We were very satisfied with our dishes: Wagyu steak rice bowl $25. Generous portions of quality steak with great sauce. Chubby Curry Wagyu steak rice plate was also excellent although the curry itself was just average, similar to what you can make at home with Golden Curry packets.

Seeing the rating and actually tasting the curry was a definite match. Tried out the chubby curry wagyu steak plate was "fire" combining it with fuku jinzuke and the spicy paste, really hit my curry craving. The wagyu was melt in your mouth and the curry was creamy and delicious. We were lucky that we came at an off time and got a seat quickly. I can definitely see that people would line up to eat at this place. Glad to finally try this. Coming back sooner than later.

Compared to its flashy Chubby Group counterparts, Chubby Curry sits quite unassumingly on a street in Downtown Covina. The inside, however, is very cool. The restaurant makes impressive use of its narrow space. The ground floor is reminiscent of a diner, featuring counter seating and a row of booths. The upper floor has more tables and a bar. Various anime figures line the shelves and kitschy games lie scattered throughout the countertops. Despite the name “Chubby Curry,” the menu is quite expansive. Rice bowls, handrolls, burgers, sashimi, and various katsu dishes are also available. The curry is seasoned well, but what really stands out to me is the Wagyu, featured in both the Wagyu Curry and the Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl. The sliced beef steals the show - the texture is amazing. Personally, I like the Wagyu Steak Rice Bowl more than I like the Wagyu Curry. I was so impressed on my first visit, that I visited two more times within the span of a couple weeks to try other things on the menu. The katsu is very good. It’s perfectly crispy, yet moist and juicy. It’s also hefty - a very generous portion. I added pork katsu to my Oyakodon, and it ended up being enough food for like two people - which is great! With the katsu, the Oyakodon is $22-$23, depending on what protein you get. Considering how much food you get, I think this price is reasonable. Without the katsu, the Oyakodon is only $14, and is delicious on its own. I also liked the Aonori Waffle Fries. In hindsight, I should’ve seen it coming, but in the moment, I was really surprised that they came with a curry dipping sauce. I wished that I had gotten them with the Wagyu Burger. The Wagyu Burger was ok, but I’ve had better. I wouldn’t say it was dry, but it wasn’t as moist and tender as I was expecting. Maybe a tad overcooked? And without that juiciness, the burger fell a little flat. I wished that I had the fries so I could pair the curry sauce with the burger to make it a little more interesting. I also thought the burger was a bit small. I was still a little peckish after eating it - yet another argument for the fries. The fries should honestly just come with the burger. I thought that the sushi was mediocre at best. The blue crab handroll was just ok - I’ve had better for less money. The toro sashimi was fine - not fishy, but not necessarily super fresh. I wouldn’t get sushi again at Chubby Curry, but its inclusion on the menu didn’t make much sense to me in the first place. And of course, I had to try the bar. I liked my cocktail. I got the Heiwa Tsuru-ume Kanjuki Nigori - an umeboshi and peach cocktail. I was expecting it to be salty and sour, but it was surprisingly refreshing and sweet. As far as service, there was one incident where my group ordered chicken and pork katsu. The server brought out our food and was like “uhh I forgot which was pork and which was chicken, sorry.” I felt this situation could have been handled better because that kind of negligence could be serious if we had dietary restrictions. It was also annoying for us because we had to figure out which was which on our own. I don’t know what the server/food runner’s name was, but he had medium-long shaggy hair. Another time, I had really good service. I requested to sit upstairs and the servers complied with my request even though they really didn’t have to. I did not feel like my service quality was compromised by sitting upstairs. The servers were still attentive and very nice. Overall, I really liked Chubby Curry. Prices are a bit high, but portions are proportional and the food quality is high for the most part. Service is also generally good.

Just hit up this gem of a Japanese curry spot - absolutely blown away! Started with some crazy fresh sashimi with this gorgeous plating. Then came this tempura handroll that was straight-up ridiculous - nori and tempura crisp as can be. But yo, the star of the show? That katsu curry! The cutlet was perfection - golden brown, crispy exterior giving way to the juiciest pork inside. The curry sauce was hitting all the right notes - rich, slightly sweet, with that perfect Japanese curry comfort. Paired it with some waffle fries seasoned with herbs that were absolutely addictive. The attention to detail here is next level - from the wooden handroll stands to those stylish plates with yellow edges. Real talk, this place is becoming my new go-to spot. Quality is A1, vibes are immaculate. If you're in the area, do yourself a favor and check it out!

