We had our Christmas dinner here and it was amazing. Great food and atmosphere!
We did a call in order and had requested extra gravy. We got home and Sylvia called to apologize for not including extra gravy. We thought that was awesome of Sylvia. We had plenty of gravy btw
We had a server named Mari that was AMAZING we come here every sunday to eat the buffet after church and it's always great! But Miss Mari really made the experience this time today with her great attitude and prompt service!
This is the first time we have eaten out for Christmas dinner. It was the most wonderful thing. The buffet served traditional turkey and dressing, as well as prime rib, ham shrimp, and more. The dessert list and coffee we superb. This in its self is great....but the owner/manager walked around visiting with the dinners wishing them a Merry Christmas.
Me and my husband had the T-bone steaks medium rare it was really delicious hands down one of the best steaks I had in a while hands up to the cook
The Mexican food was excellent and served with a smile! The peach cobbler and ice cream was homemade and the best I've had in a long time. The chef actually made rounds to visit with every customer and was extremely pleasant. I look forward to returning in the near future
Came in for the Sunday buffet, was a bit worried from reading other reviews but my family and I really enjoyed it. The fish, bbq and salad bar really stood out in a good way. The peach cobbler is my favorite 🤩 shabby at all Waitstaff was great and they had lots of kid friendly options as well. Considering it was buffet and right before they closed it wasn’t too
Excellent food and service. We had a large group and no wait on a Monday evening. Our waitress was very friendly. She comped us chips and salsa and toast with apricot dip (which was excellent.) They have large chicken fried steak. My 8 oz steak and fries were very good but the okra was mediocre. One in our group had a birthday so they gave sopapillas to everyone for dessert. They have a little bit of everything; chicken, steak, BBQ, Mexican and catfish. I had water to drink. My total was just over $14.
Super bummed. I used to come in to get their HUGE chicken fried steak, which would cover most of the plate. It was always impressive. Well I haven't been there in years. Came back just for that and it was maybe 1/3 of what it used to be. And although it looked beautiful. For some reason it tasted burnt. Really sad. I'm hoping it's just a bad day. I'll try it again one more time to give them the benefit of the doubt. But I'm not holding my breath.
Had the combination platter. The ribs were good, tender but not falling off the bone. The beef was not served like classic brisket but in 1 to 1.5 cubes. There were easy to break up with a fork and tasted good but a little dry without adding bbq sauce. The sausage was also served in chunks it was well cooked and delicious. The potato salad was mustard based and also very well done but I like to have chunks of potato in mine and theirs unlike the meat had none just a fairly smooth almost like mashed potatoes consistently. The onion rings were fantastic. I'd go back and try something else from their menu they obviously know how to serve a good meal their meat presentation is just not exactly my cup of tea.
We chose the buffet as the choices sounded pretty good. How can you screw up ribs and sausage? Well, it was some of the worst food I’ve put in my mouth in the last few years and we told them it sucked. No discount, nothing taken off the ticket. Just a huge waste of money.
I don’t usually get angry when I eat—even when the food is bad. I’ll suffer through it, crack a joke, and move on with my life. But this absolute dumpster fire of a BBQ joint? This place had me clenching my fists like I was about to go 12 rounds with a plate of disappointment. Let’s set the scene. I roll into Borger, Texas—a state where BBQ is supposed to be sacred, like Texas football. So I asked around—talked to the locals, talk to my refinery buddies, and say, "Hey, where’s the best BBQ in town?" And without missing a beat, every single one of them goes, "Nowhere. BBQ here sucks." That should have been my sign. I should have listened. But nope! Like an idiot, I pull up Google and type in "BBQ near me", and this place pops up. Sutphen’s BBQ Bar & Grill. Outside? Looks legit. Smokey vibes, rustic signage, all the visual cues of a place that knows how to burn meat the right way. I step inside—kind of empty. But hey, that could just mean I beat the dinner rush, right? Wrong. I get the menu, and that’s when the alarms start blaring in my head. BBQ, Mexican food, burgers, seafood, a chicken section, a steak section?? What is this, a Denny’s that went through an identity crisis? I’m on the phone with my wife, scanning this trainwreck of a menu, and even she calls it. "That BBQ is gonna suck. Their menu’s too big. They don’t specialize." But I’m hard-headed. I don’t listen. I order the combination plate—because if you’re gonna judge a BBQ joint, you judge them on their holy trinity: ribs, brisket, sausage. The plate also came with beans, coleslaw, potato salad, and onion rings. I even throw in some mozzarella sticks because at this point, why not. Now, let’s talk about the wait time. BBQ should be ready to go. It’s not a cooked-to-order meal, it’s smoked for hours and then plated up FAST. But these guys? 15 minutes. What the hell were they doing back there? Plucking the cow? Finally, I get my plate. And I nearly lost my mind. THE BRISKET. Two—TWO—tiny cubes. Tiny. My jalapeño was bigger than the brisket portion! This is TEXAS, people. This should be a crime! The flavor? Barely existent. What little taste it did have? Artificial. Like someone spritzed it with Liquid Smoke and called it a day. THE SAUSAGE Absolutely disgusting. Mushy, like it was made from the parts of the pig no one talks about. The smoke flavor? Weird. Not mesquite, not pecan—honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if it was flavored with burnt shoe leather and broken dreams. THE RIB. One sad, skinny, meatless bone. Dry as a West Texas summer, no bark, no smoke ring, no soul. Like they just left it in the desert overnight and hoped the wind would season it. THE SIDES Beans? Fine. (Mostly because at that point, I needed something edible.) Potato salad? Straight-up mayonnaise soup, wet, too much mayo, chunky, no mustard tang. If your doing Texas BBQ, mustard tang is a must! Onion rings? So soggy they looked depressed. I tossed them. Mozzarella sticks? Surprisingly fine, but if the best thing in your BBQ joint is the mozzarella sticks, you need to shut it down. At this point, I’m so mad, I don’t ever want to bother with the rest of the menu. I’m done. And that’s the thing—this place needs to STOP pretending to do BBQ. This is Texas, and you served me tiny brisket cubes, a dry meatless rib bone, and what I can only assume was sausage made from the mistakes of humanity. If you’re looking for BBQ, don’t come here. Don’t even come to Borger. Find a cow, apologize to it for what happened here, and eat your own shoe. It’ll have more flavor. I payed 36$ for this straight-up BS! 1 star. Because I can’t give zero.
