Had my mothers 54th birthday here yesterday dec 11th.Reserved for 16 ppl but it was at least 8-9 extra ppl that came😭The place is small small. but they still made away to accommodate the rest of the party and made us feel really comfortable.Food was A1 and the drinks were bomb.The bartender was nice and friendly and all the servers were Wonderful.My mom enjoyed her 54th birthday will definitely be going back.

This is a great Mexican Restaurant with great food, a nice upscale ambiance, great and friendly service, in a nice and upscale neighborhood. Definitely come for lunch as it's busy but not too busy to where you'll wait forever for a table. Kick back and relax here and enjoy yourself.

It was my wife's birthday, so Josue made sure some of the wait staff came over to sing the birthday song and brought a slice of cheesecake with a candle on it. The restaurant's acoustics allowed for easy conversation around our table. We'll be back again soon.

My husband and I have dined at Sol Y Luna since 2017 and the restaurant has never disappointed. Over the years we have brought family and friends, who have also enjoyed the food. I am writing this review because the entire restaurant is the epidemy of class, from the people to the food. The pandemic did not even change this because the owner graciously declined tips, only asking that we come back. This last Friday, was one of the best times. Firstly, it was so busy, which was wonderful to see. It did however, mean that we had to sit in the bar. The waiter and bus boy were both so considerate and did not ignore anyone sitting in the bar. When it was clear that food was going to take a bit longer, they brought out the best complimentary cream of broccoli soup. Sol Y Luna really is the best Mexican restaurant in Bakersfield, hands down.

We went to Smitten for Mother's Day but the kitchen was closed so we tried Sol y Luna nearby. If you're vegetarian or vegan they have veggie fajitas (for vegan just ask for no cheese if you get refried beans). I verified with the server that the rice and refried beans are vegetarian/vegan. It seems pretty pricey (especially for Bakersfield) but the portion was at least large for the fajita veggies and they tasted pretty good as well.

Update: **The bar offers nice ambience and is great place to go have a drink and conversation with strangers.** I'm giving it a 3 because the ambiance and service is great. The decor is done very well. My disappointment is the food is less than mediocre. On my recent visit, I ordered the carne asada. I asked for medium-rare and got well done. the steak was very thin and poorly seasoned. It lacked the mallard reaction you would expect from a nice steak. The cut of meat was poor and has some gristle. It was served with a small portion of rice (I like that), refried beans in a small taco shell, a side of guacamole and pico de gallo. I gave my wifemy soup, which she said was very good. We believe it was a carnita/vegetable soup. My wife ordered the tostada de caramone, an appetizer. It appeared to be cooked ceviche style, which we were hoping for. However, the shrimp was very chewy, like it was overcooked. She did not finish it. The salsa, served with the chips prior to the meal, was very onioney. We didn't finish the bowl or the chips. If you like spicy, you're not going to get it with the salsa. I have been twice. Many of the the staff take pride in the restaurant. I like that. I admire one hostesses standards and professionalism. One of the older male servers is an excellent server, with some old school professional serving skills. If he and the hostess set the standard, it would rank 4-star service. I'll try to learn the names next time to acknowledge them. The service is good. And, often that is good enough for me. However, the prices are high for this quality of Mexican food. I did like the atmosphere though. We'll go back, but it's not one of those places to go to to enjoy the cuisine. If you're looking for nice place to enjoy a drink and some appetizers, I highly recommend. They have a section for private events, which I think is an asset to the restaurant. The ambiance and the service would make this a nice place to have an event. Also, the bar feels separate than the restaurant, which makes it nice. The bar should be a little quieter in my opinion, but it's not distracting in the dining room. I want the back of the house to take the same pride as the front of the house staff. I want this to be an all around great restaurant.

The chicken Fajita is either raw or burnt. Last 2 visits there was no taste in the fajita and we decided to try again and they gave us fajita with burnt onions and old avocado. When I informed the waiter, he said this is how it should be made. Next time, If you don’t want it tell us that leave it raw and not to cook too much. I don’t know why my husband took me there again. Just don’t want to go back unless they change their cook.

The service here is excellent! Everyone is very friendly and helpful. The restaurant itself is also quite nice. Plenty of room for groups with large tables so everyone can sit together plus a bar area for those of us that like to informally belly up to the bar and meet whoever comes round. Also, an outdoor area that is comfortable even in the heat of the day. Not real impressed with the food. I notice I adding jalepenos and/or salsa to everything to get some flavor. I find it a little generic without any plates that really stand out. Its perfectly fine.

The atmosphere was empty on a Friday night, it should have been a red flag to begin with. The food was unremarkable in both flavor and portion, especially considering the price point, the appearance of the restaurant, and the location. What left the worst impression, however, was the handling of our payment. We waited far too long for our change, only to be told without consent that it had been assumed we didn’t want it back. I had to track someone down just to reclaim the taken money. It was not only presumptuous but unprofessional. An odd and disappointing experience from start to finish. Do not bring your family here.
