Been going to Baci Bistro forever but first time reviewing this excellent neighborhood restaurant. Always great service, friendly and casual with terrific food and wine selections. Montepulciano is a favorite! Nice outdoor lanai with fun vibe and traditional and cozy interior. Make reservations as restaurant is intimate although there is bar seating. Parking easy in back .
Love this place! Excellent food, atmosphere and service (and I’m from the northeast!) Easily the best gnocchi I’ve had - they were like pillows! I had an inkling that the pasta was freshly made based on the great taste / texture but I had to ask to confirm. The only recommendation I could make would be to state this on the menu - such a strong selling point to have fresh pasta made in house!
Love this place; its one of our go-to places for dates. I've never had a dish here that didn't taste great! My favorite is the vitello al limone, but they have different specials on different nights and those are always really good too. Our go-to dessert is creme brulee, and I love that they toast it right before they deliver it and the whole restaurant smells like marshmallow. Will always enjoy coming here :)
My daughter says this is the best Italian food she’s had on island. I fully agree! I’ll definitely be going again next time I’m in town!
All over excellent! Started with the Mussels & great bottle of wine.. Then we each tried the veal ( three ways ).. each bite of food was an explosion of ecstasy!! Wonderful service & atmosphere 🥰 The carpaccio was excellent too!!
Loved our dinner here. Cocktail recommendation: The Bee’s Knees, fantastic. Great food, great server and a really nice ambiance. Definitely recommend this place
Came here on a recommendation from Uahi Grill’s bartender who raved about their truffle gnocchi. You need to make a reservation. Food was delicious, bus boy was always fillings water and taking empty plates, waiter didn’t keep us waiting long and was friendly, atmosphere was cozy and decor was nice. Owner Chris came to the table and she was very friendly. Also impressed me that she was helping throughout the restaurant. Love owners who can be a team player ❤️ They serve complimentary bread with oil and vinegar which was simple but good. You can see what we had but the texture of noodles on the linguini nere was so tender and scallops were cooked perfectly! And flavor of that dish was so Ono! Flavor and texture of shrimp dish was also perfect, noodles were Al dente but you could tell there was a difference in texture between the pasta dishes. Maybe the squid ink changes the texture. The potato leek soup was on point! My only disappointment was the cherry panacotta. It is my favorite dish so I was looking forward to the texture of it being more jiggly. It was more of the texture of crème brûlée but it was creamy and flavor was yummy. The fresh berries on top was a nice touch! We will definitely be back! Improvements? 1. some fresh ground pepper offered with oil and vinegar. 2. Say something about the texture of panna cotta so we know what to expect. I Probly would’ve ordered anyway because I love black cherries.
We had an incredible evening sitting at the bar for dinner. Our severs and TJ at the bar were so entertaining and the food was absolutely delicious. We had two vegan meals - spicy spaghetti and a vegetable risotto and Lilli sorbet for dessert and our non-vegan friends absolutely loved their meal as well especially their famous cheesecake. Great spot for a date or an intimate dinner with friends.
Fantastic! Been here only twice and the food is perfecto 👌🏽 The ambiance has been hit and miss. Tonight (Sunday) was not too busy so the indoor noise level was perfect. Last time we were here there was a larger bachelorette party that was sat halfway through our meal and it got Loud! But you come back for the food. This is a perfect spot to treat yourself or dine for a special occasion. There's even a small seating selection outside. The service here has been excellent and we are looking forward to returning.
Went here for my birthday dinner. Gnocchi was great, bruschetta was amazing, chocolate decadence for dessert was delicious. Our waiter was super nice. Great atmosphere. Also I really like their soda glasses and wish they would sell them so I could have one at home.
We loved discovering restaurants in Kailua on our trip to Oahu, and this place was our favorite! Fantastic Italian food and an impressive wait staff made for a perfect dinner. We didn't have a reservation, but they were able to make room for us at the bar. I would definitely recommend reservations on the weekend. Also note that all of the parking around the town center uses coin operated meters, so have some quarters handy. Worth the drive in from Waikiki for the change of pace and amazing food.
Excellent seafood and Italian dishes. Definitely a place you want to make a reservation for. There is indoor seating which can get kind of loud depending on who is in for the night, but there is also a number of tables out front under an awning, which is perfect for evenings in Kaneohe.
