Always very polite service. The food is great. Good Mexican food is hard to find in Upstate Ny in my opinion. Inside is ok the decorations are beautiful but inside is slightly dated but the food and service more than make up for it.
Fajitas we're amazing and so was the raspberry frozen margarita! Cool decor and theming.
Authentic Mexican food with great quality and service. Generous portions at reasonable prices. We liked and recommend to visit if you in that area.
My mom has never been to an authentic Mexican restaurant so I took her here while we were in the area and she was blown away with how delicious everything was. She got the steak burrito and I had the arroz con pollo. Servings so big we had to take some home but not because the lack of flavor- we will definitely have to stop back in next time we are in the area
Located almost on the edge Ithaca, this fairly good size Mexican restaurant what one would expect plus a little more. I am a frequent visitor on Tuesdays when there are one dollar hard or soft tacos (Taco Tuesdays!. Also they serve beer in adult sized glasses (version pictured) great staff and awesome food. Even when busy, the food comes out in quick order.
Food was absolutely amazing. My server was extremely personable and friendly. Atmosphere was cozy and on brand for the restaurant. I will DEFINITELY be coming back here next time I am in town!
A single order of chicken fajitas was more than 2 of us could eat. And it was very tasty
After having read some bad reviews, we can say this place isn’t bad! We walked in and were greeted and sat down right away. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. The salsa and chips were great. I had the Street tacos which came with beans and rice. Everything was so good. My husband enjoyed his shrimp tacos as well. Overall, the food was great! I say this as this is our family's favorite type of food. We are very picky about what qualities as good Mexican food. Lastly, the menu has food options but it's not overwhelming.
Highly recommend! Went there last night with family-From the moment you walk in you are welcomed- the wait staff is professional and friendly! The food was fresh, appealing and so delicious! Had shrimp tacos -family had enchiladas and chicken quesadillas. Everyone happy! Appetizer was French fries with cheese and taco beef. Yum! on the idea of poutine. Could have eaten only that all night! Prices were very reasonable! Had to take half of food home because so much! Atmosphere was beautiful music! Great staff, food! Glad we went and will return! Thank you Old Mexico!
Staff was polite, we suspect our server is new to the industry. Very sweet young lady. Note we're used to west coast Mexican restaurants which have different regional influences. We were also there at a later hour closer to closing time than main dining hours. Picture remembered part way into our meal. Our food was served very quickly. The menu has several options for vegetarians and vegans in addition to the usual line up for omnivores. Guacamole was delicious. Chips nice crunch. The courtesy salsa was okay but nothing outstanding. Hubby enjoyed his street tacos, although he did have to hunt down his limes on the plate. Other than the black beans being less seasoned and having more liquid than I'm used to the vegan fajitas were very delicious. Made even more so by adding a hint of salsa Verde and guacamole. The ensalade served on the side was refreshing.
Excellent food. Good Margarita. We were there on a Monday night and it was bustling and busy. If you're looking for quiet and cozy, it might not be your vibe. Overall, a great choice for a great Mexican meal.
Went to Old Mexico Restaurant by chance and glad we did. The meal was delicious and the service was excellent. Will definitely go back.
Awesome food. Awesome service. Best Mexican restaurant in Itahca hand down
Huge portions of good tasting Mexican food for reasonable prices. Have been several times and never a wait for a table even on a busy weekend.
We had a great dining experience. The food was excellent and very large servings.
Fiance and I are big foodies. She's dealing with some food restrictions because of health concerns, and they were able to accommodate a lot of her restrictions. Perfectly grilled veggies and well flavored chicken. I got the sliced beef chimichanga which tasted sooo nice! Food seemed authentic. Great place to eat in Ithaca!
The food was delicious - so fresh and tasty! The chicken tortilla soup hits the spot on a cold and rainy Ithaca night. The food and drink portions were quite generous. I can't wait to come back here the next time I'm in Ithaca.
We are traveling to Itacha and we're so impressed with this restaurant. The place is beautiful, the cocktails are great, the service was super professional and fast and on top of all, the food was so good. The portions were big, and the food was super authentic and yummy. We will definitely be back whenever we are in the area. Don't skip this place when you are around.
