My wife and I had breakfast at Vaga during our stay at the hotel, and the entire experience was outstanding. Our server, Patrick, was absolutely phenomenal. He took the time to walk us through the menu, gave honest recommendations about what was good, and made us feel genuinely taken care of. His service elevated the whole experience. The restaurant itself is beautiful—very clean, well-kept, and stylish. The food was equally impressive. We ordered the avocado toast, pancakes, a carne asada omelet, and a breakfast sandwich. Everything came out fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. I had a freshly squeezed apple juice, and my wife enjoyed a delicious latte. Overall, Vaga delivered an amazing breakfast with top-tier service. Highly recommend dining here, and if you go, definitely ask for Patrick!

From beginning to end the food was delicious. The atmosphere was quite romantic whether on the patio or in the restaurant. Christian was our server and was very attentive but not so attentive you had to stop mid sentence to answer and you could actually enjoy a conversation. The food was prepared wonderfully and the timing of courses was well done, something you don’t see very often. I would recommend this to anyone wanting to taste some good food.

Let's be honest, if you're coming here, you're coming here for the ambiance. The patio bar seating was phenomenal. Comfortable seats with fireplaces or heat lamps nearby. It was wonderful being able to hear the rolling waves from the beach while enjoying a delightful cocktail.

Five stars for dinner all around. They had great live music in the bar area, fantastic service, and the food was amazing. The Black Gold cocktail is one of their best! The pastured half chicken was so juicy and no bones in it so it was easy to eat. The Koji hanger steak has an Asian fusion deliciousness you have to try and the peppers with it aren’t really spicy at all. Christian was a fantastic server and we really loved our experience all around. Make sure to mention if you have food allergies just in case, the breakfast menu there wasn’t properly labeled for a GF item so always ask, they’re happy to make adjustments or recommendations.

1000000/10. This was recommended to me yesterday by some locals at the hotel. I’m staying at down the road and I’m super glad that I came. I had Noé as my bartender and he made me an incredible blackberry margarita. I told him I liked his pins and asked him where they came from, and he found him in the back and gave it to me. I could seriously cry. I ordered that salmon tostada and it was the perfect small bite. Noah was also wonderful, the locals eating here gave me great ideas for how to spend my night. I’m sure the hotel is amazing because the property itself is gorgeous.

Celebrated my husband's 70th birthday. Found this on place on TikTok. 2 1/2 hours of complete joy. From the hostess to the most amazing server, Adon...spectacular experience. The food, the view, the service, the ambiance, all amazing. Thank you ♡

I took my wife here for a Valentine's date, and it exceeded my expectations in every way. The view over the ocean was stunning, and they had heaters and the game on, which were huge pluses. The design was very modern, featuring an exposed kitchen where you can see the chefs cooking your food right in front of you. The food itself was excellent. I had the short rib, while my wife enjoyed the crispy skin trout. Additionally, we ordered a side of sweet potatoes and shishito peppers, and everything was cooked to perfection. I have no complaints at all. We visited during a non-peak time, so it wasn't crowded. I can imagine that if it had been busy, the service times might have been a bit slower. I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to have dinner. The bar area is also lovely, and I had a great drink there.

Excellent brunch at Vaga! First off, incredible ocean views and a beautifully designed restaurant and hotel. The cocktails were great, we had the afternoon teaquilla and the howlin wolf. For entrees we had the lobster salad, crab cake Benedict, and the Vaga burger. The service was excellent, there are tables for all group sizes and I believe the patio is dog friendly. Recommend getting a reservation. There is valet at the hotel for $5. Highly recommend!

A wonderful place with delicious food and a pleasant atmosphere! I visited the restaurant twice – for dinner and breakfast – and was impressed both times. The dishes were fresh and perfectly prepared, and the service was excellent. The cozy ambiance makes it a perfect spot to enjoy your meal and relax. I will definitely come back!

Devine dining with a spectacular view. The waiters are on point and extremely attentive. The food was down right heavenly. I loved the gluten free choices and they were a delicious delight to be had both aesthetically pleasing and a treat to the taste buds.

