I'm in from California and my buddy who lives here suggested we come to Shady Oak for some food. It's about the halfway point between where I'm staying and where his house is. First off the Google maps could have made my journey about 8 minutes quicker but it didn't. So I put in a change of map request. But once inside we spent 3 hours eating, drinking and having a great time. Our waitress, I'm going to say her name is Tamara, If I'm wrong I'm sorry, did a great job of making sure we had everything we needed. Checked in on the table refilled our drinks, made sure we had enough ranch dressing to dip our appetizer in, and just had fun with us while we hung out there and connected. I'll say one of the goofy things that Tamara revealed was, she had probably 20 different colored pens in her waitress belt and she explained that it was for multiple checks. Lots of times people come in there and groups and they want to have separate checks so she has multiple colored pencils for different checks. Kind of a cool revelation that I never thought about because I've never been in food service. We actually met a manager outside and had a great conversation with him too. Overall, just a great experience. To meet such wonderful friendly people is awesome. It sure enhances the visit that I'm having. Thanks, guys.
Great food, atmosphere, and the BEST waitress ever! The food was delicious. We had bread, fried pickles, a stuffed baked potato, ribs and cobbler. Lots of food and large portions. Ask for Jenni if you stop by. She’s is by far one of the most incredible waitresses we’ve ever had. I hope they know how blessed they are to have her! ☺️
Came in late for a business trip. Wanted to redeem the last bbq I had in the north east. Shady Oak really came through!! Everything was true Texas amazing bbq! Had fall off the bone ribs, started with the bacon ends. It was all great from start to finish especially the cinnamon apples! Joel was a great server and made the experience even better. Was in and served all of my hot tasty bbq in under 20 minutes! Might try to stop back before I leave.
Bbq is always good! Service was fast as always. Some of the chairs are wobbly and need to be replaced. Staff is aware of the issue.
Second time around was just as good as the first. Good barbecue place with great atmosphere, especially on a colder winter day. Huge fireplace in main dining was perfect. Portions and price are great. I love the bread, it’s like it’s made fresh and brought to your table. So good. Ribs and brisket are great, well smoked and flavorful. 👍🏻
I’m sooo skeptical when I walk into a bbq joint because I am very picky. Although I can’t speak for all the barbecue items, I can say that I LoVe absolutely everything I ordered! After ordering the peppered sausage & peppered beans as many people recommended, I also to took a chance on the coleslaw and cinnamon apples. The sausage and beans were spot on delicious. The coleslaw still tasted healthy because it was not overly dressed & the flavors were blended (thoughtfully marinated yet not over saturated). The cinnamon apples were fresh, perfectly soft, yet had texture of an apple still. I loved the softness of the sausage and no mysterious pieces. The beans were still whole yet perfectly tender. I just loved everything so much & I’m just very surprised since I am so picky! Shout out to Aaron, who is a manager, bartender, server. He was very knowledgeable & patient with all of our questions. Also, the Texas tea was a great not-overly-sweet cocktail & tasted well-made, not skimped. Just right!! Not a wordsmith; just sayin’ it how it was! 💜
We haven’t been to Shady Oaks in a long time, and we just had the best experience. Tommy Money, who is in charge of guest relations is impressive and a delight and made our experience amazing. We will be back soon!
Jenny provided a friendly service. Mr. Money is wonderful!! We're a family of 6 and all of us ate a variety of food. The restaurant was really clean, great atmosphere. We all agree the food was fresh and delicious. We will definitely come back!!
I came in on a Saturday afternoon, it wasn't packed and I was immediately greeted with a smile and a wave! I ordered to go this time. It was my second time trying this place and I'll definitely be back. It was less than 10 mins until I had my order in my hand and I was out the door! I purchased the 3 meat combo plate: chopped Brisket, pepper sausage and ribs, Coleslaw, mac n cheese, and corn, complete with black berry cobbler. I couldn't eat the entire thing, but boy did I try....from all the bbq I've tried thus far, Shady Oaks is my favorite. The smoked flavor is *chefs kiss*, Kudos to y'all!
OMG, y'all! By far the BEST bbq I've had in recent years! The ribs, although not "fall off the bone", they were tender, smoky, and delicious! The brisket was lean and melt-in-your-mouth scrumptious! The corn on the cob tasted like none I've ever tasted before! I picked up my order at the take out counter and service was snappy and friendly! Highly recommend this spot!
