Absolutely incredible service. The moment you finish a dish there’s someone there to pick up the plate to get it out of your way. We loved our meals as well. The Florida roll was amazing and their award winning drink was immaculate. Thanks to Jacob our server for giving us a great experience. The fried cheesecake for dessert was one of the best desserts we’ve ever had as well. We will be back. Highly recommended
Is this a five star restaurant? Everything from the service to the food—even the bus-staff were absolutely delightful! I reserved some space for a small bachelor party and was taken aback at just how welcoming and accommodating the staff was! One of the owners (Jason) even met with me prior and gave me premier service. I have NEVER been treated so well at ANY establishment in my life. Our server (Si Si) and her assistant (Vito) were not only efficient at their job, but they were kind and friendly. I would have been fine if they had pulled up chairs and joined us, as they knew how to make us feel welcomed. As for the food? I don’t think better sushi exists. The apps were delightful. Entrees superb. This place gets my business for the rest of my life! Thank you, Tsunami crew!
It's been about nine years since I've been to a Tsunami (ate at the Brandon location) so this was a real treat. The Lakewood Ranch location is nestled in a shopping and residential center. It's a wonderful Japanese restaurant with a great variety of hibachi dishes, types of sushi, and bento style lunches. I had lunch with my family for a celebration. The staff is super friendly and treated all of us really well. I can truly say that all of the food was perfectly outstanding. For an appetizer we shared the Lava Rock, filet mignon cooked at the table on a hot stone (watch my video). We also shared the edamame and something called Monkey Brain (stuffed avocado with spicy tuna, Kani, eel-sauce, and spicy mayo. Yes, it was really tasty. We also shared Shroomy and Evergreen rolls. The entrees that were served were the pineapple fried rice (fried rice served inside of a pineapple), shrimp hibachi, vegetable hibachi, and chicken hibachi. Everything was really good and I will definitely be going back. If you like a good hibachi and some fun appetizers then I recommend Tsunami. Oh...the decorations are great. Very eclectic plus the have Spider-Man crawling up the wall (see photos).
Best sushi we have had in this area! Lava rock filet was melt in your mouth. Spicy edamame def has a kick! Fried rice was very good. Will be a top place for us. FYI If you are looking for the hibachi where they cook in front of you, this location does not have that. You can order the hibachi as a meal though.
From appetizers to desserts, the food here was hands down amazing! The Hurricane roll was my favorite. My 6 year old daughter is a very picky eater, so they cooked her fried rice exactly how she likes. The atmosphere and service was awesome as well! We will definitely be back when we visit with family again! So sad we live in Georgia and can’t enjoy it as much as we would like to 😩
Great sushi place! We were late for our reservation because Google map was incorrect and took us 4 miles west of the restaurant. Restaurant staff called us as we were driving around in the pouring rain looking for the restaurant and told us not to worry and they are holding our reservation and gave us directions to the place. Once we got there, our table was waiting. Service was great. Caring staff. Sushi was amazing. Drinks were really good as well. Definitely a great time and will be returning. Thank you.
First time visiting this newer business in the area and it did not disappoint. The food was so good! From the sushi, to pot stickers, to Mongolian beef....one dish was even better than the first. The cocktails were tasty too. We sat at the bar counter and the staff were friends and engaging.
We came here on a whim and were blown away by the experience. There was no wait (5:30 on a Saturday), the service was exceptional (shoutout to our server Kody), and the food was amazing. We had the One Night Stand and TNT rolls and the chicken hibachi. All entrées were fantastic. We also had the spicy garlic edamame per our server’s recommendation & it was amazing. I had two cocktails which were strong and delicious. We’ll be back for sure!
Ordered a paradise roll for takeout on Christmas night…hands down the best sushi roll I’ve had in the area. It’s taken me a while to try this place because of the prices, but it was worth it. I spent $20 with tax for one roll. It was a good portion size and perfect for a light dinner. Quality service and atmosphere from first impressions.
