Space a little small and tight. But the atmosphere is nice, appreciate that music was not too loud. Food was great! Delicious cocktails and small plates! A lot of vegetarian options. Highly recommend!
Good food, reasonable prices, excellent wine, and pleasant service. There's a nice set up out back though it can be a bit noisy out front because it's on Cortelyou. One of the many restaurants I've discovered since leaving Hamilton's behind because of its incredibly rude female owner. Going back with a friend on Thursday. Try the fried okra!
I am so happy to have chosen this restaurant! My wife and I were served amazing cocktails, along with some of the best buffalo wings and steak tartare. Also, the oysters were so good, I ordered a second dozen! If you're in the neighborhood, this place is a really great spot!
Food ,drinks and service are great. Love to come over and depending the day I get something diferent. They have so many items that I love, their fried chicken, mussels, any of their salads, the mushroom pasta and the burger! Their drinks are good and strong, I also love their cider. Staff super friendly too.
Mussels were superb and served with crusty bread. Artichoke appetizer was tasty. Salmon with fennel was perfectly cooked and served with salad. Cocktails were refreshing. Good service. Didn’t order dessert but the sounded nice.
Cute place and energetic staff! I had the portobello mushroom sandwich and it was great! The tots were creamy inside, crunchy outside...perfect! They have indoor and outdoor seating great for these nice fall days! I liked the dark wood interior and twinkling white lights outside!
Excellent cocktails and delicious menu!! I just had a Bloody Mary with prociutto, cheese, and blue cheese stuffed olives!! Robin, our bartender, was the best! Really cool dude - he made delicious gin cocktails (especially a great Aviation) for my husband. Will definitely be back!!
This is my favorite spot in the neighborhood, where I've lived for over a decade. The staff are warm, fun, and attentive and the bartenders make great drinks. I saw a negative review recently from someone who said the bartender created a "hostile environment" and had an "aggressive tone." I was at the bar during this exchange and that is not what happened. The bartender merely reiterated a reasonable rule during a crowded happy hour; this patron then stewed over it and told off the bartender, who listened respectfully and didn't say a word. Nothing about the bartender's approach was aggressive. People have a habit of taking out their discontent on service staff so I'm here to correct that wrong, and to plug a great establishment!
Visited The Castello Plan recently with some friends. I right away noticed a welcoming ambiance complemented by the friendliness of the staff who greeted us. We then ordered some cocktails and appetizers, which arrived promptly. Everything we ordered was superb, but don’t leave without having their popcorn chicken and the tots. It is exactly places like these that make the heart and soul of NYC neighborhoods! Definite visit if you are in the neighborhood, but totally worth a trip from other parts of town.
I bring anyone from out of town here for lunch! One of the only places on Courtelyou that actually has a good sit down lunch. The vibes are great, the bartender has always been extremely friendly & knowledgeable, and the food is fantastic.
I, usually, go to Castello Plan for drinks and an appetizer. Yesterday, I ordered their burger for takeout. The burger was so delicious, I’m slightly ashamed to admit that I ordered it, again, today. I don’t have any pictures to show how great the food was. Trust me, try the burger. 😊
Loved this place - came here for an impromptu dinner last week and had wonderful cocktails and delicious food. We especially loved the mussels, the broth was unbelievably tasty, we got extra bread to soak it all up. Nice, cozy and warm atmosphere, staff were pleasant, had a very enjoyable evening here.
I have never had a better go to spot, after a long day they will give you a great thoughtful cocktail, like the best Manhattan, or any number of well balanced specialty drinks. The menu never disappoints myself or my partner. The staff is knowledgeable, fastidious, well trained. If you happen to be in the neighborhood, it’s a must, for coffee, a cocktail or a full meal.
The burger 🍔 was delicious and hearty! The owner is fun and engaging. The drinks were a great pour. The atmosphere is cozy and stylish. There's no bad choices on the menu. Why aren't you here yet?
Cozy place with excellent food. Was surprised by how quickly our food turned up, despite being perfectly prepared, including the steak and eggs, with the former cooked to a perfect medium. The latkes are more of a bird nest affair, but were wonderful. Everyone very happy with their choices, not the least me, with a fantastic plate of French toast. Outside seating was available and surprisingly pleasant.