It’s my favorite restaurant the brisket so delicious with very good service ,professional and nice staff 💯
Absolutely AMAZING! We had the brisket, pulled pork, okra, potato salad, and spicy Texas beans and it was all delicious. Not to mention, it was only $50 for the two of us, which is almost unheard of these days for goooood food. The only downside of our visit was the bacon burnt ends were sold out, but that's the price you pay when going later in the day to a BBQ restaurant.
I went to Shady Oaks today and the food was really good and the service was EXCELLENT! The brisket and Texas beans are always delicious! I also had corn on the cob and knowing it's a BBQ joint, I still asked if they happened to have cajun seasoning for my corn (doesn't hurt to ask). The waitress went to ask and brought some back. There was a gentleman that was kind enough to make some for me with the seasonings they had on hand. He even came to the table to ask me how it was. Now that's going above and beyond for your customers. The waitress could have just told me no and the gentlemen could have told her no as well, but they did the opposite, and I really appreciate it. I'll definitely be back.
We loved shady oaks BBQ, the food and service was awesome. We ordered the sampler appetizer along with 2 meals the appetizer came and it was amazing we had to ask for our meals to go because we got full on the appetizer. The food tastes really good the portions are good service is good atmosphere is great. We will be going back.
Friday night just before the rush. Took my 2 niecces from Florida. Had an excellent table on patio. Food, drinks, service all were excellent. Wife said her bbq chicken 🐔was the best she ever had. Had a band, three fools on three stools, playing. First night 🌙back since pandemic. County music 🎶with the band interacting with patrons. Weather was fabulous and we had a fantastic time. 😀 great place to go.
I love Shady Oak. They serve piping hot bread, fresh out of the oven, while you're waiting for your meal. The bread has a distinct smoky flavor and is lightly sprinkled with salt on the outside. The meats are ALL delicious. The turkey is juicy and flavorful, the brisket is moist, Ribs fall off the bone. The Mac n cheese is decent but I do prefer a baked Mac n cheese with real cheddar. Overall, nice place to visit that is consistent and has fast service.
Great food and a great experience. We stopped in for an early dinner and sat on the patio which has a nice view of the river. The decor and the whole atmosphere were very cool. The food was outstanding including the Trash Can Appetizer served on a trash can lid. I definietly recommend the combos so you can try more of the great barbecue choices. Rounding out the experience, our servicer was very helpful and made some great suggestions. If we lived in Texas, I am sure we would be regulars.
Delicious BBQ, great atmosphere, great service. Pulled pork a little too saucy for our liking, but the brisket was great and the st Louis ribs were top notch! Got to sample a new dessert that was amazing as well! Highly recommend!
Haven't been back to Texas for a while, and finding BBQ is requisite. A friend's recommendation to come to Shady Oak was an excellent one. Service and food was wonderful... even if you make a silly mistake.
Logan was amazing! She was super attentive, speedy and super friendly. We love coming here because the service is always amazing and we will continue making this an occasional visit!
This place has always been a favorite. Excellent barbeque, friendly staff and hearty portions. The brisket is well seasoned, tender and will absolutely melt in your mouth! The jalapeno poppers are full of flavor and could actually be a meal all on their own. Everything is done well, from appetizers to entrees and desserts. Reasonably priced and an all around great place to meet up with family or friends when things aren't crazy and a pandemic isn't impacting how we gather. They are handling things well overall with our current situation and taking precautions to ensure a comfortable and safe dining experience. Hands down one of the best places in this area for barbeque!!
My son and I decided to try this place since we received a coupon. This was one of the Best! dinners, atmosphere, and wait staff that I have ever been to. It is very rare that I go to a new restaurant and everything was above and beyond. The ribs here were fall off the bone tender and the barbecue sauce that goes with it was just perfect. The waitress Carina explained the different items that we can get with the coupon whereas we thought it was only one thing. That was such a surprise and was well worth it I got the ribs and chicken and all of it was just delicious tender, and juicy. And without us having to say anything the owner / and or manager Mr Money noticed that the mac and cheese we had was kind of sitting out for a while, and without us saying anything he replaced it immediately with a fresh batch. That is awesome customer service to me. If you are in this area or just passing through it is an absolute must stop and try, it will be worth it. Also the decor and atmosphere inside was beautiful, inviting, and welcoming. Thank you so much, to everyone The cooks, the wait staff, the owner / manager. We will be returning and we will also be telling all our friends.
