WOW. This was my first time at this location. I knew of the Original on Gaylord and enjoyed that food but I prefer this location! Beautiful interior! A lot of menu options, but not overwhelming. Our group ordered the chili shrimp appetizers, dumplings and caviar. Every single one was excellent (chili shrimp was my favorite). I ordered the creamy poblano soup (you will not regret it - it is amazing) and the lobster sliders. I wish I would've taken pics of everyone's food! They raved about the denver roast ;) . If you are still debating whether or not to go, do yourself a favor and go you will not be disappointed!
My family went out to Johnathan’s The Run for my mother’s birthday dinner and the experience has been amazing. I ordered the chicken and waffles and the waffle was flavorful and fluffy and the chicken was well battered and delicious. Our waiter “ cameron “ was AMAZING and very helpful, she gave us brief descriptions on the MANY food items we asked about. She told me about the chicken and waffles and it did not disappoint. They brought out a happy birthday desert for my Mom (without ordering) which was very rich and well put together. Me and my family will 100% be back!!
Tucked off Memorial Dr., this privately owned restaurant serves beautiful flavorful appetizers, main courses, and desserts. I get the filet mignon with chimichurri medium rare. My favorite cocktail is the bottle rocket. If you are lucky, you may get to see the very talented Chef Jonathan.
I cannot recommend this place enough! My husband and I went last night to celebrate our anniversary and everyone was so nice and welcoming. When we walked in, you would think the place would be really loud because of the high ceilings, hard floors, and how many people are seated close together, but we could hear each other really well. The design of the restaurant was done very intentionally with so many soft surfaces, fabric chairs, large curtains, large linen lanterns—so many things to absorb sound. I wasn’t to loud at all. I chose Jonathan’s the Rub specifically for the drink menu. They have so many great options, but I loved that they had my favorite, Paper Plane. Phenomenal! The food was *chef’s kiss* 🤌 we both got steaks, me the filet and my husband the NY strip, both perfectly cooked and flavored. Their fries are unique, with a savory herb seasoning and balances nicely with a sauce they recommend (can’t remember what is was called). The crème brûlée , also my favorite, was amazing and perfect for sharing. And they so sweetly gave us 2 glasses of Prosecco on the house for our anniversary along with a card. The service and the ambience can make or break a restaurant experience in this place was amazing. Like I said, everyone was so welcoming. Our server, Luis, was so sweet and attentive. The event coordinator came and spoke to us and he was wonderful. (I hate that I can’t remember his name, but he was so stylish and funny, we could have talked to him all night!) Thank you so much for making our anniversary so special and I can’t wait to go back!
Second time to partake of the incredibly delicious meals meticulously prepared by this awesome staff. From the “best burger I have ever had” to the Chicken Piccata; Waldorf Salad; Pork Cutlet; Shrimp and Grits; or even the Redfish Pico, our entire group thought their entree was the best! That is impressive in my book. Staff are attentive and personable. Love this place. Sorry we ate so fast we didn’t get photos…well, we did get delicious desserts also!
I’ve visited Jonathan’s The Rub Memorial Green 3 times. Twice with my husband & once with my cousin. I wasn’t disappointed neither time. I LOVE this place. The food is Absolutely DELISH. I can’t recall what I had on my first visit. But second & third I had fish sandwich on brioche bun/ toasted. OMG! Then I had the pork chop & My husband had the shrimp & steak salad…OMG!!! We also had a couple of appetizers…The seasoning on these meals are to die for! Just down right delicious! This is truly my go to spot! Nice atmosphere & customer service!
Britli was an amazing server. This was our very first time visiting this establishment and her service augmented our experience. She was knowledgeable about the menu and she paid attention to our food restrictions to ensure we were pleased and well taken care of. Give her a raise because she definitely deserves it! & get y'all a mimosa flight for brunch. I suggest the Strawberry Hibiscus, Passions Fruit and Pineapple!!!
Those of you who know me, know…. Literally, I travel the world in search of the best chocolate mousse! My #1 spot is a small specialty desert shop in Paris. My #2 is Cafe de Paris in Monoco. Today, I found my #3, surprisingly at Jonathan’s the Rub. Spectacular! Best in the USA I have had. They food was wonderful but even more importantly the service was superb! They significantly changed one of their pasta dishes to meet my requests. Top marks!
