I love coming here to work and be productive in a nice environment. I always ask for Casm he takes such good care of me and whoever I bring. Always upbeat and attentive 10/10.
The food is consistently great. I always order the lamb chops. You can’t beat the price. The staff is equally awesome. Thank you Gabrielle for always taking such great care of me!
Alyssa and Victoria were the best severs I’ve ever had, super nice and pretty
Ryan is my guy, best in the business! Great hospitality and great service. All the staff at Cafe Layal is excellent.
This is my favorite restaurant/lounge in Houston great service and the food is freshly cooked. Fransico, Mark, and Ryan always provide phenomenal service. Highly recommend!
Ryan, was very helpful, helped me understand the menu and picked me the greatest hookah flavor in Houston. I will definitely be back!!! 10 out of 10
Ryan and Alyssa were great! The service was good and the hookahs are cheap but of quality. Alwyas a good spot.
Consistent 5 star service, greeted by a nice young lady with a captivating smile and even more amazing service. Two thumbs up. Always!
Cafe layal is my go to spot for food, hookah or just a mid-day get away. The service is always great and I can’t count on both hands how many times I’ve been here in the past year. Top 10 places to visit while you’re in Houston. When you come, ask for Ryan! He’s the best server I’ve had at any establishment. Attentive and always checking in his tables
I am in LOVE with this place. 3 years have been going here since before I moved to Houston. Perfect atmosphere for those that work remotely during the day. Great BYOB with chill vibes and excellent hookah by night. The hookah and tea are what has me coming back. But the customer service is just as excellent. If you ever find yourself in Midtown Houston, definitely check out this place and order their lamb chop plate with hummus. You'll love it.
Most definitely a spectacular experience. Food was great with reasonable prices and of course the hookah was a plus. I must admit my favorite part was Rayan, he was attentive , patient and very knowledgeable of the food and hookah offered. Of course I’ll be back 😌.
Wide selection of food and beverage. Everything is excellent that I have tried. Vegetable Medley and Falafel wraps are amazing. Beef and chicken kabobs as well, season to perfection. Great for healthy late night dining.
GREAT SERVICE. Great at checking hookah coals and getting out food and orders out in a timely manner. Food was mid but it was okay for the service that I received. The atmosphere is chill no urban music but that’s fine. More for talking and having convos. I love it here! Be sure to request lib 66 hookah flavor you won’t regret it.
Been coming here for years. Cisco, Serg & Angel always taken good care of us. Good service, good food and good vibes. Even have stayed here late and they've always made sure we made it home safe. Going above and beyond without us asking. Will always have my business, HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
Great food and good atmosphere. They have BYOB,so you can bring what you want to drink. Service is pretty fast even when they place is nearly packed, they have plenty of servers. Hookah is also a great and their coals is great. They use real coals and no those instant lites like some other hookah bars.
I came here with my ex-boyfriend once. I broke up with him but I stayed with this restaurant as my go-to. So everytime I go on a date I bring them here. Some restaurants last longer than actual relationships. It also very inexpensive.
Café Layal is a warm and inviting spot that offers not only delicious coffee but also a relaxing atmosphere. Their espresso drinks are smooth and satisfying, while the menu also features a variety of flavorful options beyond coffee. The staff is welcoming and attentive, making every visit enjoyable. With its cozy vibe, great drinks, and tasty food options, Café Layal is perfect for both casual hangouts and relaxed coffee breaks. It’s a great place to unwind and enjoy a thoughtfully prepared cup of coffee in a comfortable setting.
Nice place great food and good service Thanks Layla 😊
Cafe layal have a good service perfect food and specially about the service they have.a great waiter his name mahdi I love to serve me .
Layal is my everyday wind down spot. The staff is like family at this point. Big shoutout to Fransico, Ryan, and Mark for always taking care of me and my guests. They keep fresh coals coming for my hookah, and ensure my food orders are fresh, and hot. Not enough stars to give here 10/10‼️ This is not a paid add🤣🤣🤣
Super lado back atmosphere with great staff. Food is reasonably priced
So glad we found this gem. We came midday on a Thursday, found parking in their lot, and enjoyed some hookah and great food. People were also working/studying so I didn’t feel guilty having my computer out. People were there for a while (and we were too) because it’s a great vibe. Staff was friendly. Really glad I found this place, definitely recommend. Also, please do yourself a favor and get the fries. Sooo good!!
