After walking down a half mile of various pubs and restaurants with very similar menus, we paused at Kirby's. While reading the menu posted on the window, the group at the table on the other side of the glass looks at us and eagerly gives us a thumbs up and mouthing "Soo good". We decide to go in and the table immediately starts telling us how delicious it is and we should definitely eat here. AND BOY WERE THEY RIGHT!! DELICIOUS!! The brioche goat cheese appetizer was incredible and I ate every bite. The 10 oz sirloin was perfectly cooked. So thank you to the random group for the recommendation! I'm passing on the great review!!
Easily the best place for me in Galway. Excellent, tasty food, served to delight visually by an attentive bunch of people in a classy setting. From its rather unassuming exterior, it’s difficult to predict what delights lie within. This place is a must-do in Galway. Goat cheese 3 ways was amazing as indeed was the main course which had fantastic meats and the desserts were truly fantastic. Absolutely nothing to complain..I had a great time and will strongly recommend it if you want a relaxed exquisite meal.
Excellent location in a very busy street. Good to take a seat outside the restaurant to see the movement when the weather is good. The staff was perfect and very attentive. The food was amazing and the pictures are not able to show how delicious all was. Excellent experience! Recommended.
What a fantastic hidden gem, just off the Latin Quarter of Galway. Beautiful setting, lovely decor, great seating, friendly people, awesome food. Seriously, you have to eat here. I had the seafood platter, and of our group was gluten intolerant - no problem, they sorted it easily. Such a great night out.
The food is extremely good, everyone in my party was very happy with it. Highly recommend the chicken breast with filling and The lamb! The only really negative is that the waitresses seemed very unknowledgeable about certain options but we pegged that to them being new maybe Booked this place for 12 people - they were very helpful and even when a mistake was made (booking day), it was immediately corrected. Highly recommended to check out the food!
Had fabulous meal excellent menu choice and all our group was impressed, paired with excellent service - will be back. No additional costs for sides and great wine list.
Went here for our anniversary. Food, service and atmosphere was excellent. Highly recommended.
Smiling and polite staff! The order was brought quickly. We enjoyed the food. Prosecco, coffee, cheesecake, salad, chowder, burger with potatoes - everything was very tasty.
Great dinner in a relaxing environment. A bit calmer after some evenings at busy bars. We loved the food, a delicious, tasty Indian dish. Large portions, great value.
One of those spontaneous choices that turned out to be absolutely delightful. We had no booking and the place was buzzing, but luckily, we got a table for three. The triple trio seafood was full of flavour, and the lemon butter sauce added just the right touch. The lamb steak was beautifully done—so juicy and tender. The vegetables were fresh and full of taste, not just on the plate for show. Our son’s cod and chips were golden and crisp, and he enjoyed every bite. We really loved the whole experience. Next time we are in Galway, this will definitely be our go-to spot for dinner.
Excellent restaurant. We had a group of 8 people. Service was very good and food was excellent. Very good atmosphere in the heart of Galway.
Top quality. Went there with 3 lads, great cocktails, decent wine selection, steak was superb. We were pretty loud but plenty of other groups in there were as noisey as us so it wasn't a problem. Would 100% recommend for groups
Food was great, service was slow. Mood was mellow in here which was actually what I was looking for in a meal. Recommend!
Colette was on duty she gets a 5 star review. The food was 5 star and reasonably priced. Check the place out and don't believe the negative reviews.
Best food we've had in Ireland so far. I could have the goat cheese everyday forever. Lovely staff, beautiful restaurant, great music. Wish we had more time as I'd absolutely go back.
Ate here as a family of 4. Got the goat cheese starter and everyone got something different for dinner and each was great - lamb special, sea bass with crab risotto, stuffed chicken, and spiced chicken tikka. All of the plates were throughly enjoyed.
Love this place good food quick friendly service and wonderful desserts especially the trifle they also have an after eight cocktail perfection.
We went on a dinner date here. I love their food. The ambience is nice. They have decent meal, liquor and dessert options to choose from and the staff is really nice and friendly. This has become my go-to place now.
We had a recent University reunion here & Kirbys was the perfect location! A big thanks to Niamh & all the staff for accommodating us. Highly recommend!
I booked kirbys for lunch for a hen party and it did not disappoint. The waitresses were very friendly and our order was taken very promptly. There was something to suit everybody. The food that came out was perfect and ideal for a very hungry group. I would definitely recommend this place for anyone looking for some good food with friendly service.
Loved this restaurant. Food was excellent. Acoustics a bit loud, next time would request a table upstairs 😀
I had the beef and guiness stew and it was the best meal of my entire vacation in Galway and Dublin 🙌 The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere and after your meal you can go to the bar section and enjoy the rest of your drinks which was perfect. I highly recommend Kirbys
Food is fab and really tasty. Duck was one of the best we've tasted!
Delicious food. The fish was cooked perfectly. Super friendly and helpful service.
Excellent dining experience at this restaurant, we were a group of 8 and all of us with varying dietary requirements but the options were fantastic and everyone was very happy with their food.
