If I had to become a regular anywhere, this would be my pick. You can tell how impressive this restaurant is by the way they execute American cuisine—which, as you know, is usually my least favorite. But they absolutely nailed it. I was genuinely so pleased with everything. The farm chicken with the onion rings were standouts. Crispy, perfectly fried. The beef steak sandwich looked incredible, but I was way too full to even take a bite—so I’ll definitely be back and will keep you posted. The beef carpaccio was delicious, and while the mushrooms pasta were slightly salty, the creamy, flavorful sauce paired perfectly with the sweet potato bun. (This is their restaurant week menu!) And let me just say—the desserts are a must. You have to get the apple pie. It was amazing, especially with the hint of balsamic vinegar and Parmesan—holy moly!! The chocolate cake came with a woodside-flavored ice cream that I had never tried before, and I absolutely fell in love. The back room is stunning, and the service is easily the kind to deserve 30% tip—attentive, polished, and welcoming. This is also an amazing spot to bring your partner to meet the family!
First off; special shout outs to Kamor and Morgan for exceptional service and for an exquisite experience. My daughter brother and I went out for my brothers birthday and had a phenomenal time. Thank you to the whole staff for their fluidity and expertise on every single dish that was presented. We shall return soon
I’ve been wanting to try Gramercy Tavern for a while, and it didn’t disappoint. The space is beautiful—big but warm, with a great vibe that makes it feel both lively and welcoming. Service throughout was friendly, personable, and exactly what you’d expect from a restaurant of this caliber. I went with the tasting menu, which was excellent and very seasonal. Each course came with two options, and there were some tough choices to make. The meal started strong with an amuse-bouche of oysters that were outstanding and set high expectations for the rest of the night. The beets I had as a starter were delicious and perfectly in season, and the hay-smoked gnocchi was another standout—rich, earthy, and full of flavor. The lamb was also excellent, though my portion had a bit more bone than I would’ve liked. Dessert brought things full circle with a hazelnut tart in a Concord grape sauce that was both seasonal and beautifully balanced. Overall, an outstanding dinner and a place I’d happily return to!
Came here by myself Friendly staff and great food! As a Chinese I usually don’t like American style food But the chief here made a good balance! I completely finished all the dishes Only sauce for the fish is still a little creamy for me but the fish itself is not greasy at all. Love here
“One of the best burgers in NYC — easily.” Both my wife and I ordered the burger and we were extremely happy with it. It comes with an aioli sauce that makes the whole combination absolutely unmatched. Juicy, flavorful, and perfectly put together. The restaurant itself is beautiful and has a great atmosphere. It’s really hard to get a reservation, but you can walk in and sit at the bar — we waited about 30 minutes for a spot. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be coming back.
Gramercy Tavern offers an exceptional dining experience with warm hospitality and beautifully crafted dishes. Seasonal ingredients shine in every course, and the cozy yet refined atmosphere makes it feel special without being stuffy. A true NYC classic worth savoring.
Absolutely lovely lunch during the Winter Restaurant Week! Food was spot on, especially for the special price of $60 for three-course lunch during the restaurant week. While the place is busy, it's a very calming atmosphere, much thanks to the great and relaxed service by the staff.
Really lovely place to dine! Food is delicious and staff is amazing. Host staff is one of the best in the city! The burger is divine, but don’t miss out on the seasonal pastas either! And you can’t miss the chocolate chip cookie with milk. They have a coat check as well which is really nice. Would definitely recommend you have a reservation or look for seating at the bar.
Excellent dinner from start to finish. The seasonal menu was thoughtful and well executed, with great balance and high-quality ingredients. The lamb main was cooked perfectly and full of flavor, and the overall pacing of the meal felt just right. Desserts were refined and not overly sweet. Professional service and a relaxed, elegant atmosphere. Would definitely return.
