From the moment we entered The Bonnefont, we were greeted with genuine warmth by René, whose gracious welcome set the tone for an exceptional dining experience. Starting at the bar with the best hot apple cider. The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between elegance and comfort. Every dish we tried was outstanding. The Lamb Shank was melt-in-your-mouth tender, rich with flavor and perfectly paired with its savory sauce. The Duck Confit impressed with its juicy meat, a flawless execution of a classic French staple. The Black Mussels came in a delicate broth that was so good, (we ordered 2 it was so good) we couldn’t resist dipping our bread to savor every drop. And the Bruschetta with Brie and Apple? Simply divine—a creative twist that showcased the chef’s skill with flavor balance and texture, also the escargot were outstanding What makes The Bonnefont even more remarkable is its incredible value. With everything on the table beloved and under $40, the quality easily rivals that of far more expensive restaurants. Combined with René’s personal touch and the attentive service, of the waiter (i forgot to ask its name) the evening felt more like dining with friends than a standard night out.

If you’re thinking of having your wedding here- DO IT!! The entire team went above and beyond - it surpassed all of our expectations, we felt incredibly taken care of which allowed us to stay completely present throughout the day which was the best wedding present we could’ve wished for. Brenda & Chris, are absolute rockstars, both so on top of it, and so kind and a pleasure to work with. Renee, kept the drinks flowing, the energy high, everyone was singing her praises! Chef Nicole in incredible, I mean we knew the food was fantastic, that was a huge reason we chose the restaurant, but WOW. Our guests are still texting us about the food! We live really close, and we feel so lucky we can come by and relive that meal. Perfect day, no notes. The photos speak for themselves!

Quaint and charming little French cafe hidden away in the Fort Tryon park. If you are planning to visit the MET cloisters, would recommend getting breakfast or brunch here and start your day. Food is good and if you get a table by the window or lil door facing the garden, you’re guaranteed to have a great time.

We recently dined at The Bonnefont and are eager to return. The owner and chef, Nicole, graciously accommodated some unexpected changes to our reservation and was really kind over the phone. The restaurant is a true gem in the neighborhood, and we look forward to dining on the patio when the weather warms up! The house wine was nice, and our entrees were delicious—no surprise, as I had previously enjoyed the cuisine at Nicole's former restaurant, The Pandering Pig. Our server, Renee, was both friendly and attentive. I'm enthusiastic about the future of this place; it seems to be finding its rhythm, and I anticipate it will only improve with the use of the patio and the full potential of its location as the weather improves.

Not being from New York, I was visiting the MET Cloisters and decided to walk the Fort Tyron trails around the MET and overlooking the Hudson when I discovered the Bonnefont. A quaint little French Cuisine Restaurant. I did not have a reservation, but as a party of one, I did get seated within a few minutes, and the waiter was very quick with a menu and water. My order of French toast and made fresh coffee was served within 10 minutes. The French toast was very good as well as the fresh coffee. I did get a coffee to go. I was in and out in 30 minutes. I'm certain a reservation would be required for a large party. Great staff and great atmosphere.

We had a wonderful dinner at this restaurant. We are locals and were so happy to try out this place as we also ate at Pandering Pig when it was open. We had the escargot, the roasted cauliflower, and then the beef bourguignon and the duck. Everything was fabulous- those entrees specifically were SO tender and delicious. Service was excellent- such a kind waitress. Only a 4/5 for at atmosphere because of the climate control on a cold night- but we’re hopeful once they figure that out this place will be the spot!

I had the pleasure of being able to dine here for their soft opening last night. The place is still a little rough around the edges as they work to get everything set up for their grand opening. The food and the service, however, is beyond stellar. Everyone was very friendly and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in! And the food! We started with the roasted pear wrapped in bacon. Perfect flavor combo. The pear slices were hot and juicy. I can't even describe how delicious the fig and olive tapenade was. Our last starter was the pate board. My fiance doesn't usually enjoy pate but I think he ended up eating more of it than I did - that's how good this plate was. We split the boeuf bourguignon. This is one of my favorite comfort foods, and chef Nicole really knocks it out of the park here. It really does taste like it's made with love. The meat falls off the bone. I could have eaten a bushel of the carrots! I failed to take photos of everything because we ate it too quickly! Oops. Next time!

My friends and I were enjoying a walk through the park and saw the restaurant was open. Renee, our server, welcomed us in and even allowed us to sit in the back patio area with our dog. The service was amazing. She was super welcoming and made us feel VIP. I got the potato leek soup and eggs benedict. Both were delicious. Great service and great food in a magical setting.

Had Sunday lunch here recently, and I was blown away! The seared salmon was on point—super tasty and cooked just right. The staff were super friendly and made me feel right at home. Plus, the live music gave the whole vibe an extra touch. Definitely recommend this spot for a great meal! Everything looked great and tasted even better.

The food and the wait staff are truly excellent! Yes the restaurant is still up and coming, but it's still charming and 100% worth it when you take so much as a single bite of the food (especially the beef bourguignon or lamb shank)--it's beyond exceptional and you get very generous portions! The staff are very accomodating and conversational too, so if there is anything you ever need, don't hesitate to ask! If you ever get a chance to speak with the chef as well, please do; she is one of the most down-to-earth people out there!

Absolutely beautiful restaurant. The food and service were incredible, and it feels like you are no longer in NYC. We went on a gorgeous summer night and sat on the patio as the fireflies came out. I tried the escargot, the mushrooms and the duck confit and they were all fantastic.