Ryan was the best at hosting our table! I love the hookah and vibes here. We brought a bottle and he kept the party going!
Was here tonight, was served by a lady named Sahana, the food was delicious, good recommendations from the server, lamb chops delicious, hookah was amazing, she made me a mix, and it’s byob on top!!! Will be back for sure !!!
Alyssa was a great server !! Definitely coming back to see her again great and big personality! Always smiling & very polite ☺️food is 10/10 !!
I been here a lot of time and this time special day for me and for my family because of the server Era thanks for service I will come back for sure
Best coffee shop in town🤩🤩,laila who helped me was incredibly friendly, Customer service like this makes me want to come back again!
Great place to eat and tasty food. The place is very relaxed but always clean. The staff is prompt and super helpful. The food is fresh and warm. This is a great place to eat, drink and smoke hookah. This place is always packed Friday and Saturday nights. I meet my friends here for Sunday lunch 3 or 4 times a year and enjoy it everytime (not super busy on sundays). None of us smoke hookah anymore but we still come from all over Houston for the food. I always get the beef shawarma with a Greek salad instead of rice and halloumi as an appetizer. Never disappoints.
The food and drinks here are actually pretty tasty, though sometimes a bit dry. The hookah is generally pretty good too, at least it’s cleaner than some other places I’ve been to. The best thing here is probably the service, my friend that brings me here knows our server and he’s always hilarious!
Shawarma was flavored really well, fries were hot and crispy, hummus was favored well and not super oily. The shawarma plate was a great price for the quantity of food. The only complaint was that it was not the crispy shaved/sliced off chicken like I love. The Halloumi cheese was cooked great. It’s seems expensive for the serving size you get, but look how much you would pay at H‑E‑B and you will think it is cheap. Garlic and chili sauces were both solid. Lastly, the staff was super friendly!
Great place to go and hangout after work or school they got fresh smoothies and good hookah. The food good I like the falafel. The price is a average and they have happy hour hookah 7:95 m-f 2 pm till 7pm just make sure u pick from the flavors under happy hours. If the hookah hard to smoke ask them to fix it for you sometime it's leak from somewhere. The Juice was not the best but it's alright.
Nice place to chill out and feel the downtown when sitting outside in the open with your hookah taking shots. Hookah tenders do take care if the coal at regular basis and serve the best quality as per my experience to their customers. I loved the kick with each puff being a bit intolerant too hookah. The food is good and tasty even in the vegetarian options.
Thank u Layla u r the best Abd the hookah it is really good in layal cafe
Karolina is amazing. She provided top quality service and I genuinely appreciate her attention to detail. Francisco the manager is so kind and I noticed how attentive he was while he was cleaning up the plants around the patio. He also would check to make sure everything was running smooth. The atmosphere is also so inviting. It brings a type of comfort i will definitely be wanting to return for all summer long. They are also dog friendly and provided a dog water bowel with ice to make sure my puppy was taken care of as well.
I love layal, it’s one of my favorite middle eastern places in Houston!! Employees are also very friendly!
Very good hookah lounge, and it’s BYOB fo a charge. Their hookah is well prepared so this my friend and i’s go to spot. Food wise, I haven’t eaten here often but the few things I’ve had were fairly decent.
Layal Restaurant provides excellent food paired with exceptional service. A wonderful dining experience from start to finish . Laila was very helpful and patient with everybody.
The food was absolutely amazing! Great menu, good portion sizes. The Layal house salad with gyro was a great option for my first visit!
Layal Middle Eastern Restaurant is a gem in Houston. The food is absolutely delicious, fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Everything we ordered was well-seasoned and authentic, and the portions were generous. The atmosphere is cozy and welcoming, perfect for a relaxed meal, and the staff was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. You can really feel the love for the cuisine here, home made breads and all. Highly recommend if you’re craving quality Middle Eastern food. We’ll definitely be back!
