This phenomenal neighborhood joint exists because locals own it. Heather & Morgan are the latest (newest!) set of owner-managers, and we are all benefitting from their continuance of a coffeehouse that keeps downtown Ft. Bragg awake and social. (And free local, top notch music in the evening - the Tuesday I stopped by was a six-piece jazz band...and, of course, the bassist was an earlier owner of this here coffee shop....)
First time in California from Miami, Fl for a training. I was looking everywhere on the coast for Cuban coffee for the ride back from Fort Braggs to Ukiah. I stopped at the Headlands Coffee house and from the moment I walked in I knew i would love this place. It was a Wednesday night and they had live chill music. I ordered a salad....excellent by the way...and sat next to an amazing smelling flower. Before i got back on the road I asked for a Cuban coffee. Juan the owner was really kind and tried to make something close to it. It was really good and appriciated him going above and beyond to make me feel at home. I spoke with all their employees for a while and they even gave me suggestions on what route to take back. Everyone I had a conversation with were all very nice. I really enjoyed my time there. The food was great and the service was spectacular!!! Needless to say that I made it back to Ukiah in less than 2 hrs and I didn't even blink once! Lol
My go to when I'm in Fort Bragg for the morning. I like that they have a number of local roasted options, even though its not all high brow coffee its solid. Good selection of pastries and other food options. I've also tripped through here during the evening and found a great jazz band playing. Great vibes in this place.
We were staying 4 nights in Ft. Bragg and 3 mornings we came here for coffee and treats. We were always waiting with others for them to open. Coming from Sacramento, the prices were cheap for espresso drinks. Peppermint mocha was delicious and not too sweet. Apple crown was flaky and delicious. Self serve coffee was piping hot and plenty to choose from. Local bakery items.
Love this place. It's cash only, so be prepared for that small inconvenience if you don't tend to carry cash. Otherwise, it's very good coffee and pastries in a charming place. My daughter loved the cartoons of food, her milk, and croissants. My breve mocha tasted like a breve mocha and not like sugar milk.
I had a wonderful experience at Headlands Coffeehouse! I got a white chocolate mocha and a cheesecake, both of which were absolutely delicious. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, and the service was fantastic friendly and efficient. This is definitely a spot I’ll be coming back to. Highly recommend
Fantastic coffee! We were overall impressed with quality, the laid back atmosphere and the very reasonable prices! We head to Fort Bragg once every other month or so and this is now a regular stop in our routine.
We heard great things about this place. It was great. When we first walked in, I thought all they had was in the case. I wished someone would have told me to lookup at the menu. The pastrys were great. My husband liked the mochas. We went twice here and I am sure next time we come, we will be back.
Visiting from out of state with the family and found this great breakfast spot! Different varieties of coffee that all tasted great. One of my family members got a latte with vanilla, delicious! Never had one served in a glass before which adds a different spin on it. The breakfast was great as well. Side note: they only take cash but have an ATM which is a good alternative.
Holy quads that latte was so smooth, from the milk to the consistency of flavor. (Ordered hot latte with whole milk and a white chocolate mocha both hot) and 10/10 would come here every day!! Seriously come sit and yap here with a good cup of coffee.
Great vibes at Headlands. It's cash only, so once you get past the idea you're buying coffee from the Cartels, it's fine. I sampled all the coffees with a splash of 1/2&1/2. I ranked them but have forgotten their names. Sorry. You'll enjoy every one. We ate the bagel with lox. Very tasty. You'll find some olive oil on the bar. Stop through and relax a while. Bonus points if you bang out some rhythm and blues on the piano.
Headlands, another long time gem here, brings a different culinary feel to our town and the change is welcome. A cash only location that has an artsy, chic and bohemian feel. You are greeted as a local and served as a lifetime friend. The menu choices focus more on health than fat with a variety of vegetarian dishes. We chose the waffle, special jalapeño bagel with lox and Pompeii panini that my daughter chose. Funny that is her mom's favorite as well, though she stopped reading and would have tried the Sicilian otherwise. This is a great spot on Laurel Street, our shopping hub. Try it out. Pretty sure I’m gonna go broke eating out so much 😳🤭. I’m now in the market for a dining #sugarmama 😲🙃🤣😂🙃😘 Only in Fort Bragg Fort Bragg Advocate-News
Nice atmosphere. Ordered fruit waffle and pestini panini which came with delicious vegetable soup. They also have live music in afternoon, loved this place.
Very cute little coffee shop that is busy. We stopped overnight in Fort Bragg and found this spot on Google Maps. Wish they accepted credit card, because it’s cash only. However their prices are super affordable, so I imagine that the savings from not accepting credit cards are passed onto the customer which I appreciate. Coffee was good too. Definitely would recommend this spot, just remember to bring cash.
Such a great experience! Amazing staff and servers, very polite and professional. Food was outstanding and the coffee was delicious. Absolutely peaceful vibes and close to everything. Great artwork and artistic atmosphere as well. Definitely recommend it and if parking is tight it's well worth the walk if you have to park down the road. We found parking during busy times though! Options for the whole family and lots of seating.
Headlands Coffeehouse in Fort Bragg is a charming spot rich in local culture. The cappuccino was delightful—beautifully decorated and full of flavor. It’s a cash-only place, so be prepared. The café has a cozy vibe, often filled with local patrons, giving it an authentic and welcoming atmosphere. While the food is premade with no option for modifications, everything is fresh and satisfying. The bagel selection is limited, but the quality makes up for it. If you’re seeking great coffee and a glimpse into the local community, this is the place to be!
Exploring downtown Ft Bragg we wanted coffee and wanted to visit a local spot, rather than the “Big Green” coffee place. The atmosphere is adorable. It was packed but we were still able to order quickly. The coffee was good.