Very good service and pretty good food too they got 🍝🥖🦐🦪 perfect for an Italian stop and if your in a slight hurry we finished the whole thing in 45 minutes
We came back for my husbands 22nd birthday! Our experience was great! Our server was A+ as well. We didn’t catch his name but he was a taller/lankier gentleman with dark hair. If you get him then just know you’re in great hands! I had the special of the night- spinach and ricotta ravioli and it was really good! My husband loved the lobster ravioli. The bruschetta is a must! Our baby also woke up right as our food arrived ( he’s a ball of energy) so we weren’t able to fully enjoy our meal since we were passing him back and forth- but we never felt that we were a nuisance for having a 7 month old with us. The outside lanai is very stroller friendly- which we love and appreciate- we have gone to many restaurants on island where we’re looked down upon for having a stroller with us- this is not the case at Baci the staff there want you to have the best experience regardless of the fact that you have to take your children with you. I do wish they had high chairs so we could have seated him while we ate. The food was quick and delicious. We got drinks this time and they refilled my husband’s soda multiple times without us asking. We have reservations at the end of the month when my parents come and we’re excited to take them to baci bistro!
What a charming vibe. Tasty Italian restaurant with great service. Delicious sauce and wine selections. Great date nite place or just a nice venue for any occasion. We chose to share selections from throughout the menu and every bite was wonderful. Make sure to leave room for the marscapone cheesecake! It's blissful!
Incredible service and ambiance! Felt like I was in Italy from the decor to the authentic Italian food. The gnocchi salisiccia was great and filling with enough left over to take home and the cheesecake was phenomenal, light but sweet with refreshing berries on top. But I sat at the bar and was able to see everyone’s meals come out; I’m definitely making my way back, everything looked amazing! Thrilled to have stumbled across this gem, ended up tipping well over 20%! Most stop when in Kailua or visiting Lanikai, be sure to plan ahead and make a reservation!
Best Italian restaurant in town! Loved their bruschetta, spaghetti with lemon shrimp, and spaghetti al puttanesca. Last time I came here with a group of 5, everything we ordered were sublime. This place is better than most of the Italian restaurant I’ve been in Los Angeles. Must stop by here whenever possible! Easy street parking available in the neighborhood :)
Enjoyed a delicious and cozy early Valentines lunch with my partner today. Service was excellent from walking in to leaving. Food was absolutely delicious and filling, even for the endless pit of a stomach I have. Best of all, they have gluten free options. My girlfriend had a Dark Chocolate hazelnut gelato and an espresso and was even pleased with the espresso. Very happy with our visit and look forward to returning! 🤙🏽😊 Mahalo
Wow. What an experience! Hard to put into words my appreciation & respect for this place. It’s been years since I’ve dined at a place with such an amazing atmosphere. The food was incredible & so was the staff. I have so much respect for this restaurant and I’m so thankful for them! Thank you so much for the delicious food, we will be coming back!😍 thank you for being a place for EVERYONE!❤️
We ordered takeout and it was very delicious. We ordered an array of entries and all were very good. Too lazy right now to list the entries, but it appears you can't go wrong with whatever you order. I definitely recommend this place.
Our favorite restaurant in Kailua. It’s often busy so call ahead. We aren’t big planners so we sit at the bar, Isaiah makes the best drinks and Tj is within view making the most delicious desserts. When we do get a table Gabriel and the rest of the waitstaff are great. Kamalei is always around with a smile and a fresh ice water.
Good atmosphere, friendly wait staff & management, and delicious deserts! Make sure to make a reservation (even on a random weekday) because this place is cozy and popular! I always choose to sit outside as it can get a little loud, inside. Great for birthday's, anniversary, or just satisfying a craving for authentic Italian cuisine.
Good Italian food, tasty cocktails. My husband can have all the pasta he craves while I (gluten free) really enjoy the risotto.
The atmosphere was warm, inviting, and comfortable – the kind of place where you instantly feel welcome. The staff were all incredibly friendly and attentive, but we have to give a special shoutout to Matt. He went above and beyond for us in ways that truly made our experience memorable. The food was also fantastic! Highly recommend!
Reservation worked out. Server Chanelle was awesome. Lobster Mac special of the day was great. Was our first time and will be back. Atmosphere was eclectic and cozy. Plenty of wine to choose from, a lot of seafood items, with fresh tomato. Ceaser salad is perfect and the garlic shrimp was amazing.
