My boyfriend and I visited for dinner on Valentine’s Day and the food was excellent. Service was even better. Kerrigan and the other staff were so friendly and welcoming and kept us laughing the whole evening. I had the scallop pasta dish and was really blown away by the bread pudding dessert. This is a perfect place to bring the whole family to enjoy a cozy meal after a day on the slopes. Kudos to the Fullerton staff!

We went to the charming restaurant for dinner. There was a fantastic piano player with an amazing range pleasantly accompanying our meal at the perfect volume for our enjoyment and conversation. The service, ambiance and food were all top notch. We shared the onion rings, calamari, Brussels and beet salad for appetizers then we all enjoyed our meals, including the clam chowder, clams casino linguini, salmon, cauliflower/garbanzo dish and a few others. For dessert we preferred the maple bread pudding to the flourless chocolate cake. The cocktails, wine and coffees were all delicious as well. Make sure to make reservations as it’s not a big place. We’ll look forward to going back when we’re in the area!

Under new management (absolutely lovely people!!) and the food is fantastic! Imaginative new menu, and they’re careful about gluten allergies. Everything fresh and well seasoned. The crispy Brussels sprouts were YUM! All desserts made fresh on site daily. Thrilled to have the new menu - we’ll be back!!!

Beautiful, old building, including the rooms. A one of a kind experience, and a small, local business. Breakfast is basic and self-serve but good: coffee, juice, bagels, muffins, fruit, and yogurt. There aren't fridges in rooms, but there's one for guests to use off the lobby. Ask the manager. Nothing about the Fullerton Inn or its restaurant is accessible, due to it being in an older building. If you aren't up to at least a few steps in the door and one flight of old, uneven stairs up to the room, this might not be the place for you.

In the heart of Chester VT. Great location! We dined on the front porch and was the perfect atmosphere for date night.

Situated in the center of Chester, VT, the Fullerton Inn is a quaint, historic hotel with such charm. With no elevator, this would not be a good choice for handicap people. The rooms are clean, and comfortable. The lobby has plenty of tables with seating, and overstuffed couches to enjoy the large stone fireplace. Holiday music plays to put you in the Christmas mood from Thanksgiving and on. We had a free and filling continental breakfast and they serve lunch and dinner in their restaurant Tuesday through Sunday. We will be back to stay again soon.

While we didn't stay here, we only had dinner at the Fullerton Inn. Food was good and service was very good. Our waitress was very sweet and caring. I don't remember her name, but for the management's sake her number on my receipt is 25. I hope you thank her for her award winning smile and customer care attitude!

I have family who lives in Chester but lack the room to handle us when we come to visit. That brings us to book the Fullerton. If you are expecting the experience and accommodations (including elevators, etc) of a chain hotel, then book elsewhere. If you are looking for pure VT charm, but want your own bathroom, this is a great place. I would equate it to a bed and breakfast on steroids....like having a full public restaurant and bar and rooms with private baths, but limitations to service hours and in room features. That said, I am sure if you asked for something like an ironing board, or anything else, they would provide it. The owner was always present and very helpful. I actually like that there was no in room TV in our suite. They continental breakfast was on par with chains BTW. I loved it, but if you need a Hampton inn, this is not the place for you.

Stayed here when traveling on my honeymoon. The staff was so friendly and kind. I ended up falling a little ill when we got checked in the next morning. I was feeling better, and everyone asked me how I was feeling, making sure I was okay. The food was really good. My husband and I love this place. we hope to come back soon.

Seated right away. Waitress attentive. Took order. Brought food promptly. All delicious. Generous portions. French fried onion rings order for table delicious. Would recommend to a friend.

We came for dinner on a Friday night. Menu is limited, but the offerings all sound so good that it makes choosing difficult. I ended up choosing the French Onion Soup, Chicken Marsala, and Apple Pie and Ice Cream. All very good. My wife had the Mussels, Strip Steak, and Creme Brule. Of course, I sampled hers as well and, again, very good. I will be back to try the other menu items. While the wait staff are friendly, service is slow and a bit non-attentive. This is the only slight drawback, but I still gave 5 stars because the food was so good.

