Enjoyed a wonderful dinner last night with family. It was really busy but we were seated right away with our reservation in a cozy booth. The food was hot and delicious. Two in our party had the Bison meatloaf with an incredible smoked Gouda Mac and cheese. Large portion with leftovers to take home. I had a short rib stroganoff that melted in your mouth it was so tender. We picked the chocolate tasting to share for dessert. It is delicious and enough for 3 people maybe even 4. The chocolate crème brûlée is heaven. Thanks to Jade for serving us and being so friendly. I highly recommend making a reservation and enjoying the independence square. It is all decorated for Christmas with fun Christmas decorations ideal for pictures. Make sure to get one on the Christmas sofa in front of the theater.

Outstanding Valentine menu and food was fantastic! This restaurant has been on the square for a few years and never disappoints.

Jade was awesome and her service was exceptional! ….What a wonderful ambiance to spend an evening out enjoying incredible and delicious food. If ever in Independence, Missouri, please stop by Ophelia’s.

Atmosphere is upscale and cozy with moody colors and lighting. Arrived for a late lunch around 3pm ordered the ($25) wygu burger on a gf bun and sweet potatoe waffle fries ($2 upcharge). They were able to accommodate my request for no bacon that comes on it. The waiter, Gill, was very polite and professional. Great place to stop on for a nice lunch!

We ate at the restaurant and loved the food. I got the Wagyu Hamburger and my husband got the salmon raspberry salad. The flavor profiles were delicious. We’d definitely come again.

This was our first visit to Ophelia's Restaurant, and we were thoroughly impressed—not just by the delicious food, but also by the exceptional service and wonderful atmosphere. Our group of eight was comfortably seated near the windows, close to where live musicians performed. Initially, I was concerned the music might be too loud, but it turned out to be perfect, creating a delightful ambiance without interrupting our conversation. The server's recommendation of fried chicken was spot-on—it was excellent! We also enjoyed the carrot cake and beignets for dessert. The carrot cake, though a bit dense, was still delicious, and while the beignets weren't the traditional style you'd get at Cafe Du Monde, they were tasty in their own unique way. We had a fantastic evening and can't wait to come back!

what a wonderful restaurant!!! we choose to come here for restaurant week since we hadn't been yet. (we did not stay in one of the rooms) we were not disappointed! the space is lovely, not too dark and not too bright. tables are spaced out so you don't feel like you are sitting the the table next to you. the service was excellent! our server was amazing. then the food! so good! the chicken was perfection and the salad was so good!!! the deserts were exceptional! we will be returning soon for lunch/brunch. thank you to the owners and staff, you have a great thing going.

I just had my wedding and wedding reception at Ophelia's this weekend! We rented the platform which was an amazing price. The food was so good and we stayed in the suite upstairs. A one stop shop of 5 star service and food. Thank you so much Stephanee & Garth and their entire staff.

Came here for dinner while in town for business. My meal was incredible starting with the complimentary hot bread with butter and garlic confit. For my main I had the salmon with whipped potatoes and an extra side of spinach and mushrooms (a garlic lovers dream). Capped it all off with the cinnamon sugar beignets that were melt-in-your-mouth soft. Everything was perfectly seasoned and fresh. The ambiance was also excellent with attentive service from Randy and live jazz. Thank you, Ophelia’s!

This place is always a delight. They have new booths in the front and the people watching is even better. They proudly display the LGBTQ flag in their window, and it is always a welcome sight.

Great stay in quiet, spacious room with good A/C control and most comfortable bed we’ve had in many hotel stays. We split the half-chicken dinner between two of us and it was outstanding.

Wonderful experience and yummy food. Small plates aren’t so small! Empanadas and tacos were delicious! Strawberry 🍓 Salmon salad was mouthwatering! Our beautiful Japanese waitress Yayoi was so sweet, attentive, and knowledgeable. Thank you Chef Bobby for your creative dishes !

We’ve heard nothing but good things about Ophelia’s - we had it on our list to try during Restaurant Week but it just didn’t happen. We have a YouTube channel about all the things to see/do/eat in Kansas City so we’re always itching to try new places…not just to try it ourselves but also to share it on our platforms for other people to check it out too! We had a lovely experience… kinda felt bad that we were more casually dressed, but we still had a great experience. Our food was great, the live musicians were absolutely lovely, and the environment felt warm and magical. The apple crisp was SO SO delicious.

