I got oxtails w rice n peas and veggies , and got a small curry chicken and rice it was so good and nice portion size will visit the truck again
Classy, beautiful aesthetic and fantastic food. Jamaican music wide open. Proprietor was kind enough to let me the side door which is normally locked, as I was unaware of the main entrance (on the corner, I since learned).
I went here on Wednesday afternoon for lunch. Dined in. This food was amazing,so fresh and tasteful. The waitress IMANI was so pleasant, attentive. I enjoyed my time there. The drinks, food, service. Was on point. I will be back for sure. 🤗🤗🤗🤗. Omg the cabbage was amazing. I took some home and it was even good cold 🤣🤣
Tried this carribbean themed restaurant for the first time. Located in the vicinity of the Gateway Mall, it features street parking. The inside setup is nice and very accessible. On this visit, the service staff was attentive and helpful. The one page menu features drink selections on the reverse side. They have a regular menu and a brunch menu at $45.00 that features unlimited mimosas for 1 hour. Sampled the Fusion Sampler that had Jerk wings, callaloo spring roll, coconut shrimp, and codfish fritters. However, they had no collaloo, so the spring rolls were filled with regular Asian spring roll vegetables. The jerk wings were dry rubbed and a tad bit dry, the shrimp allowed for options of jerk, grilled or fried. Tried the fried, but it lacked any cocktail or tartar sauce. The provided sauces were mayo or a curry mayo that didn't taste much like a curry mayo. The cod fritters were good. Not sure why the feature callaloo if they don't have it. Just calling it a vegetable spring roll would work and then it could be filled with the vegetables available for that period. For the entree, had the Oxtail with Slow braised beef, rice & peas, collard greens, and Brown Stew chicken with chicken in brown stew, rice & peas, collard greens. The oxtails did not taste as if the meat were marinated before cooking, it had a very oily mix with the gravy on the plate. The chicken was good, but again to much oil to the gravy ratio. As a island eatery, the addition of a good pepper sauce or hot sauce is needed. The hot sauce offering was bland and tasteless. As for the drink options, the pairing were a bit contrary to the desired taste. Had the Rum Punch that contains Wray & Nephew white rum, Meyers rum and fruit punch. The Meyers rum on its own is over whelming as it is a dark rum with its own distinctive taste. As for non alcoholic drinks, they feature no sugar free options except a in house lemonade. Overall, this is a reasonable price restaurant. It's the details of the menu and drinks that need improvement to make this a much better food establishment.
Nice little spot in East NY near Gateway Center. Went for brunch on 12/29/24 a Sunday around 2:30. Was not crowded, honestly did not expect it to be. But the ambiance was nice the server and DJ were courteous. Music wasn’t too loud and could vibe out and hear the people you came with speak. Food was definitely good only thing I would say is though it didn’t come out cold but got cold pretty quickly. I had chicken and waffles, my aunt and mother ordered the fish and chips and my sister ordered the chicken soup with the southern fried chicken dish she opted for mashed potatoes instead of Mac and cheese. Food was well cooked except the fried chicken was a tad bit over cooked but had flavor and was edible. The waffles got cold on me. My sisters mashed potatoes got cold as well as she needed to finish the soup, all came out around the same time. She didn’t care the greens that came with the meal, might have been too spicy. My aunt and mother enjoyed the fish and chips, fries were cooked well and everything was seasoned well also. Had the sorrel which was a bit tart and my mom got a rum punch she said was not bad. I’d recommend if you’re in the area.
This place is a cozy spot on the corner. I went with a group for work. I must say the appetizers were really good. Especially the cod fritters and coconut shrimp. I liked the calamari and spring rolls as well.. however, it did say callaloo but appeared to be cabbage in the spring rolls. My meal was the jerk salmon..in which I did not receive jerk sauce as stated. The salmon was good. My sides were okay.. the mashed potatoes were really hard. Others ordered the snapper escovich but all people that ordered sent it back. It was very very dry and hard. The Mac n cheese was very hard as well. Yhe drinks were good. I had a Cadillac passion fruit margarita. I would return... Especially for those cod fritters
Ambiance was good. DJ wasn't too loud. Service by Edward was good. Table was somewhat small but ok. No problem with food except cold mash potatoes. We had sampler appetizer which we liked. Sauces were very tasty. Jerk salmon was not as "jerk" as I thought it would be but it was still cooked well. Overall good experience
The food was good for the price. It did take a little while for the food to arrive and there wasn’t many patrons in the building. Took off a star because sadly my friend couldn’t enjoy happy hour. The requirement for happy hour drink prices were to sit on a high stool at the bar and due to her disability she physically can’t get on a stool & they didn’t allow her to get happy hour drinks cause she physically couldn’t sit on a stool at the bar. Hopefully in the future they are disabled friendly.
