We had a great outdoor eating experience at Matchbox. I always loved their DC location and this was no different. Chicken pesto pizza and wings were great and they had an amazing veggie fruit cheese tray with peanut butter for our infant son.

Great place near many upscale shops to stop for a bite and a drink. The crabcakes have fillers, but are tasty. Good beer selections, and dessert options.

The atmosphere is such a nice vibe, they did a great job decorating. The food was outstanding. We ordered the spinach and artichoke dip for an appetizer, which was one of the best dips I’ve tasted. Most are watery but this one was thick and full of flavor. I would recommend ordering it with the bread (you get to choose between bread or chips). Our server was fantastic- friendly and attentive. Would highly recommend.

I haven’t had matchbox in a while, my food was great, drinks “poppin”. I’ll be back, s/o to Dajah she was super attentive, and great, I had my grandmother tag along and she loved it.

I had the best experience today at the bar with belle. She checked on me thoroughly and held nice conversation about her Thanksgiving plans while being knowledgeable about the beers. I will be back

Dajah was very attentive, it was my first time there and I questioned everything. She was patient 5 stars for service…..pizza was a little wet but I loved it.

This place is nice and lowkey! Perfect dinner date before a movie! Thank you to the server Dajah helped with all of the questions

Came in lastnight and was immediately sat at a table. Service was fast and efficient. We ordered the salmon and a sampsons burger and it was a 10/10. Dajah was our server and she was fantastic. Definitely worth it. Will for sure be back!

We are from N.c. and we had the pleasure of dining here and Dajah was our server. She was friendly, efficient and made sure to meet our every need. You can tell that she genuinely cares about her customers. The Sampson burger was incredible. I highly recommend stopping by to see Dajah and trying their delicious food.

Warm greeting upon entering this fine establishment. Within moments I was seated and ordering pleasantly with the friendly server, I think her name was belle, . I promptly ordered while sipping my black coffee and soon thereafter my food arrived. The food was awesome as was the service. Will return again

I've been here twice and the food and service was great both times. Dajah is great and very knowledgeable of the menu making ordering easy. I will definitely be back!

Stopped by here by coincidence. I had to get my phone repaired right next door. I was starving. So I sat and had some pizza and a few drinks. The pizza was incredible and I the drinks were great too, I really was so appreciative of Dajah and her service. Especially after breaking my phone. She really cheered me up!

A group of us came in before the wicked premiere and due to traffic we all couldn’t arrive at the same time but they were so understanding and I have to say the service was amazing. We got a couple pizzas and drinks. The wings were also amazing! We sat with Dajah and thanks to her and the team we will definitely be returning!

The garlic chicken pizza was tasty, but the Fettuccine Alfredo wasn’t what I expected. The staff were friendly and helpful, but service was a bit slow since only two people were working. Overall, the food was decent.

Came in for lunch with family. There were two tables with patrons when we got there but then got busy within 15 mins. Unfortunately, only one server and one person manning the bar. Server was quite good but with the lunch surge, most of the food came close to room temp. Food was good but definitely could have been better served hot I don't fault the server as she tried her best to run the floor. Should really have someone bussing and helping bring food out at the very least if only one server working the floor. Would recommend "the pig" if you like a lot of meat on your pizza. The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was good. Ribs were "ok", again warm, not hot. The Sampson burger with the fried Mac and Cheese was actually quite delicious.

This was our first trip to Matchbox in Charlottesville. They have a nice outdoor dining area so we elected to sit outside. We arrived at 5:30, just in time to enjoy the happy hour specials. Currently, happy hour is Monday-Friday from 3:00-6:00. We opted for the mini burgers and spinach and artichoke dip, which were both happy hour specials. The mini burgers are served with onion straws, pickles, and ketchup. The burgers were good, even though some were medium and others well done. My favorite part of the dish was definitely the onion straws. They were light, crispy, and not greasy. The spinach and artichoke dip was good as well. I would definitely order both dishes again. Our server was attentive and friendly. The other staff seemed friendly as well. Many stopped by to say hi to our puppy.

