but the sheer amount I received had me doing the opposite! Pleasantly stuffed and satisfied.
Just checked out this Chinese spot, and it’s awesome if you’re all about great food with no BS. Definitely not your typical American-style restaurant—here, you order at the counter and pay upfront, which I actually liked. They only do food running, so no waiting around for a server to take your order. The food came out super quick, and everything tasted good. The vibe isn’t anything fancy, but it works if you’re just looking to grab a bite or pick up takeout. I tried the creamy miso ramen and orange chicken—both were solid. The orange chicken was delicious, but heads up: no veggies in sight, and it ended up being a bit too much chicken for one person. Overall, though, I had a great experience! Also don’t forget to order a scallion pancake, they were just WOW.
The Dan Dan noodles were not like any other Dan Dan noodles I've ever had and were very ramen-like (soupy). The pork egg rolls were delicious and fried to perfection. The chicken fried rice, perfectly seasoned tasty. Finally the spicy soup dumplings were well made and the last dish to arrive to our table. We are them very quick as they are meant to be eaten whole warm. They were yummy and soul soothing. Old school feel to the place and prices are very fair. Come hungry and leave full. The ladies restroom was not in the best condition but the food made it worth the 30 min drive.
The food was amazing. We had orange chicken with just the right amount of spice and a subtle hint of garlic. The Gen. Tso. Chicken wasn't as spicy but had a small kick still had lots of flavor. Crispy and shy with the sauce great combination. The egg rolls were crispy on outside and perfect inside. Hot & sour soup hubby says it's 9 1/2 need to try the soup. Generous portion sizes. We came across this place in my search for dinner after denying all other suggest by the hubby lol..... glad I did cause we wouldn't of found this spot.
Small restaurant with BIG FLAVOR. You order at the counter and then your food arrives. When it arrives, it is nice & hot...oh, how I like my served from the kitchen directly to the table (no heat lamp food here)! Dumplings are made fresh to order. The aromas from their ramen soup is exquisite. There are several vegetarian options. Also, do not forget to order the chocolate dumplings - it's like chocolate dancing in your mouth...yum! The prices are also very reasonably price.
Miso and Hot/Sour soup were great. Kong Pao Chicken was “good, but not the best”. It’s worth noting that they are HUGE portions as well. Unfortunately the Chinese Fried Rice w/ Chicken wasn’t good. :( No flavor and not enough protein despite its huge portion. Customer Service provided wasn’t too great; at least during my visit. Overall. Worth trying at least once, but not sure I’d come back again.
The majority of the food we got was ok, but The pork in my tonkatsu ramen tasted like it had gone bad. Not exaggerating, it might have been spoiled, I'm positive it is not supposed to taste like that. The ramen itself was good. The soup dumplings were pretty gummy and dry. Bao buns with the fried pork belly were good. Chicken with broccoli wasn't bad.
Disappointing considering my friend once spoke very highly of this place. I never got around to trying it while she was still in town. Just ordered takeout. The service was quick. I ordered the mala mala soup dumplings, Szechuan chicken, and red bean bun. I was expecting everything to be spicy. Sad to say that wasn’t the case. The dumplings were ok. I was expecting more flavor. I was surprised by the Szechuan chicken. I expected stirfry chicken and vegetables but instead there is a very generous portion of fried chicken chunks. It’s a lot of food. But there is no sauce and the chicken was very dry and not spicy at all. There is a strong coriander flavor. I wound up pouring the broth from the dumplings over the chicken to try to make it a little more moist. They also forgot to include the rice. The red bean buns are different. Crispy dough and plenty of red bean paste. Tasty. Not really what I was expecting. I don’t think I’ll be returning.
WARNING TO FUTURE DINERS... ⚠️ I received the most appalling service here i have ever received in my entire life... Today my friend and I decided to stop by fat dragon for some soup dumplings. On arrival it was empty inside and silent... 0 atmosphere. We ordered soup dumplings, crunchy roll, miso soup. Everything came out one by one and all way fine, miso very salty but crunchy roll was nice. Then the soup dumplings came out, they tasted like the pork was spoiled... we called the waitress or I presume the owner of the store over and she promptly said her soup dumplings were the best, followed by sticking her hands in my friends food picking up a dumpling and eating it right infront of us... then repeating with my soup dumplings and telling me once again it must be us that doesn't know what a soup dumplings tastes like... I have never received service like this in my entire life, I was so in awe my friend and I had our jaws on the ground. We promptly left...
Ordered takeout for four. Sesame Chicken hard tasted old. Nothing in fried rice but soy sauce and a little egg. Beef Broccoli a little better but still bland. Other two dinners were dumplings my friends said they were ok. First and last time here
Finding good Chinese food in Austin is a challenge. Fat Dragon used to have decent quality food. Unfortunatley, it is now absolutely garbage. The restaurant is under new management and it is significantly worse than before. Food is all overcooked and dried out, especially the meat. Is it chicken, or leather. Making it worse, everything is way over salted. So salty. I need a drink just thinking about it. On our latest order, they left out the soup dumplings and refused to acknowledge or provide a credit. Now, they're ripping customers off to make a little extra money. It's sad where this place has gone. For your health and wellbeing, stay far away from Fat Dragon. Definitely do NOT recommend.