Where do I even begin about this place? We are greeted by the wonderful dual of the Brother sister combo Cici and Gabriel. They started us off with some lovely cocktails, pineapple tequila, and then we went into their beautiful cocktail menu so many wonderful options presented with something that was more my speed but everything looks absolutely delicious. We actually came back two days in a row. The first day was only cocktail filled, but with all the wonderful food coming out of the kitchen it was mandatory for a second day. I ended up getting the croissant sandwich which was absolutely to die for. A fluffy croissant, scrambled eggs with cheese, avocado, sesame seed, and some beautiful bacon with the arugula and their special sauce. If I could give this place a higher rating, I definitely would definitely recommended for family and friends and all walks of life. I want to give a very warm thank you to Cici for her wonderful hospitality and her patience to take me through the menu and Cocktail list. It is hard to find good employees, and i must say her service was exceptional alongside Gabriel. I hope to see them on my next trip back to New York.
5 star experience at castello plan. The stuff were incredibly friendly and made our evening truly unforgettable. Super sweet and attentive people with always nice attitude, a smile and making you feel at the right place at the right time. Highly recommended. The pumpkins gnocchi and lava cake are irresistible 🤤 We will return for brunch!
I go for brunch here every once in a while and I enjoy everything. I have tried almost all the menu and have been satisfied each time, with both flavor and portions. The staff is nice and attentive and the whole space is really nice.
I dare you to find a better place in the neighborhood. Great staff. Great food. The best cocktails for miles. Cute and cozy atmosphere wherever you sit (including outside esp. during the winter - they understand the heat lamp necessity) This place nails brunch and is the perfect spot for lunch / dinner too because you can order a cheese plate to share or a big burger if you’re hungry. Don’t miss it.
Enjoy myself every time I go. The bottomless brunch is a good value. Each cocktail is made fresh - they even make the OJ for the mimosas... No mixers here! I've also been for taco Tuesday. I highly recommend the fish tacos. The service has been good and friendly each time. It's in the area and I am happy to support a solid local business.
This place is amazing! The food and service is incredible. I’m a super fan of their salad with chicken wings. Their chicken sandwich is divine and they make a righteous set of French fries. The music is on point and the wine is relaxing.excuse my pic. I ate Everything!🤣 This place is a total vibe, so come through 🤩
I was amazed how delicious and fresh everything was. My first visit here, so impressed with the taste and quality of all the food. Gimlet was perfect. Cappuccino was huge, beautiful and made just right. Pleasant, friendly service. I can’t think of a single negative!
I’ve lived in Ditmas Park some years ago but somehow never made it over here. That changed this past spring when my wife and I are visiting friends and stopped by here for a few drinks and some snacks before a dinner. The place is very warm and cute inside as well as its outside patio. We tried four or five different small dishes and everything was very yummy. Really loved the cocktail menu as it had several interestingly crafted cocktails that we thoroughly enjoyed Everything we ate was equally good and I would love to come back and try you more dishes that looked good and we haven’t had opportunity to order. The place was quite busy by the time we were leaving, but the weight staff were super on top of it and some of the more efficient service I’ve had in a while Thoroughly recommend
When I came in I just humbly sat at the table and was waiting for the guys to come for me. After two minutes nothing changed, but I decided to change the table for a more comfortable one. Ok, after a couple more minutes I was noticed and made an order. I was extremely hungry, so wanted something substantial. And I got this magnificent salmon. Probably one of best dishes I've eaten in the USA in a month. Big, tasty, juicy. Loved it, so the initial embarrasment was quickly forgotten.
The Castello Plan is a great hang out place troughout the day. Amazing coffee in the morning, tasty and healthy lunch, great after-work cocktails, lovely side terrace, great brunch food. The owner is a super nice and friendly. The team is professional and provide fast service. Highly recommended.
My favourite spot in all New York City!!! I love everything about this place- the food, the cocktails, the vibe, the music and the people! It feels like you’re spending time at your friend’s place and it’s absolutely adorable!!! Love you guys ❤️
The drink menu is always innovative and yummy, Emily and all the bartenders do a great job :) the food is great & it would be even betterrrrr if they put new stuff on the menu sometimes :)))))
I am a local to this place and it’s simply a perfect combination of food and drinks. The place is chic and has a vibe of a well groomed hipster, which is a gem in a quiet Brooklyn neighborhood. every drink I got so far was very tasty and well balanced. I love their one page menu for food, where all the dishes are so different and interesting. If you are near prospect park and want to have a bite and a drink to complement a healthy meal — choose no other than Castillo Plan.
Stopped by this local hole in the wall for a quick bite and a drink, loved it! I ordered the Georgia winter cocktail, a dz oysters and a lil bowl of their tots. They had a really good varietal of oyster, plump & juicy. The tots were not at all what I expected, I was envisioning cheap frozen potato coins but I was pleasantly surprised! They were 10/10 crispy, creamy and delicious. I would’ve ordered 40 more if I was that hungry lol will most likely become a regular here. Good vibes good food and a good playlist.
