Yu’s Garden is a fantastic spot for authentic, casual Chinese dining. While seating is cozy and limited, the food tastes like a genuine home-cooked meal—the perfect alternative when you don’t feel like spending the night in the kitchen. Their famous Three-Cup Chicken is a must-try, and they offer a great variety of both hot and cold dishes. Highly recommended for anyone craving real flavor!
A long-standing reliable Chinese restaurant now at a new location just across the park lot from its old location in the same shopping center. Everyone is here for their 3-item (plus rice or sweet potato congee) combo to go. At $11.50, it’s the best deal around this area where prices tend to be higher due to rent. There are plenty of choices and the dishes are fresh because of the high demand. They also make them the Chinese way rather than with extra sauces like the more Americanize places. There’s an 80 cent charge if you pay with a credit card.
I love Yu Jie!! Hope your new location will get a lot more business so I can come here to get my dinner forever <3 Best chinese food in Irvine
Very decent price for its location. Many different selections of food. However, one time I came later in the afternoon and some of the items were out. Since I discovered this place a few weeks ago, I've been back a few more times. I always got the 3 items combo togo since it's $11.50 plus tax. The price valid for whole day if takeout and lunch if dine in. The combo comes with either rice or porridge. They charge $.80 for card so bring cash if you have one. Some of the staff don't speak English but wasn't much of a trouble when ordering.
I like that they have a variety of entree options here. It doesn’t matter if I am on vegetarian diet or not, they have something tasty for me. Sister Yu and her staff are super friendly. Highly recommend this place. 🩷
This is an OG Irvine gem! The first time I came here I was probably 6 years old. Nothing has changed, except that now they accept credit cards (with an 80 cent fee, lol). Where do I begin? There are so many delicious options. I love their tofu options, their eggplant, their cold sides. You also get to choose from a side of rice or porridge - ALWAYS GET THE PORRIDGE. It’s so homey, and even more perfect especially if you’re feeling under the weather. Need I also say that you won’t find a better deal for a three-item combo - only $12! If you live in Irvine and haven’t been yet, I highly encourage you to stop by and give them your business!
I love their dinner special two dishes for $10 and rice or rice porridge for $1.50/pp. We got 3 sets of two dishes and two porridges. Porridges are unlimited refills if you dine in but we didn't need a refill for two people. When we got there around 9 most of the hot dishes were out already so only cold dishes left. I love their sweet potato porridge which is thick hot and creamy with soft grains of rice and chunks of soft orange sweet potato. I could eat this plain happily but it also serves as an excellent base for the side dishes. My favorite side dish was the scallion chicken served cold. The pig ear was good too with spicy chili oil. They also had honeycomb tripe but we didn't get that. They were out of the bok choy so they let me combine it with the leftover dredges of spinach. Lions head meatball and bamboo shoots were not great, overly sweet with thick oily sauce. The cold smoked chicken also wasn't my favorite as the meat was mushy. Overall love the concept and ability to try many different things in their food bar. Just need to come earlier for more options.
EDIT: For comparison, look at the 4.7 stars on Fantuan, a Chinese delivery service much more trustworthy to review Chinese restaurants. 这是我最爱的饭馆。Dunno why it gets so much hate on google maps. The prices are great, the people help me practice Chinese. The staff know what gluten is. It’s great.
They moved across the parking lot! Great new clean location. Always Great food.
Chinese food , Good price , more selection, more menu, easy to order , simple to dine in & to go, cash better than credit card. No service charge ..
FOOD WAS SUPERB, SERVICE NOT SO PERFECT. Good delicious simple chinese taiwanese foods, we came in on a Sunday, this was the third time I came in to this resto this week. I need to beg several time talking in English to get decent unchip serving dishes, I told her my reason was that I want to take photos of my foods for my FB show off, when at somewhat crowded time its service was bad, and lack of hygine, a server served from the buffet and keep talking, imagine her saliva could splash into my dish she was holding onto. So I did not give tip today on purpose and a Taiwanese tall pretty lady did not hesitate to remind me for the tip, she can talk in perfect English when asking for her tip to me, but was speaking mandarin all the time during serving time, even though I told her that I did not understand mandarin too well. Foods was good, was just that one personel who was lacking of good manner.