Such a cute place with many tables. We were sad we couldn’t stay for the live music on a Saturday afternoon. Delicious cappuccino. Cash only, they have an ATM, and prices are quite reasonable.

A go to spot for coffee when in Fort Bragg with at least 8+ coffee fresh and warm on tap. I love to get a coffee "for here" getting a simple coffee cup and two fill-ups as a way to unwind after fun on the coast. They serve Big River Coffee here and though the coffee isn't anything revolutionary it's well made and served by some lovely people! Always a treat to stop her when I visit. Also, Free Wifi!
Charming and delicious, but service mishap spoiled the experience This place is truly unique — full of charming details and a cozy, vibrant atmosphere. It’s visually interesting and feels warm and inviting. We came here for breakfast and loved the variety: sandwiches, pastries, soups, and a wide selection of drinks. Everything we tried was fresh and delicious — especially the sweets! The downside was the service. We waited about 15 minutes for a table and stood in line to order — the place is very popular with both locals and tourists. We placed a fairly large order for two adults and two kids. While drinks and ready-made pastries arrived quickly, our main order never came. After 20 minutes of waiting (assuming it was just a long prep time), we asked — and found out our order had been lost. The staff was polite and apologetic, but we were offered no gesture of goodwill — no discount, no complimentary item — just words. Unfortunately, we were on a tight schedule for a tour, and had to rush through hot soup in 7 minutes, which really affected the experience. That said, I’d still recommend this place — the food is great, and the atmosphere is special. Just be prepared for long lines and possible delays. If you’re not in a rush, it’s a lovely spot to relax and enjoy something truly tasty.
First off, this is CASH ONLY. If that’s the only thing you read, I’m glad. It felt weird to order and then leave to use an atm. Also the $3 I would have tipped was eaten by the atm machine…oh well. Dear business owner, I would really appreciate an eye level sign hanging on the screen door thing instead of one hanging in the air above my head. Any new customer invested in pouring over the menu will definitely miss the register’s sign. Anyways! Nice people, cute interior, good music. The drinks taste homemade, the baked goods are alright, and the food is extremely bland but good in portion size.
Cute little coffee place! Excellent collection of coffees, and the potato soup our group ordered was great though. Couple brewed coffees had gone cold, but the staff was quick to replace it. They're cash only (there's an atm on site) which was a tiny bit of a hassle.
We ordered the breakfast burrito, a latte, and an americano. The burrito was really good, cooked more like a panini, pretty basic but very good. The coffee was also very good, you could tell they put in the effort needed to make a good coffee. I definitely recommend if you're in need of a light breakfast and coffee.

Placed a takeout order while on a trip through here. They could have mentioned that they're cash or check only. I got a bagel special and it didn't come as a pre constructed sandwich, so was kind of disappointed. Wife got a burrito which was extremely bland (no salt or any seasoning whatsoever). Overall the place felt overpriced and there's much better options in town. Macchiato was just ok.
Great vibes when walking in, awesome art depicting the many variety of coffees they have. We've come here several times when traveling and visiting Fort Bragg, each time I'm not impressed with my mocha. Sadly it tastes like chocolate milk, zero crema or coffee taste. The blueberry scones are always a hit, they have a buttermilk twang about them. I'll shoot for one of their drip coffees on my next arrival. Staff is always friendly.
I went here thinking it would be decent coffee. Thankfully they still had a few premade breakfast burritos left so I had one of those, and a large mocha latte. They heated the burrito and made the latte quickly. Its counter-order, table-delivery. The staff was pleasant and working quickly. However, the burrito was marginal; eggs cheese beans but there was no meat. I should have asked about this. The coffee was pretty bad, extremely weak. When I inquired how many shots are put into a 16oz latte, they told me “only one”. I said “no, that’s not right, it should be at least 2, maybe 3.” The response was (paraphrasing) basically “we make all our lattes with one shot no matter how big.” I replied, “that’s not the right way to make a latte,” and I was told again “that’s how we do it.” So I ordered and paid for two more shots which made my latte only slightly better. Surprisingly it was not very good flavorful coffee to begin with and it’s crazy they only use one shot for a 16oz latte, which means you get 10-12 oz of warm milk, and the froth disappears quickly. Also they are served in drink glasses, which is not a great way to serve a latte. I went around the corner to get a better latte somewhere else. I think this place has potential but needs to improve their barista style. Maybe their other food is better, I don’t know because I only had the breakfast burrito.

