My wife and I recently met a party of six at Cafe Italia for dinner. We arrived a little early and headed to the bar for cocktails while we waited. The bartender wasn’t exactly warm — no smile — but she did get our drinks, and they were fantastic. Once our group arrived, we were escorted to a comfortable seating area tucked around the back to the right. It was a great setup for six people, offering just enough separation to feel relaxed while still being part of the lively atmosphere. As the evening progressed, the restaurant became incredibly busy — and understandably loud. Despite the crowd, our servers handled everything well. Service overall was strong, though it did take quite a while to wrap up the evening. We were there for over two and a half hours. The food, however, made it worthwhile. Our table ordered a mix of Italian specialties and steaks. The steaks were cooked perfectly to temperature, the sauces were well-prepared, and every dish that came out was excellent. Cafe Italia clearly knows its way around both classic Italian fare and a properly cooked steak. All in all, a very good dining experience with outstanding food, solid service, and an energetic (if somewhat noisy) atmosphere when the house is full.
Always delicious Italian food and beautiful tradition by the Romeo family for over 50 years! I think that says it all!
Had a great Valentine’s Day dinner on Friday. The gnocchi Gorgonzola was a great start and the Luciana and the steak with lobster, artichokes, and sherry cream sauce entrees were incredible. Service was great even tho they were busy. We were in and out in about an hour. Can’t wait to go back and have the other 10 things we couldn’t decide over. Thank you Maria for your incredible hospitality.
Food was quite good and service was prompt, friendly, and accurate (despite it being a packed house on a Saturday night). Portions were generous and delicious, with leftovers for the next day, typical of Capitaland Italian cuisine. Wine list wasn't vast, but covered all of the bases, and not too pricey. Will definitely go back again.
In my life I have eaten at many a restaurant. Tonight I experienced the pinnacle of service food and atmosphere. The food was truly wonderful and filling and delicious. The service was absolutely astonishing. Never have I experienced the attentiveness of the staff and management . I never had to ask for anything. When a plate was finished it was removed within seconds. My tea never got empty and the pride the staff had was incredible. I wished there was a spot for more stars. I have experienced the best service and food I have had in my 55 yrs of life. Thank you caffe Italia I will be back many times
1st time and loved it. Hostess was sweet. Servers were fantastic. Food was awesome. Had Sea Bass Francese and was close to the best sea bass I've had. Wife got veal francese and only complaint was side pasta came with marinara and she thought it was going to be under the veal. Don't mind loud in a restaurant but this was really loud. Do like the decor, and it has a warm feeling. Will go back for sure.
The return to Caffeine Italia is always like coming home. Been a CI fan for many years starting back at the place on Central Ave. You always see friends and a big hello from Mike, Maria and many others. The old place was a real NYC Italian restaurant. Now they have tried to bring that vibe to the suburbs. There is now more parking, more tables, but it is still difficult to get a reservation for tonight! The food is still expertly crafted by Chef Paul with his capable sous chefs. The veal chop is a real winner, but don’t forget the Dugan or the chicken Scapiello that I had most recently. The salad that comes with your dinner is always crisp greens with a few cherry tomatoes. It is well tossed in the dressing ( my favorite is the Gorgonzola). With the added space and more tables, it is often difficult to hold a conversation. To me that is the only drawback. The service, the food - Outstanding.
Very busy restaurant. Food was excellent. They have a very good wine list. Service was attentive for such a busy night. It is noisy. Reservations for the dining room are a must. We luckily got a table in the bar area which is on a first come basis.
We celebrated a special anniversary last weekend, and the service and food were excellent. I had heard it can be noisy, but we went earlier on a Saturday night (had reservations), and they seated us around a corner so it wasn't that bad on a busy evening. My plate was a huge portion of chicken sorrento- enough for three really. My husband enjoyed his Chilean sea bass. No room for dessert. Attentive but not intrusive team service. Will definitely be back.
1st time here. When we walked in I was concerned with how loud it was. We were seated way in the corner in the back room, next to a loud table of young women taking selfies. When the food arrived and I started to eat I was like …. What’s happening!! What’s happening!!! Suddenly I didn’t care about how loud it was, I didn’t care about the location of our table, I didn’t care about our neighbors… I was blown away with what was going in my mouth!!! Omg blown away!!! Even the side salad was amazing!!! ( get the house dressing!!!) my compliments to the chef, and to the family that owns and runs this fantastic restaurant!! Hands down best place ever!! I will be back again and again!! Gianna was the best!!
Best Italian food in the Capitol District. Somewhat noisy. Had the sea bass that was delicious. Wife had really good eggplant parm.
If you want to do Italian go here. Food is top tier, service is above and beyond, and the atmosphere is phenomenal. Everything was delicious nothing disappointed and the meatballs are insane. Will and Maria are the best! This is the place to be for a great meal and excellent service!
