I came here for happy hour with some friends after work and was thrilled with the food and drinks. our bartender Jeff was extremely attentive and a really good conversation while sitting at the bar. He also recommended some great food and was very knowledgeable about different cocktails. The happy hour menu is pretty large and some great deals for $5. The wines are $7 a glass, so I've had less expensive ones at other happy hours. However you need to take into account the location in general. I'd highly recommend coming here for a visit. They validate parking from the garage!
Me and my girlfriend visited and decided to go somewhere fancy for our four year anniversary. It was one of the most amazing meals we've both enjoyed in a very long time. Service was impeccable and the atmosphere was simply sublime. We picked a wonderful night since they had live music and I would recommend to anyone trying to have a wonderful evening.
Very nice. The atmosphere is amazing. Although the food was very good, not really my liking as I do not eat meat. Most of their limited menu is a meat item. The only vegetarian dish did not appeal to me. The views were very nice, but I was hoping for more views of the city and most of the views were of the Connecticut river and interstate. I would totally recommend, but once was enough for me.
Amazing views of the Hartford skyline and out to surrounding areas. Food is extremely well seasoned and prepared, staff is attentive and not over anxious. Pretty laid back and relaxing place. Not easy to get to but worth it.
The staff is very friendly and courteous, the food is of excellent quality and the place indeed has a charm to it with a very good vibe. And that amazing view is certainly a cherry on the cake.
I was blown away by the food. We had a slow start with service, but that was remedied. We came for the monk fish and were not disappointed. It was incredible. And... HALF PRICE BOTTLES OF WINE. I am not sure how long they are doing this promotion, but it was Friday night and we had an amazing petite syrah bottle for a steal. It was worth every penny.
Wonderful, exceptional dinning experience, wine pairing was awesome. This is one of the jewels in Hartford and they continue to support our family memorial charity event each year. Thank you, thank you, thank you .
Very romantic. The food was amazing and the view was incredible. The service here is the best I've ever experienced. We were treated like royalty.
What an experience! From the greeting at arrival, to the incredible views, and the exquisite food properly paired with wines....all perfect! This is an experience to be enjoyed like no other in the region.
Great view of sleepy downtown Hartford. Not a ton of great places to eat in Hartford but On20 (on the 20th Floor) was as good as any. Food was very good and service for our dinner group was excellent.
Came here to celebrate my girlfriends birthday and it blew our minds. The views from the 20th floor of the river, the riverfront, the colt factory dome and downtown Hartford were amazing. The host Michael was great fun to talk to and made the experience unforgettable, Christina our server was simply on point with everything her smile her delightful voice and her attitude to Match just great, the food amazing the HEAD CHEF Jeff made sure the food was amazing definitely gonna be going back again and again BIG THANKS TO MICHAEL, CHRISTINA, and HEAD CHEF JEFF. From Ray and Vanesa on 1/20/2016 Jeff of you are reading this this is RAY FROM WESTFARMS MALL AT&T again the food simply outstanding.
On20 hosted a dining event for the Chaine des Rotisseurs on April 6, 2019. What a beautiful venue! With views both of the Connecticut River, as well as the Hartford cityscape skyline, every window provides a breathtaking view. The cocktail program is top notch and award winning -- order your favorite or ask for a recommendation. The service is polished and efficient. Chef Jesse Powers creates unbelievable dishes, twisting and intertwining classic French preparations with seasonal and local products. The results go beyond expectation.
The food is creative, eclectic and right up any "foodie's" ally! Interesting combinations and fresh local ingredients will delight hit palate. Best service in Hartford- true fine dining. The atmosphere is sophisticated, and has an exclusive feel with an unbeatable view of the CT river. The wine list offers a great selection to fit any budget. Go here! My date and I had dinner at ON20 on Oct 15th for Hartford restaurant week. They have a limited menu for restaurant week but the courses were well prepared and the service was very attentive. I'm looking forward to returning for the full menu soon.