I love going here when I visit my friend in the neighborhood. Their cocktails are always so fun that it’s always so hard for me to choose! I love the enormous amount of outdoor seating too. The servers are always so friendly and personable. And as a vegan, I’m thankful that I can get lots of appetizers and the veganized version of their impossible burger. Pro tip: get the pan fried okra!
We’ve been coming here for years. The food is always delicious and the cocktails are good. We’ve tried almost the whole menu. One of our favorites is the clams. But the jerk wings are right behind. I love that you can go for anything, brunch, lunch, dinner, or cocktails and a snack. For cocktails, I recommend the painkiller, but their rotating signature list is great. They also now have dessert on the menu, which we always wished they had. It does get pretty busy on a Friday or Saturday night, so definitely reserve.
My favorite place for pasta & cocktails. Absolutely recommend Spring Tagliatelle with chicken, mushrooms and ricotta - that’s the reason why I will return again and again. Plus in my personal top - potato tots with cheddar cheese and chives (I even tried to cook it at home). Cocktails are tasty and quality. Very good place, recommend it!
It is funny...I have passed this place so many times and have eaten in other restaurants in the area, but I never gave this place a second thought. That is until I saw a posting about this restaurant on Instagram. This place is so cute and the staff is so nice and friendly. They have a pretty selective menu and the food I ordered came out fast, fresh and delicious. They also have a heated patio for those that are still not comfortable eating indoors. I will definitely be back soon, if not for dinner, but for brunch.😁
Reliably delicious oysters, great wine. The visuals of this spot are beautiful : fresh flowers on every table, beautiful wall art, and a well stacked bar. Come here for breakfast or brunch: avocado toast (with bacon) and a latte. Or come for dinner: a short menu boast some good eats, and I especially vouch for the burger and old fashioned. Seating is comfortable and sensible, with indoor and outdoor optional.
It's one of my favorite neighborhood places to go for lunch, brunch, or dinner. It never disappoints. The drinks are always on point. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The food is always tasty and guaranteed vegetarian options.
Love this place, definitely cute date spot! Have been a customer since 2011. Their drinks, wine list and coffee are delicious. The vibe and decor are lovely. Service and food haven’t been consistent over the years, so this is why it’s 4 stars. During all my visits here over the last 12 months food has been great and consistent with quality. Service does luck sometimes, but nobody is perfect. 😉
I've loved this place for years. They do great cocktails, the food rarely disappoints, the interior is nice and cozy when there isn't covid, and the patio is small but charming and great for an alfresco meal in the summer. I deducted a star because the service is consistently bad and has been for as long as I can remember. The wait staff seems to have no sense of organization and regularly forgets to take your order, doesn't check on you for long periods of time,or you get different servers waiting in the same table causing confusion. If it's busy you might want to skip the service headaches and go somewhere else but as long as it's not too crowded the cocktails, food and ambience are worth the service gamble.
Came for brunch. I liked the chilaquiles but they weren’t super flavorful and the chicken got a little dry. Chicken and waffles were okay, they used boneless tenders for the chicken and they weren’t quite as juicy and seasoned as I would have hoped. It was a bit busy when I went so service was a little slow and unresponsive, but all of the employees were very kind. It’s a little bit of a tight squeeze inside so keep that in mind.
Food was good. Music inside was a bit too loud for my taste. But they do have a patio. Maybe they were a bit too busy for staff, food took awhile to come out and while the waitress was very nice, she was bit slow w check , etc I had a Beet salad, daughter had the capresse salad and then we split the steak in red wine reduction. Also came with yummy potatoes and sauted spinach. Meat was a tad chewy. But plenty of food.
Very cozy and love the atmosphere. Some dishes are a bit overpriced for what they are, but overall a good meal and solid service.
Good food, tables à bit small and cramped. Excellent, pleasant service
Solid 4 stars. Seated right away on an early Friday night. Got drinks, and ordered, service to start was great, friendly and on it. Truffle fries and salad for the table were amazing and was really looking forward to entrees. I got the fried chicken sandwich with.... well more fries because they were really good. The fries that came with my sandwich were burnt? Like, fried, but then baked?? And the end were burnt? No idea, and totally not seasoned.... literally at all. My sandwich was good?? Fine, good. Also.... no seasoning. The stuff that was on it was good so like.....I had that. But then I was really hoping someone would come ask how things were so i could ask for salt...... didn't happen. Ate the sandwich, wished it had any salt.... like, salt things when they come out of the fryer....... then finally, I got to ask for some salt, and got to finish the other half of the chicken that fell out of the sandwich..... which was good!!!! Anyway, I know lots of people who live this place. I love that it's in the neighborhood. Good beers. Things that should be good. Maybe the kitchen could learn how to season. The rest of my table liked their food very much, but my wife is pretty anti salt, and her friend put ketchup on everything.