Who knew this amazing little gem was tucked away in Independence! This restaurant is worth the drive or, better yet, stay in what used to be Harry Truman's office, now a beautiful suite of rooms after listening to live piano jazz!!! I was so impressed by the beautiful ambiance, but it was the menu that blew me away!! Fabulous food, exceptional cocktails, and a fun historic feel that will make you want to⁹ come back!!

My husband and I decided to try Ophelias this evening for a weeknight date. Based on reviews and photos we had seen online, it looked like a eclectic menu and we were excited to try it out. Upon arrival, we were momentarily disappointed to find they were serving a limited menu this evening while adjusting to new routines and dishes under a new Executive Chef. Any disappointment went out the window when our first dish arrived. The salads our server, Randy, brought out left us stunned, as did the rack of lamb and hanger steak that followed. We traded bites of each thing we ordered, as everything we tried was an indulgence. Since it was a slower weeknight, we had the delight of meeting several members of their warm and inviting staff, including their new chef, Erick Brown; Randy, and Carri. Erick brings loads of experience to his new cohort, and we enjoyed conversing with him. Since this was our first time in, we cant compare Chef Browns dishes to the prior chef, but if the limited menu is any indication of the dishes to come, we will surely be back. Can't say enough nice things about the atmosphere, food, and staff.

Good wine list. Above average craft cocktails. We had an Old Fashion and a Manhattan. The Old Fashion was great. I think they muddled a blackberry for a nice flavor. Apparently they also do wine dinners, but we were only passing through town.

Our Friday night date this week was our first visit to this restaurant and it was wonderful! Our server, Luke, was very attentive and accommodating - took excellent care of us! The food was excellent, especially the Granny Smith apple coleslaw! - was so good we had to take a to go order with us! Will definitely be back!!

This review is about the restaurant only. We live in Independence so we haven’t stayed in the Inn although it is something we have talked about. Drinks - amazing! They flavor infuse the alcohol themselves and they pour heavy (strong drinks☺️). The cocktails are garnished simply but in a charming way. The staff is better than average- attentive without invasive. Professional, uniforms are classic and they are always clean. The finishing touch would be if the boxed take-home for diners. The real treat is the food! I’m a picky eater but rarely request something alterations because everything they make is freshly prepared, beautiful, and delicious!! We would really like to have the corn fritters and lemon custard tart back on the menu but also we love trying the new options. The chicken chorizo appetizer is so freaking delicious! It is obvious that there is a true chef in the kitchen. I’m proud to have this level of dining in our home town. About the area around the restaurant/ inn: President Harry Truman was from Independence, Mo. Right across the street from Ophelia’s is Clinton’s Soda Shoppe. Harry’s worked there when he was 14 yrs old. On the opposite corner sits the Historic Court house where Harry was a judge. At the north end of the block is the historic jail which is said to be haunted. Independence, Mo tap water was voted the best tap water in the country. It’s naturally soft as it still comes from a spring. There are several little shops on the square (the blocks around the courthouse) all are charming for different reasons.

We came in a bit after the dinner rush and immediately loved the atmosphere of live music playing softly in the background. The smaller one page menu was exactly what we were looking for and while the price point was higher, the quality of the food and service felt well worth it. Elaine was an amazing server and when my dish came out dissatisfactory, she immediately took care of it and was so wonderful during the whole experience. My husband's ribeye was stellar and our drinks were delicious. Overall a wonderful experience and I highly recommend.

We had a fantastic dinner, came at almost 8 PM and were the last couple in the restaurant by 830, felt like we our own live concert by Joey Marlowe and Luke our server was fantastic, so attentive and great recommendations! The bartender made great cosmos, and the best espresso martini ever! Highly recommend you make this one of your nice dinners out in Independence!!

Came here for Valentines Day. The hostess did a great job waiting on people to be seated, cleaning tables, and attending the bar as well. Gave her a tip because she deserved it. I gave it 4 out of 5 because even though the food was good, the service was great, but the steak was undercooked. I ordered medium done, and it was more like medium rare.