Really gorgeous restaurant I was completely underdressed (personal opinion) we were seated right away and Juan was our waiter who had really good tips on the food. T’Angelo who is the event manager was a ball of positive energy and great vibes. He listed all of his favorites for us and checked in with us often to see how we were enjoying everything , loved that. Now the food was BOMB we started with crab cake as an appetizer and baby that aioli sauce and crab cake was absolutely fire. The crab cake was STUFFED with crab then we had the braised Denver roast is stewed for 6 hours so the meat was tender and juicy and it’s served on top of garlic mashed potatoes omg DELICIOUS. Originally we got excited because they serve sea bass and that’s a rare find in restaurants but we ordered the ciopinnio and added sea bass but the tomato based pasta wasn’t for us and the mussel was over cooked and tough. So we just ordered another Denver roast lol. We will definitely be back to try other food and to chalk it up with T’ Angelo for sure !
OMG this restaurant is on point!!! The staff was friendly and attentive. Atmosphere is beautiful and elegant yet comfortable. The food.....was ALL amazing! By far this will become one of my new go to places and recommendations to all. Two meals & mimosas = $60 & well worth it. The Sunday Brunch menu was the Truth 📣🔥🥂
Went for a private tasting before their official opening and the first thing that stood out to me was the ambiance. A clean, elegant feel with an air of sophistication. Though the location is different the hospitality is classic JTR - treat everyone as family. The familial philosophy of the restaurant is a Hallmark of Jonathan and his children. Truly a wonderful experience.
I have been going to JTR since the early days of their first location and their lunchtime cheeseburger was one of my favorite. I have recently been frequenting their Happy Hour at the bar in the Memorial Location. Ceviche was one of the best I have had. Mildy flavorful in the required citric acidic tones. They dressed it with thinly cut veggies not normally in ceviche. However so lightly they still let the seafood be dominant. It was fresh and very chilled the way I feel ceviche should be. Second favorite (sorry picture coming next round) was mac n cheese. Hearty excellent crisp bacon and smoked gouda, I think. Third the bruschetta, melted cheese in softly baked bread and cherry tomatoes is a great combo. The bar is great, it is a deep counter with plenty of room to eat there and share dishes.
Stopped here in February 2025 for a business lunch. The place is easy to get to if you are familiar with the area. It is located in a newer building/development and nicely maintained. A fair amount of parking but I can see it being busy during peak times. Service was exceptional. The wait staff was attentive and prompt. I had a reservation and it is recommended. Several specials and can't go wrong with the dishes. A nice bar area as well for socializing. Definitely recommend. I use this place for business lunches and it works very well.
My husband and I had one of the best meals we have ever had in Houston. The customer service, attention to detail and of course the food was exceptional. We previously visited Jonathan’s The Rub for brunch. The French Toast is the best! Ceviche - Shrimp, salmon, tuna, white fish, red onion, poblano, red jalapeno, ginger, mango, cucumber, cilantro, corn tortilla chips. Watermelon & Goat Cheese Salad Broiled Chilean Sea Bass - maple carrots, cracked Yukon golds, topped w/ panko breadcrumbs Blackened Shrimp & Grits - sauteed vegtables, andouille sausage, vegetable fume Lemon Drop Martini & Sidecar
Awesome place for brunch, and I’m sure other meals, as well! The chicken and waffles was divine and the outside seating is so pretty. Good for small and large groups and would make a super cute place for bridal brunches! Make sure to visit at least once! Next time it’s the salmon Benedict for me!
Heard about this great family-owned restaurant from a lot of our friends so when we finally got the chance to visit this Sunday morning, we were thrilled to experience all that is special about this restaurant! The location has plenty of love the moment we walked in from the warm greeting from the hostess, the wonderful decor and the waitress named Rey, who had a lovely personality and was first-class with your service. We started off with drinks and an amazing appetizer (bruschetta caprese) and our two entrees (shrimp & grits / breakfast club) were absolutely delicious. Our meal was concluded with a visit from a manager named Brandon who made us feel that our business was valued and even spent a few extra minutes talking motorbikes with us when he noticed my tee shirt with a Triumph logo on it. Here’s another thing we noticed and wanted to share, even their cleaning crew and the staff dressed in black were top notch and showed the respect & kindness (in between cleaning the tables) that was a big deal to my wife & I because it reflects on the way the restaurant family treats their team so they go the extra mile to show the patrons the first-class service that we all should expect and receive. Keep up the great work, Jonathan’s The Rub, you have earned two new loyal customers. Check them out and tell ‘em David & Amy sent you.