Tried for the first time at lunch. Very picky about sushi and Tsunami delivered! It was excellent. The soup, salad, rangoons and sushi rolls were all devine. Our server, Dave, (also a bartender) was delightful and took care of everything in a timely manner and was very helpful with decision making. Definitely recommend!!
We had an awesome dinner at Tsunami tonight! Lydia was our server who kept us laughing and well fed the entire time! We had a wonderful assistant server named Javie who made sure that we were well looked after. Javie made it a truly memorable experience! We had been to Tsunami on Sarasota and knew we liked the food, but this location really rocked it with the service! We will be back!
Lydia served us, did wonderful. Food was incredible and they were able to accommodate my food sensitivity with ease and it was still incredible. We weren’t interrupted every 10 minutes. Loved the design of the restaurant too, very entertaining to look at. Very happy.
Absolutely 5 stars! This sushi spot is an absolute standout — the moment you walk in, you're greeted by a modern, creative atmosphere that feels both stylish and welcoming. The attention to detail in the design instantly sets the tone for an unforgettable dining experience. The sushi is exceptional. Every bite tastes incredibly fresh, beautifully crafted, and thoughtfully balanced. You can really tell that the chefs here care deeply about their craft — each roll feels like its own little work of art. The service is top-tier as well. Friendly, attentive, and genuinely passionate about the menu, the staff makes the whole experience feel seamless and enjoyable. And I have to give a special mention to the owner Jeffrey— truly incredible. Warm, enthusiastic, and clearly dedicated to creating a restaurant that people love. His presence adds a personal touch that elevates the entire experience. If you're looking for sushi that’s both creative and flawless, served in a gorgeous space by people who care — this is the place. Highly, highly recommended! 🍣✨
Absolutely incredible experience! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The filet mignon was cooked to absolute perfection, tender, flavorful, and unforgettable. The yellowtail and the sweet-potato avocado rolls were absolutely delicious as well, fresh and full of flavor. The rolls were warm, soft, and everything you hope for in comfort bites that stay on your mind long after the meal. A huge thank-you to Jeffrey, who was incredibly hospitable, with such a warm and genuine persona. He made us feel so welcome from the moment we arrived, and the gift certificate was such a thoughtful surprise, truly appreciated! And a special shoutout to Lydia, whose service was exceptional. Her kindness, attentiveness, and warm energy made the evening feel like home. The ambience is inviting, cozy, chic and the perfect setting to celebrate my birthday. Everything about the night felt special from beginning to end. Looking forward to experiencing the new Hanami when it opens! 🍽️✨
It’s always a great meal, wonderful service, and inviting atmosphere. Jeffrey and his staff are so personable and professional. We have been going to Tsunami for years, first in sarasota and over the last couple years this newer location… which is nothing short of great! Our meals are always very fresh, flavorful, and delicious! They always take great care and make the experience pleasant. Thank you Jeffrey and staff for always making every meal great!
Decided to have our birthday dinner here and it was wonderful! Best sushi in the area and curry is delicious. I haven’t had a waitress this good in a long time. She made us laugh and was very attentive. Lydia is the best!
Tsunami is our go-to sushi place. Quality of the food is excellent and service is top notch. Definitely go for lunch, where there are good specials for the sushi rolls. Our favorites are the Double J and Georgia rolls - not typical rolls, but very good.
My family have been to Tsunami Sushi several times, and every visit has been wonderful. The staff are always friendly and attentive, the food is fresh and full of flavor, and the restaurant has such a nice, welcoming atmosphere. I’ve seen some negative reviews, but our experiences have always been nothing but positive. We truly appreciate restaurants that put their heart into what they do. We’ll definitely continue to support Tsunami Sushi and hope they keep up their great service and passion — so we can keep enjoying the freshest and most delicious food every time!
