Lovely restaurant with a cute speakeasy below. Both serve full menu which has great options. I had the steak frites which was a tender, very flavorful ribeye with fries and a delicious garlic aioli. 10/10! For appetizer, we had the chicken liver which was served chopped and chilled like chicken salad. It came with the best toast I've ever had... so crisp and buttery. Caesar salad was also pretty good, and cocktails were great!

This place checks all the boxes you are looking for. Excellent staff/service, warm and inviting atmosphere, and delicious food. The burger exceeded the hype. Cooked to perfection and top tier quality. The general chicken was flavorful with the right amount of heat. Last but not least the best Caesar salad I’ve ever had. Drinks were really good also.

We came here to celebrate my husbands birthday with our 4 month old! Super accommodating and amazing service. The burgers and sides are incredible. As someone who doesn’t love meat, this burger is worth the trip. Randell our server was the best, he even surprised us with a little birthday candle ice cream :) we will see you next time!

Always a great meal at Au Cheval! The hype is definitely real. Special shout out to Sienna P. the Maitre’d who so nicely helped my large group get a reservation on a Saturday night. She was very responsive via email and even called me to ensure our reservation was set at the proper time and date. Service was amazing food + drinks also great. Can’t wait to come back!

Au Cheval completely lived up to the hype and then some. The burger was hands down the most incredible we have ever tasted. The steak was cooked to perfection and the fried chicken sliders were unreal. Every bite was next level. What truly made the night unforgettable was our server Natalie Z. She went above and beyond to help us celebrate our honeymoon. She was so welcoming so kind and genuinely lovely. She surprised us with complimentary champagne plus dessert which made the experience feel extra special. Amazing food exceptional service and an atmosphere that made our honeymoon night one to remember forever. We cannot wait to come back.

This place is a solid pick for a great meal. The burger was seriously good no fancy gimmicks, just a satisfying, flavorful bite. That ribeye sandwich with the dipping sauce was downright tasty, too. And I've got to give a shoutout to our waitress, Miranda❤️ she was excellent and really added to the whole experience. Everyone was friendly, the service was on point, and yeah, it’s a bit on the pricier side, but definitely worth it for a solid night out.

Absolutely incredible experience. I am a snob when it comes to service and Scott really impressed me!! A big shout out for making our dinner that much more phenomenal. We love their restaurants but in our opinion this one hits the hardest! The burger was by far the best execution with the perfect amount of peppercorn. I was highly impressed with the salad Scott recommend along with the steak tartare. My partner went to heaven with the bone marrow. Overall our experience was a 10/10 and we will definitely be back on our next trip to the city. We never felt rushed, the place was buzzing and the food was outstanding.

Truly a wonderful meal! Courses arrived at a nice pace, our server stayed attentive, plus every dish had rich flavor. The root drink was refreshing, the crunchy mix salad hit the spot, the steak was tender, the sea fish dish was fresh, fries were crisp, greens perfectly done. Seating felt a bit tight due to a full house, yet that simply shows how popular this place is. A fantastic visit overall!

Probably one of the best burgers in my life. We came for a Sunday Brunch. The double cheese burger(make sure you add bacon and egg, especially the bacon!) was bomb. So tender, juicy, satisfying. We also love the Délice de Bourgogne, and French fries. For the dessert, the server recommended the Guinness gelato which is off menu, and was really delicious. The restaurant is beautiful, amazing food, our server was wonderful. Such a great time. I do hope they stop charging the ridiculous reservation fee… I think it’s fine to charge per table. But per person? It really is too much.

The food here is NOT disappointing! My buddy made a last minute reservation on the night of our arrival into NYC. After taking some time to decide what to order (it’s a vast menu), we decided to split the burger and the rib sandwich as an appetizer followed by steak frites and some greenery; it was a guys trip after all… Service staff was on point and friendly and the ambiance is loud, but cozy. I’d highly recommend this spot!

Every time I go to NYC I try to eat here. The chicken wings are my absolute favorite thing on the menu, and I always come back for more. I’ve also had the burger and it is so delicious it just melts in your mouth. The kale caesar salad is one of the best salads I’ve ever had and I was nervous because sometimes kale can taste bitter but this had no hint. I love the casual but elegant atmosphere. It’s a very intimate setting that feels alive when you’re there. i’ve always had a wonderful service experience and other support staff have always been so helpful and kind! Highly recommend!

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. We showed up early and despite the busy crowds, they did their best to sit us early. We were lucky to land a seat at the bar and decided to stay. The bartender was super friendly and attentive. We shared the famous burger, Mac n cheese, and salad. The bacon was a star in the dishes, with a yummy maple crust. We really enjoyed the corkscrew noodles and creamy white cheddar sauce to the Mac. We enjoyed the bar vibe downstairs a little more. Quieter and calmer. Upstairs is more lovely, bright, cute half booth seating. Would recommend!

