Thumkaa is a fantastic Indian restaurant and a great spot if you’re looking for delicious food with a relaxed BYOB vibe (though they do offer wine as well). Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, and the service really stood out. Our server, Tony, was friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable about the menu. He gave great recommendations and made sure to ask about our preferred spice levels when ordering, even repeating them back to ensure everything was correct, which I really appreciated. We started with the chicken samosas and chicken lollipops, both of which were flavorful and perfectly prepared. For my entrée, I had the butter chicken with garlic naan, and it was outstanding… rich, comforting, and full of flavor. I also came here in November for a Friendsgiving with a larger party, and they were able to accommodate all of us without any issues. The experience was just as great, which really speaks to their service and organization. Overall, Thumkaa delivers excellent food, great service, and a welcoming atmosphere. I’ll definitely be coming back! SN: the interior is great for photos as well! :)

What a wonderful dining experience. From the moment we walked in we felt like a party of the family. The food.. superb. The drinks..outstanding. Our server, Rishika, was super attentive and explained every dish with enthusiasm and joy. Definitely a must go to spot. Hats off to Sunil and Ruby on opening such a terrific restaurant.

I stopped into this restaurant for dinner. When I arrived I parked on the street nearby. I walked into a really nice restaurant. I was greeted and sat and served by Tony. I had: Red Sangria Azure Lagoon Lassi Lamb Chops Chicken Samosa Veg Manchurian Gravy Garlic Naan Gulab Jamun The food was so good and my favorite was the lamb! This spot was great all in all!

We had a wonderful time at Thumkaa with friends. The food was absolutely delicious—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Every dish we tried exceeded our expectations. The staff were truly amazing & friendly. Great atmosphere, great service, and great food. We’ll definitely be coming back and highly recommend it!

Thumkaa Bar & Kitchen – 10/10! Absolutely loved it! I would highly recommend this place to everyone. The Indian fusion menu was incredible, from chicken pizza with Indian spices to Hakka noodles and traditional sabjis. The sangria was fantastic, and their non-alcoholic mojito was just as refreshing! The food and service were both excellent. We visited for my grandpa’s birthday celebration, and the service was impressively fast. To top it off, they had live performances of classic Hindi songs, which added such a wonderful vibe. The aesthetics of the restaurant were also on point — beautiful, inviting, and perfect for a night out. Overall, an amazing experience. Can’t wait to come back!

Mr. Tony made our dining experience absolutely wonderful. His hospitality stood out from the moment we walked in — friendly, attentive, and genuinely caring. The Indian food was outstanding, and Mr. Tony took the time to walk us through the venue options and pricing for hosting an event here. He explained everything clearly and professionally. Highly recommend both the restaurant and exceptional service.

Awesome ambience , the drinks were superbly presented , starters were so innovative . Dessert was good too . Main course was okay . Naan could be softer and more butter could be addded for butter naan , it felt more of tandoori roti than naan. Servers were talented . Overall very good experience.

The food was excellent and the vibes were amazing, with live music adding to the atmosphere. The staff took great care of us and made the experience even better. While there aren’t many alcohol options apart from wine and champagne, it’s a BYOB place, which works out perfectly. They also go the extra mile with music and special gestures for birthdays, which was a lovely touch. The place does get busy, so I’d recommend booking in advance. It’s a bit of a drive for us, and we were initially skeptical, but it turned out to be totally worth it. Overall, a wonderful experience—definitely recommend!