There's no down side here. Food is absolutely tasty and delicious, service is friendly and professional, and the ambiance is gorgeous! Every person there from waitress to bussing could not have been more friendly or courteous. We had brunch today and Chef Nic elevated simple dishes to extraordinarily delicious plates of food. We will be back again and again. Looking forward to working our way through the brunch and dinner menus! One more note to anyone who appreciates a truly spectacular bloody mary - don't pass it up, it's the best I've had!

The restaurant is located in the most beautiful space in NYC. Since years there was no working restaurant in this building and the city has neglected the building. The new owners ran into severe problems fixing up an historical building that was basically abandened by the city. So yes, there are upstart problems. However the food is excellent, the atmosphere at the bar is great. We love to have a drink first at the bar before dinner. Chef Nicole does not cut corners in her food. Good quality products are used. The vegetarian ( Beef) Wellington is delicious, the Potatoe Leek soup is great. We will be back there, the setting is great in Fort Tryon. Can't wait for summer when the terrace is open.

At The Bonnefont, you'll step into a cozy haven (in the heart of Fort Tryon Park) with an atmosphere that's just beautiful – the kind that makes you instantly feel at home. The servers are kind and attentive. Let's talk about the food – Owner and Chef Nicole O'Brien's creations are spectacular! You can tell every dish is made with heaps of thought, care, and with attention to detail (edible wild flowers top various dishes). So yeah, if you're up for some seriously good food in a cozy-chic setting, The Bonnefont is where it's at!

As new residents to the neighborhood (moving from downtown Manhattan)we are thrilled to have this "gem in the woods". French-Continental fare tastefully prepared and delish. Good wine prices. Lovely Art Deco decor with both indoor and outdoor seating. The only criticism is the choice of the live music - the night we came it was a was saxophone duo (too loud). Other nights there was just lovely quiet recorded jazz playing. We highly recommend this place and hope business stays strong - come to gorgeous Ft Tryon Park before you head in and bring a friend!

Had a lovely brunch at the bonnefont. My husband and I were admittedly a little hesitant given the early reviews, but it seems like they have worked out any issues they were experiencing earlier. The service was warm and welcoming. Everything we ordered was delicious. We loved the interior and they were very child friendly. So happy to have this place in the neighborhood and definitely looking forward to going back, especially when the patio opens.

Please give them a chance to work out the kinks. We were there on day 2. Some of the reviews are unnecessarily brutal. We found the service excellent. They are trying very hard. The only issue is the heat or lack thereof. That needs to get fixed for sure. The space is lovely. The food was excellent. The muscles were outstanding. The chicken dish was the star but all were very very good. We just went back for a private event (baby shower brunch). The staff was AMAZING. They were so helpful in all aspects of arranging for the event, set up, and making sure all the guests were taken care of. The brunch food was excellent, served hot, and on time as planned. Quite a feat for 40 people. Thanks so much for making this joyous event sparkle!

They seem to have ironed out the kinks, and our table of four enjoyed a lovely dinner at The Bonnefont. Chef Nicole really knows her game, and the lamb shank and duck confit were on point! The “exotic mushroom medley” was also a winner. Great old world wine selection… Renée behind the bar is a gem. Knowledgeable and attentive servers. Beautiful location with fresh flowers on tables, and I’m assuming there will be outdoor seating in the park setting when weather permits. We were there on a cold night, but the heat was on so we were cozy inside. I would absolutely return with another couple of friends or just with my sweetie for date night!

What a breath of fresh air. I do mean that somewhat literally, as the moment I exited the subway into the park on my way to The Bonnefont I inhaled the fresh spring air with delight. The lovely walk along the meandering park path to the restaurant's entrance set the tone. Entering the charming old stone house the subtle smell of the flower arrangements were immediately noticeable, but not overwhelming. A nice detail. The Bonnefont has all the things most New York restaurants lack: music at a reasonable volume, lighting that permits you to actually read the menu, and the ability to linger and enjoy yourself without the sense that you have over stayed your welcome. The menu has classics that do not disappoint—I had a nice duck confit, a delicious mushroom wellington—and I had a fantastic bottle of wine that I found to be very reasonably priced. I look forward to my next visit!

It was the first time for us in this new location, although before covid we were regulars at The Pandering Pig—the restaurant previously owned by the chef. Service was great, the ambience was lovely, and the location has been beautifully redecorated. Food was exquisite, as usual. We’ll be back for sure!

Amazing French food, loved every course. Plus it’s in a charming and gorgeous location with a staff that really cares. Loved my lamb shank and I keep thinking about the mussels I had as an appetizer. Plus the cheesecake we got for dessert was so light and flavorful, excellent way to cap an incredible culinary experience. Feels like restaurants I’ve been to in France and Napa valley. Definitely will make this my fine dining destination uptown (especially with the prices, it’s a steal).

