Everything was great, and appreciated the friendly service. Highly recommend checking this place out. + Fires of Vesuvius was our favorite cocktail. Strong flavor and great spice level. + Enjoyed the crudo. It was light and fresh, packed with flavor. + Monkey bread seems popular, so I don't have much to add. I will say, it was larger than expected and pretty filling! + Definitely preferred the riggies over the rotalini. I just don't think we had the palate for the broccoli rabe. + Panna cotta had three or four layers, so satisfying to take a spoonful. + Baba-yaki was interesting. Great texture, and fun to eat. I don't think I ever tried amaro. It was definitely an adjustment. Overall, it was a lovely and creative experience, with lots of little surprises throughout the evening.
Cafe Mars is one of the most creative dining experiences I’ve had in Brooklyn. The gel olives were super unique a really fun, flavorful dish that shows how playful their menu is. The anchovies with the pizza seasoning were also surprisingly good, packed with flavor and a perfect bite. I tried the Riggies, which is originally an Ithaca, New York dish that’s normally made with chicken, but here they do a version with mussels. It ended up being really good and full of flavor definitely worth ordering if you want something different. The decor is beautiful, with a cool, modern vibe, and the service is extremely friendly and attentive. Overall, a great spot if you’re looking for something creative and memorable in Gowanus.
We had an amazing experience at Café Mars, the food is as unique as the space, flavorful and delicious, some of the highlights were the scallops, girelle pasta and the ice cream sandwich. While the vibe is fun and relaxed, it’s a true fine dining experience full of creativity. Every detail has been thought out from the interior design to the pop-up thank you cards!. The service was outstanding and everyone was very friendly. Can’t wait to come back to explore more of the menu!
Solo dining on V-Day and I was treated like family from the moment I walked in. The staff is incredibly kind and hardworking, and all the food I tried crudo for the first time I loved every bite! What could’ve been a lonely night turned into a memorable experience. Above and beyond
Can't stop day dreaming about the Garlic Butter Monkey Bread! Cafe Mars is not just mouth watering food, but a unique experience with the most incredible staff. Our waiter was not only well informed, but funny and friendly and made the night that much better. I recommend everything on the menu. Every dish that came out was delicious and sometimes quirky! From the ambiance to the impeccable service and mouthwatering food, it’s clear that they put a lot of care into creating an exceptional dining experience.
The food and atmosphere is so good and they have lots of nice little touches that made it a great spot to celebrate my birthday. Complimentary sparkling water. You get to choose a fun glass from a basket and the choice between bubbly or kombucha as an aperitif. Matchbooks and a guest book you can sign at the front. Colorful and funky. Great service.
10/10!!!!!!!!! Like not even kidding. Every dish, every bite, every moment was pure delight. The food touches on every level. From the taste, to the feel to the sound. Hits on all levels. Will be coming back. Core memories made.
We hosted our wedding reception at Cafe Mars and it was perfection! Jordan and Paul worked with us to create an ideal menu. So much time and attention was paid to every detail. Our guests raved about the food and the decor, and we felt that we had an evening that really represented our style. Thank you so much!
cafe mars left nothing to be desired. this was the most fun i’ve had a restaurant - everything was delectable and curated! i can’t wait to come back asap!
Food was delicious, service was delightful. Favorite app: jellolive—really unique flavor of Negroni jello. Favorite entree: all the pasta dishes are delicious, can’t pick one! Highly recommend ordering a bunch of plates and sharing. Will define back!
I think our party may have tried everything on the menu? Or almost everything! Literally kept ordering more dishes because everything was so delicious! My out of town friends initially asked to come because of the jell-olives. It did not disappoint. The drinks were also delicious! The only not completely high note was the dessert but I think the fact that the starters, mains, and drinks were so so so delicious that it just did not compare. Will absolutely be recommending this place to everyone! If you go, we highly recommend the garlic knot monkey bread, fluke crudo, and bucatini con mackerel. (sorry we were too busy eating that I did not take pictures of all the items we ate but here are a few for reference)
Delicious and bold menu! The welcome drink was so special with picking your own glassware! The lemon bucatini was amazing especially! Love the funky decor and the fact that the servers were so knowledgeable about the menu! Will def come back!
Came with a group of 5 for a birthday so we did the prix fixe menu. That set up was perfect for us, you got to try 1-2 bites of every single item on the menu. Specifically, we LOVED the meatball dumpling with sesame and the lemon pasta were excellent. Two friends do not eat pork and they were flawless in respecting that and maintaining the integrity of the dishes. Service was very friendly and enthusiastic about the culinary work. The decor and vibes are fun/kitschy, not your typical Italian spot with brick and old timey vibes, it’s modern and colorful. I would highly recommend a group dinner here.
