A great seafood spot with a relaxed, local feel. We sat at the bar and had excellent service , quick, friendly, and attentive. The seafood selection is varied and fresh, from oysters on the half shell to beautifully presented fish dishes. The happy hour deal on wine bottles is a nice touch, and the atmosphere feels authentically Austin rather than touristy. Highlights: the oysters were briny and fresh with classic accompaniments, and my main was spot on. Popular with locals, so it’s lively without feeling chaotic. Definitely worth a visit if you want fresh seafood, a casual but quality dining experience, and great service.
Quite busy on a friday night! Make sure you have reservations before you come during dinner hours! The smoked fish dip sample they provide is quite lovely. The kettle chip to go with it was a little heavy(oily). I think if it were slices of thin toasted baguette would be nice imo. We ordered ceviche and clam chowder for starters. The clam chowder was delicious, and I wish they were served with soup crackers or toast. The ceviche was good but nothing special. It was seasoned on the lighter side so tastes quite refreshing. Both of those dishes were in generous portions that we found ourselves out of space when we came to entree, so we shared a gulf shrimp pasta, and that was so good! Definitely star of the meal! The shrimp tastes great in the rich sauce of mushrooms and black garlic butter. I also really enjoyed the taste contrast of sun-dried tomatoes. Overall a pretty pleasant meal!
Awesome experience! Impressive attentive & friendly service. We sat at the bar and Carrie was on it all night. We had the Gulf oysters. I’m not a fan of the oyster, but I have to say it was a fun and tasty experience experimenting with the toppings. The flat tacos & street corn were delicious and a good size portion. We also had tostadas & the warm brownie for dessert was light & heavenly. Now the drinks 🍹... 😍... smooth, cold & delish!! To finish the wonderful experience was a WARM wet hand towel.
My friends and I came with a "rescue the night" mission after having such a terrible experience at Soto South Lamar, and Salt Traders did not disappoint! I was actually thankful that we had such a bad experience with our original dinner pick to have a try at this gem. The location was very spacious, and the tables were quite spaced out adhering with COVID-19 protocols. The staff members were all friendly, especially a huge shoutout to our waiter Thomas(!!!) for making the night so memorable! He paced our meal out according to our speed, so the food came out at the right moment and still hot - and we did not feel overwhelmed like at other places. I did feel like I was eating seafood in the Northeast coast with the decorations in place. Food-wise, we had a dozen of oysters (Gulf and another kind that I cannot recall the name), and they were delicious! The oysters were well cleaned and plum, and the sauces/topping went really well together! The crab cake was well-made with fresh, plum crabmeat. However, it was a little loose for my taste. But my mom and friends still enjoyed it! Clam chowder - delish!!! There was always at least a piece of clam in a spoonful, and the flavor, creaminess, everything was on-point! Seared Scallop - great. The scallops were done well, though a little bit under-seasoned. But the mushroom and veggies tasted amazing! Shrimp and Grits - Thomas' top pick, and I understood why! I loved the spicy kick to it, and the shrimp were HUGE! Definitely one of the best shrimp and grits that I have had. We also had a fried Snapper Collar, and that was extremely fresh as well, so much that we almost ordered the fried Fish & shrimp platter instead of the scallops! Tl;dr: Amazing food and experience, nothing to complain about! I'd definitely make another visit when I am back in town!
Cool, modern restaurant with a mostly fish and seafood menu. The Gulf oysters are really special and great value and the fried fish was so fresh and succulent. Plenty of drinks choices and great, friendly service. One of the best meals on our 3 week tour of Texas and firmly recommended.
Leona charmed the room with her style and attention. We wanted to adopt her. Each course outdid the previous one. Service and even the air itself had charm.
Casual seafood with awesome flavor! Brussels and hush puppies for the table were full of pizzazz. Lite options were not over dressed and the entree's were beautiful and delicious! Kind and polite staff took excellent care of us and the kids. They put goldfish down for them which helped with their hangry.
We had a wonderful meal and waitress Sam. Our first time here we will most definitely be returning with family. Everything was so flavorful. The pot stickers the sauces for the oysters. The vinaigrette dressing on my salad. I cant wait to try more items on the menu the few things we did have were amazingly delishious.
We ate lunch here. I had the fish tacos and my husband had the shrimp enchiladas. Both dishes were fresh and very good. My flour tortillas were cooked such that they had a cheese crust on them which made them quite unique and tasty. Mine came with a rice made with rice, spices, and cheeses. Since it was our first time in the restaurant, they gave us a free dessert (key lime pie). The pie was equally delicious. Service was very fast and the wait staff were very friendly. We will definitely return.
05/11/25 - have not reviewed in awhile but have BEEN here many, many times - always A+! Today was another terrific meal. The staff was SLAMMED for Mother's Day, yet they took their time, they smiled, they did their usual great job! We had a wonderful person by the name of Valerie - for the 3rd time. She is always outstanding! Had the special - Arctic Char - SOOOO good! Daughter had the brussel sprouts with Fish n Chips and husband had the Ciopinni. All were terrific dishes! We recommend this place HIGHLY!! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 11/11/2023 Whoa - we have been back many many times and I hadn't updated. But it's always consistently good service and great food. My husband enjoys the Ahi Tuna so much that he never gets anything else anymore! He likes a cool red center and they cook it perfectly that way! My go-to is the salmon, cooked medium rare. Juicy and delicious! Didn't get a photo, as we were hungry and it looked too good! Hailey is delightful, and this last time, we had Tom. He's terrific, and hilarious! (See if you think he looks like Drew on Property brothers! Lol And yes, HE offered for me to take his photo. I didn't ask because I didn't want to creep him out. What a great sport!). . We will ask to be seated in his area again next time. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 UPDATE: 10/22/2022 Another delicious dinner, well served. Had the special "Tilefish Risotto" - oh.my.goodness!!! It was cooked perfectly and tasted fabulous! The black garlic was so buttery and delicious! (I want it again now! Lol) Our service was excellent, as usual. We so appreciate the good food and consistently good service! We will be back! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 (Approx Feb 2022) SO good. We got curbside pickup and when we got home the care was FULL of yummy aroma! The food did not disappoint! As usual, the customer service was impecible! (Look forward to the day we can dine-in again!). I had fish and chips - the white fish was cooked beautifully. Husband had the muscles and enjoyed them, as usual. We will be back!