Had a wonderful dinner at Thumkaa and will certainly plan to return. Food was excellent, service was great and the restaurant has a great modern decor. Great for big and small groups (make reservations!). This review is for a vegetarian dinner and a little more critical given the high end branding and high end prices. Thumkaa largely lived up to it with some minor quibbles. First the hits. Booth tables felt a bit tight but seating was comfortable and was fine for our meal. We were 3 adults, a fourth might have felt tighter. Drinks menu had some great mocktail options, they sell wine but no other liquor. You can bring beer or wine, believe there is a corkage fee but not sure as I bought a bottle of their wine which was a decent enough Cabernet and reasonably priced. (Local winery only so not many options) Broad appetizer selection, we tried Paneer Tikka Tacos which were very good. Paneer was cubed in small pieces, well seasoned and topped with pickle onions and jalapeño. The sauce was on the bottom so was easier to eat although couldn’t tell the type. Looked like a creamy chipotle type sauce but not sure. The Tandoori Soya Chaap was really good, moist, well flavored and grilled. Wish it had a few more grilled veggies with it but would definitely recommend it. After the apps, the mains took some time. It was a Saturday night and I enjoy a leisurely meal so not an issue but it was noticeable. When they arrived, they were all well presented. The Chili Momos were the table favorite , another strong recommendation. The oddly named “Cottage Cheese Malai Kofta” was another hit. It came in a unique yin-yang bowl with two different gravies. Both were wonderful and rich in flavors. The overall ambiance was nice. Darker but still able to see. A sense of a crowd but not so loud you couldn’t have a conversation. Modern decor tastefully done. The mirror hall to the bathrooms seems to speak to the Instagram crowd too. We also tried one of the mocktails and it looked and tasted great. Can’t wait for a gin version! They got all of our requests right. (Especially No cilantro) which always makes me happy! The Just Ok Items The Vegetable Biryani was fine. Could be just personal taste but just didn’t feel there was anything special about it. The raita accompanying it was pretty watery and tasteless. (Why do restaurants insist on such a tiny raita for such a big bowl of biryani??) taste certainly didn’t stand out as the other dishes. The Plain Naan, this is down to personal taste. The naan was great but it was of the very soft and thin variety. I like my naan to have a little more bite and a bit more of that char of the tandoor. Again, it was fine but maybe I’ll try the other breads next time. The Chocolate Lava Cake didn’t flow. Cake itself was ok, a bit dry but if the lava doesn’t flow, is always a disappointment. Even Dominos has figured this out so for a high end place, I do have high expectations on this. The cake and ice cream were fine but it is called Lava cake! Minor quibbles: The server seemed unfamiliar with the wines other than to say one was sweet and the other dry. While well intentioned the server was insistent on explaining themes to me. (Not the dishes but just wha was where on the menu which was odd) Server hovering over me when I had the card machine while selecting a tip amount felt a bit much for a high end place. The policies read a bit heavy handed, I agree with them but maybe doesn’t need to be so in your face. Verdict: I rounded up to 5 stars, good food, nice place, well intentioned service but not quite at the next level yet. No daily special, bar still to be fully in place and prices at the higher end raising expectations. All that said, we’ll be back and look forward to this growing into the higher end it aspires to.

Excellent lunch menu. Loved the butter chicken and their naan is top notch. My family and I enjoyed so much. Terrence provided excellent service and dining experience. Very nice ambience as well, a gem in Jamesburg/Monroe area.

We went for a birthday celebration with a mix of vegetarian and non-vegetarian family members. The spread of dishes was fantastic, but the Lamb Chops and Lollipops were definitely the stars! The atmosphere was beautiful, and the service was truly amazing!

We dined at Thumkaa Bar & Restaurant this evening and were thoroughly impressed. The food was delicious, the service attentive (Tony) and the overall experience was outstanding. Congratulations to owners Raj and Ruby for delivering such a high-quality dining experience.

Walking into the restaurant, we knew it was going to be an awesome experience. The decor, the staff, the tables, and of course, the food, were all worth it. The staff is always on the roll and ensures you get everything you want/need. Our cashier was Mr. Satish and he was super quick and for lack of a better term, he’s really chill too. We look forward to revisit Thumkaa!

We had an absolutely wonderful dinner at Thumkka in Jamesburg! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere felt warm and welcoming — and that set the tone for the entire meal. Our waiter, Tony, was exceptional. Attentive, friendly, and genuinely invested in making sure we enjoyed our experience, he guided us through the menu and checked in often without ever feeling intrusive. Truly top-notch service. We started with the samosas, which were perfectly crisp on the outside and filled with savory, well-spiced potatoes and peas. The accompanying chutneys added the perfect balance of sweetness and heat. We also ordered naan, fresh from the tandoor — soft, warm, and absolutely delicious. The star of the evening, though, was the vegetable biryani. Aromatic, beautifully layered with spices, and full of fresh vegetables, it was exquisite. Every bite tasted like comfort and craftsmanship. During our meal, we were greeted by Raj and Ruby, the restaurant’s wonderful owners. As always, they were warm, gracious, and genuinely appreciative. Their hospitality adds something truly special to the dining experience and makes every visit feel personal. If you’re looking for exceptional Indian cuisine served with heart and hospitality, Thumkka is a must-visit. We left full, happy, and excited to return. Highly recommended!

