Oh Alá Bar is a bohemian bar where you can listen to Latin American trova classics and contemporary singer-songwriters. All with excellent technique and a passion for music. I happened to go on a Saturday for a tribute event for Silvio Rodriguez and left with a wonderful taste in my mouth. Both musicians are fun, talented, and very attentive to their audience's requests, playing for almost five hours nonstop. The menu and cocktails are up to par for the venue, and it even has vegetarian options. They have a cover charge ranging from $120 to $200, and you can spend from $200 to whatever you like per drink.

But the musical offerings don't end there: every Friday, the intersection of Hidalgo and Real San Lucas exudes magic with Javier Espinosa's brilliant interpretation of Silvio Rodríguez, the audacious yet exquisite artistry of Luis Daniel Herca's voice, the irresistible romantic energy of Juan Pablo Gómez, and Hernesto Rodríguez's intrepid and hilarious reinvention of immortal classics. A quick glance at their weekly schedule confirms the freshness of a repertoire of events that continues to champion established talents and rising stars. The charm also emanates from the staff, whose professionalism is characterized by just the right amount of warmth and a spontaneous friendliness that borders on camaraderie. You don't even need to step inside to notice the meticulous attention and constant vigilance of manager Lluvia, the attentive perspicacity of waiter Frank, and, if you're lucky enough to see her, the radiant warmth of waitress Pam. Note: the service is quick but not impatient—in keeping with the contemplative pace of the place—and tends to get busy during large events, but the wait is always worthwhile. The drinks menu, another gem at Oh Alá, offers well-executed classics and signature cocktails that fuse tradition with contemporary and well-balanced techniques. Standouts include the "Ojalá," a refreshing splash of white wine with citrus notes, and the "Bombilla Verde," which challenges the most daring with its blend of rum, tequila, and vodka with a touch of mint (brought to your table in an unusual and playful way). The wine selection is understated yet carefully curated, featuring renowned labels that, combining tradition and versatility, celebrate the rich reds and crisp whites of Spain, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. Originally one of the best places to listen to trova music in southern Mexico City, this spot is very pleasant and the service is unbeatable. Their menu typically features wings, ribs, kebabs, and other snacks to enjoy while listening to the music. They've recently expanded their menu to include gourmet burgers, baguettes, and baked potatoes. You can enjoy your meal there—they have all the necessary health and safety measures in place—or you can order something delicious from their menu and pick it up. Highly recommended.

It's a very small place with very limited space between tables. The atmosphere is fairly good, and I think the best thing is the trova singers, who liven things up very well. We had a good time from 8 p.m. until 1 a.m. The place allows for conversation because the noise from the speakers isn't strident. I don't recommend the food; it's outrageously expensive and the amount is paltry. For mini French fries and four or five mini empanadas, it was $300 or $350 pesos. Totally outrageous. In addition, they have to be very careful with their bill because when they give you your "consumption," they charge you a recovery fee, which is the cover of $120 per person. What I disliked the most is that they don't break down your consumption. In our case, since we only drank beers, they credit you by grouping sticks in groups of five, without you really knowing (after we've had enough) if that was your actual consumption. This is the breakdown I'm referring to. The site, on the other hand, is very well decorated and a pleasant place. I hope they can improve.
