Amanis Restaurant is an amazing dining experience for anyone that appreciates great culinary eats and an atmosphere of fine dining. They serve seasonal foods that are local and real! You can't beat the quality here. The food is superb and is an example of you paying for what you get in regards to quality. We came for lunch and got a large variety of foods. The highlight oddly enough was the brisket fries for me! I really liked them. The surf and turf "Kirby Burger" is a thing to remember. The chef Johnathan is one of Chester County's best cooks in the kitchen and it shows. This is a highest stand of food around! I really like being able to see the chefs cooking while you wait. I love most everything about this restaurant and will be coming back again!
One of our favorite places to have dinner in the burbs. I would describe the food as upscale comfort food. They change the menu on a regular basis, so there is some good variety. They also have a really good a la cart brunch on the weekends. We usually ask for Rick as our wait staff representative. John is also a very hands on owner/chef!
Great food in Downingtown. Went here with my wife, son and d11yo granddaughter. (Menu is not particularly kid friendly) We tried three appetizers The Braised Pork Belly, Crispy Point Judith calamari, and the Cheese Plate. The pork belly is great and a fairly large portion, it was the winner of the three. The calamari were good but what made the plate was the pickled pepper medley that was included on the plate they were delicious. The cheese plate was good with three nice cheeses, the fennel infused goat cheese being the best of them all. The bacon jelly included on the cheese plate was also a winner. The waitress however when serving the cheese plate did not tell us what the cheeses were and for the matter did not know and had to ask other personnel what they were, after we made the point of asking. I ordered the Seared Duck Breast which was cooked to the correct temperature and the blood orange sauce was a perfect pairing. My son ordered the Bouillabaisse which he enjoyed but thought the sauces was a little to thick. My wife got the Scampi Style Gulf Shrimp she liked it also. My granddaughter got the Smoked Chicken Risotto she thought it was a little light on chicken and heavy on the risotto, but she enjoyed it. For dessert we got the Jewish Apple Cake and the Chocolate Ganache Tart to share and both were very good. The restaurant is small and there is no noise level to interfere with conversation. Service was very good. I look forward to dinning here again.
We went to Amani’s for the first time tonight and loved it! My wife and I both tried the pork special they had and we both agreed that it was so good! The service was EXCELLENT. We were very impressed. Our server Chris was one of the best servers we’ve ever had. This is a great local spot right in the heart of the borough of Downingtown. Not too pricey either, I would say the prices are fair for the quality of food you are getting. We will definitely be back and we can’t wait to try more of their dishes! We highly recommend.
Went here on a date night and it was amazing. We had great service from start to finish. The food was incredibly good. We got an espresso martini to try for our dessert drink and I can say it’s one of the best ones I’ve ever had!! Highly recommend this restaurant!

Amani’s never disappoints, incredible every time! This was our first time back since the renovations, the food was just as good as it’s always been. The updated look feels more modern without losing the classic intimate feel of Amani’s
This was not my first time at Amani's and surely will not be my last. Their pre fixe menus for holidays are always phenomenal and their daily menu is out of this world as well. You cannot go wrong with any choice here.
A small local rather expensive little restaurant. There is a $10 uncorking fee for your BYOB wine. Reservations are needed since such a small place. Unfortunately, my friend's stuffed chicken with prosciutto had very little prosciutto just placed on top but Not stuffed.
Always a great experience. New look is great and same great food. Adding smoked food to the menu is a wonderful addition on these trying times.
Great food and great atmosphere for a quiet date night also great selection of PA beers and spirits!
Delicious food! Quaint place, impressive plate presentation, love sitting by the window.
I have been blessed in that I have eaten in many fine restaurants in Europe and London and across the world. Amani's is right up there with them. This is doubtless our favourite restaurant in Chester County both for entertaining business guests and private dining. We (two couples) went back again this week. The food is superb, especially the Lamb which just falls off the bone and the beef can be cut with a fork and against the grain. We have always found the attention to detail in the preparation and the service to be 5 star. The outer decor of the restaurant is unassuming and wouldn't attract a second glance from the road. There is a sidewalk set of tables and chairs for eating outside. Recommended time to set aside for dining? 60 - 90 minutes. It is neither NY nor Mayfair as regards the decor but you could be in Spain or Italy. Yes as another reviewer commented the noise level is on the high side but so is both the enthusiasm and the ambiance reminds me a lot of Tapas Bars in Madrid and Barcelona. I am very happy to recommend Amani's.