My friend and I visited this beautiful small PR authentic restaurant for one of my birthday celebrations. It was so comfortable and beautifully decorated. The food was amazing . The host/waitress was very attentive and nice. I will definitely come back we loved it. Great Puerto Rican 🇵🇷 food.
🎇1️⃣ of the best Authentic Puerto Rican🇵🇷 Restaurants🍴 out here❕️ The food, staff, service, experience, etc. was great just like the first time i tried it when they first open. Everything i had from the appetizers to the desert was excellent❕️The flavor, seasoning authentic just like La Isla🏝🇵🇷 I was about to go to some spots after in Isla Verde then chill by the beach & go chill in old San Juan, then I remembered I was in Bk. NYC.🤦♂️😁👍🏽 I ❤ this place & hope for much success pa' mi gente & will be returning. I highly recommend if you want a authentic taste & experience of Puerto Rican food & culture in NYC. Gracias y 🗣Wepa❕️Pa' lante mi gente❕️🏝🇵🇷🐸👍🏽🍽🥩🧄🧅🍛🥘🍚🍮🥤
My girlfriend and I definitely enjoyed our meal here at Kiosko 787! We just moved to Queens but I’m Puerto Rican on my Mom’s side and my girlfriend’s best friends family is also Puerto Rican so when one of our errands was going to be bringing us to the area I wanted to stop because I’ve had this place saved since I saw it on TikTok. The flavors are definitely reminiscent of my grandma’s cooking so it felt really special. The Mofongos were delicious and loved that crispy bacalaito. Their arroz con gandules is more adobo forward, although I prefer mine to be sofrito forward and with a lil jamón (but again that’s just preference!). Tostones were also great— I feel they could be leveled up further with a side of mojo (verde o rojo!). Can’t wait to bring my Mom back when she visits sometime ♥️
I enjoy the authentic environment, food and experience that me and a friend got to have. The service was AWSOMESAUCE from the moment I walked in the door. I don't eat meat so ordering to the mofongo was a great choice. 5 🌟⭐️🌟⭐️🌟Stars for me. I love the kid family-friendly vibe. As well as the adult BYOBB vibe ya get when there are no kids. Keep up the great work. The food was amazing, and so was the service.
Look here.....this place is so cute and cozy. The food is magnificent and authentic. The picture that I attached was of my dates plate. He had pork chops with sweet plantain, salad, and white rice and beans. From my understanding, the pork chops are imported directly from Puerto Rico. The atmosphere is everything Puerto Rico. I've never been to Puerto Rico but after visiting there, it's now on my list of places I want visit. They even have a TV that shows someone walking around Puerto Rico. I never realized that the place was so colorful. It felt just like you were there. I Highly Suggest you make reservations. This place is small with limited seating. I believe walk-ins are also welcomed but just be mindful that may be wait.
Great place for those of us who are far away from our beloved island, cozy, intimate and full of sazón boricua! Service was really good! They even had a video showing you stamps of our beautiful island! A must destination! Tried the triplets, the queso frito and the arroz con bistec, all full of flavor!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed my time at Kiosko787. We were early for our reservation time but were seated promptly. The atmosphere of the place, starting from when you walk up is such a vibe. It really did remind me of a little cocinera in Old San Juan. Great photo op. Inside is the same. Paintings of Puerto Rican culture line the walls, even in the bathroom. The decor screams PR. There's even a small section where you can buy little trinkets and stuff. The service was great, considering most of the tables were full. The alcapurrias were delicioso, there's one with bacalao that's worth a shot, too. The chuleta kan kan was fried perfectly, crispy but still juicy, and the cuero (skin) was crunchy and flavorful. Loved the tostones and the rice and beans as well. Would definitely come back around. Gave the food 4 of 5 only because my partner and I felt it could use a bit more sabor, but this is also Park Slope and not Spanish Harlem, so I can understand not being so heavy on the Adobo lol. Just note there is no alcohol served here, so it's either sodas and fruit drinks or virgin Piña Coladas. Didn't bother us, but it's worth mentioning just in case you're expecting Medallas and Rum. Shout to the owner Al who was there and checked on us. Can't wait to come back!!!
I came here with my friends on a rainy day, and let me tell you — this food was exactly what we needed to turn the day around. We started off with drinks: two passionfruit juices and one mango juice. My passionfruit juice was so cold, refreshing, and bursting with flavor that I had to stop myself from finishing it in two gulps — it completely hit the spot. Next up, we shared some pastelillos (two beef, one beef & cheese). They came out piping hot, golden, and absolutely stuffed with the most flavorful beef I’ve ever had in a pastelillo. A solid 10/10. For our mains, we ordered the Arroz Mamposteao De La Casa and the Pollo Guisado. The arroz was a beautiful medley of chopped sweet plátanos, beans, pork belly, and more — every bite was a whole new experience, and it was to die for. But my absolute favorite was the pollo guisado: tender, fall-off-the-bone stewed chicken soaking in a rich, savory gravy. I’m drooling just thinking about it! To finish, we shared a tres leches cake, and let me tell you — this is the first time I’ve ever truly enjoyed a tres leches. Creamy, moist, and not overly sweet… trust me, this is your sign to order one. The vibe of the place is vibrant and cozy, with colorful decor that feels warm and welcoming. Seating is a bit limited, so I recommend making a reservation if you can. Walk-ins are fine too, but you might have to wait a little. All in all, this was an unforgettable meal — easily a 10/10 — and I can’t wait to come back and try even more. Even better, it’s walking distance from my house! So happy to have this gem in the neighborhood. 😁 ✨ For more foodie gems like this, follow @blaze_eatsnyc on Instagram!
