We always enjoy coming here the lobby is always clean, and the cashiers are the best very welcoming!!! Food is delicious!!!
My first time ordering from this restaurant, it is a small place but still able to find a seat. Most of them just have a bite and move on, but alot of people are just take away. I order a spicy chicken sandwich and I was surprised it was really good, the meat is really tender and I really love it. It comes with fried French fries, it is really thick, just nice, the staffs are really hard working, only saw 2 person serving drive thru and walk in customers. Maybe there more staffs behind which I didn’t see. Will definitely come again.
Great service, restaurant is very clean and the food is delicious!!! Definitely recommend!
They don't always have it, even when advertised, but the Smokehouse chicken is one of my favorite chicken meals among all fast food places. You get a real half chicken, one side and a honey butter biscuit, all for $5. What a great deal! You'll be licking your fingers for sure after eating this! It's not a super large chicken but for $5 it's a good value.
This batch of fried chicken seems to be freshly made and is very delicious. It doesn’t have a juicy burst, but the meat is very tender and not dry, and the skin is crispy. It’s better than the ones I had before. This place always has plenty of seating available, and the service is very fast.
They do there work very well. They are very clean . I enjoy buying from here. Food is not cold.
I have a churches chicken right next to me and yet I drive down to this one no matter where I’m at. The food is always fresh and my order is accurate:)
Love Churches!! Not only is this a TEXAS chicken eatery I believe it's superior to other spots. The pieces are huge and the flavor is delicious and consistent. I know it's frustrating to wait but it is so worth it.
First time visit - loved it!! You order at the desk and they bring the food to your table. Arrived around 6:30 and it was packed! It was a little hard to hear sometimes but it was because everyone was chit chatting, which you can’t blame people for. We loved the Mongolian beef (melts in your mouth!) and the dry sautéed green beans. My boyfriend also really enjoyed the dry pot pork intestines (not my thing, but good!) and the stir fry shredded potato (a little too potato-crunchy for me).
TLDR: Amazing restaurant with dishes you can’t find elsewhere in Austin. Spicy as heck, but absolutely worth the pain. 12/10 stars. I recommend the cumin lamb and your choice of dry pot. —— House of Three Gorges immediately became one of my favorite restaurants in Austin the first time I visited. Don’t expect a fancy dining experience, but the fact this place is almost always packed speaks for itself. The cumin lamb is one of the best dishes I’ve had in Austin and the dry pot of any kind (I like the shrimp) is to die for. Caveat: I am your typical white lady, but be warned - this place does NOT hold back on the spice. It blows my lil white tastebuds right off my tongue. BUT it’s one of those flavorful spice bombs, not the kind that burns your face off without reason. I seriously was blowing on my bite of dry pot trying to “cool it off” because I was high on the spiciness and Szechuan peppercorns. It’s spicy as heck but impossible to stop eating. If you’re trying to build your spice tolerance this is the place to go, otherwise opt for mild if you’re white n wimpy like me. On the topic of reheating: of course this place is best fresh in the restaurant and some of the dishes will be impossible to reheat well. But I HIGHLY recommend an air fryer for reheating. I blast the cumin lamb at 400 degrees in my air fryer until it’s nice and crispy and the flavor is INSANE. Some of the best leftovers I’ve ever had. If you’re afraid of seed oils stay away. This is an authentic Chinese restaurant, not a Cava. Go eat some cereal if you’re that afraid of oil.
I loved how thoughtfully each item was cooked and how much effort clearly goes into every dish. The restaurant was packed, which says a lot. The Jumping Fish ($18.50) came in a flavorful broth with plenty of fish pieces. The fish was perfectly cooked and delicately spiced — it literally melted in my mouth. The Cumin Beef ($18.50) had a very interesting preparation; the beef was incredibly soft, moist, and buttery, not chewy or dry at all. Personally, I’m not a big fan of cumin beef as a dish, but the execution was excellent. The Sichuan Dry Stir-Fried Chicken ($15.99) was my favorite — deep-fried with the perfect crunch. Even after the drive home, it stayed crispy on the outside and juicy inside, never soggy. My only downside was the spice level — even regular or medium was extremely spicy, with the cumin beef really burning my tongue. I’d strongly recommend ordering mild or least spicy if you want to fully enjoy the flavors. Every dish came with rice.
Food was delicious. Food is mainly family style and portion is enough for 2-3 adults. My husband and I didn't know this and ordered General Chow Chicken and Mongolian Beef, in which we took a majority of it home. FYI: Not great reheated. We also got the Hot and Sour Soup-very good! If 2 people are getting the same soup, I recommend getting the small individual bowls. We ordered the large bowl to share for $1 more and it filled both our soup bowls. Get the large bowl if 3 people are getting the same soup. We live out in S.A and will definitely be back.