Yu’s garden is located in the same ranch 99 plaza but on the right side. It is a small chinese porridge shop that has limited seating but very easy and fast takeout options for ppl who are on the go. They have a bunch of side dishes laid out at the counter and you either tell them you want two or three per bento box. Each box comes with a bowl of porridge or rice whichever you choose. The way to order is you go to the back and point or tell them which one you want and you can order multiple bento boxes of your choice. ($11.50 pretax for 3 side dishes) This place has been here a long time and is a known local shop that has served Irvine folks. Parking is ample but may get packed cuz of the plaza. 10/10 would recommend!

Soo many variants of chinese food here. Cery value and the portion very generous. Love the tofu skin, pig’s ear and beef shank with herbs

Friendly and speedy service. They are very attentive. Many original food choices that are inexpensive, tasty and fairly healthy. Porridge or rice. Despite the dirty and run down look, this is probably my favorite restaurant in Irvine.
i aint ate there in years but planning a trip back to irvine and our first stop will be here to pick up some mapa tofu! best asian restaurant ever!
Not a customary take-out Chinese cuisine, but just as wonderful. It is a small authentic restaurant located in a strip mall right off the 5 and 133 FWY. The most notable specialties besides the food are the smile and greeting from the servers.
Authentic Chinese/Taiwanese food. You spend $13 here and enjoy food that will cost you more than $30 anywhere else in this area.
Excellent variety of very authentic Chinese and Taiwanese food, at very affordable prices. I've been here numerous times and it has never failed to impress. Definitely worth checking out if you like this kind of food!
Good food and really reasonable prices. Authentic Taiwanese dishes. Love the many ready cooked selections, you pick two items for less than $7, portions are big! Rice or congee are extra. Friendly service.
I really think this restaurant is underrated in Google review. Their food is more like homemade and mostly less salty and oily. My family orders food here every time when visiting Irvine.
So delicious variety of Chinese breakfast treats! Love sautéed squids the most. Service is great fast and full of smiles.
Favorite hangover cure. Large selection of dishes and choice between rice and porridge. You can get the family style variety for a single person without it breaking the bank.
Beats Sam woo express any day. You can order express takeout three items for less than $8, or you can order from their large and cheap menu on the wall. From dumplings to fried rice to hot pots, I eat here every weekand love it.
This place is underrated: the food here is so authentic, clean and so many dishes to choose from! Love the food here so much, taste like mom’s dish. Very affordable, convenient and fast !
One of the best places to get good food at good deal. Yu has been around for the past 15 years and the owner is always friendly and kind to all the customers.
Great selection and quantity of food to choose from. Delicious. Staffing is minimal as it's a mom and pop run business but they work hard and get you served as quickly as possible.
Our go to place for good Chinese food! The 3 side plate is the best value! Almost always crowded during lunch or dinner time but the wait is usually short.
I’ve been coming here since college years. Food is great. The chicken and cucumbers are my favorites. It’s a bargain here because the portions are insane and the quality is up there.
This place will continue to be an old favorite! The taste has not changed after all these years and it's still so delicious :) They also still have the buy 1 get 1 free milk tea but I feel their boba is sometimes a little too hard. Great deal though. By this time, I've tried most of the dishes available on the counter and these are my favorites: - Bamboo (the stewed looking kind) - Spinach - Chicken (blanched) - Bean curd skin with edamame - Egg tomato scramble - Bok Choy - Stewed Pork with stewed egg They seem to give you more on togo orders because their in-house plates are so small. If you do get togo, the FIRST item you pick they will scoop the most so pick your favorite first! :) The porridge with yam is also the best accompaniment with the dishes and they will give unlimited porridge when you eat there. Get at least 2 buckets! ;) Ultimate comfort food!
Good food, good price, good people.