Great cocktails, freshest oysters and juiciest, buttery hot-off-the-grill steak. The whole meal was memorable. It was Happy Hour, busy but the service staff was exceptional. Stop in for delicious, shareable and unique apps for HH at discounted prices. Highly recommend for steaks OR seafood. 5*’s all around.
Was in the area visiting from out of state and had an absolutely unforgettable experience here. Made reservations for dinner ahead of time. We were running a little late and they were more than accommodating throughout our entire visit. The service was exceptional and the food was beyond amazing. Even got a free dessert for my birthday definitely made it that much more special! If I’m ever in the area again without a doubt I’ll stop in again.
An outstanding seafood experience. East coast oysters a bit expensive at $3.50 each but if you miss home (RI for me) then you just have to splurge. Chowder french fries sounds weird but crazy good. Tuna poke served on lettuce falls apart, but flavors superb. Raw scallop on half shell was uniquely delicious, like nothing I’ve tasted. Mains were yellowfin tuna with fried rice cake, which could have been a more generous & thicker cut but still perfectly cooked & delicious. Shrimp & grits were spicy & a bit soupy but still delicious broth. Scallops came on tasty cauliflower- only 3 so again a bit skimpy but perfectly cooked & presented. Chef knows his stuff. Will be back.
Decided to give this place a try. It was close enough for us to make it to downtown Austin to see the bats. Definitely would recommend. Oyster selection is on point, and they're shucked on site when ordered. I had the Gulf Oysters and the Seared Scallops. Flavor was excellent. My girlfriend had the Wild Gulf Shrim Pasta and Clam Chowder, both of which she enjoyed. Its worth visiting and the prices are well worth the food.
Kaela was the perfect server when we brought family with multiple food allergies. While we have brought them multiple times and the food is always delicious. However, going through the list of 4 allergies for an entree, a side dish, etc. is often time consuming. Kaela remembered from the first mentioning, guided us to and away from items listing the ingredients of EVERYTHING we asked about and keeping us at ease with her knowledge and professionalism. Plus she had a fantastic personality. Navigating allergies is sometimes tricky when eating g out. Kaela really knew the menu and helped the process move smoothly and with delicious options! We are very appreciative!
SO SO DELICIOUS!! Finally got to go to this place to celebrate my anniversary. It was our first time out in a public restaurant since quarantining during this pandemic and man what a treat!!! Service was awesome, our waiter was super knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. The atmosphere was laid back but still felt upscale; a grrat blend for a date, friend meet up, as well as family friendly. Just enough sound level to feel comfortable bringing your kiddos to. And of course with Covid, the space between tables made us feel safe distanced from others. The food..... THE FOOD!!! Started with raw oysters from the east coast and tried a raw scallop- which I HIGHLY RECOMMEND! The tuna tartar I could have had two of because it was that amazing, the clam chowder was super hearty with the addition of leeks and bacon. Originally being from the northwest, we are pretty picky about chowder and this has been one of the best I've had! We shared the fish and chips to finish off and it did not disappoint either. Love also that they source local and make food in house (bread, all desserts, etc!). Drink list is big with tons of options. The only thing, and can't knock a star off because everything was so great, is that they didn't have much options for after dinner drink. There were so many other good things on the menu and can't wait to go back and try more!! What an experience!!
I had an exceptional dining experience at Salt Traders! From the moment we walked in, Larry, our server, made us feel welcome and valued. His extensive knowledge of the menu truly enhanced our meal; he guided us through each dish with expertise, ensuring we made the perfect selections. Not only was Larry knowledgeable, but he also added a delightful touch of humor to our dining experience, making us feel right at home. The food was exquisite, perfectly prepared and presented with care. The ambiance was inviting and cozy, creating the ideal atmosphere for a memorable meal. I highly recommend Salt Traders to anyone seeking top-notch cuisine and impeccable service. Larry truly made our visit unforgettable, and we can't wait to return. Five stars all around!
Loved my visit to Salt Traders Zilker last night! The dollar-off oysters were fantastic, and the appetizers we tried were excellent. Great food, great experience, and the service was top-notch. A perfect spot for happy hour or a casual dinner. Highly recommend!
Posting this review late but I had to make sure it gets posted. Salt Traders has been a favorite for a few years now, and they really hit the spot when I most recently visited with my other half. We ordered a wide variety off the menu, ceviche, hushpuppies, Peruvian scallops half shell, lobster roll, scallops, coconut dessert and a handful more. Everything was perfect and the Peruvian scallops were a major highlight of the evening. We did have a hiccup during our dining time, management came out and apologized when there was no need and the amount of actual sincerity is something to be applauded for. We had no issue with the hiccup, but we knew Salt Traders takes pride in what they do and anything less than perfect is unacceptable. Wonderful atmosphere, management, serving, food, and time. Thank you for helping create a long lasting memory for my partner and I. Keep doing what you’re doing!