Just don’t go… it’s terrible food, terrible service, and the atmosphere is not great. If you go on Sunday just know there is only a buffet of random gross food available, you can not order from the menu. The waitress never refilled our drinks. I know there aren’t a lot of choices in Borger, especially on Sunday… but I’d rather go to Taco Bell or McDs than to go here again.
My parents and I came here today & we were really excited to eat some bbq. Unfortunately this was the worst food any of us have ever ate. There wasn’t much BBQ to even choose from, mainly mexican food. if we wanted mexican food we would’ve went to plaza. I guess on sundays they don’t even give out menus, just the buffet. 0/10. i don’t recommend this place to anyone. we will never return. service sucked as well, the “waitress” never checked on us and never refilled our drinks. terrible place.
Got a pick up order for 2 ribeyes, there was supposed to be 2 sides with each one, they forgot to put the baked potato in one, the steaks were nothing but pure fat. Tried calling to tell them how unhappy I was about the food and that I was missing some of my order, the young lady said, oh I'm sorry you can come back and get the potato....no no I won't. I paid 54.00 for this joke of a meal and didn't get it all, I worked an 11 hour shift, live in Bunavista, i shouldn't have to use my gas to get what you screwed up! The steak was basically a 12 ounce piece of fat, and all I got was oh I'm sorry. Well lesson learned I won't go back.
Ate here with a party of 3, ordered the Combo Appetizer which per the menu states it comes with Mozzarella Cheese Sticks and Fried Zucchini. The appetizer comes out and its fried jalapenos, fried pickles and onion rings. When I asked the waitress about it, she had to "go ask" then came back saying "what we got is what the combo appetizer comes with". I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and my CFS was burnt black on one side. The waitress seemed new but was very polite. Even when the manager(?) got on to her in front of us for sweeping the other part of the room as a part of her nightly closing duties. I do not recommend eating at this place unless you are just starving and want to spend $60 or more.
3 of us for dinner and appetizer of nachos. 13 nachos on the plate for $13(not worth it). Asked for my steak to be medium, came out extremely well done. Waited forever for our food and there was only people at 3 other tables. Not worth the $100 bill. Will definitely not go back! Horrible!
The only good thing about the food was the pickles and onions and toast the brisket was dry and flavorless and the ribs had no flavor the beef chunks were dry the sausage was ok but even that was greasy. My husband work at the prison for over 20 years and said the food out there was better then tonight. Will definitely NOT be returning.
This was one of the most depressing restaurants I’ve ever been in. You walk in the door and I immediately wanted to leave but it was the only place still open that advertised “BBQ” - and hubs was fresh off work and just wanted to eat. The whole atmosphere is of a place where they know it sucks but just don’t care enough to change anything. The menu is way too big for somewhere like this and it shows in the food quality. I ordered the basket of ribs and husband ordered the T-bone medium well - when they eventually made it out of the kitchen none of it looked good but still decided to give it a chance and I wish I could take back that first taste. Ribs had absolutely no flavor except on top with whatever rub or sauce they managed and the fries weren’t even good! Idk how you can mess up fries but they did it. The Tbone had to be sent back bc it was like that just barely kissed it on the flattop before bringing it out and even after that it wasn’t done but we just wanted to try and eat and get out of there. None of the sides were any better for him and our total was $50 which is outright criminal. Don’t waste your money because you would cook anything else better in a hotel room microwave.
Wanted BBQ and came here. 2 other couples came in after us and they got food first. Ribs are dry and over cooked, coleslaw has no flavor, potato salad had a brown color, was able to squeeze oil from onion rings. The waitress was nice and tried her best. Not sure how the other food tastes but I would not order anything BBQ.