We discovered the Executive Chef of The Bonnefont, Nicole O’Brien, several years ago when she opened The Pandering Pig and have been devoted followers ever since when she opened The Bonnefont in Ft Tryon. Most recently we celebrated our anniversary at this beautiful romantic and intimate gem of a restaurant where Nicole’s food vision continues to be extraordinary and amazing. Whether it’s the appetizers, ie Escargot, or Steamed Mussels, or Tomato Bisque, to her mouth watering entrees such as Duck Confit or the magnificent melt off the bone Beef Bourguignon, her use of spicing and flavors is a joy to the pallet. The experience should also include one of their unique desserts, the UpsideDown Cheesecake for instance. This is a place that is a fine dining experience, a place where you should never rush but you should linger and absorb a fine glass of wine and unique food in a beautiful setting and good conversation with friends or family. The current front of house staff are warm, welcoming and attentive through the entire dining experience. They are happy to make suggestions and recommendations regarding the fine wine collection and pairings with your meal. There is also beautiful bar where you can relax after your afternoon of exploring the park and enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine. The location is just lovely, nestled near the English Gardens just inside the entrance of Ft Tryon Park. In the summer, they offer outdoor seating. And as a bonus, at the base of back of the restaurant, the Bonnefont offers amazing ice cream, snacks and sandwiches during the day for a quick boost on a day when you are exploring the magnificent park. The Bonnefont is a not to be missed experience if you plan any trip to this area.

Last Sunday four of us had the most wonderful brunch at The Bonnefont. The food was excellent, the decor is both elegant and comfortable, and the music set a wonderful mood. Two of us ordered starters (Potato Leek Soup and the Housemade Pastry) which were so yummy we shared tastes all around. The entrees were delicious (Eggs Benedict, Tarragon Chicken Salad Sandwiches and an order of French Toast that was as good as my husband’s homemade…which is a great compliment!) We splurged on desserts of Crème Brulee and Chocolate Nuage (fresh from the oven and so very good), and I had a cup of brewed hot, organic black tea that was made by someone who knew how to make a cup of tea. The meals are prepared with love and care as well as expertise. We will definitely be returning!

Excellent food, wine, and service. My partner and I had each had an appetizer, salad, a main course, and dessert, and every single dish was delicious. I was hesitant to visit initially based on initial reviews, but they seemed to have worked out any initial problems. If you were a fan of the Pandering Pig I highly recommend you try The Bonnefont. I will definitely be visiting again and can’t wait to try out the patio once the weather is warmer.

Came here with a friend and I had no idea this park, let alone this beautiful, charming restaurant in it existed! You're in Manhattan, but feel like you're in a secluded upscale upstate venue. The food was absolutely delicious, especially the fig and olive tapenade and trout! Service was friendly and attentive. Check it out, you will not be disappointed!

We stopped here because it looked like a beautiful place. I had low expectations for it given that every other restaurant I’ve been to in nyc park is basically not great when it comes to food. The food was amazing. The music and decor were also very well done.

My wife and I just had sunday brunch at The Bonnefant restaurant in the cloisters. We sat in the garden terrace and enjoyed the warmth of the day at a comfortable shaded table. The staff was wonderful and attentive. We started with the brioche and butter that came with a mixed berry compote that was delicious. I chose the traditional Eggs Benedict, and my wife had the Butternut Squash Gratin. The eggs were cooked to perfection, and the hollandaise sauce was velvety yet light and delicious. (Not usually a fan of hollandaise because it can get thick and goopy but Chef Nichole is a magician in the kitchen and I've never had a bad meal so I trusted her to deliver and she did!) It comes with roasted potatoes which was a perfect pairing for the dish. My wife had the Butternut Squash Gratin and devoured it. It was delightfully rich and full of flavor. We ended the meal with our favorite upsidedown cheesecake. Always a winner! We have dinner plans for next week with my in-laws and are looking forward to returning for their dinner seating. I will try to remember to take a picture next time before cleaning my plate. Thank you Chef Nichole for a wonderful brunch.

My friend who lives in Innwood suggested we spend the morning at The Cloisters and then have lunch at this lovely restaurant. It's was perfect for us. We sat outside in the garden under beautiful trees. We split a salad which was full of arugala and fresh herbs. Then I had a frittata and my friend had an butternut squash gratin. The food was delicious, obviously made with care from fresh ingredients. The service was gracious and not rushed. It was perfect for two friends enjoying relaxed chat.

Happened to be in NY last week and dined at the Bonnefont last Thursday. Had a great time. I ate at the bar and the bartender, Rene was very attentive and professional. I had a wonderful time talking to the very nice man sitting next to me and the food was suburb, especially the duck. The building has been updated from the way it was back in its New Leaf days. The prices were very reasonable and both the house white and red wines were very good. Will go back nest time I'm in NYC

We happened upon the Bonnefont while we were visiting the Cloisters and surrounding Fort Tryon Park, and I'm so glad we did. In a cavernous old stone building near the exquisite Heather Garden (another unexpected treat at Fort Tryon Park), this low-key French restaurant was a great place to land after long explorations of the museum and park. The sweet potato gratin was perfectly prepared, delicious, and filling despite the diminutive portion, nicely balanced with a generous pour of rosé. My companion was equally pleased with his chicken salad sandwich and IPA. If you plan a trip to the Cloisters, which is amazing but their cafe perhaps not so much, we highly recommend a stop at the Bonnefont.

Came for brunch on a rainy day and it was a great experience. The menu had a nice variety of dishes with a French influence. The food is spectacular and the service greatly improved since my last visit. I feel that the ambient lighting would be more inviting if a bit dimmer and warmer - maybe with rechargeable table lights rather than candles? But it's such a nice space and they were very accommodating. Two of our party are vegan and the chef put together something not on the menu and they were thrilled. And given the quality overall, it was a great value. Several of us are already planning our return.

A magical setting, in a historic building and in a beautiful park! Kudos to the chef/chefs as the food is amazing. I've been for brunch and dinner, but not lunch. My favorites are the soups and the beef bourguignon. The chocolate cake dessert is really good, too. The decor and lighting are very stylish and make me feel relaxed when there. I absolutely love the waiters and bartenders - energetic, fun to talk to, and professional, too. I look forward to returning!