I had such an amazing experience here, full credit goes to our waitress Landry! Her passion for food was great to see and all of her recommendations were spot on. From the fresh raw scallops, the perfectly seasoned bream, savory salmon to the mouth watering brownie dessert, (even took home a key lime pie) it was a delicious feast. I am looking forward to eating here again and another great experience overall!
Love, love, love! Everything all around was five stars. The food. The staff—everyone. The ambience. The food. We had a complimentary aperitif — two fried potato chips with a spoonful of smoked fish dip was an unexpected delightful start. The concept of the menu was written by people who really enjoy seafood. For appetizers we had ceviche, fried oysters and clam “chowda”. Everything was beautifully prepared. We could taste all the flavors. Nothing was heavy or cooked to death. For our main course, we had the fried fish and shrimp platter, as well as shrimp enchiladas with a corn salad…(basically elote without mayonnaise). Even though it was a fried dish, everything tasted really fresh. We loved the sauce in the enchiladas—almost like a molé. No salt or pepper needed for anything. Everything seasoned perfectly. Dessert—key lime pie and salted caramel pudding with heavy whipped cream. Both were to die for. We’d like a little more pie to meringue ratio. What a perfect touch with warm handwipes to finish our experience. The drink specials sounded amazing—especially the grapefruit frozen margarita. The drinks coming out looked great. And we were sitting right by the bar and saw the bartender working his butt off. No premixed drinks here. The only drawback was they had tile fish there, displayed, but saving it for the next day special. Also, there was a dog inside. We love animals, just not at the table where humans eat. As far as the staff, our waiter, Isiah, went above and beyond. He was knowledgeable about all things of the restaurant, personable and detail-oriented. We felt as if we were his only customers. And kuddos to all staff. Not one person was standing around from managers to bussers and everyone in between. Finally, a stop at the loo, we realized the owner is also the owner of Jack Allens Kitchen. No wonder it is was spectacular.
First time in this restaurant. We came in before noon and the place was nearly full. We sit at the bar and recieved an excellent service there. The beers and coctails were very good as well as the food including Seafood gumbo, Clam Chowder, the blackened fish tacos and the shrimp and lobster roll.
This used to be the old Texas Land and Cattle location. The coastal remodel is beautiful! Great atmosphere and knowledgeable and friendly staff. Side note: We had a reservation and was able to park and get seated pretty easily. Be mindful of seasonal events since the location is right near the Zilker Park exit off Mopac. We dined during trail of lights and was met with a little traffic jam as we were exiting, so plan ahead if you have somewhere to be after dinner. We had the Crudo and Nigiri as well as the raw oysters based on staff suggestions from the Raw Bar menu. Everything was excellent. The wedge salad and seared scallops were soooo delicious! We finished with the Key Lime Pie which was light and perfect! We will definitely be back.
We usually go to the RR location but decided to get jazzy and go south of the river. This location feels a lot bigger and laid out well. Their food is always consistently delicious! I always have the simple fish (catch off the day), the gulf oysters and frozen grapefruit margs!
I am not a huge seafood person myself, but the wife was craving it. Salt Traders was a pleasant surprise. All the seafood tasted fresh and nicely seasoned. From left to right Shrimp Cocktail, Clam Chowder, 3 Eat and Peel Shrimp, a Lobster/Shrimp Roll, and lastly Salted Carmel Pudding. We were not disappointed by any of the dishes and they even gave us some complimentary fish dip with a few chips when we sat at the bar.
Great experience. Had a table in the middle of the room and wasnt bothered at all because the vibe was so nice. Server was ON TOP of everything and the food was amazing. I defo recommend the tuna tartar.
The food here was really good. We got the Seafood Tower and I also got their Fish and Chips. The atmosphere was very welcoming and nostalgic of like a harbor restaurant. I do love the fact that their seafood isn't frozen (at least to my knowledge) and it's served fresh. Definitely can tell by the texture of the food. I'd definitely recommend anyone that wants fresh seafood to come here and give it a try! Also the lemonade is really good!
Great atmosphere and service. I had the shrimp bowl, and it was delicious! I only wish they had included a little more shrimp. The bacon mac with crab is outstanding, and the warm brownie with caramel sauce was right up at the top of my list for tasty deserts. I also recommend the crab cake appetizer. The shrimp and lobster roll is filling. All are great options for a delicious meal!
The food was delicious, very clean tasting. We had multiple appetizers and entrees and everyone enjoyed their meal. The desserts were all very tasty and the service was excellent. We will definitely be back. 12/9/22 Tried the shrimp carbonara with squid ink pasta and it was delicious. Flag we're came back.
