Two drenched and dripping English cycletourists walked in on a busy Sunday (national day of Spain too ) and the staff didn't bat an eyelid ... Offered us a table close to the bar, and the menu del día, which had a great range of choices. Excellent food (paella marinara really good) and very good-humoured service. If we weren't cycling the length of Spain, I would be going back there.
We were looking for a place to stop for lunch on our route and looked for recommendations. This restaurant came up as an option, and it was a great choice. A daily menu included a starter, main course, small salad, bread, a drink, dessert, and coffee. We ordered full menus some days, and one with just the starter. We ordered rice with cuttlefish. The rice was good, with artichokes, and they were delicious and well-cooked. For the main course, we ordered turkey cutlets, which were very well-cooked and came with roasted vegetables that we loved, along with homemade fries. We also ordered the marinated ribs, which came in a casserole with potatoes and were very tender. The desserts and coffee were also good. The staff was very attentive and attentive. Easy parking right in front. They have a terrace, although we were inside with the air conditioning. The bathroom could use some renovations; the toilet was clean, and the women's restroom leaked water when flushed. Overall, a very good experience!
We ordered pig's snout from the center, it was kind of breaded. Then we had some sandwiches, which tasted very good, although perhaps a little small, at least the pork loin one; the tortilla sandwich was generously filled. After that, we had some carajillos (coffee with brandy) which were included in the set menu, which is a nice touch. A great atmosphere for cyclists and if you're going hiking or running in the mountains.
Exceptional service. We arrived late, the kitchen was closing, and they did everything they could to feed us. Lovely staff. Good value (set menu €12), nice setting. Good food, especially the cuttlefish stew... Delicious!!! It's become our regular stop at the beginning and end of our holidays.
I was looking for a restaurant while traveling to Catalonia from Alicante on the highway. I found this one. After seeing the great reviews, my family and I decided to head to "El Refugio," and what a great choice it was. As soon as we arrived, parking was easy, as there's a parking lot right in front of the restaurant. When we arrived, we saw a large terrace outside and a fairly spacious dining room inside. Some tables were reserved. We went early at lunchtime, around 1:00 PM, during the week, so we had no trouble finding a table. We saw that there was a menu, but we decided to order a salad as a starter, accompanied by bread, which was delicious, by the way. Then we each had a main course: lamb chops, grilled squid, and grilled free-range chicken. For dessert, we had nougat ice cream and banana and pineapple tart. The service was very friendly, we loved the food; everything was homemade and came out fairly quickly. And the value for money was very good. I highly recommend it.
The food looks delicious, but unfortunately I am away from you to visit you, but I will try next year, God willing
Delicious food and nice ambience
Best place after works out in the mountains and the gueto!!!
The BEST!!
Today I went to El Refugio Restaurant for lunch with some friends, and overall it was good. The service from the waiters was excellent, the wait time was reasonable, and the atmosphere was lovely since we were on the outdoor terrace. As for the food, I've been there on other occasions and had better lunches. The sandwich seemed small, the pork loin and chicken breast sandwiches were sliced quite thinly, and the lunch plate was tiny. The pig's snout wasn't bad... but nothing special. They do provide olives and peanuts, which is a nice touch. Coffee/carajillo (a Spanish coffee with brandy) is also included with lunch. So, all in all, it was good. They even gave us some complimentary shots. We'll definitely be back, as it's a place we visit often after doing some exercise in the Desierto de Las Palmas.
Great place for lunch! Lunch menu for €7, which includes an appetizer (olives and peanuts) + soft drink + sandwich, or half a sandwich or portion + coffee (including a carajillo). Located on the way up to the Las Palmas desert, it has free dirt parking. It has an indoor dining room and a terrace. A wide variety of portions and sandwiches.
Brilliant 47euro for 4 of us, lovely adventure great staff and food September 19
Best Paella I've ever had. Amazing.
We came on Saturday at 15.45 and the restaurant was closed (but google said it should be opened). Maybe, it was because of siesta? But there is no information about this in the overview about this place. We are not locals and were very disappointed.
We ate a menu that cost €14.50 and they served us in fits and starts, but the worst thing was that everything was very dirty: the floor of the dining room, the bathroom, and a quantity of plates and glasses to wash that looked very bad. There was no room for anything on the entire bar. 😵💫
Overpriced mediocre food! It was my second and last time going to this restaurant. This time we got served by a very bad mood waitress. We asked for any vegetarian options and she looked at us and said: "we don't have anything"- raising her shoulders. No menu available. She had to tell us what was available and enthusiasm was not in order. Salad? I could make a better one at home for a fraction of the price. Gazpacho? Mercadona have better bottled ones. Fish? Was ok, but nothing more than just ok...for 22 euro? A joke! It's a pity - the place is beautiful. Get your things together and make something better out of it! As it is at the moment I would not recommend to anyone and I regret spending 150+ euro there.
Everything about this restaurant feels neglected. They serve glasses with a bit of frozen water and a lemon wedge that doesn't inspire much confidence. The bread is clearly frozen, the oil is tasteless, and the cold cuts don't look high-quality. Furthermore, the prices are surprisingly high for what they offer. It's a trendy spot, especially among those coming down from the mountains who don't have many other options nearby. It was surely an excellent place in the past, but today, for the price, one would expect fresh, carefully prepared food.
Unfortunately a very poor experience. The young man who waited on us read out the entries to fast to understand and was offended when we asked him to repeat his chant. It took him four repetitions to understand three simple drinks. The food when it came was very poor. Russian salads I could buy better in Lidl. Gazpacho terrible. A shared salad with minimal ingredients. Mains: fish tasteless and very poor chips and vegetables. One salad a miniature of the entry. A steak like the sole of a shoe and uneatable. I spoke to the owner and showed him our plates before they were cleared. He made no comment and when we were presented with the bill I should have refused it. After over 40 years we will not be returning. Very sad.