The Sunday brunch was super good and delicious! The display was so beautiful and neat!!!.. The service is always A1 and will continue to go back!. The regular menu is just as good as well and will be back ASAP! I took my mom for Mother's Day ans she too loved it!. The Food was bomb and worth every penny!..

We dined here for Sunday brunch. The food was excellent. Wonderful biscuits served with a berry jam, also a fruit flavored butter and then regular butter. The fruit salad was very fresh. Normally it doesn't eat fruit. He actually loved this fruit salad. I had a side salad and the salad dressing was freshly made. I highly recommend this restaurant.

This was my first visit to Ophelia’s and though it is quite a trek from my house, it was worth the drive. We went for restaurant week and the menu was fantastic. The crispy Brussels were my favorite part of the meal, they were perfect. I got the bison meatloaf and mashed potatoes, I am still thinking about how good it was. Our service was friendly and the restaurant provided a great date night experience. I can’t wait to go back to try more menu items!

Delicious lunch. Very accommodating to my food allergies and dislikes. The Basque cheesecake was a perfect dessert to share. I’ll be back to Ophelia’s!

Service was VERY good. I love that it’s located right on the Independence square. I got the salmon and it was perfect. I got their house dressings (I couldn’t decide between the house and ranch so I got both- good choice) the bread was good with the butter and seasonal butter. Atmosphere 10/10 we will be back for sure. Was a great experience and we were well taken care of!

Had dinner with my brother (his first time) at Ophelia’s. We enjoyed the atmosphere and live music. I wish the food had been better. It’s hard to pay $155 for mediocre food. Will not be back

A very elegant dining experience. The booths and lighting made for a quiet and intimate meal. The live music wasn't too loud for the room and provided a sophisticated atmosphere. Lots of independent shops within walking distance.

I attended a birthday/cocktail party serving great hors d'oeuvres. First time there. Had a very lovely time. The servers and attendants were very helpful and prompt. One employee probably prevented me falling on a step down.

Amazing location! The restaurant was right below the inn and we had the braised beef ribs with mashed potatoes. The bread was soooo good and the chicken/chorizo dip was tasty. It was all delicious! Great service and friendly staff. It's a lovely quaint location on town square and it's so nice to eat and go straight upstairs to the room. Will definitely visit again!

One of the best meals ive had in a long time. The Caesar salad gave Shock and Awe with the granny smith apple chunks and thick crisp bacon in a Ceasar.... such balance and a palate pleaser! We enjoyed the Steak Frite with Crispy brussels and bacon.... CHEFS KISS! Also had the Catch of the Day which was Halibut and jumbo shrimp cooked to what I dare say is perfection in a creamy lemon butter caper sauce. This chef is creative and the meal was delightful and delicious. Will be back very very soon.

Having worked in a 5 -Star dining room as a Wine Sommelier , it takes a lot to impress me . Had an Amazing dinner at Ophelia's on the square in Independence Missouri and I was impressed . The Wine list selections made me happy and they even had my favorite wine, reasonably priced ! Appetizers were yummy, steaks were cooked perfectly and the sauce came on the side was tasty . Our waitress gave exceptional service , helping to make the evening all the more special . Thank You Ophelia's, I just love it when great food , great drinks and great service come together for a great evening . Special shout out to a maniger who helped to look for my keys, Thank You ! We will be back ...

Great special occasion restaurant. My wife and I each had a house salad as a starter. Our entree was the split half fried chicken. Each 1/4 had a different batter. We finished by splitting the creme brulee. It had three different flavors side by side in a partitioned dish. All the items were well prepared and presented. We also had the bread service with seasonal butter.

M

Food was phenomenal. So so good. One of the best meals I've had in years. Service was great. Friendly and thoughtful staff. Manager came and checked on us a few times to make sure everything was going well with our visit. Restaurant was clean. It was a little expensive but worth it imo

We had the pleasure of having Nicole T as our waiter. She was amazing very thoughtful in regards to getting our toddlers meal out with the appetizers! To her timely check ins, we had a great experience!

Excellent dinner at Ophelias! We had the prosciutto wrapped shrimp with butternut and corn risotto which was wonderful. The stars of the day were the fall apple/ginger/bourbon mule and the apple cobbler dessert. Always look forward to dinner here.