From start to finish, this was the best dining experience my now wife and I have ever had. We’re on our honeymoon, and having each worked over a decade in hospitality, this being our first Michelin-star experience set the bar impossibly high. Our server Michael was exceptional—warm, personable, and spot-on with both dinner and drink recommendations and suggestions for a perfect nightcap afterward. Luka paired wines beautifully with our mid course and mains, elevating each course effortlessly. Chef Michael even came out to chat with us about the industry and mutual connections back home, and surprised us with a lobster and truffle bite that was nothing short of incredible.Every single dish was sublime. The dirty martini (with pickle brine) was the best we’ve ever had. Even their simple red pepper and cashew starter was just shockingly good, and the seafood platter was absolutely worth it. From the yellowtail to the gnocchi and squid ink caramelle, every course hit. The pork loin and belly and the sirloin were both outstanding. Dessert sealed the night—the cherry chocolate dessert, followed by little chocolates to finish with a hummingbird cake. They even sent us off with something special to enjoy the next morning, which we can’t wait to enjoy.Flawless hospitality, thoughtful touches, and unforgettable food. An experience we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.
Thank you for an extraordinary Christmas lunch at our favourite go-to NYC restaurant. Everything was perfect - the food, the ambiance, the service. Special thanks to our server, Nicole, who made the experience so splendid for us. This was a trip to celebrate the end of chemo treatments for my husband and we are so grateful for this wonderful time.
Came for my dad’s bday (first time in NYC) and the tasting menu did not disappoint! (Dec 2025) Light was terrible for photos but we had one of each and all the dishes were tasty. Bok choy may have been the only one I’d skip going back through, gnocchi too. The squid ink caramelle was our favorite overall, and the hiramasa and skate were also top tier. Wine was nice (pricey, but enjoyable), and Mary Beth was stellar on the service.
The Dining Room is perfect for a date as it is less crowded and reservations are easier to come by. The service was impeccable, and they even let us order the famous burger and cookie from the Tarven's menu. If you want to try their famous burger but can't get a reservation for the Tarven, give their Dining Room a try! But just keep in mind that you are unlikely to be able to order anything else besides the burger and desserts from the Tarven's menu, as they try to keep the two restaurants separate. Overall, while we had a great dining experience there, the famous burger didn't live up to its hype. It's nice, but nothing special. The cookie , on the other hand, was a winner! The Hanger Steak was delicious, tender and juicy, a little on the sweeter side. The bread was also very good 😋.
Gramercy Tavern has been a New York City institution forever, and based on the service alone, it’s clear they intend to remain one until the end of time. Every interaction felt like a master class in hospitality — the kind that makes you reconsider why you ever tolerate mediocre service anywhere else. We went with the 3-course lunch, which is somehow both a deal and a feast. Pair it with the Fall Wines for maximum seasonal smugness; they matched the food beautifully and made me briefly consider becoming someone who uses the word “terroir” unironically. The butternut squash soup was very good, rich, and maybe just a touch too eager to finish — like a guest who overstays by five minutes, but you don’t mind because they brought a nice bottle of wine. The beef carpaccio was delicious, although I personally could have done without the chopped red peppers. A bold choice — not one I would’ve voted for on the committee. The pork cutlet got rave reviews from our table, but the true star was the hanger steak. Whatever temperature you think you want? Ignore yourself. Go with the chef’s recommendation. It was not only excellent — it was better than the steak we’d had at Jean-Georges the night before. Yes, that Jean-Georges. Consider this our official endorsement. Desserts were equally strong: the hazelnut tart was a standout, and the chocolate cake was also wonderful — assuming you still have the physical capacity for dessert at that point in your personal journey. Noise levels were perfectly acceptable, and the dining room struck that elusive balance of relaxing, elegant, and energetic — like a room full of people who all got a full eight hours of sleep and are proud of it. In short: Gramercy Tavern earns every bit of its reputation. Come for the service, stay for the steak, and leave wondering when you became the kind of person who raves about butternut squash soup.