This was by far my favorite restaurant experience in years. First off, the cocktails were literally mind blowing. The passion spice was unbelievable and might possibly tie for 1st on my list of life long favorite cocktails. The food was out of this world. The achiote brisket tacos NEED TO BE ON THE MENU PERMANENTLY! I was absolutely blown away. The smoked wings may also rival the best wings I've ever had. The service was top notch. The bartenders are clearly masters of their craft and the drinks reflect that. Overall my most satisfying date night in years. We will absolutely be back.
The food is amazing ! The bruschetta was delicious but has bacon so not vegetarian. The lobster entree was indescribably good. Even though we split the appetizer we unfortunately had no room for dessert. It's a little far but try to get here every few months. Always a great meal !
Amani's has been our favorite spot for special occasions and never disappoints. I have many dietary restrictions and not only are they always accommodated, but the chef will create a special dinner that doesn't make me feel like I'm settling or an inconvenience. Jon and Health are geniuses in the kitchen, and Jeannine is absolutely lovely. You can tell that customer service and relationships is their highest priority. Thank you for being such an upstanding, high class, phenomenal establishment. We will continue to support them and know that throughout the pandemic, flood and whatever else may come, they will make it through and only get better (if that's even possible!). Thank you!
We had our rehearsal dinner there for our wedding and we could not have chosen a better place! First of all, the staff was outstanding and easy to work with during all the planning. It is such a cute restaurant that we were able to rent the entire space for our party of 35. The most important thing was the food! Our guests could not stop talking about the delicious choices they had for their 4 course dinner that night. It also was not too expensive either. I highly recommend this restaurant we will be visiting a lot more!
This place is byob, they will take your alcohol and keep it cold for you as you enjoy their menu. This place is not exactly kid friendly as I did not notice a kids menu. The food is delicious and the variety on the menu is just as appealing as the food. If you are looking for a nice romantic place to take your significant other this place is one of the spots in Chester county I would recommend. I had the duck when i went and it was full of flavor, the grits were sweet. Definitely a place I will be visiting next time I am in the Chester County area.
So worth going!! It's a bit pricey but every bit worth the cost. If you're vegan, just ask the for the Chef's vegan meal - they'll ask you if there's anything you dislike and then create a vegan meal just for you! A delicious surprise with every visit. Just make sure you bring your own drinks or spirits for mixers...BYOB doesn't just mean you CAN bring your own, it means you MUST if you want a drink. They have great mixers though so just bring a small bit of whichever spirit you want
We have been dining at Amani for many years. Our meal last night was fantastic! Best ever, and that’s saying something because it’s always a cut above. The recent addition of cocktails, wine and beer completes the experience. We started with inventive cocktails and tasty appetizers, including a fantastic pork belly and ribeye bruschetta. The duck, scallop and monk fish entrees were amazing. Can’t wait to go back!
The best thing about Amani's is how interesting their menu is, changes with the seasons and their nightly specials have yet to disappoint. There is a lot of creativity in these dishes and well executed with flavor and presentation. Just trust them. I recently had octopus escabeche tacos in their upstairs Amani's North and was blown away. Other hits have been the elevation of the humble (and typically boring) chicken breast prepared via sous vide with lemon, soooo good. Also have enjoyed their specials (and hope they find a place for these on the regular menu) such as salmon with farro & brussel sprouts, and a tomahawk porkchop with some kind of sauce (espresso was mentioned I believe?) but more like crack, as I quickly regretted not getting it as takeout so I could sit at home and lick it clean. The appetizers are also creatively delicious--I could happily order the mushroom napoleon every week. They are a little pricier than the other restaurants in town, but worth it whether you want to just treat yourself or impress out of town friends.
Amani's is amazing!! The husband and I went out for our monthly rendezvous (we like to pretend we're food critics), and were delighted by this place! The service was on point, and the food was out of this world. We've been to many places during our Chester County Restaurant Tour (we need a life), and so far this our favorite spot. Highly recommend!
My son and daughter-in-law were celebrating their 1st wedding anniversary and made reservations at Amani’s. I contacted Amani’s and wanted to make their dinner a little more special by secretly paying for it as a surprise for them. I was very impressed by how fast the owner replied to my email and it didn’t stop there. The owner, Jeanine, couldn’t have been sweeter or more helpful! She coordinated with the staff and wrote a lovely card from my husband and I to give to my son and daughter-in-law at the end of their meal along with a special dessert! My son immediately called and said how delicious the dinner and drinks were, how friendly the staff was and how terrific the atmosphere and seating was. They couldn’t have been happier or more surprised. I don’t live in the area, so Jeanine and staff took my place and made their anniversary dinner a night to remember. It is so wonderful and rare to find a business owner who truly cares about their customers’ satisfaction and happiness and not just making a sale. Jeanine & staff went over and above and for that I’m so grateful! If you can’t tell from this review, I HIGHLY recommend Amani’s for a nice night out or for a special occasion. The next time I’m in the area, a dinner and drinks at Amani’s will definitely be on our to-do list!