Excellent!! Wonderful restaurant and bar experience. It's definitely one of the best views you can get in all of Encinitas or North County San Diego. The ocean views are the feont and center experience. The ambiance is top-notch. If you want to experience a fine dining for a special celebration or just watch the sunset and have a drink with friends, this is the place to be. The staff was attentive and helpful and the food is fantastic. If you are looking for a full meal, it can be had at the restaurant or at the bar top. Drinks and selections of appetizers are available in the bar area and on the patio. No matter what, the entire experience is amazing. The bar has limited seating, but the patio has plentiful seating for small and large parties. No matter where you sit, the service is great. There is an area that directly overlooks the ocean, which doubles as a fantastic backdrop for photos. Shishito Peppers, Hearth Fried Sweet Potatos, Eggplant Dip, and the Vaga Salad are all fantastic. The wine variety is excellent, and if you are not drinking, they have a fantastic selection of hand crafted mocktails and non alcoholic beverages.

Had a great meal on the outside deck. Split the Caesar, which was really fresh, and had the hanger steak for dinner - easily one of the most tender hanger steaks I've had. Drinks were great, and other than being a little slow when we need to pay, everything was great. It is one of the only restaurants that brings you a house dessert for a special event instead of letting you pick your own - we asked for a dessert menu two or three times and never saw one.

First visit! So pleased with the entire evening. The menu is creative and varied. The execution of each dish was excellent. The view is perfect and possibly the best of North County finer dining establishments. By far though, the wait staff were friendly and attentive. We felt the love 💕 thank you Team VAGA, see you sooner than later!

Hyatt Globalist. Had breakfast, lunch, and dinner here. Breakfast was delicious and the service was really great. Our server was Miele (Miley) and she was so friendly and pleasant. We had buckwheat pancakes, house sausage, and coffee. Lunch was lobster and shrimp salad (pictured) which was also excellent. Only suggestion would be to remove the tails from the shrimp before serving. Dinner was a bit more problematic; allergic to mushrooms and almost every dish had "vegetable" broth. However, the chicken entree didn't and that was amazing. Airline chicken with yucca mashed potatoes. The view if seated outside is gorgeous. Overall, I highly recommend this restaurant! Would visit again.

Every single bite is carefully crafted to explode in your mouth . The staff went above and beyond the call of duty and were so good about anticipating any needs you might have . I’m so sad we didn’t make it to dessert. Is it pricey ? A little. But worth it ! Treat yo self !

This was the best meal and restaurant experience we have had in years - definitely ranks among one of the best meals we've ever had. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive (with the exception of the bar staff that was overwhelmed- we tried to grab a drink before our reservation time since we arrived early). But that seemed to be related to the wedding event and was quickly swept away as a concern since the reception staff came and told us our table was ready and they could seat us early. The server and server assistant were both extremely attentive and there for every need. The food was beyond amazing. The duck taco appetizer was the star of the meal, followed by a close second was the corn risotto - even the bread rolls and butter were divine. They even provide nice weighted and soft blankets on the backs of the patio chairs to use once the sun goes down. We go the enjoy the sunset and an amazing meal and view from our table. Definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a great meal with a great view.

Great hidden gem! Located in Encinitas in the Alia Marea hotel (Hyatt), this restaurant has amazing views. Absolutely try to get in the lounge area if you can. Everything we had was great! Would 100% go back. Very relaxing, chill vibes. You won’t see a lot of locals, mostly tourists, which I don’t mind. They validate but only do valet and if you are a Hyatt member even better.

We really enjoyed dining at Vaga while staying at the Alila Marea. The atmosphere is fantastic, with stunning views that really elevate the experience. Whether you’re dining for dinner or brunch, the ambiance is perfect for a relaxing meal. For dinner, we tried a variety of dishes including the rolls, duck carnitas, and the Kogi hangar steak. I have a peanut allergy, but the restaurant was very accommodating and prepared the dishes without the peanut mole, which I really appreciated. Everything we had was delicious, and the drinks were great too—we enjoyed margaritas and Manhattans, both of which were not too sweet and perfectly crafted. The following day, we came back for brunch and had the Vaga burger. The bacon jam on the burger was especially amazing—definitely a highlight! We were pleasantly surprised to learn that their brunch menu is available everyday and not just on the weekends! The outdoor seating is wonderful, offering great views of the surroundings, and they make sure you're comfortable with plenty of heaters, fire pits, and even blankets to keep you warm. The staff was friendly, attentive, and really made us feel welcome throughout our visit. I was a bit worried after reading a few mixed reviews, but I’m so glad we decided to try it. Our experience was fantastic, and I would absolutely come back. Highly recommend!