Great experience at Jonathan’s! I went with friends for the first time and was really impressed. The food was excellent, we didn’t have a dish that we didn’t love. Drinks were great, I enjoyed an Old Fashioned. Service was excellent as well, we would definitely eat here again! Recommend you check it out.
I don't give 5 star unless it is super outstanding food and service and environment. This place hit all the points. We came here for the Houston Restaurant Week menu on Sunday. The brunch menu has many of my favorite and the best is the steak and egg for me. The steak came out superb and flavorful. The meat is tender and seasoned well. The scramble egg is soft similar to the one I had in Japan. I wish they bring back the Japanese Sou ve Pancakes to their menu. Highly recommended to all.
We went for Mother’s Day and enjoyed our meal. Service was a bit slow but the food was great! We enjoyed the frito misto, poblano chicken soup, chicken & waffles, filet mignon and the tuna. We had the chocolate cake and tiramisu for dessert. Everything was flavorful and portion sizes were large
Foodies stop here...Burger was awesome! The chicken and waffles you want be disappointed! Our waiter Cameron was great. She was very friendly and knowledgeable of the menu. Will be more adventurous on my food selection next time around. I started to go back the next day. It was that good
Fabulous! Excellent! Outstanding! Wow! Amazing! Beginning with greeting from friendly hostesses who were more than happy to capture a photo of my friend and I in front of the rose backdrop. David (our waiter) impeccable service, and spot on suggestions to pair appropriate appetizers with main course as well as desserts. Our menu: Calamari, Lobster Bisque, Wedge Salad, Waygu Ribeye, Braised Denver Roast, Chocolate Blackout Cake and Nutella Cheesecake. Superb! Every single dish, superb! David's easy going personality combined with his professionalism made our visit fantastically fun and a historical event to add to our tour of Houston restaurants.
I love this place. Everything I've tried here is good. It is not like the original location. This place is fancier with modern decor, heavy front doors, stocked bar and outside seating. Great date night place if you are not a vegan. MAINS: You can't go wrong with any of the meats. Seafood or beef, they know how to cook it and make it flavorful. The pot roast (don't have a pic, sorry) is to die for. It makes 3 meals for me. The seafood gumbo is made with a lighter rue. I personally prefer a darker rue but it still tasted like a gumbo should taste. SIDES: I don't know how they do it, but the brussel sprouts are so crispy. They are a tad on the salty side but worth it if you are eating it with something else. The mac and cheese is divine. It reminds me of a higher quality version of my childhood cafeteria mac and cheese - because it just disintegrates in your mouth. DRINKS: Similar to the original location, their wines are a bit pricey. Instead of the typical 100% markup you'll see more like a 200% markup unless you go to happy hour. I haven't found a mixed drink that I've really fallen in love with either. But I'm going here for the alcohol. I go for the food.
Jonathan's was highly recommended and they did not disappoint. Made a reservation, showed up a few minutes late and we were walked directly to our table. No waiting. The place was packed, always a good sign. Service was absolutely fantastic! We did not wait long for our appetizers or drinks. Everything was delicious. appetizers, the crab cakes were fresh and delicious. All the crab had a beautiful smell, very fresh. They featured a "Blackened" Redfish w/ lump crab meat and shrimp ( Ponchartrain). Those lumps of white crab meat you see in the picture we're absolutely perfect. Scallops were gigantic and cooked perfectly. Definitely the best restaurant I've eaten at since moving to Houston.
I’ve never got chance to visit the restaurant before it moved this new location, but I’ve heard a lot good things about it. The restaurant lives up to my expectations. Steaks were grilled to perfection, and not to mention the bass, so juicy and delicious! Also many thanks to Britney. It’s a very good dining experience.
I was greeted warmly by the staff when I entered the restaurant, and brought to my seat promptly. The restaurant is beautiful. I could see the kitchen from my seat, watched the cooks do what they do best. My server was friendly and attentive, always checking in to make sure everything is good. My party had the NY Strip, Broiled Chilean Sea Bass, Roast 1/2 Chicken, and Smoked Bone-in Pork Chop as entrées. We ended our meals with Coconut Cream Pie, Chocolate Blackout Cake, and Carrot Cake for desserts. The entrées were all cooked perfectly, and seasoned well. The garlic mash was yummy. I had the sea bass which was moist and flaky. The panko crumbs at the top created the contrast in texture, which I appreciate. The sauce served together with the fish was sweet. It paired well with the sea bass. Scrumptious! Our desserts were delicious too. They were not overly sweet. I prefer the carrot cake because the cream cheese frosting was good. Making a reservation is highly recommended especially for big groups. The restaurant gets crowded fast.
