This was our 2nd order and I have to say: This place knows how to make their food well and how to make sure their customers are happy! The food was phenomenal, we ordered a variety of dishes [1st time we ordered, things weren't quite right and items were missing] and this time there were no mistakes! Everything looked spectacular and tasted phenomenally! The guy that took our order over the phone was kind and in person, he was incredibly helpful! I'm glad we gave it a second chance! This is an awesome place and experience whether you take the food to go or dine in! Highly recommend! It will become your new favorite! Note: Meat tends to be on the spicy/"mouth burning" side, so keep that in mind, but i'm sure they can make modifications.

Went to Kabul House in Evanston with some friends and it was honestly a really good experience. The place has a chill, cozy vibe — nothing fancy, just comfortable and welcoming. You walk in and it already feels like a spot people come back to regularly. The food was the highlight. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the portions were solid. The kabobs were juicy, the rice was perfectly cooked, and nothing felt dry or bland. You can tell the food is made with care, not rushed. Even people in our group who are usually picky were happy with what they ordered. Service was easygoing and friendly. Nobody rushed us, and everyone was polite and helpful without being over the top. It made the whole experience feel relaxed. Overall, it’s a great place if you want something different from the usual takeout or chain restaurants. Good food, good vibe, and a spot I’d definitely come back to. If you’re in Evanston and want to try Afghan food, this place is worth checking out.

5 star. Have been here multiple times and every time it has been a fantastic culinary journey. Food is flavorful. Service is excellent. Atmosphere is great. Ambiance is perfect. Try the tea infused with cardamom for certain. Eggplant, hummus, pumpkin, soup, chicken, baklava - all are equally good.

This was a nice experience for me and my friend. They out a ton of energy into their product and how they present themselves. They had a wide variety of menu items to select from and all with reasonable prices. If you're looking for a lunch special, that's only Monday-Friday.

Kabul House is fantastic! The Mediterranean food here is really tasty, and their kabli plao is just amazing! Every bite is full of flavor. The vibe is cozy, and the staff is super friendly. If you’re looking for good food, this place is a must-try!

We chose this restaurant because we wanted to try something new and we didn't regret it. I'm an excellent cook, so I'm very picky about food and generally very picky. And I rarely like food outside of home. But this time, 10/10. We will defiantly return back 🙏🏻

First time dining at Kabul house and my family and I had nothing but phenomenal things to say, we loved all the food we ate. The service was also great. We will be back, thank you!!!

We went for a lunch date with my husband. We waited a while for the food, but it was definitely worth it as it tasted amazing. The staff was friendly, and the atmosphere had the perfect lunch vibes. We both loved their Afghan raisin rice—it was so good!

Very nice environment, classy inside, nice casual outside in courtyard. BYO alcohol, worked fine for us, brought wine and a mixed drink with ice in an insulated wine carry bag. Service and food were both excellent! Very reasonable prices. I had lamb shank (pictured), wife had chicken kebab. Both dishes included their specialty rice, and all food was perfect. Thursday evening, no reservation, easy seating. Online says no reservations for groups less than 6, but sign at entry says call for reservation for any size group. So, if concerned, call.

I had a great experience here earlier today! helpful staff, clean restrooms and dining area, quick service, and great food. Their lunch deals are a real steal! Affordable food that was super yummy. We ordered the ground chicken kebab, and veggie platter. I loved the food and the sauces that go with it. The soups are also great!

We ordered a combination platter and Kabuli Pulav, and everything was good, specially the chicken. It was very flavorful and not dry. We also ordered Hibiscus drink which is our all time favorite. In desert we ordered firni which was amazing and not too sweet.

Just stumbled upon this one , it’s a proper restaurant with good atmosphere. I loved the service of our services the most he was very polite and respectful . The food is awesome especially the kabob and milk cake were outstanding. I personally like the tea as well. Definitely must visit when in the vicinity

One of the best places I’ve been too. I did a private dinner for my family and friends here and the service was amazing and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The food was great and everyone loved it. I worked with the team to put in the group orders a few days before and they took care of everything on the day of, I didn’t have to do anything, they were very organised and took care of everyone’s needs. I definitely recommend this places especially if you are looking to host a dinner for 20+ people.

We came here for a celebratory dinner after a northwestern graduation ceremony. The food was so delicious that I was happy to have the leftovers for lunch the next day. The staff was very polite and the restaurant was clean. When we went, the men’s bathroom was down and the women’s bathroom became a unisex with one customer at a time. This likely has changed since we went. As far as food goes I’d definitely start with the hummus and get either chicken or beef koobidah for juicy tender meat. Sooo good.

