Had an excellent brunch this weekend. The service was excellent and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. They mention having a gluten free menu online which is partially why we decided to go. There wasn’t an actual gf menu available but plenty of the dishes were gf and they were really accommodating after a little bit of uncertainty to start with. A great experience, looking forward to going back to try lunch and dinner!
Regularly changing menu of fine dining tapas - not the cheapest but very tasty and worth the extra for a special occasion - will be returning. Lost a star for service as, although good and very personable, one more member of staff was needed for a busy weekend service.
Ignore the 3 star review, complete try hard. The food is immaculate (especially at the price point) with each dish being unpretentiously delicious. Great for dates, taking friends and family or casual business entertaining. Cannot recommend twenty eight enough
Absolutely stunning - food, drinks, service were phenomenal. Can’t wait to go back with friends and family! What a gem of a place. Very accommodating to dietary requirements if you inform them in advance too. An absolute must visit in Chester and worth the travel if you aren’t local. 10/10
The meal at this restaurant was absolutely exceptional. The sauce in every dish was excellent, and we had to order extra bread to finish it. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for an outstanding meal. I will certainly be returning next week, because the food is simply that good.
Absolutely gorgeous food and attentive service. Manages to combine a pleasant chilled vibe with a touch of the high-end feel. The food was exceptional across all meat, fish and vegetarian options. Even the Olives were like those fantastic ones you only normally get abroad. Well worth checking out the specials board, example in photos. The wine choice was the Sauvignon-semillon which is new on the menu. Staff were super friendly and helpful despite being busy. Highly recommend if you are having a special occasion or just a nice meal out in Chester.
Went here on the 4/5/24 with my wife, the set up they have there was great. The food was like nothing I’ve tried before, it really is English tapas. We had four plates each which was probably two too many as we were slightly too full for pudding at the end. If you’re a lover of food and like to try new things please give this place a go. The waitresses that looked after us were very busy but still gave us time to chat. Honestly well done guys you’ve smashed it.
Great experience, as you walk into twenty eight their great staff welcomes you with a great smile and their fantastic menu. We opted for a lot of their vegetarian dishes which were all beautifully presented and equally as tasty, the beetroot tartare and the potatoes with the gerkin ketchup the top 2 favourites. We also tried the sourdough crumpet with bacon and the mussels that were just the highlight of the meal. To finish, the cheeseboard was just the cherry on top of the cake.
The food at Twenty Eight is truly special. Artfully presented, deliciously complex, and elegant without being stuffy. The dignity of each ingredient thoughtfully preserved and celebrated in every dish, and with the ever-evolving menu, I can only imagine what the chef’s will come up with next. Staff are kind, knowledgeable and efficient. This place warrants many a return visit.
Food was very very nice. Service was very good. Could have been even better if the waitress remembered who ordered what meal but I'm being super picky. No pinot grigio was a miss as its my partners favourite. Would go again and recommend. It was difficult to get an idea how nice the food was going to be from the description on the menu. Not a negative just made choosing hard. Both of our meals were excellent and due to the menu design gluten free meals were available as some of the dishes were naturally gluten free (check if you are allergic though)
Excellent food and excellent service. A decent bottle of Shiraz for £38. The service was just how we like it. There and efficient without being fussy and really friendly.
Fabulous lunch here yesterday. Love the British tapas concept and the farm to table stuff is so interesting. Server was attentive and it is a nice relaxed ambience. Exceptional value at lunchtime, three plates for £20 at that quality is unheard of. Every dish was spectacular. This chef knows how to combine flavours! The crispy chickpeas, the chicken & the leek were all gorgeous. Probably the best squash I’ve ever had. Would highly recommend to friends. This restaurant deserves big success.