Yu's Garden had some very friendly people. I went there to order lunch for a friend who also wanted water melon juice. Unfortunately Yu's did not have any water melon juice.... in fact they did not have any juice at all. They did however have a large list of Ice tea. Which included drinks like homey lemon ice tea, raspberry ice tea and passion fruit ice tea. The woman asked me boba or no boba 🤷🏽♂️ I had no clue what that was so I said no boba. She then said that the tea was 2 for 1 soo I happy walked away with 2 passion fruit Ice tea (no boba) which surprisingly tasted like the best passion fruit juice I've ever had 😁
Great local Chinese. It's legit and not overstated. Prices are low and portions are huge. Meals are full of flavour. Open late night!
My parents love coming here. All the dishes reliably good and the owner is very friendly, she's always working! It has an authentic Taiwanese feel. I'm glad they have been around for so long.
One of the best Chinese restaurant in Irvine. The food is tasty and inexpensive. You can choose from various dishes to form a bento meal or order individual dishes like a regular restaurant. The place has great selections. However, if you expect an upscale restaurant experience, you should not go there. I went there for the authentic home cooking and for their prices.
The taste of hot and sour soup was amazing. The food was good, simply presented and the taste was awesome. I recommend this place if you want to try these kinds of foods. I will come to this place again. Good price. They are really nice and kind.
Authentic Chinese food at a very reasonable price. Fun style of ordering by picking out the dishes laid out in front of you. Delicious milk tea with buy one get one free. Recommend congee with mapo tofu!
Authentic traditional Taiwanese food! The food taste like the food in dining hall of high school/college, serving by hospitable aunt.
best chinese comfort food, my family always comes here anytime we're too lazy to cook a meal or just don't have time. the portions are large and the price is very very good. the flavors are very authentic and possibly even better than the flavors back in china. the service is very fast and getting take out is super easy and fast and equally as delicious as a sit-in restaurant. skip your panda express and come here fr ALSO there's always a buy 1 get one free for boba so bring your friends ;)
Great local spot for traditional Taiwanese and Chinese favorites. Easier if you order in mandarin. Prices are fair for 3 dishes. Choice of steamed rice or congee.
Okay. I think on Yelp, they don’t have a great review when I last checked. But, they have great food and once you get to know them, the staff takes care of you well. We can overcome the language barrier:-) Love this place.
The best value in All of Irvine. I've been a loyal customer for 10 years and will continue going
Excellent variety of food choices and dishes. Very reasonable price
Food are great for the price, I would come here for quick dinner
Charming, authentic restaurant with a selection of dishes in the counter (get them with porridge as a base, or with rice) as well as a large menu of orderable menu items. Everything we tried from the counter was delicious, with my favorite being the bamboo. The woman who served us was very kind and friendly. Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food you get.
Place to have Taiwanese taste dishes. The bento for three dishes with porridge or rice is a great deal. Many selection for dishes and you can build your own meal. The taste of the dishes are authentic Taiwanese style. Slightly blend of sweetness make them tasty and worth to try. Cash only for under$20 dollars.
When we moved from NorCal we were bummed there were no good 稀飯 places nearby. Then this place and it became an instant favorite. The staff gives the best service, the food is great, AND it doesn’t cost an arm and a leg like most things in Irvine!!!
Absolutely love Yu’s Garden! I don’t live nearby, but I’ve visited many times — it’s that good. The food is always delicious, full of flavor, and the prices are incredibly reasonable. Every time I come in, the staff are warm, genuine, and truly welcoming. once I come by for pickup, they show so much affection toward my dogs Great food can bring people in once, but it’s kindness and sincerity like this that keep people coming back. Highly recommend!
The best place in area to get traditional Chinese food! It's always fresh and not soggy. Menu has huge variety of dishes. But most important that prices are affordable and reasonable! I go here almost twice a month, will not stop as long as I'm living in that neighborhood.
One of the best deals for Chinese food in Irvine. Food was great and staff is friendly and provides great service! The soymilk is always buy one get one free towards the end of the day and I would definitely recommend it. Make sure to bring cash as there is a 80c fee if you pay my card.

