Been here 9 times over the years. It is a gem. On all fronts. Worth the trip if you are not local. If you are local you are lucky to have a restaurant that changes it's delicious menu based on conditions, like what is in season from local farms. The menu is never boring. The chefs and service staff are exceptional.
Rotating seasonal menu that competes with world-class restaurants for flavor. Never a sour note. Sometimes difficult to find a seating, reservation recommended but not required.
Soft lighting and a warm rustic feel that matches the staff's warm smiles. Secret vegan menu. Just ask for it and endulge. Great place to bring a date. They will be impressed.
First time here. My type of place. Small, intimate and cozy. We started with the heirloom apple salad, moved on to the mushroom handheld and the pork tenderloin. Everything was very good. The salad large enough for two. The tenderloin, perfectly cooked and paired with a sauce made from apples. We had no room for dessert. The service was great. Overall a home run.
We ordered Thanksgiving dinner to go for 2. One of the few places around the are that would cater to just a couple - while we were vacationing in the area. Incredible food - even as take out. Cannot comment on their service for indoor dining but I'm sure it is great. Their stuffing was delicious, and their cranberry sauce and grave just perfect. Best home cooked meal while on vacation ever. Highly recommend.
Spinster Sisters did not disappoint! We had a cozy corner table by the window on a quiet evening with only three tables occupied. The staff acknowledged our anniversary reservation, which was a nice touch. **Drinks** - Bizarro Aperitif (Aperol-style bitter on the rocks) - $12 - Amista Blanc de Blanc Chardonnay - $16 - Italian Red - $16 - County Line Pinot Noir - $16 **Appetizers** Local oysters ($4 each) - Perfect small bites, clean ocean taste, served on ice with mignonette. Beautiful scalloped shells from Washington. **Small Plates** - Smoked Trout ($18) - Generous portion served on beets with endive. Delicious, though needed a pinch of salt. - Spicy Heirloom Tomato Soup ($15) - Excellent kick, fresh sweet tomatoes with focaccia croutons. Perfect portion. **Entrees** - Chicken and Figs ($35) - Mary's roasted chicken with creamy polenta, figs and Swiss chard. Good chicken, though the polenta was heavy with cream. - Local Black Cod ($40) - Outstanding. One of my top 5 dishes ever. Served with chicories, Jerusalem artichoke, and green olive tapenade. The combination of bitter greens, salty umami tapenade, and perfectly pan-fried sweet cod was unforgettable. **Dessert** Bittersweet Chocolate Torte - Rich chocolate with vanilla mousseline and wafer biscuit. Excellent, though would have benefited from a finishing salt like Maldon. **Service Notes** Service was prompt but rushed. Courses arrived immediately after clearing the previous one with no breathing room. The server brought the anniversary dessert with a candle while I was in the restroom. Water wasn't consistently refilled. The server was kind but seemed shy and eager to close up for the evening. **Value** Total: $191.40 before tip. I suppose the pricing feels on par for Santa Rosa in 2025, but wow. Definitely the most we have ever paid for an anniversary meal. **Overall** A memorable anniversary meal with exceptional food, particularly the black cod. The rushed service detracted from an otherwise excellent experience, but gave us something to talk about!
I have not had that good of a meal in a loooong time. Service was immaculate-foods came out at exactly the right times, she had her eyes on us so we easily communicated if we needed something without being interrupted and the banter with our server was also a delight. The garden was so cute and they did a good job of making it feel cozy even with the highway nearby. And the drinks!!! GF dessert! Happy anniversary to my babe!!
Spencer Sisters feels like a place you stumble upon and then immediately want to tell everyone about — or keep secret just a little longer. Tucked away but buzzing with energy, this bistro brings a confident spin to American fare, with a raw bar that rivals the coast and a pastry program that deserves its own spotlight. Let’s start where any visit should: the oysters. Always impeccably fresh, served ice-cold with thoughtful accompaniments that let the brininess shine. Whether you're a purist with lemon or a mignonette devotee, there’s no wrong way to start your meal here. From there, the menu leans classic but never boring — think beautifully seared fish, well-sourced meats, and seasonal vegetables treated with care. Every dish feels grounded in American tradition but with just enough finesse to keep it interesting. It’s familiar food, elevated. The wine list is another highlight. Smartly curated, it walks the line between comfort and discovery — you'll find respected domestic producers alongside intriguing international picks. Whether you’re pairing with oysters or a rich entrée, there’s always a bottle (or glass) that feels just right. And then there’s the pastry — truly next-level. Whether it's a buttery tart, a delicate layered cake, or a warm, seasonal dessert with a modern twist, the sweets here are far more than an afterthought. You’ll regret skipping dessert — trust us. Spencer Sisters is the kind of place that does the small things right, and that adds up to something special. Warm service, a sense of place, and a menu that hits all the right notes — from sea to pastry case. It’s a bistro with backbone and charm.
Amazing restaurant with absolutely amazing food, service and atmosphere. Shared pickled vegetables which were crisp and super fresh, pear salad with roasted fig balsamic vinaigrette and the most delectable blue cheese ever! And the pan seared halibut served over ratatouille. Absolutely mouth watering. For dessert, we had the chocolate bread pudding with vanilla ice cream. Worth every bite!!!. Our server made this an exceptional and memorable experience. Do not miss the opportunity to go here! I will definitely be back next time I am visiting Napa.