My first time in this establishment after years of passing it by happened to be on a Saturday afternoon around 3pm. The place had a very low occupancy, nice music at a reasonable volume, lots of space and staff members to assist. If you ever thought this was a restaurant, it is more of a co-working space with tasty food. Oh, there's also smoothies, a fee for BYOB or you can grab a drink from next door and enjoy it here. Pretty cool I thought. I had the pleasure of staying over 6 hours eating Shrimp Kabobs, rice, grilled veggies, and fries that I chose over the hummus. The garlic sauce is delicious!! Their smoothies are very sugarless in taste but watery which is good for hydration, maybe. No complaints other than the $7 price tag. Our servers were attentiveness and pleasant. Lastly, Hookah is a service here, there's an outdoor covered patio with what I believe were heated lamps. Overall, I enjoyed my time here. I felt comfortable enough to return for work purposes. Thanks Cafe Layal
an absolute delight—it immediately brought back the vibrant sights, sounds, and flavors of my past trips to Dubai and the Middle East. From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was simply captivating. The decor and ambiance truly captured that distinct, elegant, yet warm Middle Eastern hospitality. The food was the true star, of course. Every dish, from the fragrant , mixed grilled kebabs was authentic and prepared with incredible care. The flavors were so rich and layered; they tasted just as I remember them from the bustling souks and fine dining spots in Dubai. The mixture was the perfect sweet finish. The service was impeccable—attentive, gracious, and welcoming, perfectly mirroring the exceptional hospitality you find in the region. If you're looking for an unforgettable meal that offers a genuine culinary escape, look no further. It's more than just a dinner; it's a nostalgic journey. Highly recommended!
Food good, like their build a veggie plate. Fried eggplant really good. I think they secretly charge a service fee however bc we just got 2 entrees, 2 soups, 1 spicy potato side, 1 smoothie and 1 soda shared by 3 people. It came out to >$22/ person. And that's without tip. Service good but be honest with customers. If you go here, I would not tip too much or at all bc I think they already calculate that in your bill for you, and their proces are definately abit higher than what is says online here now looking at my receipt. Service and atmosphere nice, but inflation is definitely hitting restaurants too though.
Everything is always fresh when I come here. This is a go to for me because I’m vegan and the menu is very accommodating. Every time I come the staff is friendly and the lady that’s been our waitress the last couple times, short with the dark hair, she knows what I need before I ask. Always have all my sauces because I’m extra. Thanks so much for all of your hospitality! Highly recommend
Food is amazing. Thought their choice of music is very bad. Jayna she is amazing. With hookah you have to take your chances of good or bad. They have their days!! I love their mango and mint lemon smoothie. Great place to study during the afternoon. I spent many days studying their with my coffee and hookah!!
This place is basically like my Cheers lol. Friendly service. Hookah and food is decent. I come here multiple times a week and work from here as well.

The place have a chill vibe and the food is good. drinks were decent and staff was friendly. Parking is terrible though. I recommend this place eif your nearby and wand grab a drink/food with some …
Cool Spot. Get work done, pretty quiet and perfect ambiance for people trying to work or relax and lightly socialize. Food is Mediterranean.
Love love this place! We get the chicken and beef kabob every time! Gotta have the red sauce and garlic sauce! Service is always been great when dinning in. The hookah is always flavorful and it's …
The best lamb chops I've ever had in Houston and I've been to some of the best . Hookahs blow very well and the customer service is always very welcoming. The ambiance is always nice and never have …
This was a chill place in midtown. Walking distance from several other places in the area but parking can be a struggle. The food wasn't doing anything new but it was yummy all the same. Staff was helpful with the selection for the hookah and was a chill time.
Awesome food and shisha(hookah), BYOB (Bring Your Own Beverage), plus a covered outdoor patio. Fantastic Sunday Funday spot! I would have given a perfect 5 star rating however the last time we visited their pricing structure for BYOB had changed in that we had never been charged a bottle fee before and we ended up unexpectedly(was not disclosed beforehand) being charged a fee for each bottle. This resulted in confusion about the final bill for our party. Also, the price for hookah had increased. I felt it could have been handled better but this is still a great spot and they have the best shisha in town.