Recently tried Kabul house and it was a wonderful experience. I used to go to the Oakton location back in the day, but this new place is bigger and better than the old location. It's a beautiful restaurant , spacious, plenty of seating. The decor is pretty and welcoming. The staff is friendly and our server made great recommendations . We had Mango Bellini Mocktail and Strawberry Tahin Mocktail. Beef Mantoo, Spicy Chicken Kabob, Lamb Chops, Shrimp Kabob & Beef Koobideh. Date Salad & Kadu, Afghan Rice & Saffron Dill Rice, Hot Black Cardamom Tea & Firni. Everything we tried was delicious. The portions are great and can be easily shared. I also like that they have vegetarian options as well. I'm totally going back there again. Highly recommend this place.

I recently dined at Kabul House, and it was an absolutely extraordinary experience. The service was top-notch; they really went above and beyond. You could tell they used good quality ingredients in all their dishes. We were there for a friend's birthday, and they surprised her with a cake and candle, which was such a nice touch. The baklava was awesome, and the Kabul plov was really tasty. To top it off, the tea was just perfect. Anything less than 5 stars for this place would be an injustice!

First, I have to appreciate the welcoming piece of my experience. Even though, I arrived near the closing time, one of the staff going on a smoke break, stopped and asked if I plan to dine. Getting a Yes, she first got me to the table before going on the break. This is called Customer Service. The server was also very friendly and caring through out the dinner. Coming to dishes, I enjoyed every item ordered including Kabuli Pulao, Beef Koobideh Skewer, Naan, Mango Bellini Mocktail. The mocktails are non-alcoholic. Mango Bellini had a unique flavor combining mango nectar with a bit of fresh lime and a small quantity of club soda creating a light fizz. They don’t have mango chunks in case that is an expectation but it was good. #KabuliPulao was excellent with good quantity of resins and a very soft melting lamb shank. If you are fond of melted fat and its aroma, you will like it. Beef Koobideh is like seekh kabab though different spices with a nice flavor of pomegranate seeds. Very soft and juicy. Finally, the two hit snd tangy sauces were a great combo. All the food is #halal. I do have to say it is a bit spendy but the serving is good for two average eaters. #AfghaniCuisine #food #Chicago #Illinois #travel

The pomegranate mocktail here is exceptional—really refreshing and flavorful, arguably the highlight of the meal. The place has a festive vibe with nice lighting and thoughtful décor, creating a pleasant dining atmosphere. In addition to regular rice, they also offer Afghani rice with vegetables, adding a nice touch of authenticity. Most dishes are priced around $25 each. We tried the Buloni appetizer and the combination plate, which included lamb kebab, seekh kebab, and chicken kebab. I found both the lamb and chicken a bit too chewy — I was hoping for more tender meat. Overall, the food is pretty good, but the mocktail definitely stood out more than the main dishes.

Lamp chop was 10/10. Species were just perfect, and it melted on mouth. Beef kebab was also good. Chicken kebab was okaish, I found it too salty although my family liked it. We ordered appetized with two dips, which was also delicious. For desert we ordered, milk cake which was not bad. Then I ordered Firni which was topped with lots of nuts & blueberries. That was really tasteless, when we let them know about it they immediately replaced it with Bakhlava, which was not bad. They have a rich menu for main course. The interior of the restaurant is very nice, and spacious. I will give full marks for the interior and the cleanliness. Around 100 people can dine-in at the same time. Went there on weekend for lunch so it was moderately crowded. AC was turned off, so they kept their windows open, we seat right next to the road so it was a little noisy at times. There are many picture worthy corners. This place is perfect for family dinner/lunch. Staffs are okay, not very smiling but immediately offered us a new dessert when we complained so cannot complain. Highly recommended, and I am looking forward to try other dishes from this place.

Absolutely amazing experience! We tried the beef mantu, and it was incredibly flavorful—perfectly spiced and delicious. The filet mignon skewers were unbelievably tender and cooked to perfection, while the beef koobideh had a great taste and texture. We also had the Kabuli Pulao, which was really good—the perfect balance of rice, meat, and sweetness from the raisins and carrots. On top of the fantastic food, the service was exceptional! Our waiter was so attentive, constantly checking in to ensure everything was perfect. Definitely a place worth visiting, and we’ll be back for more! Highly recommend!