Absolute Charm. We finally had our chance to visit this little Puerto Rican Restaurant in Brooklyn and we were amazed on the mixture of flavors. Everything from the alcapurria to the Pernil and mofongo was just super traditional. The vibe definitely brings me back to Puerto Rico. Aracelly was our server and she was super attentive. We had the chance to meet the owner and he was also very personable. Prices are not bad for the amount of food we got. Please make reservations if you dont want to wait. Definitely will be coming back. Don't miss out on this delicious food.
Hidden Gem! I had family visiting from North Carolina, and we decided to try Kiosko for dinner last night. I can't say enough good things about this place! Upon entering, you instantly feel transported from Brooklyn to Puerto Rico. We kicked off our meal with tostones and garlic sauce, which were simply delicious! My grandmother ordered the pernil, and it was not only super tasty but also served in a generous portion. As for me, I chose the octopus salad, and it was one of the best I’ve ever had—so fresh and full of flavor! This place is a must-visit, and I will 100% be back! Also, thank you Nestor for being so accommodating and answering all of our questions about the menu! So many good options to choose from
I kept seeing videos on social media about this restaurant, and I had to check it out. It did not disappoint. The owner was extremely friendly and engaging. The atmosphere was amazing. The food was amazing. I was so happy to see coquito on the menu, My daughter and I plan on returning. The weekends are very busy. We went on a weekday around 12:30 pm, and it was perfect. I even picked up a tee shirt, which is beautiful.
Café Mars is such a funky place from their creative dishes to their interior design. The staff were all super friendly and welcoming throughout our time there! My favorite was the girelle pasta. Very strong lemon flavor that reminded me of similar dishes I’ve tried in Italy. Overall, we thought they were all tasty but not too memorable. Ended up being pretty pricey for each person (I somehow forgot to take all photos, but we’ve ordered more than what’s shown here).
Everything that was breaded and fried were excellent— the asparagus, mushroom. The breading was so light and crunchy and flavorful, and perfect with all the sauces that came with it. The monkey bread was amazing with the garlic butter. The lemon pasta was great as well. Portion sizes are on the smaller side.
i loved this place! we came after searing an water review and really wanted to try the “whimsical” experience. we weren’t let down. the olives are fun and should be gotten. lean into it!!! if you’re not here for fun why are you here? after we really enjoyed the lettuce and the octopus with pepperoni. both not just satisfying but delicious. in terms of the pasta we got the girelle (lemon) and triangle penne (beef cheeks). i 10/10 recommend the triangle penne, but i do wish we got the waves (prawns) instead of the lemon. next we had the bluefish with kohlrabi agrodolce — SO GOOD. wow. who knew bluefish could taste so tangy and meaty and yummy? lastly - the strawberries and olive cake. the olive cake - being made literally with black olive purée - was a total winner. i also got an espresso martini with mine which was a little too bitter for my liking. other than that one drink - beverages were great. really like the candy with the check and the first welcome drink on the house. our only negative comment - just wish service was faster. it seems they have limited staff, and way too many tables for their small kitchen. we waited quite a long time between dishes and were there over 2 hours. not a big problem but would prevent us from dropping by on a weeknight again. all in all - a great new spot.
There are some amazing items on the menu. And the staff is fantastic. We ordered almost everything. Favorites included the jell-olives, the anchovies, the chicken liver mousse, the grilled octopus, the roasted kabocha, and for dessert, the breakfast in sicily. That said, the whole concept is a bit too gimmicky for me. Bottom line, I'm really glad I had a chance to check it out but it may be a while before I come back. It reminded me a little of when (back in the day) molecular gastronomy was all the rage.
We came on a rainy day and were the only two customers. The lady at the register was very nice. The food was really delicious. I ordered the chuleta which was a little on the dry but the chicharron was perfect and juicy. The yellow rice was also a little dry but still good. The Maduros were absolute perfection. The pastel de cerdo was also really good. Dish presentation was very nice. The arroz mamposteao was also enjoyable. Prices are transparent. I have been wanting to try this place even though it is on the pricier end but the meal was worth it. I hope to return. The atmosphere was nice. The decor was nice and they had a travel show highlighting San Juan.
