We were staying in the cottages behind the pub and what a great local it was. It had a small but good quality selection of drinks and a very good food menu. It's not quite traditional pub grub, but has some pleasant twists to the meals. The food and drink was enjoyed by all in our party and we had a very pleasant visit.
This is a review specifically of the food and pub and not the rooms. We visited the Ebrington Arms for Sunday Lunch based on the recommendation of some family members and it might just be the best Sunday Lunch I’ve ever had. We ordered the pork belly and beef and both were cooked to absolute perfection, served with roast potatoes and parsnip, Yorkshire pudding, and steamed greens, with lashings of delicious gravy. Stuffing and cauliflower cheese on the side, I could not find fault with any of it. Portions are just right as well, not meagre but also not falling off your plate. We all ordered the sticky toffee pudding for desert which comes with toffee sauce and clotted cream which is a revelation, I don’t think I can go back to custard… Very nice ales on draft and lovely staff to top it all off, I’d consider making the 5 hour round trip on a regular basis for this. 10/10, no notes!
Fantastic Pub nestled in middle of North Cotswolds! Second time visiting and can say the team are welcoming. Hats off to Benjamin who was our server who was polite, attentive and on point with assuring we were well feed and looked after! Will defo return in the new year!
Lovely cosy pub. Open fires, good atmosphere. Excellent food, excellent service. Everything to like. Will be returning and definitely recommend.
My family and I visited The Ebrington Arms for my husband’s 60th birthday. I’ve dreamed of spending an evening here for a few years and we all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. The service was excellent and all staff were friendly and helpful. The quality of each meal was really good; extremely tasty, even down to the smaller details like the homemade Tartare sauce. We had a range of meals: Gammon, delicately , lightly battered Haddock, Chicken Supreme, and of course, differing delicious, well presented desserts and a cheese platter. The village setting is beautiful, especially the local thatched cottages and well kept Green. We took our dog, who was welcomed. He nestled happily under our table, at our feet. All in all a really lovely evening. Thank you!
This is a wonderful pub. A warm welcome and a spacious bedroom, with a view of the church and lovely decor. It was very clean and we appreciated having things like ground coffee in the room. The evening meal we had was sensational, with great service. I'd never had monkfish scampi before but I'm glad I tried it! Breakfast was equally superb and the dining room is full of character. I hope we can come back one day.
We visited for dinner on a special birthday . The meal was excellent, we had a long wait as it was a weekend and busy, also we were a big group. It was worth the wait.
Our family enjoyed an excellent Saturday lunch at the Ebrington Arms. There were 14 of us! We had pre-ordered our food, everything arrived promptly and was correct. The staff were really friendly. The whole menu was an interesting mixture of traditional and not so traditional pub food. I thought the vegetarian options were interesting and the celeriac was very tasty. The burgers looked great. Everyone enjoyed lunch here.
We went for a sunday dinner here today and the food was amazing. The vegetarian leek and mushroom bake was phenomenal and the meat eaters on the table said it had the perfect seasoning and was beautifully tender. The restaurant has a lovely atmosphere of an authentic village pub and the puddings were amazing as well! Will definitely be returning
Really enjoyable stay. Lovely room, fantastic food and great service. Would definitely come again.
Amazing food as always at this lovely pub. We had some snacks to share first (my favourite was the pheasant and chestnut croquettes, could have eaten a tub of those!). I had the duck for the main event which was soooo delicious! The beef also looked amazing which my father-in-law had. My husband had the fish with chorizo and bean cassoulet but it wasn't as good as our mains unfortunately. More garlic and chorizo needed I think and something like a pesto or chive oil to zest it up. The puddings were amazing and I had the white chocolate and cranberry bread and butter pudding. Maybe the best one I've ever eaten! Buttery smooth and lots of flavour from the fruits. The blueberry cheesecake was also fabulous 👌. Thank you for an amazing meal and we'll be back again soon!
A lovely overnight stay in Room 4. We wanted a last-minute one night break in a Cotswold location, in a cosy double room with a big bath, as well as good pub food. Ticked all the boxes. Good gluten free food options in the restaurant. Both dinner and breakfast were excellent - only one small complaint; no gluten free bread, but our stay was a late booking. The manager was very helpful and friendly. Everything was great, we will stay here again :)
My partner and I (a couple in our mid-50s) stayed at The Ebrington Arms for three nights and it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish. The building itself is stunning and we were greeted with such a warm, genuine welcome that we instantly felt at home. Our room had the most beautiful view and was cosy, spotless and clearly cared for to the highest standard. The food was exceptional. Our first night in the bar by the fire was such a lovely atmosphere and the meal was delicious. The highlight of the trip was the Chateaubriand — absolutely incredible and perfectly cooked, paired with a lovely house red. Breakfast each morning was outstanding and the whole team made us feel like part of the family. The locals were also incredibly friendly and welcoming. If you’re thinking about booking here, don’t hesitate — just do it. A stunning setting, wonderful people and a truly memorable stay. 10/10 from us.