I walked in during lunchtime and a Sunday at 1300 with no reservations and was able to be seated at the bar with zero wait. The server and bartender were so amazing. They are very fast, and extremely attentive. The service overall was amazing! For my main meal, I got the double cheeseburger and paid extra for the egg and the bacon. This burger does not come with fries, but you really don’t need it because it’s very filling. Then for dessert, I ordered the raspberry sorbet, strawberry ice cream, and salted caramel ice cream. If you are able to get a seat at the bar, you can watch the bartender make drinks and the cooks make the food as well. The restaurant is dark and moody and buzzing with life. The bathrooms are downstairs and are very clean.

Stopped for a late lunch without a reservation. The place was packed! From the host to the server, everyone was friendly and very professional, great service. We had the Bone marrow, fries, and burger, food was delicious. The onion confit with the marrow was very tasty, we had a bit leftover, which we promptly added to our burger. The burger was legit, classic not a smashburger. Meat was moist and juicy, a real burger! We added an egg, which was just a smidge overcooked. Next time I'll add the bacon, which I think would have added that touch of salt and bite the burger could have used. Fries were cooked well, crispy on the outside, soft inside, garlic aioli was a little flat, we opted for catsup. Loved the coffee from Cafe Sawada.

Went for the burger. Had heard about it for years as one of the best in America. It was just okay. The bacon was the best part. Beef was okay, but nothing special. Same with the cheese. Bun was dry and tasteless. Now, the roasted chicken frites. That was a good dish. Perfectly cooked and juicy. Good skin. The jus flavored the frites. And the aioli was super tasty. Also, roasted broccoli is the best broccoli I’ve ever had. Loved it.

We visit au cheval looking to try the "best burger of ny" we did a walking had some coffee since we needed to wait and got super lucky to get a table on this busy Sunday. The host was wonderful she accommodated us we love her. We got at Sunday brunch menu, regular menue wasn't available at that time but it was fine since the main thing we came do was on that menue as well. Every came super quick no complaints on the service at all. Is the Burger the best we had in ny Sadly No. is was delicious but no the best we had we also try the bologna sandwich in my opinion to salty no the best fries where pretty average. Drinks were delicious and the coffee was super good we ended up spending about $150 with tip so worth trying. Not the best burger I will had to said

Started off strong. It was a special occasion for us, and the hostess and server were very warm in their celebrations, offering complimentary champagne. We ordered the Korean wings as a starter, 5/5. We only ate one each because we were saving room for the super hyped burger, bologna sandwich, and French dip. Started regretting eating only one wing each after about 25 minutes of not having the mains. Somewhere between 25-30 minutes later, they arrived, and this is where my opinion probably becomes controversial. The burger (w/ egg and bacon) was good but not anywhere near what we were expecting based on hype and other reviews. There was just too much going on between the beef, bacon, egg, dijonnaise, onions and cheese. First bite was great but after that it was all a buttery blur. 3/5 The French dip was amazing, 5/5. Best au jus I’ve had The bologna sandwich was so salty and fatty that we couldn’t really taste anything. There were other items that sounded better, but we were intrigued by this one. Side rant: Since we were celebrating, we decided to try the gelato for dessert. The gelato is listed as $9.99 on the dessert menu and has the three available flavors in parentheses. We ask our server for ‘the gelato’, he nods and returns with a scoop of each flavor a few minutes later. Between us ordering and him bringing it out, another server brings us a complimentary vanilla ice cream and wishes us a warm congratulations, which was very nice. But then we have 5 scoops of various ice cream on the table, and we’re completely stuffed so we barely make a dent in it. The check comes, and we notice that the gelato is $16, not $9.99. I ask the server about it and he informs us that it’s actually $9.99 for one flavor - I’m not going to argue over $6, but we thought it was kinda deceitful for him to not mention that when we ordered it, and also not to mention that they were already giving us complimentary ice cream (which we weren’t expecting, and grateful for).

It's solid. It just doesn't hold a candle to 4 Charles. Very similar menus, but everything at Au Cheval is just significantly less good. The burger is solid, Mac is solid, dessert solid. Everything is like a 7.8/10. Very good, just nowhere near worth the price points or as good as their sister restaurant, 4 Charles.

Excellent interior design. The service was spotty. Food was disappointing. Heard rave reviews about the burger here. Found myself thinking how much more flavor there is in my regular Bareburger order. Best part of this dinner was the ice cream (store bought?). For our meal, we ordered bone marrow (arrived room temperature), cocktails, and the burgers which lacked flavor.

This was our second time, as we came here 2 years ago and thought the burger was 10/10. But this time things were a bit different: 1. The burger today was ok. Not great, not very good, not up to the hype. Taste was not there, and for sure not how I remembered it to be. 2. The french fries (side) are a clear must avoid. They are too generic, the portion size is ok, but the price for what you get is quite startling: 14$ for something you’d a least expect a bit more from. 3. The vibe and atmosphere are great. The restaurant is beautiful, and it’s a super nice place to be in. But it is true that tables are quite close together and you can’t feel that comfortable due to that. 4. At the very beginning, we were offered still or sparkling water, but tap was not mentioned. To our surprise, a 13$ water bottle was charged. Would be great to inform clients of that (not low) extra charge, especially when coming from other countries. Overall, the place is very nice and the burger is decent. But it is not great, and in my opinion, nor up to it’s popularity on social media nor to the price you pay.