Really great restaurant to come at least to try at the very minimum. Would suggest to get there early because it fills up extremely fast. We got there like 10 minutes after they opened on a Sunday and it was practically full. We ordered the General Tso Chicken, jumping fish, green beans and wonton soup. They were all delicious and amazing. Entrees range $15-$20 but they give good portion sizes so it’s worth it
One of the amazing cuisines in Austin, Tx Authentic taste and amazing customer service, the taste is extraordinary.. Spicy fish fillet, Mongolian Beef :: always call before you go you don’t know maybe it’s 30 minutes waiting time:: The restaurant is among several Asian cuisine restaurants but the taste one of the best restaurants taste and service highly recommended.. When you come of 183 southbound you’ll take Ohlen road exit and the restaurant will be on your right hand side next to Ramen Tatsu-ya noodles
House of Three Gorges is the real deal if you’re craving Sichuan flavors done right. From the moment you walk in, the aroma of chili, garlic, and peppercorn tells you you’re in for something special. The space itself is pretty unpretentious and cozy—nothing over the top, just a place where the food gets all the spotlight. We tried a bunch of dishes and every one impressed: the Cumin Lamb was fragrant, tender, with just enough kick; the Eggplant in Garlic Sauce was silky, with that perfect sweet‑savory balance; Mapo Tofu for the classic numb‑and‑spicy pull; and the Jumping Fish (fresh pepper variation) was bold and memorable. Portions are generous, so sharing a few dishes is the way to go. Service was fast, friendly, and honest. Yes, things can get busy (this place is popular!), but the wait is worth it. Also nice: they’ll adjust spice levels if you want to dial things up or down. If you love authentic Sichuan, or just want something that pushes flavor boundaries without being pretentious, this is one of the best Chinese spots in Austin. Highly highly recommend.
My wife and I are huge fans of House of Three Gorges! We’ve been coming here at least once a week because the Sichuan food is just that good—authentic, flavorful, and always hits the spot. The gentleman at the register never fails to greet us with a big, warm smile, which makes every visit feel so welcoming. The service overall is fantastic, with the staff always being attentive and friendly. Just a heads-up, during peak lunch and dinner hours, expect a 25-35 minute wait—it’s totally worth it, though! If you’re craving legit Sichuan cuisine, this place is a must-try. Highly recommend!
Oh man what can I add about this place that hasn’t already been said? As a vegetarian, I will say this is easiest the best vegetarian mapo tofu that not only you can get in Austin but in the states. I have had other vegetarian mapo tofu both here and in LA (specifically the San Gabriel Valley where there is a large population of Asians) and the flavor of the vegetarian mapo tofu here is easily one of the best. It has the perfect amount of spiciness without being overwhelmingly spicy and I love that the dish wasn’t too oily at all. It pairs perfectly with rice - a little spicy, a little tingly, a little umami from black bean paste they use. My husband who eats meat thought it was also delicious as well and didn’t even miss the ground pork that mapo tofu traditionally comes in. We also had the dry sautéed green beans which comes in like a dry pepper sauce - the green beans were the perfect texture crunchy on outside but tender on the inside and the seasoning added a lot of flavor. Note this isn’t a garlic green bean in’s of dish so if you’re eating it hoping to get some garlic flavor think again. We also got the eggplant in garlic sauce which was served in what I kind of think as a way more fragrant and garlic heavy teriyaki sauce that isn’t overly salty which I loved. Portions are huge! We always are able to make 2-3 meals out of the dishes. Waiting wise, they do have a tablet set up front that you can put yourself on the waitlist if all the tables are full. On a Saturday night at 5:30 PM for table of 2 we waited 10 minutes. You will put your number in on the tablet and they text you when a table is ready. You then go to the counter to order after before sitting down. Parking is free as it is in a huge strip mall next to Target.
We had a flavorful experience at The House of Gorges! Tried the Fresh Pepper Jumping Fish, which was tender and packed with bold, peppery heat which was definitely a standout. The Cumin Lamb was fragrant with just the right amount of spice, while the Mala Chicken brought that addictive numbing kick without overwhelming the palate. The Beef with Green Onion was comforting, juicy and well balanced. I love beef! The Fish Fillet Hotpot came bubbling and aromatic, loaded with flavor. Fried rice was simple but a nice base to balance the mains. A great spot if you’re into spicy Sichuan flavors!
We absolutely loved our meal at House of Three Gorges. I definitely recommend trying multiple dishes because it's fun to share and the food is amazing! Everything that we ate was delicious. The dried green beans were probably the star of the show - perfectly cooked and with incredible spices. The Szechuan flavor was strong with all of the dishes. I don't think I had ever experiences the tingling sensation before- like my tongue was a little tingly with a nice subtle amount of heat. The dry pot cauliflower was also incredibly tasty, along with the jumping fish. The mapo tofu was a fun dish, but not my favorite. We'll definitely be back! And I recommend you stopping next door for some bubble tea as a sweet treat to top it off!