This was our first time being here and it was amazing! Food was great, customer service was great our waitress was Jenny and she was so nice and funny and we absolutely loved the atmosphere! We will be back! 😀
I go here often. The food is good. The staff is great. The prices are good. the portion sizes are good. The sweet tea is good.
Really good food and service. Amazing bread given with food! I had the 3 meat platter that was with brisket (really good), ham (lean and good but a little salty) and ribs (really good flavor but lacked a little bit in amount of meat on the bone. Overall it was great! We plan on coming back
Food was excellent, perhaps the best BBQ I’ve had, as someone who’s spent very little time in Texas. I got the 2 meat combo: pulled pork and ribs, and sides included beans and Mac n cheese. I was very happy with them, and their house BBQ sauce made it all the more enjoyable. The interior decor was much like a Cabela’s store, which I found interesting.
Excellent BBQ place. I went with some visiting family for the first time and everyone loved their food. Prices are what you would expect for BBQ, nothing low or high, but the food was delicious. Atmosphere was nice as well. We sat indoors but they also have plenty of outdoor seating. We will be going back again!
We hosted a double 50th wedding anniversary for our families (married 1 day apart!) Once I found out about Shady Oak BBQ I gave them a call to set everything up. The GM, Andrew, was super friendly and very helpful along the way. We live in Germany and finalizing the details from far away was seamless. He sent us pictures and helped us decide what was best for our event. We were able to bring our own desserts and decorate the room. The guests had a great time and raved about the food. Our waitress worked really hard and was so sweet. We left the event very pleased with our experience. Thank you again Shady Oak and staff for a memorable event!
Tommy Money let us hold a small engagement party here and went above and beyond! We were able to get a secluded section of the establishment just for us to celebrate our friends. Food was great, service was better, and we were able to make a lasting memory! 10/10 would recommend!
Food is always wholesome and plenty! The Atmosphere is warm and people are always friendly too! Tonight's dessert was Churro Cheesecake. Tasty!!
My family visited the Shady Oak for the first time today. The place is very pretty and clean. Food was amazing, huge portions! But the icing on the cake was the service. Jenny, you are a rockstar! Thank you for the wonderful experience!
I ordered the Texas Combo with fried okra and a side salad — and oh my heavens, what a treat! When I saw the pulled pork came with “Carolina-Style BBQ Sauce,” this Carolina girl was skeptical… but y’all, they absolutely nailed it! 🤩 That tangy mustard-vinegar sauce could hold its own against the best pitmasters in South Carolina — it was that good! The fried okra was golden, crispy perfection, and the side salad was fresh and flavorful. But what really made the meal unforgettable was Jenni, our server. She was an absolute rockstar — warm, friendly, and genuinely seemed to enjoy making sure everyone was happy. I watched her juggling several tables at once, and she never missed a beat! Drinks stayed full, food came out right on time, and she still managed to check in with a smile and make us feel like we were her top priority. That kind of service is rare these days, and she deserves every bit of praise she gets. 🌟 My only complaint? I didn’t save room for the banana pudding — and trust me, I’m still kicking myself for that one!
Had the absolute best experience with all the staff for my grandpa's 100th birthday party!!!🎂 🥳 🎉 We had the back room to ourselves for a few hours. They were kind, helpful, and friendly. We appreciate everyone (waiters, waitresses, ones who sliced & served everything so efficiently, and the guys who helped clean up) who participated in making this an awesome experience!
What cannot I not say about Shady Oaks BBQ. We had my father-in-laws celebration of life here on 2/28. He loved this place. He would go there all the time. We have had multiple family dinners there as well. So it only seemed fitting. They were so kind to help us get the room there. Jenny was our server. So, not only was she attending to our larger, she was attending to regular dinner guests as well. It didn’t even seem like she was attending other tables. She kept up with all of our drink orders, refills/going to the bar to get new alcoholic drinks, and everyone’s food orders (which were all correct and it tasted great). Can I also mention that all of the food for our larger group came out at the same time and all were hot and cooked to perfection. We brought a projector to play a slide show. I totally forgot the projection sheet. Ugh. She came up with multiple ideas to help us. She got this guy who went by T-money, director of customer relations, they found a big piece of plywood, and a turned around one of there posters in the back (so it was a big white flat piece), set it up for us, so we could see my late father-in-laws slide show. Additionally, all of the attendees HAD SEPARATE TICKETS and no one’s tickets were messed up! She was so kind, helpful, efficient, friendly, personable, sensitive to the matter of our gathering, attentive, bubbly, and just amazing. I thanked her many times but man. This girls needs a $3 raise and a promotion. If she is like that with total strangers, she must be a wonderful person in general. Please, I would love if this got sent to corporate and anyone to contact me. 10/10 experience.