We stayed 1 night, and we had dinner and breakfast. It was simply an authentic and very charming experience. The food is unexpectedly delicious. We had a beautiful meal, from starter to dessert, with quality ingredients and a great chef 👨🏻🍳. Breakfast was simply gorgeous. The best bread in Britain to date. The room was super charming. Rustic of course. The acoustics are those of an old house, but this is part of the experience. We recommend!
We didn't stay at the Ebrington Arms but we did eat there. It was absolutely without a doubt, the best meal we had on our month trip through France and England. Every course was absolutely delicious there was nothing we could fault. The service was very attentive but not obtrusive and of course you're eating an absolutely delightful and historic little pub in a small village in the Cotswolds. What more could you ask for? If we're ever back that way we will definitely be eating there again, we might even stay as it does look delightful.
Absolutely adored this place. Gorgeous village and not on the tourist trail, so I appreciated the quiet. My room was beautiful and the bathroom absolutely stunning. My only note was that the lighting was very dim (buy a new bulb or two and change those light shades!) and the room felt a tiny bit chilly when the shades were open. The bathroom, however, stayed toasty the whole time. Oh, and the smell of wood smoke was strong throughout but I guess this is a vibe! Also ate here and the food and drink was fantastic. Can’t wait to bring friends and family back with me next time.
A delightful country pub. We popped in for a drink and a quick lunch. The food was amazing and the service was polite and professional. Will definitely return and would love to stay in one of the rooms and take in an evening meal too.
Went for dinner, which was superb. Everyone shared their starters and mains as we all had food envy from each others orders! Service was attentive and relaxed. Loved it so much can't wait to go back!
Great Sunday lunch. A bit mean with the meat but the roast potatoes were delicious.
A really nice place to spend you Sunday in a quaint country pub, with a fabulous Sunday roast.
I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Ebrington Arms, a charming pub nestled within the picturesque village of Ebrington in the Cotswolds. From the moment I approached the quaint, stone exterior, I knew I was in for a treat. The staff at The Ebrington Arms were friendly and attentive without being overly intrusive. Our server took the time to explain the menu’s highlights and made excellent recommendations. It’s always a plus when the waitstaff seem genuinely enthusiastic about the food they’re serving! For my main course, I opted for the classic fish and chips, which was beautifully battered and served with fluffy chips and a refreshing tartar sauce. It was a generous portion, leaving me pleasantly stuffed by the end. And let’s not forget about dessert! I couldn’t resist the chocolate delice, which was divine and rich thick chocolate when I dug in. Simply heavenly!
Lunch was, as usual, very good here. We arrived soon after 12:00 on a fine summer Saturday, expecting it to be already busy, but luckily it was not. So the service was more attentive than usual and the atmosphere more relaxing. They were setup for an event later that day, so they had a hog roast and pizza van for extra capacity and choice. We were country walking and expecting to have our main meal of the day in the beer garden with our dog. However, an enthusiastic chef encouraged us to try a pizza, which is lighter and so a better idea if you are walking miles across country. We were the first customers for pizza, so it was quick, but mine was a little blackened in places, I assume from the oven having not quite the right temperature, because my wife's pizza was fine. This detracted a little from the flavour for me, but not too much because I had a very spicy topping which dominated the taste anyway. Seems not to be a good idea to be first up for pizza. Anyway, it was another pleasant visit to this popular place and I am sure we will be back.
We had a lovely meal and a great stay in a beautiful room. Thank you for the great welcome 😊
We recently had dinner at the Ebrington Arms and the food was fantastic, beautifully cooked. The staff were warm, welcoming and attentive. I would certainly recommend!
Very good gluten free food. Would recommend Ben was a lovely host
Fantastic Sunday Lunch. Staff are very friendly and attentive, food could not be faulted, one of the best Sunday Lunches we have had. Thoroughly recommended!
Brilliant Sunday Roast, everything was well seasoned and well cooked. Highly recommended.
We ate in the restaurant for Sunday lunch. The food was really excellent but the service was extremely slow. We ordered the sourdough snack to have whilst our food was being cooked. It was delicious but our mains took nearly an hour to come. There was a fair wait too for desserts and to pay we ended going to the bar as our bill never seemed to make it to our table after we asked for it. Overall it was lovely food and nice atmosphere but the waiting got a bit much.
Lovely pub and location with a very good Sunday Roast- beef and roast potatoes were excellent- and great Sticky Toffee Pudding. Beautiful interior and solid menu options. Service was polite- but sadly very slow, the only downside. Not a problem if you aren't in a rush but ordering desserts and getting the bill did become a problem. Recommended with this in mind.