After strolling through The Met Cloisters last Sunday morning, my husband and I went to The Bonnefont for a wonderful Sunday brunch. The Bonnefont has a historic charm with the cobblestone cottage feel.  We started with great mimosas! Our server, Allen was kind and helpful making the perfect recommendations as well as giving some insight to the chef and french menu! I had the Bonnefont herbal salad and butternut squash gratin while my husband had the smoked salmon gratin.  The food was DELICIOUS and the service was warm and friendly.  If you are looking for a great brunch spot this Sunday highly recommend The Bonnefont.

My wife and I decided to have dinner here again after a previous experience which left us disappointed because of the service and wait time. This time the service could not have been better. Chef Nicole always serves the best dishes in the neighborhood. Last night, the bartender, whose name might also be Nicole and our server Ian were prompt, attentive and friendly. We were sat right away, served delicious cocktails, and our food came out without delay. What an improvement from last time! We plan on returning soon, and often!

I recently dined at this restaurant near The Cloisters and had a fantastic experience. The ambiance was cozy and inviting, and the service was friendly and attentive. The highlight of the evening was the delicious food - the dishes were cooked to perfection, and the flavors were simply unique. My bottle of Paul & Fils was perhaps the best Rosé I’ve ever had. Overall, it was a wonderful dining experience, and I can't wait to go back and try more dishes. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great meal with excellent service in a lovely setting.

First time going since it was the New Leaf. Great lunch today! Potato leek soup with a warm baguette, salmon gratin, and chocolate souffle. Great wine list, great service and the most perfect location. I was surprised how affordable it was. Looking forward to going back for dinner. Glad to see there's a kids menu so I can bring the whole family.

From the moment we first contacted The Bonnefont, we knew we had found something special. Rae, the owner, was incredibly patient, understanding, and flexible throughout the entire planning process. We especially appreciated her willingness to work with us as we navigated several changes to our guest count, menu, and even the date and location of our wedding ceremony. The outdoor area was beautifully decorated and the staff was attentive and accommodating. Our guests raved about the delicious food and the overall ambiance of the restaurant. One of the things that impressed us most about The Bonnefont was their commitment to making our wedding day perfect, no matter what challenges arose. We were also grateful for Rae's flexibility in allowing us to bring in our own musician. And when we had to make a last-minute change to our guest count, she was able to accommodate us without any hesitation. Overall, we cannot recommend The Bonnefont highly enough. They truly went above and beyond to make our wedding day everything we had ever dreamed of. If you are looking for a venue that is beautiful, accommodating, and truly cares about making your event special, then look no further than The Bonnefont.

We enjoyed an early Mother’s Day dinner on Friday evening. From the moment we walked in, the restaurant was warm, cozy, and welcoming, and the historic space was sparkling with an elegant relaxed vibe. The service was friendly, professional, prompt, and attentive. The food was delicious, the centerpiece of it all, served beautifully and without pretension. The beef was succulent and classic, the escargots were out of this world, and the vegetarian Wellington was tasty and satisfying. The uptown Manhattan was worth having a second. We were grateful to have many familiar favorites from the Pandering Pig, as well as an array of new and enticing delicacies to choose from. This place is a treasure; it is so wonderful to have an option in the neighborhood that is fancy enough for celebrating a special occasion, yet a good enough value for when you just want to treat yourself for no particular reason. We are so glad The Bonnefont is finally launched and up on its feet — we will be back!

Visited on an uncharacteristically warm early spring day. While likely a bit understaffed and perhaps not fully prepared for the volume of guests. The servers were lovely, the food excellent, menu offering diverse and exciting all in a charming clean building. Congratulations to the new business here. Highly recommend.

My husband and I visited The Bonnefont last night and absolutely loved it. We had the mushroom medley and asked for bread to soak up the amazing sauce. The Lamb Shank and Coq Au Vin were also spectacular. Don't skip out on dessert. The upside cheesecake and creme brulee were the perfect ending to an amazing night.

As a culinary school graduate I can confirm they doo all the brunch basics at the highest level. A good wine selection. The potato leek soup was excellent. I did enjoy their chicken tarragon sandwich. My friends each were happy with the French toast and egg dishes.

Having enjoyed several meals at the owners' previous restaurant, we were pleased to find that the food and ambience was as good as ever and that several tables were occupied on a Saturday evening. I had the duck confit with brandied cherries and yukons t and my husband had a generous portion of the fish of the day (flounder) Coupled with a bottle of pinot noir, it was the perfect dinner for a chilly night. Service was prompt and attentive. We look forward to returning soon and trying some other items on the menu.

The Bonnefont, located in Fort Tryon Park, is a hidden gem. The rustic appeal of the stone cottage, mixed with modern additions, creates an unforgettable dining experience. The cuisine is thoughtfully prepared, with selections to suit any diet. This restaurant provides a wonderful setting, whether you're celebrating a special occasion or having a peaceful supper.

I originally visited Bonnefont just after it opened, for Thanksgiving. The heat wasn't working (IT WAS COLD WITH MY HEAVY SWEATER ON). The maitre d/manager was surly (and was nasty to the staff in from of the customers), I had a long wait for a table, even though I had a reservation. The food was passable. I has to ask several times for bread/rolls, water, and a napkin. I left a scathing review. I went back today. I arrived early before my reservation time. I was warmly greeted. The surly maitre d/manager was no longer working there. I was seated immediately. The staff was attentive. The whole atmosphere had changed. Food was the served the right temperature. There were napkins, water, etc. Excellent service and beautiful atmosphere. It was a good brunch . Having eaten at Michelin rated restaurants in New York and Paris, I cannot say the food was excellent, but it was VERY good. I WILL go back.