Great views and excellent service. The menu, while inventive, is not as avant-garde as some other places I've been, but it was great food none-the-less. We also really enjoyed the wine pairing, which worked quite well with the prepared menu (which is not always the case with these things).
What a glorious experience we had last evening at ON20! We have been coming here since 2012 and have had nothing but exceptional service from Michael and his Staff..who's attention to detail goes above and beyond. The Executive Chef Jessie is extremely creative and the presentation is exceptional! And he took the time to come to our table and asked how we enjoyed our meal.. I also must include Jeffrey the bartender for his knowledge in mixology and wine pairing with his quick wit...
If you want upscale or impress your significant other this is the place to be. My boyfriend at the time, now husband took me there on a spontaneous dinner date and WOW.. incredible, service, food was heavenly and the view was breath taking. I can't wait for my next visit.
In super hands with Cynthia and Michael! Enjoyed taste of Hartford menu while over looking city and CT river. Everything very delicious and enjoyable as usual. On 20 is quite an experience. Happy hour is awesome - lots of appetizers to choose from and creative drink concoctions as well as a good choice of beers/wines. Stay for dinner - Friday night is 1/2 price bottles of wine and they're reasonably priced to begin with! After dinner, wander through the rooms and take in the views of the city (the maitre d' encourages it!) We did the tasting dinner for the first time - 10 courses (12 if you include the amuse bouche and macaroons that slipped onto our table at the end). Each course was small but rich and by the time we reached the end, we were FULL. There were so many dishes but my favorites were the poached halibut, ricotta tortellini, and russian caviar (served in an amazing sauce inside a sea urchin shell). The regular menu is also super creative. It's a well-kept secret in Hartford.
This was a totally unexpected and delightful experience. Located on the 20th floor of the Hartford Steam Boiler building, this restaurant boasts a view of Hartford, CT that is stunning! I was seated at a small table along the windows overlooking the CT River and watched the sunset. The dining room is classically appointed, the service elegant and the food exquisite. The Maitre' d, who introduced himself as Michael, proceeded to make the evening special indeed, providing insight into the interesting history of the restaurant, its owners, chef, and future. I couldn't recommend this restaurant more and thank everyone for a special evening.
The three of us had an exceptional dinner here that was enhanced by Michael McGarity, the manager, and Deidre and AJ our servers. We were seated facing a spectacular view of Hartford and the river. The White Gazpacho was rich yet light; the green bean salad was crisp and tasty; the red snapper sauteed and moist and an exceptional surf and turf made with Wagyu beef and lobster made with red wine. We shared a delicious cheesecake made with goat cheese. Definitely worth making a reservation.
This place is phenomenal. Top notch service always, obviously one of the best views in the area, ambiance is lovely, classic, even complete with grand piano. Food is sourced locally and I've met the chef twice, always proud and smiling (and so, so handsome).
A group of us went for the taste of Hartford but I will gladly go back. The food was fantastic and the wait staff were all extremely friendly and attentive. The great views only added to an exceptional experience. I look forward to returning.
The new Chef - Jessie Powers is amazing! So grateful he settled here. On20 is our favorite place to visit for really special occasions such as our anniversary, bdays, or New Year's. The staff is amazing, the food second to none. Very classy upscale place - great for dates.
Romantic. Delicious. Luxurious. Attentive. Impressive. Rewarding. You will use all these words once you've met Michael and his staff. You'll be hooked like we were once you've sampled the spectacular menu. Don't walk. Run to On20. You will not be disappointed!
My Dad and I stopped after a show at the Bushnell He had the beef burrito with rice and refried. Not overly spiced, good beef flavor. Rice and bean tastly. I had the the three with three sauces. The mole was amazing..Beans ok. The rice was nice. We reccomend using stop and try it!
Excellent menu and service. We came here for our anniversary and did the tasting menu. It ended up being 11 courses with individual wine pairings, and our server, David, does the pairings. Everything was delicious, and a great value considering we tried almost everything on the menu! The curds and whey with ricotta gnocchi was unique and delicious. You also cannot beat the view, although we had hoped to get a window seat we only made reservations a few days prior so was not surprised we couldn't get the window. The the view was great anyway, and they let you walk to their larger party rooms on the West side to view the sunset which was beautiful. Will definitely return for a special occasion.