First time here and had a great experience! At first this place looks really small! We waited about 15 minutes to be seated! They seated us on the second floor which was really nice and felt almost private! The staff here is super friendly and explained everything on how the process of ordering goes, which is pretty much all electronic! The tablet on the table is how you order your food! Once everything is chosen, you hit "send order to kitchen" and everything gets prepared! I had the wagyu burger and let me tell you it was delicious! The sauce they put in this burger is amazing, along with the caramelized onions!! Fantastic!! The dumplings were also very flavorful! We ordered a plate of waffle fries for the table and those couldn't have been any better!! I believe the sauce they use on the wagyu burger is the same sauce they use as a dipping sauce for the waffle fries!! My mom had a veggie plate which was also very flavorful and beautifully presented! My brother had the chicken katsu curry plate and he said it didn't disappoint! He let me try the curry and also a piece of the chicken and it was very good!! Between the 3 of us and everything we ate, our bill was about $100! A bit pricey but definitely worth it! Can't wait to go back to try the chicken katsu sandwich!!

The Chubby Curry in Beverly Hills is much closer to me, but parking there is $6. So I did the completely logical thing and drove 90 minutes to their Covina branch. Let me say the food was delicious, but very heavy. Don’t do what I did and order fries, curry, and their Wagyu Burger. You’ll leave the place miserably full, not because of the food, but because you’re questioning why you stuffed your face. I should’ve taken the food to go. Portions are generous. Their wagyu burger is delicious, but I wouldn’t order any other entree with it. It’s decadence in between buns 🤤In the future, adding onions, lettuce, and pickles should be added as an option to cut through all the grease you’ll be licking off your face and plate. The curry is delicious though I wish I ordered the spicy option. Medium has a kick, but I like more spice. The Chicken Katsu was so crispy, but did lack seasoning. Overall, I would go back, but not in this store because of how far it is. But this is a great place to eat. Great service. My water glass was always full. A perfect spot to take a date to!

Overall, the food was really good. I think the curry could use more flavor, but the wagyu steak was the best part of the wagyu steak with curry dish. The chirashi bowl was delicious and the gyudon was the best tasting dish with a fair price.

Great Japanese restaurant with a varied menu of options.you order on a tablet at your table. They have appetizers, entrees, sides, desserts, and drinks. The staff are nice and quick with the food. The curry is delicious and you can choose your spiciness level. There is seating downstairs and upstairs.

You will definitely leave this place feeling chubby. The portions are large for the price. The wagyu beef curry I ordered was delicious. Gf ordered the katsu curry medium. It was tasty but spicy. Perhaps next time go with the lowest heat level. Overall the $20 a plate does make up for it in portions and flavor.

A very clean restaurant with attentive service, decent portions, and some tasty curry. The wagyu curry was tender and hearty, and the chicken was moist and fried to perfection. Yellow tail handroll was a great appetizer. Also appreciated the helpful and attentive service from the staff!

While walking and wondering around figuring out what to have for lunch, I came upon Chubby Curry front window. I saw the pictures on the window decided to come in and try it. I ordered the chicken Katsu, charred broccoli, Japanese Rice, Wagyu gyoza dumplings. Katsu chicken was perfectly fried to a crunch after each bite. Chili sauce complemented the meal. Definitely a comebacker. Food and service was excellent.

Ordered the spicy and non spicy curry. Both were well prepared. Also ordered the katsu on the side caused I didn't want the curry to drench out the crunchy skin and it was good. Overall everything was great here including the service and attention given to detail. Will definitely return to try a few other items. Thanks for the dinner!

I found out that this place opened in Covina, while searching on Yelp to find some food. In downtown Citrus I found out that this place is affiliated with Chubby Cattle, the Korean BBQ place. You could become a member, and it would be affiliated to all the other restaurants they have. I attached a photo of the others in case you were wondering. So since it was affiliated I assumed that this place would be good. Well it was a decent experience but I think there could be things better. I liked that there was a Tablet to order, but we had to enter our table number which we didnt know. The service could have been better, it was our first time there but it was assumed that we knew how to work the system. It is nice that there is a big parking lot in the back. I can say be prepared to spend at least $20 per dish. The food was actually pretty good, The Don Burry Bowl, was the Star of the show. The Curry Wagyu was good, but personally I would probably want to eat Wagyu another way. The salmon hand roll was very basic, with rice, seaweed, sesame seed and some soy sauce. I thought there would have been a bit of wasabi, but there wasn’t. What was interesting is that they have a hot chili oil, which I have to say is pretty good. There is a first floor and a 2nd floor and the place looked pretty clean. If you are looking for Japanese Curry and dont want to go too far, this spot will definitely hit the spot and is worth a try.