My sister raved about this place as she saw it on social media so when I came to town we had to hit this place up. The front of the business is super cute. Vibrant colors and Puerto Rico Representation. Inside the place it so cute and cozy. There is limited dinning space so I would recommend to make reservations. Here is what we ordered and loved : Drinks : jugos naturales mango, parcha and guanábana Eats: picadera platter which serves 3-4 ppl, alcapurria de yuca and jueyes, and good ol rice and beans.
The inside is cute and we appreciated the creativity! The food was 50/50: monkey bread and lemon pasta were ah-mazing and worth the trip! The fried figs, while individually delicious, was overall a clunky dish. The scallop dish missed the mark. The service was good, however, it was really odd to have the utensil drawer being restocked at our table multiple times during our meal.
The place is fun, the decor is great, the service was very attentive. Fun surprises, like a complimentary drink at the beginning of the meal. The cocktails had really strong flavors. The menu is interesting, features creative dishes that are well executed. The menu changes regularly which is great. Have been here twice and would come back again.
More fun than good. The quirky atmosphere and great service was unable to fully compensate for the meal - that while beautifully plated, failed to live up. The lemon lemon lemon pasta was the standout dish. Bring friends and a light mood and you will have a good time.
Have to admit was a little let down. Maybe we got the wrong dishes. But we got the pork special and corned beef. For the price expected larger portions and more sauces, since the place is known for all the extravagant sauces on their mofongos. Need to go back for mofongo. Hopefully they make bifongo and pinchos in the future. Service was good.
Located in the heart of Park Slope, Brooklyn, Kiosko 787 brings authentic Puerto Rican flavors to the neighborhood. Though it occupies the space where "My Cuban Spot" used to be with chef Louie Estrada. Kiosko 787 truly excels in its food. In an area filled with diverse dining options, their mofongo and slow-roasted pork stand out. The Pernil Asado Mofongo—a classic dish of mashed plantains with garlic, pork cracklings, and tender slow-roasted pork—transports you straight to a traditional kitchen. The flavors are deeply savory, and each bite feels like a nod to home-cooked meals. The acapurrias, deep-fried fritters made with plantain dough and stuffed with meat, are delectable starters: crispy on the outside and perfectly seasoned inside. The chef demonstrates remarkable skill, infusing each dish with a soulful quality that taps into a sense of heritage and nostalgia. The ambiance is casual and intimate, reminiscent of a cozy, no-frills cafeteria in a bustling San Juan market. With about eight small cafeteria style tables packed into the dining room, the space can feel cramped, especially during peak times. The restaurant struggles to accommodate large groups, and patrons often need to wait for a seat, sometimes outside in the elements. For smaller parties willing to wait, it offers a laid-back atmosphere perfect for enjoying solid, home-cooked meals. However, the service leaves much to be desired. There is a significant imbalance between the kitchen's output and front-of-house management. On busy evenings, waiting 35 minutes for a table and an additional 20 minutes for a server is not unusual. The service doesn't improve much from there; once seated, expect delays. Water comes in a bottle, so be prepared to pay for it. The owner often doubles as a server but may be preoccupied with tik tok influencers, adding to the delays. With only one waitress handling seating, orders, and phone takeouts, the service feels disorganized and inattentive. In some instances, simple requests like ordering sweet plantains was be denied with no explanations, detracting from the dining experience despite the excellent food. Prices are slightly high for a neighborhood joint, especially considering the portion sizes of the rice and beans, the use of paper plates and plastic utensils. While the cost of ingredients has risen, the portions—particularly sides like rice and beans—feel sparse given the price point. However, the quality of the ingredients and the care in preparation might justify the extra cost for some diners, especially since this type of cuisine is rare in New York City's vast restaurant scene. Final Verdict: Come for the Food, Lower Expectations for Service Kiosko 787 offers some of the best Puerto Rican food in Brooklyn, delivering traditional flavors that feel like home on a plate. However, the disorganized and inattentive service can detract from the experience. The recommendation is clear: come early, bring patience, and focus on the exceptional food. If you manage your expectations regarding service, you'll find a deeply satisfying meal that's worth the wait. Note to the Restaurant: The food is great; just work on the service. Also I do not need a reply with an explanation of the service short comings. Just fix it and continue pumping out great food 😃
This was our first time eating here and last time. The place is not inviting and dim. It is missing something. The white rice was mushy and starchy. The only good thing was the maduros. The red beans lacked flavor. I was hoping for a better experience. I told the server that I did not like the taste of the tres leches cake. It should have been taken off my receipt. It had a gritty and it didn't taste fresh. *Thank you for your response. No one is bitter here. There are other customers here with negative reviews and some of your responses are unprofessional and ridiculous. Mejor se come en Puerto Rico!!!