The food was exceptional, but it was Roman’s service that truly made our meal special. He is a star waiter who turns a simple brunch out into a delightful experience. We left Johnathan ‘s The Rub feeling genuinely cared for and appreciated, all thanks to Roman’s outstanding service. We will definitely be back, and we hope to see Roman again for another splendid afternoon!
Unique experience with a fun vibe. We enjoyed a drink at the bar and then a wonderful dinner. Service was great as was the foods. I had the Blackened redfish and my wife had the sea bass, which both were fantastic. We were celebrating our 29th anniversary and glad we picked Johnathan's.
Can't say enough about this place... And tonight exceeded all expectations. The food, the service, the attention to detail, what an incredible meal and perfect place to spend our anniversary. The entire staff knew it was our anniversary and made it a point to stop by and say congratulations. Roses on the table, bottle of wine chilled when we arrived, champagne toast to finish... Everything from the second we walked in to the second we walked out was first class. This is the perfect place to spend a nice night with friends, to grab a drink at the bar, meet after work, or celebrate your special moment. Thanks to all, especially Kameron our server, best service we've ever had anywhere.. First class all the way
We were seated in the winter wonderland tent which was festive for the holidays. The waiter was wonderful and made great suggestions for appetizers ( sweet chili shrimp and crab cakes) entree ( blackened redfish over grits and roasted chicken over mashed potatoes that was moist and seasoned to the bone). Princess personally decorated our desert plate and recommend the Nutella cheesecake that was deelicious😋. Can’t wait to return and try more dishes.
UPDATE 1/25/25 STILL OUTSTANDING. Many thanks to Lee and Kyla for great hospitality and superb service. And thank you VERY MUCH to the talented chefs for their incredible food. Simply fantastic. Truly appreciate the black and blue Triple Smoke burger. Perfection on a plate. UPDATE 4/4/24: Still awesome. Great service, great food, GREAT people. Brandon (Manager) and Abby (Server) really took care of our special lunch needs today. Really appreciate their courtesy, professionalism and tweeking my order. They really care about their customers. Simply awesome. We appreciate you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. ------------------------- UPDATE 01/13/24 Still AWESOME. Great food. Great service. Flavor town on Memorial Drive. ------------------------------- UPDATE 10/21/23: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great people. Great food. Lobster Bisque FANTASTIC! ----------------------------------- Quality of product and service reflects quality of management and brand. Always. Jonathan's The Rub delivers. Fantastic restaurant. Fantastic people. A new fan favorite here. We tried the Triple Smoke Burger and Chicken Fried Steak. 👍👍👍👍👍 Our waiter, Juan, was excellent. Jonathan's The Rub uniquely executes a genuine and perfect balance between humility and swagger. The food is high quality, creatively fresh comfort food that is elevated without being snooty. The opposite of boring. Look forward to exploring their eklectic, real-deal menu.
Visited for Sunday Brunch and the experience was tremendous! The decor and environment was perfect for brunch. The service was very prompt and the food was delicious. We had the opportunity to try various dishes from the menu and they were all delight. From the bacon wrapped scallops, to the steak and eggs, as well as the Houston salad (their version of a Southwest Chicken salad). I definitely recommend this spot for a brunch destination.
I was there on Wednesday afternoon with a girlfriend and again on Sunday with my husband and our friends. This upscale restaurant has a beautiful interior and great ambience. Outdoor seatings are available and has a more relaxed and casual feel. Great selection of food and generous food potion sizes. They also have brunch menu which available throughout the week. I vouch for their Chicken masala pappardelle. Fantastic! In fact all their foods are delicious. The crab cakes were moist with big chunks of crab meat. The steak cooked to perfection. I wish I had more room for a dessert. I’ll try next time. Service was efficient. Staff were all friendly and attentive.