Went here for date night with my husband. The atmosphere is warm and cozy. The staff is super friendly and welcoming. The food was spectacular! We ordered all the specials for the evening, the burrata salad, potato vegetable soup, cioppino, and ahi. Every bite was delicious! This will definitely be a staple on our list of places to dine
Great spot for a special occasion. Everything was excellent. Chicken Marsala, gnocchi and the shrimp appetizer was a wonderful start. Finished with the cheesecake, puff pastries and gelato!!
Pro: osso bucco was good, it was the special of the day. As soon as I heard that, I was like yup I'm getting that. The bone marrow added a buttery layer to the dish. It's in the price range of a treat to too expensive for me. I paid $42.95 I came in at 5:00pm so the service was fast I think there was one other maybe two tables. I feel like it's busier later during the day but it's a holiday. Cons: Their olive oil and balsamic container was messy. I wiped so my oil off my fingers Everytime. One spout is the vinegar, the other is the olive oil. I would like to have at least warm bread. Fresh hot bread would be better. The bread was a bit on the drier side too. Employees were friendly and nice.
We were not planning to stop here for dinner during our returning trip from north shore. Pleasantly surprised by the authentic Italian dishes. I got the risotto and it was delicious. The portions was just right, but my friend’s spaghetti with clams was a big portion that came with a lot more clams than she had expected. It’s a pretty busy restaurant so I do recommend making reservations!
Just a quarter mile from where we were staying, we found this place on Yelp and selected them due to being open past 8 pm. It was hopping when we arrived without a reservation but we were seated immediately inside and also had outdoor and bar seating available, if we had wanted. Service was very slow and not very well trained on the menu (one dish was described as being served with hot peppers and when I asked for it without, our server said she'd ask that the red pepper flakes not be added to the top -- is that what hot peppers means?) Our caprese salad was fantastic, the tomatoes were a beautiful, deep red and the mozz was tasty. We shared a large plate of spaghetti putanesca and still didn't finish it. It was a very generous portion and I wish we had been able to take it with us but we didn't ask for a to go box because we are traveling. As we were closing our check, our housemates called and wanted us to bring back some dishes but the kitchen was already closed, before 10, I believe. All in all, this was a very satisfying experience and would probably be a delightful al fresco dining experience when it's not raining.

We had a pretty good experience dining on Monday night! My husband booked a reservation for my 21st birthday. We also had our 6 month old with us. We sat at the outside lanai. The street traffic was not too bad and the stroller fit comfortably. We ordered the garlic bread and bruschetta for our appetizers. They were pretty good. For our entrees I had vitello alla baci and my husband had the saltimbocca veal. The real highlight of the evening was the dessert! The blood orange panna cotta was AMAZING and the tiramisu was fantastic as well! The only downside of the evening was that every other table received bread. We were offered bread and we said yes but no one brought it. My husband asked about it as well and someone said they were going to bring it but it never arrived. Maybe because we ordered a lot of bread appetizers lol. We were also not offered wine but we do look young hahahah. I was able to order a Coca Cola about half way through the meal. But looking around at the other tables near us they had their drinks and bread while they ordered their appetizers. We still had a great experience though! To end in a positive note- There was a large party about to go inside with a ton of very young children and the hostess was very kind and offered us a table outside (our baby was sleeping in his car seat) …we were wondering why they offered to move us but realized when they seated the kiddos and we are very grateful for that!
Food was good. I got the tomato basil pasta tubes. They were good. Could have had a little more spice in my opinion but I enjoyed it and enjoyed the leftovers. My husband liked his ravioli too. Wasn't amazing but was good. Made for a good date night
Hubby loved the sausage rigatoni and Caesar salad. I had the green salad which was ok. I also Had the spaghetti lobster special. Waitress described it as "chunks" of lobster. The chunks were snaller than small shrimp and looked machine made. Had tiramisu for dessert. Was ok but had much better. Hubby was happy. I was disappointed.
Maybe it was because we recently returned from a trip to Italy, but we were underwhelmed by the food. It was good enough, except for the tiramisu, which was not good enough. The gelato was excellent. Service was attentive and competent but we felt a bit rushed. It was nice to have several choices of risotto for our gluten free guests. Sit on the patio if you can.
