Great food , great location right at the beginning of everything
Good place. Good food. Pretty busy. Not very spacious but definitely good food. Only bad thing is they only have 1 restroom and sink yo be able to wash your hands. So even if you are not using the restroom you need to make a line for it.
A fabulous little cafe to get breakfast in Carmel. This was truly one of the best tasting breakfasts I've ever had, and I'm very picky about breakfast. The eggs were perfectly cooked, the pancakes were light and fluffy and the sausage was delicious. My Belgian waffle was superb, and the waitress (can't remember her name) couldn't have been more friendly. I would eat there every day if it were in my hometown.
Cash Only. There are 2 MUST REVISIT places every time that I come here: one is Patisserie Boissiere for their French onion soup and salad combo, and the second is Katy's Place for breakfast. They have over 15 variations of Eggs Benedict, everything from a more traditional style to a lobster eggs Benedict. They can also do the same dozen styles but in an omelet. The 2 of us shared the corned beef eggs Benedict and pancakes short stack. My favorite must-have is their huge, fluffy buttermilk pancakes with a side of Canadian maple syrup. OMG. Our 2 pancakes were big enough for the 4 of us to share. One the best. Great service. But CASH ONLY.
Cash only. They don't tell and the signs are not on the entry door, but it is cash only. The eggs Benedict are what brought me to this spot and I was not disappointed. The wife ordered a ranchero breakfast and it was I little different then I'm used to seeing, but the wife loved the taste and the flour tortilla looked homemade and awesome. We also ordered some the famous pancakes and I'm glad we shared them cause they were huge. Totally recommend this place for breakfast.
Update: consistency is key. Lance Barrow Omelet is still delicious. Weekday mornings are much easier to get in than a weekend. What's not to like? Okay, cash only is kind of a downer, but not an end of the world situation. You can't take large dogs in. But it's a tight stinging area. I can't imagine servers being able to get around when the place is packed. My biggest gripe is no to go orders. They changed this in the last two years, because we would order and enjoy our food from our hotel room. It was worth it. Anyhow, onto the food. It's very good and very filling. We enjoyed the Lobster, King Crab and Bay Shrimp Omelet. Otherwise known as the Lance Barrow. It also has Tomatoes and Spinach. The sides were Potatoes and Toast. If the ingredients didn't get you excited, I'm done. It's good. My daughter enjoyed the Chocolate Chip Pancakes with Bananas. She enjoyed them thoroughly. Orange Juice is freshly squeezed. The waitresses are attentive and greet you properly. Fyi - The Eggs Benedict are no joke either. Suggestion, get there early. Anything after 9 am will probably be a long wait.
This place is odd. My elderly mother and I arrived at 9:29 am and they told us they were about to close. We were shocked and have never heard of a restaurant that stops serving breakfast at 9:30 in the morning. They still allowed us to order so we put our order in quickly. Mom ordered pancakes that were huge and fluffy but had absolutely no flavor. I ordered a ham and cheese omelette that was good. When it came time to pay, we were aware of their cash policy but were short on the cash ($48 for two breakfasts-steep!) so I ran to the ATM. Paid our bill and closed the place down with the staff by 10:00 am. Won’t go back because of the strange hours, mediocre food, and strange staff. They seemed put out they had to serve one additional table before they closed at 9:30, but we were thankful they allowed us to put in an order because we were hungry. Yin/yang experience for us.
CASH ONLY, which they didn't tell us till we went up to pay and we had to go to an ATM a block away. Food was really good, massive portion sizes, could barely finish one huevos rancheros between two. Some of the other stuff looked pretty pricey though. Coffee mug had a lipstick stain and a kid spilt water everywhere which didn't get cleaned up. Inside was really tacky but outside was super cute.
Katy’s place is located in the heart of Carmel-by-the-sea! My wife and I decided to try this restaurant on our last day! We decided to dine in (They do have a nice outdoor seating area as well)! The breakfast was great and very filling! We were satisfied with our choice of entree! We wish we were in town long enough to try some of the other menu items as well! The only downside to this place was that they only accepted cash! Not to many people just carry cash in the times we are living in! This is hurting the business! Especially if you have tourist coming into the city! I would reconsider why you are only taking cash and not allowing people to pay via credit card!