Reservations were easy to make on the website and they had a table ready for us when we showed up 10 minutes early. We sat in the back of the restaurant, but there was a very loud, rowdy table seated nearby so we ended up moving tables to a quieter location. The staff was very gracious about us moving and completely understood why we wanted to move. The server was excellent in her descriptions of the specials and helped us select our oysters based on what style we liked. The food was absolutely delicious!
update November 2024 Another good meal from the standout Salt Coast Traders at Zilker Park. Service was crisp and attentive, thanks Bing! We started with one dozen gulf oysters, shucked well, served ice cold, delicious. Entrees included shrimp and grits, fried fish and shrimp platter, and a bowl of cioppino. All were served piping hot and very well done! A couple of dark and stormys were quite tasty! No room for dessert this visit, dinner was good and plenty! Highly recommend the Zilker Park location of Salt Coast Traders! Winter 2024 We had a delicious dinner with family last week at Salt Traders. The cocktails were good, and the wine list, though short, has a very nice selection of varietals. For appetizers, we tried the oysters on the half shell and the ceviche. Both were excellent! Oysters were super fresh, and the dozen included three different types of oysters. The ceviche was made with salmon, and a lot of it ... very good indeed! We all tasted all of the entrées ordered, which included shrimp and grits, wood-fired salmon (with a side of bacon mac & cheese), fried fish and shrimp platter, fish and chips, and cioppino. We all agreed every dish was on point, seasoned perfectly, and served hot. Special mention on the cioppino… I make a great cioppino, Salt Traders' was a close second! We decided to hang around for dessert, and we tried the iced coconut mousse and the Keylime pie. Both were excellent! Shout out to our waiter Tom C, great service, attentive but not intrusive, and he displayed a great sense of humor as one of our party knocked her water glass over a couple of times! LOL It was a wonderful experience, we’ll be back! Update 11-17-2023 Another awesome meal... Another amazing meal at Salt Traders this week! From start to finish, everything was superb... for beginners, Aubry, our waiter, did a fantastic job, attentive but not intrusive. The best waiter we've had in quite a while! Thank you Aubry! For starters, we headed straight into the sea: oysters and ceviche. Both were outstanding... the oysters were big, plump Gulf oysters, served icy cold with all the trimmings, saltines and hot sauce on the side. To die for! The ceviche was also very good, perfect citrus-cooked fish, mango, and a little heat, served with lime wedges. Delicious! Entrees included shrimp and grits, fish and chips and cioppino. The grits were perfect, shrimp grilled to a "T" with a nice Cajun sauce included. The fish and chips were likewise off the charts, perfectly seasoned fish, light batter, fried to perfection. Very tasty, seasoned fries as well, also served piping hot! The star of the evening, however, was the cioppino. I've tried cioppino all over, and I make a pretty darn good one too (recipe from Phil's Fish Market in CA). Salt Trader's cioppino was heaven in a bowl. Not only was the broth divine, the amount of top-quality seafood in the bowl was amazing! If you're a fan of cioppino, you have to try this one. If you're not a fan of cioppino, you should still try it! LOL Finally, we topped the evening off with a slice of key lime pie... wonderfully delicious and finished in minutes. So good, in fact, we ordered another slice to go! One of the things we love about Salt Traders is how the waitstaff works like a team. Your waiter/waitress doesn't bring out your food, the restaurant has (what appears to be) staff dedicated to delivering food to the tables, which guarantees the temps on all the dishes are great, hot or cold. Love that! We'll definitely be back!
Excellent! We will be adding thos restaurant into the rotation. We did brunch today, the drinks are perfect and can't beat the $1 gulf oysters.
Had an amazing dinner with my girlfriend here. Our server, Aubrey, was phenomenal and took great care of us as we enjoyed our food and time together. The happy hour deals on Monday are very nice and we also took advantage of their $1 gulf bay oysters. Super accommodating with gluten allergies and had good options in all categories of the menu for me. I got the grilled fish tacos and she got the fried fish and shrimp. Overall a 10/10 experience that we will be doing again!
First time here and it did not disappoint. My wife and I came for our anniversary. Atmosphere is nice and clean. Our waitress Heather or Amber was the best. She is very knowledgeable of the menu, makes great recommendations. I also loved how honest she is. We started with the Grapefruit frozen margarita with added Grand Marnier. Appetizer we ordered Jalapeño Hush Puppies, Fried Oysters, and Grilled Oysters. We were not a fan of the Fried Oysters but the other two, OH MY GOSH. Those are a must try! For entrees I ordered a burger, I’m not a seafood fan at all. I did enjoy my first oyster, not too bad. Still not a fan of seafood. My wife ordered fish tacos, she said they were the best and cooked perfectly. We finished with the crème brûlée for dessert. That was amazing as well. Had a great experience here and would recommend this place to anyone!
I've been to Salt Trader's several times now and have never been disappointed. On this visit, I started with 3 oysters. They were prepped right and came with a tasty mignonette sauce. I love that you can order 1 piece at a time instead of by the half dozen. For my meal, I got the Tuna Tartare Tower and Crispy Brussels Sprouts. The tartare was really great as it had lots of Asian flavors with it. The sprouts were nice and crunchy with a spicy mayo kind of sauce. I thought they went very well together. The real start of this meal was the Salted Caramel Pudding (maybe not a pudding but similar). I truly could have eaten several of these in one sitting. The desserts at Salt Traders really are something special. Make sure to save room!
Salt Traders Coastal Cooking is an incredible restaurant for a delightful dinner. The place has a charming and adorable ambiance, and the service there is truly attentive and exceptional. To start our meal, we ordered Ceviche and Oysters as appetizers. The seafood was fresh and bursting with flavor. I must say, the Ceviche was a highlight with its well-seasoned and abundant fish. For our main course, we opted for the Shrimp & Lobster Roll, which turned out to be equally delicious. The roll was crispy, and it was generously filled with succulent lobster and shrimp. Alongside the roll, they served kettle chips that perfectly complemented the dish. I highly recommend this restaurant as it promises a wonderful dining experience with its fresh seafood.