Highly recommended! Great menu, the food was delicious and the services great! If you are in the area is a must go, great quality
Fantastic food, best meal I had in a long time. Great service from Jess and Hanna. Highly recommend x
We visited Twenty Eight in it's second week and it already felt completely established in it's own right. The service was fantastic. knowledgeable, helpful and attentive without being intrusive in any way. I don't normally go for cocktails in restaurants but would highly recommend the spicy margarita here. I also, don't often get dessert but the two we shared were exceptional! The menu is beautifully designed using such fresh ingredients. Their crackling and crumpets were particular highlights. Overall, we had an amazing night and can't wait to go back soon. Congratulations to Jay and the team 😊
We were lucky as we had booked before Giles Corans review in the Times. Saturday lunchtime it was fully booked and walking were being turned away. We were warmly welcomed by a member of staff and the excellent service continued. Our 10 ordered plates came in stages so that we could savour each dish. The food was faultless, wonderful flavours and seasoning. Two of our party of four excellent cooks. I hope they are not forced to increase prices as this was excellent value. We came away full and vowed to return very soon. We done 28.
Fantastic selection of plates on offer, with lots of really good choices for both vegetarians and meat eaters! Staff were attentive and the food we tried was delicious. In particular, we loved the croquettes and the hispy cabbage, definitely give both a go!
Amazing food and service. Had lunch offer 3 plates for £20. Delicious. Totally recommend the mussels and pancetta on sourdough. Also the lemon tart and Italian meringue was delicious. Will be back
Went here for the first time on Tuesday with a group of my work colleagues. Love the idea of tapas type dishes and an easy way to order a fixed price bundle of dishes. Lovely local food and flavours from their 'field'. Staff were knowledgeable and helpful. All in all a great experience and would definitely recommend it. Thank you Twenty Eight :-) Áine (Belfast)
Absolute perfection: delicious inventive meals, a cocktail and wine list to die for, casual atmosphere and a band of lovely staff who know their onions. Very reasonable pricing considering the quality you’re getting. What more can I ask for?
Food was immaculately presented. A feast for the eyes as well as the taste buds. Love the unusual combination of items that worked perfectly. Service was impeccable, and server keen to help with any queries about the dishes. A must return venue 😋👌🏻
Thoroughly enjoyable dining experience! The food was deliciously inventive and beautifully presented by the great staff who added to the evening. Highly recommend and look forward to returning.
Outstanding. The only place in Chester that rivals the independents of Manchester & Liverpool. Everything is delicious you won’t be disappointed.
What a fabulous restaurant - Had the most wonderful meal on Friday - great food, wine & service Thank you 🩷❤️🩵💙
I've lived in Chester for over twenty years and this is the restaurant I've been waiting for 🙂. Good balance of dishes to suit both meat eaters and vegetarians. Great care, good ideas and very very tasty.
Loved this very fresh style small plates menu, all dishes were innovative and delicious.
Really lovely experience at Twenty Eight. Enjoyed all of the dishes we had-just a shame we were to full for dessert!
Amazing food and top quality service would definitely recommend. Easily my new favourite resteraunt in chester! Try it and you won’t be disappointed!
We had a fantastic lunch with their set menu, it was inventive and fun and the staff had all the charm of the chefs table we’ve missed since they closed. Can’t wait to go back!
An excellent expansion to Chef's Table setup. The food and drink selection is exactly what you'd expect... top quality!
The breakfast has great gluten free and vegan options
Amazingly tasty, beautifully presented, fantastic staff… this place is awesome!
The food here is 10/10. Can’t wait to come back.
Very good, food and service were excellent.
We really enjoyed our time here. The restaurant is really pretty with a nice atmosphere due to the music playing in the background and the lighting. The food was nice but I suppose we expected much more from this restaurant. We really enjoyed the lamb special that was incredible and the sourdough with the olives. However, we also got the chicken thigh, cabbage and artichokes dishes. All three in our eyes lacked that wow factor. We also found the dishes extremely salty. The chicken thigh lacked any real flavour. We can tell, clearly a lot of effort goes into the dishes aesthetically and that doesn’t go unnoticed but unfortunately it wasn’t incredible in the taste as we would be expected. Overall, I would recommend to go for the experience though.