Here for KCRW: Had French Onion soup, Chicken & Shrimp Pasta, and Pistachio Carrot Cake. The pasta was good but honestly not my favorite. Carrot cake was amazing. My cousin enjoyed the beef dish. Not giving 5 stars because I felt the KCRW menu online was deceptive. 3-Course dinner was listed at $40 per person but they were charging $6 for dessert. Even the menus were conflicting in-person they said 3-Course $40 at the top but above the 3rd course it stated an additional $6. My party thought this must be a typo from the lunch menu. We proceeded to order for three courses and were surprised to find desert was an additional $6 when the bill came out. I certainly would not have chosen to eat here had I known 2 courses were $40. The server made it right with management, but it really did feel deceptive considering every other restaurant week place I visited over the years is very clear with their menu and prices up-front.

Came here for Restaurant Week 2024. I always drive past this place and wondered about it. I'm glad my wife and I stopped in. The restaurant layout was nice and looked to be a great space for date night. Our server, Steve, was kind and super helpful. My RW items selected were the French Onion soup, Chicken & Shrimp Pasta, and Pistachio Carrot Cake. My wife ordered the Citrus Grilled Salmon. The food tasted great. The salmon had a nice crisp bite on the exterior but maintained a nice level of flakiness. The chicken and shrimp pasta had a delicious creme sauce that tied the dish together. I'd definitely go back.

This was a first time for my hubby and I to stay in Kansas City. The room was lovely and the staff were friendly. Unfortunately, we didn’t know that most restaurants and places shut down about 2:30pm on Sundays and barely anything opens on Mondays. Meaning no breakfast. So, if you don’t have a car, it’s better to look elsewhere if you plan on staying in this location on Sundays & Mondays.

A
Amy Frusha

My salmon was seasoned well and cooked perfectly. The snap peas were tasty.. I just prefer steamed but did not ask how they were prepared. Caesar salad would have been so much better if they had used half the amount of dressing. Im not a fan of soggy salad. But again, that's just me. Service though was impeccable. Very attentive and friendly. Very clean. They'd added outside seating since I was there last and it was very inviting.

M
Monica Dumun

Went for restaurant week. Crab salad had hardly any crab, definitely NOT lump crab. Taste was still good. Husband had steak with the oscar addition. The seafood added was generous, but the scallop was way overcooked. The soda flight was tasty, but one of the ice creams had freezer burn. Service was excellent. Big shout out to our server she was great! Would not go back unless it was for a deal like restaurant week. Other than that I would say it was overpriced for the quality of food. They try but don't meet the bar. And I have eaten at enough high end restaurants to know the difference.

Very nice. People were kind. Good food great location. My wife enjoyed it. Could of been less expensive it is independence missouri. Maybe the piano in the corner playing for ambiance. Still a nice place to eat.

We would’ve loved to leave this place a great review, but unfortunately our experience with the service fell short. Our waitress brought our drinks and took our order, but after that she only checked on us twice—and both times were after we had already asked other servers for assistance. She would disappear for long stretches, and we had to rely on other staff for refills. At the end of our meal, we asked her for the check and a to-go box, but she was gone again for a long period of time, so we ended up asking another waiter for help. There was only one other table occupied at the time, and she wasn’t even assigned to that table. That said, the restaurant itself is great and the food is always delicious. My eggs were slightly undercooked, but they were quickly fixed and still tasted amazing. We truly enjoy this place and hope the service improves next time.

I found this restaurant to be extremely non-traditional in their servings. Their food was extremely good though! However, for a price tag of $250 for five dinners, I personally thought that was a little too high, Compared to other restaurants in, and around, the surrounding area. This place seems to be really prestigious to his clients.

We visited 9/22, and per usual it was a lovely experience. The service is always great, and the live music was a plus. Normally I'd always give five stars but this time fell just a little short. We started with the friend green tomatoes which were delish. The true star of the menu is their Caesar salad. I swear it's the best caesar salad in town, I get it every time. We both ordered the ribeye as out entrees and this is where we were a bit sad. The steaks were beautiful cuts and cooked to a perfect medium rare. The bad thing was that they were SO salty. Like superrrrr salty. I had even subbed the sauce that comes with it for the bearnaisse sauce (I love a good bearnaisse) and that was also sooooo salty. I had to scrape it off. Our tongues felt burnt the next day. We didn't even it our left overs.:/ It was almost closing time so we didn't complain while there, I'm sure they would've replaced it, but the staff was already doing their closing procedures. We will still be back! But definitely watch the salt level on the steaks.