Nestled along Cortelyou Road in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood, The Castello Plan presents itself as a beacon of culinary charm, effortlessly blending rustic ambiance with a contemporary twist. The establishment’s heated patio invites patrons to linger, offering a cozy retreat that complements its inviting interior. The menu, while not extensive, is thoughtfully curated, showcasing a fusion of Italian and French influences. Dishes like the Butternut Squash Gnocchi, accompanied by oyster mushrooms, browned butter, parmesan, and sunflower seeds, highlight the kitchen’s dedication to harmonious flavor combinations. The Ricotta Gnocchi, paired with asparagus and truffle oil, further exemplifies this commitment. Brunch offerings are equally enticing, with selections such as the challah French toast, served with sour cream and plum jam, standing out as a testament to the kitchen’s creativity. The beverage program, featuring craft beers and inventive cocktails, complements the dining experience, inviting guests to indulge in leisurely afternoons or spirited evenings. Service is attentive, with a staff that balances professionalism and warmth, enhancing the overall dining experience. The ambiance, characterized by tasteful music played at a considerate volume, allows for intimate conversations without the need for raised voices. While The Castello Plan excels in many areas, there is room for growth. Expanding the menu to include a broader range of options could cater to diverse palates and dietary preferences. Additionally, ensuring that all dishes consistently meet the high standards set by the standout items would further solidify its reputation.
I had a craving for fried chicken sandwiches. So I looked up for a decent place that will deliver. Honestly, I lowered my expectations a bit because ordering fried chicken for delivery is quite tricky to expect the best product. But I was surprised that the chicken was not soggy with sweat but had a perfect texture and well seasoned. The pickled red onions and arugula were perfect in this stack. I’m giving it a 4 rating because I ordered to have fries with a particular seasoning and they missed that. Anyway, if you are looking to get good quality delivered food, I will highly recommend this spot!
Quite a mediocre food experience. The aesthetic is nice, but the food is just...bland. much of it felt like it needed salt. The mussels and oysters were both quite good, but both the pastas we had and the tacos were entirely underwhelming. Overall, for the price it was a bit of a let down, and feels like yet another high price restaurant in a neighborhood where only gentrifiers can afford it.
We've come here often for drinks (solid cocktails, interesting wine list, nice happy hour specials) and the service and ambiance are always top notch, really nice. I don't know what happened, but our dinner last night was so so bad. The salad was overwhelmingly salty and way too skimpy for the price. The mussels smelled strongly, to the point where we wondered if they had gone bad: their taste was subpar but at least not rotten. The chicken wings were dry with mediocre flavor, and even the chips seemed overcooked! It was so disappointing, we really couldn't believe how bad it was, and how expensive for the quality and quantity of food. Next time we'll just stick to the drinks!
Nice place. Waiter service was good. 30 minutes to get food on table, but the food was fresh. Overpriced. I paid $21 for spring gnocchi that didn't fill me up (very, very small plate), I had to get the beef taco ($5), which was decent. My friend got a burger ($16) with a few fries ($2) for cheese. They had a deal for shot & beer for $8 which wasn't bad. All in all, in conclusion, it wasn't worth the $82 bucks I spent for 2 people. This is a place you take a date on. Oh and the cocktail list was pretty impressive. Not your ordinary cocktails, its mixologist stuff. Averaging about 14 bucks each.
I keep trying this place but I am never impressed and always leave disappointed. Food always misses thr mark but drinks are ok. Staff provide great service though. The space is very tiny.
The food is not too bad honestly. Nothing wildly impressive about the menu, but it’s really not too bad. Decent portion sizes maybe over priced, but I don’t tend to mind because I like being able to dine out in my neighborhood. Drinks are pretty good too. I don’t know what it is about the server that feels so disingenuous, but I have to say I’m generally not impressed with their service. Our waiter seemed like he was trying to be polite but his tone didn’t match the words. We will probably go back just because the vibe is nice enough and the food is okay enough.
The service was amazing and very accommodating. The food however was quite dreadful. The mussels were under salted, and the bacon was almost raw. Literally half of the fried chicken sandwich was pickled onions, the salad was the best part. The tagliatelle was wildly bland, also under salted, and the olives were straight out of the can. The ricotta reminded me of cream cheese, and the pasta was over cooked. Only reason I give three stars, is for the service. Very nice staff.