Food was ok, a little pricey. Cash only and very slow - would not recommend if you’re in a rush.
We headed here for a quick morning coffee. The environment is cozy. Note that they only take cash! The waiter is friendly. However, when I ask them to put my coffee in a Togo cup, they refused to do it and said it’s because I am gonna be seating here. (I was with a friend but I know I am not eating there.) After my friend is done with his breakfast, I grabbed my untouched coffee and cookie to the counter to ask for Togo cup. I ordered a 12oz coffee, did not take a sip, and it was only 2/3 full of the 12oz cup. They said it’s because they wanna leave space for cream and sugar, when I clearly indicated during my order that I don’t need them. Even after asking them to top off, they didn’t add much water. I think it’s a little shady to give 2/3 of what I order using the excuse of cream and sugar.
It's a cash only cafe. They have an atm in case you need cash. My friend got mocha, and I got hot chocolate, and they switched our orders in terms of the sizes we ordered. My friend also got a breakfast burrito to go, and that took about 15 minutes. It was a decent size burrito, but very mediocre. It was one of the few places that was open on Memorial Day.

The high star reviews make no sense. Aside from the fly infestation from them keeping the door propped open with no fan, the menu is limited, and the food is about average. Lox, you could get at a grocery, waffle equivalent to a continental breakfast at any hotel. There are also far too many rules against coffee refills or sitting for a to go order. You can't get a box to go if you ordered too much..... Just go somewhere better.
Unprofessional, Condescending, and Overstepping Boundaries Walked into Headlands Coffeehouse to grab a drink and was immediately questioned—not about my order—but about what was in my own Nalgene bottle. Staff acted like I was bringing in a controlled substance and told me they could be liable if I got sick from my own drink. Seriously? Let’s be clear: this was my sealed, personal bottle. Not something they served. Their logic? Completely made-up. There’s no health code that says a business is responsible for what a paying customer carries into their own mouth. What this really was—was a power trip and an overreach. Instead of focusing on customer service or the quality of their overpriced drinks, they were busy playing hall monitor. I left without ordering, and I won’t be back. If you value being treated with respect and basic professionalism, try anywhere else in town. This place doesn’t know the difference between hospitality and hostility.
My girlfriend and I both got the most flavorless chai lattes for $4.90. Maybe they have good coffee, but the chai’s were so watered down, and lacking in flavor. Very disappointing.
We were traveling through Northern California and stayed in Fort Bragg for one night. Hoping to enjoy good coffee and pastries, we chose this café with the expectation of the warm hospitality typical of a small-town coffee shop. We ordered three cups of coffee and three bagels to eat inside, but our coffee was served in disposable cups. We found this a bit unusual, but since some cafés do use disposable cups for dine-in orders, we did not question it further. When my boyfriend asked for honey, we were told there would be an extra charge. We then waited for our bagels, but none were brought to us. Later, we discovered they had been placed in to-go paper bags on the counter with the takeout orders. At that point, we realized there had been a misunderstanding. Although confused, we sat down and had our coffee and bagels inside. When we attempted to refill a cup of coffee, we were stopped and told that to-go orders are not eligible for refills. I went to the counter to explain that we had ordered to dine in and were not informed of any misunderstanding or specific rules. I expressed that it did not feel fair to be treated this way under the circumstances. The woman at the counter apologized but said that since the order had already been processed as to-go, refills were not allowed. I do not know if this is how businesses are run these days, but I have never experienced customer service like this at any coffee shop before. Unfortunately, this experience has left a negative impression, and I do not plan to visit this place again. It’s cash only, fyi.
I just touched to play a few notes of piano - very rude - absolutely don’t like it

The breakfast burrito and bacon frittata were very bland and boring. We were traveling through town and stopped for a quick bite. The staff would not allow us to order our food to eat there and a to-go cup of coffee, so we could drink on the road. Instead they kicked us outside like we were vagrants!! The whole experience was inhospitable. I was angry I already paid.
Overpriced and mediocre food paired with shockingly poor service. The coffee was cold, served in tiny awkward cups, and sold with a bait and switch promise of endless refills that only applies if you take it to go. Try to sit down and actually enjoy what you paid for and you are treated with open hostility, scorned, and made to feel like you need to get out immediately. The entire experience was uncomfortable from start to finish, capped off by an aggressively rude staff member obsessively enforcing arbitrary rules instead of showing basic hospitality. This place does not value customers, comfort, or quality. I will not be back and I do not recommend it to anyone.