Came here to try the curry and it was good. It wasn't amazing but not bad either. Hits the spot when craving japanese curry. Spice level was regular, felt heat as you ate more. The wagyu steak was cooked nice and not tough to eat. Also had salmon hand rolls that were good. I'd come back if in the area but wouldn't make a trip specifically for here. Atmosphere was nice and simple too.

First time and really enjoyed the food. Personally a little pricey for lunch, IMO, but glad I tried it. Some of the portions are pretty large, so you can get away with a side of katsu for lunch if you’re not a huge eater for $11-12. Beef curry will run you about $23. I ordered both and had leftovers. Buddy tried a few more dishes so we can try a little bit of everything and probably ended up ordering too much! Haha! Would I go back, for sure. The katsu was the stand out for sure. Crispy and tasty. The portion and price was a plus too. Next time I’ll just go with the katsu curry, but had to try the wagyu beef curry my first time there.

Celebrated our Christmas early with the cousins. We decided to come here since they just opened. Parking: Good luck with parking! There’s some street parking, metered parking, and a few parking lots. We got lucky with a spot in the parking lot behind the restaurant. Ambiance/Environment: It’s a fairly medium sized space. They have two stories with the bar being upstairs. Since it’s new, the inside was clean and had anime decor. Service: Every Chubby location is very similar. You’d order via the tablet, servers bring you your order, and you pay at the end. The only time we interacted with our server was when they filled our waters and removed empty plates. What we ordered: 1) Chubby Curry Wagyu Steak - The curry was really flavorful! Not too salty. There was a generous amount of rice. Although the steak was cooked perfectly medium rare, it had a cleaning/chemical taste. That was my least favorite part of the dish. 2) Waffle Fries w/ aonori - These were amazing appetizers! It paired perfectly with the Wagyu Burger and don’t forget to dip! 3) Wagyu Burger - The burger was my favorite! It was bigger than we thought lol. I added cheese, and I promise it’s worth it. The Wagyu was very juicy and cooked well. Pricing: It is more on the pricier end. I thought the waffle fries and Wagyu burger was worth it. The curry is good, but I wish I chose a different curry dish.

Did they delete my bad review from last time? Second time here, the roast beef don is good, fries is good, fried oyster normal Udon too salty Spciy curry too sour Normal curry is better But still dont think this place is a legit curry place doesnt feel like it Indeed more like a family restrants they sell everything fried food burger sushi curry noodle The 2nd floor is big and interior is nice A lot of table nice for big families and gathering But they only use ipad to order so do takes times to read for everyone and hard to find waiter sometimes

While the store is cute (meh, as cute as it can get with tacky Japanese art on curtains mixed with actually cute One Piece figurines), the food is very overpriced for its size, taste, and service. It took a very long time for the iPad to get to us before we can order, and afterwards the food took almost 25 minutes to come out. We couldn’t flag down a waiter for water refills for a while. While they may look large in the photo, they were oddly unfulfilling portions with shocking prices considering the taste. The gyudon was small and not all that flavorful/salty? Katsu curry was much larger but wasn’t anything special; I felt like it would have been tastier if I made it at home. A lot of rice. The worst offender was the dumplings. Don’t get those. It came out first before the main dishes, and we were so disappointed in them that we were dreading our actual mains. Terrible sauce, thick skin, skimpy meat, flavorless, and cold. And barely an inch and a half in size. I don’t know how one can mess up so badly on dumplings and have the audacity to charge that much for them just because it was wagyu or something. The meat was the worst part of that dish. I’m hoping it was maybe just a bad one time experience. While I personally wouldn’t go back again, give it a shot. Maybe I just got unlucky that day.

I had high expectations for this Japanese curry restaurant, but unfortunately, it didn’t live up to them. The “Wagyu” is not Wagyu tasted like ordinary, inexpensive beef, nothing special in terms of texture or flavor. It definitely didn’t have the rich, buttery quality you’d expect. The curry itself was just mediocre. The lunch should cost $30, now cost $60. Sadly, it’s not a place I would return to. The restaurant is run by Chinese not Japanese
