My friend had heard of this restaurant before and had never gone, so when we spontaneously came across it after a trip to McSorley’s, we had to experience this mushroom-inspired restaurant. We were a little nervous it would be TOO mushroomy, but it wasn’t at all and was a truly incredible experience. The ambiance is impeccable and the food was so innovative with many fun (but well-balanced) flavors. We had the ramen, millet feuille, and ravioli followed by the lava cake. The ramen and lava cake were especially good but we loved everything. Highly recommend for a creative meal out with friends or a romantic date night — don’t hesitate, just go!
A great novelty and an interesting culinary experiment – all dishes being both plant-based and mushroom-centric. The food was excellently presented and very tasty. Each dish is named after the primary mushroom used. We opted for: -Lion's Mane -Beech -Chestnut -Blue Oyster (with the “forager's corner” special of Lobster mushrooms added) -King Royal Trumpet We would recommend four to five dishes for a party of two (multiply as needed). Service was informative, friendly, and attentive. They answered questions we had about the menu and were clearly knowledgeable about the restaurant's offerings. The décor was inventive, also focusing on mushrooms of all different types. The only criticism we have is that it's certainly on the more expensive side. There are lower-priced options elsewhere for food of a similar quality, and the bill came out to over $200 for a dinner for two people, which is a bit steep. That said, you're paying for rarer high-quality ingredients in some of these mushrooms, and the uniqueness of the venue means that if you can afford it, we certainly recommend you go
Fabulous!! Had my birthday dinner here and loved every dish! We had 5 dishes and dessert. 🥰 everything was amazing. Loved the ramen and basically everything the served us! Each dish was so different and carefully put together. And the dessert! Must add for sure!
Went for the winter chanterelle tasting menu with the wine pairings. Thoughtful, confident cooking from start to finish. Each course landed where it should, building on the last. Like good music, it’s all rhythm and balance: harmonious, uplifting, quietly exciting and over far too soon.
For people who love mushrooms and high-quality, modern cuisine, this is the place to go! The menu is creatively assembled and beautifully executed. Plating is gorgeous, and the service was responsive and attentive. Highly recommended for anyone who enjoys mushrooms.
Absolutely gorgeous spot!! Everything is mushroom-themed! Third Kingdom is a plant-based restaurant where mushrooms take center stage in every dish. Portions aren’t huge, so I’d recommend ordering 2–3 plates per person. The dumplings and ramen are must-tries, incredibly delicious, beautifully seasoned, and presented like art. Every bite is full of surprises. Definitely a perfect place to hang out with friends and enjoy a great time :)
Mushroom lovers, don’t miss this place! Every dish was absolutely delicious. The service was sweet and welcoming, and our waiter was incredibly kind and respectful. Such a great experience overall.
We dined here for my partners birthday and we both are mushroom lovers! We ordered: Beech ( we got the added truffles as the foragers corner but we didn’t realise it was $25 extra which was not worth it in our opinion) Lion’s Mane Ramen Blue Oyster Lava Cake Dessert All the food was delicious and served at a good pace. It took us to loads of different cuisines and flavours. The staff were so lovely and even put a candle in the dessert for my partners birthday and gave us two free drinks which was so kind. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves mushrooms!
Quirky, unique restaurant concept, centric on mushrooms, well-executed. The maikado dish and the blue oyster were highlights. Second place were the lion’s main dumplings. Third place was the mole - but it would probably be great for a mole enthusiast (the chef is from the mole region). Last place for me was the beech, which tasted like a lazy Mac & cheese. Overall, really enjoyed this restaurant! All vegan but super super interesting! Great atmosphere, better if you get a reservation. Portions are pretty good. 3-4 dishes for 2 people, 1-2 for 1 person.
Incredible dining experience - we enjoyed the chef food & wine pairing as the ending of a full day in NYC. It hit ALL the spots. Veggies, you’ve found a home. Meat-eaters, you will consider changing teams after a meal here. Amazing! Shout out to Drew & Paul for their passion and dedication to great service.