We just enjoyed a phenomenal experience tonight, celebrating New Year's Eve with an absolutely fantastic dinner at ON20. Every course was delicious, and the wine pairings were perfectly chosen. Our son was able to enjoy excellently prepared non-alcoholic pairings, which perfectly complemented each course as well as ours did! We all greatly appreciate the expertise of the bartender and his efforts to enhance our experience! The staff was friendly and attentive, and made for a memorable evening. We can't wait to go back!
I had my birthday dinner there last night. The setting is quite elegant and the views are gorgeous. The food was perfect and service was probably one of the best I've ever had. I would totally recommend coming here for any special occasion or celebration. They also have a large room in the back for private parties. Very highly recommended.
Can't say anything bad about this place. Food was excellent, many familiar dishes but often with a distinctive twist. Service was very professional but not stuffy or stiff. This was an anniversary dinner, though we didn't mention anything until asked. That led to a gift of two loaves of the cheesy garlic bread to take home. Totally unnecessary, but very...
Great environment and amazing food. Perfect combination regardless if you are celebrating something or just want to enjoy a nice meal. It has the great restaurant vibe without the pressure from the staff. Compliments to the chef. Hands down the best foie grass I have ever had.
The starter side salad was pleasant without distinction, and the sashimi was a bit fishy tasting, though the sauce was nice. The scallops had a nice crust and otherwise unremarkable. The chicken had a very flavorful crust and the succotash with it was a star. The two sides were both extraordinary the crispy potatoes were a little soft but had great flavor and some goof crispy bits. The grilled peppers were awesome.
It was our first time at Salute, it was my boyfriend's bday. Great service, everything was awesome! Service was great. We ordered chicken and shrimp Alfredo and calamari. Our dishes were tasty. No complaints! Server Vicente was great as well. Will definitely return. One of the best in Hartford.
In super hands with Cynthia and Michael! Enjoyed taste of Hartford menu while over looking city and CT river. Everything very delicious and enjoyable as usual. The staff is very friendly and courteous, the food is of excellent quality and the place indeed has a charm to it with a very good vibe. And that amazing view is certainly a cherry on the cake. I visited On20 for a business luncheon. I was delighted to find On20 has a gazpacho that I now dream about! I also had a wonderful chicken dish and an assortment of desserts, including a flourless chocolate cake. Great views of Hartford, but very pricey!
The Chef's Tasting menu is phenomenal. Each couse is exquisitely paired with a glass of wine. Michael is always so attentive and checks in with the table often. On20 would not be the same without him. Our server, Jackie was very knowledgeable about all of the dishes. She made sure to ask about every dish we had. The experience was completely worth the price of the tasting menu and we will definitely be back!!
Ambience and view were amazing (probably the best one in Hartford), but food was not special. Recommend for special occasion.
Beautiful view of the hartford skyline and nice atmosphere. A little tricky getting up but the food was delicious. Definitely would want to experience
Both lunch and dinner menus were offered so there was a lot to choose from. I had an amazing lobster/crab burger that was delicious and not too rich sauce wise. Salad and bread are always solid there. Baltimore shrimp is something I would recommend to any seafood lover. The sauce is perfect and the spice rub on the shrimp not...
This is a good but expensive meal, with nice views from the 20th floor. We had dinner there during Hartford's restaurant week, so 2 tried the tasting menu and 2 in our party order a la carte. I did not find the menus appealing overall: the descriptions seemed pretentious, while simultaneously not doing the dishes full justice. However, all of the food was amazing. A complimentary house-made limoncello and orangecello was a nice touch with dessert.
Gorgeous views on a clear day. Quiet restaurant for midweek lunch. Short menu but nice options. Tasty and pretty presentation. Quite pricey, though. Attentive wait staff.
