IL Gabbiano is seriously good Italian. I highly highly recommend coming here for some of the best food in Cranford! We had the broccoli rabe to start and for mains we had the snapper with shrimp on a bed of parmesan risotto. It was to die for. You are allowed to being your own wine to the restaurant which we did. The menu has so many Italian classics to choose from! Get here asap for an incredible meal.

We had a very delicious dinner here. As the previous reviews stated, the wait staff was amazing. They were not too pushy, and very friendly and very attentive. “Katrina”, our waitress, exemplified that. We’ve been here about 20 times before over the last 12 years and we’ll return again. I was pleasantly surprised to see the seafood linguine was full of fresh seafood- actually more seafood than pasta! The chicken piccata was also very good. And BYOB is always nice.

We went to dinner there many times and had a great experience, but most recently we went for Mother's Day weekend, which you know is crazy busy. They tended to our table and made sure we had water, bread, salad, etc. On time, and even catered to one of my "change of menu" requests perfectly. I was so satisfied I wanted to cry. They are truly a gem in the area. Btw I was craving vodka sauce and Veal, but it wasn't on the menu so I asked if they could do it and they said 'no problem'

I had a wonderful birthday dinner at Il Gabbiano and was able to snap a few pictures before it filled up with guests! This is a hidden gem, and a real favorite. The staff is super attentive, the food is outstanding, and the atmosphere is warm and friendly! BYOB too! I highly recommend!

The food and service were excellent! My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary and the staff added some special touches to make it special. Had the broiled Salmon and shrimp which melted in my mouth. Delicious.

Had Christmas dinner there as we have been doing for the last few years. Overall, food was good, service was good but needed more training, and a little disorganized. I want to point out 2 things to the chef that would have elevated the experience to 5 stars. 1. Give better bread and butter presentation. ( 1 small roll and 2 butter for 6 people? ). 2. Cook the steak better. got rare for medium. Otherwise, it was good.

We ordered Mama Mia Pasta, Meatballs and Linguini and Steak Old Fashion. Everything tasted ok, but nothing spectacular. I wish the pasta had been homemade, but alas you could tell they were from a box. Service was fast and friendly.

We hosted a lovely party here this weekend. When we booked this event, the indoor room was already booked but we were told the tent outside was available. We looked up some reviews and decided the tent would fine in early May, even if it was raining or chilly since it has the capacity to be enclosed and there are heaters. We were not expecting the restaurant to book another event in the tent that would be scheduled to end only 30 minutes prior to the start of our 50 person party. When my husband dropped off our cake in the morning and heard about this earlier party, he asked the staff if they would be ready at 2:00, especially because we were coming from a baptism ceremony and knew we would be timely! I was very disappointed to learn that as my guests began arriving at 2:00 on a rainy Sunday afternoon, the tent was still filled with diners from the previous party. I was totally embarrassed to see my older relatives standing outside in the rain at the time that my party was to begin! Once we got in the tent and situated, the party itself was nice, the food was good, and the waitstaff was attentive. At the end of our party, I asked the hostess if we would receive a discount since my guests spent almost the first 30 minutes of my event in the rain. I was told that the event coordinator had “clocked it” at 15 minutes, this is the norm for the restaurant business, and since he “provided excellent service during that time” there was no discount or apologies to be provided. This was so disappointing to me as my growing family is new to the area and we were so excited to find what we thought would be our go-to place for hosting events! Unfortunately after this experience we won’t be able to host our family here anymore in fear of a repeat incident. Overall - the restaurant was a nice spot for an event, but I would recommend that you are cautious about start time and consider warning your guests to wait in their cars until they are sure the room is ready!

I decided that this was the restaurant that I wanted to try for Mother’s Day. We made reservations the day before. Upon arrival we were seated in a timely manner. The service was friendly. Because it was Mothers Day, they had an abbreviated menu, I was somewhat disappointed, but made due. I didn’t drink or order an appetizer but we enjoyed a Caesar salad & bread. As for the main course, we both agreed our food was bland and lacked taste, due to inadequate seasoning. Although my son paid, I will say that the restaurant was reasonably priced, too bad I didn’t fully enjoy it.