I didn't know there was a Matchbox in Charlottesville until this week. I have been to the one at Potomac Mills a few times, so was excited to see one closer. My mom, daughter, and I went for Sunday Brunch and it was very good. It was hard to pick what you order as many things sounded good. If ordering the All American Breakfast that's says comes with strawberries, it was actually only one half strawberry per slice of french toast, was expecting more than that. Everything was delicious especially the potatoes. We went at noon and it wasn't crowded, we were seated right away. On a side note...check out the bathroom....the female one anyway is pretty cool but could use a bit more light for older eyes.

The restaurant was good. The overall experience was a little clunky. Menus dirty and worn didn't match the well manicured website, that asks for the specific area you are going to dine in. The atmosphere was a little underwhelming. The food was good, the prices good. The service, we had a new server she was very good for her first night. You will not be blown away by the restaurant but you will have a good experience.

Got the smallest portion of fish and chips I have ever seen in my life. My buddy and I both thought they had brought out the kids portion. For 23 bucks, I expected way more. In the photo some fried had been eaten but that's all the fish you get. Might as well give us 5 fish sticks and call it a day! Ridiculous.

Looking for a good hamburger and a beer! The bistro hamburger was cooked perfectly! It just didn't have any discernible cheese! Very small and bun was stale! I did enjoyed the beer $10 for a pint ! The menu listed the hamburger at $17 but they charge me $18! Nice atmosphere! Service was quirky youthfulness! I didn't feel connected but she did a good job! Very responsive! My wife loved the crab cake sandwich at $25! I think burtons burger is much better! We chose the place because it was convenient located! After spend $75 for ver mediocre food, I was a little disappointed! I think I could find something i could like at an affordable price! The fries wend beyond pedestrian quality! Zero quality! The sad part was I was still hungry afterwards! The waitress certainly try to up sale ! It just gave me a blah feeling!

Got a pizza to go. Like some other reviews stated, the pepperoni is burnt or charred. I happen to like that. So if you don’t, don’t order it! Crust was decent, charred a little as well. It’s a very light pizza so I’d say slightly pricy for what it is, especially since they forgot a topping I paid to add on. But, convenient to my hotel across the street. Not bad if they remembered the chopped garlic but I didn’t see or taste any. The crumbles in the picture are the sausage, crushed red pepper and Parmesan. Not garlic.

3 stars because sometimes the pizza here is hit or miss. I’ve been here before for their pesto chicken pizza, and it was very dry (both the chicken, and the lack of sauce). But, today I got the beyond sausage pizza, and it was actually quite good - I also always recommend eating it with their ranch. I would not recommend the Porky Fig Pizza - way too many large blue cheese crumbles that drowned out the other flavors on the pizza (I regretted getting that pizza at all and would not get it again). But, they have other items on their menu that are quite good, like the crab cake sandwich, and I heard that the chicken Alfredo is good. Their cocktails are also good too, so I’d recommend stopping by for the happy hour. Atmosphere is really nice, both inside and outside. Pretty bistro lighting inside and outside, and fire heating outside for cool nights. Taken together, I give it 3 stars, and would give it 4 if the pizza stayed consistent.

Food - 4/5 Value - 2/5 Atmosphere - 4/5 Service - 4/5 The pizza and the convenience of the area is really the main draw, I would say. There’s nothing in particular that makes this an interesting place, it’s decent food and some options are reasonably healthy, but it’s very overpriced.

The food was decent but the portions seemed very small for the price. Paid 33$ for 6 wings and one oversized meatball (and that was with a veterans discount added to the bill). Service and atmosphere was really good though. If I am a solo diner like I was on this day, I'd definitely go somewhere else more cost friendly...