Amazing food - absolutely fantastic and unique. Something you would not eat on a daily basis. The cod Kiev and the duck were especially tasty. Local ingredients, extraordinary effect. Just wow. I would like to give 5 stars, but... 1. It was quite loud. The venue is small and tables are crowded together. It was hard to talk to my companion. 2. Not accepting cash is a big minus. A top-tier restaurant like this should make every aspect of the experience convenient for the client - limiting payment options is anything but. Also, being able to pay the bill by leaving cash on the table, rounded with a tip - it is just such a nice element of our culture. Why lose it?
Visited Saturday evening, two people. Two appetiser plates and four standard plates. Very tasty food. Recognise it's a tapas restaurant, but portions were smaller than we expected and therefore in our opinion over-priced (£112 bill including a £36 bottle of Carignan and including a 10% tip)
Sorry but we were really disappointed ! £99 for two ! I had one Prosecco and my husband two £5 beers . One small basket of triple fried chips , three pieces of very greasy sour dough bread , two very fatty pork chops . The bread and butter pudding was my favourite part of the meal . The photographs on the website are not as minimal as the portions we were given . Sorry but not good value for money
Quite a cosy little spot, but given previous reviews was left a little disappointed. For two people we had the chicken, mackerel, cauliflower, rarebit, chips and salad, all of which was luke warm at best. Had the egg custard tart for pudding which was okay. Given that it is a lot pricier than other well known tapas restaurants like porta and blue bell we were hoping for a bit more. The restaurant was also very loud and even though we were sat a few feet away could barely hear eachother.
A real mixed bag with this one. had dinner here on a Friday night, the menu sounded very exciting. The quality of the food and the cooking was of a very high standard, however a few of the dishes that we ordered were a touch weird or had elements which needed work. the carbonara croquettes, sound divine but were both too salty, too claggy and the guanciale was not rendered enough so was chewy and unpleasant. The toasted sourdough was heavily oiled and did not pair well with the tomato butter, it was grease on top of grease. the tartare was first class and i would eat by the bucket, so was the KFC courgettes. also ordered a vegetable terrine which was just ok. We were leaving room for desert which sounded good but the service, which started off really well tailed off dramatically as the restaurant was very understaffed. Only 2 poor folks doing all the service and making the drinks. our table with our finished plates on it was left for 20+ minutes and we did not fancy the wait for the desert. Not the fault of the staff working but management should really be looking to employ a 3rd person on that shift.
Decent bottle of wine. Attentive fun service. It’s not really Tapas it’s truly expensive . £18 for a tiny tiny piece of Duck. Not shareable. Kind of taking the piss the size.
£20 for 3 dishes sounded good value and 2 very tasty. However charging an extra £5 for 3 very thin slices of cheese not a good idea.
Not sure what I was expecting. Food was good. Not amazing. Service wasnt what I would expect from this type of restaurant. It wasn't bad but wasn't standout. I wouldn't rush to go back unfortunately. Service slow. Slightly disappointing for us. Perhaps better of an evening with more staff?!
Unfortunately a poor experience from start to finish. The food was reasonable but overpriced and incredibly small portions even for’ tapas’ style.. what really ruined the evening was the poor service.. it was obvious that they were short staffed. The atmosphere was also really cold.. not a great night
Very disappointing birthday meal. We dined here on Saturday, only two people serving the whole restaurant, took 30 mins just to get a drinks order. Menu very strange, all of the starters didn’t warrant ordering so we opted for 3 mains. Beef cheeks were good but the rest of the dish was very poor, hassle-back potato’s were undercooked and very uninspiring. Chicken tikka pie (no place on the menu) was poor. Lastly, the belly pork very very poor one of the worst bits of pork I’ve ever had. Service was very very poor also. Definitely would not recommend to anyone, bill the as £120 and we ended up getting a pizza slice next door.
We were very much looking forward to eating at 28 but came away very disappointed. On arrival we stood waiting in reception area where there was no staff. On being shown to a table it was clear there was no atmosphere or vibe in the resturant. Food was good but not as good as anticipated and croquettes were far too salty. Real pity
Awful food coupled with terrible service in a reasonably imagined restaurant with one of the worse views in Chester. Do not expect great things!!