Amani’s, without a doubt, is the best restaurant in Chester county. We have probably been there 12-15 times at this point, and not only is the food the highest quality, but the execution of every aspect of the meal is exceptional. I can still remember the first time my wife and I came when we were poor college graduate students, and almost 8 years later we still always return. The staff is excellent, the new drinks are incredible, and it’s a great intimate atmosphere. We will always love coming here, so do not hesitate!
Arguably the best food in Downingtown. The quality of the food is outrageous! The care that the chefs put into your meal is astounding. The seasonal menu changes are always jaw-dropping and delicious. Everything always comes cooked perfectly. Even their bar makes insane cocktails. Everything this place does is 5 star. I would eat there every night if I could.
This is exactly the type of restaurant I've been wanting in my life! The portions for dinner are great and I love how fresh everything is. I'm still drooling over the asparagus from their bruschetta and the blurred lines cocktail. The service was great and everyone was very nice! We will be back.
So nice to get back to this place! We actually had lunch at Amani's North. The food was outstanding. Those baked oysters are to die for. The fig and goat cheese egg rolls OMG. Gnocchi light and airy and the Dagwood sandwich elevated. Oh, the Bourbon drinks were outstanding, especially the Burnt. Can't wait for the next time.
Excellent option for dining in main line. We chose the ceviche as the appetizer and it was great. For the entree we chose the special that was a file mignon over a crab brioche and mushroom sauce that was very tasty and cooked to the perfection. Portions were the perfect size and the atmosphere was really nice. I’ll definitely come back to check the cocktail bar.
Went with 3 others for my friend's birthday dinner. Everything was fantastic as usual! Key lime pie martini was delicious. Lobster bisque was unexpectedly spicy but still wonderful. Bruschetta, grilled oysters, escargot appetizers all beautifully presented and prepared. Duck breast entree is the best around! Scallops au gratin special was divine! Always delicious, never a bad meal here!
What a great place. The knowledgeable staff provided perfect service, duck cooked perfect (crispy skin was awesome), mushroom risotto was delicious, calamari was the best we have ever had. It's a little pricy but high quality and cooked to perfection. We will definitely be back.
*Indoor dining review* I am thoroughly surprised and impressed with this restaurant. Driven by many times and looking from the outside, I didn't think there was such a good restaurant tucked away. Restaurant: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Food/Drinks: 4.5/5 Parking: Street Parking ~Restaurant~ The restaurant has 2 floors, we sat upstairs. Depends on where you sit, it can feel a bit cramped and you will likely bump into people sitting near you. Apart from that, everything was good. Restaurant itself is also very clean and modernistic. ~Service~ All of the staff we had interaction with (Hostess, waiter, food/drinks runner, Manager) were kind, helpful and sociable. ~Drinks & Food~ Even though it is BYOB, their drink menu is impressive. All were good, no complains. -What we ordered for Drinks- Cranberry Special Cucumber Dill Gin Lavender Gin Key Lime Martini (Dessert drink) For food, I enjoyed what ordered. But the guests with me had only minor complains. -What we ordered for food- Crab Fries (Very Good) Chicken Cheesesteak (Good, but a bit small) Seafood Paella (Very good) Grilled Branzino (Delicious) Gulf Shrimp Fra Diavolo (Good) Banana Pudding for Dessert was also tasty. In conclusion, if you're in the area and have not tried this restaurant yet, it is a must.
First visit to this nice little place in the center of Downingtown. It was enjoyable. The staff was friendly. The food was fresh and tasty. We had the Tuna Poke Bowl, the Barbecue Pit Bowl and the Goat Cheese Gnudi appetizer. Everything was great! I will visit again.
While the food was good and I love a local business, unfortunately the venue and atmosphere were very disappointing. The tables were cramped, awkwardly placed, and blocked off, and the noise level got uncomfortable with one table in particular getting very loud. I, and others at other tables, were all very uncomfortable with this and sharing knowing looks at each other. Normally I am more than comfortable to wait the time it takes for fine food to be made. However these circumstances made the wait grating. We were excited to try dessert, but instead opted to leave as soon as we could after dealing with the conditions for over an hour already and developing headaches. An unfortunate disappointment to an otherwise impressive meal
I've eaten at Amani's 3 times. 2/3 times were an excellent experience with delicious food in large portions, friendly and attentive service and timeliness in food delivery. The third visit our food came out ice cold. As if it had been sitting for a long time. It's a bit cramped and always busy. All in all, I'd say it's definitely worth a try, but try to miss peak meal times.