The food was definitely delicious. There is both indoor and shaded outdoor seating with fans blowing, tvs, and music playing. The drink for the evening was a Lemonade mint smoothie that was so refreshing and herbal in this roasting heat. Their appetizer platter has a tasty range of foods to sample from and plenty for a group of four. Entree of choice was their beef shwarma sandwich which was well seasoned and delicious with the sauces they provide. Portions were more than enough and we all took food home. 4 stars given because service was slow to take our orders and we had to ask for our check twice. A dessert was ordered but never brought out, disappointing there. The atmosphere is overall very relaxed and chill. Not really a place for children, the air is heavy and perfumed from hookah which is a pleasant aroma but something to consider for those sensitive to strong smells. Little to no parking available.
Decent food with decent price. The ambience is ordinary. Looks like people come here for the hookah more than the food. Food was good. Nothing to complain about. Decent vegetarian options. Appetizers were pretty good. Baba ganush and baklava were the best items we had. Would come back for that!
Cafe Layal has probably the best staff in Houston. Very friendly and welcoming. We tried their dishes such as Falafel plate and the mixed mezze plate, both were good enough. I must admit they don't necessarily taste like in the Middle East or the Mediterranean countries, but it's good enough in the states. They have a patio and inside seating. We enjoyed the experience overall, and I would highly recommend the place.
So, for my birthday, my husband surprised me with a dinner date at this place. We decided to try out Spicy Potatoes, Mixed Grill plate, and Lamb Shank. The food was actually quite delicious! Especially the grilled meat which was so tender and juicy. However, the price was a bit on the expensive side. It's a popular spot, always bustling with people. Since everyone seems to be enjoying their hookah, the whole place was filled with smoke. We had to wait a while to get a table and even for the food to arrive. However, our waitress was super friendly and made an effort to make us feel comfortable.
Great option if you have a group looking for hookah + good food. Service was friendly. Was it the best shawarma I've had? No. But I'd take the chicken with hummus though which was quite good (when had hot). Mango beverage was spot on! Seating, although ample and standard table-chair, did not have the lounging kind you'd find at hookah lounges. Lighting was on the brighter side (don't expect a dim hookah place, is what I'm saying). Parking is not free. Just take the valet parking - it's actually cheaper than self-park.

I really love this place, but today the coals weren’t coming out as they should like always. The two workers, a guy and a girl, didn’t bring me new coals for my hookah, so I ended up smoking straight up ash. I miss Sabrina :(
The food was great! This is a hookah bar also and they smoke inside so that is why the low mark on atmosphere for me. They were clean though. Our server was very friendly and I believe he wanted to do good, however it took a really long time for out food to come out and only after I went and asked him when it might be ready. We had already been waiting 45 minutes and all we ordered was one appetizer sampler plate and they weren't very crowded. He also forgot to bring out drinks and garlic sauce. He was very nice and apologetic and said they only had one cook. If it weren't for the smoke, we would probably try them again.
The food is amazing and the hookah is pretty great. I just wish they were more transparent with the pricing. We bought the hookah thinking it was a certain price but they add another couple dollars for the “hose” even though it’s not a special hose. Then the drink was a couple dollars more than what it said on the menu. The food was more too. Just be more transparent with the pricing so we don’t feel bamboozled when the check comes. If it wasn’t for the hidden up-charges that we are not made aware, this place would be pretty awesome.
Gabriel has good customer service. The woman guarding the patio was rude and would not allow two women to sit in the patio area. Gabriel fixed the mater
So, so. You get what you get in that neighborhood. Food was below par overall, meaning I can make better at home. Had the falafel wrap, much prefer Zamani's or any other I've had in Houston. The cauliflower side was good, cooked well, but didn't seem to have coriander seasoning? It was good though. Fries were also cooked well, but not really seasoned. Baba ganoug was meh, not smokey at all, heavy on tahini. Parking was paid and to just get water was a $2 bottle. Open till 3 a.m. might be the biggest selling point.