From the moment you arrive, Thumkaa Bar and Kitchen sets the tone for something special. The red carpet outside makes you feel like you’re stepping into luxury, and the lively, upscale décor inside only adds to the experience. The menu is a dream for both vegetarians and meat lovers, with an impressive variety of dishes. I loved the refreshing mocktails that paired beautifully with the food, but the real stars of the night were the Pani Puri, lamb chops, chicken biryani, BUTTER CHICKEN, assorted naan, a tandoori vegetable dish, and the RAS MALAI TRES LECHES (I’d honestly risk diabetes to eat this every single day—it’s that good). The live entertainment was such a wonderful touch, adding to the vibrant atmosphere and making the evening feel even more special. Thumkaa has truly mastered the art of combining sophistication with deep, authentic flavors, top-notch service, and an ambiance that makes it the place for any and all occasions. I can’t wait to go back and try the rest of their menu. What an absolute gem to have in Jamesburg!

The inside of this restaurant is beautiful. They have a variety of options on their menu, including an Indo Chinese section which I thought was very interesting. I was intrigued, so I ordered the chicken Hakka noodles and it was delicious! We also ordered the butter chicken and it was packed with flavors and paired perfectly with their garlic naan! Our server Tony was so nice and attentive. He also had some really good recs, including our appetizers: lamb chops and the crispy kebabs (highly recommend both). The whole staff was so nice! Will be back again.

Stumbled upon this place for the first time for lunch and I was so impressed by the design and professionalism of this restaurant. Everything was delicious and our Waiter Tony was a delight. Just a note this place does not serve hard alcohol, only beers and wines.

Visited Thumkaa and was impressed by the vibrant atmosphere and attentive service by Satish. Being vegetarian, tried malai kofta , stood out with its soft cottage cheese dumplings in a red and green creamy, flavorful gravy—a perfect blend of richness and spice. The kadai paneer featured tender paneer sautéed with bell peppers and onions in a robust, aromatic masala, delivering authentic North Indian flavors. The papdi chaat was a delightful starter, offering a crunchy, tangy mix with yogurt, tamarind chutney, and sev—refreshing and well-balanced. For dessert, the rasmalai was light and satisfying, with soft, spongy. Overall, Thumkaa delivers a memorable Indian dining experience with standout dishes and great ambiance

I had a wonderful dining experience here. Both the food and service were great throughout our meal. I particularly want to compliment the owner on the tasteful interior design and the elegant flatware, which added a lovely touch to the atmosphere. The entire staff was very attentive and polite. A special thank you to our server, Tony, who was helpful and ensured we had a great evening. I generally do not give my recommendation publicly, but I won't hesitate to recommend this place!

Just too good. Not sure where to start. Service, Food and Atmosphere everything was exceptional. They checked all the boxes elegantly. Paneer Chilly Gravy could have been better. But still better then most of the places. Will definitely recommend and come back. Thank you Thumka Team for this wonderful evening.

We had a wonderful experience this evening. Tony our waiter recommended some delicious Indian pickled dishes that were very different from the usual Indian food that we have had at local Indian restaurants. We learned these were traditional Indian dishes and they all were absolutely delicious! The atmosphere is wonderful and the owner, chef and staff are extremely friendly and helpful. They were eager to explain every dish to us when we were not familiar with them. We felt at home. We will return again soon. Highly recommend this restaurant!

This restaurant is a beautiful place. The place had stunning decor which made the whole experience feel extra special. The food was amazing — full of flavor and perfectly cooked. You can tell a lot of care goes into the food, and every dish we tried was so good. The service was great too. Tony, Clato, and Francis were exceptional. The boss stopped by our table to say hello and to make sure everything was okay which made the experience even better. Everyone was friendly, attentive, and made us comfortable. Overall, we had a really great experience and would absolutely come back. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for great Indian food in a beautiful setting with great food.