The mini burgers were pretty good, the Cobb salad was okay. Would have been better if I could ask for a side of BBQ but the waiter was never around or really checked in on us during the meal.

Food was okay/good but a small portion for the money. Other table guest were fine with theirs. Service was good and fairly quick. Atmosphere was sportsbar sorta but not what I expected, music was too loud for the few guests, might be fine if they were busy.

The starter: 4.5/5 was the best on the table unfortunately. Pizza(porky fig): 3.5/5 not bad but it was overcooked Ribs: 0/5 super dry and unpleasant piggy flavor/ cornbread tasted like has be dropped into the water/ coleslaw was not flavored and really not fresh at all. Dessert: 2/5 textures was weird and watery Service: 2.5/5 I believe they are short staffed, I understand it might take longer for the food waiting time. However, I don’t understand why not take away the empty plates and put the dessert under the pizza rack. The flies also are super annoying.

The ambience was great, the server was good, but the food was not. I think this is the first time I have tasted chicken wing this bland! The taste of the shrimp platter was okay, however, for $21 look at the quantity of the shrimp platter and decide if you would like to give it a shot or not.

I came here for dinner, and I have heard that this place was recommended, so came pretty excited. I ordered baby back ribs, a margarita pizza, and 3 mini burgers that were served with a LOT of onion rings. The baby ribs were actually pretty good, the sauce and the ribs gave out a great taste, but unexpectedly, the amount was not a lot. Also, the mini burgers were a little juicy, but not the best. The margarita pizza was normal; but a little burnt..?

There were 3 of us dining in for dinner tonight. We were sat immediately for dinner. The food was very good. We got 1 “16” inch pizza and table bread. We had plenty of food even was able to bring some home with us. The customer service was absolutely horrible. The lady serving us look to be younger with blonde hair. She was very very rude and intentionally ignore us multiple times. She was too worried about hanging out and chatting with her friends sitting in a table in the back. I ran out of my drink and it took her at least 10 minutes to refill it. We asked for a check and 15 minutes later she never brought it. She would walk past us multiple times and purposely ignore us, including turning her whole head the opposite direction like she did not see us. We ended up having to go up to her and demand for our check. There was also a radio station there. That was Very loud and noisy. We would have liked to know that before we sat down and ate. It was like we had to yell across the table to be able to hear one another. Definitely do not recommend going to this place.

Highly, HIGHLY disappointed. Our family ordered via GrubHub, and my plate was the $25 Miso Salmon. What I received was a slab of fish burnt on both sides. I tried to pick out pieces that were okay, but whatever wasn't burnt had little flavor (I suspect because of the overcooking). My husband and had a burger and my son had the shrimp, and while they said both were decent they certainly weren't worth the high price point. Perhaps in person the burger and shrimp would have been better.

**Disappointing Experience – Would Not Return** I rarely leave negative reviews, but our visit here was incredibly frustrating from start to finish. Despite there being only 1–3 other tables in the restaurant, it took nearly an hour and a half for our food to come out. Considering it was Father's Day, I would've assumed they would be better prepared. To make things worse, drink refills were non-existent. On the rare occasion the waitress did refill a glass, she only filled it halfway. No ice- warm water. She also rarely checked on our table after dropping off the food, except to drop off the check. Our table of 6 people all had empty glasses during the meal. As for the food: the fries were cold and clearly tasted like they came straight from the freezer. My “side” of coleslaw came in what looked like a tiny dipping sauce cup—barely two bites. And the pizza was awful: it had a very weird and distinct taste. Definitely not worth the wait. Overall, the service was inattentive, the food was below average, and the experience was one of the worst I’ve had in a long time. I won’t be back, and I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