Didnt have any food but it was given a little run down, but the hookahs were amazing flavor and everything and the service was impeccable
This restaurant is mediocre compared to other Arabic restaurants in Houston. The food is good, but the menu is not diverse. They only offer a limited variety of common Arabic and Middle Eastern food. I prefer Layal at Hilcroft to this one. They have much more beautiful atmosphere and a menu with a very good variety of options.
I come here so much … with the BYOB I’m usually too lit to even look at the bill 😵💫🍷… but tonight I was sober. The waiter gave me the total without showing any bill breakdown 🤨. I paid it — sounded about right. Then I asked for a printed receipt and the total was torn off 😒. Asked again for the full version and boom — gratuity already added 🧐. But the menu clearly says that’s for parties of 5 or more. There were THREE of us. Our 4th friend came at the end and didn’t even order anything! 👀 I don’t do dishonest energy… run me my $24.63 back and you can keep that $13.28 tip since we’re being shady, sir!! 💅🏾💸
Decent spot in midtown for some middle Eastern food. I ordered the chicken schwarma and lamb gyro and both were filling and fries were battered/crispy.

The fruits were pretty old and the food wasn't that good but the service was amazing they have an amazing buffet in Ramadan!

Gyro bowl is 20 dollars and has perhaps 2-2.5 dollars worth of ingredients. All ingredients are very cheap except for the gyro meat which has enough to be more like a flavoring than a protein source. Seriously, there is about 150 calories of protein. It is disappointing.
Delicious, late night order Packaging for salads needs to be better, dressing spills everywhere when they dump it in a styrofoam box Update: I like the food so much I decided to order a second day in a row. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed to see that Layal eggplant is actually just small pieces of deep fried eggplant delivered in a heavy oil and was actually clearly dumped directly from a hot pan into a Styrofoam plate causing the bottom to melt and leak oil all over the rest of my order. Even if the packaging wasn’t awful the food was very unappetizing
Too many other places to choose from with better hookah, cleanliness and customer service than this place.

This was my first time trying this place and let’s just say I WILL NOT BE BACK! My food was actually really good but my service sucked. First when I was seated it was during happy hour, but it took him so long to come back it was after 7 by that time and he refused to honor the happy hour hookah price. Moving forward the waiter came to my table to take my initial order other than bringing the food we never saw him again at the table. Not only that, when I was ready to pay, ACCORDING TO THE WAITER the restaurant automatically adds gratuity to the bill. But the menu says automatic gratuity on all parties if 5 or more ; there was only 2 of us! I had him remove it, then he stood over me to see if I would add a tip and asked how was my service? Once I told him it was okay and left no tip because I asked him why the bill was so high he tried to avoid showing me the gratuity. THIS MAN followed me out to tell me next time he won’t remove the gratuity because he had excellent service. I told him had he been honest and actually checked on his tables he could’ve had a tip!
Man this place has really gone down from when I used to come here back in early 2010s. I decided to come today to try out the food. We arrived and got told that cooks aren't in yet and they should be coming any time soon. Not a big deal and we didn't wait for like 10 minutes until pur waitress told us that cooks came in. Overall the food is still good. Just the staff wasn't very attentive and only came to get our initial order. We wanted to order more and I'm kind of thankful we didn't order more. Once we were done we waited for about 30 minutes to get our check until I said I'll just go up to the front and ask to check out. Everyone check your receipts before you sign off. I got charged gratuity fee of 15% for 2 people in the menu it says gratuity will be charged for groups of 5. So not sure why we were charged this. I also seen there was a fee charge of a couple of dollars again not sure why this was charged probably for using a credit card. Overall total bill was over 30% in fees. Great place for hookah but the fees is where they get you. There are better Mediterranean foods around the area and with better service.
I just Uber Eats an order of falafal shawarma and was beyond disappointed. The falafels were dense, bland hockey pucks. The shawarma themselves were dry and had sparse sauce, with only 3 small pieces of tomato or pickle. It was mostly pita, and bad pita at that. And it was not cheap! Way better options in the area for falafel. Avoid!!