Great food, tasty and a good customer service. The Carne Assada was amazing, we also tried the shrimp ceviche and it was fresh and delicious. The complimentary nachos were hot and crunchy. Overall, everything was amazing and was a lucky strike to have chosen Old Mexico to dinner while passing through Ithaca. Friendly staff and fast service, even with the restaurant packed. So another positive thing on them. Definitely worth the visit if you are looking for a good Mexican restaurant
Delicious horchata, service was super fast, chips n salsa come with sitting in, the salsa is kinda plain but not bad. I got the vegan bowl which was super good and affordable. I love that it comes with guac & pico. My friend got the veggie fajitas which came with black beans for the beans so I’m guessing they use lard in their refried beans. Overall the food came out super fast, for lunch time it’s a great spot!
Fantastic food and drinks. The street tacos and the dragon berry mojito was great! Will definitely be back. Reasonably priced!
You get an authentic vibe ad soon as you walk in the door. Weather it be the art, the service, or the food, it's all worth it. They say you get what you pay, and sure do here. I strongly recommend their chimychanga's. I will be returning.
Long lines, but got seated within 10 minutes. Once we were seated, very fast service with exceptional food. My wife and I split the burrito Diablo. Very good with just the right amount of heat.
Good Mexican food in a lovely atmosphere. Our waitress was so attentive. We went back the next evening for taco Tuesday, the tacos were pretty bad I am sorry to say, the did not even season the meat. It was quite different than the food the night before. Maybe it was just a bad night but I expected more.
Consistent quality food and the quantity is more than filling. The parking is ample, the serving staff is not only efficient but very receptive to guests. 3 times we have eaten there every time the pitcher of frozen mango margaritas has been perfectly blended, more importantly, consistently top notch with a distinguishing amount of tequila and not some water downed mango watered down purée other places provide. The food is expertly prepared and expeditiously delivered to your table piping hot. Bravo to the proprietor. It’s rare that a customers experience spread out over 12 months and 3 visits where each time the food has the exact same quality and the frozen mango margaritas are NEVER watered down like other restaurants. Oh and I also forgot to mention that their complementary in house salsa and corn chips are so tasty. Their combo gordo dish is so big it comes out in two full size platter type plates. I get that every time!
We moved here from Texas and couple years ago. We haven't found many restaurants we love and hadn't found any Mexican food we loved, until Old Mexico. My husband got his favorite dish, the carne asada, and had the chilaquiles. Both of our dishes were so, so good! The only thing we both found a little underwhelming was the salsa. We prefer something spicier, but if you like a very mild salsa, it's good. Our server was great, too. He was there when we needed anything, but not overbearing. We'll definitely be back soon!
Great food! Vegan and vegetarian options were clearly marked which was helpful for me. Our server was on top of things, friendly, and you can tell he works hard. He made our dining experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Prices weren't outrageous especially for the huge portions of food you get. I'm not from this area but when I'm back here again I'll definitely be eating here!!
I’ve had lots of Mexican food. It’s one of my favorites. This might have been one of the best meals I’ve had at a restaurant and I love my local restaurant. I was blown away by how good everything was. I had the chimichangas Vallarta and my husband had the Chori Pollo. Both are dishes we can’t get at our local restaurant (in Schenectady NY). Thanks for a great meal!
Here's a small review of your Mexican restaurant experience: Delicious Mexican Feast! Our recent meal at the Old Mexico restaurant was absolutely fantastic! The table was overflowing with vibrant and flavorful dishes – from cheesy enchiladas and sizzling fajitas to fresh tacos and a refreshing margarita. Everything tasted authentic and delicious. Highly recommend!
Busy for dinner, but well managed with zero wait on a Saturday night when Texas Roadhouse had a 40 minute wait. Got right in here, and was given a great table. Had the Azteca Dip for an appetizer which is difficult to eat, but absolutely delicious. We followed up with the Carne Asada, and the Al Pastor Street Tacos for entrees. All of it was cooked perfectly, fresh, and flavorful. A beautiful dining experience. Minor deduction for a busser accidentally hitting one of us with the dish cart, and for forgetting to provide silverware. Overall though, can't recommend enough, and can't wait to go back!
The food was really, really good! I will definitely recommend their appetizer queseduilla. It was so tasty that we finished as soon as it arrived. Nachos locos was also really delicious. We also ordered street tacos, fajitas drinks... Everything was really good! You guys must try this place once! Yeah flan was also tasty!