Expected nothing less - excellent. We added the seafood starter to the seasonal fixed menu, which I highly recommend. I’ll be dreaming about the shrimp for weeks. I’m always an advocate of adding the wine pairing to any pre fixe menu - this was exceptional, they really hit the mark with all the pairings.
What a night! Gramercy Tavern totally crushed it. The set menu in the dining room was next-level delicious. Their Halloween game..omg. The staff went all out with amazing costumes, spooky-fun decor, and even a trick-or-treat spread. The mini cupcakes were perfect! A+ vibes, incredible food, and the kind of service that makes you want to come back again and again. Highly recommend!
We had dinner at Gramercy Tavern tonight, and it was a wonderful experience from start to finish. The atmosphere felt warm, cozy, and perfectly balanced between casual and elegant. Their wine list is outstanding—one of the most diverse and carefully curated we’ve seen in a while. We ordered a Barolo, and it completely blew us away with its depth and richness. The food was equally fantastic: I had the meatballs, and my wife had the chicken—both dishes were perfectly cooked and full of flavor. Everything tasted fresh, seasonal, and thoughtfully prepared. The service was professional yet friendly, adding to the relaxed, authentic vibe of the place. The interior design felt timeless and intimate, like a hidden gem in the middle of the city. It’s the kind of restaurant where you instantly feel at home but still treated to something special. We’ll definitely be going back soon—Gramercy Tavern truly lives up to its reputation.
We recently celebrated our wedding and reception in the private dinning room at Gramercy Tavern. The room, with its antique furniture, vegetable-themed wall décor, a serene landscape painting, and beamed ceiling, created the most enchanting setting. The in-house florist, Roberta created breathtaking arrangements that made the room feel like a fairytale. Every dish was presented artful but never ostentatious, offering beauty that flows seamlessly into flavor, and the service team was attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. Special thanks to Alison in the team who answered all my questions and requests with sincere smile. We are truly grateful to their event coordinator, Anasua, for her attentive and seamless guidance throughout our planning. Everything exceeded our expectations!! We couldn't have chosen a more perfect place to celebrate such a special day.
Phenomenal meal. Credit to our server, Emmry, who was friendly, helpful, and made our meal that much better. We were celebrating a birthday and received complimentary champagne which was such a nice touch. The food was exquisite, everything tasted fresh and was cooked to perfection. Highlights were the tomato salad, beef carpaccio, and the pork shoulder. The burger was amazing and unfortunately may be worth its price. I do wish they were served with proper fries. This restaurant definitely deserves its flowers and its legendary status.
One of my favorite restaurants in NYC. The service was warm but professional. The food was perfect. The wine pairings were to my very picky specs. The atmosphere was quiet and the tables were spaced far from each other as not to be cramped. I’ve been to most of the Michelin starred restaurants in NYC and this I put up there with Per Se, 11 Madison, Eric Ripert’s place and Masa. Love it.
Tried and true classic for a reason. Tasting menu during restaurant week was exceptional value. Warm friendly service. Exceptional cuisine. I sat in the “dining room”. Highly recommended. Great for casual upscale lunch or fancy dinner. Tavern side seems to be more walk in friendly vs Dining room which is reservation recommended. The food quality was some of the best, with the tomato salad I had being a season standout at its absolute peak produce window. Simply dressed with nothing missing or needing to be added. Delightful restaurant. Accommodative to vegan menu.
One of the better fine dining experiences I've had in NYC (18 years here). Took my mom for a celebration meal and we were blown away by the service and food. The summer seasonal menu was so fresh, unique, visually compelling dishes, and left us satisfied but not too full. We asked about Danny Meyer and we got an incredible backstory on Union Square Hospitality Group and the restaurant. We even walked out with the Playbook -- how amazing!

I’ve been to Gramercy Tavern many times in the past, and it’s usually a wonderful experience. The dining area is always lovely, though this time I was seated in a less attractive section, which was a bit disappointing. The course menu started strong — the starter was full of flavor and really enjoyable. Unfortunately, the main dishes didn’t quite meet expectations. The pork loin was overcooked and dry, and I ended up switching to the sirloin steak, which also turned out to be quite chewy. It felt like the quality of the meat just wasn’t up to their usual standard. That said, the overall experience was still great. The service was excellent and truly made up for the food missteps. I’ll definitely be back, but hoping for better luck with the mains next time.