Visiting the Austin area and my son suggested we go here. It did not disappoint! The service was excellent. I’m a pescatarian and this place had all the options so I was not limited to only tacos. My son had the Cioppino and Ceasar salad and it was very tasty and the salad had fresh anchovies. My niece had the fish tacos she said it was sooo good! My sister in law had the fish and chips and it was delicious. The vinegar sauce that compliments it gave it the final touch. I had the birria fish tacos and it was very delicious. I was skeptical but they came through. It was very tasty and the cilantro rice and pickled onions on the side also complimented the tacos. All in all, this was a really good restaurant if you want seafood.
Fantastic experience. Delicious and quality seafood. Service was impeccable. We were told the wait was 30-45mins and we were seated in under 15. The staff was super friendly and attentive. Our waitress was the nicest lady and she had some Great recommendations for us. We had a mix of oysters 🦪, Appetizers, fish dinner plates and dessert. My sister and I thought it is a great place to take family when in town. It was a hit with our mom.
The staff were attentive, friendly, and helpful in explaining the menu. We ordered the different oysters which were all incredible and it was during happy hour which was really nice. We also had the hush puppies along with the Crispy Shrimp Bowl and Crab Grilled Cheese. Everything was fresh and had amazing flavor. Since we were celebrating an occasion, we also ordered champagne which was a great deal and had a nice variety of juices to mix with it. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.
First time to dine here. Parking lot is big. I was there for a retirement party and we had a big party about 40 people. They were able to accommodate us and even paid separate checks. Ordering took a little long because there were alot of people. But other server came to check and asked if everyone ordered and all the foods were out. It wad a nice outing. We had our little corner to ourselves.
Great restaurant! $1 oysters is quite crazy and those were actually great. Lobster/shrimp roll was very tasty, same for tuna. Nigiri/sushi was not good though. All else, great! Will come back
This is consistently my favorite culinary experience in Austin. There’s not a bad item on the menu. This was my 4th visit and they surprise me every time. (Sarah) Jackson was phenomenal with her recommendations for this lunch. I can’t say enough how much I love this place. I’ve brought clients here, my fiancée, everyone I can and it’s good no matter how many people you come with. I know Terry Black’s is around the corner, but come here. There’s good barbecue everywhere, Salt Traders is only here. Thank y’all again.
First time dining at Salt Traders. Food was good, especially the nigiri and crudo. The octopus (my first time trying) was perhaps not my cup of tea but it was cooked perfectly. Excellent experience, primarily due to the excellent service. Shout out to Vanessa!!! She was in the weeds with a couple of birthday parties and she was still so patient and attentive and knew EVERYTHING about the menu! Intend to return for happy hour.
As soon as you walk in the atmosphere is fantastic a little bit of charm, but not overly cluttered and the music is not blaring just right. The service is phenomenal and friendly. Miranda is absolutely the best! And the food oh my goodness the food I’m going to have dreams about the shrimp and grits, and the fried oysters were fantastic , why are you still reading this… go !
While visiting the area, we decided to dine at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking, and it exceeded every expectation. From the moment we arrived, the experience was top-notch. Our waitress was phenomenal, warm, attentive, and truly on point the entire time. She made sure we never needed a thing without being overbearing, which is how great service has always been done. Now let’s talk about the food, simply incredible. They were offering $1 oysters during happy hour, and let me tell you, I happily ate oysters until happy hour was over. They were unbelievably fresh and absolutely delicious. Every dish we tried was just as impressive, fresh, flavorful, and clearly prepared with care. I left beyond satisfied and already looking forward to my next visit. Salt Traders is a must-try, and I will definitely be returning the next time I’m in town. Highly recommend.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Five Stars – Exceptional Service & Incredible Food The highlight of our entire evening at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking was our waitress, Jackson J, who was truly a star. From the moment we were seated, she was warm, polished, and incredibly attentive. She went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and well taken care of, checking in at just the right moments without ever being intrusive. Her professionalism, kindness, and genuine charm elevated our entire dining experience and made the night feel special. Service like hers is exactly what you hope for when dining at a nice restaurant. The food was outstanding from start to finish. Every dish we ordered was delicious and cooked perfectly. The fish and chips and the fried fish and shrimp platter were fresh, flavorful, and crispy, and the sides were just as good. The dessert was absolutely delicious and the perfect way to end the meal - rich, satisfying, and clearly made with care. My wife’s wine was smooth and superb, rounding out the experience beautifully and pairing perfectly with the meal. Thanks to the exceptional service and amazing food, this was a memorable evening. Big shout-out to Jackson for delivering true five-star service. We highly recommend Salt Traders Coastal Cooking and will absolutely be returning.
Delicious food with great atmosphere and service to match. I love my shrimp and the BBQ shrimp appetizer was amazing, with the Nashville Spicy Po'Boy for my entrée I left happy and stuffed. They also gave me a sample of a salmon dip with cappers that was also delicious. Valerie was amazing when it came to recommendations, service, and personality. Would definitely return again when I'm back in Austin.