Visiting Ithaca and stopped here for dinner. We were seated without any wait on a Saturday night at 9pm. Our group got chicken fajitas, enchiladas, and flautas. All excellent and very fresh. We liked the salsa and the queso as well. Chips were also fresh. Enjoyed the meal and the service was also excellent.
This place is amazing! We were coming back from Syracuse & found it on Google. 4.4 stars is not accurate! They should have 6 stars! The service was fast & friendly. The food was incredible- I had the best chicken quesadilla I’ve ever had in my life! My daughter & husband got burritos and we all had to take food home because they were huge! Fresh ingredients, great salsa, delicious! We will be back!
Third time going to Old Mexico. Only problem is they are too far away from me. But I'll still drive 200 miles to get the best Mexican food I've ever had. For a Canadian, the price and portion is incredible. I can get a whole authentic Mexican meal in the most fitting atmosphere for less than MacDonald's quarter pounder meal north of the border. Y'all Americans lucky.

Great food. Huge portions. Excellent service. Give these people your business. They earn it.
I am a new comer to Ithaca and was craving Mexican Cuisine. Old Mexico was the perfect place to go, their tacos were spectacular and drinks were fabulous.
A nice selection of traditional dishes. I could have appreciated more beans and hotter sauce, but overall satisfied. Easy to get to, plenty of parking, attractive ambience, reasonable pricing,

Fair prices and large portions. Food is good, but is on the mild side and could use a bit of spice. I had the pozole and it was solid. Pork was cooked great. My friends enjoyed that it wasn't spicy, so judge for yourself!
Great atmosphere with lovely details and decor throughout..... I got the taco salad...with shredded chicken.....👍👍 Also ordered: - Mariscos (the top choice on menu) she gave it 👍👍 - fajita chicken quesadilla👍 (he wished he would have ordered the Mariscos) -kids meal chicken finger with French fries, No thumbs up, because why would be hungry for food.....oh, that's right, it wasn't cake! -duh mom! Very tasty overall (wish they carried my favorite hot sauce though, Cholula...hint.hint) ....very clean bathrooms and friendly staff.
2nd time there and the steak faitas are excellent. Pepers onions and steak in large quantities, well cooked and nicely seasoned. Prices are fair
The service is great! The homemade chips and salsa are awesome that they bring to the table when you sit down. I got the fish tacos and they were only okay. They lacked flavor otherwise I'd have given them five stars on the food. Sorry
I decided to have a solo lunch while waiting for my car. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the food was. Great atmosphere. My server was very attentive! Prices are reasonable. Lots of menu options, for all. The music is a little loud. My only reason for a 4-star rating is that I went for lunch, before 3pm, but when I got my bill, it was double the price. My server apologized for giving me a dinner portion. She offered to reduce the price but since it was dinner size, I paid the full tab. I would recommend it.
It was nice & old style restaurant. Food was amazing. We were a big group of 14 with babies but got really cozy corner so Noone else can be disturbed. Service was quick.
This restaurant is ok Service was good Food was good Just wish they would provide menus that aren’t taped together and fall apart while you are trying to make your selections
We hoped for a mexican restaurant and we got it! The kids meals are ... $2 more than usual and the adult meals are $2 less than usual. The presentation of the food is amazing. I'd mention however that the cheese quesadillas and cheese enchiladas all came to us packed with cold cheese inside. Besides that surprise it wasn't bad
My friend and I came to Old Mexico Restaurant & Cantina. It is a nice little taco place to eat and chill. It was Taco Tuesday and the specials was dollar tacos which were only beef and chicken. The decor was well decorated. I had ordered a Mango Margarita and Tequila Shrimp Taco platter. My friend ordered three beef tacos. It was simple as can be. It was in a flour tortilla with lettuce, sharp cheddar cheese And beef. It looked like a Taco Bell soft taco. I wasn’t expecting to see that. The mango margarita was really good perfectly made. Just the right amount of tequila. The Tequila Shrimp Tacos were really tasty and flavorful. The only problem it wasn’t served with limes on the side. I had to go to the bar and ask the waiter for some. I would have given a 5 star but there needs some work on the plating presentation.