Incredible service and vibes, but the food was a letdown. I visited on a Wednesday evening and the place was absolutely buzzing. I’d actually made a mistake with my reservation and accidentally booked the tasting menu, but I really had my heart set on the Tavern Burger. Despite it being packed, the staff was fantastic—they pivoted quickly and found me a spot at the bar so I could order from the Tavern menu. The energy here is truly infectious! Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the atmosphere. I was advised to get the burger medium-rare, but that was definitely not the move—it arrived borderline raw. If you order it, I’d strongly suggest going medium or medium-well. I also found the heavy "smoky" profile of both the aioli and the oysters to be pretty unappetizing. The saving grace was the cookie at the end. It was delicious (though very heavy!), but the malted chocolate milk it came with just tasted like regular milk. Overall, come for the service and the scene, but the kitchen was a miss for me.
We had a good meal at the bar. Excellent stuffed oysters. Good burger. Solid chicken. Incredible chocolate chip cookie. Our servers were wonderful.
The butternut squash soup and lamb sandwich was 20/10. Definitely order it if you’re here. You won’t regret it. The lamb was cooked like a smash burger. The char was perfectly matched with the sauce and slaw on a perfectly sized pita. Skip the oysters. The swordfish was good but the sauce was too runny for my liking but still good taste.
In the dining room for 3 course lunch with wine pairing. I found the service was just lacking a bit for such a fine establishment. First course was a pasta which was tasty but was let down by plate not being warmed prior to serving. The tilefish was spot on and nice and hot when served. Dessert was nice but once again let down by condensation on the plate which suggest the plate was left out in the open for a while. The wine pairing was very generic and was not tailored for the food I ordered for example, Fleurie with my fish just brought out a fishy aftertaste from an otherwise fresh piece of fish.

We had lunch at Gramercy Tavern on Sunday with a group of four, seated in the Tavern area rather than the formal dining room. The cocktails were a fantastic start—absolutely 5 out of 5. The staff was warm and attentive, and the atmosphere was lively and welcoming. The flatbread was excellent, one of the highlights of the meal. But overall, I was hoping for a bit more from the rest of the food. We tried the burger, pork shoulder, swordfish, tomato salad, and liver mousse. While some dishes were fine, the burger and pork shoulder in particular were disappointing and just didn’t hit the mark. The salad and mousse also felt a little ordinary. For a place with such a strong reputation—and at this price point—I expected the dishes to shine more. Still, the service and vibe were wonderful, which made the experience enjoyable overall. If I had to rate it: 5 stars for service and ambiance, but about 3 stars for the food, so overall a solid 3 stars.
We expected more. The salad was tasty but tiny for the price. It was salad, not caviar. The fish was very good but not exceptional. The pasta portion was enormous but devoid of delicacy. It lay hea…

The inside of the restaurant is absolutely gorgeous. They did a wonderful job with the ambiance, and I loved all the floral displays. I was very excited to come here to try the restaurant week menu. I came for a celebration, which everyone in the staff wished me well so I appreciated that. I really liked the host, but I felt like my waitress wasn’t as attentive in the beginning of my meal. There were several times I needed something but she wasn’t around. Towards the end she was better at checking up. I also read other reviews and realized they did not give me things like the crudité or the red pepper dipping sauce for the bread. I got the restaurant week three course menu. I loved the beef carpaccio. The pork cutlet wasn’t really that memorable so I wouldn’t go for it. And I asked the waitress for her recommendation for dessert and got the apricot tart which I definitely regret because I did not care for how tart/sour it was. So basically only one of the three courses I really enjoyed. I’m not sure I would go back, especially knowing they didn’t even give me the full experience by not offering me the same things they offered others in these reviews.