I love everything about this place - from the atmosphere to the food, especially the curries Malai koftas, butter chicken, Hakka noodles and dal tadka was amazing very authentic and the best naan ever. Oh the drinks were amazing my daughter drank two valentines drink with the cotton candy. I forgot the name what it was. The staff especially Rushika our server was amazing she was so busy but with other customers but still very attentive highly recommend this place will definitely visit Thumkaa.

Nice and trendy place to go in nj (nj don't have many nice Indian ambiance restaurants as such). Our server "Tony" was awesome! He suggested very custom menu for our likes. Lamb chops were awesome 👌 Chicken Achari tikka was good too. Malai kofta presentation was very good but the taste was mediocre. Quantity of the food was generous (unlike some places where they give 2 piece). I also like the fact they wrote at the endn of the manu it self that all the meat is halal.

Nice place to go out with friend's group or couples. We enjoyed our meals. Staff was friendly and flexible in catering to our individual needs. I guess I can make some suggestions but overall it was a nice experience. I am not able to post pics since the food pics include people with that. But only my dessert pics is without a face so posting that.

We had an amazing fine dine experience at Thumka We celebrated a friends birthday there and the hospitality won my heart ! Amazing experience! The food was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented — especially the paneer and tandoor dishes. The staff was friendly and attentive, and the modern atmosphere made it a perfect spot for dinner or celebrations. Music and vibe were lively, adding to the overall fun experience. Definitely one of the best Indian restaurants in Central Jersey —

Newly opened restaurant .. good ambience with live Bollywood music which was very nice for a Sunday evening. It's a BYOW/BYOB place , the name says Bar but they just have some red and white wine. Appetizers shrimp koliwada , bihari boti and lamb chops were all salty. Even after remaking it , it was salty. Owner was nice to come up and acknowledge and didn't charge us for the shrimp koliwada. Once they have the liquor license, will try it once more. Reservation recommended and parking is on street.

Overhyped—food was average and didn’t quite meet expectations. The ambience was good but a bit too loud for comfort. Overall, an okay experience.

Solid choice for upscale Indian dining. We had a solid experience at Thumka. The appetizers and main dishes were very good, and the staff was accommodating throughout our meal. The dessert was decent but did not stand out as much as the rest of the food. The atmosphere was nice overall, though the music was way too loud and became disruptive while eating. Despite that, the quality of the food and service made it enjoyable, and it is a place we would recommend to others.

S

The place has a great vibe — 10/10 for the atmosphere. It’s a really nice and lively spot. The food was good, but I feel it could be even better. The only issue was the service. We felt a bit rushed. Our dinner plates came before we finished our appetizer, and we were given the dessert menu before we were done with our main course. It made the dinner feel a little hurried. Other than that, it’s a good place with great vibes

excellent service & great ambiance. Tony took special care of us, we told him that we were celebrating our day. he put on very nice music, brought a candle with the dessert, and put on a nice show. he was also kind to take our pictures! he explained the various settings and encouraged us to experience the live music and buffet on our next visit!

“Thumka” had a great ambiance and vibe, making it a perfect spot for a fine dining experience. The moment you step inside, you’re enveloped in a warm and inviting atmosphere. We started our meal with a refreshing Mango Lassi, which was quite sweet. The Amritsari Fish Fry was crispy and delicious, while the lamp chops were nicely marinated but could have been juicier. The pani puri was a bit disappointing, and the butter chicken was too sweet. On the positive side, the achari chicken curry, garlic naan, and paratha were all good. The dessert was a treat, with lava cake, ice cream, and gulab jamun. Overall, I would say that the food needs a bit of improvement in terms of taste. The service was great, and our server Sandy was very attentive. I would also love to see a more fancy bar area with a wider selection of cocktails, especially Indian cocktails.