This review is for the Lakewood Ranch location. The downtown Sarasota location closed months ago. Tsunami in Lakewood Ranch delivers consistently good sushi — clean cuts, fresh fish, and polished presentation — but what elevates the experience is how intentionally everything is put together beyond the plate. While most of the dining room is traditional table seating, the experience itself is bar-led. The bar program and staff knowledge noticeably shape how the menu is meant to be enjoyed. Bartenders ask the right questions, offer thoughtful sake recommendations, and can explain styles and pairings in a way that actually makes sense with the food. If you want that level of guidance, sitting at the bar is where Tsunami really clicks. We’ve had David as a bartender several times and have appreciated his recommendations. If you haven’t been in a while, the chairs have improved from when they first opened. Yes, it’s on the pricier side — but you’re paying for service, atmosphere, and cohesion, not just raw fish. The decor is immersive and detailed, and even small touches (lighting, design elements, bathrooms) feel considered rather than incidental. For anyone interested in the bar program, sake selections, and atmosphere details, I documented a longer, field-style review on The Stray Gourmet. This isn’t a quick sushi stop or a bargain play. It’s a place for date nights, lingering over drinks, and enjoying a well-run program where the staff clearly knows their craft.
First time here but with a large group and we tried a great variety of selections. Everything was fresh. The miso soup was nicely concentrated, not watery like many I’ve tried. Shrimp were large and tender,. The General Tso’s were meaty, not over breaded, and tangy, more sweet than spicy. They’ve won several local awards in the last few years. Well deserved. A definite must to visit.
I came in today looking to redeem a bad sushi experience from another place, and Tsunami absolutely nailed it. The sushi was fresh, clean, and perfectly balanced no drowning in sauces or deep-fried crumbs, just high-quality fish prepared with real skill. I didn’t even need soy sauce, which says everything about the quality here. I also told the bartender “dealer’s choice, just make it bourbon,” and he created one of the best cocktails I’ve had in a long time a custom blend of bourbon, cognac, orange bitters, and an orange twist. Perfectly balanced, aromatic, and clearly crafted with care. The mint and peach julep was equally fantastic. Between the food, the drinks, and the attention to detail, this place genuinely impressed me. If you want sushi and cocktails made by people who actually care about what they’re doing, Tsunami is absolutely worth the visit.
Samantha was our waitress and she was absolutely amazing!! Very sweet and attentive! She was able to give great recommendations for sushi rolls or my husband and I! Super clean restaurant and great staff in general! Would highly recommend!
beautiful rolls and wide variety of dishes to choose from! the fish is very fresh and flavorful. i would highly recommend coming here for a date night or special occasion! ^^
Kids love their Chicken Katsu. Wife enjoyed the filet and shrimp hibachi and I like their dynamite fried shrimp with spicy sauce. The ambiance was very nice and the service was excellent
From the very first moment at Tsunami Sushi, Cocktails & Grill, our experience was excellent. We tried sushi, soup, and meat dishes, and every single item was delicious. The food tasted very fresh, and everything was prepared surprisingly fast. The team at Tsunami Sushi, Cocktails & Grill provided great service — attentive, friendly, and professional. The atmosphere is comfortable and welcoming, which makes this place perfect for dinner with family or friends. In summary, fresh food, quick preparation, and wonderful flavors made our visit memorable. I highly recommend Tsunami Sushi, Cocktails & Grill to everyone!
Everything is AMAZING! Huge menu selection. Love all of their sushi rolls. Excellent fish, beef, chicken and vegetarian options. All of the servers are excellent and the owner is very personable! Fantastic mixed drinks as well! Highly recommend, the best sushi around!
Tried this place for the first time. We were pretty impressed with the atmosphere, service, food quality, and overall character of this place. Our lovely server Lydia was phenomenal! She have answered all of our questions, explained the menu details, and made recommendations on how hungry we are. My husband tried their award winning strawberry lemon drop drink and loved it!!!! Definitely we will come back to this location again! Awesome place!