Went here for dinner and decided to do takeout. Ordered the dinner special which mentioned $9.99 for two items with rice, but for to-go they offered three dishes — nice surprise! Got the basil chicken, eggplant, and tofu, plus an order of chicken noodles. Service was quick and the staff were friendly. There are a few tables if you prefer to dine in. Located in a plaza with plenty of free parking and other food spots around. Great option for a casual, tasty meal. 80 cents extra for credit card usage.
This is only for Takeout Lunch Review! Yu's Garden is one of my favorite Taiwanese restaurants for takeout during lunchtime. Their combo boxes, priced around $13, offer three delicious items that my family loves. Our top picks are the beef tripe (牛肚), beef shank (牛腱), and pig ears (豬耳朵). Sometimes, the three-cup chicken (三杯雞) is not as tender as I'd like, but it's worth a try. Other great options include scallion oil chicken (蔥花雞), eggplant (茄子), and braised bamboo shoots (油燜筍). Paying with a credit card adds just 80 cents to the total. The only downside is the poorly planned ordering line, where customers move back and forth before paying at the front, causing some congestion. The payment counter can be moved to the back, like Panda Express ordering line, because the staff can easily get items from the kitchen. Despite this, the food quality and value make it a great choice for lunch.
Great place to have lunch. Good enough for the price in Irvine. Service are great. Definitely going back again. They have a great selection of dishes and provide free porridge. 😋... but be aware for limited seating.

More of Taiwanese kind of fast food. There's great portion of porridge and various of dishes to choose from. Decent price and friendly service. Aside from plates, there are also options for bento, noodles, and beverages.
Update: tried calling in tonight on a Saturday at 8:55pm and was told they were cleaning and I couldn't order food that wasnt already display. That was super disappointing as I've now been a repeat customer. Hopefully just a 1 time thing because I work late and liked that they're open later than other Asian restaurants in the area. Also the beef dish isn't always made with bamboo, more often its with bok choy. Just went here for a couple things and ordered over the phone. The staff is really nice, especially the woman that answered tonight. I got the hot and sour soup and the boiled beef in spicy sauce. Very reasonably priced for so much. The beef dish was so so good!!! I'm absolutely coming back here. The flavors of that beef dish were a great spice and a little numbing Sichuan flavor to it with perfectly cooked bamboo (not crunchy). That's gonna be my fave.
Fast friendly service, good food, budget friendly. Place is a little dirty (e.g. icky tables), but pretty normal for mom&pop shops. You get choice of rice or porridge (with sweet potato) with your order. Their cold tofu skin dish with bits of carrots and celery is the best!
To be fair, I went really late so their premade food were almost gone, especially for the ones we wanted to order. So they made everything fresh from the kitchen and they all tasted good. I never had any the premade they have there, and I wouldn’t to begin with.
2022 Back to dine in and all. For the past several visits, everything's generally the same, but the sliced beef is too chewy and sinewy. One star off for that. Still, the other items tasty as they were in the past. 2019 Delicious, traditional Chinese food with a huge variety of dishes. This is the place to go when Panda makes you sick, and you want to return to healthy, nutritious foods. Seaweed, tofu, bitter mellon, and rice porridge tells you you're in the right spot for authentic! Fast for take-out or eat in, generous portions.
Sometimes I don't feel like restaurant style (heavier tasting) Chinese cooking, don't feel like cooking, and would drop by yu's. Food are fairly healthy (home cooked style), lots of selections, and generous portions. Not to mention, priced very reasonably when compared to other places. Good for dining in or take out. Remeber to drop by during or before peak lunch / dinner hours; often times the really good / popular stuff can be sold out by later hours. Too many to mention, but off top of head, their eggplant, tomato egg, squid, meatball, vegetarian cold cuts, and etc., are all very good.