My daughter had my 80th birthday party at Shady Oaks today. They did a excellent job.We had around 40 people there and our server Jenny never missed a beat. She and Manager ( Tommy) took care of everything. I would reccomend them any time.
Tonight we were served by Tommy and Jenny and they were FANTASTIC! We couldn’t have asked for better service to celebrate with. They are both great servers and took great care of us all night. I’ll be asking for them when we are back!
Just tried this place and we thought it was great. We didn't even use the bbq sauce if that tells you anything.. The pulled pork and ribs were spot on. Our waitress Jenny was super nice and attentive. Great job we will be back.
Full-on 5-Star. GM-Aaron has his crew on point and tailored to you. We came in close to closing, due to traveling all day, had a request for the team regarding out order, and they all came together to make it happen. I don't like fat-AT ALL. Yes Aaron, I'm back. :) It was also a take-away order. Everyone made us feel very appreciated and they worked to make sure our experience was next level - AND THE FOOD DEFINITELY MADE US HAPPY WE DECIDED TO STOP IN.
Loved this place passed by for a quick grab from Houston heading to Colorado for vacation and it’s pretty inside and out thank you to my server Jenni she was really funny and made me feel welcomed the food was also really good ! Will be passing back on my way back from Colorado I got jalapeño poppers & a baked potato , my husband got the 2 meat combo with cole slaw & potato salad on the side my daughter got macaroni with Fries on the side and the bread was super soft ! Loved everything ! Margs are really good too
My husband came in About an hour before close on 12/7. The folks working were so sweet and attentive and the food was amazing as always. Because of our schedule we have to come a little closer to close than we’d typically like but they’re always so sweet about it!
Let me start by saying my family and I have always liked shady oak BBQ but after Tuesday night hands down the best of the best I can't say enough good things or give enough stars for what a great evening we had. Jenny was our server and she was phenomenal it was our son's 6th Birthday and he had the biggest smile on his face when we left. Andrew I believe he was the manager I think, when I say he and Jenny went above and beyond to give us the best service they literally did just that. If you're looking for a great barbecue place with great barbecue great atmosphere and great employees and service this is your place. Shady oak BBQ and grill will forever be our barbecue place. Thank you so much for great evening guys!👏👏👏♥️👍
Went to Shady Oaks for lunch with coworkers and was pleasantly surprised! Not only was the waitress the fastest waitress in the west, but she was super friendly and welcoming. The bread is massive, and if you have a group, you have to go through cutting it, which is new to me. I do wish they were more personal sized. The food was delicious, though. I'll definitely be back!
First time at Shady Oak. Amazing service experience and great food. The server and the young man that brought out our food provided "Legendary" guest service. I was thoroughly impressed. Our waitress was kind and quick. The man that brought our food out noticed that out mac and cheese looked a bit dry and took it upon himself to bring out fresh sides. The bread was another surprise. Couldnt stop eating it. We ordered three meat plates and it was worth it to try the different meats. We will be back soon! Great job, Shady Oak!
Best BBQ I’ve ever had in the south. Highly recommend. We ordered two meat and three meat combo. Juicy, soft and tender briskets that melted in your mouth. Sausage was flavorful but not too fat or salty. The BBQ sauce was not strong, and you can taste the freshness of the meat. We love it! Sever(I think her name is Emily) is very friendly and attentive. Atmosphere was amazing. We saw the smokey joe and wood outside. We also saw staff watching over all the vehicles in the parking lot.

I really like their bbq. I had the brisket, ribs and pulled pork. The bread they served was super good too. I recommend the house margarita on the rocks.
Absolutely loved the environment and the staff. Very relaxed, clean, and staff was there for anything we needed. Will definitely be going back with friends!
Always great BBQ. LOVE the hot bread!!! I highly recommend. live music on the weekends always a plus.

Usually very good ribs. Someone fell asleep while cooking the ribs and forgot to take them off the grill when they were done. They were dry and over cooked.
Nice place. Food is pretty good. Sometimes you have to wait on things like refills and the check for some reason.