M
Mohit Mehrotra

Went here on 1/28/2026@7pm. Place was deserted. We ordered chicken kadhai and jalfrezi, both had exactly the same gravy, which was also bit sweet. Food was just at best below average and packed any taste. Another thing they call themselves a bar but have no liquor license. Mocktails menu didn't look any real choice. By the time we finished they had a love musician come in to perform. Overall we walked away feeling bad about our trip. We saw the reviews from other people but the reality was very different. If you love in the area , perhaps a casual dineout might be okay but the place isnt in the league of fine dining. Don't have any high hopes and the place may feel okay compared to your average neighborhood indian eat out.

Oh so close to being a new go to for Indian food yet read on to see why it's not . . . Let me start by pointing out the positives - we ordered take out via their website and it worked perfectly. Food was ready ahead of the promised time, I was greeted super courteously and felt very welcome, the ambiance was very upscale and lastly the food was absolutely delicious. You may be asking why not rate them 5 stars? Well it is a matter of principle. We ordered somosas, chicken 65, tandoori shrimp koliwada appetizer and buttered chicken, and buttered naan - all in around $90. The portion size ridiculously small. The shrimp appetizer was 6 medium sized shrimp for $30 - so $5 a shrimp !!! The buttered chicken was supposed to be a dinner portion, yet came in a container the same size as the appetizers and maybe a cups worth of basmati rice if that. Bad move - thy are in Jamesburg - not Princeton - not Redbank - not NYC. Thankfully there are many other options in the area - not here to advertise them but they are easy to find. Worth a try? Yes maybe - the food will not disappoint - but you will feel taken advantage of when you see how little you are getting for your money.

I had high expectations for Thumkaa given all the buzz, but sadly, it didn’t live up to it. The ambiance was nice, but that’s where the positives end. The service was slow and inattentive — we had to flag someone down multiple times just to get water refilled. The food looked great but was lacking in flavor and came out bad. For the prices they charge, I expected much better quality and consistency. It felt more style over substance. Just to add a few more. The server had a bad body odour. The music was suddenly increased and lowered multiple times. Probably not returning anytime soon.

I was looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, the experience was quite disappointing. There were several significant issues during our meal: • Order Accuracy: We ordered the Tawa Chicken, but were served Tawa Paneer instead. • Food Quality: Regardless of the mix-up, the food quality was poor. The flavors and preparation did not meet expectations, and we found the meal quite underwhelming. • Atmosphere: The live music was far too loud. It was difficult to have a conversation, which made the dining environment more stressful than enjoyable. I hope the team can take this as constructive feedback to improve their service and kitchen standards, but based on this visit, I wouldn't recommend it.

This place has potential to be a great restaurant from the look/feel of it however they missed on everything thing else: 1. Over crowded seating, they should not place circular 2 seater tables in between 2 long large party tables, especially since in the back area there is not enough room. The waiters and guests can barely get past without disrupting your meal/time 2. The appetizers we ordered were so salty because they compensated with over seasoning instead of authentic flavor (I did also get a piece of rock in my paneer tacos however I did not complain) to add the papdi chaat tasted if the chutneys used were store bought jarred chutneys (tasted very sour) 3. We thought the entrees were good but later that evening I had bad stomach aches (seemed to have been prepared in big batches since the food came out very quick) 4. Lastly there was live music which was a nice touch however when you are seated between 2 large parties and that is added into the mix, I couldn’t even hear my husband

S
Srikanth Paluri

Very disappointed with the food. Appetizers are ok. Main course is below average. Unable to finish the food we ordered. I then had two spoons of just white rice and that was the tastiest. We tried to eat the food … forget about finishing the food, unable to eat even a small portion of what we ordered. Posted pics of unfinished food. Sri

New place, Recently Opened. I liked the way waiters and waitress asking for writing review after finishing the food 🍱. Even-if they wouldn’t ask I had to write this. If you are Indian you will definitely like the ambience, obviously music too as all the Indian Playlists. However I tried all the best foods (as per them) they had and my true opinion is everything was way far from the goodness. For people visited and no one liked the food, it was a waste visiting there. I did enjoy the music only. Food was literally yuk sorry to say that but this is an honest feedback. Also we ordered very mild spice in one of the dish but they put so much spice that our kids got sick.