I was looking forward to a very enjoyable breakfast I was looking forward to some of those delicious-looking pancakes unfortunately mine were large and thick and sturdy. I brought it to the attention have the key waitress. She came back and told me as far is there a concern there's nothing they could do about it. Normally when I do this it is for the benefit of the restaurant. But with these prices I felt that they could either make me another pancake more fluffy. Or make an adjustment on the bill. They did neither also to take note if you order their coffee. It is nothing special to shout about. It is just a cup of coffee, but it's going to cost you $6. Later I went to Starbucks, it was about close to $4. I'm just letting you know when you go there, have a little bit more understanding than just a cafe standing behind a reputation that delivering something different at times. And at least in this case would not Bend to the customer
Food was OK, so was the service. Not the best. Plus the waitress tried to charge us $6 for tap water. Thankfully the kind man at the register was able to get that fixed for us because it felt like someone trying to dishonestly pocket more money and I’m sure she does it on other bills because she knew exactly what was wrong when I started questioning the bill. Seems a bit sketch and we won’t be back. Better places around that operate with honesty and integrity. The man at the register deserves a raise. He was kind and helpful.
I would keep looking for another place if i were you! Cash only makes it very inconvenient for those traveling and dont have cash at hand. I have to be honest, but the huevos ranchers had no authentic mexican flavors. Not sure if they are meant to be American huevos ranchero but anyways, if not, there was not. Sorry but I would come back again.
CASH ONLY. Overpriced, low quality, and frankly insulting to customers. If I could give it 0 stars across the board I would. A major tourist trap that should be avoided for breakfast at all costs. We were seated and immediately asked for coffee with a non-dairy creamer due to a serious dairy allergy. The waiter responded in a dismissive tone, said they did not have any non-dairy option, and made a face. Given the allergy, this was not a trivial request, and the attitude alone set the tone for the meal. The menu itself is unwelcoming: no substitutions, cash only, and no split checks. That combination feels less like a policy choice and more like hostility toward customers. In 2025, refusing basic accommodations while also limiting payment options is simply not customer-friendly. As for the food, I ordered a hash with potatoes. The potatoes were passable but the portion was small. The hash itself was served in a separate dish, extremely greasy, and completely lacking in flavor. Nothing about it justified the price. Overall, this was a disappointing experience from start to finish — poor service, rigid and unfriendly policies, and mediocre food at an inflated cost. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere for breakfast.
I do not recommend this place because it is extremely disappointing. Cash is rolling in… so many people who are unsuspecting tourists stumble into what is a culinary disaster! Carmel unfortunately has low food quality. Try ‘Winston’s’ in Pacific Grove for a fabulous breakfast with free ‘real maple syrup’ and delicious pancakes without having to call them ‘famous’ on the menu.
In a town full of places charging luxury prices for mediocre product, this was the most egregious example we experienced. The food quality was far below what you'd expect from a cheap diner in a small town, but it was one of the most expensive breakfasts I think I've ever paid for. The eggs seemed like they were processed/bottles eggs, not real/fresh eggs. And the bacon was horrible - like a flavorless potato chip? Absolutely do not recommend. And they are cash only, which adds an extra layer of inconvenience to something that isn't worth it if it was convenient.
Avoid this place – total tourist trap. This was one of the worst dining experiences I’ve had. First, be aware that this place is cash only, they don’t allow split bills, and refuse to provide an invoice — which is suspicious and likely a way to evade taxes. I sincerely hope local authorities take a closer look. The service was incredibly poor. They messed up my order, charged me for an item I never ordered, and then made a huge fuss about removing it — even though it was clearly their mistake. The food quality is subpar, definitely not worth the price. On top of everything, I accidentally left my sunglasses on the table, and the server, who clearly saw them, chose not to return them. I only got them back because another customer pointed them out as I went back to correct the bill at the cashier. This place survives off unsuspecting tourists. Don’t fall for it. There are far better places around with honest practices and decent food.
The food was good , but the behavior was not . We felt a sense of racism there, it’s a cash only restaurant so after the food was done , we got the receipt and asked the person for collecting the cash because we saw a previous American couple paying for their order and the waiter coming to their table and collecting the cash . But when we indicated several times to them., no response , we finally paid at the counter ourselves. It’s not a big deal for us , but it’s not good bejng treated differently.
