Stopped here for brunch at 10 AM on Saturday morning. It took one hour for the staff to prepare our food and the wait was totally worth it. We had great time dining at this restaurant. Fun Guy Tartine dish and hot latte were delicious.
I love purple owl the staff is amazing justice is so sweet and the owner I don't remember her name is super sweet and kind. The drinks are amazing they do really good breakfast and the pastries very good. Plus your in the mountains of Julian double win. Prices are very good your middle ground for coffee prices but better quality coffee. Indoor or out door seating available. The purple owl sign I believe was done by a local artist and it's amazing. Overall 10 out of 10
The tartine (pictured) was the best breakfast I’ve had since I can remember. It’s so good. My son had the grilled cheese, which uses the same bread as the tartine (their homemade focaccia) and he said “this is the best bread I’ve had in my life!” So the food is, without question, 5 stars. A couple of things about the service / atmosphere: 1. The service was very slow. I think this is due to two things, both of which are worth it IMO. First, they’re making everything fresh. Second, things move a little slower in Julian than in, say, San Diego. I like that. 2. They have a “service dog only” policy but it wasn’t enforced. A family brought in a dog and it whined loudly for a while. 3. This will sound weird / trivial, but I noticed it multiple times: the doors to the place, when allowed to close on their own, smash closed and make a very loud noise. Loud enough that I was jolted by it the first three or four times. It was the opposite of the calm vibe inside. Would be a relatively simple fix. 3. Lastly, they have a little kids area with toys and books and games. Loved that - very helpful while waiting for the amazing food.
We arrived early (around 8:30) and that was just on time! Because after us there was a line lol! The food was done pretty quickly and we loved it! Ingredients were fresh and tasty. The only thing my husband didn’t like was the black coffee but besides that, come here!
I love it here~! The food is amazing, excellent portions. The banana French toast is my favorite and the oat milk butterfly pea latte is delicious~! Even my boyfriend, who doesn’t drink coffee, likes it. The atmosphere is cute and cozy, there’s outdoor seating too. I want to come back here again. They should add more owls to the decor though.
A visit to this coffee shop left a pleasant impression. The atmosphere is quite cozy - dim lights and calm music create a sense of peace and comfort. The staff is friendly and attentive, and helped me make a quick choice. I ordered a matcha latte, and it was a good choice - the drink had a delicate taste. Overall, the place makes me want to come back. I recommend it to everyone who appreciates quality and pleasant service! The only downside is that we couldn't taste the food because the kitchen was already closed
Had an amazing decadent breakfast! This restaurant is delightfully homey, the staff super friendly and helpful and the food absolutely delicious! Had their spicy biscuits and gravy and I’ll never have biscuits and gravy the same way again! If you staying in town or just passing through Julian, I highly recommend stopping by the Purple Owl Cafe
Cute little breakfast cafe. Friendly service. Hot, fresh food. We got the Cream Cheese Dill-lite and Never Been Feta tartines (open faced sandwiches on foccacia). Both were hot, well-seasoned and served with a side of potatoes.
Tasty food, I love the vegan options and the variety. It's a hidden gem! Pretty interior and very friendly staff. Very nice atmosphere. And most of all everything was delicious. Good vegan cheese used on our tartine focaccias Fun Guy and spinach&feta and delicious vegan banana cake. We also got two hot drinks, ube tea and white mocha made with coconut milk. You can choose your milk from regular, oat, coconut. The menu is awesome because they can make almost everything both ways, regular or vegan. There is many of vegetarian dishes and many dishes with meat too. We really loved it .
Delicious food! The banana bread french toast was genius! The focaccia bread was super crunchy to the point that it was a bit too hard, that would be my only recommendation. Great place (: would absolutely recommend.
Just stopped in for a latte but my husband couldn't resist the sound of the mushroom crepe and man, was it good. We split it, it was huge and packed with flavorful mushrooms, onion (but not too many because I'm not a cooked onion lover) and yummy cheese. The crepe itself was fantastic too. It was a struggle not to try other things. I don't think you can go wrong here. Great service too!
Awesome small town coffee shop feel, food can take a bit to arrive but it’s worth it based on what we had and saw on other tables. We had a Vietnamese coffee (very good), lemonade (noticeably fresh and definitely not from a powder mix), berry melody crepes (add Nutella) and the Nina Fresca crepes (strawberry and crème). All food items were fantastic, looking forward to coming back to try a salad like dish we saw on another table. The restroom (men’s) was clean, a bit odd to have a 2nd massive sink in there but it’s OK, just thought it was a funny thing. Located off the Main Street, next to sheriffs office. We will be back to try more.
We very much enjoyed our brunch here. We got one savory plate and one sweet crape plate and they were super delicious. Super cute inside decor. Very cozy and nice place to stop by
This place is delicious and cute! We loved the focaccia and the purple owl decor. Great for vegetarians and vegans.