Have been here a few times and the food is fantastic, the service can be a little slow at times but it is generally a relaxed atmosphere. Last time I was there for a leisurely lunch with my girlfriend I saw an old woman walk in with a cane, eat a delicious meal, and walk out without it. It was as though the food was so good it healed her condition. The staff even ran out after her attempting to give her the cane but she had left too quickly no longer needing it. I’m not sure which dish she had but I’d recommended to those with mobility issues. I assume it was one of the lunch specials - we chicken Barg and a vegetable qorma, and black tea. I will be back again

This authentic Afghan restaurant is a gem! We have been coming here for many years and the food and service is always consistent. We enjoyed the outdoor patio this weekend and highly recommend the lamb chops, chicken barg plate, salata, saffron milk cake and any of their lemonades & mocktails.

Amazing amazing food. Truly one of the few places that have mastered their dishes so well that there are zero complaints. Everything was so fresh, from the meat quality to the Kabuli pilao. My favorite Afghan dish is always Mantu and Kabul House does a great job at their version! Looking forward to going back. Also their whole menu is halal so that’s another huge perk. The service and ambience was commendable. The art on the walls really shows the beauty of the country and the cuisine that comes with it. Can’t wait to go back here!

Kabul House is a spacious and extravagant restaurant that offers an authentic Afghani fare and experience at a great value. Stepped in both times years apart to be equally impressed. The staff here are extremely polite and attentive. I highly recommend trying their beef koobidah with Afghan carrot and raisin rice and hummus. Solid choice all around. I’d come here whenever I’m in Evanston.

This place has amazingly delicious food. All food is halal. Service is great. It has plenty of seating. They offer espresso which was excellent and awesome desserts. Parking is somehow not enough for the place. Recommend the restaurant.

One of the best Afghani restaurants I’ve been to. We opted for their platter # 2. All the kebabs were delicious and serving size was excelled — fed a group of 6, all of whom eat well ;). The humus and eggplant appetisers with fresh afghani naan was a hit. We topped it off with their saffron tea, saffron latte, and Afghani coffee — all were 10/10! Would definitely visit again!

Love the place and food. Service was awesome and quick! Unfortunately, nobody came to remind us about the last order before the kitchen closed and we couldn't place any more orders.

Amazing!! I got the combination of two different meats and rices and it was great. The service was perfect as the servers constantly checked up on us and refilled our drinks. The ambiance was also very good with nice decor and cleanliness. Overall, was perfection!

Really beautiful restaurant with delicious food and excellent service. We make the trip up here anytime that we're in town - its that good! And the service was excellent with multiple waitstaff working together to ensure that all our needs were met. Absolutely 5 star.

I will recommend this to anyone that wants great middle eastern food. You can bring your whole family or a date for two, either way the place is amazing. Don't for to try their delicious cakes.

We recently dined at Kabul House and had a wonderful experience overall. The ambiance was amazing — warm, cozy, and full of authentic Afghan vibes that really set the mood for the meal. We ordered the Hummus, Bulanee, Aushak, Spicy Chicken Kabob, Chicken Koobideh Kabob, and Afghan Saffron Tea. The kabobs were the absolute highlight — flavorful, tender, and perfectly cooked. The Afghan rice served alongside was a hit too — soft, aromatic, and beautifully spiced with carrots and other seasonings that made it incredibly delicious. The chutneys added a nice spicy kick and paired well with everything we ordered. The only thing we didn’t enjoy much was the pita bread, which felt a bit dry. Parking was a bit of a struggle, but we managed to find a spot across the street. Despite that, it was totally worth it for the food and atmosphere. Overall, a great dining experience — delicious food, vibrant ambiance, and wonderful Afghan flavors. Definitely recommend trying their kabobs and rice!

Ground beef kabobs and dill rice was very flavorful! The hummus was a bit on the thinner side and lack a bit of flavor.

R

The Kabuli Pulao didn’t taste quite like it used to, but it was still enjoyable. The lamb chops were cooked to perfection—tender, juicy, and well-seasoned. The beef dumplings were another highlight, packed with rich flavors and a satisfying texture. Overall, a great place for a hearty and authentic meal! Reservations are recommended coz it’s always crowded even in waiting area.

One of the best restaurants we have ever dined out in Chicago. If you want to indulge into an amazing culinary journey into the Afghan cuisine then this your place. Correctly priced, caring staffs and nice ambiance makes it an experience of complete bliss.

A very welcoming establishment. Friendly staff all around. We ordered various entrées; lamp chop, chicken kabobs and barg with other apps. Good portion and best dill rice I have had in a long time. Clean and spacious which I liked. Price is appropriate to the quality and quantity of the meal.