We wanted to eat somewhere special for Valentine’s Day and ordered takeout two days later. Amani’s does not disappoint. Everything we got was so good and of the utmost quality. The salads were excellent, my beet and goat cheese salad and my husband’s field greens. Our entrees were also very good -coq au vin and the salmon. Lastly I ordered the beet and Brussel sprout flatbread for the next day. The flavors were so complex- I loved the taste in my mouth, so delicious. I don’t think I’ve ever seen that combination on a flat bread pizza before- very unique and enjoyable. Will be back!
A really enjoyable meal with good food, but nothing that stood out as a must-have-again favorite. I'd recommend the scallop and shrimp scampi pasta and the cocktail menu (I had the yippee kay ye melon farmer) and look forward to trying other things on the menu. Both steak and pork belly were a bit overcooked. Still enjoyable, but for the price I'd hold them to a high standard. Both the hostess and waitress were kind, courteous, and had great recommendations for us!
I don't go to high end restaurants so this was a bit of a splurge. About half of our table of 11 was just not impressed with the food. I enjoyed my steak and sides and would have rated it about a 7 out of 10. Have had better at home or lancaster Longhorns My wife really enjoyed her salmon dish - probably and 8.5 or 9. My grandma enjoyed her fish ( I forget what the dish was called) I had and old fashioned cocktail. That was excellent, well presented and reasonably priced. Thyme sangria was just not good. Flank steak was not impressive. (It's not easy to make that cut impressive) The servers were excellent Though our table was tight and cramped, the atmosphere was still very nice. Overall I would go again, but may stick with the fish offerings as that seemed to be best received overall in our party. I would also try their other cocktails.
We had our anniversary dinner here on August 31st and all in all it was very good. Some of the dishes are outstanding. My wife had a pan seared scallop dish which was perfect. I had the tenderloin and it was a bit over cooked for being medium rare and the meat was a bit dry and had very little juice in it. Not sure why, but the taste of the meat was outstanding.
Amani's has an amazing menu. Always top quality and prepared really well. My pork belly app was so good I could order several for my entire meal. Only reason I didn't rate 5 is because my fish had bones, which isn't a huge deal, but the chocolate cake dessert was just bad. It looked and tasted old. Everything else was great.
I'm giving them four star review because I've been there before, and they are capable of five stars. My experience is likely due to bad specials. However, this really should be a 3.5 star at best. Service and ambiance - Excellent First courses - Scallop special (Bland and charred, not good). Spring rolls (Good flavor, crispy). Entree - Tuna special (Flavorless, not good at all). Dessert - Candied bacon, corn bread, bread pudding with bourbon maple sauce (Top 10 best dessert of my life). The regular entrees and appetizers are all very good. I took a gamble with a couple specials, and they were not good. I'll be back.
Amani’s restaurant's ability to sell a menu is amazing. Their very ambitious seasonal options are rarely ever fully executed. There is always something off with all the dishes. The only thing consistent about the food is that it’s not good enough for what it costs. I hate to bring the potential of the restaurant down, because I really wanted to love it! Especially because they apparently have Chester county’s number 1 chef cooking in the kitchen. I mean how can we not hold you to a higher standard? THANK GOD they are BYOB, so that you can wash the terrible memory of the food away with a good bottle of wine. The best part of service was being able to see the chefs cooking while you wait. Hopefully things improve soon. Downingtown needs this kind of potential.
Took my parents here to celebrate a late Father’s Day. We dined upstairs. Food is good but portions are so small even when they’re labeled “Entrees”. The entrees are priced around $14-$19 and are more like appetizer portions. We were still hungry afterward so we got dessert. We got a cookie skillet (not pictured) for dessert and it was very undercooked and mushy. We also got a brownie skillet which contained a very dry brownie. Our party of 4 was still hungry after our dining experience….
Good food, service was only okay. Will go back for their summer menu... Hoping they treat allergies more responsibly next time.
I took my wife here for a last minute birthday dinner. For appetizer we got the Caribbean Chowder and Braised pork belly. We enjoyed the unique flavor of each dishes. I ordered the Lobster Shepherd's Pie and my wife got the Crab Cakes. We were not impressed with the dishes. The lobster and potatoes in my dish were on the dry side. It did not taste like a $30+ entree. The crab cakes lack meaty crab flavor. The waitress was nice and thoughtful with taking our orders. They did not have a kids menu but she was accommodating and my girls got burgers and fries which were not on the menu. I wished I could rave about this but they were undercooked. Somehow medium became medium rare burgers. If only the entree could be as good as the appetizers especially for the price paid.
