This is my first choice of 2 when it comes to soul food. I dont think there is another in Brooklyn better than here. The fried chicken yams and mac and cheese with a side of collard greens and a half and half is the way to go. One serving last two days!

We encountered this establishment while on our way to the city. Very much an impulse purchase and we don't regret it at all. We purchased four dinners and two slices of cake. Everything was fresh, delicious, and flavorful. Definitely exceeded our expectations and we are beyond content. The woman who served us was friendly, attentive, and was more than generous with the serving sizes. We will definitely be visiting again (lord help my diet). Highly recommend!

Have been going here for years. Love being able to walk in and get down home favorites in minutes. Their fried fish is seasoned to perfection and when I'm going for a healthier, steamed option, they do not disappoint. Even better though are their catering services. They have prepared food for many of my family functions and the food is always ready when they say and tasting right - all for a fair price!

This place is the best I've tried so far in NY! The meatloaf and ribs were excellent, the macaroni and yams were superb. And that banana pudding was on point. And he gave us so much food and he was pretty nice and calm despite it being crowded. I'll definitely return, though the area of Brooklyn is a bit sketchy, so just be careful and park close to restaurant if possible.

I love this place!!💞 food is always fresh, they allow you to sample anything on their menu and they are the sweetest men ever. They definitely have that southern charm. I cannot get over the collard greens and jerk chicken. Their ox tails were also very tasty. I would recommend them 1000 times over. It is a must try.

Staff are friendly. I have been here for Thanksgiving meals 2 years in a row. It does not disappoint. My favorite items: Mac n cheese, stuffing, yam. I'm not a turkey person so chicken or oxtail is my go to.

I had a taste for authentic southern food and found Soulfood Caterers. When you walk in, you can smell the love. It is hard to choose from all the options. I got fish, fried chicken and beef short ribs for the family and we devoured it all! Great food and flavor! And the yellow cake with chocolate frosting made us tear up it tasted so good. Checked all the boxes of what we were looking for.

So so so good. The food SLAPS it's so good. The fried shrimp had this amazing seasoning and the Mac and cheese was gooey and delicious. I'll definitely be coming back for more!

Haven't been here in 20 years. The food is still slamming like back in the days. Jerk Turkey wings fell off bone and hot, Stuffing was well seasonedand hitting like Thanksgiving, Broccoli w/ cheddar so great. 1 piece of fried chicken, was fried hard. Retirement party for close to 100 people. Food was delicious. All food was cooked well and not too salty. Fried fish, fried chicken and 2 kinds of rice was done to perfection. Real NC cooking coming out of Brooklyn, we were impressed and very satisfied. ❤️❤️❤️❤️

First time and definitely won’t be my last!! They did not disappoint what so ever, I had the catfish with baked mac & cheese along side some yamsss. I almost forgot the banana pudding. Lord I’m inloveee. The catfish was light soft didnt taste like fish wasn’t greasy or overly seasoned & wasn’t dry either . Same goes for the Mac& cheese and yams . The yams shocked me too they were sweet but not brown sugar and all that extra jazz. just healthy sweet yams . The whole meal was perfect ! Perfect portions too . Only 19 bucks this place was amazing . Coming from me and I don’t even eat catfish from now on I will . Oh and the was an older gentle man who answered the phone . Bless his heart he was so sweet and gave me the confirmation I needed . Thank youu!

Come for the food. You can dine outside but no need. Sit in the comfort of your home and throw down. They have old school southern food like ham hocks and pigs feet. You can get small or large plates. They pack the food in pretty well. Cornbread is soft and moist and included for free. You have to pay like 50 for salt pepper of extra butter. The food was seasoned perfectly. So nothing else was needed. Must try if in Brooklyn.

I absolutely love this place. The food is fresh and down home delicious. The employees are cool and you definitely get your money's worth here with the portions as well. We recently used them to cater for 250 people, and the food was great and held the same quality.

There cakes we DELICIOUS!! Quite decadent, and large slices. I had to eat each in intervals for a couple of days, however, I O.D.'d and bought 1 chocolate layer, 1 chocolate cream (my favorite), one blueberry cheesecake, and one pineapple cheesecake. My husband got yellow cake layered with crushed pineapple and vanilla frosting, you know the kind you usually get at birthday parties. I have to admit, my pitbull (my Baby Bear) finished that off, little by little, over about 3 days. He wasn't moving fast enough🤷🏼‍♀️🤷🏼‍♀️ 🤪😜 🥰 😋😋

Took my mom here her old friend owns the place. She loved the food. Only downfall is they only accept cash, and our food came up to $80. Was inconvenienced but using the ATM. Not too many people carry cash.