There’s is a variety of side selection of food at this location all visible to see. They have dine in where you just take a seat and someone will assist you and there is a take out section where it’s cafeteria style take out (all cold dishes) when ordering your main dish. We got lamb soup with three sides, garlic & spicy pork cold dish, bamboo curd and celery, and bok choy. The lamb soup is southern Chinese style. I loved the curd and celery dish!
The dinner was a unique experience. The servers behind the counter helped us navigate and explain the many different types of foods. We selected the "any 2 items for $9.99, dine in dinner." They charge $0.80 for using a charge card. The eggplant was good. The other items were ok. The service was pleasant. There was a line, but it moved very quickly.

I've been getting their 3-dish lunch special for years. Even though the lunchbox size has shrunk but it's still a great value. However my most recent experience caused me to question their food refrigeration practice. I bought 3 cold dishes and 2 were spoiled. So be aware of those cold dishes. Better to choose freshly cooked hot dishes. The place is always crowded and people waiting in line to get lunch takeout during lunch hours.
After they moved to the new location, the amount of food in each portion got super tiny. When we asked why the lady who was scooping out the food was angry.
Food tastes good. I didn't know the price was higher than I expected. Portion size gotten small.
I've been here a few times before, and the price was very reasonable, about a dozen dollars (three dishes to choose from), but this time I had dinner, four dishes including a porridge, and the cashier charged me $23. I gave a tip, and it was twice as expensive as before. I'm not sure if I was overcharged. The price is more expensive than before , Compare Prices, There are many places better than this
Looks cheap bc the amount is less, indeed not cheap. Food is actually tasty. I wasn't be offered the receipt but only the total amount, more expensive than the calculate price I did according to the menu. Tips are required and cash only.
My wife and I bought 3 orders of meals at/about 11:15 am Friday 2/21/25. The quantities of the three-items of each order were so few comparing with those we bought a few months or years ago. We decided not to visit this place from now on.
Selection was abundant. But it's expensive for 2 persons to dine-in when ordering 3 small plates of food (2 selections on each plate) and charge $35.60. In the end it's $20./person (with tip), and the amount of food is not that much. Carry-out order appears a better deal (3 selections per order costs less than $15).
Today the server attitude is really bad. I went there a lot. Today its the worst. She is very mean attitude which is completely opposite as others I encoutered before. She is short and wear all black. I am surprised they hired her to be there.
Never come again. Very bad service: asked fore spoon for porriage waited for 10mins ending with a wet spoon....but the caisher is thicker-skin enough to ask for more tips although I already gave 12%. Such a bad experience.
Food is mediocre at best, their hygiene standard for their restroom.... man, I wondered how they even stay in business and pass health inspection, there are small flies everywhere, strange odor, I can only imagine what their kitchen is like? I'm glad I didn't get food poisoning
This restaurant refuses to serve food to me when they found out I was placing an order for postmates. This is very poor judgement on their behalf. If I lived in this area and community I would recommend no longer eating at this establishment.
Well, this is the second time (maybe more) I saw orange county restaurant shut down report has its name, that means two shut down in a year, cockroche infection. That‘s pretty bad, it seems the inspector has spotted this restaurant but they don‘t change at all, of course, shut down one day and open next day won‘t hurt their business but if they don‘t change the way they clean, personally I will not go to this restaurant.
Been here multiple times before. Food tastes great. But got food poisoning the last time I was here. A couple months later, they get shut down due to rat infestation.
Very bad customer experience……I heard the manager shout at the cook just because one takeaway meal is more than the standard size. I will never ever go to such an unfriendly restaurant, with an artificial smile ahead of customer.
Greedy for more tip with bad service! Old lady waitress will 180 degree change her fake smile and curse you if you didn't give her 20% tips. Will never come back!
The food is fair. But when checking out the server demanded tips which i dont think they deserve any. And the server just straight up taking my card for tips. At the end this old lady just straight up give me an weird smile and said dont ever come here again without leaving a tip.