Beautiful atmosphere and vibe, and a solid meal. The brisket unfortunately was plain. I don't know how else to say it. You're primed for Texas brisket, literally, your mouth is watering, then you take that first bite and it tastes like it was maybe in a steam tray or something. Aside from that, great sauce, super yummy Texas beans, and fried okra. I'd go again, but it would be a distant choice versus a destination event.
first time order. I ordered a stuffed chopped beef potatoe with spicy beans. A rib and chopped beef plate with apples and cole slaw. And lastly a sliced brisket plate with okra and potatoe salad. Delivered through door dash. My brisket was dry and tough. The spicy beans didnt arrive. The apples were bitter like vinegar. We received one small loaf between the 3 of us. The food was room temperature. Portions were ok but l expected tender beef. Flavor was good just extremely dry.
I have eaten here before and the food was excellent. This time, the baby back ribs were just ok. They didn't have much smoke flavor, were overdone, and had a sauce that just didn't taste right. The corn on the cob, however, was excellent, as was the fried okra. We had an appetizer of onion rings, which were awesome. Maybe it was just a bad batch. We'll go back again as it's a fun place.
Nice rustic BBQ joint with nice outdoor picnic benches for good weather. The restaurant had nice antique Texas motifs and nice lodge-like decor. The waitstaff was fast and courteous. I had the two meat plate. I had sliced brisket and smoked turkey, both of the meats were high quality. For the sides I had corn, fries and mashed potatoes. I also had a unsweet tea for my beverage. I had the blackberry cobbler for dessert, but unfortunately they were out of ice cream. The entire meal was 36.07, a little than I was expecting to pay. The two meat plate was 23, the remainder was from the drink and dessert, so get water and skip the dessert if you can, it wasn't worth the prices, especially since it was lacking the ice cream. Overall glad I tried it, but there are other places like smoke, hutchens, panther, hard 8 blacks, and other joints that annihilate this place, but then again it's way better than Dickey's.
In from out of town and a good friend suggested this place after I mentioned having a taste for barbecue. Ended up trying a three meat sampler plate just to try the ribs and chicken. Overall, the food was pretty good. I did like the ribs the best, but I'd be lying if I said they were the best I've ever had. If the ribs were more tender and came off the bone easier, this would probably be number three on my top 5 list. The sides were great. I really enjoyed the potatoes...kudos for those. This is a very nice place. It's reasonably priced, very large, incredible staff, and a great ambience. Plenty of parking, so you shouldn't have a problem there. If I lived local, I'd frequrnt this spot, when I had that taste for cue.
Through and through pretty good. I would go again with the family. !Bbq sauce. It has a flavor I cannot pinpoint but I loved it. Ribs. Good. Better with the bbq sauce Brisket. Asked for a fatty portion and I got it. It had a good smoky flavor. Pulled pork sandwich. A heavy tasty sandwich ~Sausage. It was alright. Would not get again Cole slaw. It was great. It wasn't heavy on the mayo and seasoned just right. Potato salad. Well done well seasoned side. Cinnamon apples. Not worth it. Fyi. Wait to be seated.
I always order pick up catering from Shady Oak for work. The food is good and hot but if you are ordering for a lunch meeting allot extra time. The last 4 times I've ordered her I have waited an additional 20-30 minutes for my order to be ready. I order days in advance but still it's never on time.
Grain of salt; BBQ on a Monday is not common. The menu is not just BBQ but has a blend of BBQ and burgers. I had the 2 meat plate as brisket and sausage with fries and corn. The brisket was a mix of dry and juicy. The juicy was fork tender and had great bark. The dry was right at the border of crumbly but not. The sausage was okay but a little greasy. Fries were fries, and there were lots. Overall I was happy to have it on a Monday night but do not think I would go on a Fri or Sat.
I'm coming from Ga and this is the 1st BBQ place I went in Texas. I really love the designs with the wood carvings and the pipes used for handles. that was very creative. I really didn't know what to expect, but the service was definitely on point. Everyone was nice and kept checking on us. I really did enjoy my meal. The ranch beans were a new experience for me,but they were definitely good. I tell ya,the sauce on the ribs were definitely amazing with a sweet taste. This place is definitely a must from anyone out of town who is visiting. I definitely left full and satisfied. Keep up the good work.
(Area : Fortworth ) This place was easy to find and the accessibility was good. When I first entered the restaurant, I felt the old-fashioned Texas style. For me, it was not easy to see the menu because the lighting in the room was dim. I came on a friend's recommendation, and 4 people ordered and have the ribs . That was cooked properly and tasted good. There is an outdoor table, so you can use it in summer. There is also a Fossil Creek GOLF course near the restaurant, so it would be nice to come after a workout.