L
Lesleigh Wright

The parking situation is terrible, so be prepared for that. The food is worth it though! It’s always so fresh and delicious. I’ve been twice now and even though it’s an hour drive for us we will continue to come visit.

C

Kabul House offers a warm, inviting experience with some of the most flavorful Afghan dishes around. The aromas of saffron, chargrilled meats, and freshly baked bread hit you right away, setting the stage for a meal that’s both comforting and rich in tradition. Their kebabs are consistently tender and well-seasoned, and the signature rice—fragrant, slightly sweet, and beautifully prepared—always stands out. The service is friendly and attentive, making you feel genuinely welcomed from the moment you sit down. While the dining room can get a bit busy during peak hours, the quality of the food makes it well worth the visit. Kabul House delivers a memorable meal that keeps you coming back, easily earning its solid four-star rating.

Say consistency is an issue here. Love their rice, carrot and raisin dish but the carrots were totally undercooked this time and presentation was just not there. Lamb and chicken were pretty tasty. Pumpkin dish was not for me. The mante were pretty tasty! Those are a must! I would not order those to go but everything else is fine for takeout. Also this is a good place for large groups since they have a massive space

N
Nubaira Kabir

Used to come here all the time because this Afghan restaurant is probably the best in the Chicagoland area, but it seems as if they have increased their prices while cutting down on the amount of meat served. To make you think that you’re getting a lot of food, they give you extra rice. I always get the Filet Mignon Kebab platter and this time they only gave me one skewer instead of two like they usually did, and all their other kebabs do come with two skewers so not sure why this one didn’t. The flavor was good still, but am not going to return just because it’s not worth the price to be getting half as much as before.

M
Manal Nabeel

We ordered Beef mantu(dumplings), combination platter with afghan rice and it came with two small size sauces(favorite sauces) and for drink we ordered Mango Bellini mocktail(non alcohol). Mango Bellini came half empty as u can see in the picture, and tasted straight up box juice similar to Shezan mango juice (but weird in taste)….upon asking the waiter why is my mocktail half empty, he said that’s how they serve. In no way this half empty glass looks fancy or stylish to me , it cost $8. Don’t waste your money on that thinking you’re going to get a good Bellini. Mantu was ok , but the combination platter had beef skewer and one thigh skewer and they both tasted delicious. Staff was ok not the best, as we were still eating (almost done tho) and the waiter came to pick up dishes as if they were in hurry. We went at 6pm and it wasn’t crowded so don’t understand why the waiter was in hurry. Overall will rate 5/10 experience. They are charging you more for the ambience experience only

This place used to be my favorite, but over the past couple of years, whenever I go there, I've noticed their food has become increasingly ordinary. The Kabuli rice now is just a regular rice with carrots and raisins. The meat was okay, but again, it was not as good as it used to be.

H
Hashir Kidwai

This place is supposed to be a family restaurant, expectation is for your kid to not touch anything on table, wall, or walk around. Red haired lady in management will come around and passive aggressively move things on tables around you till she can find a reason to engage and tell you your kid can't touch that. Our kid was not screaming, running around or disturbing the only ONE other table that had people on it in the entire restaurant. He picked up some fake candles and played with them, WE put them back in place. If you are a Normal family with Normal curious toddlers, don't come here. Youre money is better spent elsewhere. Came here for years, will not be coming back anymore. Edit to response from owner: Safety was an excuse and not a concern. I had literally picked up my son and put him in his chair, he merely touched one of the 3 screws holding the picture frame when the manager found her reason to engage. We're not neglectful parents to let our kid run rampant or break things. You mentioned Valentine's dinner rush, at 2 pm in the day time? We go to restaurants quite frequently with our son, and we've Never had anyone treat children this way. Your ownership and staff were more concerned about $2 worth of fake candles opposed to catering to long term paying and returning customers. The deflection of your managements actions and lack of customer service is clearly reflected in your response.

Having heard this restaurant had tasty food, I was unfortunately left completely disappointed. After making a 28-minute trip to get there, I was met with poor service from the inattentive woman at the counter, who seemed more focused on her hands-free call than on helping customers. The real letdown came when I opened the meal I had paid $28 for. The portion was shockingly small, served in a little black box and containing only a small amount of rice, four tiny pieces of meat, a couple of spoonfuls of green salad, and a single spoonful of hummus. Considering the long drive and the high price, this experience was a complete waste of time and money, and I strongly urge everyone to avoid this restaurant.