We had the sausage gnocchi and sausage rigatoni, and a bite of the tarimisu. The main course was alright, better than most places on island, but still nothing to write home about. The tarimisu wasn't right: if you said it was cheesecake I might have thought it was good, but wasn't right for tarimisu. I ordered the chianti classico, they had only half a glass left. This was disappointing. The food took a really long time to come. Which we didn't mind. The restaurant was deafening loud so conversation was difficult.
Charming atmosphere in Kailua. Service was a bit slow but the waiter was stretched. Short Rib special was exceptional, pasta dish was delicious and the mussels we had were prepared well.
Baci Bistro wasn’t my first option for dinner on a Sunday night, but I was pleasantly surprised by the food and robust menu. Unfortunately, slow and inconsistent service left the overall dining experience less than ideal. Me and my party made a reservation for the evening and were quickly seated at our reservation time. The server was slow to get to our table and while there was olive oil and balsamic vinegar on the table we did not see bread until over halfway through the meal. I ordered the pear salad for an appetizer and was impressed by the flavor and presentation. The rigatoni with sausage also had excellent taste, but was on the smaller side for a main dish. We finished the meal with tiramisu, and Baci Bistro’s tiramisu is certainly up there with the best I’ve had. Throughout the meal our server was either slow or inattentive, while only working 4 tables in the inside portion of the restaurant. Maybe it was an off-night for them, but I expected more given the reviews. Overall Baci Bistro is a decent place to visit if you’re looking for a large selection of Italian dishes in Kailua. If their service was as good as their tiramisu they’d easily be a 4-5 star restaurant in this reviewer’s humble opinion.
The atmosphere and service is worth going for but my entree fell flat, after having a delicious salad and excellent wine. The pasta De Campo had over cooked veal and sausage. Sun dried tomatoes tasted off and sauce was thin, brown and watery. Disappointed but willing to give it another try, especially after our waiter took my meal off the bill.
Cute spot, good service, ok wine list. Pasta was pretty good and cooked perfectly. Table bread was basic but had a nice crust and softness. Salads had fresh produce but the pear salad had far too much gargonzola. Their red sauce was extremely bland and too sweet. Just lacked any boldness...just plays it too safe.
Great food and good service. The only thing I would have to say is a waitress spilled a bottle of wine on me. They offered the party that had the wine a new bottle on the house but they didnt offer us anything except an apology. I would have liked at least a free dessert.
Service was stellar despite no air conditioning (as others have mentioned). Our pasta dishes were more sweet than we prefer for marinara based dishes.
Lobster ravioli only comes with 4 pieces and was bland. The Shrimp and peas risotto was better than the ravioli but was also not seasoned well enough. Just bland and unseasoned for both dishes. Underwhelming flavors. Small serving sizes. This is our second time at Baci and thought we would give it another try. We live in coconut grove and frequent many restaurants in this area. Will not be back here again.
Went last night for dinner with my husband. We have been here before and really enjoyed it, but this time was very disappointing 😞 Food was good, but the service was not. We were basically ignored, empty wine and water glasses, no follow up about food, and excuses that it was later in the evening. Our reservation was at 7:30. It wasn't busy either, only 2 other tables outside and 1 inside . Owner works hard, only wish our server did.He seemed lazy and uninterested. He's lucky my husband tips well regardless. Not sure we will return. More staff training please.
It was my birthday and my husband surprised me coming here as we have wanted to try for a while as I read the reviews of authentic Italian food. We are frequent travelers of Bologna, Firenze, Roma, Regione di Toscana and Regione di Veneio. Let’s say there will not be a return visit. Food: The bread was stale and just bad. Definitely not fresh. Carpaccio di manzo was average but overpriced for only 4 slices of thin deli meat portions. Gnocchi con salsiccia was average but the best tasting item for the night we had but the tomato sauce had too much sugar added. (Not my meal) Spaghetti tutti mari. (My dish) Horrible and all wrong. No sauce but a watery broth with a hint of tomato, onion and garlic. Overcooked and rubbery seafood. When I got my dish I de-shelled all seafood before trying. I took my first bit which was the pasta and “sauce” and only tasted tomato water. The waitress came over after a few minutes and I asked if I could have more “tomato sauce.” I poured out the watery broth and just thought I just need more sauce. She brings me a tomato sauce that was basically sugar with tomato. Then I started to eat my seafood and it was all rubbery, I couldn’t even chew the squid/mini octopus and spit it out. I keep looking for my waitress and then she never looked over or came back until she saw my husband finished his meal. The food took 15-20 minutes. I wasn’t going to wait for another mediocre meal on my birthday while then my husband watches me eat. I told her of the issue and she asked if I wanted another one. I told her no because my husband was already done eating then she asked if I wanted seafood pasta TO GO. I declined. Service: The waitress didn’t even ask if we wanted desert and she knew it was my birthday. Then gave us the check and my $36 meal was still on the bill after I obviously didn’t eat the meal outside of tasting. She seemed shocked when we said the meal was still left on the receipt. The gentleman who brought out the food was very friendly and hospitable. We had a pleasant short conversation about him working he for several years. Atmosphere: I know we are in Hawaii but this is restaurant gives off, dress up not coming in your beach gear and was very warm to dine in (80 degrees+). Definitely was sweating and regretting dressing up. I don’t know if all the positive reviews are of people who have never had a true authentic Italian meal or we just got very average and bad items. I’m not going to gamble with $35 dishes to find out. And a birthday meal I won’t want to remember.
