3 of us got the BBQ baked potato 🥔. It was huge!! Completely loaded. We each got a small to go container and put half of it in it and had a second meal. It was delicious. The barbecue sauce is really good too. They are very happy and to see you when you come in!, great service. They have all kinds of desserts to offer you as well. They want to make sure you’re happy with your meal! Give it a try.!

Haven't been to Carl's in a while. I had heard a rumor that my favorite BBQ place may close & I just had to get back. I'm so glad I did. My son and i enjoyed an amazing dinner. The food was so very good & the service was great. Clean & sanitized, Covid-19 compliant. I asked & the rumor was dispelled. I hope we can enjoy Carl's for years to come!!

So I ended up forgetting my lunch for work and discovered this place not too far from where I had to work from. Decided to give it a shot. Good Food, Great Service. If given the chance again, I definitely want to come back again and order something different. I took one look at their menu and wanted to order one of everything. So I'm eager to come back and try their ribs!! P.S. this place is a lot bigger than what it looks like from the outside.

This is definitely your family/backyard style BBQ place. They have a large variety of sides. I agree with a previous reviewer that the sausage could use more flavoring. Brisket could be a bit more moist. I have been twice now, so I haven’t tried some of the other menu items. I will definitely return. If you’re looking for a good place to meet as a group, they have a great meeting room in the back and covered seating outside.

Good, old school, unpretentious BBQ from a super friendly crew that will take care of you!! BBQ is good. Sausage needs a little more flavor. Onion rings, Chicken Fried Steak and Chicken Fried Chicken rock.

Stuffed baked potato was really good. Flavorful and meat was juicy. Definitely must try. Brisket tacos are good too. The bbq sauce made it taste even better. One of my friends recommended this place. Would surely visit again.

I’m only giving it 4 and not 5 because I had to return to get the correct order after I was given another’s order. I have to say the Banana Pudding was the best I’ve ever tasted!the bqq sauce amazing! Let’s not forget the sides, specifically the potato salad, GREAT TASTIN’!

Situated on the east side of US 290 right next to Weiser Air Park in Cypress, Carl’s BBQ doesn’t look too fancy – which is typically a good sign for barbecue joints. But they really do turn out some good barbecue, sides and desserts. They use four gas cabinet pits and burn only mesquite wood. I wasn’t able to get a tour of the pit room, and the gentleman working as cutter was not certain of the smoker brand – but my guess based on the description given is that they use Southern Pride pits. They offer a wide variety of smoked meats, including brisket, two kinds of sausage, pulled pork, ham, pork ribs, chicken and turkey. Their pricing was very reasonable – so I opted for a three-meat plate. And of course I had to choose the Texas trinity of brisket, sausage and ribs. Brisket – The brisket had a decent smoke ring and well-rendered fat. It was not incredibly smokey. But it still had a good flavor. Ribs – The pork ribs were definitely a winner. Those were some outstanding ribs. Carl’s clearly sources an excellent and large pork spare rib. Then they use a good rub and smoke each rack very nicely. The fat was well-rendered, and they were very moist and flavorful. With each bite, the meat pulled away from the bone nicely with a tug, but didn’t just fall off the bone. Sausage – They offer two different kinds of sausage at Carl’s. I tried the jalapeno link. It had a very nice great grind and was very tasty. For anyone concerned about too much kick in a jalapeno link, no need for worries here, as it is not overly spicy at all. Sides – I am generally very focused (justifiably, I believe) on the smoked meats when I go to a barbecue joint. However, one of the sides at Carl’s had me intrigued. And there was good justification, as their Baked Potato Casserole stole the show. It was really very tasty, with a great combination of ingredients. It is just a very well put-together side dish. The coleslaw, on the other hand, was pretty average. It was certainly passable and very edible, but nothing to write home about. I tried a bite of my barbecue buddy Craig’s Green Bean Casserole. It was also very good with plenty of french-fried onions on top and good flavor. Sauce, jalapeño corn bread, pickles & onions – Carl’s makes some very tasty barbecue sauce. And they offer a good selection of breads, including very flavorful jalapeño cornbread muffins that are self-serve. They also very standard fare pickle chips & sliced white onions. Sadly, I totally spaced taking a picture of their most excellent Texas Sheet Cake. It is made in house and is a cross between a Texas sheet cake and a brownie. It had an outstanding dense consistency, with truly delicious frosting and a very nice chocolate-y flavor.

Stopped in for lunch and ordered a chopped beef baked potato. It was okay, filling and priced right, but the beef didn't have the smoked flavor I was hoping for. This was my first visit, and while they do offer lunch specials with Entrees and sides, I'd probably choose another BBQ spot with better options next time.

As a true bbq fan and being in Texas, the food here was not that good. Barely warm , Mac & cheese had no taste. Cafeteria style food. Good service tho. Highly do not recommend this place if you’re a bbq fan

The sides are a rip off in my opinion. They are $4 each for about one cup serving. I know the cost of everything has gone up, but $4 for a cup of mash potatoes from a mix is crazy. I bought a chopped brisket sandwich, and two sides cost almost as much as the sandwich. The problem is most of these sides, like the mash potatoes, are NOT made from scratch. You can tell by their side textures that they are restaurant supply sides like Sysco or something (just add water and warm them up.) If the masses potatoes were made from scratch that might come closer to justifying 4 bucks for a scoop. If there was a "plate" option where the sides might be cheaper, they could have suggested that, but they didn't. And for a carry out order they STILL asked for a tip. That really irked me after getting charged $8 for beans and mashed potatoes. I was planning to bring my family here for a meal but not anymore, the sides will bankrupt you. I won't be coming back.