Stayed here for two nights. It was queit clean and the staff was friendly and pleasant. Check in and check out was super easy and the price was very reasonable. True there are no TV's in the room but that was no issue. The setting is very beautiful with several little shoppes near by to explore. We had dinner there at the restaurant which was delicious and reasonably priced as well. I would stay here again.

This little town of chester puts a lot of time and effort into decorating. My boyfriend and I stayed here for one night the first weekend of October. It came to $200. Our room was very small with and outdoor porch which you share with the room next door. The walls are thin so you do hear the cars driving by at night. This place is 100 years old so be aware the rooms are small and the place is old but kept up very well. The only disappointment I had was the continental breakfast. The did not have eggs meat and potatoes. Which for $200 a night expected. The staff was very polite and curtious. The lunch menu and dinner menu is VERY affordable. The food was delicious i will be coming back. Such a great experience

We stopped by for dinner at the Fullerton Restaurant and it was a nice surprise! Don’t let the outside of the building sway your opinion. Stepping inside is a delightful Inn and restaurant. With so many choices on the menu we had a tough decision. Both my husband and I went with the short rib after the waitress spoke so highly of it - she was right, it was delicious! Dinner was a great treat, service was excellent!

I could not have been more charmed by this vintage Vermont inn — from the wonderful owner to the ambiance, the nostalgic carpet and wallpaper, the delicious food, I was completely in love with it. This type of place is a gift and I'm so glad we still get to experience it.

The staff is absolutely amazing, 1000 stars! The chef and his crew cook up and serve some of the most delicious and beautiful dishes that New England could ever taste.

Older hotel, but we stopped in for lunch. It was a drizzly day so we got the Vermont grilled cheese and tomato soup. Sandwich was crispy and tasty; soup was along the lines of a creamy bisque..Server was friendly and attentive. Not a busy place, so she was handling lunch room single handedly.

Everyone here was pleasant, engaging, professional, while creating a relaxed environment that was complimented by the esthetics of the environment itself. The meals were very tasty and plentiful, yet save room for dessert, you'll be glad you did.

Had dinner there twice. Nice soups, salads and appetizers. I had salmon entree and it was very good. Lots of local draft beers. Mixed drinks were excellent one night and so so the other. Nice homey setting with a huge fire place in the lobby.

Loved our short stay in this cozy inn. The staff was helpful and the atmosphere was perfect for a ski weekend. Welcomed by the roaring fireplace, sociable guests and sound of live piano music (I don’t think that’s everyday) was exactly what we could have hoped for! About 20 min from Okemo.

So, I booked this on a whim as I was visiting my parents from out of state. My son and I stayed in the double twin room. Upon arrival we were greeted by the very friendly inn keeper at the front desk. The room was plain, no TV, no phone, but I loved the quaintness! My only real complaint was that the window blinds were old and broken, white (so light filtering) and we both woke up with the birds! Perhaps the blinds could be replaced. We had reservations for dinner through Open Table, I made them when I booked the room. When we arrived for our reservation at 6:30, one of the servers informed me that they were very busy and they were on a wait. I explained that we had a reservation, and she told me she would see what she could do. (not super friendly at all) When the next server walked by I explained the same thing. She was so friendly and accommodating. She (Katie) told us to go have a seat in the Tavern and she would take care of us soon. She didn't lie! Our wait was long, but the service that she provided was fantastic. I felt so bad that she was running around so much, so we were OK with the wait. Katie was kind, funny, enthusiastic and made our night! Food was great too! The bed was comfortable even if it was a twin! LOL Overall, I really enjoyed the historic charm and would stay here again.

This was a first for me; I don't usually like staying in this type of accommodation. I prefer privacy of a motel unit more than a room in a bigger building. Check in was quick and the lady was nice. Not realizing there would not be a mini-fridge in the room, the young lady in the restaurant gave me a large bucket of ice to put in my ice chest. The room and bed were VERY comfortable and I loved having access to the balcony over the porch area from right out a back door in my unit. The one down side - they say they are a non-smoking facility - due to age of the building, mostly. YET - when I took my travel paperwork out to the deck to catch the great afternoon breeze, there was a large coffee can turned into a giant ash tray. YUCK! And two rooms share this balcony, so another person(s) could be out there at the same time. And if you don't smoke and they do - there's nothing you can do about it and their smoke goes into your room if you leave that back door open. And the worst part of this, you pay a higher rate to have this balcony as opposed to just a regular room. So that part - that they are a totally non-smoking facility - is a fib.

