Jiro ramen was the best ramen I had in LA!

Unexpected find! We ordered chashu ramen and spicy miso ramen last weekend. Here are the things we liked: 1. Chashu- ramens had 6 pcs of Chashu! 2. Onions - we usually see green onions on ramen but this ramen had white(?) onions. It definitely enhanced the flavor of the chashu. 3. Temperature - other ramens are served too hot and we would often burn our toungue or wait a long time for it too be cool enough to eat. 4. Amount - the amount of chashu and noodle was perfect for us! We would definitely return to try the other ramen!

I go to Umenoya every chance I get when I’m near the area. One of my favorite ramen joints in LA. The broth is delicious & fatty. The large portion is what I always get. It’s so satisfying & tasty. The chashu just melts in your tongue.

Fresh, delicious, affordable, and great for eating alone. Both jiro ramen and fried octopus are very good.

Shabby interior but ramen is solid. Close to what you get in Japan. Authentic and good.

I Don’t think I’m having their cilantro gyozas anywhere else. I could eat this forever. Also the most delicious ramen. The lady host was very kind and welcoming. LOVED the experience.

I can barely find Jiro Ramen in US. And their large Jiro is the best ever Ramen I could expect. Kudos to this restaurant!

I love this place and the staff, I always get the spicy miso Chashu ramen and it is heaven sent 🤤. Would highly recommend if you love great ramen.

We come from the Bay Area and being from out of town and loving Ramen, we wanted to find one to try down here. We got the Garlic Tonkotsu & Regular Tonkotsu and both tasted fantastic. This tastes more real than the commercial ramen places we’ve ate at where we live. Great hours, great environment, and great service. Will have to dine in when we’re back in town.

Ramen served in big bowls! so good and worth it. Its a small place so sometimes you have to wait outdoors.

I went last night and had the black garlic tonkotsu and it was amazing! This is probably the best ramen I’ve ever tried. Very flavorful!

First timer. Tonkotsu Ramen was delicious. Friend thought broth was a bit salty, but not a deal breaker since its also rich, hearty and flavorful. We also both enjoyed the gyoza - pork hearty, with that perfect pan fried crunch and soft dumpling texture. Great staff too - attentive and nice. Bonus purse hanging hook thing! :) Recommended all around.

Wow, I mean wow! The Jiro Ramen here was everything I have been looking for in a ramen for years on years ever since I visited Japan. To start off I was in the area around 10:45pm and was looking for a place to get a quick bowl of late night ramen. Was rejected at one place so I found myself driving here. If you love salty, garlicky, pork deliciousness please order the Jiro Ramen with extra salt! Yes I know everyone in the states usually goes for the spicy miso but seriously there are so many different types of delicious ramen that you need to try. Taste: 10/10 It’s been a long time since I had a ramen that was so rich and deep in pork/garlic. I was floating in a river of umami for the whole time I was eating my food. Ask for salty so that if you do end up getting a bunch of toppings like me the broth will stay flavorful as the toppings release water into the broth. Texture: 9/10 I personally would put 10 but putting 9 as I know some people don’t like the texture of bean sprouts and cabbage, but for me that is the part of what makes the broth at the end taste so delicious! Noodles: 10/10 if you like ramen you can tell when a ramen shop uses the generic store packaged ramen. These noodles were so incredibly flavorful, tangy, and held they bounciness for until the very last bite. The noodles did not get water logged at all and it was enjoyable through and through. Service: 10/10 The waitress and cooks were very friendly. I came in at 11pm on a Saturday night and they looked tired but happy to greet me and made sure to let me know about last call. Very friendly and homey. I will be back so please go to this place on another day so I don’t have to wait in line. It seems like the rating of 4.1 does not match the quality of food so perhaps they have recovered from the pandemic and the people who work on Saturday evening (chefs and waiters) really know what they are doing with ramen.

Ordered my usual Tonkotsu, fried rice. Tried oxtail ramen for the first time. Meat was soft and broth was clear and great flavor.

One of the best ramen experiences I’ve ever had! The service was incredible! Extremely friendly server who was able to keep up with a full restaurant! The ramen broth was rich and flavorful. I ordered the spicy miso ramen and my only regret is not ordering the one with more pork because of how delicious it was! Next time for sure I’ll order the chashu spicy miso! The karaage was so crispy and I loved that they served it was a side of Mayo! Will definitely be back!

