My wife and I, attracted by word of mouth and what we saw on the web, decided to try this restaurant for the first time. Located in a quiet area of Gallarate, easy parking on the street, the location immediately strikes you, a beautiful villa where you ring the bell to access the restaurant: Andrea, the owner together with his wife Lara (the Chef), opens the door for us. Few seats, decidedly tasteful furnishings, particular and original tables. We opt for the 7-course tasting menu with 7 glasses of wine pairing. Andrea guides us through the evening with savoir faire, plays the role of maitre and sommelier and we are immediately struck by the love with which he enhances his wife's skills in the kitchen in each dish. Speaking of wines, the cellar is well stocked with very interesting labels, and as a passionate connoisseur of the subject I must say that we were definitely satisfied with the pairings proposed by Andrea, all spot on. Let's move on to the food: the baked goods offered at the beginning are without a doubt the best we have ever eaten, we will then discover that Chef Lara comes from a family of bakers and this origin is clearly felt. The menu winds between the Sicilian roots of the Chef and strong Spanish and oriental influences, the balance of the dishes is always taken care of with precision and umami reigns supreme. The cooking techniques used are many but do not become the protagonists of the dishes, the raw materials are chosen and treated with care and attention. Andrea gives us the choice between finishing the dinner with a dessert or with the cheese trolley: we opt for the latter and find some real gems, here too we can see the research to offer customers something special. At the end of the evening we have the pleasure of having a chat with Chef Lara and she proves to be a special person like her dishes. The price is commensurate with the place, the raw materials, the skill of the Chef and the attention to every detail. The cuisine has nothing to envy to other restaurants that we have tried and that have then taken the star. A wonderful discovery, we will return without a shadow of a doubt.
I just finished a spectacular dinner with my partner at Chef Lara and her husband Andre's "home." I say "home" because despite the very high quality of the cuisine, the welcome and the atmosphere are both relaxed and elegant. It was very pleasant. We chose the seven-course menu: challenging but definitely enjoyable! The satisfaction of tasting the dish was immediately followed by curiosity and the desire to try the next one! There is a refined and sophisticated reference to the chef's homeland, combined with her travels and passion. There is a wealth of technique and sophistication, a true journey through flavors, at times unexpected, full, strong, enveloping, expertly balanced. A true gem just steps from home, I will definitely return and highly recommend it. The prices are decidedly low considering the standard.
Wood Restaurant, located in an Art Nouveau villa furnished in a minimalist style in shades of black and white, brings Mediterranean cuisine to Gallarate (VA). A close-knit couple, Lara in the kitchen and Andrea in the dining room, have established a strong connection with the local area, even though their identity is clear from the start: Lara's Sicilian roots (the Aeolian Islands, to be precise) and her love for the Iberian Peninsula are evident. She is very determined, with a strong personality that is reflected in the dishes. And so, you're greeted with an amuse bouche of fake tomatoes stuffed with pane cunzato and a leaf of Cuban oregano. Sour and balsamic! The sea is savored in the spaghetti with mussels and dill. Here, the enthusiasm stabilizes and continues straight to the main course, reaching peaks of memorable deliciousness. Roasted croba: a firm, moist fish with a sweet, delicate flavor, wrapped in a dill-infused Chardonnay sauce whose only flaw is that you'll always want more. The tempura eggplant adds crunch and fattiness to the dish. Breathtaking! 😱 A must-see is the selection of cheeses from around the world (not shown in the reel): 36-month-aged Parmigiano, Podolico, 30-month-old alpine Robiola from Tortona, raclette with mustard to achieve the highest levels of bitterness, and Spanish Cabrales. Dessert is a true indulgence: a tartlet made of prickly pears, white chocolate namelaka, orange, and cinnamon. The dining room is perfectly managed by Andrea. With elegance and grace, he transports and narrates this journey through the flavors of lands far removed from his native Mantua in terms of customs and traditions. The way he manages to establish a symbiosis with his clientele is an example of grace and refinement, which I would define as the distinctive traits of this restaurant worth taking note of.
We had an hour for lunch....In that time, they prepared a five-star meal for us, including dessert. Excellent food, refined dishes expertly prepared by the chef's expert hands, beautifully plated. Excellent service, excellent wine list, and the final bill was fair in every way. Highly recommended!!
We had lunch at Wood yesterday for a five-course tasting menu and wine pairing. It was a wonderful experience!! We were struck by the hospitality, kindness, and care with which each dish was prepared and presented. It was a wonderful sensory and taste experience, one we will definitely repeat.
During a business dinner and financial presentation, I had the opportunity to sample the meat dishes paired with wine. The staff was extremely courteous and eager to accommodate any request. The service was prompt, and the premises were very clean, as required by HACCP. I'll be back again. I truly enjoyed my stay, and as a professional in the industry, I highly recommend it to everyone. BRAVISSI!