I was intrigued by this place for awhile, and I ended up loving it even more than I expected! Rather than being divided into appetizers, main dishes, etc. the menu is all small plates that are arranged in order of price (lol) from the side of focaccia at $8 ending with the blue oyster mushroom dish at $29. I asked the waiter if the dishes at the expensive end were larger than the ones at the top, and he said no, the ones at the end have “more flavor.” It seems like they are in order of increasing complexity. We started with the focaccia (the only item that doesn’t contain mushrooms) and it was crazy! I’ve never had black focaccia before, but it was great. It is labeled as containing “coconut” which is in the form of coconut oil (unclear why this is necessary). Next, we had the maitake accompanied by celery root puree, pickled tiny pink mushrooms (hon shimeji), and kohlrabi slaw. Truly special. The maitake was tender almost like an artichoke heart. Next, we had the pioppino, served over curry grits as well as a watercress salad. The curry grits were unique and spectacular, and the mushrooms were tiny and delicious. Our last savory dish was the black pearl oyster mole dish. We made sure to order this because people online raved about the mole, which was delicious. I do think they served us trumpet mushrooms in place of the black pearl oyster mushrooms. They were smoky and had an incredible texture. We didn’t mind the swap at all, though I was surprised they didn’t mention it to us when we ordered. You almost don’t notice the mushrooms at first because they are overshadowed aesthetically by the enchilada and the various garnishes. We honestly thought the mushrooms were home fries at first. This dish has a LOT going on, and I can see why it’s a crowd pleaser, because who doesn’t love an enchilada? Every part was delicious although I felt the mushrooms deserved to be more front and center (literally and figuratively) rather than the enchilada that was filled with jackfruit for some inexplicable reason. Finally, the dessert. Do not miss this. It is a chocolate lava cake accompanied by rosemary porcini ice cream (tastes heavier on the rosemary than the porcini), chocolate crumbles, and candied shiitake. The candied shiitake were chewy to the point of being difficult to eat, but this didn’t detract much from the insanely good cake and ice cream. The space is cool, too. The bar has a fun old-school vibe with plenty of seating. The dining room is dark and romantic and covered with charming mushroom paraphernalia. We left the meal in awe of how special and delicious everything was! Every dish was conceived with such attention to detail, with surprising pops of flavor that had us referring back to the menu to recall what interesting elements made up each dish. We appreciated the emphasis not only on mushrooms but on other whole/unprocessed foods. Pretty close to being a macrobiotic restaurant honestly, which is rare to find these days. The meal felt indulgent and fairly “clean” at the same time, a real treat.
I had a fantastic meal at Third Kingdom. Dishes we got: Blue Oyster mushroom - tasted like steak! My favorite of the night. Trumpet Ravioli - best fried mushroom ravioli I’ve ever had Beech Mushroom Mac and Cheese- my non vegan friendly loved this and would recommend it to non vegans trying this restaurant for the first time. Maitake - great flavors! Focaccia- good but not great probably wouldn’t order again Lions mane dumplings - incredibly fresh but tasted like standard mushroom dumplings Lava cake - a mushroom based dessert is a crazy idea. And it works so well. The porcini ice cream was surprisingly amazing. This meal was extraordinarily expensive! Between the two of us we shared 7 dishes and we left feeling full. I would recommend 5 dishes shared between two people.
10/10 dining experience. I wouldn’t change a thing and can’t wait to go back. The servers were so attentive and kind and the food was absolutely delicious. The ramen was my favorite but I loved everyone single bite of food. Anyone who appreciates mushrooms needs to eat here!

Delicious and creative food, friendly service and cozy atmosphere. I followed the recommendations of the waiter and I was super happy: I had the beech and the black oyster. And their mushroom beer is super good.
Definitely one of the most interesting restaurants I've ever been to, and the first fungus-forward one. Everything was delicious! Make sure to save some room for dessert.

We sampled 9 out of the 11 dishes on the menu and enjoyed every one of them. The service was warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere was excellent. We’d definitely come back. Thank you!
Everything was amazing! Our waitress Wilka was the best. She helped us explain each dish on the menu. The food was absolutely incredible! The chef created such a unique experience with each dish — every mushroom was prepared in its own special way, with distinct flavors and textures. You could truly taste the creativity and skill behind every bite. One of our favorite dishes was the Beech, which was like a mac n cheese, very creamy and flavorful. Another favorite dish was the salad with enoki mushrooms. Each bite had bursts of flavors to savor! All the dishes were absolutely delicious!!!!!! An amazing dining experience from start to finish! 100000/10 highly recommend! .