The second time I've been here for late night eats, and it was better than the first time! I got the Kogashi Shoyu Ramen on the waitress's recommendation. It was a perfect balance of creamy, salty, savory and gamey. The pork melted like butter! It was fantastic!

The place is tiny, so if you are claustrophobic I would suggest getting outside seating or to go. The food is great, we have been here couple of times specifically for Yuzu and Jiro Ramen. We also tried their seasonal fried oyster appetizer and it was the bomb. Highly recommend it. Tasted fresh, crunchy, and clean. Alas beware, it's fried to order, so it will be hot. As to ramen: portion are great and the large size, is no joke (especially Jiro ramen). The broth has a very deep pork flavor and in case of Jiro it was loaded with garlic and chopped onions. The additional crunch from bean sprouts and cabbages just makes this ramen so great and unique. The chashu is tender and melts in your mouth, just make sure to dunk it in the hot broth (as it might come tad cold). Yuzu, I didn't have a chance to try, but the bowl was completely empty as I was still working my way through my Jiro. The broth looked clear and by it smelled refreshing.

We've dined at Umenoya since they first opened, and when they first opened, they were open until 3:00AM (they don't anymore)! I wonder if the owner/manager still commutes from Covina area?! Umenoya used to be our late night go-to place for a delicious bowl of ramen when we lived in Torrance. We moved to Texas 3 years ago, but I still try to stop by twice a year every time I'm in town for a business trip. My go-to is their tonkotsu chashu ramen, no pickled ginger, with a can of Dr. Pepper! The tonkotsu broth is rich and delicious. The noodles are chewy, fresh and great to slurp with a spoonful of broth!. And the chashu are the absolute best I've ever had; tender, flavorful and moist -- I've yet to enjoy chashu that tops the one that Umenoya delivers. I love onion and the fact that Umenoya adds minced fresh onion and green onion to each bowl just hits every mark in my book! Looking forward to another bowl in April! Did I also mention that Umenoya serves amazing fried rice?

Personal go to spot for ramen in the South Bay, there's probably other spots I need to explore and I'm not a ramen snob but their menu has good variety without being too complicated, they have a good appetizer list, the broth has a solid taste in the handful of variations I've tried and I personally like the small compact feel of the storefront. Might not be for everyone but it hits the spot for me. Great to walk to if you live in Lomita.

Small legit Japanese ramen shop located off Crenshaw blvd in Torrance that was recommended to me by a local friend🤙 Open late, which was a plus since I wanted a hot ramen on a cold rainy March night. Parking was tight since its in a small mini mall with lots of restaurants but managed to find a spot closeby. Seating is a bit tight as its in a small restaurant but it is enough for a quick bite. Walked in and was greeted warmly. This place has two sizes of ramen, my eyes were bigger than my stomach 😄 so i ordered the Large Jiro Ramen, along with a side order of gyoza and karaage chicken. Food is definitely top notch, felt like I was in Japan. All the food was served piping hot and was delicious. Again, the Large size was way too much for me, I would suggust a regular portion when we return next time😄 Gyozas and Chicken Karaage were also legit, true to the ones in Japan. Definitely impressed, will return again on my next visit. 5 stars🤙

I've been to this spot with my wife plenty of times, figured I would drop some info about them in the present time. They really tried their best when COVID was surging so they got our business no doubt. Today I grabbed the black garlic tonkotsu ramen (special on the chalkboard) as well as some cilantro lime gyoza, fried gyoza and fried rice (Large). This particular ramen features a rich flavored broth that goes perfectly with the buttery chashu. The service was on point, water was promptly brought at the beginning of our dine and they remained attentive throughout our visit there.

Small but reality good Ramen. Oh did I mention the Curry. They have home made goyza for the best I've had. The portions are very well served and the people working here are very hospitable. They also have specials hand written on their blackboard and they change it often. They even have eel misubi and spam too.

Been a faithful customer for over 10 years, tonkotsu ramen is what I order. I’ve tried all the places around the South Bay, yes, ALL. Tonkotsu is best here. Some people have said the manager/hostess/waitress isn’t nice. She could punch me in the face and I’d still come back, I don’t come here to make friends. Haha

Usually good but disappointed tonight. I had ordered tea, and my kids one ramen dish each. I wasn't hungry and really just wanted to sit and hang out with them tonight. (9pm already.) Staff or owner came by and told me that everyone has to order something. I was confused as to why someone is forced to order food if they're not hungry. If i were to leave or stay, it wouldn't have affected their capacity since all the tables were empty besides ours. Still don't get it. She told me to just order the edemame, so i did. The door says $15 minimum for credit cards but our order was already over $30, and she didn't ask if we were paying with cash or not. Weird.

