We went Sunday after ACL and it was packed but the service (shoutout to my girl Brianna!!!) and food was amazing. Great tacos for the price! Highly recommend giving this place a shot ! I ordered from the veg and bf got the chicken tacos. Was so good!!!

Benjamin and his crew were amazing!! I got my fav chicken paneer taco, a KICK ASS marg and a velvet cake!! 1000/10 would recommend velvet taco over any other place in downtown!

I got a chicken and waffle taco because i thought a waffle tortilla was pretty unique and i liked it a lot. Definitely even better with the hot salsa. Their sangrita swirl was great too, very strong. I think they have a very cool menu and would definitely go back. Benjamin at the cash was great!

Honestly, amazing place. This is not typical Mexican tacos. This is more like experiment and an adventure. I got some chimichurri. I got some chicken and waffles and I got some of their cake. Everything I had was amazing. Great flavor and good quantity. It’s on Congress so it’s pretty walkable. Staff was helpful in telling me what to get and flavor, profiles, etc. There is a ton of options, healthy and unhealthy. The queso was also super tasty. It’s right next to a bowling alley so a good food stop before fun. Good for individual and group outings. The chimchurri is spicy

This place was one of the saving graces for Austin for us. The brisket nachos were amazing and the tacos were delicious. If you are in or visiting the Austin area give them a try you won’t regret it.

This is a late night review. I got to say this location comes in clutch after midnight. Not just because there’s food but because it great midnight food! I recommend the Mexicali-shrimp bowl, I usually add chicken or salmon with it. It hits every time. She likes to order the shrimp po’boy tacos and has not disappointed her yet. The night crew has always been awesome and attentive. If your out late hit velvet taco and enjoy. Thanks night crew. We’ll see you soon.

This place has amazing tacos, the place and atmosphere is super vibrant and cool. The Waffle taco special was amazing and my Buffalo Chicken taco too. The Buffalo Chicken taco is very spicy and has a nice kick to it. Lastly the margaritas are fantastic here! The staff here is super friendly here and shoutout to Benjamin who was super nice and helpful. Also he gave my brother a free red velvet cake which was super nice! I would highly recommend coming here for some good tacos!!!!!

We were looking for something late and came across the Velvet Taco. With this being our first time, the staff was extremely helpful and welcoming. Provided excellent suggestions from the menu. We tried the salmon, the bacon smash burger, spicy tikka and the grilled steak. All delicious and tasty. Will definitely be back and they stay open till 4 am!!!

Well, I really enjoyed my taco here. You can’t really give this place five stars. Nice tacos, fast service, creative Indian Mexican combinations the chicken think a taco is actually quite nice but after all of these, it is fast food and that’s what you stay with after you leave the restaurant.

Good late night spot. The late night crew were friendly and efficient! Not the most amazing tacos in the world but they certainly get the job done. Enjoyed the birria duo and the spicy tikka chicken. The chicken and waffles was also a fun choice. The steak in the chimichurri was pretty tough which was a bummer. Our friend got takeout from another establishment (picky eater) and the late night security would not let him inside with us. But overall, definitely worth stopping by after a late night on the town.

I visited Velvet Taco in Austin and ordered the bacon cheeseburger taco and the chicken and waffle taco with a sweet tea. The cheeseburger taco was absolutely amazing flavorful, juicy, and definitely worth trying. The chicken and waffle taco was decent, not bad but not as impressive as the cheeseburger taco. Overall, a good experience with friendly service and unique menu options

Rating: 3.8/5 [dine in] Velvet Taco has so many interesting taco choices, so I was excited when our friend picked this spot for dinner. They feature a new taco flavor every week, which is fun and makes you want to come back to try more. It's a very casual dining spot where you're expected to bus your own table. We ordered two combos which each come with two tacos, a side, and a fountain drink. You can upgrade to a boozy drink for extra. Combo ($14.95) + Large Rocks Kick Ass Margarita ($9): My husband got the Fish 'N Chips and Korean Fried Rice tacos. The beer-battered cod was super crispy and delicious. The Korean Fried Rice taco, made with slow-roasted pulled pork and gochujang egg fried rice, surprisingly lacked flavor compared to the cod. For his side, he chose the classic guac with blue corn chips. The guac tasted fresher than the avocado in my Mexi-Cali Shrimp taco, but it didn’t have any kick from the jalapeño or brightness from the lime juice. The margarita, made with tequila, orange liqueur, lime juice, and agave nectar, was easy to drink, though I preferred my frozen version. Combo ($14.95) + Regular Swirl ($6): I got the Quesa Birria Duo and Mexi-Cali Shrimp tacos. They forgot the birria consomé for dipping, which I didn’t realize until I reread the menu afterward. The birria tacos were just okay—light on the filling—and probably would have been much better with the consomé. The Mexi-Cali Shrimp taco was generously filled, and I really liked the blackened shrimp, but the avocado wasn’t ripe. For my side, I chose the elote, which came with blue corn chips. The elote was average, and the chips were borderline stale. The Sangrita Swirl (a red wine blend mixed with the frozen Kick Ass Margarita) was unique, tasty, and had a lighter alcohol taste compared to the original. Our friend also got a combo and shared her queso blanco side which ended up being my favorite. She found it spicy, but I didn’t think so.

Felt the need for some tacos once I hit Austin and a quick Google search brought me to Velvet Taco 🌮 I got the Spicy Tikka Chicken taco which was pretty good! The service was fairly quick and it seemed like a popular place since 1) it was busy 2) I saw the same bunch of folks that I saw at the airport which wasn’t too long ago! Good taco joint. We stopped in while visiting 6 Street, checking out Austin. The brisket taco was super tasty. Was a little disappointed with the WTF taco, fried green tomato, and shrimp. It was drenched in a garlic aioli sauce, and it just overpowered everything. I was only able to take a single bite. Other than that, everything else was good. My wife and daughter really liked their bowls. Prices weren't too bad, and they had a pretty good selection. Walk up counter, make your order, and when ready, they call your name. Fountain drinks and cooler with beers and water. Didn't grab a slice of Red Velvet, but it looked good. Location had a good amount of seating. Right downtown, just off the main part of 6th Street, so you can grab a bite and then hit up some bars for live music. Nice solid, taco joint.

This place is average at best. The service is great, but the food itself is just OK. The mexi cali Taco was the best thing we had, and the chicken tikka taco was decent too. When you pay $15+ for chips and three dips, You expect them to be great. The guacamole was just average at best, the queso was not warm, and the roasted salsa was well below average. The place was clean, and the workers were nice but I probably wouldn’t go back.