Excellent restaurant and I really enjoyed the food. This was my first time eating here so I was not sure what to expect. They have a pretty large menu with many options. When I first open the menu, I thought everything was pretty expensive compared to other restaurants. When the food arrived, I was pleasantly surprised on how good the quality of the food was. You get what you pay for here. It is worth the premium. Service was super attentive and friendly. Layla was my server and she was awesome.
Tsunami Sushi is one of the best sushi restaurants I know in Sarasota — the interior is beautiful, it’s a wonderful place to spend time, and I’m a very happy customer. I really love this spot and can’t wait for them to reopen their downtown Sarasota location.
Our server Lydia was fun, helpful, attentive and such a wonderful part of our experience. The drinks were great. The saki flight was tasty and the food was excellent. We had spicy garlic edamame-yum! And a variety of fun named rolls. This place is very busy because it’s so good but we never felt rushed in any way. What a great place. Will be back when visiting the area ❤️
Love coming here for their lunch specials (great time to come in and try new rolls) service is always great and we love the vibes

We haven't sat at a table yet, but the bar was a great jam and Elly was the bomb. Best sushi I've had in Florida outside of Miami and good portions and prices.
Our new favorite in LWR! My husband and I had dinner there last night and it was such a fantastic experience! The bartender Patrick was excellent! His attentiveness really made our experience so wonderful; we both had waters within one minute of sitting down and he took great care of us all evening, even helping with the Japanese whiskey selections that we were interested in. The food was delicious, we got a whole sushi boat and the Hot rock steak. The music is a lot of fun too! Very upbeat and energetic without being so loud that you can’t actually speak to one another. We will definitely be returning and bringing friends! ☺️👍🍣
We recently had dinner at tsunami for the very first time we actually drove an hour to eat there and we are so happy we did. The restaurant was beautiful, clean and the vibe was exactly what we look for. We had a lovely waitress named Lyndsy that after talking to her for a bit we learned was brand new to tsunami and we were so impressed, She recommended a lychee martini to drink since I've never had one and boy is it now one of my new favorites! I personally wanted cooked roll recommendations since my husband was dead set on hibachi so we opted to share everything, We tried each roll she recommended to us which were the Big daddy, the Nemo and the crimson. Everything was so fresh and delicious and we will absolutely be back it was totally worth the drive, we plan on bringing friends along next time!
I've been to the Lakewood Ranch location several times after the downtown closed, and I have to say I absolutely love the environment. All the servers provide great hospitality and are super nice, especially this young man named Max in lunch time. I have also met the owner Jeffrey, and I was nicely greeted and even got a drink on the house. The award winning Strawberry Lemon-Drop Martini just gets better every time i have it! Kudos to Dave the bartender!!
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was lovely, the service was great, and our waitress Julia was so kind and welcoming. I am so glad that we found this place and chose to spend Valentine's day here! I can't wait to come back again. They have so many options, including a bunch of vegan options, and every single thing we ordered was wonderful.
We had some family in town for the holidays and the overwhelming consensus was to get some sushi. Since Tsunami is the family favorite in the LWR area, our choice was already made. We walked in with no reservation and were fortunate enough to get seat right away as the place was (and always is) very busy. Our server was Lydia and she did an outstanding job. My apologies for not remembering her name, but her partner in crime that evening also did a great job. The owner Jeffrey is seemingly ALWAYS there ensuring everything is on point and that the patrons are enjoying themselves. Pair hands-on ownership, a great atmosphere, delicious food, and impeccable service, it is a guarantee we will continue to frequent this establishment. Thank you for always making our dining experience a great one!

Not entirely sure why "hibachi" is part of the name since there's no actual hibachi grill where they cook in front of you - everything's prepared behind the scenes. That said, the food we did try was quite tasty. We enjoyed several sushi rolls and the hibachi chicken was decent. We've been eagerly awaiting this place's opening, so perhaps our expectations were a tad high. However, it's worth noting that the service was exceptional - all the staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making the overall experience very pleasant.