This was our FIRST visit to this restaurant and all I can say is THIS PLACE is TRULY a HIDDEN DIAMOND!!! EVERYTHING and EVERYONE from the hostesses greeting & seating us, the appetizers, the drinks, the food, the atmosphere, our waiter Rolando, and T’Angelo (the Event Planner) checking on us was TRULY AMAZING!!! We ordered the Salmon, which was very flavorful! We also ordered the Roasted Chicken which was moist and DEEE-licious!!! Every time we ordered, our food, came within a reasonable time!!! We DEFINITELY plan on dining HERE again!!! Thank you JTR for THIS AMAZING Dining EXPERIENCE!! Don’t hesitate to give this spot a try! You won’t be disappointed!
Food was good but a little on the salty side. Wagyu steak was seasoned well but could have been much tastier if it was cooked to how it was supposed to be which was medium rare. The Broiled Chilean Sea Bass tasted buttery and although it was on the sweeter side I enjoyed it. I would recommend a friend to come here for a nice fine dining experience.
Fabulous! I had an event there and everything was just great and went smoothly. Teangelo and Lili were both very cooperative and accommodating to our requests. Teangelo’s ideas for some of the food, drinks presentation and decoration were great. We had the event in the patio area, they had a tent beautifully decorated. The event staff were very efficient, accommodating and friendly. Food was amazing. I received only but good comments from my guest. We are needed up very satisfied and happy with this event!.
The highlights: phenomenal service, beautiful decor and delicious food. I attended a birthday dinner for a dear friend of mine. We shared a couple appetizers, lobster tacos and crab cakes, then enjoyed some wine and wonderful conversation with the other friends. We had a group of 7. Everyone's food looked delicious! Our waiter was terrific; very attentive and friendly. My wine glass was never empty. I would classify this place as upscaled, yet casual and comfortable. I do not like stuffy restaurants, but I do like a classy cozy environments to dine and relax. This place hits all the right points. They have a nice bar at the front perfect for happy hour after work. The restrooms were exceptionally clean. I will definitely be back for another enjoyable evening.
Jonathan’s The Rub is a true haven for steak lovers. Their steaks are nothing short of phenomenal—perfectly cooked, beautifully seasoned, and bursting with flavor in every bite. The quality of the meat is outstanding, tender and juicy with a perfectly seared crust that highlights the richness of the cut. Whether you choose the filet, ribeye, or New York strip, each steak is a masterpiece, cooked to your exact preference. The sides, like their creamy mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables, complement the main course flawlessly. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the service is impeccable, making every visit feel special. If you’re looking for a steak experience that’s second to none, Jonathan’s The Rub is the place to go.
Great meal at Jonathan’s Rub on Memorial and fantastic service by Kylah . Food 8.6/10 Service 10/10 Ambiance 10/10 Positives : Overall food was great , good timing on appetizers and entrees from the kitchen. Staff worked together as a team. Kylah our waitress was spot on. Lunch was reasonable priced for restaurants in the area Improvements : serve bread with the shrimp creole to soak up all the juices.
Jonathan’s The Rub is fantastic! The restaurant is upscale, but has a somewhat casual vibe. Our waiter Jeremias, was exceptional. A new waitress, Nidia, shadowed and was exceptional as well. Nothing about her demeanor, attentiveness, or overall service gave even a slight hint of “new employee.” The food was exceptional! The blackened redfish New Orleans (with creole mustard butter sauce, jumbo lump crab, and grits), as well as the pan-seared salmon (with mango citrus glaze, dried cherries, and rice) were perfect. I’m not a fan of many sweet foods or mango, but OMG the salmon glaze with slices of mango is otherworldly (I can’t believe I’m writing this). I’ll be back within a week or so.
Aug 2024 - an upscale cozy place in the Memorial area serving fantastic food for all palettes of even the pickiest esters. The food is high quality and prepared with presentation in mind. It tasted fantastic. The menu has a wide variety of selections with a Saturday & Sunday brunch options. Mimosas were the drink of the day served in a unique way with added juice DIY fashion. Our waiter was great. His service was spot on all throughout the meal. The atmosphere of this place is cozy and quaint. I really liked the cookbooks all over the restaurant. There's a large outdoor area for your outdoor enjoyment. So, for a great meal with great service when out in the Memorial area, stop by Jonathan's The Rub.
A friend recommended this place to me, so I came here for my birthday and it did not disappoint. The breakfast was excellent. I ordered the French toast, grits, and sausage. The French toast was thick, fluffy, and had the perfect crisp on the outside. The orange slices on top added a nice citrusy touch, and that warm syrup brought it all together. The grits were creamy, well-seasoned, and had little pops of flavor from the green onions, definitely not your average side. Everything came out hot, fresh, and flavorful. The atmosphere was chill, service was on point, and I left full and happy. I’ll definitely be back!