Vaga Restaurant & Bar is located in Alila Marea Beach Resort in the charming coastal town in Encinitas. The restaurant is beautiful with both an open dining area and kitchen. They also have a great space for outside dining with a view. Before ordering, we started off with drinks. The Vaga Spritz was nice and refreshing. I also got the Hows Spicy Marg, which was also really interesting. I am not a fan of spicy drinks, but I enjoyed this one. For appetizers, we enjoyed the Parker House Rolls and Duck Carnitas. The rolls were incredibly buttery and soft, making them a delightful start to the meal. The Duck Carnitas were exceptionally tender, falling apart with ease, while the skin was perfectly crispy. This dish quickly became one of my favorites of the night. For the main courses, we had the Koji Hanger Steak and the Campo Grande Iberico Chops. The steak was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, served atop a rich peanut mole, with roasted shishito peppers on the side. The Campo Grande Iberico Chops, often referred to as the Wagyu of pork, were outstanding—so tender they practically melted in my mouth We also had two sides: Hearth Fired Sweet Potatoes and Grilled Sage Hill Ranch Carrots. Both sides complimented the main courses perfectly. We ended the night with dessert. The Mango Lassi and the Malted Chocolate Bomb. Both desserts were a treat. Not only were they tasty, but they were visually beautiful. Beyond the incredible meal and stunning views, the service at Vaga was exceptional. Our server was friendly and offered great insights into the dishes, answering our questions and recommending the perfect sides. We had an unforgettable experience, and I’ll be dreaming of that Malted Chocolate Bomb and Duck Carnitas for a long time to come.

VAGA is such a gem! Nestled right between S. Ponto and Grandview Beach, the views alone make it worth the trip. Service was a little understaffed the night we went, but honestly it didn’t take away from the experience. The liquor collection was impressive (whoever their buyer is—well done, I was genuinely proud!). We had a wonderful time enjoying good drinks, the ocean breeze, and that laid-back Encinitas energy. Definitely one of those spots that captures what makes North County special. I’ll be back for sunset tequila neat soon!!🌅🥃

What in the what?! OUTSTANDING! Hyatt Globalist here: This is the best any brand hotel restaurant I’ve dined in. They very obviously have an amazing head chef, talented chef team, and kitchen team as well. They even have a pastry chef. Where else can you get such a high end offering? Alila, you have captured our hearts forever. This is our second Alila property stay, and we now plan to visit them all. Call us loyalists. They’re so unique, and this particular hotel’s restaurant and food offerings are the best! We had brunch and dinner here. We also ordered room service out of this kitchen. We dined at The Pocket too, and got drinks and merchandise at the coffee shop outside. We had the Caesar salad, kid’s sliders, Vega burger, cookies plate, chocolate bomb, THE YAKISOBA - OMG!!!!! $20 for a beautifully balanced noodle dish that enlivens the senses. (You pay more for PF Chang’s, and you’ll sit on a sticky booth with rice on the floor!) The kimchi fried rice is excellent. We enjoyed the banana French toast, crispy thick cut bacon, market vegetarian risotto, scallops, carrots, it’s all outstanding. Omg how could I forget the rolls??? The 4 pull apart rolls with the special gourmet butter is amazing. The cocktails change seasonally so there’s always something new to try—it’s like your old favorite cocktail has a seasonal twist. I love how thoughtfully this menu is designed. If Hyatt lost these chefs they’d truly be missing out. It’s the love of food and drink that comes through and communicates from the chefs directly to our hearts. You run a top notch kitchen with an attentive staff. We have to shout out Christian who helped serve us too. I made no mention of the seating but even the seating and the views are perfect. We will definitely be back to stay and would really look forward to this experience again.