Went on Sunday, first time. Long line only person who looked like I came from church. Young lady came over asked was I between services. She took my order on side had me out within 15 minutes. Food was plentiful and good. Short ribs, greens and peas rice and coconut pineapple cake. Will go back.

Being from the South have not been too thrilled with places that say they Southern dishes, more especially those that say its Soul Food. Not giving any business a bad rep, but so far none has lived up to true Southern "Down Home" Cooking. However this place was the closest thing to Southern cooking that I have come across so far. The food texture was on point and the seasonings were almost perfect. I felt that someone had gotten some recipes from the South and actually used them. Was only missing that comfort that I like in food as well. In addition, the staff was courtesy and accommodating. Will revisit this location during my time here.

Really good southern comfort food. The desserts are tasty. Service is alright, I've seen them have attitudes but only with genuinely annoying customers while there is a rush - so just be quick with your order and don't hold up the line. They are very generous with portions when you are courteous.

I had fried whitting and Mac and cheese with the greens. Only issue I had was the greens had meat in them which I didn't like but over all the food was great. My guy had the back chicken mac and yams on the side he loved his food. He's from Jersey so I showed his a little something. Oh and he said the strawberry shortcake was hard he didn't like it. Good customer service as well. We will go back.

The Chittlins were good a little pricy 22 dollars for such a little bowl. I like to support black businesses, but they just over price.

Food is very good! Note: They also have takeout and eat-in (though very small). Two complaints. Luckily it wasn't crowded and I was able to walk and see all the selections. When it is, you feel rude trying to get through people to see what's available. A "Today's" board at the beginning would be very helpful. The second issue is around price. The menus are old, I think, and they're near the front. It would be helpful if you knew costs when you walk in. That board could help here, too.

The food here is good. Suggest going in and looking at the food on the line so you can see what’s gonna be fresh. Line took about 45 mins on a Sunday around 1:30. Staff was nice.

Honestly, I head there for four things that I absolutely love! But I'll only share two because I don't want those gems to be sold out when I arrive! The cabbage is a game changer, and don't even get me started on the pink lemonade—it's simply delicious! I’ve ventured into other items on the menu, but they were a bit too salty for my liking. As for the service, it could definitely use a boost; they move at a leisurely pace, and I get the feeling my bill is always a little different, even though I stick to my favorites every time! But hey, I’m a local, so it’s all good! I’ll keep coming back for my go-to staples when I want a break from cooking!

The variety is what draws me in , however the customer service and prices is what keeps me with away. Delivery orders and pickups sometimes interfere with the pace of the order line which causes friction with the customer service experience. The prices depends on the meat and size of the tray which range from $15-20 for just 1 meal. After all the waiting and loud shouting by SOME of the servers i wonder is the food worth it.

On Monday, 11/25 I placed an order by phone with Al, owner of Soulfood Caterers. I was told my order would be ready on 11/27 at 6:30pm. I called on the 27th at 8pm to confirm my order was ready. I gave Al my name & asked if my order was ready. His response was "I don't know what your order is." In the middle of me telling him what my order was he said "it should be ready." I tell him that's not a proper response, it's either yes or no. He reiterated "if you were told it would be ready, then it SHOULD be ready." I tell him I don't want to come pick up my order if it's not ready & asked him not to be testy with me. He hung up the phone! I go to pick up my order & share my phone experience with everyone in the store. Al is in the back watching everything on camera. The woman behind me gets her order before I get mine. I express the fact that I'm being disrespected, again. My order finally comes out - minus one item. This order was to supplement my Thanksgiving dinner. I'm asked if I want to substitute it. My answer is no. Al needs to stay off the phone. Let someone else deal with customers. This is Brooklyn & we have LOTS of options.

The staff here is super attentive and warm. Disregard that my whiting filets were filled with so many bones to the point where I couldn’t enjoy them- it lacked seasoning and flavor. The best part of my meal was my sides, which I would definitely go back for. (Yams + Greens)

Collard greens and pork ribs I got were delicious. I will come back to try their seafood. I wasn't overly impressed but the service was great, menu had lots of options and I liked that they had outdoor seating. Very convenient.