We stayed here for a couple of nights, arrived in the evening and it was busy the staff member behind the bar was not very welcoming and told us to wait in the door to speak to somebody else. The room was lovely and the bed very comfortable. Lovely fresh tea and coffee. The only thing i would say, the cups and Cafetiere were not replaced with clean ones and no milk , so we had to go down and ask. The breakfast and Sunday lunch were excellent and all the the staff very friendly.
Nice old English pub accommodation above the tap room so could potentially be noisy on a busy night. Creaky floors and narrow staircase as all these old places do adds to the vibe. Nice view out the vine covered window. Not in a main Cotswolds town but a good jump off point for touring the area. Plenty of parking if you use the pub car park before you reach the pub.
Delicious food, lovely pub - the only thing a bit lacking is the beer selection, but a nice, compact wine list fills that gap
We had lunch on Boxing Day. The quality of food and atmosphere was very good.
Had a very lovely dinner here. Some exceptional food. Don't miss the marmite souffle!!!
The food was good, worth the wait. Our waiter and waitress were lovely and I wanted to ensure the service charge went to them. Sadly the barman was unbelievably rude, was dismissive of my enquiry into non alcoholic drinks and then said to the men stood next to me at the bar “it was so much better yesterday when it was just men drinking in here and not women asking for stupid drinks”. The manager didn’t seem that bothered, and apologised after taking my money.
Had a Mothers Day roast today and the service and meal were one star. I waited 20 minutes for a table pre-booked, had to get up to request menus, and had to again find someone to take our order. The food arrived within 20 minutes and the chips and squid were very good, but the roast was terrible. The beef was tough and chewy, and pork distinctly average and there was a lack of taste notes by all guests. It simply was not good enough. Now, I was planning on a one star review but, when telling the waiter about the meal they instantly gave 25% off. I was not asking for that, and the money was not important, but the gesture was very much appreciated. Sometimes the kitchen can be hectic, and sometimes you can just have a bad end of meat, but reacting in a palatine way made me think that I will try them one more time.
Sadly a bit underwhelming and disappointing. I can see how this place could be lovely as the venue is spectacular but we had a catalog of errors start to finish. Starting with a booked table being 15mins late. Then ignored at the bar even though noone else was waiting, apparently loading the dishwasher is more important than the customer a meter in front of you. The service throughout leaves a lot to be desired. Got given the wrong menu to begin with which we were allowed to order from and 15mins later retracted it, without correcting on the ordering system. There's a lot of very young staff (80%) who avoid the tables as they're not sure how to help. So you don't get served, plates cleared and wrong orders taken which end up on the bill. The haddock & chips was perfectly crisp but remarkably tasteless. The mushroom wellington was decent. Dessert was tasteless and expensive, even a ginger ice cream tasted like a cheap vanilla with the odd tiny bit of ginger in. Worth a visit in case we had a bad day but they need to pull their socks up! I would like to go back but will be reluctant....
This was one of our favourite pubs so I was very disappointed with the overall service we had yesterday. The sharing starter was very good and the waiter told us he would bring plates for us which he didn’t. We ordered a broad bean salad which arrived without broad beans. The waiter, who was very slow and appeared to be on his first day, told us it was a brand new chef who had forgotten to put them on. In the past we have had excellent food and service. The staff in the past were enthusiastic but we didn’t get that vibe at all yesterday from the different staff who served us. Often when mistakes occur restaurants do try to rectify them with a free coffee or something. Nothing was offered here. In some restaurants you feel that the staff care about what they have to offer. In the past we have had that feeling but the passion at The Ebrington Arms just felt as though it is no longer there.
I recently stayed at this hotel on Friday 3rd and, unfortunately, the experience was disappointing in terms of hospitality. The general attitude lacked professionalism and consideration, which is regrettable when you choose an establishment that is supposed to offer a minimum of comfort and friendliness. When I asked for breakfast to be reheated, the server sighed. (A little tip: don't show your dissatisfaction in front of customers.) The location of the hotel itself is fine, with nice villages around but the unfriendliness of the staff clearly impacted my experience. I would not recommend this hotel for this reason. Thank you for your understanding.
Booked a meal there, was very disappointed by the choice of meals, what we had was very nice though but would have preferred a better selection , I won't go back there
Unfortunately our visit was overshadowed by a few issues. We had a table booked for five, but when we arrived it wasn’t ready and we ended up waiting around 30 minutes to be seated. While waiting, my wife went to order drinks and asked for a non-alcoholic option (she’s pregnant). Within earshot of her, the barman then joked to friends that the previous day had been better because there weren’t “women ordering stupid drinks.” Hearing that immediately after she’d ordered was pretty disappointing and felt quite unprofessional. Had I been there at the time, we likely wouldn’t have stayed. It was a shame, because the two waiters were clearly doing their best. They even seemed to be helping with washing dishes, which suggests the place may be short staffed — something that did seem to impact service and waiting times. The food itself was actually very nice, although by the time it arrived we were close to nibbling the table to curb the hunger! 😂 Sadly, despite the good food, the comment from the barman has put us off returning.