I was craving a good brunch and landed in Jonathan's the Run. We had pomegranate hibiscus mimosas to drink. So refreshing! To eat we shared the lobster tacos (A+) a delicious cold lobster salad on a corn tortilla, bacon wrapped scallops (A), crab cake (D) missing the sear, and red fish and grits (B) delicious but a little overcooked. Overall, it was a great brunch.
Beautiful location and wonderful atmosphere to accompany the outstanding menu. We had the Denver Pot Roast, Tuna Osaka, and the Chilean Sea Bass. Paired with Aperol Spritz, a Cosmopolitan, and a Sauvignon Blanc. The cocktails were as visually appealing and they were Devine. All lunches were perfectly cooked and aestechically inviting to enjoy. Can't wait to go back. It was the perfect place to Celebrate a birthday.
Party of 12! This restaurant was very accommodating for the amount of guests we had. Everyone had rave reviews on the food they had. This is not my first time here and it won’t be my last. Cameron was our server and she was phenomenal. I’ve met Jonathon himself and he’s very personable. Do yourself a favor and try this place out!
Spent 14 weeks in Houston this past winter. Ended up starting off in an Airbnb close to this restaurant and tried it on a whim because it was close and their food looked delicious. What a lucky coincidence. Jonathan’s the rub is phenomenal. Wonderful staff (Tori and Angel were the two servers we had, top tier- attentive and personable). Angel even remembered our order when we went in for our last time, talk about attention to detail. Foods and drinks are some of the best in Houston. Can’t recommend the chicken fried chicken and the tropic thunder for a drink enough. You won’t be disappointed! Will be back next time we’re in Houston, no doubt!
I made reservations for 11 guests for a birthday dinner at Jonathan’s – Memorial Green, and our experience was absolutely excellent! The food was delicious, the service was attentive, and we were treated with great care throughout the evening. We even had the chance to connect with their event coordinator, which made the night feel extra special. I truly appreciate how seamless and enjoyable everything was. I’ll definitely be dining here again!
Food was good but I just say fish and high was the red snapper was extremely soft after being fried extra crispy. Fish was big so maybe this is the cause. Fried chicken and shrimp was amazing. Drinks were good. Lemon drop was excellent. Area was safe and no issues. Quiet calm and very well maintained. I’ll be back for the gumbo
All around great experience here! There are many options for a great meal in Houston, but Jonathan's The Rub was top notch. They offered a delicious meal, excellent service, and the staff was all around professional making it a great experience. I don't always give 5 stars but this was well deserved.
The atmosphere was excellent. The food was prepared perfectly. We had the calamari as an appetizer for the table and it was a big hit. We ended up all the getting steaks and shared the brussel sprouts with the table. All our stakes were prepared perfectly.
First time coming to Jonathan’s The Rub. Was simply amazed at the hard working staff and kitchen crew, especially during lunch hours. Food was served fresh and was delicious (I enjoyed the salmon with mango citrus glaze and dried cherries); the flavors bursted in my mouth. We also had the privilege to speak with the manager, who was friendly, professional, and made us feel welcomed. Highly recommended.
The food and service were outstanding. The old fashioned in my opinion is the BEST in the City and I have tried many in my time. The crowding in of tables was the reason for the rating on atmosphere. It felt unwelcomeing and rushed. It's a beautiful restaurant. They also have outdoor options.
Food was awesome. My group had blackened fish, eggplant Parmesan, steamed mussels, and steak. Staff was on top of everything, especially the water refill. Never an empty glass.
Delicioso 😍
We had such a beautiful anniversary dinner at Jonathan on the Rug, and the experience truly exceeded our expectations. Even though we arrived close to closing time, the hostess went out of her way to seat us in the dining room after learning it was our anniversary. That small gesture meant so much to us. Our waiter and the entire staff were incredibly kind and attentive, and they even surprised us with complimentary champagne and dessert to help us celebrate. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, and the service was outstanding from start to finish. What really stood out was how genuinely thoughtful everyone was — it felt personal, not just like “restaurant service.” They helped make our anniversary feel truly special and memorable. We highly recommend Jonathan on the Rug and will definitely be back. Thank you to the entire team for a wonderful evenin
I had a basic breakfast, but it was delicious. There were some much richer, elegant looking items on the menu that I chose not to partake in because of a diet. BUT next time... going for the gusto and going to have one of those amazing looking cocktails on the menu!
