Stopped in for a drink at this lovely Christmas decorated bar. Would definitely come back! Clive was so nice at the bar! The espresso martini he made was delicious.
I come back to this bar time and time again because I’m a huge fan of the day bartender Clive. He is a true professional barman who always knows your name and your drink, makes you feel right at home. The food is excellent as well! Highly recommend.
Clive!! Best bartender ever!! He gave us fantastic recommendations on food...crafted excellent cocktails... he made my French martini exactly to my very specific requests!! The food was fantastic...steak frites cooked to a perfect medium rare...and the pasta dish was excellent!
First time visiting. We had the Crispy Chicken Boa buns and a salad as appetizers. Entree, I ordered the Faroe Island Salmon with chicken peas, spicy roasted red pepper tomato sauce, whipped feta yogurt, and my girlfriend ordered the tomato braised meatballs with whipped ricotta, over polenta appetizer as her entree. All very tasty!! We reserved a table in advance, which I recommend. Seated instantly. The service was excellent, very attentive. The place was packed but everything still came out fast. Even a server who wasn't ours, checked in on us a few times to see if we needed anything.
Wondered in on our first day, in New York. Clive couldn’t be more welcoming “bar is full of bloody English today” we laughed, drank and were well fed. We enjoyed the atmosphere and Irish craic so much we returned 3 times during our week. Highly recommend this lovely bar with great staff. Cheers from Robin Hood land 🍻😂
First time visiting The Independent last night and we will be back. Great location for dinner before a show. The staff amazing and attentive. All of the staff constantly observed tables when walking past to take care of patrons. There was no attituded of "that's not my job" or "that's not my station." Great team work! We enjoyed everything we ordered. The espresso fall-tini has great flavor. (Just give it a few more shakes for a better froth on top). The pull-apart brioche..sooo good! The pickle brined chicken was moist and flavorful. Love the fries. My husband enjoyed the shrimp tacos with an order of truffle fries. I also ordered the brussel sprouts. Two things, please offer as a side, b/c the appetizer portion is too big for one person. I also wish they had a bit more of a char on them. But overall we had a great experience and will recommend to our friends who frequent the city. Oh, Sierra is a great waitress!
Had an incredible time at The Independent! The atmosphere was welcoming, the drinks were spot‑on, and the service was top‑tier. Scarlett, in particular, made the night unforgettable. She was friendly, attentive, and genuinely great at what she does. Her energy and professionalism elevated the whole experience. If you’re looking for a place with great vibes and even better service, this is the place — especially with Scarlett behind the bar!
Scarlet was an incredible bartender. Super warm and friendly, and our drinks were delicious. We had the espresso martini, old fashioned, and liberty bell. The place was also super cute, and clean! Great bathrooms. 10/10 will definitely return.
Sierra was SO sweet and had great recommendations. The decor was adorable, cocktails were YUM, and food was fantastic. I had salmon and veggies (I have allergies and they cooked it to perfection, and super plain - perfect for me!) but the rest of the table adored the pull-apart bread, parmesean fries, prime rib burger, and french dip. Very well done!
My husband and I absolutely loved it! Santiago was our server, he was helpful, attentive, and gave us great recommendations. We ended up ordering one of them as an appetizer, the crispy chicken bao bun, which was delicious! For our main courses, I ordered the Faroe salmon and my husband had the burger. Overall, everything was excellent and it’s the perfect place to visit around midnight after the Broadway shows.
Thank you again so much Clive! Clive is such a wonderful bartender, gave friendly service and made delicious cocktails. He is clearly a huge asset to this establishment. It was our first time in NYC and he made our experience incredibly memorable. Not to mention this place is BEAUTIFUL. So if you want excellent service with great drinks in a lovely atmosphere, go see Clive at Indo.
Hard to find a nice setting for lunch in Midtown that's reasonably priced with good food and isn't so noisy that you can't easily talk to your lunch partner. This was such a place. Shrimp tacos were excellent. Especially fine was our service. Thanks to Ciera for not rushing us as we talked, for always smiling and checking in that we had all we needed. You really made the lunch a notch above.
Nice atmosphere. I went there during restaurant week with 2 friends and 2 of us were late but they were still patient and nice. Steak frites were so good. I would definitely go there again! My server was also nice and other servers were constantly checking in. For some that might be a tad overwhelming but it was okay.
A perfect hideaway from the chaos of Times Square. The interior leans stylish and dark with tufted benches and cozy lighting. Unfortunately, the menu changed just two weeks ago, so many of the most talked-about dishes were no longer available. But all is not lost—the chicken wings are fantastic: juicy, saucy, and balanced with just the right spice. Drinks were another highlight—generous, bright, and well mixed. A highly recommended spot to unwind with good cocktails and bar bites. Update: I find that I often order their burger for lunch, reasonably priced and absolutely flavorful.
Eh. Not for us. The drinks were good! Thanks bartender! The service was lacking. Along with the food. The tofu was the best thing we had! It was amazing! The shrimp tacos were bland. The burrata and peach wasn’t special. The plating could use a lot of work. Had to pay another $5 for bread, might train the servers to mention if you want to add bread when ordering a dish that’s traditionally with bread. Look. I expected more from the reviews, prior pictures, and the price of food compared to other restaurants alike.
Cool NYC bar vibes. The food was very disappointing though. Had the margherita pinsa which lacked flavour. The churros weren’t great - particularly the dipping sauces. The chocolate one tasted like the chocolate syrup from the bottle and the caramel was just a blob of thick Dulce de leche from a tin. Very expensive for not the best quality.
Was here for a corporate happy hour. It's ok. Great location to grand central. The waiters were john on the spot to take drink orders. Food orders, no so much. Infact, you're best avoiding the food. Not great. The drinks were OK but nothing spacial. Maybe stick with the margaritas. Decent holiday decorations. We enjoyed ourselves but when drunk enough with known people anything is fun enough. There are better places to go. There are also worse. Check it out and decide for your self.
I came in to catch up with other friends so we were not in a big rush. The young server was pushy and kept pressing for an order. We ordered from Tthe restaurant week menu. The good- Pinot noir wine- lovely, strawberry burrata- tasty balsamic strawberry with soft mozzarella, pistachio and bread, the chicken schnitzel, crispy hot it had good flavor, and the butter toffee cake- sweet but not overbearing. The Bad- the calamari- portioned like pretzel sticks lack flavor and crispy texture. The bao buns, the salmon- baked or boiled lacked flavor and crisp texture. The burger what happened to the outer char? So soft and mushy. Oh and the food runner was rude- tossed our food on the table without eye contact. We stayed for after dinner cocktails-the espresso martini is good a bit dry in taste but strong coffee flavor. I won’t be back because there is simply so many other better options with friendlier service and better food.