It was my birthday dinner and our server Gustavo was very nice with us. I was sitting between the bar area and the aquarium area, so we have people walking on both sides of our table. We have a reservation, but looks like that was the only option. The appetizer was good, but we wait too long for the food. Kitty sushi and the Lollipop was good. I like to enjoy my food, but is was difficult between all the loud noise and having people on both sides of our table 🤨. If I go back, I rather have a table outside. 🍣 🍱 🍰
Stopped in for dinner with two other couples. We had a reservation. The food was quite good, my wife and I shared an entree of yakisoba noodles with crispy tofu (delicious, but maybe a bit small), Origami and Hot Mama sushi ( although we had ordered Bahama, $10 cheaper but didn't know until bill game). Sushi was excellent, fresh and presented nicely. We also had Japanese beer. Everything was a little pricey but all in all a great experience. Recommended!

My family and friends have been waiting years for Tsunami to open closer to us. We got a chance to try it and have mixed feelings. We arrived a few minutes before opening at 4:30 and were 4th in line to get in. We were a party of 10 and were immediately sat at a table. 15 minutes after opening it was packed. Food: Everything we had was enjoyable. We ordered a edamame, tempura calamari, tempura shrimp, spicy mani salad, a sushi boat, pineapple fried rice, General Tso Chicken, and hibachi noodles for the kids. All of it was prepared perfectly and was tasty. Note: there is no kids menu. Service: Our waitress was fast and attentive. There were many employees supporting her running drinks, refilling water, and clearing the table. The first round of drinks was spilled on us by accident so much that one person in the party had to go home to change. The staff apologized profusely but no other accommodations were made. Atmosphere: The restaurant is decorated beautifully and has fish tanks separating the main dining area and the bar area. There are no hibachi grills on the dining floor. Everything is prepared in the kitchen and delivered to the table. Seating is limited so this place fills up fast!
Went here a few nights ago and fell extremely ill in the following day. Extremely ill, I filed a complaint with the board of health! I noticed some bad practices with the waiters grabbing dirty dishes and not cleaning their hands. The place smelt a bit funky, it needs a good cleaning I think. A deep cleaning. Sticky sticky. Insanely expensive, I get it's LWR but this is priced for Miami or NYC. Plenty of other great spots to spend your money than this place. Too bad because it looks cute. Needs new people to run it and give it a good cleaning.
Highly Over rated not worth the prices Food definitely basic and just ok but not worth going back unfortunately. Over priced, and def caused me getting food sick afterwords
DO NOT COME HERE! WORST SERVICE EVER! We had Jay as our server and he was absolutely horrible. We came in right before lunch was over and was aware and ordered everything as soon as he came over. If it was that big of an issue don’t seat us. We would have gladly went somewhere else. Mind you the last seating on the door says 2:15 NOT LAST CALL. Despite this we ordered immediately because we did not want to be a pain. He took 12 minutes to grab drinks our apps came first. His persona made me lose my appetite completely. He should find a job where speaking to people isn’t required. Then told me I couldn’t get the drink I ordered because the bar is closed, despite me ordering before everything was closed. Mind you I work in the restaurant industry and typically if someone is just making last call we give them some grace because I want to make more money so does the company and also you want to leave ur guest happy! NOT HERE AND NOT WITH JAY! We had to ask for a busser to grab us the waters we asked for. We told them their sprite needed a new soda bib, never brought us a fresh sprite. Asked to speak to a manager, yet the manager never came to the table. Tells you a lot about how they care about their guests experiences. Not sure why they couldn’t have made the sangria. Instead people laughing. I have never not tipped but after a thumbs up was given by my server I was in disbelief. Asked for boxes for our entrees, as in plural, and brought back one singular box. Never coming here again. Telling everyone how horrible it is. DO NOT COME HERE.