Great friendly staff. They could use a TV in the lobby at least for guests that want to watch college football (for example) when relaxing between outings. We were there on a rainy weekend and there was only so much reading we wanted to do while waiting for a wedding!

Bed was comfortable and the reception was friendly. Breakfast service is a bit limited (8-9am), so I missed it and can't comment on it. You are paying for the ambiance of an old hotel in a small village. If you don't want that, then you may feel you are over paying. If you are looking for that, then this place is a good choice. I was traveling for skiing, so i wasn't concerned about the ambiance, but almost everything else in the area was taken and this place was as described on their website, so I wasn't disappointed. There was a lot of snow overnight, so I appreciated the parking lot being plowed before 6am.

M
Max Plajer

Disappointing stay overall. The room was fairly dated, which I could excuse, and chilly. It seemed like the heat wasn't on, even though the low was around 50 °F overnight. The walls are amazingly transparent to sound. Other guests were generally respectful and quiet, but it's still not lovely to hear everything. I also felt bad for my own creaky bed disturbing others whenever I moved. I was happy I hadn't booked a second night. I was hoping for a decent breakfast on my way out, given that the inn is also a restaurant. But I saw only some plastic-wrapped muffins and bagels, and a pot of coffee. I walked down the street to a cafe instead.

Had Thanksgiving dinner here. Food was good. Service wasn't great. One of the hosts was rude to us. We were waiting for our 1Pm sitting, We were told we had to wait. This family came in, (People they obviously Knew) and seated them right away, and ignored us. We finally got seated. tables were too close together. We barely had room enough to walk over to the buffet. The food was great. But really overpriced. I think I will have thanksgiving somewhere else next year.

We went for lunch expecting to have the fireplace going - we were told they only have the fire going when there are more people there -at dinner. Very disappointing. Food was good. Waitress was mediocre. Prices very high for a burger and fries.

B
Bruce Cheeney

The new owners won't use the fireplace at lunchtime because they say there aren't enough customers. The fireplace is what gives this place the atmosphere. The services staff could use better training and learn to act pleasant and interested. Also it is every pricey. All this said, I'm not sure we will go back. It's not like it used to be.

We went there for dinner in Januaryon a typical Vermont winter night. If you want to go out for dinner with friends and don't want to go to an ice hotel in Iceland, this is your place. All of us ate dinner wearing heavy winter parkas, virtually everyone else in the dining room wore their winter garb as well. It may be great in the summer, but not during heating season.

My husband and I did not stay at the inn, but we did have dinner there. The food wasn't bad. The taste was pretty good actually. But the portions were ludicrously small. Not just for the price, which wasn't exorbitant but not inexpensive either. We got two dinner entrees that together did not equal a decent meal. They charged $14.00 for a so-called dinner portion of mac n cheese. It came with a small side salad. The dinner was served in a little crock you would get a small French onion soup in. A toddler would still have been hungry after eating it. The other dinner was pork loin with apple. Again, the meat wouldn't have satisfied a small child. The apple topping was a couple of teeny tiny slices. It was served with about 6 or 7 smaller than bite sized bits of zucchini. The service was decent, but I cannot recommend wasting your time eating there unless you like being hungry after you finish your meal. Do not expect to be filled at the Fullerton!

The Inn needs some TLC. Our beds were hard as a rock and the pillows not much better. The street noise lasted until quite late at night, including trucks, it was difficult to sleep. We were sitting on the deck and were told we had to leave the deck area by 6 pm because there was a "car show" happening. We had to leave the deck even though we were staying there? Really? It turned out there were 5 cars. We went up to a deck on the second floor attached to one of the rooms and it hadn't been cleaned for a long time. The wait staff was very pleasant and made our dinner fun. We had an excellent dinner, the steak was great and the service was great. All in all it was disappointing and we won't be returning.