Went in today with my boyfriend expecting nothing really, we just looked up oysters in the map and this was the first option that popped up and oh boy!. We are simply fascinated. Service: Our server Meghan was very warm, welcoming, helpful and friendly, she definitely added up to the experience, her expertise and professionalism are top notch. Now the food: We just wanted some oysters, we had never been here before, we were not that hungry, we just wanted a little treat, and Meghan told us that we were in perfect timing for happy hour so we’d be getting $1 off in all the oysters, even better!. They had a good variety of oysters, we ordered 2 of each to try them all out, there was only one of them that we didn’t like not because it was bad but it just didn’t taste like anything really, it’s the one called Little Prince if that helps. Now we were so delighted and greatly surprised with the other ones that we ordered 12 more, each!. We ended up eating 36 oysters! And we were about to order more just because they were that good but we were too full already!. My personal preference was the Gulf ones and Summertime and my boyfriend’s were the Conway ones (Still big shout out St Simon I think, 100/10) (I can’t remember the name of the other one lol but if was really good too!). The kettle chips were also a hit, they felt and taste fresh, like genuinely made in house. For dessert we tried the coconut pineapple mousse whatever it’s called, I liked it but I wouldn’t go crazy for it, my boyfriend loooved it so I’d say it’s just a matter of preferences, but great option for those who don’t like extremely sweet desserts. Issues: We didn’t have a single issue with our food at all or the service, everything was genuinely perfect. Check: Our check was $141 and some change for the 36 oysters, one beer, one mocktail, the kettle chips and the dessert. A little extra magic: They ask you for allergies as soon as you sit down, the pear mocktail is DELICIOUS and they have a little wall of spicy sauces you can pick from but their house one is honestly delicious! Overall: Definitely recommend!, I’d love to come back here every time. (Photo was taken halfway through our dozens, I apologize, we were too excited to take pictures hehe)
This is a place I always forget to include in my restaurant choices when I'm thinking about where we want to eat. I shouldn't, this place is great! And the staff will do anything to make you happy! The were amazing! Fish and chips were fresh! Great place to sit at the bar and watch a game! Thank Taylor for the great service ‼️
Decided to try this place out. And it was well worth it. We came on a Monday and got sat down immediately wasn’t too busy for dinner. Highly recommend the Mac & cheese with lobster and the New Orleans BBQ shrimp! So delicious. I ended up getting the lobster roll and it was amazing. Would definitely recommend that as a main.
Food All the food that I had was great. The rum drink will creep up on you, but it is very smooth and delicious. Service Great service. After our orders were provided to the server, they gradually brought out my ceviche, salad, mussels, & lobster/shrimp papparadelle pasta. I'm not an oyster eating person, but even the cooked ones looked very tempting to try. Atmosphere I like where we were seated. It was a little more private and away from the main area. Very relaxing atmosphere. We went with a big group, but I can see how this can be a Date night/anniversary celebration place. Nice work everyone. 👏
Lunch time is super packed! We chose to sit at bar to avoid waiting it was perfect choice! Tried an IPA, some calamari and the lobster and shrimp roll and everything was so good! Place was full at 1203 pm so you know it has to be good! The bartender she was amazing never caught her name but go check the place out prices very reasonable! They have gumbo!
During our recent family dinner, we were pleasantly surprised by the ambiance of the restaurant. The establishment exuded a sophisticated and inviting atmosphere, conducive to engaging in meaningful conversations. The decor struck a harmonious blend of modern elegance and classic charm. The round booth tables were designed to provide both privacy and comfort, ensuring an intimate dining experience. The service was exceptional, characterized by its friendliness and professionalism. Notably, the restaurant offered an extensive menu, catering to a wide range of culinary preferences. However, we had a slight reservation about the fish dish we ordered. While the presentation was appealing, we found that the fish was excessively breaded and oily. The texture was inconsistent, with small pieces of genuine fish interspersed throughout. The family thoroughly enjoyed their seafood gumbo and tuna steak orders. We intend to revisit the establishment to explore other culinary offerings from their menu.
We had a lovely dinner and experience for our first time here. They did a beautiful job designing the inside seating area. It’s cozy and I really love the art on the walls. The food was so good! We started with the bbq shrimp, which came with the most scrumptious sourdough bread and some yummy broth. For my main dish, I ordered fish and chips (slaw instead of fries) and hubby had the catch of the day, swordfish. We also ordered a side of the Mac-n-cheese. Our server was kind, attentive and knowledgeable of the menu.

Came here with a big group and they were really accommodating for how late in the evening we came. The hit at the table was the clam chowder fries and clam chowder. I thought the clam chowder fries were a bit underwhelming, it felt as if it was lacking in flavor. The table loved them so give them a shot! I had the grilled fish and veggies and liked it a lot..flavors were just right. My husband got the fish sandwich that he devoured. I also recommend their bloody Mary's!
The appetizers we had were great. We had several appetizers with our large group of eight. We had shrimp, pot stickers, guacamole, and a crab cake. The entrees we had were unfortunately under seasoned and a little pricey for the portions. However these were well prepared such that the textures were perfect and not over or under cooked. The service was great even with such a large group.
Creative atmosphere with fantastic staff who work hard to make your dining experience enjoyable. The Salty Tom was a disappointment; a gin rosemary grapefruit cocktail but it was quickly replaced with a very good IPA. I had the Chiopino which was quite tasty but I would expect at least one or two scallops in a big bow of seafood. The oysters were top notch, raw and baked. I’m told the salmon was phenomenal as were the fried oyster lettuce wraps.
Plenty of parking and lots of room inside! Has the typical seafood vibe you’d expect. The food was good. I’d suggest the ceviche tostada and the hush puppies. The nigiri was alright, but you couldn’t taste the fish because they put a sauce on it. A few of the oysters had some prominent shell bits. Could be a fluke, as the rest were very tasty, but it was a little off putting. Drinks were a little expensive, but were tasty.
