This is our go to place for eating outdoors on beautiful beach days. The ocean view is fabulous and the plexiglas keeps the ocean breeze at bay. The umbrellas are strategically placed for shade and sun to accommodate everyone. We always get the mushroom appetizer - the best on the Central Coast! The clam chowder is great and I never have to ask for ice tea refills with more ice. We love the tacos, chicken or fish, and the fish and chips. This time, followed by an ice cream sundae. We love the staff and service! Don’t hesitate to visit this special place!
Went here on Valentine's day with the family. Food and service were great! Parking is very limited. Recommend going about 30 minutes before opening. Will stop by again next time I'm in the area.
Had a delicious lunch on our drive down Hwy 1 from Carmel! We wanted a view of the water and a patio and this fit the bill. The Cajun shrimp and scallop tacos were excellent, loved the slightly crispy tortillas and the jalapeño sauce.
Beautiful views, delicious food and drinks! this is a great stop on your trip to cambria. I highly recommend the half shell oysters if you like oysters. Delicious! Overall 5 stars, perfect service!
They don't take reservations. We got there around 5, opening time for dinner. Thirty minute wait, strange, as there were mostly empty tables. Maybe to stagger the kitchen duties? No problem, the bar was open, busy, but that makes sense. Ordered nice cocktails for us, and had a seat in the area across the bar. Very nice staff, seating us at our choice. Wait staff helpful and informative. Excellent seafood cakes for starters. Excellent dinner. Great 📸 views.
The food was good, not many great options for a dairy free person, but still everything was good and well cooked. Drinks were perfectly mixed. Best part was our server Ismael who made sure I didn’t end up with any dairy which is greatly appreciated due to a bad allergy. He was very patient and helpful which made my day. The view is beautiful as well, a great stop during our walk on the trail.
We ate dinner here last night and we enjoyed it so much that we went back again tonight for dinner. Our receptionist at the Sand Pebbles Inn recommended it to us. When we arrived we almost left for another restaurant. The exterior looked very ordinary and the interior was dated. But the receptionist was courteous and the sun was setting, so we stayed for dinner. Our waitress, Juliet, was courteous and helpful. I asked her for guidance on wine and she asked me what I liked. She suggested Opolo Mountain Zinfandel which I never had before. It was delicious with excellent aroma. I had cod tacos.and a side order of pan seared asparagus. I was impressed that both were cooked perfectly, neither the cod nor the asparagus was overcooked as is the case in most restaurants. My wife also enjoyed her salad and clam chowder. I am celiac and require a gluten free diet. They were able to accommodate me but the choices were limited. The kitchen staff was very efficient and the food came out quite fast..
We had a DELICIOUS meal at Moonstone Beach Bar and Grill! This is a popular spot as there were people lined up at the door before they opened for dinner! Lots of indoor seating, but it was a nice day so we sat on the patio that had plenty of coverage and views of the ocean. We started with the cajun shrimp and bay scallops on grilled french bread. For our main dishes, I tried the fish tacos and my husband had the salmon. Every bite was mouthwatering and we highly recommend this spot!
I will start with the negatives which are not a lot; The wait time can be long because everyone is trying to get seated. We waited like 50 minutes or more and the bar is small. We were on vacation and we didn't have the kids with us. But we had our little bit of wine while we waited, And once we were seated everything was very good. The food was worth it and delicious. I had a shrimp pasta which was amazing. We spent a long time eating and also admiring the ocean views. We also saw a man walking around who looked like the restaurant manager, We absolutely loved that. We have no complaints of the food or drinks. The girl at the bar very friendly and they were working so hard and serving a lot of drinks there. So if you can have the patience to wait I would recommend this place.
My brother Dave and I just last month made our annual pilgrimage to San Simeon (he lives in Vegas, I live in Santa Monica), where we get to enjoy some scenic hiking and sightseeing. His birthday was on a Monday, so I took him out for dinner to MBBG. Lola, our Hostess, was very nice in seating us and started things out perfectly. Our waiter Max was friendly, professional and timely. Food was excellent. I had the full-size Candied Walnut Gorgonzola Salad and the Health Nut Sandwich. Dave had the Carnitas Torta. We both loved our meals so much that we came back again on Thursday and had the exact same things to eat again. Sadly, Lola was not working that evening, but amazingly, Max remembered us and remembered our orders exactly without us having to tell him ~ I was impressed! Simply a wonderful experience from start to finish. To be totally candid, we ate here last year as well on a previous trip to San Simeon, and I left a poor review for MBBG because of a misunderstanding on my part. I now realize that I was being unfair, so I figured out how to delete my earlier review and did so. To be 100% clear, no one at MBBG asked me to delete my review. It was totally of my own accord. Keep up the good work, Lola, Max and everyone, and I look forward to eating here again on my next trip to San Simeon. I have included a photo my brother took of me just outside the restaurant. This photo shows the wonderful view of the ocean that can be seen from the restaurant at sundown.
Everything here is absolutely delicious without a doubt. It is not the cheapest place around, as a matter of fact, it's on the higher end. However, the food is completely worth it. They get busy very quickly, so expect a wait, lunch or dinner. Food portions are very good for the money. Staff was very courteous and attentive. Without a doubt, the best clam chowder I have ever had, hands down! Cajun shrimp tacos with jalapeno cream sauce were amazing.