I’m writing this after personally coming to the owner/manager with my concerns and getting completely blown off. To begin, we came in around 6:30 after a very long drive, completely famished and dead tired. We came in hoping for a cozy, quiet solace and found an absolute madhouse of noise and people. As it turns out, they were hosting a wedding reception of 150 people in the hotel. Now, I book events for a living, and I would NEVER book a party of 150 without alerting the other guests of the hotel. In fact, I would require a full space buyout for an event of that size as it inevitably will completely overwhelm the staff - and that’s exactly what happened. Dinner: We decided to get dinner in the restaurant since it was apparent we weren’t going to sleep anytime soon. We were brought to our seats by the server, and then COMPLETELY IGNORED FOR 45 MINUTES. And I’m not exaggerating that. We sat there for 45 minutes waiting for anyone to look at us, let alone take our order. Once again, it appears all servers were dealing with the wedding part and weren’t even in the dining room to accommodate us “regular” guests. Once we ordered, the food took an HOUR to arrive by this point it was around 8:30 and we were absolutely famished. Bringing the food was the only time that we were checked in on or talked to by the wait staff. The food: the soups were delicious. The clam chowder was spectacular and the French onion was very good. We also got the meatloaf which was nothing special, but hit the spot. We were talked into dessert by the server when we asked for the check, who recommended the Vermont apple pie - she sold it well so we got it. It was terrible. It had clearly been microwaved into oblivion and the crust was the texture of wet flesh. It was genuinely the worst apple pie I’ve ever had. The room: I had asked for a cot or room with a sofa to accommodate me, as I’m traveling with my elderly father who needed his own bed. This was ignored and we were told it wasn’t possible. I had also mentioned it was his birthday and asked for something nice in the room to celebrate. This wasn’t acknowledged either. I don’t even think they read the request even though I had booked months ago. The room was much smaller than I thought and the only working plug was on the other side of the room. The bathroom didn’t even have a toilet paper holder and the toilet paper was just sitting on the ground next to the toilet. It was just sad and gross and motel-Esque. We had booked a room with porch access because we wanted to sit out there and toast to my dads 70th birthday. It became apparent we couldn’t do that the second we got out there, as the wedding party had chosen the area directly below as their designated smoking area and it reeked of cigarette smoke and was incredibly loud, with people screaming and talking. Trying to Sleep: we could not sleep at all for hours due to the noise from the wedding. They were incredibly loud, incredibly disrespectful, and not only did the sound carry from downstairs, the wedding party repeatedly ran up and down the stairs and into their rooms making so much noise our floors actually shook a bit. At around 10:30 the entire party screamed together for a solid minute. Breakfast: We woke up groggy and hoping to salvage the stay with breakfast. We came down to a demolished cold buffet that they told us could not be replenished. There was no hot water and no one around to ask if they could refill it. The dirty dish bins were still overflowing from the night before so we couldn’t bus our table. Even with all of this, I wanted to give them the benefit of the doubt that they didn’t know how bad it was and spoke to the owner manager. He listened to our experience and only kept saying “ok, we’ll keep that in mind”. He offered no apology, no acknowledgment that he could understand our frustration, let alone any compensation for the room issue or our inability to enjoy even the smallest measure of the hotel. When I told him I never would have booked if we had known about the event, he said “ok”. Terrible experience. We

Was there for dinner on a night they had a party. Drinks came right away but the food took 1.5 hours for soup and salad and 2 hours for the entrees. Every entree was over cooked and dry from being under the heat lamps. The manager was snooty but comped the meals. If you are not part of the party avoid this place. The waitress was very nice. Her name was Loraine.

I came in for lunch about a half an hour before closing and asked if they were still serving. I was told absolutely come in, I ordered lunch and received amazing service from Chloe. After eating I enjoyed a lovely conversion with her while she was cleaning up and I was finishing my drink. She left the room and a man came in and said “we’ve been closed for 45 minutes - you need to leave” NOT customer friendly. Ruined the experience. WONT BE BACK.

If you have getting kicked out of a restaurant on your bucket list try the Fullerton Inn. Just show up with a table of 5 and the man in the bar will happily call you stupid and tell you to get out.