2022 Update. Johnathan's the Rub Memorial is still good. The tomato basil bread is excellent. The Chicken, Grits & WAFFLES are average, needs seasoning definitely. The service is always awesome. FYI, first time having their $20 lunch special. Due to Houston Restaurant Weeks, we tried both Johnathan's the Rub. This is for Johnathan's the Rub Memorial. Yes, we had reservations, so our wait was quick. We ordered. We received our food quickly. The Chicken Pamassean was excellent!!! The Shrimp & Grits were good, we hadn't notice it was Shrimp, Scallops & Grits when ordering. No liked the scallops.. The fish tacos were good. What we absolutely did not like the beets or the brunt over fried Brussel Sprouts. All the appetizers were delicious, especially the steamed dumplins. The BREAD PUDDING was over the top, hands down the most fantastic bread pudding we ever had. The texture was firm, not soggy, flavorful and beautifully service. Parking is bad. We will continue to go to Johnathan's the Rub Katy 1 -10. It's more casual and the food was better.
My husband took me for an early mother’s day lunch! It was phenomenal! Beautiful atmosphere. Delightful service. Great cuisine! The shrimp appetizer was a bit too sweet. I do feel like the pot roast sandwich was a bit dry & the cole slaw was a little much as a sandwich topper & the broccoli side was interesting but a smidgen undercooked. I must say: my soup was delicious, my husband's scallops were divine, the coconut creme pie was heavenly! I had never had this dessert & it definitely tasted hand made no processed boxed food there! Can't wait to go back!
The atmosphere in and out is very nice. The service is solid. We dined outside and it was a nice space. We ordered the dumplings fried 5/5, brussel sprouts 5/5, chicken Picatta 4/5. Ordered special red fish pontchartrain 3/5 every thing was good, but the pontchartrain sauce. It was odd. It was like a carrot purée and not great. Ample wine, beer, and cocktail choices.
We had our anniversary dinner here. I had the Osaka Tuna which was prepared perfectly rare with a light crust on a foundation of spinach with a light craisen sauce over it. I chose the Brussels sprouts as a side, which were lovely. My wife had the wagyu filet, again prepared perfectly medium with a mushroom and onion sauce to drizzle over it. She also had the mac & cheese side (a standard favourite of hers) which again was wonderful. Our server was well accomplished which contributed to a very beautiful experience.
My family and I enjoyed Jonathan's The Rub with the exception of how our eggs were cooked. We asked for scambled, the chef said no although eggs were on the menu. We told our server we would take them fried, the chef sent them out over easy. We do not eat raw eggs, so we asked that they cook longer. By this time I am sure the chef was sick of us so they sent the eggs out hard as bricks. Our poor server (who was great) was mortified. Needless to say, we kept them. I did not eat mine, my aunt peeled off the overcooked portion and ate hers. If you read my other reviews, I rarely send anything back! I understand policy and procedure, it was not brunch; however eggs were on the menu as an add on. So we added egg on to our meal. The menu did not state you cannot add them on to other meals and only served over easy. We were disappointed in our meal:( But the other meals were great!
Jonathan's The Rub at Memorial Drive offers a decent three-course meal experience. The Gumbo soup was a flavorful standout, rich and savory. While the braised Denver beef was good, it didn't quite reach exceptional. The bread pudding, though tasty, was a bit too dense for my preference. The service was impeccable, and the warm, inviting atmosphere made for a pleasant evening. We will certainly return to explore more of their menu.
It’s a nice, new and clean place but I have to be honest that I don’t find the food very flavorful. They give you a lot so if you like large portions of average food, this would be a good place.
While visiting my sister in Houston, we decided to give this place a try. The restaurants decor was delightful with an upscale vibe. Our server was just OK, not sure he had the training to make dining out in an upscale establishment an exciting experience. We ordered the bacon wrapped scallops as an appetizer. The portion was small and came out undercooked, the bacon on the outside was fatty not crisp and the inside of the scallop was quite translucent. We sent it back and the second attempt was somewhat better. My sister ordered the Hemingway Margarita. The first round was fabulous and the second one was different in flavor and not as appealing. We decided to split the special which was a New York strip steak with chimichuri, asparagus and roasted potatoes. The steak was perfectly cooked and delicious. For dessert I ordered chocolate cake. Not spectacular, lacking that intense chocolate flavor and rich frosting that makes chocolate cake so fun to eat. Overall the prices did not bring the level of entertainment you would expect. The food presentation was outstanding. Had there been great service consistent drink preparation and mouth watering cuisine this could have been unforgettable.