10/2018. What happened to the food here?? We used to come nearly every weekend for brunch, we liked it so much. But this past summer the food got... Just not very good. The potatoes are mealy and bland, the mesclun has no dressing of any kind. Everything is just kind of blah. I hope they go back to their old, more flavorful cooking style. I don't think we'll come much anymore. I generally like this place. The interior design is very pleasing, and the food is good. The music is good but too loud, so I end up going less often than I would like to. It's hard to talk over. 12/2017 edit: The music volume during weekend brunch has been tolerable for the last few times we've been. It's nice to be able to talk without shouting. Thank you, I hope you keep it this way!
VAGUELY MEDITERRANEAN in its offerings, The Castello Plan is easy to miss surveying Cortelyou Road’s rich array of ethnic cuisine. The venue’s sole sign is eye level and a dull metal color the size of an overly large dinner plate, which is fully inconsistent with The Plan’s mix of small plates and smattering of light, inexpensive entrees. The food appeals, the drinks are pleasant and the seating — inside and outside, in what locals before gentrification surely saw as an alleyway — is cramped.
The restaurant is a great place to go for the atmosphere, it's very rustic yet unique. I got the rainbow beet salad, popcorn chicken, and steak. They were all good but the steak was too salty. My date had the salmon and it was overcooked she sadly didn't eat any of her food.
I’m never in a rush to write anything less than a stellar review, but the customer service during my first time dining here on 4/28 needed serious adjustments. I won’t be coming back. Me and my dinner date walked into an empty establishment at a very odd hour, 4pm, so you can assume it would remain on the idle side for at least the next 2 hours. We asked to sit in a booth which seats 4 maximum at this empty establishment, and they said “no” it’s for large groups. Ok, I can understand that. Ordered the steak frites and salmon with a side salad. Kindly asked the waiter if he could bring some ketchup for the fries when he has a chance. About 5 min go by, there are literally 4 diners inside the restaurant at 2 tables, and 2 waiters, and no ketchup. So the second waiter comes by to check on us. I realize I could use salt and ask her if she could please bring some by, so she does! Almost immediately. At that point I got tired of waiting so I just told her, “hey, so I asked the other waiter if they could bring ketchup to the table, sorry but could I ask you to bring some please?” She brings it by seconds later, and my dinner date looked over my shoulder and says that the first waiter was giving me a sort of death glare. He was too busy chatting with the other party to care about our table. Which is fine, but he should have apologized to me, not been such a baby. I have to defend the second waitress, she was nice and attentive and picked up the other guys slack, but I just didn’t feel very welcomed here. I wonder what caused the poor service??? The food also desperately needed seasoning. I NEVER ask for salt lol, that’s really saying something. Wouldn’t go back sorry
I was there for brunch today and ordered the steak and eggs. Unfortunately the steak was unseasoned and really chewy, and something felt off about it. I started to feel really nauseous about halfway into eating it, and then after I paid and left I rushed home to have diarrhea. I am a local so I'm pretty bummed to now know that this place clearly has poor health standards regarding food safety. Two stars instead of one because at least the waiter was really nice!
The food was okay but a little expensive, but the service was unbearably slow. An hour to get our drinks, an hour and a half for food. The atmosphere was nice and the staff was pleasant, but that wait is just too long. Edit: 2024. Walked in, went to the bar with a friend. Found two seats after a brief discussion with a patron about if the seats were taken. White guy bartender seemed annoyed so I joked "sorry for so aggressively inserting myself into the scene. I don't think I made friends with the bartender" He said "no. No you did not. Just roll it back" Friend said "maybe let's go somewhere else. Not getting a good vibe here" Bartender said, "don't come back" Okay.
The food is absolutely splendid, very good quality of ingredients and even thought the menu does not provide a lot of variety, the dishes the place offer are just delicious. I had to give them a 2 star rating based on my experienced, their customer service truly sucks; our server Joseph barely checked on us, our drinks were never refilled, we asked for napkins that were never delivered and we even had to walk to the bar to ask for the bill. During our dining experience we found a hair in our oysters, waited 15 min for the server to come to the table to bring the issue to his attention; The server did apologized that was it, a simple and vague apology. After this terrible experience I don’t think I’ll be coming back, and I recall stating that the food is great and indeed it is, but the portions are designed for a 9 year old and the price doesn’t match it.
I live in the area and have gone here numerous times. It’s close to me and I wanted to like it but i have had terrible service everytime I’ve been here. Wait staff or bartender are not attentive. Maybe it’s because I’m not white like everyone there. Not sure.