Absolutely delicious, had the Berry crepes the berries were so fresh, the crepes outstanding, also had the Florentine crepes the sauce was so good! One of the best breakfast I've ever had and I've been around a long time. The gal that served us was also great. Will be back !
The best coffee in town! The crepes are incredible. I love love love their tartines (the burrata is so yummy) The salads are always so fresh and tasty. The staff is always friendly and helpful

Nothing like a good Coleman crêpe with apples, caramel, cinnamon sugar, candied nuts, with a julian apple pie latte.
It's a cute vegetarian cafe next to the Julian Sheriff's Department. It's about a block away from Main Street. Spacious restaurant with indoor seating and some outdoor seating without heat lamps. Restrooms around the left side of the building. We really enjoyed the savory crepes! The focaccia sandwich with the impossible sausage was plain and nothing special. The Green Smoothie was really good. Not too sweet.
Came here after watching so many videos about this place … their coffee game is way off . I don’t know if they have a machine or not but it’s not very good ;/ we did order a crepe . It takes a while to get your food but the crepe was good ! We enjoyed it . It’s a cute spot overall with lots of seats inside and out. Come for the food not the coffee ☕️

Good coffee option esp when the main street is heaving. Don't expect a meal tho, no matter what it says here on Google. Kitchen is closed all the time even though they seem to be cooking crepes in there (see video). Coffee is decent but the milk tea options are good
While ordering for me and my family. I was not given one plate I had ordered for my son. He asked for Mac and cheese. While picking up our food, I asked the server if the Mac and Cheese was coming up next? And she looked at me puzzled but ten said yes. After 15 minutes and after we almost finished our food. I again went up to the counter and asked the same girl, is the Mac and cheese ready? She went back to the kitchen looked around and then came back out to tell me that they had not made the mac and cheese. So I asked her, why did you say yes when I picked the food and I asked you if the mac and cheese was coming right out? She said I am sorry but we did not make it. I then asked her what can be made quick? Because we were almost done eating and my son had not eaten anything. She said I don’t know? I again asked her what can be cooked quickly? She recommended crepes, which he did not want. I then asked her if they could cook, scrambled eggs and sausage or bacon or something quick. She said they they ran out of sausage and did not serve bacon because they were vegetarians. So I asked for potatoes. I understand that they were busy but if they weren’t going to make something that is in the menu why add it? Or if they had not made the mac and cheese? Why tell me yes when I asked if it was coming out next. I thought it was going to be a nice experience for me and my family but it was not. My kids wanted to go somewhere else but I insisted we go there, since it is local and wanted to give it a try. Something new.
40 minute wait for a piece of cheese cake and a latte. And they weren't even busy!!!! The cheese cake was good. Good, not great. Definitely not worth a 40 minute wait. I'd give a zero if I could. I decided to give them one star because we did use the filthy restroom after waiting so long. The customer's were all shaking their heads and rolling their eyes as we listened to the two girls chat and laugh in the kitchen/coffee area. Shamefull.