We needed to grab a quick breakfast before visiting the Safari Park and even though we needed to move fast, I wanted to find some place beautiful and memorable. VAGA was exactly what I looking for. Interesting menu, delicious food, luxurious atmosphere, great service, amazing beach views, and free valet parking. Perfect spot to grab breakfast even if you aren't staying at the resort. I can only imagine dinner is even better, especially at sunset.

This place definitely lives up to the hype the hotel is amazing!! This restaurant might have some of the best views and all the San Diego. Oh my God the quiche was to die for. All around service was really good and the drinks were delicious. If I am in the area I would most certainly go here again I ended up stopping here because I’m trying to eat my way through the eater top 38 best restaurants in San Diego.

Amazing! Celebrated my birthday with hubby and friends. Arrived early to enjoy the coastal views and check out the lively bar. The bar had more casual dressed crowd with indoor and outdoor spaces. We dined indoors in the lovely more intimate back section of the restaurant. Beautiful decor and tip top service. Highly recommend the Caesar salad - so good! Scallops and shisito peppers were delish. Shared an amazing chocolate desert. Chef Claudette Zepeda had curated a great menu! Staff was so nice, the General manager checked in on us and was so sweet. Cannot wait to return!

Food was delicious and was presented very elegantly. We happened to be outside the restaurant shortly before they opened while they were having a meeting with the entire staff. They focus on little details like walking a single spoon for dessert while placed on a plate. They packed our leftovers and brought a stand with a hook to hang the food. We received exceptional service from the following staff members: Jenna (VAGA manager), Jackson/Erin (waitstaff).

The food here was seriously amazing, the kind of food where even when you are full you don’t want to stop eating. Not to mention the service was top-notch, making the whole meal super enjoyable. PS: fries are not on the menu but as our server pointed out, they do not like to say no at VAGA ❤️

One of the best meals I’ve had in San Diego. Good and cocktails were perfection and our server Adan was warm and friendly. The views of the setting sun can’t be beat. I recommend calling them for reservations as they’re not on Resy or Opentable. This is the only drawback - if you’re a hot restaurant you need to be on a fu crío al reservation platform.

Amazing experience at Vaga! The atmosphere is beautiful, the service was great, and the food was delicious. Their cocktails are especially good. super fresh, well-balanced, and beautifully presented. Definitely a place I would come back to and recommend.

Top notch ingredients. Nice ambiance and service. Kids menu is a bonus! Parking is only valet ($10) Dined on a Sunday night Not very crowded, able to select a table. Food Roasted Beets with Labneh (great flavors, but due to the texture my guess is that these were precooked and then bagged. So any roasting that may have been done, did not show up.) Parker Rolls (good, almost as good as the original) NY steak (we ordered black&blue, waiter was supposed to confirm, he didn't, it came medium rare. Not how the ordered it) Scallop (perfection. Brussels crunched, pork belly melted in your mouth, pomegranate peeps added a great texture and flavor) Chocolate malt ball (wow, a mousse with a soft chocolate shell surrounded by chocolate crispies) Hows Spicy Marg (can't augment this one due to the prep to clarify the tequila... Which seems extraneous given that you make the drink murky the moment you add the spicy sangria) Kids chicken tenders (hand breaded there and the fries were perfectly crunchy and tender) We'd return. The bar area looked slick, and seems to offer other foods... I saw a burger going that way.

We went in between lunch and dinner which wasn’t the best idea. I need to go back for dinner to really appreciate the menu. Apart from that, food was amazing, the burger, chicken sandwich and the shrimps; desert was top…