Went for hh on a Friday and it wasn't too busy at all! Fancier nibbles on hh to try (beef tartare for example) but they also had a cheese selection with olives. Wine options had a red, white and rose. I got the red and was really happy with it.
We went for Taste of Hartford. Our meal was great, but probably won’t come back and pay full price. I think the quality of the food was similar to other fine dining restaurants downtown, but the regular menu is priced significantly higher. I highly recommend the Taste of Hartford menu, but think it’s overpriced for dinner at any other time. Also, we were told they were booked for reservations over the phone and the restaurant was nearly empty on a Thursday night. Kinda weird.
Service was great, food was not so good, and the check is shady. The tip was added as "service" without any consultation, and when I asked about the charge, neither the server or the Maitre'D were clear about it. I don't think I will come back.
Very expensive. Great service and great view. Food was good but not great. I have had better steaks at average local restaurants. I was somewhat let down with my steak (90 day dry aged steak should have been amazing but it was not)
I think the food and ambiance are good but there are several details which leave a lot to be desired. For instance we asked for more bread and we were told "they ran out of it" (at 8pm on a Wednesday!). Also the service charge of 20% is confusing. I asked and it is ambiguous if I should leave more tip. I felt forced a bit since the explanation from the waitress sort of said they "shared" it among the service people. This needs to be clarified because the check was more than 187 bucks and I don't want to leave over 50 dollars of tip because you are "forced" to that service charge
This was my first time visiting ON20 with my husband. Overall the food was ok and the view was great. We chose the chef’s tasting menu along with some cocktails. The cocktails were Demogorgan and another Lemon based cocktail which were awesome. We were given 7 courses, 3 appetizers, 2 entrees and 2 desserts. Our only disappointment was our first dessert which was a cheesecake completely made out of goat cheese. The taste was very very strong for us and it also smelled bad at the same time. We had to return our dessert after having just one bite. I don’t think we will be visiting again but if we do, we hope to get a better choice of dessert the next time.
Very friendly staff, even had us for drinks at the bar after with them. Great people. I feel bad for the 3-stars but the food was not what I expected. We did the tasting menu with wine pairing. The wines were good and I did like a few of the 8 courses. One course was escargot. Typically tiny snails smothered in garlic and butter in the classic French preparation. These snails were HUGE. They were served with charred pearl onions in a burnt onion sauce. The snails were a quite chewy and tasted like a pond, not sure where they were going with the accompaniments but I couldn't eat more than one bite. The foie gras was served cold and such a large portion I couldn't finish it. Rich protein dish after rich protein dish came out without a balance. I appreciate if the chef was trying to "hook us up" but I would have liked some variety. Again, great staff and a few really good dishes. I just think the kitchen should have the tasting menu tell a story or have a rhythm, rather than just trying to impress with rich animal proteins. Thanks again for the drinks guys!
Not what it used to be. This was our 5th or 6th visit. I thought my soup was on the salty side. The "amuse" was greasy and my lobster was a little underdone. The Martini wasn't all that great either. :( Sad. It's way too expensive to give it another shot.
Went there for Hartford Restaurant week and the food was unimpressive. The atmosphere is lovely, and the host was super charming, but the food was only ok. I started with the grilled romaine salad with quail egg. The quail egg yolk was hard. Short rib with polenta for main course, polenta was excellent short rib mostly fat. Dessert was a parfait that was nice, but overall not to the standard of a 4 star restaurant. Maybe they shine when they are less busy.