I got short beef ribs Mac and collar greens and the twisted tea ribs was cooked to perfection so tender but the taste wasn’t there at all at all same as the collar greens the collar green wasn’t seasoned at all the Mac was iight the tea was great Imma have to go back give them another chance Update: No funny I had to recook and season my collars I put some bbq sauce on the beef ribs put them in the oven cuz I was not boutta waste 30+ dollars of food 🤷🏾‍♀️😂 I will say it’s a nice portion of food

While the food is very tasty, it is very over priced. They charged me 14 dollars for 3 guppies and 2 sides. I've been to plenty of Soul Food establishments and never paid that much, especially for baby whities. I'd rather travel to another borough before I purchase from them again.

Walked in 3 people in restaurant not one even acknowledged I was there even though they all looked at me. There were no other customers either. I ordered fish and grits. Grits were so runny. I used a spoon to eat them. Fish was slightly salty. Ordered oxtail rice and peas String beans. Oxtail was under cooked so tough. Rice was dry even though I asked for gravy before and asked her after did she. She said yes. String beans were ok. Bottom line. Food is a no return for me. Also because looking at other foods in display. Banana pudding was dried up as well as potato salad. Unimpressed

Great food! However there is this one girl who I see all the time who always has an attitude and should be replaced if you want to keep a family friendly vibe. I thought it was just a one day thing but it’s everytime I walk in the store. Her attitude ruins everything. Also was harassed into buying a tiny 4$ pie which was not worth it at all. Never again

They give you a super large portion, but it’s just not that great. I wanted to love it but it was well below expectations. Seasoning was non existent. Especially surprised that the jerk chicken was bad even though the server had a Caribbean accent. 🤦🏾‍♀️

1st time ordering from here, the bake chicken look like it wasn’t cooked. I had to recook it. 2nd time I ordered from here the jerk wings were so dry felt like I was chewing cardboard, even tho the lady added gravy. The food taste like it’s been out allll day. The only reason I gave it a 2 star because the crab legs were good. I gave it 2 tries and it’s safe to say I won’t be ordering from here again.

The lady was waiting for me to order. I finally decided what I wanted. As I’m telling her she walks away to get a glove. She comes back and asks what I wanted. I ordered three large meals for myself and my two children, planning to eat in the restaurant. Im told they don’t have any plates so I ask to have an aluminum container instead. I was told no, they are expensive. I spent over $45 on the food, and can’t just have a two cent aluminum. Very petty place that should focus more on customer service. I won’t be returning and hope others teach them why customer service needs to stay alive. Food was ok.

my brother ordered my mom some food for mother's day & had me go pick it up. I had to go back twice because they messed up the order. The lady was very rude and nasty and my mom STILL didn't get the food she ordered. The food is absolutely delicious but I will never order online again! And if you go there be prepared to stand on the line for at least an hour!

Service here was horrible!! i ordered yams and bbq chicken. It wasn’t communicated that they didn’t have any yams told me give them a second. After 20 mins of waiting and watching everyone else that entered get serviced before me. finally communicates to me that there isn’t any yams. Forgot my order 3 times. To ask what I wanted to then tell me last minute after all tha waiting that there won’t be any yams. Wont be returning.

Stopped in this place for dinner after work, the aroma of the food while walking by was amazing. However I didn’t enjoy my food. I ordered yams , greens and steamed shrimp. Everything was extremely tasteless. I’ve eaten here back in the day when this spot was number one in the Bedford Stuyvesant/ Crown Heights area. Great customer service, however needs more work on food seasoning. I was very excited to get food from this place as I remember them having amazing food in the neighborhood.

I absolutely love the food. Me and my mom have been regular customers for years but lately I have lost the desire to come here because of the rude female they have working at the counter. She needs to be taught how to speak to customers or find something else for her to do like washing the dishes or something. Her attitude is disgusting and she overcharges . The staff was very friendly and patient. I originally didn't know what to order, and asked another customer what she thought was good, as she seemed to be a regular at The restaurant. The portion was enough for two although I purchased the small. I ordered the baked macaroni and cheese with spinach and beef ribs. The spinach was a bit salty and the beef wasn't to my liking. The macaroni wasn't too bad, but it wasn't as good as it could have been. There were different kinds of cake in the refrigerator and it looked tasty, but I'm borderline diabetic so I had to pass on that. I don't think I will be purchasing food there after today.