I dined in my first night. Staff are polite and check in on you in good timing. Food comes out in good timing. When I dined in, I had the Alaskan halibut, bread rolls, and carrots. Rolls and halibut were great! Carrots were not what I was expecting. They were still very hard, I was expecting more softness than rather being as hard as they were. I also got an apple sprits alcohol type drink. That was good. Definitely didn't fit my meal, but it was good. I also got the toffee pudding cake thing, which was good as well. After that, I did in room dining. I DO NOT RECOMMEND. If you are staying at the hotel just go to the restaurant. (In room) I got a breakfast sandwich which was okay. It's not the worst, but not the best. It is very basic but large in size. They have good cappuccinos. For dinner, I ordered a large meal since I had skipped lunch being out and about. (In room) I got the duck carnitas, which was AMAZING. The NY steak asked for medium rare got.... idk what I got, but it wasn't medium rare, and I was chewing for an eternity. Did not finish that. Plus, it was cold. Duck was cold, too, but it still tasted great. The tortilla with the duck was good. Tortilla with the steak was a cement. Not a chip. Not warm and flimsy. A cemet. Stale. I also got the brocolini. Cold. Smelled terrible and tasted terrible. The carrots the night prior were not as expected but tasted fine. This... this broccoli smelled and started TERRIBLE. Took 1 bite and didn't take another. Now this is all my opinion. Maybe your experience and food will be more fresh and to your taste but it was not of mine. Being as upscale as it is, I expected more. Was very disappointing to waste so much food, but im not going to eat something that takes a day to chew or smells like ya rear end after a day in Arizona heat. Food for me is like a 3 or 2.7/5.. staff is very nice, though. Very nice. Cook needs help.

I really wanted to give this restaurant 5 stars, but as time passed and going through the different courses of our dinner, it went a bit downhill. First, on a positive note: this restaurant is really chic with a beautiful view of the ocean and friendly staff. Appetizers and drinks were good enough to keep them at 5 stars. However, main dishes started to make this questionable. Scallops were great but the rest were so-so. While the dishes were well plated and colorful, synergy between the ingredients was missing! The deal breaker was the dessert!!! Again, well presented but man it was bad. It’s really hard to get a dessert this bad. The chocolate desert was bland and the tres leches was BAD (how could you?!). This restaurant definitely has potential but they need to rethink their menu with food that deserves the great ambience. Maybe next time will limit our visit to just drinks and appetizers ;)

My dinner experience was great. Food was good especially the short rib taco. Great service. This morning, I was really disappointed! This is my second time staying at the Alila. My first breakfast experience was amazing. This time it was a huge letdown! Maybe it's because this time I'm a hyatt Globalist and my breakfast was comped?! I dunno! I made reservations through the front desk. I asked for outdoor seating. But when i got there outside was full. OK. The waiter was fine. He was super busy. It seems they were understaffed today. I can understand that. The service was slow and to get any refills took along time. The restaurant was not full. As a globalist you can only choose one of each item from their preset menu. I wanted an additional pastry item. He said he would split the check. I'm fine with being charged. When we got our food that extra pastry item didn't make it. At this point I didn't ask because I started eating the potatoes and they were odd. They were salty and chewy and some over done. How disappointing! So as much I'll as I was looking forward to brunch it didn't meet my expectations. At least he didn't charge me for the extra pastry.

An outstanding meal with a view! Sitting outside on the patio, you have an incredible view of the ocean in the background. Be aware that unfortunately, there is a lot of road noise from the cars and motorcycles driving on PCH. The bar was hopping that night as well which added its own bit of noise and energy. We were there to celebrate our anniversary and I want to commend the staff for their attention to detail and excellent service. They went out of their way to make us feel special and helped us celebrate. The food was fantastic. Everything we ordered had unique flavors with an exquisite presentation. The duck carnitas starter was INCREDIBLE! We could have had another order of that. The crispy skin ocean trout was to die for. A nice portion with sumptuous flavors.

My wife and I initially sat at the indoor bar, but it felt a bit cold, so we moved to the fireside couch in the lounge. Although it was nighttime and we couldn’t see much outside, the lounge had a cozy and pleasant atmosphere. We ordered a burger and tacos, but it took about 30–40 minutes to arrive, possibly due to an issue in the kitchen. The burger patty itself was flavorful, but it was disappointing that there weren’t enough vegetables in it. As for the Striped Sea Bass tacos, they had an overwhelming amount of unfamiliar spices, which didn’t suit my taste. While the ambiance was great, the food and service left room for improvement.