I can't imagine a more special place to have a celebratory meal or a romantic date. Stepping inside you feel like you've been transported to a French bistro tucked away in the woods. The decor, service, and food were all fantastic this past Sunday for brunch. We were treated like special guests by Rene and our server. Eggs Benedict with smoked salmon were perfect, French toast served with berries delicious. Can't wait to go back.

My friend and I stumbled upon this place one evening. When we got there they told us the kitchen had just closed because it was a slower night but they decided to open the kitchen back up just for us. The ambiance of the restaurant is amazing. Super relaxing and romantic. The food is delicious. We ordered the escargot, goat cheese and olive tapenade, and mushroom medley, coq au vin, beouf bergunion. I highly recommend this place for its amazing food and service. Will definitely visit again!

We decided to hold a Celebration of Life for our mother at The Bonnefont given its gorgeous location near the Cloisters, reputation for good food and ideal inside spaces. Everything surpassed our expectations. We had more than 50 folks there and literally everyone commented on how perfect the day went. The staff was on it from the first moment--moving furniture to accomodate our needs, setting things up just right, having the food and wine at the ready. We had a buffet style luncheon and it was all fresh, folks went back for seconds, and the desserts brought it home. The location is gorgeous and the space works beautifully with wine served in the lounge area and the dining and memories shared in the dining space. It was a tremendous success and highly recommend The Bonnefont as an ideal event space.

We celebrated our anniversary there, and it exceeded expectations. The escargot and tomato bisque starters set the tone, followed by the mouthwatering beef bourguignon. Dessert was a treat: an upside-down cheesecake that was delicious. The staff's friendliness and the park's beauty made the visit unforgettable.

We showed up at 3:15 right before the kitchen closed. The matire d took personal care of us to make sure we got our full meal. She gave us extra champaign when our desert arrived late, even though it was obviously because we disrupted the kitchen. We felt welcom, un-rushed, and the food was delicious! Highly recommend!

Super tasty food, beautiful environment, my date and I had the roasted butternut squash the burata ,salad and potato leak soup. Burata was not as soft as I had expected. The salad was the least enjoyable thing. The sunflower seeds tasted stale. Really loved the squash and cherries? You really feel as if you are a million miles from NYC and that’s great. The upside down cheesecake I shared, and it was delicious. I hope more and more people will start to patronize this excellent restaurant uptown and I hope they add a few more vegetarian options.

Handsome place. Food was very good and not exorbitantly priced. Our waiter was superb - professional, gracious and responsive. However…we hope that the heating situation will be rectified SOON. Multiple space heaters were employed but the dining room was quite chilly. Will be great in warm weather.

The food was as amazing as expected from the previous owners of The Pandering Pig. As neighborhood locals we’ve been excited to get a restaurant back in Ft. Tryon Park and to try this. Everything we tried (poached pears, cauliflower salad, beef tenderloin, duck confit, poulet sonoma, honey cheesecake) were all complex, cohesive, and scrumptious. All of our plates were cleared and we can’t wait until the weather is good enough to have dinner and drinks on the patio surrounded by our beautiful park. They’re still working out some new opening kinks, but we can’t wait to return for lunch or dinner again! It’s hands down the best food you’ll get in the city for such an affordable price point.

I’m updating my review after a second visit. A friend and I went for dinner after hearing that the heat had been restored, the obnoxious manager fired, and the restaurant was staffed up. After a moment of initial confusion about seating us in the dining room, we were comfortably accommodated. Some of the dishes we tried to order were already sold out at 7 PM, but we were able to make substitutions. We enjoyed the pate board, the Coq au vin and the Poulet Sonoma. We tried two red wines, and found the house wine to be excellent. I do wish that there were more vegetable sides available to go with the main dishes. It’s pricey but the food is excellent, and we received friendly service. Definitely will return.

Gave the food and service 5 stars because the food and service were excellent. Yes, the building was a little cold. But we knew it would be because the staff informed us in advance. We had a variety of dishes, all wonderful. Our reservation had been lost due to system issues but the staff accommodated us and took great care to ensure we had an excellent time. Very memorable and I hope to return.

Just steps from The Met Cloisters, The Bonnefont offers French-inspired cuisine in a warm, inviting setting. I started with a delicious fig and olive tapenade with goat cheese, though the escargot, served cooler than expected, lacked the garlic punch I’d hoped for. The Boeuf Bourguignon, paired with creamy garlic mashed potatoes, was rich and flavorful but slightly marred by excess fat. The standout, however, was the impeccable service and cozy decor, creating a welcoming atmosphere. A must-visit near The Cloisters—just be sure to book ahead!

We were pleasantly surprised and pleased to find that this restaurant had opened. We stopped in on a rainy afternoon for lunch and enjoyed the tarragon chicken salad and the choice of music. It’s nice to have a restaurant near the Cloisters again.