Great customer service, but price per food makes no sense, for $15 i only got 3 wings some rice and Mac n cheese. My wife got 3pcs of oxtail (insane) with the same thing. I ordered 3 meals . Turkey wings was huge good flavor but not cooked enough. The baked chicken was not tender at all the collards had no taste very bland. The okra and mac was the only thing good that I ordered. The chefs need to go back to drawing board. Food was not good at all. I tried and will not try again. Koolaide was good. That strong chitterlings smell when you walk in is over powering as well.

Smh so tonight I ordered shrimps & fries I get home it's fish. I take it back tell her it's wrong I want shrimp she constantly repeats "fish" I'm saying "No I want shrimp." She says "Ok". I'm starvin at this point so she brings it out bagged up.. Lmmfao now I'm staring at a extra thing of fish 1 being in a dirty tray. I used to eat here faithfully since it was on Fulton street I tried it back in February it didn't work out so I thought this would have been the redeemer but nope.

I went to this place yesterday for the first time and spent $68 . I got a shrimp dinner a beef rib dinner a oxtail dinner a side of potato salad and a slice of cake that was molded . I live way across town and really couldn’t drive back because I had to log into work I must have called the establishment 20times and nobody responded . I was so disappointed . We had to throw all the food away because we didn’t know what was good and what wasn’t ! I have pictures also !

The calamari ordered was so DRY I THOUGHT I WAS EATING CORN CHIPS THE BATTER IS TERRIBLE AND SALTY. Such a disappointment I wasted money on this food BEWARE DONOT WASTE YOUR TIME AND MONEY. The seasoning taste like x20 salt x20 cornmeal . And I didn’t even get the sauce I ordered to try to eat the dried out fish.

As usual there's going to be that one employee that's determined [N]ot to be an employee of the month...basically, a problem child, I use to live 5 doors from there, back in the days you could bet your last two dollars when you walked into the doors you were going to get two things for sure ( some real down home cooked meals and a healthy dose of Southern hospitality). But now? Git it and git! ... they also need to brighten up the food showcasing, and fix that 😡😡screen door, put a outside menu up, fix the ventilation system and I am not going to say a thing about that Sapphire who leaves a bitter taste in your mouth before you can enjoy the meal, just as vicious as the Koreans.

I brought a large plate of Barbecue chicken and rice and peas from this restaurant. When i got home and starting eating, the chicken was horrendous, i threw the food away. This place is under different management. The plate caused be 29 dallars. I would never eat there again. Their buiesness days are numbered.

This is my third time ordering from this place and the first time I really enjoyed their food... The second time I ordered food and they substituted my order without telling me , I Called and told them they messed up my order and she told me they didn’t have what I ordered so they substituted it so I let that go. Now this my third time ordering from them but this time I ordered online instead of in person. I ordered salmon, candy yams, and macaroni balls. The macaroni taste like spoiled milk or cheese idk. This is my last time ordering from them. I thought I found a good place but they not consistent.

I ordered two fish sandwiches from this place thinking I may have found a cool little fish place or soul food place…when I opened my sandwich 🥪’s there were two very very small pieces of fish on each sandwich…I wish I could send a picture. I will NEVER order anything from this restaurant again and I wasted money on this bullshit… the Uber driver was so sweet but other then that I would never recommend this spot to anyone.