We ate at this restaurant on Saturday night, my friends enjoyed their drinks which I only had water since I don't drink alcohol. We enjoyed our meals and the beautiful view of the ocean.
Cioppino is the best! Hearty, full of flavor, and comes with a piping hot French roll to dip. Market price

Fine outdoor dining area for watching sunsets, excellent food for the prices, wide selection. Recommend the tacos and salads. Expect to wait 30-45 minutes to seat. Nice wait-staff.

Delicious food, slightly higher prices than I would usually pay for similar restaurants, but I offer no complaints because it was very good. Generous portions.

Enjoyed another lovely meal here while doing a tour of the West Coast. Waited in the bar area (no reservations taken) which was relaxed with great drinks not excessively priced. Mushrooms appetizer…
Okay. Great location. Parking sucks. Lol. Had to wait about 20 min. Bartender was awesome while we waited. Drinks were great, served with a smile. Sat down. Waited several minutes. Then all of Sudden bread was put on the table, like where you come from? Not attitude, but no personality. Service a little slow. Food was good! 2 of us had seafood and crab legs! Great flavor, tasted fresh. The burger we had had a full salad on top of it, my son was like what the crap!. But meat was good. Over all good. 4 of us spent a C note and a half!
Lovely place to take in the incredible ocean views (in the warmth of heat lamps) and eat good food with lovely service. We came by 4:45 for a 5p opening and there was already a long line to get in. We were seated about 15 min after they opened at 5. We requested to sit outside and got a great table under a heat lamp so it was very cozy. My son loved the kids menu and the included scoop of ice cream for dessert! The service was excellent, and we really enjoyed the seafood options. The seafood cakes from the appetizer menu were a highlight. Lovely experience overall, incredible service.
Amazing service. Our waitress were great. We had 2 kids and they got their food out quick. I got the shrimp pasta and it was so good. Like the sauce and texture. Also got the chocolate martini, delicious! My brother got the fish and chips, and he said they were the best ever. Great place to visit!
I'm usually happy with the food, but this time I ordered the salmon special with rice pilaf and I didn't get traditional rice pilaf. It was like Spanish rice with pico de gallo salsa on top, no vegetable as a side. I probably wouldn't order that again. My margarita was good and the servers were very friendly. We got our food pretty quickly too.
Great little spot in small resort area. High quality food in unpretentious seaside restaurant with good ocean views. Large outdoor patio, as well as indoor seating. Varied menu, that also includes plenty of seafood. Some onsite parking with plenty of additional on the street. Service is attentive, while not being overbearing. Great choice when visiting Hearst Castle or exploring the central coast. Has been a small wait each time we have visited.
Great location! They have an outside patio that has heaters for cold nights. They also have blankets on hand if you're still chilly. It's directly in front of the beach with great ocean views. We had a big group but they couldn't fit us all in one table. I guess the biggest table they could configure was for 8 people only. So our group had to be split into two tables for dinner. So if you're a large party, just be aware of this. It was kind of weird that each table had two servers and not just one. So we had a total of 4 servers for the entire dinner party. Food was good. I had the Grilled Alaskan Cod Fish Tacos. Each of the two tacos was fully loaded! They do not skimp on what they put in there. For dessert, try the Raspberry Cheesecake. The raspberry is mixed all throughout and not just placed as a topping.
Food was pretty good! Coconut shrimp were the star! Super light and fluffy and great taste. I had the clam chowder bowl, the soup was amazing but the bowl was ok, husband had one of the burgers he loved it. And you can never go wrong with molten lava cake. I also love that they have so much overflow for waiting for a table. Very considerate as I understand wait times can get long.
Slaw bowl was very delicious, this is my first time trying slaw bowl and I love the feeling of the beans melt into the rice. The pulled pork on top was amazingly seasoned and cooked. The grilled chicken sandwich was a bit singed but still crunchy and tasty! Love that they put a lot of lettuce in it. We gave it a 4 stars was only because the waitress served guests who arrived later than us first. Other than that all things were perfect.