Wow! First off the staff here are amazing, they were always on top of things and very friendly. The food is great with sharable small plates and a broad menu and they switch it up regularly too. We ate outdoors and it was a very nice experience, it was well shaded when sunny and they had heaters for when it got brisk. Everything we ordered was tasty and fresh and they had some great wines available. Having the sommelier come and suggest pairings that definitely made the meal! We will be back 😊
Been wanting to go here for a long time. I'm not a local, I live in So Cal, but I come to SR for biz a few times a year and this turned out to be a bucket list visit as I can't believe my mouth! I have to keep the review PG, but man the food is great. Very inventive. Love that the menu is ever changing and burger Wednesday tonight was next level inventive! I had a foodgasim while eating this burger! When in Santa Rosa, go big or go home but make haste and make your way to the Spinster Sisters. If you're a foodie but not pretentious, this is your jam. The decor, vibe, service is all very welcoming and again, for the incredible food they make, they are not pretentious! Prepare yourself and come hungry!
I can’t share enough praise about this restaurant. I’ve eaten at a lot of places but this is one of my favorites. Stellar staff makes this place and the food was absolutely out of this world. Wonderful minimal intervention wine list and lots of women wine makers. The vibe is on point. Thank you so so much for making this such a memorable and wonderful experience. Group of 11 was accommodated wonderfully and served attentively. Love you all
Sweet little spot down the way from Cafe Frida, with a smattering of tables as well as 'counter' seating (although I don't recommend for those who need more comfortable chairs...the counter seats are slender and tall, and plain wood. In fact, the table seats were also bare bones...if you have a sensitive back, bring a soft pillow. Food is delicious but pricey (example: main dishes run as high as $40). A glass of sparkling chardonnay was $14. Reservations are highly recommended as the place is not roomy.
I have been wanting to come here for a while, and the food was pretty good. I absolutely love the vibe of this place, and the spinster fries are to die for!!! The reason I am doing 4 stars though is because of the price and quantity ratio. Their steak, which was fine/good, was flat iron, which I don’t believe is the best cut of steak and for $45 you barely get any! But the sauce with it is so good. Everything we tried we enjoyed, but it is hard to say we would come back because of how pricey it was. I also loved that they had a Juneteenth celebration, The Spinster Sisters is obviously community oriented, and I do think they have a great thing going on, but again just too pricey, and there are other places I would rather go for the price. Maybe if there are special/local ingredients they could highlight that more to make it more worth it? Just my suggestion!
family style new american restaurant in santa rosa serving fresh food and warm vibes. all of the dishes were delicious, had good variety and well priced. small plates definitely better than large plates. service was pleasant. atmosphere was top tier, loved the warm lighting and bookshelf wall. perfect for a girls night or date night but better with a group to try more dishes. overall, would come back when i’m in the area! focaccia: small portions but tasty dish. focaccia had a nice crispy crust. dungeness crab fritters: well loved across the group! great flavor and chewy texture. chicken liver mousse: recommend if you like liver mousse! pairs well with the accompanying bread. can ask for more bread since the ratio is off. baked dungeness crab dip: one of the best dishes. dip was rich and creamy and the crackers were a great pairing. must try! spinster fries: well made side dish! fries were perfectly crispy and the sofa sauce was amazing. spiced carrots: so flavorful without being limp. must try! ricotta cavatelli: pasta was al dente but this dish was unmemorable california halibut: not a fan of the chickpeas but fish was decent.
This place is alright. Too expensive for what they're offering. I was waiting for quite a while before I received water or menus. The food was pretty bland. They had some really yummy hot sauce, but the food should stand on its own, not need hot sauce for every dish to make it enjoyable. (I'm not even a hot sauce heavy person). Very little chicken in the chicken and dumplings. The lamp cabbage rolls actually I enjoyed because they did not taste much like lamb...but that might be a negative for someone who likes lamb. Didn't order their desserts, but they looked delicious. Overall I wouldn't be back mainly because of how expensive it is, it's just not worth it for just decent food.
My girlfriends and I came here for dinner. While we loved the service & ambiance, our tummies and wallets were not satisfied. We came in as a group of five and were told by our waitress that all the dishes are meant to be shared. That may work for a group of two perhaps, but definitely not for a group of five girls. The portions were teeny tiny. We ordered the scallops, king salmon, ricotta gnocchi, burrata, brooks cherry salad, grazin’ girl cheese, and goat cheesecake. We really enjoyed the scallops, salmon, burrata, and cheesecake. The flavors were unique and tasty, but again, the portions were small while the prices were exorbitant. The grazin’ girl cheese was a disappointed and the presentation was lackluster. We spent $180 and left hungry. One of the girls in our group was becoming so hangry we had to go have a second dinner at In-N-Out. We would recommend coming here for a cute date night for two people but we definitely would not recommend this spot for a group of people. The dishes were definitely not shareable. We have never left a restaurant starving before.
I would never come back. The service and ambiance was exceptional. The food was extremely underwhelming. The clam chowder was bland with little clam found. The oysters were served with no cocktail sauce and were not that great. The chicken meatballs were very dry and not as tasty as I had hoped. I was disappointed prior to receiving the rest of the food. The ribs were not edible and I had one piece and sent the rest back. The lobster roll was edible, but not great. I am a foodie and want good food along with the ambiance and service. I cannot understand how they can have repeat business with the food quality. Time for a chef change, in my opnioin. Additionally, the prices are very high. Skip this place and visit the many good options in the area!!