Place has potential. Food isn't awful, but it isn't great, however, prices are insane for below average food. Tiny portions, crazy high price, plus there was a medium length black hair in my food. Seafood pasta had minimal seafood *two shrimp* and maybe 4 mouthfuls of pasta and this place wants $35 bucks for it. The chicken. Was nothing special, but it was drowning in tomato sauce. I would guess the bread that comes out before the meal comes straight from foodland or something similar. Won't be back unless prices match quality. Dishes are worth $12- $18. Not $30-$40.
We dined via takeout at Baci Bistro in Kailua, and unfortunately our experience was very mixed, leaning disappointing overall. We spent $164 for four meals and three desserts, and only one entrée was truly enjoyable. We were told our food would be ready at 5:45 pm. We arrived slightly late at 6:05, but the food was still not ready and wasn’t completed until 6:20, which made it feel like some items were rushed or not fully prepared. To make matters worse, I had asked for bread, which was either not included at all or consisted of a few tiny slices—especially frustrating given the prices. It felt like an afterthought and honestly a bit of a joke. The seafood ravioli was especially disappointing—five very small raviolis for $33 felt unreasonable for both portion and value. The fettuccine Alfredo with chicken had almost no sauce, as if it had been completely absorbed by the pasta. The chicken was tough, unseasoned, and difficult to eat, making the dish unappetizing overall. The mushroom risotto was a total letdown—bland, undercooked, not creamy, with very few mushrooms. It lacked flavor entirely and was not worth the price. The one bright spot among the entrées was the rigatoni alla rosa, which my daughter-in-law really enjoyed. The sauce was spot on and well executed. Desserts were hit or miss. The cheesecake with berries was delicious, and the chocolate decadence was very good (though quite small). The tiramisu, however, was a soggy, wet mess with an unpleasant flavor. Overall, for the price point, we expected much better execution, portion size, and consistency. Sadly, the experience didn’t live up to the menu or the cost.
disappointing experience, entirely due to our server, Fin. His appearance alone was extremely off-putting and felt unsanitary for a restaurant setting — his shirt was unbuttoned, his tie was hanging loose, and chest hair was exposed. It did not feel professional or appropriate at all. Beyond that, he had little to no knowledge of the food menu or the wine list. Basic questions about dishes and wine pairings couldn’t be answered, which is unacceptable for a restaurant like Baci. Service felt careless and uncomfortable from start to finish. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience genuinely impacted our meal and overall impression of the restaurant. Management seriously needs to address staff professionalism and training. We will not be returning.
Some of the worst Italian food I have ever had. Atmosphere is good but not the food. They were out of every wine we asked about (3) and instead of a suggestion or help said "oh were out of that" "I can check but we usually don't have that either" and disappeared for 5-10 min repeatedly. The gluten-free pasta was mush, the veal tough with no taste. The Raviloi was under cooked and the sauce super salty. If they are out of so many wines on their menu they should have been able to tell us. Not worth a return trip.
Sadly our (expensive) meal was ruined when the family near us let their toddler watch cartoons on an iPhone with the volume up. It was such a detriment to what would have been a lovely evening. My husband and I were celebrating and went all out with menu selections and wine. We couldn’t wait to leave. It would be nice if this restaurant had a policy that if movies and tv are watched at the table that headphones are required. This would allow the rest of the patrons to not be forced to listen to cartoons at an upscale restaurant.