Such delicious food. Here’s what you MUST order: jumping fish + cumin beef. Honorable mentions are the salt and pepper pork, wonton soup, and egg plant. Oh and the fried rice is great. You can’t go wrong everything is good. Restaurant is always busy so save a few minutes to wait in line. Owners are really nice. Service is wonderful. A proper Chinese restaurant that Austin really needed.
The spicy tenders were fresh, but not my regular ones u could tell they sat for a while.
Busy. Quick. Spicy. Loved this place and specially the Sichuan dry stir-fry chicken. IT WAS SO CRUNCHY! The spice was perfect. I can’t wait to go and try it again. The cumin beef, on the other hand, did not live up to the expectations. There was too much cumin in it. The smell of cumin was too overpowering and I really think it is an overhyped dish at this place. I will definitely be back and try the hot pot and other things, just not cumin beef.
A small family owned place serving very legit Sichuan fare. Prices are mid but portions are large. The boiled beef had a very generous portion of tender succulent beef that was delicious in the hot oil and Sichuan peppers. The mapo tofu was the traditional Sichuan style with the broadbean spicy paste. Would definitely come back fir the boiled fish
This location sucks. I love racking up points as I purchase on my apps for future buys but at this location they don’t do earning points as you buy. Manager acted brand new, like she didn’t even know Church’s had an app. 🤦🏻♀️ and she was the GM. Really!?!? Educated your ppl.
What happened to yalls CHICKEN sandwich? Looks like a Tyson patty I could buy way cheaper at the store. Disappointing from a CHICKEN place
So I had a very bad experience at the drive-through window, where they rung up my order incorrect when I went to explain to the lady that my order was not correct and that she had charged me for a drink when I asked for a strawberry pie another associate came to the window name Ben he was very slick At the tongue when I formed that he was not going to speak to me in that manner because I had corrected them. He became all right. All of this is on the cameras and side of the store the Internet on June 14, 2024 at 1:49 PM and I pray that MANAGER sees this and can reach back out to me. I’ve also left all of the information on you alls website. Once then, seeing that I pull out my phone to storage take pictures close the window and walk off. I went inside the store to take more food photos and he kept his back turned if I need to come up there to identify him I will. also he was handling people food, waiting no food glove on as you could clearly see in the picture
place never has spicy chicken even at 5 in the afternoon. The Jalapeño bombers were very sad. They were cold and old. Cheese was dry and coagulated. tried this place 3 times and each time something is wrong with the order.
I don’t think ill come back to this location I ordered a chicken sandwich and got the worst sandwich ever
They forgot my peppers I paid for, my honey I asked for, and were out of a lot of sides. Today 07-14-22 the drive thru system was deliberately turned off! Lady said because they only had 2 people. Forgot pepper again and was given drink no straw. Peach cobbler was a biscuit with peaches on top! Turned into restaurant at day time and I left at night! On top of that chicken was disgusting!
I’ve been to this place a hand full of times. And it never fails every time I go here something is wrong or delayed. I’ve showed up at 11 am (working hours stated on their door) and they were closed. The lady told me they are closed because they overslept. Today I go thru the drive-thru and a lady tells me to hold. I literally waited 10 mins for her to take my order. I get to work and open my box to no fries, biscuit all torn up on the bottom and tiny pieces of chicken!!! This place has the worst service and I do not recommend anyone going here. This will be the last time I ever go to this place.
Ordered a large fry as one of my sides for the 12pc family meal but got this instead 🤨 ?!?! Double check y’all’s bags before driving off.
Took the employee 10-15 to come to the window. The food tasted old as if it had been sitting out. We paid extra for jalapeños and they forgot them. We paid a total of 29.00 and threw it out. Tasted old
Bad service,I went last night and order a go grande order, spicy flavor, got home and open it just to find out was the original flavor, not the first time this happend,my bad was not to check I but was In a hurry.dont go to this location anymore
Drove to this churches from Pflugerville because we thought this was the best one but once we ordered and the chicken home chicken was dry when you bit into it chicken had been sitting up for hours no seasoning so I called the manager and he thought I was going to drive back and bring the chicken yall need to do better with the chicken.
Food security alert!!! I ordered 4 dishes online for my ice storm days… the moment I took the order I can feel a subtle acidic smell. The roasted fish taste earthy but luckily nothing happened. The fish fillet in spicy soup was the one got me diarrhea. It’s been 2days and diarrhea is still bothering me!!! I can still remember I found a piece of beef tripe in the soup, which is not supposed to be in the dish. I doubt that the soup might be a mixture of leftover from Maoxuewang and some spicy oil. Just an hour after my dinner, my diarrhea started…
The food was really disappointing and the atmosphere is pretty basic. I ordered the egg roll and Brisket Hot Pot. The egg roll was pretty basic although the sauce they pair it with is yummy. The hot pot was very bland with spice. It seemed like they relied on the spice for flavor. The brisket was mostly fatty pieces. Can’t say that I’d be back