Came here with a really close friend. She has been here many times, but sometime a month prior during spring break she had the worst experience. Servers ignored them for over an hr (no exaggeration at least 1 hr and 15 mins.) granted she was with an old friend and was distracted. By the time they realized they hadn't put in any food they flagged down the nearest server who proceeded to just tell them everything they were wanting was "86ed". "No French toast, no berries, no eggs, no bacon, etc .." rather than break down what they still had, they played a childish game of "guess if we have it and then I'll tell you if it's in stock". Long story short they ended up ordering, the food came out 45 mins later, manager was somewhat helpful, but clearly as with EVERY restaurant in San Diego they're under staffed and over worked and probably don't get paid enough to deal with half the issues faced on a daily basis. The experience left her not wanting to go back. I had been an advocate against having this hotel built from the start, but money talks down here and it got built anyway. So rather than judge I decided to try and embrace it. I convinced her to give it another shot. Even though she told me of her experience I wanted to go anyways. The experience we had was far polar opposite from what she described to me from her last visit. Everyone greatest me with a smile and appeared to genuinely care about my thoughts and experience, at the time I was sitting by the fire pit waiting for a spot on the terrace. They were quick to find me and notify me there was a spot opening (it's first come first serve and they didn't have to say anything to me). It was completely cleared and cleaned in less than 5 mins and I had a nice morning cocktail in hand. Food was good, views were much better. Service, as expected for a venue of this caliber. I'd say for all its worth VEGA was solid choice. Sunday before 10am is your time to go, no wait and valet if very reasonable. Expectations were met and this experience turned her mind around and greatly impressed me.

Beautiful rooftop restaurant. We arrived at prime time on a Sunday for brunch and there was plenty of room and no wait. The views and ambiance are great with the outdoors seating. They are good with kids and have high chairs. The food is okay, not bad but nothing special. Great valet for $10.

We had breakfast here during our stay at the resort. The patio offers a lovely view, and the service was friendly. While the overall experience was pleasant, the food could use some improvement. We ordered the veggie omelette, but the vegetables were quite oily. On a positive note, the yogurt with granola was good. With a bit more attention to food quality, this place has the potential to be excellent.

Two stars but the good food elevated this to 3 stars. The food was pretty good but we were not very happy with the service overall. I have lived in San Diego for a while and even in the most upscale restaurants, there is a sense of laidbackness and approachability. Hell, even at Addison, which is a Michelin 3 star restaurant, the staff was much more grounded than the service personnel here. We had reservations but we got here a little early and headed to the bar when they told us that there was some time before we could be seated. The bar wasn't crazy busy but it took a while to flag a server down. It felt like they were purposely avoiding us. Once we were seated, at least I got a sense that our server had already made up their mind about us. Could it have been the way we were dressed (non-fancy outdoor clothes as opposed to being dressed to the nines? I don't know. I just know that our experience here was dimmed by the service. Let's talk about the food and drinks - the Moscow mule and Old Fashioned were pretty strong. A mule not presented in the right drinkware is always a little disappointing. We ordered the blistered shishito peppers, mashed yucca, the sea scallops and the catch of the day, which was salmon. Our favorite in the list was the mashed yucca. I'm not the biggest fan of yucca because it is never smooth enough in the mashed form. This was not the case with the Vaga Yucca. It was mashed to the very last millimeter and then a little more to make a smooth, delicious mash with onions and cilantro. Absolutely delicious and we highly recommend ordering this. The sea scallops were way more delicious than the salmon. I think it was vinaigrette that was the difference between the two. I would recommend them any day. The blistered shishito peppers were delicious but not at all spicy. This was a pretty expensive meal. I had expected more of a Mexican twist given the history of the restaurant's owner chef. It felt more American and fusion instead. While I don't mind paying for good food, I do think that we overpaid for the whole experience as the service part was severely disappointing. San Diego has several other amazing dining experiences so I don't think we will give Vaga another try.

Had breakfast here during my vacation stay. Arrived at 10 AM and was informed there was a 20-minute wait list, even though 80% of the seats were empty. Waited another 20 minutes for food to be served. Ordered sausages, eggs Benedict, and fruit - the food was good, and the views were great, but the slow and cold service might keep it from being a truly good restaurant.