We dined here twice now. Brunch and just recently, four of us for dinner. The food is very good. The service is a bit off… When we were there for Brunch we were four people. We ordered four coffees after we finished our meal. We were brought four full sized French presses. Enough for 12 people! Also. It was not hot and rather weak. Please get an espresso machine! We will be so happy! And probably stop in more often for a coffee after our daily strolls in the park. When we were there for dinner it was a very warm evening so we sat outside on the patio as their dining room has no air conditioning. We did not want cocktails but said we wanted wine with dinner. As Much as the server wanted to sell us cocktails. She asked more than twice. We ordered our entrees and a bottle of white wine. Well before our entrees arrived the hostess who is very nice and attentive, opened the wine and after I had the customary taste (the label was never presented) she immediately heavily poured all four of our glasses and just about emptied the whole bottle. She walked away with an inch of wine still in the bottle as opposed to placing the not yet poured bottle in a cooler for us to have less generous pours with our main courses. I watched my glass collect condensation and wished our dinners to arrive as the wine would be tepid in minutes. Other than the poor bar/coffee service the food is very very good: the trout, the fowl, and the duck were sublime. Brunch equally fine. A summer menu would be nice. Boeuf Bourguignon, as much as I LOVE IT, is a bit heavy for the warmer months. I think a separate menu for dessert is a better option than resubmitting the full menu which is a tad large in size. One other note on the menu PLEASE TAKE OFF the offer for bug spray. It has no place on a menu! Additionally if you offer it, it should complimentary.

I truly hope they work the kinks out. I know it takes a while for a restaurant to get into a groove. The food in general was very good. I pointed out to the owner and chef that the scallop dish was good, but it was put on a tiny smear of yam puree. It should have been served as an appetizer or there should have been more puree. I think the chef, who I asked to speak to, thought I was asking for more scallops ("Do you know how expensive they are?). That wasn't my point. I went with a group of 7 the night before the opening. They had no drink menus created and basically only had some wine, and vodka. I'm hoping that's been rectified. I found that strange since they had been open for a while. I also found the owner, although he came over and spoke with us, more interested in schmoozing with this friends at the bar. We also, after spending a lot of money, got no goodbye, or hope you come back. We were totally ignored. I also don't understand what's going on with the heat. I don't know whether it's broken or they just didn't have it on. This was never an issue when it was New Leaf, when I went in the winter. I'm only writing this as constructive criticism. It's such a great location, with a lot of amazing history and memories. I hope they succeed!!

The food was so incredible, that I almost did not want to leave a review but the service was just so terrible. The staff was yelling at each other over tables, and chatting about how to organize tables very loudly. Our server took forever to attend to us even with only two parties in the restaurant. Atmosphere is beautiful but lights kept flickering… Service ruined it

A beautiful setting and lovely rustic interior. The food was top notch at our brunch: wonderful herby green salad, unbelievable smoked salmon gratin, chocolate nuage (a sort of molten cake). The waitress was just lovely, knowledgeable and gracious (the hostess, not so much.) But! We asked for a shim for the table which was a bit wobbly--it didn't arrive. We waited a long time for our drinks, tho the place was not full, and then these came after our starters were served. One person's French press tea was lukewarm and she sent it back--then it came nicely steaming. One person's sandwich was billed on the menu as being on a baguette, which she loves--but it arrived without prior warning on sliced bread. Finally the bill came--we were charged for the mimosas which were part of the prix fixe. What a shame as the food was so good!

So we were very excited to try this restaurant fit the first time. We are new in the neighborhood and been waiting to be wined and dined and have a wonderful dining experience. Fist the positives of the evening. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good. My complaint is the waitstaff need to be trained better. Our waitress was nice but not around when we needed her. When given bread we should have bread plates. When ordering drinks the should be poured for us. When ordering soup we shouldn’t have to ask for a spoon it should already be there for us. We ordered mussels and had no bowl to dump the shells. These things might seem trivial , but if you are going to charge higher prices and give a fine dining experience the attention to detail makes the experience as a customer more enjoyable! I didn’t go out to diner for a meal and expected more during the service. There are lots of kinks to workout if the Bonnetfont wants to be successful and stick around for awhile. As of now I could never recommend this establishment to anyone. I’m hopeful with more training the staff can be much better servers and be more attentive to their customers. Hope this can help make the Bonnetfont a more overall dining experience to their customers.

We ate here on a beautiful early summer evening. They were extremely slow to seat us outside, apparently because they were understaffed. This would be a great place to eat, if only the food was half as good as the location.

I've been wanting to go here for many years as I've seen it the first time I visited the Cloisters 7 years ago. Super cute venue and location in the park. That being said ... After being sat we were ignored (wasn't busy) and I had to ask for menus twice where I was told they ran out of menus (wasn't busy). The food itself was o...k...but for that price I truly believe it should have been better as well as better presented. An entire meal in a bowl? I don't think so (look at pics). When I asked for the check out waiter was in such a rush that he hit one of our cups with the check clip and almost knocked over one of our cups. I don't want to say too much but I'm known for being brutally honest on my reviews and that's all I felt.

Beautiful location. Food was subpar, small portions for brunch. Waited forever to get served. Waiter was clueless. The bathroom is beautiful though, quite large with tiled walls and a lovely window looking out into the trees. Maybe I'll get a glass of wine or a beer next time and skip the disappointing meal.

Came with a party at five for a Valentine’s Day prix fixe dinner. You would think with a fixed menu the food would be executed and served perfectly, but that was not the case. The service was horrible, from waiting to get a glass of water or the glass of champagne that was included to taking our order, forgetting our drink orders, to receiving our order, cold coffee, to paying the check… it all took forever. The room temp was cold and heated with space heaters. The couple that sat near us waited over two hours for their first course. We are in great company, so we had a good time. When the food itself did come, it was tasty, but the service is horrendous. I hope they can correct this so that this restaurant has a chance to succeed.