Came in without a reservation, and it looked pretty full. Party of 2. They said it was a 5 minute wait. Okay, sure, no problem. 10 minutes later another party of 2 without a reservation came in. They were told, oh, we can sit you at a high top, full service. Immediately got seated. 5 more minutes later we are still waiting. Hope the food is good and I need to change my review. Edit: the food was pretty good, churro waffles and shrimp and asparagus omelette. I probably won't go back if I don't have a reservation.
I would give this spot a 2.7/5. I came here on a Wednesday night so thankfully parking wasn’t too hard to find. The interior is polished and the bathrooms are nice and clean. For drinks, I started off with a Caramel Macchiato Martini. This was recommended by the waitress when I asked her for the bar’s sweetest drink. Yes, it was sweet but it was also very boozy and had a strong alcohol aftertaste so I wasn’t able to finish it but if you’re someone who enjoys both sweet and boozy, this might be right up your alley! I got the bacon wrapped scallops for appetizers and even though the seasoning and flavor was decent, it was unfortunately too salty. For the entrée, I ended up getting the 16oz Traditional Ribeye. Contrary to the scallops, the steak was severely undersalted. As for the mashed potato, this was unfortuantely also a flop. The flavor of the mashed potato was more similar to a potato salad since it had that sour aftertaste as if there was a vinagerette-based dressing/seasoning in there. Regardless, I wasn’t the biggest fan. Overall, the restaurant’s layout was pretty, the service was fine, but the food didn’t do it for me.
The atmosphere and cocktails were really nice, but food was not outstanding, especially for the price point. Both taste and presentation. Red fish was bland, tuna was tossed in a soupy amount of soy sauce and liquid.
Stopped here for lunch for the first time, the food was incredible and so was the place. Great menu options and we were seated promptly. Only reason for 3 stars was the service. We spent well over $100 on lunch and I asked for a cup to go of my iced tea and lemonade and the waitress said she couldn’t give me a drink to go without charging me. Super odd for a nice restaurant, left me feeling weird. Glad the food was good!
New York strip was more than 50% fat and mashed potatoes had a tangy taste like there was a bag ingredient. Bit frustrated too when the wine on the menu was out. Oh well… went by Shake Shack in the way home to get something edible. Manager did swing by and ask how our dinner was. Informed us they would “try better next time.”
We arrived on time for our 7pm reservation. As we had been informed, the main dinning room was entirely taken up with a party. We were seated and our waitress eventually stopped by to take our drink order. It was a while before she returned. She was very pleasant, although minimally attentive. When our dinner finally arrived, mine was cold. Not even lukewarm....cold. My side arrived 5 minutes later and was hot. I had ordered the 8 oz fillet, medium and added on the two U-8 scallops and a side of Brussels spouts. The waitress was visibly perturbed when I mentioned my dissatisfaction with my meal. The manager arrived a short time later and addressed my friend, ignoring me, though she was enjoying her fish. Later the owner himself stopped by to dump his brand of vitriol on me. The end result was a wet mess of a steak delivered to me. See pic below. There was no kindness or concessions offered. I paid, the full amount; boxed it up and fed it to my dog.
I gave this a bad review due to one of the managers' attitude. I reserved a table but didn't get honored due to their own internal mistake. This manager treated me like it was my problem. Never said sorry and told me either cancel or sit at a place not intended to reserve. However, I do appreciate the other manager called Micheal, later apologized to me for the situation.
We love going to Jonathan’s and enjoy the great food. But today my wife and I were disappointed, we took our kids and 2 family members there today 8/13/25. We got to the counter and asked for an an outside table for respect being that we were casual dress and kids with their school clothes. The manager approached the hostess and told her to seat us outside and she is like they requested outside. We felt discriminated by the manager. We sat outsides service was courteous but made us felt that we were not welcome there. The food was great and enjoy a few delicious appetizer. By the way our bill was $465 Disappointed family
Be careful booking special events… I agreed to an event in the Blue Room via email and they sent me a contact for a tent outside, which I didn’t realize until the event. It’s was pouring rain, guests stuff got soaked, it was loud, humid. It sucked. Total bait and switch and their minimum was the same as inside. Total scam. When I emailed about it, no response. I’ll never be back.