Interesting concept, and executed well. All the dishes we had (except the focaccia) showed off the various mushrooms’ textures, but I wish the mushrooms flavors stood out more. I felt the sauces were too overwhelming. That said though, everything tasted really good. Standout (texture-wise) was the lions mane dumplings. Super meaty texture, but it was too sweet for me. Service was fine, if a little slow (as far as I could tell, there was only one server for the entire restaurant of maybe 10 occupied tables). And the restaurant is decorated great. For five dishes, with no drinks, the total came to around $65 per person.
So sad for third kingdom to be closing doors soon!! One of the more creative, interesting dinners in nyc. Haven’t tried all the dishes, and I will be back multiple times before doors officially close Winning dishes: lions mane dumplings, enoki ramen, maitake mille feuille Dishes to skip: ravioli, blue oyster Dessert is pretty good but i wanted mushrooms to be centered more there
Booked this restaurant for my mom because she really likes mushroom dishes. Ordered four dishes plus a dessert which is also mushroom made. The enoki mushroom ramen and beech are really umami and tasty! Would not recommend the blue oyster mushroom, very salty. Great atmosphere and service.
Ordered a variety of dishes. Fantastic concept for a mushroom-based menu. We enjoyed most of the dishes. The chanterelles could have been spicier since it leaned towards more of the Asian influence. I’d skip the king royal trumpet. It’s pricier and not worth it. Didn’t taste the ricotta that was noted on the menu. We like beech, chestnut, and blue oyster. The dessert was good. Service was okay. The waiter was friendly but we had to wait for our water to be refilled constantly. The runner who brought us the food could also be tasked with refilling water perhaps if they notice that when bringing food? The timing between dishes could be improved. Waiter never asked if I wanted another beer which is fine as I can ask myself but it shows the lack of attention. We overheard from the other tables times where he missed things or repeatedly apologized for the wait. It’s a fine place to try once as it’s unique but wouldn’t be a place to return to on a regular basis unless the menu is constantly updated.

From reading the reviews prior to going, I know the menu was laid out from least complex to prepare to most. The dish price doesn’t necessarily reflect portion size or a “main” vs “side/appetizer”. I enjoyed the food at Third Kingdom. What else can I say, every dish was well prepared and thought out. I think the place is a tiny bit on the pricey side when I break it down to average price per dish. The interior reminds me of a nice steak house with dark wood throughout. I’d give Atmosphere 5 stars if it had a little livelier ambiance (there was only one other table when we were there and not seeing other workers made it seem empty).
The space looked interesting at first too — dim, kind of moody. But after 30 minutes, it just felt… dark and a little depressing. Service was fine, but food came out pretty slow. Here’s what we tried: • Bread & butter: Honestly, the best part of the meal. Super soft, warm, and flavorful. • Enoki salad: Too salty, didn’t really taste like mushrooms. • Morel mushroom sauce: Came with a yellow sauce — not bad, but not memorable either. • Main (Cauliflower mushroom + Blue Oyster mushroom): Too sweet overall, and the flavors didn’t really go together. Also, the mushrooms themselves weren’t rare or special enough to justify the price. I think if you really love mushrooms, you might be underwhelmed. The dishes were just kind of… basic. To top it off, a tiny bug flew into my glass near the end — not a dealbreaker, but in such low lighting, it’s not ideal.

Went here for my birthday and was disappointed. Not sure how they have the ratings 🤨The bread is good, everything else was mid to yuck. The signature red "ravioli" was the worst dish; doughy, dry, and tasteless. All style no substance. Nice cozy atmosphere, disappointing food. We got there early for our reservation and sat at the bar for a while but we're never offered a drink 🤷. Table service was fine but they kept pushing that "dishes were for sharing" and bringing stacks of small plates&bowls, but the entrees came with barely a single portion😆 so weird. Then they were forcing us to decide on dessert immediately bc "it took 20-30mins to make". Glad we opted out of dessert and went to Van leeuwen instead for excellent ice cream.
The foods are really bad and salty. I drink water after every single bite. It is the worse restaurant I have ever been. The creamy sauce with the fried mushrooms makes it greasy. The spices within are makes it taste wired also.