Walked in looking for a quick meal, and there were only 2 other patrons inside. The waitress told us we could sit anywhere when we opted to sit outside. We sat ourselves at a 4 top table (which seemed more reasonably sized) because the 2 top tables were very small (we are both quite thin). The bar tender immediately rushed out and told us we could not sit there and to move to a 2 top. We felt unwelcome and confused because the place was empty, and we weren't intending on taking too much time. Just a quick bite and a drink before a concert. The atmosphere was cramped and dark. We just left. 2 stars because the waitress was the warmest part of the place
I ordered the “tater tots” to split with my partner and it was really not anything like tater tots. I was not a fan of this. When I order something with a common name, I expect to be served that and not an artistic version of it? It seems like they have an issue with this though, reading a review about an “endive salad” being 95% arugula. Nonetheless, the not-tater tots were enjoyable enough, but felt like a ridiculous price to pay (about $11 or $12) for 8 mini potato balls filled with cheese and served with way too much chipotle aioli. The chipotle aioli was hot, but not really an aioli, either. Just really a chipotle mayonnaise. My iced mocha was good, but laughably, I was charged 75 cents for oat milk without being told it was extra when I was asked for my preference. This is Brooklyn, folks: just about every queer and lactose intolerant person orders oat milk. 75 cents is an absurd upcharge, especially when the coffee is served … well, how I would make it at home: in a mug or a jar, a few ice cubes, and a metal straw. For those two items, my bill was $20 (before tip). Will not be returning. +1 star for the friendly skeleton inside for the season.
I took my girlfriend here to celebrate a promotion and their $40 charcuterie board consists of a few razor thin pieces of cured sausage as well as few pieces of less expensive meats. There were an about 3 small cheese slices as well of cheese on par with Trader Joe’s. We had to ask for more bread although the amount of jelly spread given was not enough for the amount of food/bread on the platter. Was going to order an entree but the vibe was off. Extremely disappointing. Completely ruined a special day. Highly embarrassing.
This evening I had an awful experience at this restaurant - to the point that I will not be giving them my business anymore. I had called this morning and made a reservation for dinner at 6. I made it clear that we would be 4 people and a baby and that we needed to sit outside (as a pandemic parent we didn’t feel comfortable sitting inside). Having been at this restaurant before (and with my baby before) I knew space was tight which was why I called beforehand to make sure it was okay. When we showed up at 6 the front of house acknowledged that we had a reservation and a table. However, when we came in to go towards the back with the stroller both the bartenders stopped us and said very rudely that if we wanted to sit outside we could only sit in front of the restaurant, not in the back. When I asked to sit outside in the back they again rudely said that out front was the only option. Firstly, there was already a group seated out front and we made it clear we wanted to sit out back and only outside. Secondly, I had intentionally called earlier in the day to make it clear that we were a big group and a baby and needed to be outside. If they couldn’t accommodate us they should’ve said so on the phone. And they most definitely shouldn’t have been so rude to us in person. I was genuinely shocked at how I was treated - especially when I’ve been here before and with my baby. We were really looking forward to one of our few evenings out and this rudeness ruined it. I will never be going here again. What a shame considering I truly liked this place.
This experience was going so well good drinks and atmosphere although there was no happy hour and drinks were expensive. Not a problem though; we sat at the bar drank paid and overtipped. The Venue was empty and we moved form the bar to the table to finish our drinks. No more than two minutes later a blonde woman came over and asked up to move to so that a larger party could sit. This larger party was invisible she had us move for a imaginary not yet there party that has yet to appear
I am Sharing a review for a place I have been attending for years as I lived close by at one point. I decided to visit and sat at the bar for one. I walked in with an iced tea and sat at the bar for around 4-5 minutes. The bartender yells across the bar no outside food or drinks allowed. I said okay no problem, can I have a menu to order? The bartenders reply is I will not be serving you until you get rid of your drink. This created such a hostile environment based off a “rule” where there is absolutely no posting up in the restaurant or out front stating no outside food or drinks. I have no problem with their policy, especially if it’s posted but the tone and aggressiveness from their employee, who has worked there for years is completely unacceptable.