This was the worst experience I've ever had a restaurant! We got there at 2:30 some people didn't even get drinks til 4:00. We were there on Fathers Day and it wasn't even that busy!! After 2.5 hours some people in our party still hadn't received their food. That food we did receive was unseasoned, half frozen , hair on it, overcooked... a complete disaster!! After waiting for over 2.5 hours we just decided to leave, still with some people never receiving their food . We also had to pay a bill higher than we should have for their lack luster service, as we didn't think we should have to pay the amount that they asked for according to all the mistakes that were made on their part!!! I would never go to this establishment or anyone affiliated with them again!!! Please don't waste your time, money or taste buds to this place!!!! THE WORST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My husband ordered some sliders as well as fries for lunch. In addition to waiting nearly two hours for his food, he didn’t receive his order of fries and was then charged for said fries. Among speaking to the manager about not paying for the fries he did not receive, he was told they would not remove the fries from his bill and made him pay for them, on top of them already adding a tip to his bill. If their service is this poor, I imagine that’s why they automatically add a tip, otherwise no one would ever leave one, and who could blame them.

This is normally our go to when we come into town. It’s been about 9 months since our last visit. Everything about the visit was terrible, other than the waiter who was great. First: they are advertising happy hour, but no menu available…. The waiter kindly went over everything that was offered. Second: my husbands beer was flat and my beverage was mostly liquor. Third: my husbands chicken sandwich was burnt, to the point he refused to eat it. He sent it back, and when the next one arrived it’s obvious the grill isn’t being cleaned correctly, he said it tasted like cigarette ash. I ordered garlic chicken pizza, and some pesto thing came out. I was starving so decided to just eat it. Fourth: bathrooms were so dirty, cobwebs (real ones not Halloween), bugs, no toilet paper, dirty floors, no seat liners. I don’t know if there is a change in management, but I’m sorry to say we will not be returning. Not to mention the whole staff was sitting on their phones, when we were being sat the guy didn’t even say a single word to us. The music was so loud my husband and I couldn’t even talk. Our waiter was great. Understanding, nice, well mannered. He was staying very busy and was attentive. Our experience was not worth $60.00.

So. Bad. My dad and I split a honey pepperoni and a chicken pesto. The pepperoni would have been fine except it was DRENCHED in honey so it was ruined. The chicken pesto was akin to a Mediterranean wrap- the chicken was in large strips and was bland - it could have been chicken strips from a pre-cooked chicken strip bag in a grocery store freezer section. Same with the crust of both pizzas - it was like cardboard just like a grocery store freezer crust. The pesto was the only fine thing on the pizza because they used sandwhich tomato slices! Not cherry tomatoes. What is the point? They have zero flavor and cooking them does nothing. Also very very bad service. The waiters were nice but we were waiting to be seated in the empty restaurant for like 15 min and while we were eating we saw other people waiting get tired and walk out of the store. Our table service also sucked. My mom was able to get a gf pizza and liked her chicken pesto she said.

We drove two hours for my birthday, as a surprise from my girlfriend to spend time in the city and she had picked this restaurant and while our server was wonderful and very attentive, the overall experience was extremely disappointing. Partway through our meal, my girlfriend discovered a moth inside her ranch sauce while eating her pizza. She quietly called our server over (who handled the situation very respectfully), but when he tried to get help, it seemed like no one was paying much attention to him. Eventually, a manager came over, but his attitude was very nonchalant. He asked if there was a moth in the food, and when we said yes, he simply said he’d get a new pizza—no apology, no concern, and no empathy. It honestly felt like he didn’t want to be dealing with the situation at all. My girlfriend then had to wait almost 30 minutes for her replacement pizza while the rest of us finished eating. When it finally came out, it was missing the avocado she had ordered—and when it was added later, the avocado was brown. By that point, she just had to ask for a to-go box since everyone else was already done. Our server did his best, but this was not his fault to fix. The way management handled the situation completely ruined what was supposed to be a special birthday dinner. A free pizza at the end didn’t make up for the lack of care, apology, or attention to detail. We left feeling really disappointed, especially after driving so far with high hopes.