M
Mark Augustine

Guess this was a very off day for them. Must have been short staffed both front of house and kitchen. Sunday brunch. Service was slow. Food took forever and was cold when it did arrive. Except the gratin dishes which were piping hot but kinda pointless. Potato cubes and cheese stuffed in a small tureen that looks like french onion soup. (this is $22 entree???) There was supposed to be smoked salmon somewhere but we found none. So, don't get those. Staff acknowledged that there were problems and were apologetic but we could have been offered a better concession than 3 free hot chocolates.

Food is delicious. We came for a soft opening. No heat and no good service from owner or his wait staff. I find this extremely disappointing. I even overheard him talking down to the wait staff, she was the only one. We wanted dessert 🧁 and he brought the check. No one ever said hi or thank you.

I have tried to eat here 4 different times. The first time they didn’t have heat and used space heaters which was not great. They didn’t have several things on the menu. 2nd time we just showed up but they had a special event. The third time they cancelled our reservation and asked us to come the next day….which we couldn’t. Today we showed up at 4:40 for a 5 pm dinner reservation and they would not let us in to get a drink before 5. Their hours today were 11-9 but failed to mention they would lock us out at some point. I want to love this place but it is becoming more and more problematic each time. The food we did eat that one time was good. Apparently they still have issues with service.

S
Sally Riddles

We ate here last night (6/27) with 7 family members and we were so disappointed. The food was delicious - but we were served at different times, didn't have silverware, no refills on wine or water - no attention whatsoever from the wait staff until we flagged them down. They have an opportunity to have something very special in this gorgeous location and I can't imagine they can succeed with the front of the house as it is. The chef is fantastic, but the service is terribly flawed.

M
Mary Farmer

We walked there a long way way on a stormy night and arrived at 8:30. The signs and google said they were open until 9 pm but they would not seat us. The Hostess was rude. They don't have air conditioning. We were upset and rejected and will not be back

D

Is the food wonderful? Yes. Is the atmosphere charming? Overall, yes. How’s the service? Interminable! To say that this place is mismanaged would suggest that there is any sort of management strategy to begin with. It is utter chaos. The waitstaff are very well-meaning, but our dinner took over 3 hours from beginning to end, with countless promises of “your next course is coming.” Despite the very good food (and it really is delicious), I will never go back. In my 25 years of living here, I’ve never had a worse dining experience.

Daniel Venegas

Upon entering I asked if I could sit at the bar. The waitress with orange hair said, “that’s at the bartender’s discretion”. I guess they are picking and choosing who can be allowed to sit for a drink. The bartender, the only person with a nice attitude, said it was ok for us to sit. Another person walked in with their mom for a Mother’s Day dinner. they hadn’t made a reservation so they weren’t seated. Understandable, except the restaurant was totally empty and they also mentioned they didn’t have enough food which I found odd. It was all a bit messy and surprising for a place that’s been open for more than a year.

L
Leslie Spitzer

Hate so much to do this because I want what could be a great local business to succeed, but had such a disheartening, disappointing, and aggravating experience at the Bonnefont today. Be warned if you have Mother’s Day brunch reservations there because they clearly cannot handle being even a bit busy, which is how I’d describe them today when my family and I were there for brunch. Not a hostess in sight, not a manager in sight. Never even knew who our server was. We were there for about half an hour (had a reservation for 6 people) and all we got was water that we had to get up and ask for after our empty glasses sat on the table for at least 20 minutes. No one ever came to take our order and after our confidence sunk so low in them ( a woman at a neighboring table got up at least twice to find out why her food was still missing as the rest of her party ate) we decided to leave - no one batted an eye, even though the bartender who we’d spoken to and told us she’d be out in two minutes to take our order (didn’t happen), was standing and chatting with another table beside us who’d been seated after we had, was right there and could’ve apologized or something…This is also the shortened version of what went wrong there…Truly HORRIBLE restaurant experience. Will NEVER go back Edited to add that the last couple lines of my review were probably over the top, but for the chef/owner to respond “thanks” presumably to my saying I’ll never go back, is heartless and adds insult to injury after already being ignored at her restaurant. The staff that we did interact with was nice, but there just was no service to speak of. If I felt there were anyone to speak to in person about this, I’d have chosen to do so. Truly sad and hurtful.

Restaurant with no heat in winter and no wine list. Clearly not ready for business. If you enjoy eating with your coat, scarf and hat on, this place is for you, but the cold will get you from your feet up. When we arrived, the staff mumbled something about "ConEdison being difficult" as if this were a temporary issue, but it clearly wasn't, based on what I see now in other reviews. Aside from frozen feet, what really dismayed us was the absence of a wine list and the shady exchanges we had with the waitress about what we ordered and what we got to drink. No price list, no indication of origin of the wine, no information about the year, all of which for us matters a great deal because we rarely drink and this was a special occasion for us. We ordered a pinot noir which based on the "curated by the owner" bottles on display in some corner of the restaurant should have been a Burgundy but what we tasted (to the extent that we could tell given the fact that the wine was ice-cold) was most likely some much cheaper blend. (The waitress was vague about which wine was by the glass or by the bottle. We ordered something by the glass but later heard the waitress for the table near us saying that this wine was by the bottle only. Our waitress told us later that this "policy" had changed just after she had taken our order.) So not sure what was going there, but when you serve dishes in the $30-40 range, you must have a proper wine list and they must be serve at the proper temperature. The food was indeed good although the boeuf bourguignon which should be a hearty wine stew was in fact a braised rib with a completely different texture of meat (very gelatinous, which I don't care for). The braised cauliflower salad with melted Gruyere was excellent. We had ordered it to share, the waitress told us that she would be right back and bring us 2 plates but she never did, so that was also a bit weird and some vinaigrette got onto the table cloth. We decided to cut our losses and skip dessert. Eating at a restaurant should be more than just about the food. We came out of there feeling truly dispirited by the whole experience and here I am writing about it several days later during a bout of insomnia. I have since then learned from other reviewers that this restaurant opened recently and it is clear that they are not ready yet. Just the heating issue is surreal - at least have proper portable heating devices to actually raise the temperature of this cavernous space. Have carpeting under tables. Or wait until the spring, get your business going and then make the proper investment for repairs or upgrade.