Moldy bread. See the picture. Really terrible service with half dozen servers standing around in a corner chatting while customers waved incessantly to get their attention. Mediocre food. Bland and dry. Honestly, how do they stay in business? Unless you like hookah, this place is not for you.
This was by far the worst dining experience I’ve ever had. From the moment we were seated, the server was extremely rude and disorganized. He didn’t take our order properly, seemed irritated when we asked questions, and showed zero courtesy throughout the service. At one point, he literally tossed a soda can onto our table without a word — no glass, no apology, nothing. Trying to get his attention for anything afterward was an exhausting task. He deliberately ignored us, and his behavior felt personally hostile — even racially motivated, which was both shocking and deeply uncomfortable. The most unbelievable part of the evening came when he seated his clearly intoxicated sister at our table without asking. She intruded on our space, began smoking from our hookah without permission, and made us feel incredibly uneasy. On top of this, both she and the server pressured us to leave a larger tip, despite the already abysmal service. To make matters worse, we were charged gratuity even though there were only two of us, when the menu clearly states it’s applied to parties of five or more. We usually tip generously and don’t mind doing so, but in this case, the service was so unprofessional and disrespectful that it would be outrageous to reward it. Overall, this experience was beyond unacceptable. I will never return, and I strongly advise others to be cautious before choosing this establishment.
Came with a group of friends for a birthday gathering. The owner was nice nasty. Even called security in to tell the party to be quiet. It was a gathering where people are going to talk and laugh. I will never come back to this establishment. Beyond rude and unprofessional.
I had a male guest. I was ignored, I disnt receive the food I ordered, I had to keep asking until after the 4th time of asking for it I gave up . The lentil soup was split pea and cold, my grape leaves were from a can, I was given tomatoes on my all appetizers when I asked to make sure they werent on there as I'm allergic. I was put sandwiched between hookahs with fans blowing the smoke directly onto myself and food. Patio was empty so no reason for this. Further and final insult was when they handed the check to the guest as I had asked for it many times. My car was parked in valet which I paid for to be park at th door and I did ask b4 I paid. When came out valet was gone car was down block and I'm disabled. Do not go to this location it is a fraud. This location is for children who know know better of traditional food, behavior, and have terrible customer service and manners. Go to the Richmond one ..It is not in midtown it is in Galleria..Foot traffic destroys everything on top of it . Oh yes and I was seated at a table that wasnt even big enough to set a drink on nor fit my legs under, with and empty patio, was told I needed a reservation and tables were booked ..NOONE CAME TO THE LOCATION AT ALL WHIKE I WAS THERE FOR MORE THAN 3 HRS WAITING FOR MY FOOD . MY guest had to keep begging for charcoal and tobacco
Ordered their hummus. Took 1 bite and did not like it. Ordered their Arabic Beef Shwarma and spit it out. Politely asked to pay my bill. The manager had me pay full price for something I took one bite of and spit it out in my napkin. Could have at least taken half off, considering I asked to pay and leave, and I'm only saying half because they actually did make the food. The waiter was excellent, though.
I’m a regular here I come all the time but today I don’t know what they were on wasn’t even busy but for some reason I got no service, my coals were so small and wasn’t even replaced! I was just sitting there! My plate I had been finished was still there for more than 30min! Definitely disappointed
. My wife and I went to this cafe on Sunday. The parking lot was packed and the people patrolling broke my car window. We told the staff and they said there was no manager. They took our phone number. They never called us. This is irresponsible towards the public. It is not safe here.
Don’t come here for the food or the hookah. It’s a waste of time and money. Expect reheated frozen food, a broken hookah, and a $4 charge for the hose (they don’t mention that when you order). I ended up taking mine home. The only decent part was the sweet server.
Not good no give you anything fresh yesterday. I drive from Austin to Houston. I go for him. I take my breakfast. He give me double egg and Lebanon with meat. It’s so bad right now. I’m sick. I threw up nothing is a flesh sorry