Disclaimer: my rating has nothing to do with the quality of their food - it's actually quite good, especially for small town. My 2 star rating is because, on two separate occasions, my order has been literally turned away by this restaurant. I called most recently on Mother's Day 2021 and, after being put on hold, I asked "Can I place an order for pick up at 5pm?" Now this was at 1pm, which any normal person would think would be ample time for them to prepare the food. I was told definitely "we are not taking any take out or in-house orders for the foreseeable future. We will get back to you." First of all, how are you going to get back to me? Secondly, you're turning away what would have been over $200 in food orders! What kind of a restaurant is "too backed up" to even take orders for 4 hours in the future? I'm not sure who the GM is or who was on call this Mother's Day but they need a quick refresher in Business 101. I realize this is coming off as very Karen-like but our entire family was very perturbed, because truthfully Downingtown doesn't have that many dining options. We're not going to not ever go back but we'll be sure to do so only for the early bird special on Wednesday afternoons to spare them the pressure of running a successful restaurant.
I was super excited to try this place. Unfortunately we were disappointed. My salad was delicious but the branzino dinner was undercooked. My drink was awful and not even drinkable. The restaurant is extremely loud and it’s very difficult to hear the person sitting next to you. We had a 6pm reservation and we were rushed out by 8. We felt rushed during the entire dinner. We did go upstairs after being rushed out and we did enjoy rhe atmosphere upstairs.
First the positives. Even for take out, the idea and concept of local food. Love the idea. The service was great and the people providing the service were fantastic. Next, the execution. The food, while good, just did not come close to meeting expectations. My wife had the scampi and it did not taste anything like a Scampi. It was definitely missing a few flavors. We also had the salmon. Again, the flavors were lacking. The veal was very good, but the potatoes were quite bland. The same was true for the burger. Very glad we tried it and happy to support local businesses and suggest people try it for themselves, but we will not be making a follow up visit.
I’ve been wanting to try the restaurant for a while. Had always heard great reviews and was really looking forward to it for our anniversary dinner. Boy was I disappointed. So many overwhelming sauces and fillers and very little complimentary flavors. Our soups and all appetizer's came out at the same time. Each plate had at least 3 different overpowering competing flavors and unnecessary fillers, like thick soggy bread drenched in sauces. My husbands duck was glistening and raw. The risotto with my halibut was undercooked and hard with again more overpowering and competing sauces. Each plate seemed like it was trying way too hard. I could barely even taste the goodness of the escargot and grilled octopus that we ordered, because once again all that I could taste was the overwhelming sauces they were served with. Lastly even my drink was terrible. I ordered a lemonchello martini. It was served with a spicy rim that again conflicted with the flavor of the drink. The lemonchello was not smooth or delicious by any means either. This was the first time I ever had to return a drink. Our server was wonderful however, she was accommodating with the undercooked duck and the returned drink. She was attentive and inviting.
I used to LOVE this place. Always had good meals here - but this experience was just awful. While I always expect a lower quality dish when I through Door Dash due to travel and handling... I was supremely disappointed tonight. This order legitimately took Amani's BYOB off my "go-to" restaurant list. I ordered fries with my chicken sandwich, which they decided to not provide because "it was a mistake that they are included with online order"... what?? The chicken sandwich was supposed to come with Nashville hot sauce and Gorgonzola cream - both were non-existent... Lastly, the $8.00 pretzel they gave me was somehow a worse clone of the $0.10 Frozen Super Pretzel coupled with watery mustard (how??). You lost a 8+ year customer tonight. Well done.
My wife and I tried Amani's for the first time last night, unfortunately that was a big mistake. Salads were really good until my wife found a hair (not hers), we mentioned it to our waitress so they knew but laughed it off and moved on to entrees. My salmon was burnt to a crisp and had no flavor. My wife ordered a medium well steak, our waitress walked up looked at it and said, "wow, that's not medium well, that's really well done" she was right it was tough, dry and overcooked. After taking the dish back to the kitchen she returned with a menu and said, "our Chef said it's not over cooked, when our owner leaves and he just did, I don't know what happens to the kitchen." Our waitress tried to be nice but kept making off putting comments about the experience we were having. The replacement steak was good, dessert was also good. The dessert was taken off the bill but everything else was left on our bill, including a salad that had a hair in it. We were excited about our night out, great reviews at Amani's but our experience was pretty terrible.