Disappointed..after a 90 minute drive to the Fullerton Inn, seeing on the way there really wasn't to many place to eat we figured since there was dining and a cozy bar we would just stay at the Inn to eat. When checking in we asked about parking, only real parking is in front and all were mainly taken except handicap. We asked about dinner and he said they were completely booked, guess reservations were required which we were not told ahead of time. Anyway we found a pizza place just about 3 minutes away. After dinner we came back to the Inn, if you want a tv or need a phone this is not the place. No tvs in any rooms. Also our sink over head light did not work and neither did the bathroom light work the very next morning. Had to take a shower in the dark. The room was cozy when we went in, but the bed was horrible. I sat on it and sunk and felt like I was on the ground. Cob webs on the ceilings, in corners, and the electrical outlets were very loose. Over all you can say we were not very satisfied. Morning breakfast, we gotten coffee, but check your cups before using, I found mine was still dirty inside. Sitting in the commons waiting for the so called breakfast time, we sat at a 2 person table that had coffee spilled and dried up on it. Breakfast is basic, bagels, muffins yogurt etc. If your just needing a place to collapse and lay your head fine. But for an Inn to be a main stay here in Chester you would think the upkeep and cleanliness would be a little better. This is probably our last and only stay here. So if your in Chester Vermont you may want to look else where.

J
Jimmy Proudfoot

Absolutely a terrible hotel if you want to call it a hotel, more like a money trap. They charge you close to $200 per night then do not provide a coffee maker or TV in the room. The person in the morning is very rude, looks like he has just gotten up and is not awake yet. If you are not awake then don't bother coming to work. There is no heat in the room, and you have to go and tell them to turn on the heat. My room slants down and I feel I am going uphill just to go to the bathroom. The walls are thin and can hear everything. For breakfast, they put out Plants mixed with nuts and cold croissants. Even other guests were making comments. I will be back in the area next year for work-related matters and will not stay here. I was told that the food was bad so ended up driving to Balck Rock Steakhouse 13 minutes away. Hotel owners: Learn from these comments and improve or you will end up losing business and maybe one day this place will shut down due to poor service.

We stayed here last night, and got TRAPPED in our room. The door had been sticking a bit for the days we were here, but last night -- humidity, maybe? -- it was not possible to open it from the inside. Believe me, we tried. We get up early, and from 4:30AM to 7:30 we were unable to get out. Finally the day manager arrived and listened to our phone messages and came upstairs. He opened the door from the outside -- easy to do with a bit of a shoulder push or equivalent -- but more or less shrugged the incident off: "That door sticks a bit". He then opened it from the inside, which proved NOTHING since it had already been released from whatever was sticking badly. After some back and forth he has put us in a different (smaller, less comfortable) room for tonight. He spoke with the owner -- some mysterious person whose name the manager is not allowed to give to the guests (but possibly our lawyer can find out who it is) -- and the owner is going to refund us for last night, meaning one of the three nights we will have spent here. We don't consider that adequate recompense for having been sealed in a room for three hours. But, like the Wizard of Oz, the owner is behind a curtain, so to speak, and the day manager just relays the owner's decisions. The door sticking slightly may be charming and quaint. Being trapped in your room IS NOT CHARMING OR QUAINT. The push-back from the manager was unpleasant and a waste of our time. If you must stay here, avoid room 10. I think it's extremely unlikely that they'll fix it; the attitude seems to be a kind of "Works for me!" reaction, rather than, say, calling in a carpenter. I'll add that this has soured us on the hotel in general. Reading reviews about how badly maintained and ill-equipped it was used to make me feel defensive on the hotel's behalf. I don't know what's happened recently -- it was much more pleasant last year -- but it really isn't the find I thought it was in the past.