This is a hit or miss spot; take it from a NC native ; this is a New York version of NC soul food. Today was the last time I eat this slop. #1. Ribs were tough & as a NC native folks in Kingston know that BBQ is a NC speciality that requires slow aka 4-6hrs & low cooking temperature aka no more than 225 degrees & ribs especially “pork” ribs must to be cooked bone side up. I almost feel like I need a job here to help them get back to the taste the owner built his representation on. The Mac & cheese was a negative 10 on a scale of 1-10 aka it was bland barley no cheese & it tasted like it only had cheap mild cheddar; Mac & cheese is all about quality cheese. The greens were a complete shame ; tasted like water ; they might as well serve Glory greens they taste better. We spent $60+ for three meals only to end up throwing the food out. In NYC you can sell a lower quality of food but in NC this spot wouldn’t last a month with the way the quality keeps going down tear after year while the prices keep going up. When the OWNER is there the food is always right & he does NOT over charge ppl. To top it all off they sold us expired soda that expired in Oct 2021. Checking inventory weekly is key to ensure quality; first in & first out isn’t rocket science. And lastly the whiting fish was absolutely horrible. Xcellent Seafood located at Ralph Avenue has whiting that puts this spot fish to shame & they are proudly West Indian but the quality is definitely Southern. Lesson learned : cook my own soul food it cost less. And lastly the ladies that work here with the exception of the young lady are a complete disgrace to Southern Hospitality ; entirely too aggressive & loud. I truly miss the Old Seafood Caterers when the OWNER ACTUALLY COOKED THE FOOD. If my financial year goes as planned I’m going to support the opening of their competition because I’m tired of NYC versions of Soul Food. Can BK get at least one authentic soul food restaurant?. This food maybe ok for New Yorkers but Southerns know this food is worthy of the trash.

Food is disgusting, don’t be fooled by those good reviews... those are friends or family members because it’s no way a sane person would think this food is “tasty” or “good old fashioned southern comfort food”... it’s a lie! The macaroni and cheese is trash and has a unidentifiable taste, chicken and fish is under seasoned but fried well, the greens were soggy and sweet. The food was inedible and I actually threw it in the trash. Stay away!

Some food was horrible. They use to be great fire the chef. Their cabbage was very nasty, the shrimps was alright the sauce saved it from going in the garbage. Mac and chess was bland. Don't waste your money. Wait... the dessert is good and I'm a diabetic so that worthless to me.

To start off, this place was absolutely HORRIBLE !!! not joking. I went there and the food looks old, the place looks like a mess, their food is saggy and most likely left overs . Not fresh at all. totally ridiculous and that's not even all. I decided to still try their food. Got my food, went home and my rice tasted like chemicals was inside my food not to mention my chicken was half cooked. Inside the chicken was so bloody I immediately got sick and threw the food away. I wasted $21.00 dollars on food that was so sickening. I've never in my life went to a restaurant and had this experience. Honestly I would not recommend anyone to this restaurant. This place needs to be closed down or have a new staff or something because it is horrible. Best believe that's my last time there.

For the amount of money spent I would think the food would be better. The collard greens were so salty to the point I could not eat them and they also tasted like they used smoked pork even though they said it had smoked turkey. Mac and cheese was bland. I frequented this business back in the early 2000's and the food was always Fresh and delicious no matter what I had purchased. I then moved from the neighborhood and hadn't been back in years, I decided to go back again and give them another try. I went there on September 13th 2024 it was 2:30pm, I purchased 2 Fried Whiting and Potato Salad Dinners, I also got 2 pieces of cake ( one Pineapple-Coconut and one Lemon ) I returned home and refrigerated it all until I felt like eating which was at 9pm. I warmed the Fish and proceeded to eat my meal. It was absolutely disappointing, the food tasted nothing like what I used to get. The Potato Salad was very Vinegary, I couldn't finish it and the Fish was so, so, even the cake was not on point leaving me to throw away a good portion of what was left. I was then awakened at 5:00am with a horrible feeling in my stomach and had to rush into my bathroom, I had a bad case of Diarrhea. I will never patronize this business again!!! Those of you who do, Please be very Vigilant! You don't want a case of Food Poisoning. It's not fun.

I came here after seeing all the rave reviews on TikTok, but don’t be misled by the hype. The food was completely bland and honestly not worth the price. I wouldn’t recommend it at all 0/10.

I ordered catering $305 dollars worth of food and I’m really disappointed. I always eat from soul food a while back , but it seems like it was a change of cook or seasoning . I wasn’t satisfied.

First off the stew chicken was terrible. The meat was overcooked and dry, lacking any flavor or seasoning that would make it enjoyable. The sauce was too watery, which made the dish feel bland and unappetizing. And Second of all the rice was also terrible. The grains were clumped together instead of being fluffy and separate, which made it unappealing. Additionally, there was a lack of seasoning, leaving the rice bland and tasteless. Overall, it was a disappointing side dish that didn’t complement the meal at all. DONT GO HERE.

First time ordering from here and will be my last! Food was not season well , had to add my own seasoning at home . And after all that work we found hair in the food !!!! highly DONT recommend eating here.