Carnitas were very good and there was way more than I could eat. Wasn't impressed with the refried beans or the rice. Draft beer was very cold. I asked the server if the flan was made there and he told me yes so I got one to go, only to find out that it definitely wasn't made there. I'm pretty sure it came from Sysco or US foods.
We came here for dinner last night. We shared an appetizer and entree. I was charged for an alcoholic daiquri that did not have alcohol in it. The place was clean and nicely decorated. We were sat very soon after coming in. The staff was professional and friendly. Our food was hot and tasted good. Our only complaint was being charged wrong for the drink.
For our family roadtrip, we were staying at the Fairfield Inn & Suites next door so Old Mexico was an easy dinner pick, not only because of its proximity but we love authentic Mexican food. They do have their own free parking lot if you're driving over. This place itself looks decently clean with a nice vibe inside thanks to the decor. The employees don't speak the most fluent English but enough to get by with your dining experience. Once we sat down, we were offered menus and drinks (we just got water all around) as well as chips and salsa! I have personally never been to a spot where they offer you complimentary chips and salsa the way an American restaurant gives you bread and butter, so this was a really happy surprise for us. I loved that the tortilla chips were very light and crispy, without any added grease and not too strong on the corn notes. We ordered three different things to share since we were told the portions were large (and I would agree), inclusive of their dinner combos #1 (with rice) and #9, as well as their quesadillas appetizer. The quesadillas were definitely the star of the night, with their very well seasoned chicken which also had a nice char to them! They were also stuffed with ingredients. It came with a side of pico de gallo but we were sad to hear that they had run out of sour cream! That was definitely a first. The enchiladas were unfortunately not the best I've had - they could have had more stuffing and the flavor wasn't as to my liking as ones I've had previously. I definitely recommend their chicken over their beef items if you're ever debating between the two. Their tacos were nice and big, with a very crispy shell and not too strong or a corn flavor. This place takes both cash and card, but they do not have portable credit card machines so they do need to take your card over to swipe, then give you a receipt for tips and a signature - it's been a while since I've had to do that but it isn't too much trouble. On your way out, they also have mints for your enjoyment. We were greeted on our way out.
The maitre D had all the patience in the world. She never wavered when dealing with perhaps one of the most rudest customers who was ordering out walked in ahead of us. We were seated promptly and Cindy our server was a joy. Our dinners were exceptional. From the appetizers ( mini chimis) to the main courses( enchiladas rancheros + carna asada quesadilla.) Hope to be back tomorrow night for $1.50 taco Tuesday!
We came here for lunch while exploring Ithaca. The food was good but the wait staff must have been short today as there only appeared to be one person on duty. The atmosphere was pleasant and clean but it did take longer than expected to be provided with our check. We have historically been very happy so I am leaning toward saying that this was an outlier event.
This Mexican restaurant is really nice, and the staff is friendly. Our server provided good service, and the food arrived quickly and tasted delicious. The only slight disappointment was with the loaded nachos. Even though we requested them without meat, they didn't have the melted cheese that I usually love. Despite that, they still tasted good, and adding some melted cheese would have made them even better. The ambiance of the restaurant gave off a great Mexican vibe, and the restroom was clean. There's plenty of free parking available for cars, but they don't offer free Wi-Fi. As a nice touch, they have mint candies outside that you can take when leaving the restaurant. Overall, expect to spend around $25-30 per person for a lunch or dinner.

Fajitas had no sizzle coming out of the kitchen. Tortillas are like rubber. Chimichunga was over cooked. Waiter disappeared.
We were first taken to a dirty table. The hostess asked if we would like a different seat!! Well duh!!🤦 It definitely left me wondering about their covid protocols. Or the lack thereof. We ordered the shrimp, steak and chicken fajitas. We got 1 shrimp and one slice of onion!! I don't like overly spicy food but this was super bland. Not one thing of the night out screamed go back there. I think Panera would have been better. We got a margarita and that was pretty good.
First time at Old Mexico, food was alright but my tortillas for my fajitas were a little hard and I wish my bloody Mary would've had a better presentation with olives and a rimmed glass and our server didn't seem to be on his game tonight
Finding decent Mexican food in NYS is tough, but I'll give credit where it's due. Even though the parking lot was fairly full, we got a table really quickly. The salsa and chips were...okay. I'll acknowledge we are spicy people that went to a mild restaurant. I ordered a margarita and it was decent and hit the spot. The entrees were alright. I kind of wish you could choose between beef and steak instead of steak being very thin strips of lower quality, lean beef. But the veggies on the side were fresh and after the margarita, we were definitely satisfied. The servings were generous and we both had leftovers for another meal. All of the staff we encountered were super nice and the service was very prompt. We'd come back, but probably just for drinks and a snack.