Wish Ophelia's would update their hours on Google and Voice Mail when closed! I love Ophelia's, drove all the way to Independence Square from Overland Park, KS on 5/12 to dine with a friend in from AR and they were closed over lunch and even for dinner after 4pm. We checked Google for hours, it says open 11-9pm, called the restaurant and selected option 3 for business hours, it also says open 11-9 on Monday. They don't even have their business hours listed at the entrance or windows or any sign indicating a special closing. Bummed we drove all that way for nothing.

M
Mike Dahlor

While the food was good, it was sub par to the pricing and the service level was somewhere below that of a truck stop buffet. It took 10 minutes to get water, another 15 (and a nudge to the wait staff) to get our cocktails. If an establishment wishes to set their pricing at a premium level, and they want return visits, Ophelia's needs to elevate their staff & dishes as well. Our lesson was learned.

C
Chelsea Williams

We went on a Thursday for lunch. Not very busy but only 1 server a manager on her phone and a bus girl. So took a while to get service. Then took a while to get food. The burger smelled like seafood and tasted how it smelled. The lobster ragoon, which is why we came here, was cold in the middle and we didnt recieve until after we got our meals and reminded them. One would taste good and the other would be over powering fishy lobster. Our bellies have not been right since. This was over priced. Understaffed. Complete waste of time. Will not be back.

E
Eve Adam

Horrible owners, the 'elevator' for the inn breaks down if any person is on it, not sure how they got licensed to be an inn. No breakfast offered with your stay, but refuse to update their marketing. Owners expect staff to ignore paying customers, to give them better service. Even though their grandkids don't know how to act in public, throwing food on the floor. One 'chef' is abusive to all staff, and the other would rather hide in the back than help her staff get food tickets out in a timely manner. Skip this one, none of the food is actually worth it. Overpriced & you can find better quality at places owned & operated by decent humans.

J
Jane Miller

Restaurant. Party of 25 women for a Saturday Buffet for $26 or $34.65 with tax and gratuity. Medium bowl of cut fruit, stale mini muffins-tiny muffins, egg quiche, small biscuits, gravy & bacon. I don't eat pork so I didn't have any meat. Bread, gravy & eggs for $34.65. Very disappointed. The waitress did not even come around to get drinks requests. Most women did not get their iced tea. We ran out of bacon and they would not give us more. It was very expensive for nothing.

K
Kristy Hooper

I still cannot find anywhere, where they published the Mother’s Day brunch menu. Do not advertise it as a brunch when there is not a single breakfast menu item available. Do not take reservations at 10:30 AM and off for coffee and mimosas, when there is absolutely nothing, you are serving that makes sense with those beverage items. the menu was very lacking and the steak was over cooked. They were not keeping up with changing out the items that were empty so no one was following a line. If they saw that the risotto had been refilled, people were just stepped right in because they had been waiting. Unlike their brunch we were used to, there was no selection of desserts. In fact, our server told us desserts were included as we asked for a check. The cheesecake we received was warm. Seriously… Warm. Our server was very nice and we didn’t ask for a manager to complain because who wants to be that person on Mother’s Day. But we will never ever go back.

J
Jacke Pittman

The reason for my 1 star review is because we love the restaurant and the staff. We just had mothers day brunch there and of course it was excellent. And I treated my wife, kids, mother in law my sister and her kids. All loved it. And my wife asked me what I wanted to eat for father's day, no question is Ophelia's. But they dont do brunch buffet for father's day. Thats weird. Just Thanksgiving, Christmas and mother's. Apparently us father's are not important enough to have a special brunch for us. Not important enough to feed us males. So that's why I gave a 1 star. Im really pissed about it. And wish they'd change that. Until then, I will be petty and tell everyone I know not to go there and they're food is no better than going to chili's.