Ramen and fried rice were delicious! However, their no outside drink policy when we were dining out in the parking lot seems a bit bizarre. We bought some Sharetea. Too bad the lady insisted on enforcing it, otherwise would've tipped more.

Quite quite good. The unagi musubi is a great twist on a classic... although it's a bit messy to eat since the eel doesn't hold together as well as spam :p The jiro ramen was quite nice but so much bean sprouts! You gotta love bean sprouts if you order this one.

Very tasty, very friendly servers and prompt on table service. Fair prices. The broth is a little bland if you dont go spicy. The eggs are inconsistent (sometimes great sometimes just ok), the pork is delicious! Some of the best ramen pork I've had. In the end I prefer other nearby ramen options, but this is good too!

Best and probably the only ramen shop that serves Kagoshi Shoyu Ramen in town. The broth is filled with Umami, definitely a whole different experience.

This cozy little spot is always packed at dinner--either we're chronically unlucky or it's THE go-to. We finally scored on a quiet Monday evening around 6pm. It's snug, with limited seating, but the service is quick and the vibes are warm. We both went for the spicy miso--mine regular, his large. I devoured mine, he claims they were stingy on noodles. All in all, it was a good experience, flavour was honestly decent, but not as rich as I would have liked. Would I return? For the regular spicy miso bowl, perhaps. For the large, maybe not. That being said I'd love to come back and explore the other items on their menu.

I have a regular portion of the spicy ramen. They have a large size for significantly more money. A friend of mine who has the large portion mentioned it was not much more than the regular. He just got three extra slices of meat. The food is on the 'taste good' side. The waitress was not very friendly and asked us to leave as soon as we finished our food because there were people waiting. The place is small and cramped.

D
Diana Wong

Decent little spot for ramen. Service was okay. If you come in a group make sure your party is with you or they won't seat you. Broth was 3/5, noodles 3/5, egg 1/5 (was not marinated & was cold!) Serving size was good.

J
Judy Aguilera

My first time coming. I was so hungry and looking forward to the ramen. Ordered 2 different kinds. My broth was so salty, and so was my other order. Kinda bummed the way it was seasoned. No love put into it! Had to toss out the broth so I can at least eat the rest. In addition, the chicken is hard.

K
Kevin Obembe

Long story short: Food was decently priced, my dish (yakisoba) tasted okay, just a little watery. The spicy miso ramen was not good (friend’s review) and service can be much improved. Arrived as a party of two. There were probably 4 other guests seated inside at the time. Requested to be seated outside, where there was a small square table with 3 seats around it and another 2 tables that were side by side with more seats around. We made our move to the two tables that were side by side and were instructed to sit at the single table. Alright I understand, maybe there will be a larger group coming in the future. Next my friend brought an unfinished can of Arizona tea to drink with their meal, we were told “no outside drinks”. I can understand this as well. Once we were settled, the waitress handed us the menus and we ordered 1 yakisoba, 1 spicy ramen and 1 four piece gyoza. Gyoza came out first and had no issues with this. I thought the gyoza was tasty. From the outside my friend noticed that the condiments used to modify the ramen were located inside right behind the glass we were sitting outside of. I walked inside and attempted to take out the condiment tray but was stopped by the waitress and told that she would take them to us. She walked outside and asked which one my friend wanted and after some confusion on why the whole tray could not be outside, the waitress dropped off two condiments from the tray and left them on our table. Next the entrees came out. Started on my yakisoba and it tasted alright. The only thing I noticed with the yakisoba was water or liquid collecting at the bottom of the plate. My friend started to eat their spicy ramen and was disappointed at the first taste. My friend is very intimately familiar with Japanese dishes and was surprised at its taste, and even questioned themselves if they ordered the right item. The ramen was stirred and still it did not improve the taste. The ramen was missing the egg as well, so I walked inside and stated that the egg was missing and was told to check the bottom of the bowl. The waitress walked outside and watched as my friend turned over their bowl only to find out that the egg was not there. The waitress came out with an egg but was not apologetic in tone. Not once were we checked on and asked “how is your meal so far?” The main problem with the restaurant was the service. Most of the issues can simply be remedied by adding a “sorry” in front of the sentence stating what we cannot do and maybe followed by a brief explanation why it is not possible. For example, “sorry those seats are reserved for larger parties” or “sorry you can not take out the condiments due to health and safety laws stated by the health inspector.” It comes off a bit rude/harsh and makes the customer feel unwelcome. From what I could tell, there were 2 cooks and 1 waitress, maybe understaffed. This was on a Sunday around 2 hours from closing. Could it have been an off day for the restaurant, possibly, but it was not a good first impression.