The service was pathetic for a fine dining standard, 1 guy ran all around served at all the tables, no one asked if food came out good, in fact in 1.5 hours we were only served drinks, starter and main then were asked to wait until after fireworks, which was to start in 20 min. Rudest of all, someone called prior to our arrival to say we will have to leave by certain time as they are fully booked for fireworks and then later their service was so poor we ended up watching fireworks from there. They didn’t even give us a window seat, there were 2 vacant up until 20 min prior to fireworks. If they are charging everyone equally then why not give seats on first come basis. Overall I went there to celebrate my hubby bday but server was not courteous to even wish him happy bday after knowing. Forget about expecting a good dessert. Most fine dine restaurants the experience is different and they make you feel special. They had nothing to offer. They charged us 20% gratuity for a party of 2 for this pathetic service, also nowhere stated or told. Although Food was good, some art work there but their menu is very limited and portions are very small. They served us a regular menu where starter and main dish was $11 each but they charged us $75 at the end. Our server didn’t say anything regarding that at the start. Also included was a dessert buffet for which we had to wait almost an hour as fireworks was starting in 20 min and we had to self serve after that, who self serves in fine dining restaurant. The point is you can keep whatever price in the restaurant but your menu and service should be up to that level.
Slow service, small portions. Limited menu and a bill of $210 for very little food. I suggest they improve their food menu and increase food portions. Asparagus Salad was literally three stalks of asparagus. Won't recommend. There's better places out there in Hartford.
I have been eating out in fine restaurants, both in the U.S. and throughout Europe, for many years. Eating out, after all, is my favorite pastime. As in most fine restaurants, there is never a need to write a negative review. They overwhelmingly meet my three important requirements of (1) excellent food with creative presentation design, (2) tasteful ambiance, and (3) professional and attentive service. It is particularly helpful if the service is knowledgeable in the areas of both wine and food. All three of those requests are of equal importance to me. My recent experience at ON20 on 21 April 2016, however, requires me to write a review that I hope is taken seriously as I found that two things greatly upset me and I strongly feel they should be unacceptable to any potential customer. I am not complaining about the food, service, or ambience. All three were superb and worthy of high commendation. What I found most disturbing was the ON20 policy of automatically placing a 20% surcharge in lieu of a tip on your bar tab, and then again on your dinner bill. I could not believe this and called over the bartender, hostess, and manage to object. They all were polite and seemed to sympathize with my objections. Nevertheless, they said that there was nothing that they could do because it was the company's policy. I find it hard to believe that a manager does not have the authority to override such a foolish policy. Firstly, it is insulting to the customer. It seems to imply that they do not trust the customer to tip 20%. For me, as well as my dining partner, we customarily tip between 20-30%, sometimes even more when the aforementioned requirements are exceptional. Knowledgeable customers should respect fine restaurants and dress well, act well, and tip well when visiting those establishments. Automatically charging 20% will insure that not a cent above 20% will ever be given to the waiter/waitress after that insult. I wonder if ON20 actually gives their servers the full 20% of the "surcharge"? The hostess also tried to tell me that all the top restaurants in New York City do that. I responded by saying that we were not in New York City and that I've been to virtually every top ten restaurant in NYC from Le Bernardin, to Daniel, to Le Cirque, to Petrossian, to Jean-Georges, to Eleven Madison Park, to Aquavit. NONE of them automatically put a 20% tip on your bill. The second and more important issue was that the customer should evaluate the service and not the restaurant. I WISH TO DECIDE what the appropriate tip should be in any restaurant from 5 Star establishments to local diners. This policy I can see at large parties or weddings, but certainly not for two people dining out on a normal weekday. What would happen if the service was poor? Would they reduce the surcharge? Finally, the tasting menu that we ordered was not representative of the various foods that they serve at ON20. Normally, the reason for a "tasting menu" is to give the customer a sampling of the various specialties of the establishment. Our tasting menu was 8 courses of all fish items! Shouldn't it have been a percentage of meat, fish, and other items? Since we had already opened a fine bottle of St. Emilion - a red Bordeaux, that blew any hope of matching any one of the 8 courses that were included in the tasting menu. The answer of course is when you order the tasting menu; you are at the mercy of those who decide your courses. Fish items, though excellent, are higher profit items than meat courses. They took full advantage of our trust in them. Like I said previously, my complaints are not directed toward the food quality, ambiance, or service. All of those were superb. It is against that very foolish policy that would prevent me from ever going there again and I hope that other potential customers will consider this point of view. I invite the owners to contact me at anytime to discuss this further.