November 2024 Had lunch at Salt Traders Coastal Cooking where it was my first time here. The place was busy and met my party in the back room. It’s basically a seafood restaurant where first had to try a cup of Clam Chowda. The chowder had great flavor and very delicious. I then ordered the Fish Sandwich with the fish blackened. The fish sandwich was very tasteful. I enjoyed very much brioche bun had that nice buttery flavor. The restaurant had a great coastal atmosphere centered around a bar. The staff was very friendly and cheerful.
Atmosphere: Upscale coastal casual with large central bar Service: Excellent, very attentive. Food arrived quickly. Food: We wanted to love it do we ordered a variety. The housemade sourdough bread was delicious, chewy with golden crusty edges. Clam chowder was also a standout with fresh clams and plenty of bacon, without being too heavy. Potstickers were okay, a bit greasy and soft. Lobster roll was unremarkable, kind of bland, but the roll was nice - chips were a nice accompaniment. The warm brownie topped with toffee ice cream and butterscotch sauce was the best part.
I've dined a Salt Traders at least a half-dozen times (which in and of itself says something). Good, fresh seafood; well-prepared; nicely plated. Menu has a wide variety of interesting dishes. Fresh oysters are great. Service, however, is variable. Sometimes appropriately attentive; other times you want to stand up and wave your napkin until your server comes over. Clean with understated coastal decor. Great place to go, but I'd avoid busy times.
The food and drinks offered here are very well composed. Service was excellent and Everything we had was delicious. The ceviche is fantastic. The only downside was a disorganized host stand. We checked in around 6:15 for a 6:30 reservation for 2 and I had to ask around 6:50 how much longer we’d have to wait. We were not seated until 7pm.
Food was nice and portion sizes were generous. The waiter was very friendly and kept checking in on us now and then. The lemonade was especially tasty despite being such a simple drink. The portion sizes were all pretty good. If you're a tourist like me and dependent on Uber or Lyft, remember that it's really hard to get a vehicle to pick you up from here. Be prepared to wait a long time or walk long distances. Not sure why this is the case but it happened twice over a two week period for us.
Salt Traders, honestly, just never disappoints! The food is excellent, the team is personable and welcoming, and the drink/cocktail selection is varied and well executed. We come many many Mondays to take advantage of some of their all day HH options like $1 off oysters and $4 off bottles of wine. You can almost never go wrong with trying one of their specials or catches of the day.
Got the shrimp and fish plate. Fish was fresh. Shrimp not so much. One shrimp was just on the edge of bad. Slaw was more a garnish rather than a side.Other sides were great. Service was friendly, helpful and menu knowledgeable.
Went for my wife birthday just the two of us. Was Sat in a booth window the appetizer were great !! They are famous for there Oysters and they are on point they have a variety. Which we had 2 platter !! Wedge blue cheese salad great ! The fish chips was ok fries were not up to par. Overall I would come back !! Are waitress was on point Thanks
Same location as what used to be TLC. Was looking forward to seafood offerings from Jack Allen. Overall, it was decent but not quite up to the mark of a Jack Allen. The portion sizes were smallish. The lane snapper was really good, tasty and fresh. The key lime pie was sublime. The grilled oysters were alright, we've had much better ones in NOLA.
First time at Salt Trader's. I attended a meeting and the room was spacious and quiet for all to hear the speaker. Service was very good as both waiter and waitress worked the entire room. The food was very good. NOTE: I recommend staying away from the oysters in a shell. Although several attendees ate the oysters (I don'tknow if they were affected), I got very sick after consuming # 2 of them. The following 6+ hours were not pretty for me! I do recommend this restaurant, just not the oysters in a shell.
They offer a delicious assortment of fresh oysters. We also tried the calamari and guacamole appetizers. The calamari was tasty and lightly breaded. The guacamole was fresh and thick. The gumbo was flavorful but not spicy (I added a few dashes of Tabasco), and included a nice portion of shrimp. The service was a little slow, the waitress disappeared a few times when we needed her. But Mondays include Happy Hour pricing on drinks and featured apps and dishes throughout the evening, which was a great bonus! They have an extensive selection of drinks on offer.
We tried multiple dishes, everything was fresh. - Oysters: we tried all of their east coast selection and it was very fresh - Crispy Calamari: the breading was delicious, tasted like tempura. - Tuna tartare stack: it was OK, could’ve used more flavor. The avocado was sitting at the bottom and not mixed with the dish - Steamed muscles: it was very good
We went for dinner because I love seafood, and the fact that oysters were on happy hour made it even better! The vibe was a nice mix of casual and business, making it a great spot to relax and enjoy a good meal. There was no wait when we arrived before 6 PM, which was a nice bonus. Our waiter was incredibly attentive and friendly, making the experience even better. The oysters were so good that we had to order a second round! The prices were reasonable, and the food was absolutely delicious. Overall, a great spot for seafood lovers—I’d definitely go back!

Love the food the fish and chips are awesome service is great. The only I didn't like is the servers stand over you with little machine for payment. I think that is rude
Continues to impress. Great quality food and service. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Setting continues to be inviting. Highly recommend it for anyone who likes seafood.

Delicious! Slightly overpriced for what you receive. The atmosphere is wonderful, comfortable, and easy to hear in.

Honestly for the money not really blown away. Oysters were good but the entrée wasn’t anything special. I must say the crab cake is the best in town and that fennel slaw was tasty as well as the succotash. I really enjoyed that more then anything. If your super hungry I would def get a noodle dish.