T
Tydus Winans

Other reviewers are correct. I went there with my family @ 10:20pm on 7/1/22. As we stood there for over 5 minutes, the waitress never looked at us even when she passed by us to serve the outdoor diners. 1 of the cooks stared at us and didn't even say anything. We left and patronized another business down the street. Don't waste your time with this place.

Place was dead empty and came with a few people made us all order our own dish and tried to put their own 25% gratuity on even though there rule is 18%. Only three people in our party felt like eating and they waited until after they ordered our mains and others in our party said they didn't feel like eating to tell us about that rule. Overall just okay place and wouldn't go back.

Food is not really up to grade (too much salty ramen soup). Moreover, the lady from the front was rude since we entered there. She was kind of forcing us to give more tips. Not really recommended if you looking for a good eating place with peaceful atmosphere.

I have anxiety and I have problems with somatization so my dog is enrolled in a service dog class and can give me medication when necessary. I went to this restaurant and the waitress said they don't allow dogs, and I said mine is a service dog and I explained that my dog is not an emotional dog. But she still didn't allow us to sit inside, I said I could sit outside, but I waited for 5 minutes and didn't give me any menu or greeting, I went into the restaurant and asked her why my service dog couldn't come in and I still couldn't get the menu, she told me they only accept service dogs for blind people, I didn't count my dog as a service dog until I blind my dog. And she said to ask us to leave, she wouldn't receive us! I was very angry, we had the proper papers and we didn't want to bother anyone else about sitting outside for dinner! But she said they wouldn't take us! There are thousands of service dogs in the United States not only for the blind, there are people like me who have severe anxiety and can't breathe and people with type 1 diabetes who need service dogs to alert their owners to their blood sugar by smelling, service dogs are not just for the blind. And just let u know I have submitted the true and valid documents about me and my service dog to the relevant department of civil right divison, and I have filed a complaint against you for discrimination!

I used to love coming here a lot, but the staff now literally act like they don't want to be there and find ways to make you seem like you're a huge inconvenience. Eating alone? Hurry up and get out. Eating with more than two people? Wait in the freezing cold and be skipped due to the size of your party. If you don't like running a restaurant, then FIND A DIFFERENT JOB. Don't take it out on the customers, sheesh. I'm a professional chef and I get the grief of working in the industry, but this kind of behavior is ridiculous.

I never feel welcomed by the manager, the only waitress that’s I’ve seen in the restaurant. She’s this older lady. I was trying my best to be cordial with her. On the first time I tried out this place, she already gave me bad vibes and attitude. Seriously, too unfortunate….. because Umenoya has always gets me. It is my favorite ramen place for its best ramen in town, based on my experience at least. This time around, she insisted that I sit where she asked me to and I asked her why can’t I sit at the corner (I wanted some privacy) then she got really irritated, lips were shivering and said “you always pick that seat! You are so difficult.” I sat and looked at the menu and thought I don’t want to eat here with her presence anymore. I didn’t have to be yelled at and judged like that, simply because she doesn’t want to serve anyone at that particular table. So I decided to order to go but she said that dish I wanted can only be “dine-in”……. I said very reluctantly “you’re making me not want to eat here anymore” She said “okay you don’t have to eat here” Even if I decided to stay, I wouldn’t know what she’d put in my food. It’s very unfortunate, because it does have the best taste in town. Honestly, if she didn’t talk to me like that I wouldn’t have felt strongly about her attitude. I have noticed how extra nice she is to male patrons. I just can’t understand her why she would think it’s okay to talk to patrons like that…

Look i am almost never even remotely prompted to leave a review unless its REALLY bad. I came in here while it was empty with my girlfriend. Like literally empty, anyway they bring us to a small table for 2. We ask if we could sit in a booth instead and are denied because "booth for 3 or more". Mind you the only reason I asked is because I'm 6'3 205 lbs and these tables are barely big enough to fit 2 bowls of ramen and an appetizer. I understand wanting to reserve the tables for for larger parties, however WE WERE THE ONLY PEOPLE IN THE RESTAURANT. Anyway I had been here before and the ramen used to be good. Not so much anymore ramen had like literally a pound of ginger in it. Don't come here they clearly aren't in the service industry.