Small portion size for the price. I spent £47 for a non-alcoholic cocktail and the lamb main. Others who had the burger said it was average and the meat was dry. The pub has a lovely atmosphere and service was good.
Went here for dinner and was such a disappointment. The service was awful - incredibly slow for food to arrive, plates not cleared for ages after we had finished starters, and just a general vibe of seeming not interested to serve tables - while the food was poor, the padron peppers were unseasoned and oily, the butter with the bread was so melted I wondered if it had been microwaved? One of the only two veggie main options had already run out by 8pm while the fish and chips was awful - could barely taste the fish amid the batter. No one asked if we wanted any more drinks after the first order. I could go on. Just all round poor.
A really lovely country pub in a great location with a lovely beer garden, unfortunately let down by the service. We asked for a table for dinner and were told the bar was the only place they could squeeze us in. Given the restaurant was completely empty, it was disappointing. We then went to the bar to order and we were met with quite a rude bar man. We ended up booking another pub 10 minutes away for dinner which was excellent.
It was okay food but they had sold out of lots of the popular foods which left everyone disappointed.
We booked a table for Sunday lunch and specifically requested a table suitable for both a baby in a pram and a dog. On arrival, it was immediately clear that our notes hadn’t been read at all. Thankfully, there happened to be a table in the bar area that we could squeeze into, otherwise we would have been completely stuck. We ordered drinks, skipped starters apart from some padron peppers, and then ordered roast dinners. Over 45 minutes later, there was still no sign of our food. To make matters worse, a table that arrived around 30 minutes after us was served their roasts while we were still waiting. This was particularly frustrating as our baby was asleep and due to wake shortly, meaning I lost my only opportunity to eat. When we eventually spoke to the manager to explain the situation and asked for the bill as we were leaving, there was no apology whatsoever, not even a basic acknowledgment of the poor service. We were never checked on after our initial drinks, never offered another round, and no water was offered for our dog. Overall, the service was inattentive, disorganised, and frankly unacceptable, especially for a venue that markets itself as family and dog friendly. We would never return and would not recommend it to anyone.
Very rude manager. It was within the manager’s discretion to allow us to change the dates for next weekend (you had availability) because my child was sick, but you refused, showing no understanding or compassion.
had a Sunday roast here today, I have to say the food isn’t great here. Well over priced. Food took over 1hr 20min to arrive while it was quiet. And the yourkie was burnt and really hard to eat. the roast potato’s was very crispy. Roast pork was missing apple sauce and the roast beef was missing radish sauce. Found staff rude and unhelpful especially the new manager.
We had a reservation at the Ebrington Arms in Chipping Campden and arrived at 7:15pm. There were four of us — myself and my family. After waiting in line at the bar to order drinks and get seated, we sat down and started looking through the menu. We were offered still or sparkling water and asked for still — it never arrived. We ordered nearly all of the “snack” starters to share. They arrived after about 10–15 minutes and were fine. As we were finishing those, my mum wasn’t feeling well and didn’t want her main anymore. We politely asked the waiter if it was possible to cancel her fish dish — but made it clear that if it had already been started, no problem, we’d still take it. He didn’t check with the kitchen and just told us, “It’s already started.” We accepted that, even though it felt a bit dismissive. But then… nothing. We waited 20 minutes. Then 40. Still no mains — including the one that was supposedly already in progress. At that point, we spoke to a different server and explained that our issue wasn’t the wait — it was that we’d been told the kitchen had already started on food that clearly hadn’t even been close to ready. He argued with us, insisting things were in the oven. We pointed out that if that were true, it would be burned by now. He reluctantly said he’d check — and then disappeared without an update. Another 20 minutes passed, still no word. One of us eventually went up to the bar to pay for what we’d had and leave — only then did the food suddenly come out. We declined it. We had waited too long and were no longer interested in eating. The staff offered the mains for free, but that wasn’t the point — we didn’t raise concerns to get free food. We just wanted honesty, basic communication, and a bit of respect. Sadly, this place did not deliver on any of that. We left disappointed and won’t be returning.
The host displayed a troubling level of impoliteness and rudeness. Not only was he unaware of his own menu, but he also interacted aggressively with customers who had come to try the dishes based on the online menu, which differed significantly from what was offered on-site, including the prices. This lack of professionalism is unacceptable.