First, I booked the reservation on Booking.com for Monday night and Tuesday night. The inn contacted me the Thursday before to let me know they are closed on Mondays. We could still let ourselves in but no one would be working. (They need to contact Booking.com and make sure they clarify this to their customers and then give a discounted rate or just not open for business until Tuesday) That also meant the kitchen/restaurant would be closed. One of the reasons we picked this place was because it offered breakfast with your stay. Never saw anything that even resembled breakfast except for 2 half empty coffee pots. It also has a restaurant in this Inn. Now we are staying at this Inn and were turned away for dinner because the kitchen was so far behind....seriously. That is a horrible thing to do for someone who is staying there. Poor business there!! Room was small and cold but had a space heater. They don't have house keeping and claim they do not enter your room, yet after being out all day, we came back to an envelope on the nightstand that said "Gratuity"....for what? That takes a lot of nerve 🤬. I am so disappointed on all levels with the poor advertising and poor hospitality!! I really feel that I should be refunded at least one night(like the night we had to let ourselves in and no employees on site). This was supposed to be my dream "Hallmark" vacation.......yea it's only in the movies. 😥👎

Very old and beat-up facility. The walls are so thin that I can literally hear the guy next door snoring. Can't even park in the front of the property during heavy snow days. and excuse me? no TV? Facility and service do not justify the price they charge. Don't stay here if you have other choices

An old, worn-out hotel with very limited services available. Rooms have nothing but a bible as their entertainment. Beds are very bad and used. Breakfast is very limited. We even had centipedes in the bathroom. Very bad quality/price-ratio. If possible, avoid this place. It is very hard for me to imagine, how this place has been so good for some people.

I only ordered an appetizer and a glass of wine, but based on my experience I didn’t end up ordering a meal. What I did try was served cold and had no flavor. When one of the servers (she wasn’t even waiting on me) asked me how it was, I said “just ok.” Her response “Terrific!” Ok, clearly wasn’t listening/didn’t care. Maybe their main dishes are better, but based on the simple overpriced item I did try, I can’t recommend eating here unless you don’t want to leave town.

While we didn't stay here, we only had dinner at the Fullerton Inn for over 2 hours. Food was terrible, overpriced and service was okay. Blue Cheese ribbon fries is kettle chips and blue cheese crumble. The sea bass is $28 for a less than 6oz filet that is drier than chicken breast and smells like it was dry aged. The pasta of the day was airplane quality. The waitress did apologize for wait, but was not overly attentive.

A group of friends and I came in for dinner last night. We were met by a very rude and unwelcoming man in the bar area who yelled at us when we asked if we could put two tables together. It was very off putting and the decor was lacking. Very disappointing and we will not be returning. There were five of us and we would’ve been happy to have a nice meal and cocktails and spend our hard earned money at the Fullerton Inn, but apparently he did not want our business.

Five of us arrived to have dinner and drinks in the tavern. There was no one there to greet us. The main dining room appeared empty, and the tavern was not full. They did not have a table large enough to accommodate us, so I asked the waitstaff if we could put two tables together, and she said yes. Then a man who was sitting at a table with a group of people eating interjected and said absolutely not, it was not allowed. There were two tables right next to each other, and I asked if we could just put them together, he was adamant that the fire marshal wouldn’t allowed it. I went back out to the lobby to tell my friends, and they couldn’t believe it. Three of us went back in to ask if there was any way that they could accommodate us, and he stood up from the table and informs us that he was the owner, and proclaimed “I said no.” We told him we would take our money elsewhere, and went down the street to MacLaomainns Scottish Pub where we were greeted by friendly staff and had a nice meal in a warm atmosphere.

Went to celebrate a homecoming of sorts. Stayed at the inn years ago when it was a part of a writers weekend sponsered by Misty Valley Books New Writers for a New Year. I met several writers to include Arthur Golden, My Life as a Geisha, Daniel Hecht, Skull Sessions, and Mail, Memeve Medwed to name a few. Back then a lot of folks and an exciting time. Two years ago we went p for a long weekend to see if we could bring back lost memories. No such luck. The place was a far cry from what was also called The Inn at Long Last. The room we stayed in had a window that did not close completely, one bright light in the ceiling and a small shower and toilet in a closet. It took 45 minutes for dinner and our waitress informed us that we were her last customer as she was let go by the current owners who only stopped by a couple of days a month. The fireplace did not work and the runners on the stairs had holes in them. Because the manager could not get the window closed we decided to leave and go back to our home in Georgetown.