There were 3 in our party, we ordered a 3 meat combo, st louis rib entrée and a chopped brisket sandwhich. Everything was delicious with the exception of the chicken that was dry, the savory rice was dry and not very savory at all and the steamed vegetables were a bit over seasoned. All in all it was a good experience and I would definitely recommend the brisket..it was very very tender and juicy 👍👍 we will be back with hopes they improve on the other items.
We found ourselves in this side of town yesterday while we were out garage selling and decided to give this place a try. The atmosphere of the building and its surroundings are unique to the restaurant world. We chose to eat outside so our Bully Buddy could join us for lunch on the outside covered patio. Other than having to fight off the aggressive flies, it was a nice day. Suggestion for the owners, maybe put some peppermint spray diffusers around your patio seating to reduce the fly problem. Taylor picked the combo meat plate with lean brisket and original sausage. It came with corn on the cob and he picked fries and cinnamon baked apples to go with it. On the recommendation of our server, I picked the fried catfish. It came with fries and I chose the okra and mac and cheese. They bring you freshly made bread rolls that are as big as your hand, delicious and hot. The cook was heavy handed with the seasoning on the fries and the brisket was really dry. Next time we should probably order the moist cut of brisket instead of the lean cut. The bbq sauce was nicely flavored too. The catfish was steaming hot and very good. Our dog Buddy gave it a five bubble review for sure. Definitely a place worth checking out.
Great setting and atmosphere, i showed up right at 11 when they open and was seated. Waitress was super friendly, they provided a allergen menu, it didn’t have everything listed but it had most of the menu! I tried the 3 meat combo and added 2 additional meats after the waitress gave her opinion! Food came out pretty quick, ribs were great. Turkey tasted more like deli meat but was good, ham was just a bit salty, chicken was good, brisket was almost too tender but also good! Overall a good lunch with great service and great allergy awareness!

We shared a 2 meat plate. The portions were quite skimpy. I got all dark chicken, though I didn’t specify. Baked potato was very old and not good. Outstanding bread served. No butter though, it was some whipped yellow stuff.
Ordered Take-out: Brisket meal with fries and potato salad. I was given a choice of lean, marble, or....(can't recall 3rd choice). I chose lean because I was afraid of getting meat with excessive bits if fat. Well, my brisket turned out to be extremely dry....to the point that I had to drown it in bbq sauce and needed to chase it with a drink. The potato salad had zero flavor and was a bit sour tasting. The meal also came with a mini loaf if bread that appeared to be soti led with garlic seasoning. The bread was ok. I could tell it would be better with butter. The atmosphere has a rustic vibe and the outdoor seating is quite appealing.
I loved everything about this place... Except the food. Don't get me wrong it was decent just not great. Maybe brisket isn't their thing, agsin it was good but not the Texas brisket I was hoping for.
Was in town for a wedding and being a brisket guy this place was recommended on Google for best brisket in the area so my wife and I decided to give it ago. Very beautiful establishment and very nice staff. Started out with some burnt ends as an appetizer and boy did that hit a home run off the bat! Very delicious and cooked just right…. High hopes for the main course after that so we chose the 3 meat meal and got brisket, pulled pork and sausage. For sides we got spicy baked beans and steamed veggies. Hate to say but the sausage was the best tasting out of the three we went with. The pulled pork was to wet for my liking and no wet with sauce just watery wet if that makes sense and the brisket was…. Well you see the picture I posted. It was over cooked and tasted like a pot roast brisket. No flavor or smoke ring or good bark. Thinking about BBQ places I’ve tried over the last 14 years the presentation was off. I think the plating for their meals doesn’t fit the BBQ genre in my opinion. Most BBQ places serve it on tray with butcher paper and not fine dining plates. Overall the burnt ends, sausage and the spicy beans were all A+ for me. Everything else was a miss.
This was my first time eating here and I decided to try it for lunch. I ordered the Beef Lunch Special for $16.95 (sliced beef brisket and 2 sides - I chose potato salad and fried okra) and an iced tea ($3.45). The sides were definitely the star of the meal and I really enjoyed them. The brisket however, was some of the driest I've ever had. In my opinion a good brisket shouldn't need sauce. I kept adding sauce hoping it would absorb into the food. The building and atmosphere is really pretty cool. Service was slower than I expected taking about 20 minutes (I was just thinking a lunch special would come out more quickly). It didn't appear extremely busy - but it's very possible they had multiple areas for dining or maybe some larger groups. Maybe I just caught everything on a bad day?