🏳️🌈🏳️⚧️ The staff immediately made us feel super welcome and very personally attended. We were given seats immediately and they did not suck entirely. They are using the high density 3 4 3 diamond table pattern for their general seating so your left and right will have some one near to them at another table but no one has their back to the other table outside of a booth. The food worth eating is all above 17 dollar plates. Thats fine I was treating my favorite woman to a night of stress free dining she could have what ever she wanted. She was very pleased with the salad she ordered. When I looked at the build of her salad was immediately reminded of the Ahi Enlightened salad from BJ's. Like, someone copied their homework. The dressing was definitely sourced from Sysco, or at least tasted like the Sysco dressing so 🤷 I dunno. The fish was perfectly fine, well suited to the purpose of the meals. She was eating cautiously cuz she is shy. Expect heat on simple dishes I enjoyed the balance. The Grilled tuna over soba noodles was quite good. Table touches were fast and pertinent, never a bother. The beer i was given was perfect for the meal and water tasted clean and refreshing. Monday is a busy night, they have insane happy hours so be sure to go on a tuesday if you or your partners are easily overwhelmed on crowds. Music wasnt loud, there was enough space and absorbent wall decoration to make the reverb of others enjoying their meals less painful on my sensitive ears, even with high density seating section. We were dressed in essentially fancy lingerie and gothy black dresses and every thing felt comfortable. Avoid the key lime pie it is 80 percent whipped cream and 20 percent crém brule style pastry. Just order the crem brule. It will hit better.
Meh. Fish sandwich was more bread than fish. Same with the lobster/shrimp roll. Grilled oysters were good. Beer was cold. $100 after tax and tip for 2 seafood sandwiches, 6 grilled gulf oysters, and two beers + tax & tip. Not good value. Won't be back.
Lots of parking available around the restaurant. Easily accessible road. Polite and helpful staff (requested for swapping from a table to a booth and they quickly ushered us to one). Server was well spoken and delightful, helpful with food pairings and wine. Good ambiance including the a bar area. Lots of choices for seafood lovers. They did have a chicken sandwich option too. Appetizers were great, not too fond of the kettle chips with fish dip though. Hush puppies were a bit overdone on the outside but still had amazing taste on the inside. Entrées were decent. Tartar sauce was good. Fries weren’t the best which came with fish and chips so might get a different entree next time but overall a good experience. Definitely worth a try!
I have been to salt trader’s many times. The service at the bar was good and atmosphere always on point. However, I was pretty disappointed with the Cobia schnitzel pasta dish. The piece of fish was very thin, the sauce too thick yet didn’t stick, very few mushrooms and the plate was light on the pasta. This was not a $34 plate. Overall the food was under seasoned and bland.

I was particularly excited to dine here as they offered a dish I struggle to find, grilled tuna steak. Upon entering the restaurant and asking the hostess for some information so I can be certain I found what I was looking for, she had said they don't serve it at all. After pointing it out on the menu, she was still clueless to what the dish even was and had a very puzzled look. Hosts/Hostesses need to know the menu for MANY reasons, this being a situation that clearly demonstrates how customers may not come or stay if they can't give better information on things served in the place they work! The menu says GRILLED TUNA STEAK which gave me the impression it was grilled and seasoned with typical blackened seasoning or something more "American" as many of the menu items have beautiful descriptions of dishes prepared. What I got was a tuna steak, grilled, but drenched in strange Asian style seasoning like a grilled version of tuna tartare and it just doesn't work for a grilled steak! The fried rice was mediocre, but another thing that was not complimentary to the expectation and certainly not enough crab to be charging almost $40 for the plate. Definitely needs a new style for that dish, get rid of the rice as a side, and just season and grill the tuna with a side of asparagus or sauteed spinach (something else) so people can appreciate the fish rather than make it taste so cheap and distasteful, then leave feeling ripped off! The hush puppies were raw and take far too long to come out. Won't be going back, and wish I hadn't wasted my time or money at this place.
Check your receipts! They charged more than the menu was showing. Either they need to update the menu or they are just flat making their prices changes to you after couple of drinks . Not a big fan…

We had reservations for my husband’s birthday. We love seafood and had never been to this particular establishment before, and being new to the Austin area, we were very excited. Unfortunately, we will not be back. I am not sure if our server was having a bad night, or if he just didn’t like what he saw when he got to our table, but he was curt and bordered on rude. The service was not attentive and everyone in our party noticed it and his attitude. He disappeared for a large period of time, and my son got his drink well after his meal was consumed. Since our server was nowhere to be found, we asked another bidder to snap a picture of us with my camera. She told us to wait a moment, and went to get another server who then also told us to wait a moment, and never came back to the table. Thus we got no picture. He tried to turn on a little charm as the night came to a close, but I am sure that had everything to do with realizing that we had to tip him. By then, the night was ruined. Some of the food was excellent, and some was bland and under salted (ironic given the name). I tipped the waiter appropriately even though he didn’t deserve it, because I used to work in food service and know they aren’t paid the best and most of them (not this guy) have to work hard for it. That was 238.00 that I would have taken somewhere else had I known how we were going to be treated. I sincerely hope that it wasn’t racism, just shitty service all around. First and last time.
This used to be mine and my husband’s go-to spot, but unfortunately we won’t be returning. We ordered the smoked fish dip, and on my second bite I found a plastic piece, the kind that attaches price tags to clothing, in my mouth. I understand that mistakes happen. What was more disappointing was the response. The kitchen manager came out and questioned me about what it was, which felt uncomfortable. I wasn’t sure why I was being asked to identify something that ended up in my food from her kitchen, and the awkward interaction left us feeling blamed for it happening in the first place. I hope they take extra care to ensure this doesn’t happen to someone else, but it won’t be us again.