We found it almost by accident; the location is very elegant and the staff is friendly. We chose the seven-course menu with wine pairings. Everything was delicious, and the preparations surprised us. There's a meticulous attention to detail in the ingredients and pairings that showcase the local area. We'll definitely be back! The photo shows the "spleen sandwich," which immediately reminded me of Palermo and the Vucciria! Everything was beautiful.
An excellent gastronomic experience. I spent a wonderful evening with friends dining at this restaurant, which has a very fresh and delicate atmosphere, and above all, is not overly cluttered. The entrées were presented on truly elegant and unique plates, and I was particularly impressed by the variety of flavors. I then decided on a barbecued ossobuco (delicious) and a Calmarata, which had the virtue of "tasting of the sea." Finally, the desserts are varied, stunning, and delicious, just like the small pastries served with coffee.
A delicious restaurant! I gave my boyfriend a surprise dinner as a gift: a tasting menu. A true journey through traditional and oriental flavors! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. The head waiter was present throughout the dinner but never intrusive! A small restaurant run with great passion. I highly recommend it for a dinner with couples 💕
Excellent! For all the senses! Great, intimate atmosphere. We started with homemade bread, hand-rolled breadsticks, cheese chips, focaccia, and delicious onion bread, with an entree of mussels breaded with Tabasco sauce: a DELICIOUS! And a small Fassona beef burger. All served with care and attention. The crudités were a journey of flavors accompanied by DOC sauces. Then we had the delicious and delicate tuna with cavolo nero and a delicious mixed fry. We finished with dessert: an explosion of flavors! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED; reservations are required! I've attached a photo of the dessert, what a treat! What a presentation!!! The staff were excellent and very professional.
Excellent welcome in an elegant little place. Sober and clean, I went for a business lunch. I ate very well. The timing was standard for a restaurant, but not for a business lunch. Luckily, I wasn't in a rush. I definitely recommend going there in the evening to taste the dishes and understand the type of service. Since I had a good time at lunchtime, I definitely expect something more in the evening.
This was our first experience at your restaurant. The atmosphere was very quiet and elegant, with minimal yet tasteful decor (many places have been opting for this style of decor lately, which, honestly, I really like). The service was good, and the dishes prepared by the chef were equally delicious. We were immediately drawn to the seven-course menu with a wine pairing, allowing ourselves to be pampered and surprised by the staff on both sides, and we were pleasantly satisfied. Congratulations to you and goodbye 👍🏻
A high-quality culinary experience in Gallarate in a very intimate setting, albeit with a few flaws. Dinner for six on a Friday night; we ordered the full tasting menu for the entire table. Since one person didn't eat fruit, they offered to adapt some dishes. Among the various courses, some were phenomenal (olive overture, marrow with Wagyu), and only one was a disappointment for me (lentils with mussels and sea snails, too salty and strong to overpower the other flavors). The rest were all very good, though not unforgettable. The wine list was extensive, with a wide selection of French and Italian wines. Six full tasting menus and two bottles of wine for a bill of €700. The restaurant is small, allowing for very attentive and precise service. It's called Wood, and all the ceramics are shaped like wood and logs. My only gripes are that the stove was turned off toward the end of the evening, even though we still had a couple of courses left, making the atmosphere very cold very quickly. And the fact that the sommelier bumped my head with his elbow three times during the evening, even though I wasn't leaning back or in the middle of the aisle. These are minor gripes, but for a restaurant that aims to be high-end, they're hard to overlook. I'd happily return, though! If you found this review helpful, give it a thumbs-up ;)
I'll start by saying that I didn't give it a very high rating not because of any problems I encountered during dinner, but because the type of place and cuisine aren't my cup of tea. A very beautiful location, and a highly curated and sophisticated menu. The dishes were well-cooked and beautifully presented, and the courtesy was top-notch. However, I realized that there was too much of what was offered for my tastes.
A strange experience. The place doesn't show off its character; upon arrival, the curtains were drawn, and we wondered if we were in the right place. There were only a few tables, and those at the head of the table were uncomfortable, given the large gaps in the shorter side of the designer table. They were the only customers that evening. The food was good, but if you know how to cook, you won't find anything exceptional. The wine list was "extensive," with very high prices. Coffee was served with "spoon" sugar. They made a mistake, putting salt instead of sugar (and that's understandable), but no apology, rather, it was almost as if we, the customers, were the ones bothering them with this complaint. The coffees were charged, and only one amaro was offered (a small quantity). The reservation, made through The Fork, was immediately cancelled upon our departure. I'm starting to suspect that the high number of positive reviews was manipulated in this way... (i.e., by cancelling the reservations of those who might have had something to say about them...)