A restaurant that simply does not function. A 90 minute wait WITH a reservation. Appallingly bad. Why anyone would subject themselves to this disaster is beyond me. Maybe in the Midwest this level of ineptitude could pass as a restaurant, but here it’s just a place to avoid at all costs. The owner thrashing around angry. Not enough clean glasses for a table of four. It’s incredible that a place this bad can exist. If you go, it’s your own fault when it’s a horrendous waste of your time and money. This place needs to shut down and let a restaurant that functions take its space.

If you like waiting over an hour for food that waiters can’t identify, this is the place for you! Made reservations beforehand for a party of 6 for Sunday brunch. Despite the limited menu and no one in our party having any restrictions or special requests, it still took over an hour to get our food and everyone who came in after us was served before us. When our food did arrive, the server was unable to identify if it was salmon or butternut squash gratin- a kind of important distinction. He called over another server who inspected it and confidently declared it to be the salmon. I took one bite and it was not what they’d said. Instead of responding professionally, the server told me to just switch with someone else. The salmon turned out to be almost inedibly salty and others at the table had extremely tiny portions for the price. They seemed to have plenty of staff, so I don’t know what the problem was. The space was beautiful, I’ll give them that, but I’d never eat here again.

I informed the waitress of my tree nut allergy and then was promptly served a dish with pecans. How did I find out? When the potatoes crunched. In my mind this is a management problem. They need to train their employees better so that something like this doesn't ever happen again.

Be aware - from the experience I had, this is not a functioning restaurant. At minimum, a restaurant would facilitate an experience centered around food. We went potentially expecting some growing pains knowing this place has been only open a few months and after seeing the negative reviews. But, we are very patient and understanding and have worked in the service industry so we gave it a shot. After a long-ish wait for our appetizers, the next course (soup and salad) still hadn't arrived for 2 hours. I checked in at 1 hour, then again at 1.5 hours. We were eventually just too hungry had to leave. Other tables were also waiting a super long time, but we felt extra slighted when everyone who arrived after us was served before us. It's very apparent that there is no management happening. Staff seemed nice then frazzled then surprised that 2 hours was too long. Not their fault if there are no systems in place. It was disappointing because it's a cool space but you just aren't guaranteed a meal here.

It breaks my heart because my husband and I were big fans of the Pandering Pig. We went on the night of their grand opening. The restaurant was cold. The service was slow and we were the third couple inside. It took them a long time for us to just get water. There were no drinks menu so we just chose their house wine. The appetizers were fine. Our entrées were about the size of the appetizers, we were expecting more, especially for the price that we paid. The food was salty and the service was mediocre. Unfortunately we purchased a gift card before the restaurant opening (to gift to our family, which now we can’t do. Since our experience was not great) it’s now wasted so I hope in the next few months they get better. I even sent them an email, telling them our experience and hoping to get a response from them especially since I asked for a refund on the gift card. I would’ve accepted a response like “sorry all gift cards Sales are final”, but I got nothing and I feel like they should’ve just said something to us. Do they even care? Personally, I don’t wanna come back. See you in a few months I guess.

We were so excited to finally try this place after driving past it so many times — it was a last-minute dinner date with my partner, and we were genuinely looking forward to it. But honestly, the experience was disappointing and unsanitary. When we arrived, we noticed a dog roaming freely inside the restaurant. It seemed like the dog belonged to the restaurant, which was confusing — especially since it was actively chasing rats outside in the seating area. The outdoor section is right in the middle of a park, so we tried to understand the reasoning… but then we saw a mouse crawling inside the restaurant near the dining area. At that point, it was just unacceptable. I understand the location presents challenges, but that doesn’t excuse the sheer number of rodents we saw or the fact that there’s a loose dog inside a place that serves food. These aren’t small issues — they’re health code concerns, and it blows my mind that no one else is mentioning this in the reviews. It made us question how often this happens and what the overall standards are. On top of all that, the food was just mid — nothing memorable, especially given the environment. We won’t be coming back, and I honestly wouldn’t recommend it until they address the sanitation and pest control issues seriously.

Came here with my partner for lunch after visiting the Cloisters and we were seated outside on the patio. The restaurant itself is beautiful and the waitress we had was nice, but the overall service was disappointing. I ordered a crepe, and my partner ordered the potato leek soup and an eggs benedict. We waited one hour for our food before we decided that we were too hungry to continue waiting and decided to leave to go somewhere else. The entire time that we were waiting, we received no communication from the staff, and we were never checked on by our waitress about the status of our food. We noticed that the other parties that were seated after us were asking about the status of their dishes, so we figured there must have been some sort of problem with the kitchen today which we understand it happens, but we would have appreciated some honest communication about the situation. This place would be great for getting drinks but I wouldn’t come here on an empty stomach.