I haven't been to the new location, but I was skeptical after going to the original location for almost 30 years, but they did it! They made the transition to the suburbs in a great location with plenty of parking. They have a nice outdoor seating area as well. I had the Chilean Sea Bass special over angel hair with capers and house salad with balsamic vinegrette. They now have a bar where I prefer to eat while I business by myself. The staff is great and accommodating. I shall return!
I took my wife her last night for her Bday dinner & oh man was it a fantastic experience!! We have both been wanting to go here & it def lives up to the hype!! My wife had the Carbonara & she said it was out of this world good!! I had the Veal Sorrento, which exceeded any expectations I had!! The atmosphere is great & the service was simply phenomenal!! If you have never been here, I highly recommend it, we can't wait to go back!!
Caffe Italia is truly a Capital Region GEM! Their new location is so well designed, the atmosphere is cozy yet modern and so inviting! You will not find better Italian food than here; everything I've tried was truly exceptional. Will took great care of us even with all the curveballs our large party threw his way- he was attentive, upbeat and composed all night. Maria is the epitome of hospitality, she really makes you feel like you're dining in her home-if I had a restaurant I'd want her to be the face of it! The bartenders are also wonderful-the perfect combination of pizazz, professionalism and delicious mixology, every drink I had was delectable! I plan to dine here a lot more in 2025! They never miss!🤌🏼
Beautiful family creating beautiful food. I love the new location! I grew up in Guilderland so the new location being set up in 20 mall/hamilton square is like being at home. Modern finishes and a great team supporting the family recipes that come out of the kitchen make the experience that much more worth while. 💜
SENSATIONAL. From the beginning, the staff was super friendly and attentive. The bread and oil was delicious and had a bit of a crunch and heat to it. We ordered two Peroni beers and they brought out chilled glasses for them (amazing). For start, our meals came with a soup or salad. I got a salad with the tomato basil dressing and it was THE BEST salad dressing I've ever had. He mentioned several other dressings and they all sounded home-made so this felt no different. My boyfriend got the soup of the day, which was a seafood chowder. I tried it and it was AMAZING. I'm not normally a chowder person, but this was nice and thin and creamy, not too thick. I got the lobster ravioli which was absolutely stellar. It tasted home made to me and I'm convinced it was. If not, they got it from the best distributor around. My boyfriend got the chicken francese and it was, to quote him, "twice as good as the best francese I've ever had". The place is very small, so reservations are definitely recommended. We won't be eating any other Italian place. This was amazing.
Caffè Italia Best Italian food in the region! 🤤 I was invited here from a friend who haven’t been here for a while. we ordered our food and everything was very good and I really enjoyed the delicious Italian taste and conversation with my friend. My five star ⭐️ for this place is inly for taste and chef’s 👨🍳 Few things need to improve for this restaurant; • There’s no parking 🅿️ for this restaurant and you have to find spot on the street, and unfortunately street parking isn’t available all the time. • menu needs improvement, they had especial menu for Friday but wasn’t on the table and explained by servers. • price on the menu isn’t reasonable and dessert menu wasn’t available. • interior design of restaurant is so basic, if you are serving a delicious Italian taste at your place you must present Italian atmosphere. Fingers crossed for improvement🤞
My wife and I had dinner here last month for anniversary and wanted to go to a very fine place. We we a little skeptical given the location and smallish size of the restaurant, but, boy, we were not disappointed! The food was outstanding; fine cuisine, all handmade and traditional. The homemade desserts made this seemingly perfect meal that much better. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone!
First visit to this long time area restaurant. Had veal pizzaoli, chicken francais and chicken marsala along with greens and beans. Every dish was tender and flavorful. Each dish served with a fresh salad and a loaf of crafted bread for the table. Wait staff was attentive and friendly. A shout out to our main server, William, who had a great personality. All the staff pitches in which helps with clearing dishes, refilling water and getting the extras like grated cheese for the table. It was very busy and hence a little noisy but enjoyable nonetheless.
Loved the food at old location. The new Guilderland location is larger and very pleasant except for the incredible assault on the ears- Sinatra interspersed with techno and other stuff at top volume with everyone shouting above it and nothing to absorb the noise. The FOOD was disappointingly uneven- Pasta Amatriciana was great, but my chicken piazzola had about a half CUP of oil in it- I spoke to our waiter about gross excess of oil but he didn’t offer to help so I let it go but should have sent it back- see photos. Too much fat makes me physically ill due to digestive issues- i picked out the chicken and my husband wanted to take the sauce home- the bag was full of oil! Side of penne that came w the meals was over cooked. Service was good but left disappointed and with our ears ringing. We will go to Grappa in the future..far more pleasant experience.