If you want your dinner under an hour try Dominoes across the street or any of the restaurants nearby. The drinks were so so and we were ready to leave because of the time it took to bring two pastas out. Don't expect much at this place, not in the amount of food or the quality of the drinks, or their ability to correct once you have waited for over an hour. The Gnocchi was decent but the Tagliatelle was missing the pesto sauce. Under such circumstances it is common practice to handle this by saying "we should let you know that our kitchen is a little backed up and it might take a while to get your dishes out. We will do our best though, and in the mean time please have an appetizer on the house". This is not their fault but I did have to kill a cockroach scurrying about on the sidewalk. I guess this is NYC though so I guess that goes with the atmosphere. Note to chef: get something other than canned olives, add pesto if that's in the menu, a little more salt. And waiter, ask if the guests need anything else, maybe salt and pepper. Also bring napkins with the appetizers. Also common practice.
I went there twice - weekday brunch time- ordering exactly the same thing. A simple bacon cheeseburger. For some reasons on both times, no bacon showed up. I had to mention that to the server as clearly they did not even notice and that brings to the first point. The service or the lack of it. On both occasions the place was not busy at all. I was the only customer the first time and there was just a table of four last time. Still....no napkin, water, utensils - unless you ask - or attention to a simple basic order. I am talking about the minimum expectations when you sit at a restaurant table. Both young ladies need some training or they just simply don't care. The burger was very disappointing. A substantial piece of meat that was unfortunately tasteless, no seasoning, overcooked/no juice, no sear, no kick, nothing..... like a piece of boiled meat or reheated, dried out ground beef. To make it worst the bun was soaked from the moisture of the stupid wet greens - tons of it! - that they put on the bottom. If I want a salad I would order one. Also the slice of tomato could use a bit of seasoning and love - we are no dogs. The bacon which arrived on the side when I was almost finished was incredibly salty. I was angry and had a tough morning, I ate most of it but it was almost an effort. I gave this place two shots and totally regret spending money at The Castello Plan. Not going back.
I had visited this restaurant and had a great experience. So, I returned several times. On my last visit, as I will never he returning to this establishment, I had the worst experience. I dined solo and sat at the bar. I ordered a burger with fries and a cocktail. After about 45 minutes I asked for a box for my leftover, as I had only eaten half of burger, and for the check. The manager herself handed me the box and the bartender handed me the check. I paid and asked where the bathroom was and proceeded to the restroom before leaving. When I exited the bathroom, I waived by to the bartender, who said have a good one, as I was walking about. As soon as I exited I realized I had left my to go box, I immediately turned around and went back in --presuming, I had left it in the restroom. The waitress said someone was in there, and I told her I think I left my box in there. I stood by the door until they exited, in the view of the manager and bartender. The occupant came out and low and behold the box was not in there, so I look back at the bar where I was sitting and there is nothing there either. I ask the bartender, and this guy plays like he has no clue what I am talking about. Then he says oh, I probably got thrown out, we didn't know where you were, I said dude, I was literally in the bathroom. Then he tries to say oh well you had left. I was gone no more than a minute. Guy acts like a complete jerk. No remorse, no sympathy, no care. I said okay well let me get my tip back, and he gets indignant. The Manager comes with a dry apology, saying the same thing, oh any food left gets tossed ...as if she is not the one who handed me the box to pack my food. Why would someone ask for a to go box of they wanted their food discarded? With the fake apology she starts getting upset and saying we will have to ask you to leave. At that point I asked to be refunded for my burger. She comes around physically from behind the bar as if to intimidate me. At this point I told them, I will be calling the police.
I had a very rude encounter at this restaurant tonight. I was on my way home from work and wanted a fulfilling dinner. I saw they had quesadillas on the kids menu and asked what the portion size was, since it’s meant for kids. The server told me it was a small size, and I asked her if I should maybe order 2 and she said yes. When the male server brought the food out (which I believe his name was Tom), I immediately realized one portion would be enough for me so I asked him to take back the second portion. It was untouched, and he said “why don’t you take it home?” I said I only needed one portion. He said “well I can’t give it to anyone else”, and I said “okay I’m sorry but I don’t need this much food”. He began raising his voice at me and immediately packed my food in a to go box, telling me to take it home and that he won’t take the second order off my bill. After eating my one quesadilla, he ignored me after I asked for the bill 3x. I knew he heard me because everyone else around me saw me calling him, and I was sitting near the front of the restaurant. I understand that not every restaurant takes food back, but I don’t know why he insisted on charging me for something I never touched, and why he was so passive aggressive about it. I was pretty polite, and I’m not sure if he was in bad holiday spirits but this was no way to treat a new customer and I will not be back again.