We ordered: Warm Bread Come on a skillet, the bread is so soft and yummy! Very salty tops but come with a side of a honey buddy. Would rate this 4/5 stars due to salt and butter being more garlic than honey. Very delicious regardless. Cesar Salad 5/5 for the salad, larger pieces of lettuce and the dressing & toppings were great Scallops The Starter comes with an order of 3 and they were probably one of the best parts of our meal! 5/5 Mussels Whatever the sauce is they use is DE LISH US! Comes with more bread and many mussels, second best part of the meal! 5/5 Gnocchi Sauce we delicious but the gnocchi itself was not as tender as we hoped. Topped with more scallops so it gets a 3/5 Salmon We had to return this, came out looking like white fish and tasting no bueno. The fish and rice were over cooked. 0/5 Wagyu Steak Another great part of our meal, cooked correctly and the sides paired great with it! Tender, juicy and loved by all at the table. 5/5 We Drank: Bottle of Melka Cabernet Very big, oaky and got better as the night went on and the bottle warmed up! Glass of Cade Chardonnay Refreshing! We did not stay for dessert or have room. We had a reservation and requested outside but none available. Chairs inside are not the most comfortable. Mixed reviews but overall they had many good things here. Definitely get the Scallops!

Giving VAGA two stars solely for the view, because unfortunately the service was a huge letdown. We came the day after Thanksgiving for a late afternoon drink. From the moment we walked inside, we felt like a burden. The male and female bartenders didn’t make us feel welcomed at all, and we eventually moved out to the sun deck because it felt awkward sitting at the bar. We ordered two drinks, and the male bartender seemed annoyed he had to reach up to get the alcohol needed for one of them. We also placed a food order that never went in, so nothing ever came out. After being there for about an hour, we decided to leave, and when we went to close out, they hadn’t even started a tab for us despite having made our drinks and taken our food order. We’re locals and live close by, so it’s disappointing to have this kind of experience at a place with such a great view. We could literally hear the male bartender complaining about everything behind the bar, which did not help the atmosphere. We still tipped 20 percent on the two drinks because that’s standard, but the level of service was far from what we expected. Not sure if we’d return, which is a shame because the location is beautiful.

For a restaurant located inside of a very high end resort hotel, I was very very disappointed. When I made the reservation, I stated that it was for a special occasion (wife’s birthday). Im guessing that it was never communicated to any of the staff because not one person mentioned her bday or offered any bday greetings. The interior is constructed with concrete and glass so it was very noisy inside. I was thinking that this would’ve been a nice quiet intimate spot, but it was anything but quiet. Again, believing that this was going to be a higher end fine dining experience, we dressed up a little. My wife wore a black dress and I had dress pants and a dress shirt. Nothing too crazy, but I observed that the staff was not very well dressed and neither was most of the clientele. All small details that I normally would not care about, but for the prices on the menu, I was truly expecting a little more class and flair. Our server was nice enough, but the service was very slow in every aspect. We ordered a bottle of California wine (pricey considering we are in Cali), and it seemed to take a long time to get that bottle. And it was not served at proper temperature at all. Felt a little warm. We ordered an appetizer to share with, 2 separate entrees and a side of rice and broccolini. Everything took so much longer than anyone would reasonably expect. The waiter apologized at least 3 different times about the delays. We did not complain at all because it was most likely not the servers fault and we were not in any rush at all. But when our mains did finally arrive, it was less than lukewarm. And honestly, the meals were nothing to brag about. Less than mediocre in taste and presentation. Because we’re here on a 2 week vacay, we’ve been eating at almost every restaurant along hwy 101 in Encinitas. Mostly locally owned and operated mom and pop places. The meals from these places have been outstanding along with the friendly service. But Vaga was literally the worst dining experience we’ve encountered period. Save your money, go eat at any of the great family owned restaurants in the area and enjoy a real fine dining experience.

The food portion was very small. The duck carnitas was good just not enough. The entrees were gross. They kept putting ur silverware and serving utensils directly on the table so gross. The staff was very nice and attentive, the view is good. Definitely will not be returning or recommending to anyone.