Day trip to Galway on a rainy Sunday… We found Kirby’s due to its good reviews on here - good to know the process works. Being located just off the main thoroughfare we were concerned it could be packed. However, we discovered the restaurant side of the venue was surprisingly not so busy. Decisions quickly made we settled on a high top table with a good vantage point to watch the comings and goings of Galway. My chums ordered pints of ‘The Black Stuff’ and the beef and Guinness slow cooked stew - after all we are in Ireland. Whilst I opted for a veggie option of chickpea burger and ‘secret sauce’ ! Although looking back I’m sure they needn’t be that secretive ;-) . The stew and the Guinness were triumphant!!! Consumed in silence - always a good sign! My burger was… well a veggie burger albeit well cooked could have done with a little more of a kick plus the serve of fries we thought a little meagre. On our departure we discovered a lovely band had begun to play on the other side of the bar and some guests started to dance, seemed like a superlative way to enjoy the rainy afternoon. The team are super friendly and obliging although the gents toilet could do with a good scour and a little love. Contented we headed back out into Galway ready for the afternoon’s adventures. Thank you
Very good overall. Good music in one room but very loud. We sat inside front door away from the music so easier to hear. Friendly staff.
Beautiful place! Very close to the main street. It was empty during lunch, and we loved that. We ordered the sandwich of the day and rib eye burger! The only issue we found was that the burger was well done. Other than that, it was a lovely experience. I really recommend it 👌!
Starters and mains were excellent and portions are generous. It was quiet on the night we dined here so ambience was lacking. Service was efficient but cold, very little engagement with diners.
Vegan food was top notch and deserves a 5/5. Caesar salad was great also 4/5. But they forgot about my partners drink though had to go back and ask for it as no one was checking on the outside seating area and finished most of the meal before it came. Laura & Michael
I do not recommend to eat here. We went there last night and spent 65.20. Honestly the worst food we have had. The fish and chips were nothing shown in pictures from a year ago or even a few months. It was incredibly dry and NOT beer battered. It was 20euros and the average on the street seem to be about 17euros. I so regret going her. My partner had the beef burger and the same, tasteless, dry and just really bad. The service was good and friendly.
I had the seafood trio which included sea bass, salmon, and tiger prawns. The portion of the sea bass and salmon was good but the tiger prawns just seemed like they were frozen shrimp. Service was incredibly slow and the server didn't put in one of our entree orders. Overall, I thought the meal was just ok.
Food is OK. Our waitress was nice, but I could feel that she hasn't been 100% sincere with the order suggestion. Due to the rush to close the kitchen, I suspect that she has suggested what was more convenient for the staff. The meal that I've ordered for two adults was not enough. As soon as the meal arrived - a cold seafood platter, not involving hot cooking - I tried to order another one of the same. Too late...
Food was great, cocktails definitely need some work though. Staff was very friendly, just also inattentive. Had to wave our waitress down multiple times as she talked to other staff members for simple things like waters to be filled at the table and forgotten orders with dinner. Overall, good experience and great food!
A fine standard of Food, well prepped, not to be faulted. Bit the toilets, which I appreciate are attached to the bar, could only be described as Manky. Disgusting, uncleaned, and worn surfaces. Cost you 2 stars. Otherwise a fine restaurant.
Perhaps it was the night we went, but the service was not too good. It was a busy night and booked out when our party arrived. The food was OK, but the service was too slow and ordering drinks outside of the bottle of wine ordered with the dinner was a nightmare!! The management should also look to the doorstaff that they hire as this particular bouncer/covid vaccine checker was rude beyond believe to everyone coming in or out of the main door of the restaurant all night For these reasons i'd be slow to recommend or return unfortunately!
Ate here last night because I was excited to try gluten free fish and chips and oysters. Food took over an hour because the kitchen was backed up, so I truly believe they forgot to serve it to me gluten free. I have had GI distress, chills, nausea since. Wouldn’t recommend for anyone gluten free. and if it wasn’t the gluten it was definitely the oysters. My boyfriend feels fine but this has put a damper on our trip here.
After 20 minutes I was sitting out waiting for someone to pick up my order I couldn’t eat… bad service. The place was moreover almost empty
Fish was overcooked & inedible. We couldn't get the attention of our waitress. When we did she said she would send someone else over. They never came. When she brought us the check, we complained again. She finally brought over someone else that informed us that it was too late. We asked for the manager, he came over & proceeded to argue with us & "how was he supposed to pay his staff"? We were never offered a replacement dish, let alone an apology. There are too many other excellent restaurants in Galway. Restaurants that actually treat customers with respect & serve good food. Anyone can get an overcooked meal occasionally - but to be treated poorly & still not have dinner is not acceptable. If you are that miserable, you should not be in the customer service industry. If you need the few dollars that bad, I hope it's worth it. We let everyone know where not to eat (Including the at our Hotel -from Manager to desk staff & doorman) & everyone that we met . We will be back in Galway again, as we come often & will make better choices in the future. BEWARE! STAFF IS CONDESCENDING & RUDE & FOOD IS INEDIBLE.
If I could rate this place a zero I would. We went in there to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We were trying to order the drink of the day that had egg in it. I am allergic to egg and asked for mine to be made without. They flat out refused. I then explained it was an allergy and they still refused. The egg adds a froth to the drink and serves no other purpose. So it should be very easy to avoid adding. We were so disgusted we left. Avoid this place as they are not accommodating at all.
Went for a birthday dinner. My wife is allergic to eggs and asked for their feature drink without any egg. The refused to accommodate her allergy. Terrible service. We left without getting dinner.