Decent place.. typically Mexican restraints are always bankable.. this one too. The horchata was good.. perfect proportion of cinnamon and sugar. Pina colada was rushed.. not very impressed.. don’t miss out the appetizer chicken quesadillas.. they were the best.. tamale was bland.. could have been much better. Veggie fajita was ok.. overall not a nab place..lali does an amazing job in managing the tables..
To start with good thing; our waitress was very kind person. Chips were fresh and warm. The portions were also decent size. However, the service was far too slow. We waited at the door for about 10 minutes just to be seated. After that waited for another 10 min. for the drinks. The other tables around us were left dirty. No one from the restaurant came to clean up them during our dinner and it was really disturbing. We even carried our own empty plates to those table since no busboy/girl was coming to help us. In terms of food, guacamole was slightly better than the food. We ordered 2 shrimp tacos which was half way burned. My steak fajitas were not good either. The meat was hard and lean. It was not easy to chew. Price vs quality is definitely not matching. At the end we waited another 10 minutes to ask for the check. Overall, the restaurant needs more staff and increase the food quality. As consensus, we decided to give 3 star because we think the current rating is too generous. If you had real Mexican food, you would understand the difference.
We had a nice lunch here. Good place for lunch in a hurry. The service was great, quick and the food was good. We were served a large bowl of house made tortilla and very good salsa on the house.
I had some very average shrimp tacos, my wife had a salad that had brown lettuce and was watery. Poor service, took 10-15 minutes to get the margaritas. We were visiting the area but if I lived here I’d never go back to this restaurant.
I hesitate to leave this review because this is one of the best places in Ithaca or that's what I thought, but honestly I have been experiencing a bad service lately only from one particular person. I never had an issue before... the person who is supposed to greet you doesn't seem very happy to be there. This individual is not welcoming at all, my take out has been incomplete multiple times, I get mistakes happen here and there, but it has become a frequent thing. If people don't want to show up to work and actually do their job, she should find something she likes, otherwise people won't be please to be treated like that.
Ordered the haddock and street tacos with guacamole over here. Mediocre Mexican food at best. Nothing stood out and the guac was actually a bit salty. I asked for corn tortillas but ended up being …
We waited 30mins before they brought out our drink (this was after reminding our waiter about it who definitely forgot) then we wanted another hour before our below average food was finally brought out.
Well I tried and tried to talk to them I WAS BEYOND DISAPPOINTED!! They had BUGS!! SOme kind of flying ant looking things !!! And had a couple land on my food! I did not want to cause a scene so I took food to go then trashed it! When I called I got run around and was told I would get a call back I called 4xs no call back!! DONT SUT BY WINDOW!!! Picture of bugs
I used to think this was one of the best Mexican restaurants in town but tonight all of that changed. I had the crazy coyote meal it was supposed to be covered with sautéed onions, peppers and mushrooms but every vegetable I picked up wasn’t done! I ate everything else but the veggies were impossible to enjoy. I pointed this out to the server once she finally checked back in on us and what I got was a useless apology and $1.50 off my meal. The veggies were dang near half the meal not the 10% I received. I can no longer recommended this place and probably won’t ever be back .
This restaurant has messed up my to go order 3 different times. They do not value those with allergen issues nor dietary restrictions. The price vs the portion size is also ridiculous. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone unless you want to make extra stops to get the missing items you paid for. How do you forget tortillas with a fajitas order?
I ordered a carne asada take out. Per the server who took my order, it should come with avocado and cilantro. For the torpedo bag, i confirmed two times with him if there is hot sauce in the bag. He said yes. But there was nothing. There was no utensil in the bag. I struggled to find a small fork in the hotel. But guess what, I still had to eat the steak as a savage. It was a long busy day for me. Really hoped to have a good and relaxing dinner. But none of my experience with the restaurant helped. Very very disappointed. To be fair, the steak was tasty and tender. I am sure i would love it if mine came in right. I tend to believe this is an isolated case but it ruined my dinner.