Their hygiene standard is really poor. I smelled strange odor in the food and in the restaurant. And got food poisoned recently. It’s not worth to get sick no matter how cheap it is.
ordered 5 dishes all taste funny and no flavors. And one of those dishes they cooked something else instead, not the one what I ordered. Health safety and health quality is big question mark. Been this place some times every time You can smells something already went bad in hallway. Wast money on bad food not only taste bad but also has potential health hazards issues.
Forced to add more tips after the meal today. It was a very humiliating experience: I was asked to come back when I was about to leave, and forced to revise my tipping decision. Can't feel they give any respect to their customers. The food quality is just average, so with this level of customer experience, I decided to never come back again. If you don't want to be forced to increase tips, avoid this place.
I first visited this restaurant 12 years ago when moved to Orange County, the service was terrible and took the cash with no intention to return the changes. After asking for the changes, they reacted like they deserved it as tipping for granted and teased the customers for no gratitude. This is absurdly rude and humiliating and I refused to leave any tip then left. Today I checked it out again to see if the management is improved or not, apparently they are as rude and ruder than before. Only the painting on the wall from Chongching, China is still as pretty as before.
I really hope the owner of this place reads these comments so they understand the degree of unprofessionalism of the greedy waitress they hire. I typically tip pretty generously for dinners. Even for the few times I came to this place for lunch takeouts I usually put the changes in their tip jar. Today, however, I left a less than usual tip after dinner because I wasn't thrilled about the particular experience I had today. And the reason I wasn't thrilled about the experience was because I felt they hadn't been upfront with me about the prices of the food items they would charge me. Anyways, after seeing my less than usual tip, the waitress insisted I should tip more in front of other customers. Of course, I added more. The waitress won over a tiny amount of tip, but the restaurant lost a customer.
The kitchen was dirty they were using there hands no gloves the bowl and plates was dirty
Had a bad encounter about how much I should’ve tipped, no one seated me and when it was my turn while standing in line to order, the old lady almost served someone else who came after me first just because they claimed they did.. also had to go up to the counter to pay, that being said i think it’s reasonable to not tip that much considering how little service was provided. After I paid for my bill at the counter with cash and was given the change, the old lady saw I stepped left(to leave room for the next in line to check out) to put those one dollar bills in my wallet, then she asked for mandatory tips, which was something I was about to do since I intended to give them all the coins I had, in front of another customer.. After reading the reviews apparently they’ve been like this for nearly a decade now. Not sure why they’d think asking for $1 or 2 more on tips would be a better practice than just letting it go and having a repeat customer who will bring them more than $2 in profits in the future. Also food was always cold when served dine-in
We had two dishes with rice porridge at this restaurant tonight. After finishing most of the porridge, I found three dead ants near the bottom of the porridge container. So I showed them the ants and voiced my concerns with the cashier and chef, but both said they could not tell what they (ants) were! So I took pictures as proof. After I gave them the container back, I assumed they would have had a chance to examine the ants in the porridge. But guess what, they continued to sell the porridge. I was so angry that I told the family who was served porridge about the ants and showed them my pictures. The restaurant did not offer one word of apology to any customers and charged us full prices.
I rarely leave reviews, but this experience was bad enough that I feel the need to warn others. The food was genuinely disappointing, poorly prepared, lacking flavor, and not at all what was advertised or expected for the price. Every dish at our table had issues, and it honestly felt like no care went into the cooking or presentation. What made the experience even worse was the staff. The service was rude and dismissive from the moment we arrived. Simple questions were met with attitude, and when concerns about the food were brought up, they were brushed off instead of addressed. No effort was made to make things right or even acknowledge the problem, which is unacceptable in any restaurant. Dining out is supposed to be enjoyable, but this place managed to miss the mark on both food and service. There are plenty of restaurants that value their customers and take pride in what they serve — unfortunately, this is not one of them. I won’t be returning, and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone looking for a pleasant dining experience.
The food here was just okay, but the service was really bad. I brought my kindergarten-aged kid with me, and he was just sitting next to me reading — he didn’t eat anything at all. But when I went to pay, they still made me pay for a main dish for him. They told me that just sitting there counts as having a meal. I honestly don’t get it. I’m definitely not coming back.