We have been coming here for years. The last 3 times have not been good. The brisket is so dry, I️ asked for marble, it was not. I️ added a bunch of sauce, still so dry. It didn’t have a smoked flavor to me either. The group of us all agreed on these points. We do love the bread, and my husband enjoyed the catfish. The fries were soggy and Mac & cheese cold/hard. It took 45 minutes from the time we ordered to get our food. The waitress was overwhelmed, handling 2/3 large group tables and seemed new. It was Mother’s Day, but she shouldn’t have been handling that many being new. We never got water refills, even after asking several times. We were squeezed in like sardines in the back room. We told her 3 times which orders were on 1 ticket (3 people sitting next to each other) with all the rest on 1 other ticket, she still did it wrong. After waiting about 20 minutes on our ticket, we just paid the incorrect ones to keep from having to wait even longer. It’s too bad this place isn’t as good as it once was.
I'll be blunt why I gave this place two stars. 1) they got one of my orders wrong. I ordered Chicken fried Chicken and I got chicken fried steak. To some people this might be a great deal but not to me. It's not what I ordered. 2) their chocolate cake is $8. It's so expensive for the portion that you get. Check my photos. I have ordered to go from this place a couple of times, but, this last visit is the last time.
My Fiancé and I came here for dinner at around 8:30pm, service was very slow. Took a while before we were greeted; our servers name was Tanisha. We ordered our appetizer as soon as she came to our table for our drink orders and after we ordered our entrees. The appetizer didn’t come until after we were nearly done with our entrees, the manager(I’m assuming because he didn’t make himself known, just came up to us and told us what was going on) came and comped the appetizer and we ended up taking it to go. I ordered the ribs and my fiancé ordered the brisket…I wouldn’t say the bbq here is the best, the Mac and cheese tasted like Kraft the best part was the baked potato…overall I’d say it was okay but not good enough to come back
We could find a place on patio so would consider lucky. Food is average. The menu card states ribs are “seasoned to perfection and slow-smoked, so they’re fall-off-the-bone tender”. No, they were neither tender nor were falling off the bone. Not sure what would the correct time of the day to visit to find that fall off the bone condition. Good barbecue sauce. Our server was nice. The table was not cleaned. It had salt sprinkled over it.
The two hosts were just ridiculous. They were both obviously trying to put the seating of customers off on each other. Would come to the podium look where the other one was then take off. We waited a good 15 mins before the boy looked like he was going to seat us when he realized he was 1 menu short. So another 15 mins later he came back to tell us it would be another 30 mins because they were out of silverware, I asked if they could seat us and we would wait for the silverware he said No you can’t sit without silverware. So these two wasted 30 mins of our life for absolutely nothing. We went across the seat and were seated immediately the waitresses was awesome. So I suggest just go to Chili’s to begin with.
My husband and I recently went here for the first time. We were disappointed with the flavor of the food,, but the quantity of food was plentiful and we would give that a five 5️⃣. I ordered the turkey, which was nice and moist, and I would give that a 3 1/2 or four 4️⃣, but my other sides weren’t as desirable. I actually ordered two coleslaws as I was told they served a sweet coleslaw, but they tasted like globs of mayonnaise to me when I tried to eat it. I actually sent one of them back and asked for something else. I did get the corn 🌽 on the cob and it was OK, it was very average. It was definitely edible. They brought me the mashed potatoes which I didn’t want, but they had a decent flavor. There was a large portion of it and that side was good sized too. We ordered onion rings as an appetizer and with ketchup, we really liked those the best. We would give those a four 4️⃣. We were not too keen on the 🍞 because it had a garlic seasoning on it (or tasted like it) and we just weren’t expecting that with BBQ. But had it been a regular warm bread, it would have been wonderful. My husband had ribs, pulled pork, and smoked sausage and he would give it a two 2️⃣. He said it seemed to be overcooked and somewhat mushy with a bit of an odd flavor. His macaroni and cheese was his favorite side and he enjoyed it. Our waitress was nice and accommodating. Overall, we would give our experience there a two 2️⃣ and we don’t think we’d ever choose to go there again.
I usually get this place to go and it’s always good, our favorite is the bread. My family and I were grilling and decided to pick up 6 loaves of bread along with some fried okra. When I got home and we started eating the bread, I bit into a completely raw piece. Looked at the rest of the loaves and half of them were completely raw dough in the middle. I called to let them know and the girl who I spoke to assured me they cook them 100%. I told her if I could FaceTime her, I would so I can show her that 3/6 loaves were completely raw in the middle. She told me again, “I’m sorry ma’am, but our bread is fully cooked.” I just hung up. I never really call places if food is missing or wrong because I know people make mistakes, but I was a little frustrated that when I did call to let them know, she just kept saying that it was cooked all the way when it clearly wasn’t.