My partner and I had the weirdest experience at this place today. Maybe we are being sensitive, but this is the story- a regular customer came in and the servers set up to sing Happy Birthday. They started singing Happy Kwanzaa...just kidding. What does Kwanzaa have to do with anything? What was the joke? We were the only black people in there. Weird vibes. Letting my people know. We want to talk about the food- the jerk were not jerk flavor, it was generic, and the food quite honestly bland.
the waitresses are kind and helpful and the food was okay, but the cleanliness of the restaurant was unacceptable. the cups and the cutlery weren’t clean and when I told the waiter and asked for more, I was given new ones that were also dirty (it was a different set with dirt in different spots). I can’t overlook that
I have lived in Ditmas Park for nine years and have eaten at Castello Plan at least half a dozen times and have had generally pleasurable experiences. Most recently, my companion and I were accosted by a very rude employee. This person gave us an uncomfortable feeling from the time we sat down, and I don't know if this was due to things being universally tense right now, or if it was because I was Black (this employee, and the person I was with, were both White). However, I quickly made the decision to leave and this employee said "don't come back" in a very aggressive fashion. Needless to say, I will be following his advice. This interaction was the single most upsetting interaction I've had at a business establishment in my entire time in this neighborhood.
Castello Plan used to be good but the SERVICE IS AWFUL. Ordered food tonight and they gave the driver the wrong food. They said they would figure it out and call me back. No one called back so when I called THEM back, the answer from the guy on the phone was “He picked up the wrong food. Sorry.” So I guess that’s it? They make a mistake and good luck? No offer to help, send me the correct food, nothing. Cool restaurant man, good luck with it. There’s WAY better places that have opened up on Cortelyou AND they are nice. The food smelled awful anyway - don’t order the chicken sandwich. Yes it was the wrong order but it looked disgusting, soggy.
Ordered a burger for take out. Asked medium well and paid $2 for cheese. Burger was raw, cheese wasn’t there. Place used to care? I don’t know what happened but it’s not what it was before.
We came here on mother's day because we happened to be in the area. The menu seemed great and the restaurant had a good amount of people, good reviews online, so we figured we would try it. I came in to ask if there's space for five, two adults and three kids. I was told no, not for five, unless we wanted to sit at the long tall tables. I said that we can't sit there with young kids, they said that's all they have for five people. I looked around and found it odd that that is the only seating that they have available. There were two tables side by the door, two tables side by side outside, and then a few tables that looked empty outdoors towards the back of the restaurant. My wife then went to ask again and they said fine, we can sit outside. We tried to do that...but it got cold and windy before we even had a chance to order anything...or really have anyone come up to us. I then asked if we can take the tables indoors. There were now two other empty tables that opened up...so I figured let me go ask. I was immediately told no! I asked why not, it's the exact same amount of space as outdoors. They said that its because we had a stroller, unless I fold it. I said of course I could fold it! There was a woman and a child sitting there and overheard the conversation, she said that they're about to leave and that would give us even more space. The restaurant staff said ok, they will clean off the tables. We waited outside...for a while, nothing was happening. I asked the male waiter, he then said no, we have no space indoors, only outdoors and walked away. So I went inside and asked again, how come we are only being permitted to sit outdoors at two small tables when now they have 3 tables open side by side, if space is a concern. They said "we're short staffed." I understand if staff are frustrated when they are short staffed or whatever, but it really feels like we were being discriminated by the staff for coming with kids. And they were not even misbehaving or anything. It was completely ridiculous. And on mother's day at that!
We made an in-person reservation the day before, but when we arrived, the staff claimed they’d never heard of it and acted like seating us was a favor. No apology at all. Service was slow, the burger we asked to be well done came raw and bloody, and the mussels were undercooked. Then they added a 20% gratuity even though we weren’t a party of six, and still suggested adding another tip on top, seriously? Terrible service, unsafe food, and zero accountability.
I had a terrible experience at Castelo Plan on September 4th and will not be returning. My boyfriend and I arrived 45 minutes before closing (on a Thursday) and were told no cocktails would be served, only wine and beer, despite there being only a few couples there. After ordering wine, we were reminded multiple times about closing, which already made us feel rushed. We tried to sit by the bar, but one of the employees was slamming things around and visibly disgruntled, so we moved to a quieter spot. At one point, I noticed a roach, which was unsettling. When we moved to a round table that had clearly been cleaned, a staff member (blonde male) came over and raised his voice, saying the table was “never open to anyone” - something we knew was not true. Moments later, he sat there himself, drinking a cocktail angrily. The atmosphere only got worse: the music grew increasingly loud and aggressive, the curtains were pulled closed while we still had full glasses, and the check was slammed down within minutes of being served. The overall energy was hostile and unwelcoming, and we felt pushed out before even finishing our drinks. Hospitality is about making guests feel welcome, but this experience was the opposite. Very disappointing.