Fusion East has definitely flavorful Caribbean Soul Food with flavor. The menu had a nice variety of selections that are truly flavorful. The $5.00 all day menu is definitely worth the price. The portion is exactly right I must say. The oxtail is delicious, and that jerk chicken, is mouth watering and will give you the spice and kick that you have been craving for. You will be satisfied!
I got the fish sandwich quite a few times. It could take some salt or spice BUT Ohk. This time I went further and ordered the calamari….its dam nasty. For a Caribbean restaurant I expected better. When since Caribbean ppl started depending on sauce for flavor??? Plus the wait time was well over 1/2hr with an empty restaurant….SEASON THE DAM FOOD!!!!!!
Their food is not bad. Of course. It was better when they just opened. I just think that they need to find a good promoter and start doing different themes for different days. The service is good. I will say that the food is not bad. They delivered on the oxtails this time around because I called ahead and told them please no bones or small little pieces.
Food and drinks was good. Calamari portion was small but was really tasty…Seasoned good. Our waiter was nice and attentive. They don’t sub out sides though which is weird. Have to pay when you want to change the sides. Also the place have a weird smell upon entry. Lost of a star for that. Besides that everything was good. Also the food was suppose to come with collard greens and came with cabbage.
This review is for your food 🚚 truck. I am currently working in an area in Brooklyn where your truck is stationed. For the last three weeks there has been some issue with your peas and rice. This week the rice is heavily burnt and you can taste it. The week before that the grains were hard as heck and burnt. The person putting the food in the to go container has to know that! The first time we ate the food was perfect. I'm not sure what is going on but it is annoying. There is nothing worse that coming out your warm office to stand on a line. Go back to the office and the only thing we feel comfortable with is eating the protein. Please do some quality assurance before you serve and sell. No one has money to waste nowadays.
I recently visited this restaurant, and while the food itself was actually really good, the customer service completely ruined the experience. When I walked in, the waiter just stared at us from the door like we were out of place or something… Honestly , it felt like he saw aliens. It was uncomfortable and unwelcoming a bit… Maybe he was drunk he did have a drink with him. Then the other server came over with a weird attitude from the start. I’m not sure what was going on with him, but the energy was off the whole time. When I tried to say “thank you,” he just lifted his nose up and walked away without acknowledging me. It was strange, rude, and very unprofessional. Like what’s the deal? Overall, the food was solid, 10/10! But the service was so bad that I wouldn’t return. A restaurant should make you feel welcome, not judged or ignored. They really need to work on their customer service. Oh and the rum punch was god awful! OMG? I love rum punch! But it was bad…
The atmosphere is very welcoming. Music isn't too loud, which is a plus. The greeting by the cashiers and host can most certainly be worked on. Ordered a blue Hawaiian where I was charged extra for it to be frozen. That's new to me but, no problem...I then picked up my drink from the bar, and I must admit, it was not good. It tasted like watered down ice and coconut Malibu. I wasn't offered a second courtesy option for the displeasure of my drink. Made my way back to the "Take Out" where my food was. I was hopeful that it was going to make up for the drink... but it was far from that. The Mac n cheese was absolutely bland (with carrots in it), and the yams were canned, topped with maple syrup and cinnamon. 2/5 for both. I also got chicken wings, whereas the frying grease definitely needs changing due to the harsh taste of burnt food residue on the crispy parts. Would not come here again
So I went here for dinner. I LOVEEEEEEEEEE a black owned restaurant, a black owned business period. So trying them made my heart happy. Happiness dissipated once I walked in and could no longer hear my own thoughts. The DJ played his music exceptionally loud, it was even hard to order. Waiter kept asking me to repeat myself. Food: - calamari, though it looked like onion rings, were phenom. - I ordered jerk salmon and mashed potatoes. The jerk salmon was extremely salty while the potatoes were extremely bland. - the waiter was kind enough to take the meal back and let me order something else. I got chicken and waffles to go and ate them for breakfast this morning. I was told it’s not usually like this so I’ll take that person’s word for it, but I won’t go back. Feel free to try it at your own risk. Definitely not recommended for a date night. It was also disgusting to watch the second DJ (there was a switch after 10) try to obnoxiously flirt with every woman as they exited the place.
I was there just this past Saturday and I ordered jerk salmon with collard, green and mashed potatoes. I did not know if a Resturant run out of these things that they allow to give you any vegetables that they want you supposed to let somebody know before you put that on my plate because I could've been allergic to cabbage Mashed potatoes was from the box. The only thing that was good was the lemonade. I'm just being honest.
Came with a party of 15 people after a baptism in which the restaurant was notified of days prior! ( original reservation was 25). they were NOT prepared for serve 15 guests with an EMPTY restaurant. we were given water and drinks and then had to ask the manager when would we be given the prefixed menu. we then received appetizers after 1 hour . and had to ask for plates. we arrived at 1pm, by 330 the entrees came out. french toast as hard as a rock with one side cooked with batter. burger bread hard as hell, cheese was burnt on the burgers. manager clueless telling me the food is coming. i requested immediate refund.