We were celebrating my mother-in-law's birthday 🎂. We were not impressed at all by the food and service received. Started off with no waitress. One of the other waitresses saw us waiting and told us that they were waiting for our waitress to arrive. She also let us know that all the ribs were done for the night. Why she couldn't have just waited on us, no idea. So no one thought to take our order until she got there. So we just got to wait at the table. Then, a couple of food items we tried to order they didn't have in stock.. no chicken.. no mashpotatoes. The excuse given was, " It was a really busy day for us." I don't doubt that, but it wasn't busy while we were there. The bread came out first. It was served in a bag and was hot. That was great, except no knife was provided to cut it. So we had to try to rip it until the waitress came back & we brought it to her attention that we needed one. Food was served on huge plates with barely any food on them. One of the combo plates that was supposed to have corn was missing from the plate. No attention to detail. They tried to make it right by giving us blackberry & peach cobbler. That was a very nice gesture and much appreciated, but it was nothing to write home about. I'm sure this place is great but it wasn't for us. We won't be back.
THIS IS THE WORST BARBECUE PLACE EVER !!! The food was burnt , cold , I felt sick after eating here and the waitress was very rude. It took about 20 minutes at least just for my food to come out. And it was cold and burnt afterwards. The waitress was rude didn’t pay any attention to me , didn’t ask about drink refills or anything. I was rushed to eat , and leave. I felt very uncomfortable in here. The door was so tough it was hardly edible!!! The food had no flavor at all, it was a waste of my money I wish I could get a refund. Food was hardly edible I only ate it because I was starving. This place is a huge let down and disappointment with rude staff and a bad environment! It’s hard to breathe in the building as well ! Any other barbecue place is better , I’m not sure how they have good reviews because you will waste your money here !!! This place sucks !!! Avoid !!! You will waste your money !!! Do not come here !!!
What in the dry shoe leather in hot Texas sun is this? We ordered takeout consisting of brisket, pork ribs, potato, and corn. The brisket was clearly dry. So dry it shattered. How dry must a fatty piece of meat be to SHATTER?! Not tear and melt. Friggin shatter. Pork ribs should not have a hard consistency of jerky. And the potato? CLEAN YOUR POTATOES! The amount of dirt that came off the potato after just one quick swipe with a napkin made it undesirable. Whomever packed the potato also didn't bother putting lids on the fixins. Never again. How this place gets high ratings, I'll never know.
My wife and ii placed an order to go. Prior to placing my order i asked the young lady taking orders if the meat was actually smoked or baked in an oven. She told me she did not know…. I thought to myself she should be able to answer this simple question…. But i was tired and decided to take a chance…. I wish i would have walked out because the meat, ribs and brisket was horrible…. Cooked in an oven a few weeks ago….. it was not fit for human consumption…. My advice don’t go there…. They are not a bbq restaurant… the best item on the menu is the bbq sauce.
My family and I are from Illinois and came here when we were in town visiting family and we saw that the place had good reviews. We had just gotten out of the airport and were starving. We wanted to eat some local barbeque and saw that Shady Oak had thousands of reviews and a great rating. I will say that the first thing I noticed is that the atmosphere is lovely, I could imagine great events going on here, and I can imagine that the outside can be a lovely place to hang out or eat with family and friends during nice weather. I enjoyed seeing the festive holiday decorations. The service was also acceptable and they were very kind and when they sent us a small batch of onion rings, they came back saying those were not done by the veteran in the back so they would get us a better batch. Well the 'special' order of onion rings, we could not eat them. They were honestly the worst onion rings any of us had ever had. When the other food came to us we all thought it tasted bad except my one son ate ribs and said they were ok. I thought I was going to get fresh barbeque, Nope. It was a general consensus that the food was pre cooked, frozen and thawed out or previously made and sitting in a container and heated up. It was disgusting. I do not know where the good reviews came from, as the food was horrible, absolutely horrible. I rarely write bad reviews like this for food, but I can not lie. If I knew that the food was this bad we obviously would not have gone here, and the place looked very cute, but no one was in the restaurant. It makes me wonder where the good reviews came from. It is sad to say, maybe this place once used to be popular and with fresh food, but not anymore.