Moonstone Beach Bar & Grill is one of the top places when you research best restaurants in Cambria. I was extremely disappointed. Hostess didn’t share that I couldn’t order food from the bar so I went to the bar, ordered a drink, sat there and asked for a menu. Then was told I couldn’t. It was a 50 minute wait for a table. I asked the server at my table what he recommended as it was my first time. He recommended the shrimp and scallop tacos and the spicy chicken pasta. I got the pasta. What a disappointment! There was barely any chicken in it. Maybe 4-5 bite size pieces. For $30 i expect a lot more! Luckily I had extra waters at my table since mine was never refilled. I ate 3/4 of my meal before I was asked how it was. Way over priced for what you get! Not sure if I’ll come back!

The location and atmosphere was lovely. We were surprised that the menu was more of a general restaurant, rather than concentrating on seafood. We had appetizers and wine rather than an entree.

My cousin and I are from Europe and were looking forward to the food because we were hungry. They say hunger is the best cook. Unfortunately, by European standards, the food was on par with a mediocre snack bar, which would cost a maximum of $40. We were disappointed and went home $100 lighter. We absolutely love the landscape here. However, the food culture cannot compete with Europe. We find most American people to be very friendly. We are happy to be here, but we miss the food from home.
Staff recommended Cajun chimp and bay scallop served over grilled french baguette. Sadly three pieces of grilled bread soaked in soup sauce served soggy with tasteless shrimp and scallop. Candid walnut salad was very average with little greens 🥬 (don’t let the photo fool you) mostly walnuts . 🍸 was unremarkable I was too hungry to care after long drive but would not recommend

So it was my wife and I weeding night. We had been recommended this restaurant by many friends and family, and boy was it a let down. I've worked as a chef for 20 years and I've never been so disappointed by a front of a house manager in my life. I ordered the Cajun chicken pasta and it was so hot with spice it cut lines in my mouth. When my wife let the server know he was very polite and took it from the table, after about 5 mins the watier brought the pasta back saying his manger had told him he couldn't take it back and asked if we wanted to talk to the manager. Wife said yes, he comes over and says " ya can I help you" we explained the situation and he said it says spicy on the menu. Im all about spice but the scolving level is a thing, and then said it was a problem with food cost and that he wouldn't take the pasta off usually but sense it was a special night he would. First off never bring a dish back from the kitchen, second dont talk to me about food cost I've been a chef for 22 years and I can tell you the pasta is highest yield item charged 22 dollars and cost maybe 3 and im being generous. This manager ruined my weeding night and gives restaurant a bad name, and it goes to show the cooks dont taste there food. In a town where the median age im sure is late 40 and older something that spicy isn't a thing. I will never be back and will make sure everyone i know, knows not to go. If the owner would like to talk I would love to but it's font of the house mangers like this guy that causes restaurants to close, stay away McDonald's drive thru attendees act better than this manager.
